OKAY REMADE RAINFOREST FLOODS INTRO POST. YOU WANT TO LEARN SO BAD
rainforest floods is an ocverse made by me and @jamescarpenterhooper. its about a waterpark in new mexico and all the horrible people and circumstances it has born witness to. oooo you want to click the read more button so bad PLEASE IM BEGGING
i'll try to keep this as brief as i can so as not to waste your valuable time but just know theres so much i wont be covering here.
rainforest floods is the name of a waterpark that was established in 1971, but dont let that fool you! theres been shit going on for sooo many years beforehand. meet these freaks
^these are the founders of rainforest floods! i dont know how exactly to explain it. patrick and joanna are married. patrick and phillip have had an affair going on for over ten years. which happens to be about as long as patrick and joanna have been married. how strange. anyway
IMPORTANT: for some fucking reason patrick sets a curse on the park that makes it unable to close. KEEP THIS IN MIND FOR LATER BECAUSE IT IMPACTS A LOOOT.
patrick has a favorite little guinea pig among his employees whom he has been trying to teach how to run the park because one day he wont be able to run it anymore. and eventually when 1976 rolls around she gets the chance to do so!
SUUUUUUUUUUE you love her. she takes over the park in 1976 and manages it until 1990. shes a little bit my favorite. she actually does a much better job of managing the park!
but things cant be great forever. in the year 1986 something a little bit crazy happens. one of her employees, bruce krelborn (remember him), is a lifeguard at rff during the summer. just before closing on august 7th, a young woman (remember her too) comes to the park to go on one of the waterslides. but there arent any rafts!!!! oh no!!!! so bruce goes to ask sue about getting more rafts but sues like Um its fine.that doesnt matter.
so then the woman goes down the slide and she gets flung off and dies because she didnt have a raft. and then sues like OKAY.WELL YOU HAVE TO COVER THIS UP NOW. BURY HER RIIIGHT HERE. so he does. and the death is still covered up to this day. surely this will have no long term consequences.
(also semi important to note: sue had a weird favoritism thing with bruce in a similar way that patrick had a weird favoritism thing with her. #cycles)
in 1990 sue decides shes done with this shit and tries to burn the park down and get out of dodge. but unfortunately THE CURSE prevents the park from actually being destroyed. so it looks completely burned from the outside but on the inside its pretty much fine. awesome!
in 2004 two shitheads decide to start the park up again. THEY DONT LOOK LIKE THIS YET I JUST DONT WANT TO PUT IN THEIR 30S IMAGE
"hey bruce krelborn?? that name sounds awfully familiar" YES that is because just a few paragraphs ago he was the lifeguard that had to cover up that poor womans death! he's back now! and also hes like mean and jaded or whatever. the faggot on the right also worked at rainforest floods in the 80s but he wasnt involved in that at all and he is completely oblivious to the fact the coverup is going on despite the fact that one of his employees is the ghost of the woman that died.
also bruce and andy have horrible awful toxic yaoi together and theyre also not dating or anything. what do you get when you combine "insane need for control" (bruce) and "insane need for validation" (andy). and dont say macdennis because thats different. barely.
WAIT WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT THE GHOST??
THIS IS KELSEY shes so awesome oh my god. she cant leave rainforest floods its part of ghost logic. trust me when i say she would leave if she was able to. her and bruce have crazy insane dynamic. when bruce first started reopening rff kelsey didnt recognize him. but he recognized her but didnt tell her he did. so they were actually friends for a little bit before kelsey found out it was the same guy. and now shes mad at him.
THE THING IS kelsey could probably find it in her heart to forgive him. but the thing thats keeping her a ghost is the unfinished business that came from her death being covered up. and shes so scared of actually dying that she cant let go because what if thats the thing keeping her around. LOL.
-> LEARN MORE ABOUT HER HERE. PLEASE READ THSI <-
ok theres like two other employees they dont matter as much
yay jeff and vincent. jeff is normal vincent is Weird. theyre kinda like pim and charlie smiling friends if charlie thought pim was stupid and annoying and pim was a little conspiracy freak. theyre fun i like them. theyre the only ones we're not THAT worried about doing themes and motifs with and even then.
onto side characters now.
^this is kelseys love interest aww. she doesnt have a name dont call her anytihng call her [REDACTED] or unnamed girl. its spoilers. dont worry about it. shes crazyyyy love her. its fun bc she dresses 80s inspired and kelsey died in the 80s so its like wooaahh
and thats [REDACTED]'s brother kyle who is always getting tormented by the staff at rff. he is cursed so that no one outside of his family will ever remember him so its not like they have a vendetta against him theyre all just freaks.
GINGERRRRR she's jeff's girlfriend and shes awesome. her and jeff do bits together theyre funny silly. theyre also kinda high school bullies that never got the chance to bully people in high school so theyre just kind of mean. but at least they dont have septic tank yaoi unlike SOME people
IS THAT IT THAT MIGHT BE IT. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEAPLEASPELAEPLALSPELAS PLEASE GO TO @rainforestfloods ITS OUR COLLABORATIVE TUMBLR BLOG WHERE WE TALK ABOUT THEM AND WE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY JAZZED TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT THEM. PLEASE.
okay bye thats it i hope im not forgetting anything. ooooh you wanna go to waterpark soooo baaaadd

How do find all those gems of fics because you have incredible taste im so serious
Hi! Aw, you are very sweet to say so, thank you! I freely admit that I have very specific tastes, but I know what I'm about and I'm recommending fics that I know I would enjoy, so it's a list perfectly tailored to what I want to see in fandom! As for a semi-serious answer about how to find the fic you want to read, it's sort of a collection of little tricks: 1 - Read a lot of fic. The more you read, the more you'll find that you like, and the more you'll develop a sense for finding what you want to read faster! 2 - Be willing to give up on a fic that's just not for you. The number of times a fic has gotten better after hitting one of my personal warning signs has been so low that now I almost never both to keep reading. If a fic says attachment and love are the same thing, good luck with your fic, author, but I'm out right then and there. If a fic crosses into Bad Dad Bruce territory, you're perfectly valid author, but I'm out right on the spot. If I don't vibe with the formatting or style (I need every new speaker/thinker to be in a new paragraph, I need reasonable sized paragraphs, etc.), I drop the fic and move on to the next. If a summary seems like it has the type of fanon that doesn't hit my id, I keep scrolling. This isn't a value judgement, those fics are fine! They're just not meant for me. But it means I have more time to move on to the next fic, rather than frustrating myself by trying to vibe with something that's just never going to be for me. If I change my mind later, I can always come back, but honestly this has allowed me to find a lot more fic that is for me, if I'm not spending time on something that I don't vibe with. 3 - I will sort by kudos to get started in finding authors to begin reading when I first start, but after that I'm heading to the bookmarks of authors I liked, filtering by "Other work tags to include" to find what I'm really looking for (usually a specific relationship), and start opening up fic. When you find another author you like, repeat the process! 4 - Check out when other people do rec lists, too! Like, I've picked up fic from @cacchieressa and @fantastic-nonsense in DC fandom, as they both do recs fairly often, or I'll do a search for whatever character I'm looking for on tumblr, like "search/dick grayson fic recs", and if something sounds interesting, I'll drop it onto my reader. (I hope I can give back in this way, too, I would love to help others find fic to read and if that inspires making a recs list, that would be great, too!) 5 - I do go through certain tags every night (I go through the Dick & Bruce tag every night, I go through the Anakin Skywalker tag every night, sometimes I'll go through the Jedi Culture Appreciated tag, etc.) and see what catches my attention that's new today, or I'll do a search by kudos and hit up the 300 to 500 number of kudos fics, the ones that are smack in the middle to find more authors that are often really good (which I will then hit up their back catalogue and their bookmarks). Basically, just figure out what really makes your motor run when it comes to fic, whether a favorite character, a favorite relationship, a favorite trope, and you'll naturally just start reading so much that you'll find a ton of fic you like. But also, seriously, hit up authors' bookmarks, if you like their writing, chances are good you'll like their taste in reading, too!

theres much to be said about the woobification of tim drake as a character entirely in fanon, but one thing in particular that tends to irk me is the misinterpretation of this scene.
now, i generally dont have a problem with fanon interprets of events like this!!! in fact, im an avid fanfic reader and i can honestly say i dont mind when comic events get squashed or stretched out of proportion. people want angst and fluff, and hurt and comfort, and i can respect that a lot of dc fans get their info from fanon and dont bother/simply dont want to read comics because they lack those feel-good moments/that emotional depth that fanfics have. thats fine, thats none of my business, and thats perfectly valid!
...but i think it does get to a point where a comic is SO misinterpreted, like this one (or just this series in general, really), that it loses all that makes it good and interesting in the first place.
dick isn't a bad guy here. whether you think what he said was warranted or not, or if you think him saying that he thinks tim should seek help is insensitive or wrong, he's not some evil abusive guy who hates tim (tim literally calls him his brother in the scene???? in a positive context??)
i just see a lot of people think dick is some terrible villain for this event (and for the "firing and replacing tim just so damian can be robin for no reason" thing which is also a misinterpretation of what happened, but thats something else). when in reality dick himself is already struggling to keep his family from falling apart even more than it already has, has been forced to become batman, and has to raise this random, murderous kid that just popped into his life (i love damian but bro was giving dick gray hairs in his twenties in the beginning lol), all while dealing with the loss of his father for the second time in his life. on top of this, to him, his 16 year old brother is off doing god knows what across europe going on a wild goose chase looking for their (presumably) dead father and doesnt know what to do about it.
but despite all that, in tims eyes, dick massively messed up. we know he thinks this by what he says in the comic.
which leads me to my last point; tims own thoughts. this is a bit more of my opinion on tims character rather than objective fact so bear with me. tims internal monologue and emotional journey across red robin are why i think this series is so heavily (sorry to keep using this word) misinterpreted by fanon.
throughout the course of the story, tim is being forced to suffer with a grief that that he doesnt know how to deal with. like dick, this is the second father tim has lost. but the difference between them is that when tim experiences loss he... doesnt really know how to deal with it, like at all. he goes crazy when he loses someone close to him. at least dick can kinda sorta keep it together. after jack died and bruce tried to adopt him, tim literally hired a man to pretend to be his uncle to avoid it. when kon died, he tried to clone him 99 whole times with old luthor tech, (and later when damian died, tim hallucinated hugging him, or at the very least pretended to, which while a lot tamer than these other instances i still think it speaks to how deeply he feels these losses and how badly he handles it). i dont know the specifics of how he acted about other people hes lost like bart, stephanie, and his mom, but tim even says himself that part of the reason why he's doing all this is because of how many people he's lost, so it can be assumed he reacted harshly to their passing, too.
tim also admits, multiple times throughout red robin, that he knows he sounds/acts crazy, he admits that he goes farther than he ever went as robin when dealing with criminals and cases because as red robin he's now "tainted" and agrees with connor in a later issue that "red robin" is his punishment for himself.
so what i mean by all this is that, simply put, tim is an unreliable narrator. of course we as the readers feel angry at dick and cassie, tim himself is angry at them. he feels hurt and betrayed, and it could even be assumed at that point that he feels they abandoned him, and he thinks that they think hes crazy. he isolates himself from everyone, he feels unworthy of everything, and he "knows" hes lost it. "except for everything, im perfectly fine." is a quote he says, and there are plenty more like it in the series.
my point is that in tims eyes for the majority of his character arc as red robin, nearly everyone hes ever loved has either died or abandoned him, but as the audience we know thats not the case. cassie loves him, dick of course loves him, they just both made mistakes and hurt him, but that doesnt make either of them irredeemable or mean that they dont care about tim. tim himself, in that moment, just doesnt believe that, or doesnt even seem to consider that. he sees the bad, and blinded by his own grief and anger, doesnt see the good.
i just think a lot of people miss that, and just write dick off as borderline abusive or purposefully hurtful in red robin fanfics, because comics tend to get telephoned so much in the fandom that thats what people see him as, when it's not the case, which is how we got the "dick threatens to send tim to arkham" thing. (but thats just gonna happen i guess. did you know that in the actual jasons attack on titans tower comic jason wears his robin costume?? yeesh i'll have to stick with fanon on their interpretation of that whole thing. see its not bad all the time)
besides the idea of the whole arkham trope thing, theres still plenty of canon angst to pull from in red robin! you can write about how tim thinks hes losing it, ra's weird infatuation with tim and everything that comes with that, tim being forced to deal with losing robin, tims rocky relationship with tam fox, tims super rocky relationship with damian, any interaction between kon and tim, OH. the fact that at one point tim got kicked out of a tall building and accepted his death (only thinking about how bruce would be proud), only to be saved by dick last minute and then lying about knowing dick would save him (yeah right buddy) ((its issue #12)). theres also the idea of bruce and tim talking after tim finds him (canon bruce hug!!!). and theres more im forgetting for sure. all that to say theres plenty of ideas already there for the taking!!!!! red robin is a great comic filled with plenty of emotional moments.
moral of the story, dick isn't a terrible person, tim needs help but he isn't a little baby incapable of doing anything, and i believe writing them differently in the context of red robin (2009) is a disservice to their characters and their relationships with each other in the actual comic.
...but i mean, im not your dad. write what you want
#dc comics#tim drake#dick grayson#red robin#batman#nightwing#bruce wayne#rant#omg please dont kill me for this#also i did not mean to practically write an essay oops#this isnt directed at any fan work in particular btw#its just something ive noticed

i genuinely, wholeheartedly do not know what mental gymnastics some people did to reach a conclusion that "good dad bruce" people are white man bootlickers OR that batcest is fine actually because we are apparently obsessing over an american idealized nuclear family concept and erasing birth parents ???? which is. where did you even get that from??? "my source is that i made it the fuck up" type of shit. NO ONE is erasing birth parents or idolizing white people
all while reducing bruce's relationship to his kids to just a legal document. THAT is disrespectful towards adoptees. adopted families are valid and can be just as strong, affectionate and close as a biological one. just because they aren't blood related doesn't mean they aren't family.
i myself come from a culture that heavily values biological family and considers it scared and very very special HOWEVER my culture also taught me that this kind of family can be found anywhere and its not limited to blood relations.
american nuclear family? who told you we were centering white americans, actually? because with my head cannons this is definitely not true, lol
what the fuck is wrong with people's brains. im genuinely asking. im so sorry but what kind of thought process did you go through? i genuinely want to understand. please tell me im dying to know
some folks will do any kind of mental gymnastics to justify gross behavior and that is honestly just sad
anywho, peace and love to the non-weirdos ! have a nice day and stay away from creeps
#dc#dc batman#batfam#batman#batfamily#anti batcest#suddenly being an anti is white man bootlicking and disrespectful to adoptees#LMAO?#my brother in christ i have georgian sworn siblinghood in mind what american white person stuff are you on about?#connected by a blood oath and years of being there for eachother#blood oath is an old tradition for sworn siblings#another old georgian tradition is გაძიძება#mostly it was wealthy families temporarily giving their kids to impoverished families#cuz they wanted the kids to grow up humble#this way the kid had TWO families at once which is awesome

so i've seen a lot of "bruce is a good dad", "no bruce is a bad dad!", "no THIS version is good for THESE reasons", "but THIS version is BAD for these other reasons" kind of stuff and ,honestly, what im getting from all this is that we've all collectively identified A Problem but haven't quite figured out the root cause yet.
well, i think i've gotten a little closer. to be fair tho i wouldn't have if there weren't so many amazing people spouting excellent meta theories and writing advice and whatnot here on the tumbles.
so here is my opinion on this that literally no one asked for but you're gonna get anyway:
the root problem is a narrative perspective incongruence
let me explain: so superheros are, at their core, a power fantasy (at least the dudes are, anyway) and what fantasy they are about differs between characters. in batman's case the fantasy is...complex, but basically boils down to staring at the uncaring void of the universe and making it blink first. its a fantasy of getting to grow up to become the thing that would have saved you. of being such a badass that you can drag the world even that tiny bit closer to being fair, even if you have to use force to get it there. its about making it so no one else has to go through what you had to. its about being someone who CARES in a way it felt like not enough people did when you needed it most.
and thats a powerful fantasy. very appealing to a LOT of people for a LOT of reasons. but its ultimately a fantasy told from an adult perspective. we don't see little 8-12 year old bruce dress up and go out fucking shit up in the night. we see, at the youngest, 19-20 year old bruce dressing up as a bat and starting his whole thing. and usually its more like 22-24 when he gets started. and that means he has an adult's idea of what is right and wrong, what is good and bad, what is fair an what is not baked into it. which is absolutely fine, its just also deeply incompatible with a child's perspective of the same things. because to an adult, a good adult, children are a thing to be protected, not endangered. and to a child an adult is a threat at worst and an obstacle at best.
which means the problem... is ROBIN
because robin is ALSO a power fantasy, but one for children. robin is about a little 8-12 year old kid dressing up to menace the kind of people who hurt them or those they care about. its a fantasy about getting justice NOW, of getting an adult that treats you like an equal ["partner, not sidekick" anyone?], an adult that understands and validates your feelings and wants and trauma and HELPS you in the exact ways you want them to help you at the time, even if its something other adults would be mad about.
which is also a powerful fantasy, but because its being told from the perspective of a child it has a VERY different set of requirements for the setting than something told from an adult perspective.
see, for a child (or children, or teens, or any other not-adult) to be able to be the hero or protagonist of a story it NECESSITATES that the adults in that setting are all some form of terrible. usually in one of the three following ways: dangerous, absent, or useless.
dangerous adults are ones who want to kill, maim, or otherwise assault the kid protags. they're usually the more dangerous bad guys of a story or even the 'final boss'
absent adults are usually the mechanism that allows for all this adventure and why a kid is the one all this responsibility falls on. this can mean anything from "all the adults magically disappeared one day and now its just us kids in the world", to "all the adults are off at war", to "none of the adults care to check in on us so we're left on our own to do what we want", to "all the (relevant) adults are dead" [insert "you're not my real dad" jokes here]
useless adults are, i think, what trips so many people up. because these are the adults that try to help, that try to take responsibility, that try to do the right thing. but because this is a story about kids they can't actually SUCCEED without making it all about the adults instead. and this is, unfortunately, where the vast majority of "good" adults in a child-perspective story have to be. and that't not even getting into how a 'good' adult from a kid's perspective is a very different thing from a 'good' adult from an adult's perspective.
because, no, a kid is not 'an equal' to an adult in all things. an equal person? yes. an equal in basic human rights? yeah they should be. an equal in power? in responsibility? no, by the very nature of kids being kids they are NOT ready for that. an infant is literally unable to care for themselves and will die without that care, a toddler is not ready to work or pay taxes, an older child/younger teen is not ready to be wholly responsible for themselves much less parent someone else. and that means there is gonna be a power imbalance. a 'good' adult is one who is capable of balancing the independence of a whole-ass separate person with the power-over and responsibility-for someone who isn't able to be as independent as they want yet.
a 'bad' adult is one who doesn't do that. either because they can't or because they intentionally won't. a 'bad' adult puts a kid in danger, is sexually inappropriate with them, or slacks off on their responsibility towards a child under their power. a 'bad' adult will give a child what they want even if it is dangerous or otherwise a bad idea in a way that child isn't prepared to understand yet. either because of negligence or manipulation.
so if we bring all this back to batman what we get is a story that is trying to be told from an adult's perspective AND a child's perspective at the same time. one where batman HAS to be good to be batman but he can't actually be good the way an adult would view it.
which is how you get robins having to be the co-dependant emotional support for a grown-ass adult. of having to parent the parent. of having to parent the other kids while they still are one. of being 'allowed' to fight murderers and rapists and pedophiles and traffickers while being a prime target for ALL of that because even the 'good' adults don't seem to know what appropriate boundaries and limits for kids are. and all that is in the "better" versions of batman. don't even get me started on the horrors lurking in the bad ones.
so as long as robin is under 16-18, batman is REQUIRED by the narrative perspective to be some kind of terrible adult, because an actual good one WOULDN'T LET SOMEONE YOUNGER THAN THAT DO SO MUCH DANGEROUS SHIT. hell even that age range is pushing it a bit.
and before someone jumps in with the inevitable "lol, what makes you think bruce could stop [insert robin here]": alfred somehow kept tiny bruce from running off to fuck shit up. you think he can't still do that with the younger kids? that him AND bruce at the height of his power couldn't do that combined? that a bruce who has made friends with fucking SUPERMAN and WONDER WOMAN couldn't get a literal demigoddess and overpowered godlike alien to help him wrangle his kids? that a good-parent bruce wouldn't sacrifice his pride/territoriality over gotham if it meant saving/protecting his kids? that the most paranoid man in the world with terrifying stalker/invasion of privacy tendencies wouldn't be capable of having multiple trackers on each of his kids (including ones they don't know about) that set off a bazillion alarms and failsafe protocols the MOMENT they went off schedule or pattern?
i will absolutely grant you that the grown-up versions of the robins are all terrifyingly hyper-competent even in comparison to bruce (or at least they SHOULD be) but thats their GROWN UP versions. while they're still kids, still ROBIN, they are VULNERABLE and, like any other kid, deserve to be protected and as safe as reasonably possible.
going out at night to kick people in the head in spandex and booty shorts ain't it
so your options are:
bruce is a good dad and all robins are at least 16 before they start actually going out to fuck shit up. and aren't running off on their own to 'fight crime' until at least 18. they might or might not be involved in the background stuff like research or 'guy in the chair' duties but they ain't physically in danger until around mid-late teens. OR,
bruce is a typical useless adult of child-narrative stories that has no idea how to care for a child and lets them do shit that is inappropriate as hell but the kids think that makes him a 'cool' adult at the time so the narrative labels him a 'good' dad and not the textbook definition of 'reckless endangerment of a minor'. [and leads to the grown up kids having Complaints about their upbringing that never get addressed]
and i think it's pretty obvious which one the multiple iterations of canon consistently go for
so yeah: doylist take is batman is a bad dad (who is usually at least trying) but he's literally written that way by poorly thought out narrative choices trying to have it both ways that have been going on so long its beyond baked into the narrative and has progressed to burnt-in.
and that sucks because by all rights he SHOULD be a good dad if you keep to his "platonic ideal of batman" characterization. like this man should have spent like a year doing almost nothing but teaching himself how to parent when he got the first one. this is the dude that goes out and finds experts until he himself is an expert. why on earth would he do that for his 'mission' and not his kids when the WHOLE POINT OF BATMAN IS TO HELP TRAUMATIZED KIDS LIKE THEM.

First off the Wayne family content you've been posting recently is so fun, absolutely love it. Secondly, help what do I do when one of my posts becomes more popular than other stuff I post (less than 70 notes but I'm used to not being interacted with on tumblr at all) like how do I handle being perceived as a fan content creator (sorta????)
Hello!! First of all that's so kind aaaaa, second of all!! I'd say try not to compare your popular posts to your less viewed content. Depending on the fandom you're in, engagement can fluctuate.
I used to be into riverdale for a time and had like, 500 followers. Now that I'm switched to DC, I have like, 4K. It's a pretty surreal experience, because I haven't had engagement like this in any fandom before.
But my posts are like that, too! Generally, my "big" posts are dedicated to headcanons with established popularity already (ex, Jason and Bruce's relationship, Bruce being a batdad in general, batfamily stuff)
but my Thomas and Martha, Bruharvey, and singular Bruce posts don't get traction that much, which is fine, since they're not all that big in the fandom anyway.
Most importantly, I'd say do it for yourself and do it for fun!! While validation is certainly nice, I don't necessarily think it should be the only nourishment source for your self esteem, nor should it be treated like something serious.
While a lack of engagement can be disheartening sometimes, you WILL make friends!! Blogging is fun when it's treated like a potluck or a boo club; everyone brings something and we all enjoy it together because overall, it's a hobby and a source of joy, not a job.
I will be honest with you, -- when I AM losing followers, there's definitely some anxiety that comes from it. I try not to take it personally. Some people follow blogs for a specific genre of content, and if they don't see it anymore or simply aren't interested, it's more than okay to leave!
At times it has more to do with " did I do something wrong?" But most often than not, it's really due to incompatibility. They're there to have fun and so are we.
I feel like content, especially on a site as socially destitute as Tumblr, is wholesome and precious because really, no one really gains anything from it; It's just a beautiful thing people share because they want to. It makes them happy and they want us to be happy, too. Weather consciously or not.
Your ask just now!! Im someone who thrives over fandom interaction and I've got to know many amazing, creative people due to it. I'm MORE than sure you'll make friends, too :>>> but really, just have fun with your blog, bestie

previous anon—it being a batman and robin book makes me even more nervous, because he could push some "damian is chained down at home, he needs to explore more and leave the nest" bullshit by making bruce and damian butt heads over dumb things. but you're right, maybe all my worries are for nothing and it'll all be fine. optimism is key
ur worry is valid, but i do believe if they give the writer a series based on the dynamic between batman and robin he wont try to separate them or the series will end
im still incredibly worried but ill do my best to bring all the optimism i can to the table, cause honestly i think its a good thing
#holding out hope!#im actually excited about like at least two (4) series rn!#who would have thought!#ur so valid though anon its so valid to be worried

combining the superman vacation idea with the superbat divorce. so its been years since they split up, and the world is just Hating Superman like lex luthor is totally winning the publicity war no matter how many cats he saves, and clark finds out that bruce doesnt actually regret any of his shittier actions during their relationship. like he hates himself for ruining everything and deeply regrets pushing clark away, but he's also validated all his choices as "logical, even if they went south" even though it was largely just hating aliens for being aliens. so superman is pretty pissed, and kind of bitterly happy that bruce is raking himself over the coals even if he hasnt actually grown. and the growing unrest in metropolis has the authorities saying "we are going to go to luthor for access to kryptonite and if an officer sees you at a scene we are going to straight up attack you, we Do Not want you here, superman is Banned", so superman decides you know what. all this needs to cool off and i dont want to look at bruce's face for a while, fuck this, im going to rann, they have a yellow sun so i'll be fine. good luck to everyone but i cant help like this and if you genuinely want me gone then like, i will respect your wishes and then come back later and see what the temperature is like.
everyone has to scramble to fill the superman-shaped hole in protecting metropolis, crime is skyrocketing, luthor is taking over unchecked, and other supers cant take too much time away from their own cities to reign it back in. bruce is going over clark's disdainful stare in his mind over and over and over its just making him spiral like crazy, which makes him retreat further into the cowl to hide from his own pain. he's still barely gotten better because justifying his own actions was how he kept himself from just losing it everytime he saw clark and now his defense mechanism has been totally obliterated by the man himself's withering glare and "im disappointed in you" frown.
superman is getting bodyshots off a blue alien in a space club that has alcohol that actually effects him somehow, which is very exciting to him. most of it is like earth alcohol and does nothing, but exactly One Brand is made for a specific alien species and has what is basically to everyone else Super Poison in it, and metabolizing it has intoxicating effects on his kryptonian biology. cant kill him, but can give him a hangover, which is novel. everyone wants to dance with him and no one is shouting for him to come rescue them, which is a huge weight off his shoulders. he has an alien threesome just to see what its like. it's one of the best months of his life.
#he comes back refreshed saves metropolis without any bags under his eyes or agonizing lack of sleep apologizes for the delay and says#that he hopes to renew people's faith in him after his much needed time away#and he's back to being cordial with bruce but their previous friendship has taken major steps backwards its all professional respect#amd everyone's like ok well we are angy dont leave again even if we threaten to shoot you.#and superman's like haha no :) im making it part of my schedule.#im taking time off once every few years from now on that vacay was rly good for me.#next time i'll take a transponder so if its genuinely The World Will Blow Up i'll fly back and help but like i do deserve a break too.#my therapist said so#and so did my momma who i trust above all. ma said it was my turn for a vacation. and you cant fight ma superman!

‘don’t say that about yourself.’ :(
@battlefall.
what had been an attempt to comfort thor’s woes has now seemingly turned back around on him. it’s not your fault, thor. you couldn’t have done anything. if there’s anyone who let people down it’s me, i spent two years killing people, and that’s just the recent list. i’m the monster, here.
way to self-depreciate like a real master, banner. he resists the tempting urge to just punch himself in the face and let the big guy bear the embarrassment. but he can’t. he can’t. because he doesn’t want to hurt thor, and, thanks to thor’s support, doesn’t really want to hurt himself like that either. ‘i–uh,’ his hands and voice both fumble for purchase in what feels like a hole, digging himself deeper and deeper. bruce isn’t often told off nor comforted for his passing self-hate. the usual reactions vary from pity to agreement, or even anger. but the god of thunder doesn’t really look angry, or pitiful. he just looks calm. he just looks like.... his friend.
bruce shakes his head. 'thanks, thor. sorry. i didn’t mean to turn that on me. it’s just that i shouldn’t have let that h-’ thor gives him a look. he tries again. 'it was my f…’ the look hasn’t gone away. he swallows and surrenders. 'it…wasn’t my fault.’

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
“go to the doctor.”
he could feel the annoyance radiating off you like no tomorrow. but he’s just as stubborn and just as annoyed as you are.
“i said i’m fine.” his grumbles back aggravated and with a large eye roll, making sure to avoid your eye line.
a large sigh, like a deep grumble sigh spills from your lips, “then you’ll be fine if i go out tonight?”
now he steps in front of you as your body starts to carry to the entryway of wayne manor, his body wrapped in a blanket and nose red as can be as he sniffles starting at you like a wounded puppy.
“i don’t see why you have to go out.” he counters, unaware of the fact his adoptive father was watching this would encounter unfold in his manors entertainment point.
“i have to go out,” you push your hand on his chest so you can push just far enough back to get a head start out the door, “because you need stuff for soup and i need clothes if im going to stay here.”
valid reasons, both things acknowledge by jason, but both things easily fixed without you having to leave the very sick jason todd that wanted nothing more to be wrapped up in blankets with you on the couch.
“alfred or bruce can run out and get stuff for soup.” he states, tugging your arm as you reach for the doorknob, much like a toddler. “and you get wear some of my clothes.”
he smiled as he finished his proposal, proud of his ideas. bruce was smiling too, proud of his proposal as well but more so at his vulnerability to want you here, bruce liked the jason he became when you were around.
“neither of those are options i gave you.” you huffed, trying to wriggle from his grasp.
“i know and i didn’t like yours, so i made new ones.” he’s grinning again as he speaks, really loving this moment with you right now.
now alfred has approached behind bruce, smiling over his shoulder just as bruce was, both peering around the corner which caught your attention.
the sight of them smiling at the two of you made your heart melt.
your eyes lingered longer on bruce, studying his features, a talent you had acquired too quickly after just a few weeks of dating jason.
you wanted him to be okay with it. you knew your mom would care less, you only cared about what bruce thought.
you wanted his approval to be in jason’s life as much as jason did in his daily life.
bruce just smiled at you, nodding lightly before tugging alfred along to the kitchen which of course he was soon to be thrown out of.
“if i stay you promise to take your medicine.” you stated, not even a question, you already knew jason won.
and jay knew this too, pressing kiss after kiss across your face, hugging his body tight into yours like he was scared of you fading away from him.
“only if you read pride and prejudice to me.”
he had the single request and you kept to it, which didn’t last long as he was sound asleep just a few pages into the chapter with him resting his head against your stomach and arms wrapped right around your torso.
of course you would have cherished it more if you knew that in just a few weeks you would never get to have a night like this again.

Saw the reblogging of the fanon thing and literally brought to frustrated TEARS because an old mutual of mine suddenly got into Batman after watching Robert Pattinson’s movie and on one hand it’s like!! Yay new fans!! Except she’s only been exposed to fanon and refuses to accept that Jason isn’t just the dumb brute/bad boy, that Tim isn’t Tim if he’s not infantilized, and that Cass cannot talk, or when she does its very- well. It’s the fanon way of having her talk- and duke. She said that duke isn’t really family because his parents are alive- and that Tim had the most traumatizing upbringing along with Bruce when like?? Im sitting over here like I don’t wanna say it’s cause both these characters are white and rich, but let’s be real. Like?? Firstly, trauma shouldn’t be compared, everyone is valid. But objectively, Tim had a fine childhood and didn’t even want to be adopted by Bruce. I bring up that Tim’s dad was also alive and she’s like. Yeah but they were abusive as hell, physically and emotionally, and always left him alone and locked him in the house and he had to fend for himself- and I’m here like ohhh okay. It’s those fics.
It’s just. It’s so frustrating. I’m sorry for coming in and ranting u obviously don’t have to respond I’m just. Frustrated
damn!!!!! would u like to have a photo of my kitty flying midair in these trying times

My favorite thing (cough bullshit cough cough) is when fics allude to all this stuff Jason holds against Dick but never go into any specifics. While at the same time having no trouble being detailed about other stuff in the fam's history or Bruce in UTRH, but the sec its Jason bitching at Dick it gets real vague. Jason's like oh you know what I'm talking about or don't think I've forgotten, you dick....but we're supposed to just imagine for ourselves what that is. Incheresting.
Me at all the fic writers who are like “Oh so you think Dick was never a fuckhead to Jason huh, well in this essay I will....”
Like here’s the thing, as I’m always saying:
Fanfic? Inherently transformative. You can do whatever you want with it.
So that means that yes, absolutely, if you want? For whatever reason? You CAN write Jason and Dick having this extensive history of Dick being a jerk to Jason and Jason resenting him because of it.
But.
But but but but but.
You have to like, actually WRITE that.
And that’s the part that people just.....don’t do. Instead they rely on just handwaving into existence a backstory that only exists on their say-so, and expect readers to just accept Dick’s characterization here as fact, even though its literally not based on canon OR based on anything they’ve actually provided in story......
Because even in a transformative medium, you have to actually TRANSFORM something to get from Point A to Point B!
You want Dick’s character to be this callous jerk full of regrets because he came to his epiphany of How Not To Be A Jerk too late in life and his siblings are all like well we don’t really have time for you now, you missed your shot bro?
Cool cool.
But you have to TRANSFORM Dick’s character from what he’s ACTUALLY like in canon TO that figure there, and there’s no actual transformation in any of these stories. They just start with it taken as a given that this is the way Dick already is, and expect everyone to just catch up and get on board, despite the fact that if we were to anthropomorphize their fic and ask “hey Siri-fic, show us how you got Dick from Point A to Point B,” the fic would say no because there’s no work to show. It doesn’t exist.
Instead, what we actually get is a characterization of Dick that to most of his fans honestly doesn’t make any sense, and we’re like, wait, why is Dick like this here, and in response we get fics being like *points to this part of canon, says everything you need to know is right in there* and we’re like no we’ve been to that part of canon, what you’re describing is literally just NOT THERE. So again, still, once more with feeling: wait, why is Dick like this here?
And not to be contentious on main, oh wait lol I don’t care, but like......tbh this is a very cheap and lazy form of storytelling. And I don’t actually feel bad for saying that, sorry not sorry, because I feel like writers in this fandom have long been perfectly happy to run with this sorta thing and then hide behind “cant criticize my story, Im doing this for free” to keep people from commenting on how this is an ummm not great approach to taking characters from canon and transforming them into something else.
Even though its like.....I don’t really care about your singular story enough TO criticize it, I’m perfectly content to x out of it and move on to the next one, but when so damn many of these stories are relying on the same shortcut without a single one of them actually doing any of the transformative work to justify their take, and over and over we’re just expected to go along with this, its like.....umm yeah, I do actually feel that at a certain point its abundantly relevant to point out that this IS a ginormous fucking trend and the trend itself is absolutely deserving of criticism.
And quite frankly, when fics or headcanons RELY on the expectation that people just nod and smile and shh don’t question it every time they come across a depiction of Dick Grayson as just this total thorn in his family’s side......like, “no” is actually a perfectly valid response to that expectation, lmao. Nobody is owed fans of this character just sucking it up and being like nah, this is fine, as everyone continues to run with this ball all while justifying it with handwaving and vague pointing at an ever moving target whenever somebody’s just like....”I’m not even trying to criticize your fic, I’m just wondering what your take on Dick is based on, because I think we’re looking at two entirely different characters here.”
Because like....we are! Lmao. Yeah, different interpretations are a thing, but when the Dick Grayson in question is foundationally based on formative events that literally don’t exist anywhere BUT in the fic writer’s mind because the writer never actually wrote them into the fic and they don’t actually exist anywhere else.....we are effectively at that point talking about two entirely different characters. And its extremely irritating for those of us who want to talk about the one that’s based on actual canon events to be constantly told we’re doing it wrong and just being referred back to the general collective view of how ‘Dick is bad actually, cuz we say so,’ when pressed for specifics. Like, I’ve literally had people post or comment about ficlets I’ve written that show Dick and Jason getting along pre-ADITF, where people are like “aww this is so much better than canon, would’ve been nice if we could’ve had this instead of Dick being such a jerk to Jason.”
I mean....fahlkfhaklfhaklfhklafhklahfalhaf! Y’know?
But I mean. I digress. Probably. I don’t know. What was the question?

Yooo i dont want to start shit dont worry but i do have a question.
Why do you think Alf is a good parent?
I assume you have seen my points, if not its under the tag "Alf slander". In my opinion Alfred is a very flawed parent to Bruce and a very flawed person.
I know you think different and i'd like to know why you have that opinion.
You dont have to ofc, we dont have to be enemies just bc we have a different opinion on Alf.
Its fine to like Alf he's a fine parent a lot of the times but i'd like to know why you think he's such an amazing parent and why im wrong.
howdy!! i want to start off by saying that i didn't know you had these opinions on alfred and i hope you didn't think that post i made was directed at you, it was moreso at some general discourse i saw around and honestly i wasn't keeping track of who it was from and yeah. i'm sorry if you thought the post was a slight at you because it wasn't.
to answer your question, the main reason i think alfred is a good parent is because i don't pay attention. ❤ i don't read very many comics that just have bruce and alfred in them (or any at all lmao) because i'm here for the batkids mainly and idk i just don't find bruce-centric stories that interesting overall. all of the comics i've ever read have portrayed alfred as a gentle and caring individual to both bruce and the batkids, so that's just how alfred is in my mind. is it accurate? probably not, but i don't care enough to check. if the alfred i know is a good father and grandfather, why would i want to change that? just so i can feel morally validated that i'm enjoying the "correct" characters? nah.
i'm not saying that any abuse bruce went through was justified or anything, but you're talking to a gal who writes good-parent!bruce fics because i'm sick of seeing him written as a bad father in canon. it not accurate to write a bruce wayne who hugs his kids and is emotionally available to them (sometimes), but i do it anyway because i like it. if i spent all my time writing characters the exact way they are in the comics, it wouldn't be much fun anymore.
i don't think you're wrong at all, and honestly you're undoubtedly WAY more knowledgeable on this subject than i am. i'm just vibing my way through life here, liking the characters i want to like and ignoring the canon i want to ignore. i have no idea which of my opinions are correct and i don't really care either way because they're still just opinions. if i went through every comic ever written to make sure i was factually accurate in my opinions, there wouldn't be time for much else.
i run a dumb tumblr blog so i have a space to enjoy comic books and talk about whatever random stuff i feel like talking about. if you don't like alfred, that's your business and i love your dedication to the truth! sadly, i simply don't care enough to sift through dc canon to find the bits that back it up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#this is way longer than i meant it to be i'm sorry#anyway i hope you're having a good day!!#sorry if this response seems like a cop-out but oh well it's the truth#i just don't care enough to find out whether alfred is a bad person or not#i like him better the way he exists to me now#i hope you find someone to debate with who cares more than i do lmao#i feel bad because you crafted such a thought-out argument and then here am i like ''lmao i don't pay attention''#lay it on me papa bob

Headcanons for being Dr. Strange’s Apprentice
Stephen Strange x apprentice!reader
warnings:
a/n: for some reason i never retain any information from dr. strange stuff? so if this sucks its because i cant process it. i dont like how this one turned out i literally have no ideas
prompt: anonymous: “Hcs for being Dr. Strange’s apprentice?”
you were led to become strange’s apprentice after a tragedy and a brush with death
you woke in the hospital with bad news, there were no other survivors in the accident you had just experienced
while you were recovering, a doctor came in to visit you
“hi, y/n. im doctor christine palmer, and im so sorry for your loss. but i think i know a guy that could help you through this”
she gave you an address that you sort of recognized
“177A bleecker street? isnt that the funky looking house in greenwich?”
“something like that, just trust me on this one”
“thank you, doctor”
at first, you were a bit skeptical, but you tried your odds and hobbled to the place on your crutches
when you knocked, a man in blue robes and a red cape answered
“can i help you, y/n?”
“oh, hi? sorry, a doctor at metro-general sent me here”
“doctor palmer, im aware”
“ah, she called ahead?”
“no. come in”
you were very weirded out
“so, what is this place? and who are you?”
“you ask too many questions”
“oh, okay”
from the moment this wizard met you, he saw himself in you
lost, hopeless, upset with the way the world had treated you
“to answer your earlier question, i am doctor strange, the sorcerer supreme”
“oh...i dont know what that means”
he found you somewhat funny
“in time, you will”
he looked back on the teachings of his former master to show you what it meant to start your training
you honestly didn’t know what to think of the kaleidoscope of the world projected in front of you
“are you ready to commit to your training?”
“sure...i mean, i dont have anything else to do”
a valid reason, truly
“your leg will heal naturally, your mind, on the other hand...”
“i know, i gotta do some spiritual shit to help myself”
“thats one what to put it”
it took some time for you to understand what it was that dr. strange was teaching
but once you grasped the puzzling concepts, you excelled
there was a fine contrast between you and your master
he was much more sophisticated than you, but he had a sense of humor
you were on the bubbly side, always goofing around with your magic
“y/n, how many times must i remind you that opening portals into the freezer for the ice cream is misuse of your magic”
“oh, come on! i just cant resist the hunka-hulka burnin’ fudge!”
“just...just walk to the kitche—did you seriously just grab it while i was telling you not to?”
*through a mouthful* “sohwry”
wong watches the two of your sorcerers converse often, it’s one of the only things that really makes him laugh
calling the cloak of levitation “cloakie”
it drives strange crazy dbshahhsh
but cloakie answers to it just fine
during battles, it sometimes flies away from your master to give you a quick assist
“thanks cloakie!”
being assigned “homework”
so much reading it could’ve driven you mad
strange explaining the eye of agamotto and the time stone to you
“now listen, this comes before everything else, you must learn to protect yourself because i’ll let you die before i lose this”
“what a comforting thought”
stephen was pretty up front with you
he didn’t like the way that the ancient one kept so many secrets, so he informed you and as much as you should know
“those yellow gloves look like you’re getting ready to wash the dishes” (no hate i actually liked them lmao)
meeting thor and loki!
“i think i’ll just send loki through the looping portal while i take care of business with his brother, would you mind keeping him some company?”
“i’d love to!”
and then you gracefully fell with him, he didn’t enjoy your presence very much
stephen would tell you about his life before he became a sorcerer
all was well for a while after that but then lmaooo a famous scientist just happened to crash through the roof
“woah, you’re bruce banner! love your ice cream”
“not now, y/n”
“my bad”
meeting tony stark and just kind of...not vibing with him
but something about him seemed familiar
“no shit, sherlock” (seriously im mad i this wasn’t in a3 or a4)
epic battle on the streets of new york that led to your master being captured by aliens
you and wong went back to protect the sanctum, but you pitched in to help fight the real battle
much to the dismay of wong
and then wong dusted, so you were left to protect the sanctum
you missed your master very much
in the next five years, you did all you could to learn about your magic
and your skills proved spectacular
you suspected that you might need to take dr. strange’s place for good
until wong reappeared right in front of you
“hello again, y/n. did you miss me?”
“miss you? wong, i’ve been dying over here!”
“that seems like an exaggeration”
helping to open portals around the world (and galaxy) to get everyone to the big battle
and finding your master, all had become right once again
“doctor strange!”
“y/n! i have to say, im impressed at how you handled yourself after thanos”
“you mean youre happy i didn’t destroy the sanctum or become interested in. the dark dimension?”
“more or less”
a teamup to remember between master and apprentice
returning to the sanctum with strange
“did you move the relics around??”
“...i wanted to remodel”
i cant think of anything else???? im sorry shhshshshsh

Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future. (sorry for sending so many i really wanna know)
(no don’t worry it’s perfectly okay! i had fun answering all of them 😊)
1. what was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?
ah. okay, so the first fandom i wrote and published for was Voltron, though i will never give away what the pairing was. i was 14 and it was on Wattpad, the rest is forbidden knowledge
2.do you participate in any writing events or challenges throughout the year? if so, what do you like about them?
i recently participated in a few events and challenges, and honestly, they were a lot of fun! i’d have to say that what i like about them is that i get to get out of my comfort zone and push my limits.
3. do you write fics from start or finish, or jump around?
well. uh, no.
sometimes i do write whole fics in one sitting, but usually it takes me a day or two, and i have more than one WIP doc open because my brain needs to switch fics when it gets bored, so to speak. i just need to jump around to avoid losing interest in a story
4. do you outline before you start writing? if so, how far do you stray from that outline?
if it’s a multi-chapter fic, then yes. if i don’t have a clear ending or goal, then the story can and will drag on and on and on lol. sometimes i’ll stray from my outline, since it’s not really a strict set of directions for me to follow, more of something to guide me. very often, my story won’t exactly resemble my outline.
5. what is the perfect environment for you to write in?
late at night with a steaming cup of tea or coffee, or just an energy drink, wrapped in my fuzzy blanket with instrumental music playing.
7. Which part of writing do you struggle with most?
writing
/hj. idk i guess i’d have to say finding the right word when i forget it. or another super annoying thing is that sometimes i have the perfect word in french, and i need to find a good translation for it, but the english version of the word just doesn’t feel the same as the original. that’s very annoying lol.
10. do you enjoy dialogue, exposition, or plot the most?
dialogue. i tend to stray from the plot and i always struggle with exposition, but i absolutely love writing dialogue.
11. if you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be?
angst. no questions. i need to hurt my characters because i love them.
12. is there a trope you haven’t written yet but really want to?
enemies to lovers. i don’t have any actual WIPs with that specific trope, but i do really want to write it one day lol.
13. is there a trope you wouldn’t write if it was the last trope on earth?
alpha/beta/omega. i fully support my writer friends who write it, but sadly i will never write it. it bothers me a little too much rip. i’d rather never write again than write it.
16. what is your most underrated fic?
um. personally, i think that this fic from my urban fantasy AU was really not popular lol. i kinda see why, since its pure fluff and from an AU that is a personal indulgence lol
17. what fic are you most proud of?
okay this Jayroy fic from my bad things happen bingo is definitely one of the ones i’m very proud of. idk, i just like it? i can’t explain why i’m proud of it, but i am.
18. what is a line/scene you’re really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.
i decided to cheat a little and i’ll be using a line from a WIP instead. and the commentary’s gonna be written bc i can
It was a mission report. Bruce had told him it was fine if he finished it tomorrow.
Tim could finish it tonight. (tim you absolute walnut SLEEP)
He was perfectly capable of doing what Bruce asked him. (not when you’re sleep deprived, idiot) He wasn’t Dick. he certainly wasn’t Jason. But he could still work diligently and without mistake. He could be better. (aw bby you dumb idiot child you dont need to be better)
Tim stared at the person standing in the hallway, eyes narrowed and mug in one hand. He knew for a fact that it took longer than twenty-seven hours of no sleep to start hallucinating. (I BANISH YOU TO SLEEP JAIL YOU UNRULY GREMLIN)
But that was the only reason Tim could fathom the Red Hood standing in the kitchen of Titans Tower at half-past three in the morning. (and that’s valid. i too would think i’d be hallucinating lmao)
Red Hood approached Tim slowly. “You have a lot of nerve wearing that uniform.” (jason please LET. THAT. GO.)
Tim glanced down at his rumpled gray shirt and flannel pajama bottoms. (i laughed writing this. i laughed a lot)
He should be more alarmed that the Red Hood clearly knew he was Robin without the mask, but Tim was too tired and he was going to have to push that freak-out to the next day. (me doing homework at 4am like)
19. who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? why?
this time i’ll go with the type of characters. the easiest character for me to write is definitely the one character i relate to the most/ my comfort character because of course, i know them more than any other character and to some level understand their character. the hardest character to write is probably one i don’t really know or one who doesn’t have a lot of character development or there isn’t much info about them. i’ll still write them, but i’ll be making up a lot of stuff lol.
20. what’s your favorite minor character you’ve written?
hmm. i haven’t written many side characters, but i did love writing Dana Winters. she’s very cool and i like her a lot.
21. what is the one fic that got away?
it might just be me but im struggling a bit with what this could mean, so i’m going to assume it means that one fic that didn’t go where i expected it to (if that’s not what you meant, feel free to send me an ask correcting me lol)
so i’d have to say its the second part of this 2 chapter fic i wrote because a lot of people were asking for more cuddles in the first part. i was not expecting writing another fic specifically for fluff, but here we are.
22. have you cried while writing a fic?
definitely during that one major character death fic i wrote. i wrote the aftermath of the character’s death and i was crying while writing it lmao.
i was crying so much writing the ending for this
23. if you had to remix one of your own fics, which would it be and how would you remix it?
i wrote a sort of road trip birdflash au that i wouldn’t mind seeing as a remix
30. tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.
