Thinking of a sentient Gotham AU where she makes Bruce her champion and stuff, and it basically makes B immortal until his mission is complete. Until Gotham is rid of corruption and it's the utopia that B dreams of making it, he's not going to die.
Like, he stopped aging in his mid thirties and no damage done to him is permanent. Bane breaking his back? Gotham healed it up good as new, every time he SHOULD die? He doesn't.
This can go one of two ways with the Batfam:
1) His children are unaffected by his mission and he has to watch them grow old and die.
2) Gotham extends her claim onto his children as well and they are also unable to die.
I prefer option 1 but what do you think?
i loooove sentient gotham thank u for this
i like the idea that like. bruce is constantly grappling with the fact that he's been granted immortality but his loved ones have not. he kind of hates himself for it, honestly. he feels it whenever robin!dick gets injured but never more than that time dick got shot, when he fired him. in this little au, bruce fires him because (in his mind) dick has seen him defy death one too many times and now acts like he can do the same. but he can't. he can die. he will die. but the longer dick is around bruce, the more dick acts like he's invincible. this is not the case, of course - bruce is just projecting. but he thinks, in this desperate attempt to save dick, that if dick stops working with somebody who cannot die, he'll stop acting like he also can't.
but then comes jason. and bruce tells himself that this time will be different. he won't tell jason that he can't die. he won't act like he can't die. this time will be different and jason won't get hurt and everything will be fine and suddenly they're in ethiopia and there's a warehouse and a clown and a boy who knew he could die but who just wanted to save his mother and--
and bruce is constantly grappling with the fact that he's been granted immortality but his loved ones have not. he really hates himself for it, honestly. he hates gotham for it too. why would she give him this blessing and turn it into a curse? why wouldn't she help his children, the people he loves?
gotham may not grant his children immortality, but bruce will. bruce will dig down as deep as he can, tug on strings he didn't know existed, feel the black sludge of magic in his veins and cast it out into the world and it will find his children if bruce has to guide it there himself. gotham fights back, throws everything she has into stopping him, but bruce is too strong, too determined. gotham cannot stop him when he knows her streets better than the endless corridors of his own home.
then something gives. he feels the magic being shared. and he knows, with absolute certainty, that all of his children, past, present and future, will be safe. they will not die.
bruce can now, though. bruce can die. but his children can't, and so bruce is okay with this. because somewhere out there, eyes he thought would stay closed forever have just burst wide open.
#bruce still heals much faster than the average human. gotham still helps him. he just won't live forever.#i think it also has this thing of like. steph or someone who thinks she isn't part of the family realising that she also can't die#that bruce acts like he hates her but he loves her enough for gotham to recognise it.#or on the flip side - someone who's never been sure of their place with batman doesn't find out until the moment they die#also jason coming back and having no idea that bruce was the one who did it#still doing utrh having no idea that no bruce may not have sacrificed his moral code#but he sacrificed his immortality. he gave himself the ability to die so that jason wouldn't.#the ending to this would be that alfred - already Vaguely Something - chooses to give his immortality to bruce in his final moments#and then bruce has to deal with the fact that twice he has been given never-ending life by the death of his parents#this went on so long i'm sorry i have so many more ideas but i'll leave it here for now lmfao#but the misery of bruce remaining immortal while all his children die does also have a strong hold on me#sentient gotham au#bruce wayne#batman#batfamily

Gotham War is shit and all, but I'm starting to get tired of people complaining that Bruce was OOC that was like literally one of the main points
complain about literally anyone else being OOC because they don't have an excuse
#'Bruce was too mean. Bruce would never say that' Zur would and we don't know which one said it#Remember he was possessed by like 100 different guys at the time and not all Bruce's are canonically identical in personality#so the same applies to Zurs#Like it has so many problems but I cannot fault it for doing exactly what it explained it would do and set up from the beginning of the run#the 'he's my son' bit was literally the set up for so much about how he treats his children/family#Zur holds no affection for them but Bruce does#and he has that argument with his alternate self#and then Zur-possessed Bruce acting like an ass is literally a result of that#bruce wayne#batman#gotham war#'gotham war isn't canon to me' get away from me#batfamily#batfam#Zdarsky just wants to write Tim and it shows#even when he's not writing that well it's clear he's doing what he wants#and what he wants is the same rehashed 'bruce cares about them' moment#which has been done better before

If the Spirit of Gotham changes appearance depending on influences from within, then I say let her look like a more androgynous Bruce Wayne.
And, if this is a DP/DC crossover, then let her meet Danny.
And, because of the Fenton Luck, let him meet the real Bruce Wayne.
And, because he’s kind of a dumbass sometimes, let Danny assume that Bruce Wayne is Gotham in a more mortal form, attempting to improve herself from within.
I wanna see what happens.
#dc x dp#dp x dc#danny phantom#danny fenton#batman#I vote that she can choose what she wears tho#because she hates all the rogues crawling around#so she just changes into the people she favors#the fact that she looks like an androgynous Bruce is because#he has so many children#most of them with the same features#it all blends together#but Brucie has the most influence because everything started with him#Danny don’t just spill all your biggest secrets like that#Danny Bruce Wayne isn’t the Spirit of Gotham#Danny no#Oh god he has AirPods in he can’t hear us

I will forever maintain that Jason would've been fine and Not a vigilante without Bruce making him Robin
#''bruce never recruited any kids for his mission/war'' falls apart immediately when u consider jason's backstory im ngl#jason todd#my dc posting#his whole character to me is breaking the conventions of the medium#batman#like i hate how ppl treat others like theyre ridiculous when they even dare to critique bruce in any way#i am capable of suspending my disbelief and accepting some things in fiction as okay even if they wouldnt be irl#its the viewers responsibility to meet stories whre theyre at#but its also the story's responsibility to upkeep that yknow?#''child/teen sidekicks are okay n not morally dubious'' okay :D yay :3#then one of them gets brutally murdered by a villain and im like. yeah uhh no. cant do that anymore 👍sorry#''they all became vigilantes on their own bruce couldnt have stopped them'' yall under the impression bruce hates kid heroes n wants them#properly safe n is just doing damage control/harm prevention#when hes more the lines of encouraging them#difference between ''i cant stop u from doing this so ill make it as safe as i can'' and#''im actively going to encourage you to do this dangerous thing''#i have many opinions n im ngl theyre constantly shifting n they depend on a lot#im not gonna hate on lego batman for robin thats a goddamn childrens movie who tf gives a shit#comics are fair game tho. have u seen what gows on in there.#bruce couldve stopped jason from being a vigilante n instead encouraged him is the hill i will fucking die on#the victim blaming of jason has Got to stoppp its the worst thing ever#also just to remind everyone. ''a good soldier''.#wow a character blames themselves for the death of their child and to torture themselves they put the words 'good soldier' on their memorial#anyway if you even dare to think abt the implications ure stupid n#like do u hear urself whattt

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, dc really needs to get better writers because how do they expect people to like batman if he’s constantly being portrayed as an abuser
#dc comics#dc universe#dcu#batman#bruce wayne#bruce thomas wayne#yeah he’s not perfect but it’s completely out of character to write him that way#and a large part has to do with the numerous writers across series#like babes why are you traumatizing your kids in so many ways and still expect them to want to be associated with you?#anyways his children (especially his two eldest sons because he really puts them both in the ringer the most) deserve better#free bruce wayne from the shackles of the ‘edgy loner asshole’ archetype

I've always loved the story of Matilda. I've only seen the musical once because of how musicals work, and how hard it is to see them not live, but the 90s movie was my favorite movie as a kid. As an adult, Matilda has given me really strong Jason-Todd-feelings. Especially in the song "Naughty," in just how Matilda really subscribes to the idea that if she wants things to be better, or at least to have things made 'right,' she has to do it herself. She can't and shouldn't just sit back and take abuse, she should fight back, no matter how little she is. That spirit in itself just always reminded me of Jason.
But now with the Netflix movie, I've watched the musical several times this week and it's really made me listen to the music (before I only listened to a couple of the songs with any repetition) and Wow do I have feelings. But this song in particular, at first I was thinking about how it would reflect on Jason & Bruce before I realized something...
This is exactly how Tim's story plays out. The song is the final song in the play, and it's called Still Holding my Hand. The lyrics go:
I believed that I would never be able to rely on anybody else. And I was sure that I would just have to learn to survive all by myself. And one day I opened my eyes, and looked to find that the sky had turned blindingly blue. And right by my side was you quietly taking a stand, and you were holding my hand.
And just. Think about that. Tim Drake was this tiny little child who inserted himself in Bruce's life because Batman needed help. He didn't go to Batman for help in anything, and while canon is kind of all over the place on Tim's own situation, he was a neglected child in basically every version. In the main one most people tend to use, he rarely had his parents around, and was instead raised by boarding schools and the housekeeper. But none of those people are parents. They aren't people you can rely on. They're all employees of someone or something. They aren't the same thing as nannies, and even then, nannies aren't replacements for parents. I say that as a former nanny. People who take care of you for a living aren't permanent fixtures in your life, no matter how wonderful, supporting, and loving they are. And that will cause a wall to be built between you, especially if you're used to being moved around or just don't have the same one your whole childhood.
So Tim, being 12 or 13, didn't have anyone in his life he could rely on. He relied on himself, and was fiercely independent as a result. It's certainly one of his strengths, and it was what made him approach Batman and save him over and over again. But even if it was a strength of his, everyone, everyone, but especially children need people they can rely on. And once the grieving-Bruce resigned himself to training this child they bonded. Bruce started noticing things about Tim, about Tim's parents. Or... lack of Tim's parents, and so he stepped up further. He became a father figure in Tim's life. Even if he was hesitant, because Tim wasn't his kid.
And one day.... Tim opened his eyes and saw. And he realized that Bruce was there for him. Bruce cared about him, loved him even, and Tim trusted him with his entire being. Something he never thought would happen. Kid-him relying on an adult so heavily.
Anyway. Now listen to the song and cry with me about it.

#tim drake#tim & bruce#basically my word vomit#ive been thinking about it so heavily today#too bad i dont have a traditional tim & bruce fic WIP right now because id been working on it so hard now 😅#i will say i have never read the book matilda#i know i should probably rectify that#but i havent read many childrens books because im dyslexic and i really couldn't read well until i was an older teenager#and i didnt even get super into reading until i was in my 20s#and so none of these childrens books everyone has as like a foundation have that nostalgia factor for me and theyre hard to read#because theyre written for children lmao#maybe one day ill have kids of my own and ill read them all these books

one last halloween — dcu halloween special (2008)
(ID in alt!)
#i know that man smells rancid but.... i love u batman......#also i love u children of gotham.....#always thinking about how their lives are impacted by the city#the horror tales you whisper at sleepovers and making up crimes from his rogues gallery#the speculation of batman. do you outgrow believing in him like santa?#or are the older children more likely to believe a man is capable and selfless enough to try and help night after night?#the blurry photos from shaky hands. how many photos of batman are from a lower angle where he's at his most towering#because it was taken by a child that managed to get one#do you share it? online for other fans? to your friends to prove his existence; especially if teased for believing in him?#or do you keep it safe and private with the comfort no one will tell you the image is fake or its an impersonator and plant a seed of doubt#the friend arguments on who's batman and who's robin. the teens argue on whos riddler and who's joker#some teens go as harvey and show printed legal documents as a gag#a tragedy of who he once was seemingly so from the person that they now laugh at it#how many robins bruce saw after jasons death and how they twisted an knife inside him#he couldn't protect his little boy but he'll protect them. he has to. its expected of him.#yet seeing those flashes of red or yellow and its a nauseating wave of grief he cant fight off but can only fight through#the children innocent enough to trick or treat. the knowledge that each year theres less and less because#parents don't feel comfortable sending their children out or that they go while theres still some light in the sky. home before dark.#the candy he keeps stored in his belt and replaces with the same necessary and stakes as replacing the batarangs with sharp and fresh ones.#c: dcu halloween special (2008)#crypt's panels#batman#bruce wayne#posts from the crypt#transcrypts

very important announcement: new @birdchildsnest fic!!!
#only the first few chapters have been posted but it already has many gems#''Bruce pressed a finger against his lip and stared at Tim like he was an unusual tire print at the scene of a bank robbery.''#i love this sentence so much. top-tier bruce characterization. like an unusual tire print. that's how you know he's really paying attention#although a close second is ''That’s not how raising children works. If it were Alfred would have exchanged me ages ago'' sdfsfdsfs#i also really like the cass-never-updates-her-computer moment. cass you are NOT stupid :(((( it's okay!! you're okay!!! love yourself!!!#i esp. like how it's filtered through steph's pov so it's hard for us to tell exactly what's going on with cass except that she's defensive#also tiiiiim you should have a pet. accept a pet. you can have things. you are deflecting emotions so hard it's painful#janet muttering into her eggnog 'you hated your father' sdfdsfs bitterly-divorcing drakes are my favorite flavor#also damian hearing the tim-birthday story and immediately connecting it to terrifying talia challenges is inspired#the ''i win. you lose.'' and the tenth birthday challenge is so so good#'You know I can cook my own omelets' Jason said. 'Congratulations' Alfred intoned sdfdsfdsf

Marvel Team-Up (1972) Annual #3
#stopp not the way this woman is so simply able to get the Hulk on her side because she’s a woman that needs help against a man#because of the Hulk’s instinctive trust in and protectiveness towards woman (and children) and distrust of men#‘Men have bothered Hulk too many times! If men stole your package Hulk will get it back!’#he’s so easy#also intrigued by the simplicity of ‘Hunh! If girl wanted Hulk’s help girl should have asked Hulk!’#like obviously it would never occur to her that she didn’t have to mind control the Hulk and could just ask him for help#the Hulk is paranoid and tends to think people think he’s a monster by default#which isn’t unreasonable of him#but I think the Hulk so immediately sees that he has common ground with this woman#that it genuinely doesn’t occur to him that she would also be one of the many people who fear him#marvel#bruce banner#my posts#comic panels

Bruce: well OBVIOUSLY that includes my babies.
At a justice league meeting discussing a major threat and if they should tell the public
Bruce: We don’t want to be causing an international crisis. I suggest we keep this information to only a select few individuals outside this room
At the Batcave
Bruce: News flash, we’re screwed
Jason: I knew it! I told you all that those lights weren’t just a league training gone wrong!
#let’s be honest#oracle has so many cameras and mics in the justice hall#if it happens in the hall of justice the entire Batfam knows about it within the hour#hell bruce probably told them before he told the rest of the league#he fully considers his children part of that room#he just forgot to tell his coworkers about that#in all fairness he fully believes they’re also telling their children and other teammates what’s up#it’s why he’s always so confused when the rest of the jl is confused when the titans and yj show up and know what’s going on#justice league#batfamily#batman

Love the slight AUs where Bruce as Batman has been a member of the league for ages, but he's somehow managed to keep his assortment of children under the radar.
Because it sets up the wildest misunderstandings within the league. He routinely talks about his babies, his children who are all so sweet and kind and occasionally assholes yes but only because they are young (and traumatized) hell I don't think the league would even be aware that they're adopted. So they're all thinking literal children
Barry: Bats really loves his kids.
Hal: I mean they're babies, wait till they hit the angsty teens and I'm sure we'll be hearing the opposite
Which means the day they finally meet Nightwing they don't know wtf to think. For one thing, how old would he have been when he had this kid???? Should they be worried about that???? And for the other, that is not a baby, that is not a precious little thing.
He could break someone in half. Like a twig.
He won't, but he could. And they can see that. (He's bat trained, they have seen what the bat can do they are not fools)
And they're like, okay. Okay maybe he isn't the baby (he is). He's got younger kids right? He's never said how many, they have 0 clues. They've been expecting 1 child, maybe 2 because he'd said kid in the plural exactly once when comforting an older woman while they were searching for her children in the aftermath of a rough battle.
And then a week later they run into Red Hood. In his leather, with his guns. And he drapes himself across Batmans back with all the self confidence in the world and starts whining about the "Brat" breaking into his safe house.
To steal his dog.
And yet again. He is not baby. He is bigger than Batman. He could probably break Batman in half given the bat didn't put up a fight. But Batman looks at him with probably the softest expression they've ever seen on that mans face and tells him very earnestly that the kid just wants to spend time with his older brother, next time they should try a walk. Maybe go to the zoo.
But probably not one of the babies. They're kind, and gentle, and at least one just loves reading and Bats has been trying to encourage that!!!
And then a day later he mentions his "babies" going for a walk in the park and they all instantaneously lose their minds at the confirmation.

DP x DC Prompt
Danny and Jazz always were together in life, and they would remain together as siblings whenever Jazz would reincarnate as a mortal again.
Jazz reincarnated a lot, wanting to experience the different things in those dimensions she chose with a fresh start and no memories. She had many adventures in her new lives, with Danny beside her as her 'Imaginary Friend' whenever she was a kid and her 'Guardian Angel' during the rest of her lives.
This new life she has reincarnated in has her living as a rich woman with a loving husband and a kid. The first time he's seen her have one in her many lives. He couldn't save Jazz or her husband's lives because of Clockwork, who had sent him on a small mission related to time.
When he returned to the dimension with Jazz's new life, he arrived at the funeral for Thomas and Martha Wayne, with their Ghosts behind Bruce. Martha, or Jazz again, had embraced Danny in a hug and told Thomas the basics of who Danny was to her, but before they left, Jazz left some parting words to Danny.
"Look after my son, little brother. Protect him like you how you protect me."
So Danny does. He follows Bruce around while he's training to become Batman. And when Bruce returns to Gotham to be Batman, he helps him with Lady Gotham. With each kid Bruce brings into his family, Danny duplicates himself to help each of them.
Danny had killed the Joker after his resurrection by Bruce when the Clown was alone. He couldn't do it while the Joker was living, as he needed to follow the rules, or else he would have had more paperwork to sort through.
Danny had been telling Jazz and Thomas about their son and what he's been doing about his feats, his children, and his friends. They did support Danny's decisions on killing the Joker. He felt a tug on his core, the tug that happens when he is being summoned, so he quickly said his goodbyes to Jazz and Thomas and accepts the summoning.
What shocks him is seeing that he's in the Watchtower, with the Justice League there, including Bruce and his children. All of his seriousness is drained out of him, and he smiles at Bruce and his family.
"My nephew, it is good to finally speak to you"
