Why I like them: he is just So Much. Idk how to describe it, he just has everything, his entire story, from being the naive rookie, to the jaded recovery agent, then being made into blue leader and becoming a real part of the team more and more over the seasons, I just loved it all.

Why I dont: hmm well i always felt like he kinda pressured Church into sacrificing himself in S6, and its unclear if Church fully understood what he was agreeing to. Thats the only thing though

Why I like them: He’s so chewy, he’s like a little chew toy for my brain. *slaps the roof of his helmet* This bad boy can fit so much hypocrisy in it! He cares too much and buries it under bitching and insults and complaining. He’s exhausted and worn the fuck out and can’t be arsed about anything and god if that isn’t a fucking mood. Worn out from shit he can’t even remember! They took so much out of him it’s a miracle he’s still conscious. I get a lot of like. Protective feelings about him I guess? Probably because system feels. anywho-

Why I don’t: I don’t not like him, in any way honestly. I doubt we’d get along irl but as a character? I love him don’t change a thing.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): I genuinely cannot pick. Season one had a lot of good ones. Maybe, if I absolutely had to pick, gun to my head, it’d be one of the ones where he’s looping through time trying to fix things, where he realises he’s a huge fucking dork.

Favorite season/movie: Season 6 was a masterpiece, but I am also extremely fucking sad about the state he was in after being relocated and isolated :(

Why I like them tucker is literally my exact type of fictional dude. he’s a ball of barely contained repression and toxic masculinity when literally all he wants is connection and love. he pretends that he doesn’t care but not only does he care very badly, he wants to care very badly. he puts on this glamour of false machismo and aloofness and playboy energy but when the cards are on the table that persona fails and he just. does what’s right. you see this with junior, you see this with season 4s quest, with being the alien ambassador, with the end of season 8, the end of season 10 (tbf that applies to all the bgc but still), and of course this shines through the most is chorus, where that’s literally the main arc of 11-12. he craves intimacy but doesn’t think he’s deserving of it or capable of gaining it so he pushes woman away with his misogyny and he pushes men away with his homophobia.

For the character ask! Sorry this took me a while, I can't copy and paste on mobile, so I waited till I got on desktop tumblr! Thank you so much for asking about him, I could go on forever lol so this is gonna be fucking LONG. Please, anyone, feel free to ask about any other character, too. These are fun.

Why I like them: Grif is, for lack of a better word, complex. On one hand, it's like, okay he's just a funny comedy character. But on the other hand, he's like every all of my favorite archetypes of a character. He's crafty but stupid, selfish but selfless, antisocial but friendly, the straight man but the dramatic guy, he's snarky but oddly caring: the reluctant hero. It's kind of paradoxical, and I feel like not only do I relate to him, but I just really enjoy him overall. Whether it's because he's a good brother, being a complete dickbag because he doesn't know how to handle emotions, being a complete cynic on the battlefield, or being hyperactive and snappy, it's just... ah. He. Everything in his life just happens, and he has to deal with it, and yeah he'll kick and pout and probably eat everything but in the end, he's gonna choose his family and he cares deeply... even when he can't really show it.

Why I don’t: I see this a lot in myself too - the fact that he's impulsive and inherently negative when he speaks specifically. his words don't match his actions. He often doesn't hesitate when it comes to making negative comments because they are easier than saying something nice, but what his intentions are are completely different. in other words, he's a jerk, lol. Especially in season 15. I know people felt bad for him because he was partially right and went insane on Iris, but he lowkey deserved it. He said he hated his friends, and even his closest friend. He didn't want to admit that he was a good person just because he didn't want to help. yeah, it was valid, but he needs to learn how to make a case without fucking everyone emotionally and being so clammed up. >:/ sometimes it feels like he regresses in character, as much as he's matured. i guess that's realistic and just the writers making comedy, but also the way he handles Doc specifically irks me. so mean spirited for no reason, as funny as it is.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): OH MY GOD, okay, literally, every single episode with Grif starring as a main is fucking gold. I think for this I'm going to say, uh, This One Goes to Eleven. Even though it's not Grif-centric, it's the episode that's my favorite overall because it introduced me to RvB and made me like Grif right away, simply because he was attacked so much and I felt so bad for him. Another great one that sticks out right now in my sleep deprived state, is Grif does a Rescue. Augh. And the episode where Grif and Simmons get stuck underground in the caves.

Favorite season/movie: Season 8 (shotgun!!!, hyperactive ai grif), Season 11 (hanging in the canyon with simmons), Season 4 (the tank and blue simmons w/ grif), Season 5/6 (kai and rat's nest), Season 12/13 (the recruits, grif building the snowmen), Season 14 (backstory with simmons, Room Zero), Season 15 (you know why)

Favorite line: OK, don't make me choose. There are SO many that are good!!! I think one of my most favorite things that Grif says is "yoink!" It's so adorable! I also really enjoy "BLUEEE TEAAAAM SUCKKKKKS" with his epsilon double, the whole "invisible nap" scene, "what are we, on a date?"/"I can tell you what we weren't doing", "no one made me, I made me", "WERE GONNA FUCKING DIE" when charging at the meta, "that's a figure of speech?" [when carolina says im so hungry i could eat a horse is a figure of speech], "dexta grif he who shall not be messed with!"... I'm sure I'm missing a lot, he has SO many snarky funny lines, but these are some off the top of my head.

Favorite outfit: LOL THIS IS SUCH A FUNNY QUESTION BECAUSE THIS IS RVB. HAHAHA. Uh. Season 6 probably. I just like Halo 3 Graphics. Also s14 Room Zero because THEY DREW HIM FAT CANONICALLY. THANK YOU.

OTP: I'm with the majority of people in the fandom who like Grimmons! I think Grimmons is the only ship that I really vocally ship with my whole heart besides OC ships. I just very much enjoy their dynamic -- it's very angsty, dialogue full, intimate yet so unspoken. It's just a really good pair to write about and see the development of through canon. And, not to mention... season 15... hrk...

Brotp: I really REALLY want grif/tucker, grif/church, grif/locus BROTP. SO SO SO BAD. I've always seen grif and tucker as bros, grif and church are HILARIOUS together and we were ROBBED of more time together, and grif and locus are fucking adorable.

Head Canon: I have a lot of headcanons about Grif, but one of my favorite ones is that he has half-lidded eyes, like he's always sleepy. I also headcanon him as bisexual, though I think that is a popular headcanon!

Unpopular opinion: I dunno if I have super unpopular opinions about Grif... maybe that I think that his labryinth wasn't as bad as it seems at first? A lot of people seemed to think that though, yknow. Like if you look deeply into it, it's actually kinda fucked. But I feel like we should have gotten the Hawaii scene anyways. Hm. I also didn't like how they altered the canon so that Grif wasn't drafted. I think it does add something to his char that he chose to go, but I always really liked the aspect that Grif didn't control that, and yet he still did this on purpose. He was good on purpose.

A wish: A badass Grif carchase scene for the love of FUCK. We need to have him drive more stuff !!!!!!!!

Why I like them: Tucker is such a real person. He's a real guy you can just... find. He's competent and insecure and he's clever, observant, and angry, he's a good dad and he's a nerd, he's sarcastic and a smartmouth and it's all just OUGH. He's a real dude! You can sympathize with him even if he's a little shit sometimes, and he really fucking cares about doing the right thing and being responsible. He's got a lot on his shoulders that he never wanted on them and it shows.

Why I don’t: The. Gross sexual stuff. His defense mechanism of acting gross so he'll know why people don't like him works on me I am thoroughly repelled. To be fair though those anti-livestock predator blinky lights also work on me so like,

Why I like them-

Like a lot of fans, it took me a bit to warm up to her, but she grew on me! All the characters certainly have angst going on, but Carolina certainly has A Past, and I guess what amazes me is like... she seems very intense and serious, but she still had no control over some of the things that happened to her, and after all of it, she continues to live and do her best to move on. No matter how strong a person is, life can still toss you around and mess you up. Once you realize she's actually on even-footing with everybody else in that regard, it becomes clear that she's also just as capable of being silly and stupid too. So basically, I like that she's a total bad-ass, AND still a bratty dork (I say this affectionately)

Why I don’t-

eh, what I mostly don't like is just kinda... how little she got to do hanging out with her new family of ding-dongs? I wish we got to see more nonsense with her and the others on Iris. I don’t like when her only character development is learning the same stressful lesson over and over (well, in different ways/situations, but still kinda repeats without getting to certain issues that she probably REALLY needs to talk about)

Favorite episode (scene if movie)-

The bit where she tries to joke and say Tucker's Bow-chicka-bow-wow is VERY funny, but I also love her facing the EXTREME nightmare-version of herself in the Labyrinth (it was awesome to see how she’s come to understand her own problems, and ALSO that she is happy to be able to rely on her friends now! she loves her new family of morons~)

Favorite season/movie-

Seeing her working with Epsilon during the Chorus-arc was great, because we can finally see how she's gone from GRR-REVENGE to more chill and it was just... really emotional to see how she and Church BOTH helped each other, and they really got along!

Favorite line-

Her deciding that she is now "Sista Feminista" in the Diversity PSA is pretty hilarious

Favorite outfit-

I honestly don't like either of her helmets in the official designs... from my own fan art, I like these~

(I just like imagining how she figures out her own sense of fashion after a while, probably with help from Kai and Donut. she can be comfortable and still sporty with a tough edge, while also enjoying clothes that are pretty)

Finally got around to finishing this!

Why I like them: I like that he’s complex. uh *checks notes* that’s it, i think. He had some funny lines in BGC. Nothing else specific is really coming to mind. Alright it’s the next day I’m back— with nothing more to add. I love all these canyon dumbasses I’m just bad at verbalizing those feelings

Why I don’t: I HATED Tucker in the early seasons. Hated him. So much. I don’t feel as strongly about him in season 16 as I know a lot of people do (I’m more frustrated by some writing choices regarding tonal whiplash), but they could’ve done better. Season 18 though… Tucker did not exist in season 18. In fact, there is no season 18. Full stop.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): The one where he was aware of Wyoming’s time looping was pretty cool.

Favorite season/movie: I think he had some good stuff going on in the chorus trilogy. It’s been a bit though. Specifics are fuzzy. I need to rewatch.

Favorite line: “For the record, I want you to know: rocks aren’t people.”

Favorite outfit: Maybe Halo 2? Looks nice. For out of armor clothes in fanart, I think sweatpants really suit him.

OTP: I don’t really have a Tucker otp but Tuckington is pretty cute. I’m a hardcore grimmons fan but Tucker & Simmons is one I think I’d be interested in seeing. Like, just to see how someone would write that. My only noTP is sucker. Pre-season 16 is fine, but otherwise it feels like “no doesn’t actually mean no it just means she’s playing hard to get” which is uncomfy vibes.

Brotp: Tucker and Kai’s dynamic is so fun. Gotta love your friend who you go back and forth giving each other shit but when it comes down to it you care about each other and you both know it. That’s the vibes. Also Kai as Tucker’s wingman > Kai dating Tucker imo. I’d love to see more of Tucker interacting with the reds, because his dynamics with Church, Caboose, and Wash are beautiful but while those are can’t-go-wrong classics, variety is the spice of life.

Head Canon: Personally I write Tucker as straight. I’m not opposed to other headcanons, but for a few reasons I decided to make him the token straight guy. I HC that they were exaggerating the number of Tucker’s Chorus kids but it’s still A LOT.

Unpopular opinion: I can see where people are coming from about season 16 Tucker, but… Also I’m okay with it. Yeah, he learned to be a leader on Chorus, but season 16 wasn’t about lack of knowing how to be a leader. It was about tackling those negative things baked into his brain and not just setting them aside temporarily but staring them down and acknowledging it was a big-ass problem. It’s HARD to change coping mechanisms and habits of any kind. I’ve toned down my self-deprecating humor in the past couple years, but it was a thing I did for most of my life. Change is hard. And you often don’t realize there’s an issue until it’s pointed out. I’m not excusing his past behavior like “oh yeah, totally okay to be misogynistic and objectify women!” no. Absolutely not. But people are allowed to change and grow. But again, let’s have him be past that now. Or at least catching himself and apologizing if he slips up.

A wish: season 18 never happened because it doesn’t exist and Tucker still has his sword. I don’t want him to become some mentor or whatever the fuck i jusT wanT hiM tO havE hiS GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING SWORD. He knows how to handle his own sword best after all. bow chicka wow wow.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Thankfully this didn’t happen because NOTHING EXISTS AFTER SEASON 17, but no more character regression. You acknowledged the misogyny so stoppit. You’re done with that now. Also, never stop portraying him as a caring dad. You KNOW even if he felt intimidated at first he’d come around and at least visit his Chorus kids fairly regularly.

I just realized something: This business with Church maybe being back again bears some similarities to when Tex was brought back again and again. And it only ended when Epsilon was able to let her go. What if the same thing is happening here, and this is going to end with Tucker and Caboose accepting that it’s time to let Church go? I mean, if he is still around, he’s likely a prisoner of the UNSC, and is probably a shell of whatever he used to be. What if we get a callback to Season 10, except with Caboose?!

Church: Huh...? Who the hell are you?

Caboose: What? You do not remember me?

Church: Ugh. I’m sorry. I‘m just...so tired. My name is...

Caboose: You are Church! And I am Caboose! I can remind you if you forget.

It eventually ends with Caboose realizing that Church can’t come with them and needs to finally rest.

Caboose: If you are tired, then...then,you should go to sleep now.

Church: Sleep... That sounds really nice.

Caboose: Yeah... Well, I need to go now. Bye.

Church: Weird. I don’t know why, but I hate goodbyes.

Caboose: Yeah. Me too... Goodbye, Church.

I feel like it should be discussed more that everyone inside the memory unit in s9, besides Church and Tex, are actually representations of what Church thinks of them. 

And like? I find it really interesting that Church apparently considers Tucker to be a voice of reason, at least in context of his relationship with Tex. That, in his mind, Tucker would realize how fucking creepy and stalker-ish that relationship was, and boot him in the butt to move on.

And I know I give a lot of shit about how Epsilon and Tucker act like their best friends even though they’ve barely interacted, but when I look at season 9 under these lenses, it’s easy to see that Epsilon really does care about Tucker, and everyone else in the BGC, and that he does trust him and considers him to be a close friend. 

I wish that had happened like y’know, outside of the memory unit, but I’ll take what I can get.

favorite male character: Now, this is a tough one because Felix is the one I actively fan out over these days, but I actually recently realized I had to quit watching the show altogether because it’s absolutely not the same without Church. favorite female character: I still miss Tex. least favorite character: GENKINS. I thought he was gonna be cool; HE WAS NOT prettiest character: I mean, based on the way the Director looks and since Church is a clone of him, I’mma have to say Church. Now, why not just say the Director? Because I like Church better as a person and I’d rather give him the award. omg aaa thank you !!!! and yes i totally fuckin' can! lets go church hours!!!!! if anyone else wants to ask, this is for a chara ask! I did one for simmons and grif already :) also, sorry this is so late, i kept getting distracted!!!!!!

Why I like them: church is one of those characters where it is difficult NOT to like them. not only do you go through his whole life story within the series, you see the most likable parts of him. I think my favorite thing about church is ... hm. I really like when he goes all squeaky with anger or embarrassment. Those moments really humanize him. I also love his odd accidental charm? Like "miss me, assholes?" (though that was epsilon) or his softer side moments with tucker or caboose or tex.

Why I don’t: he takes too much plot lmfao, like we get it edgy man you're the story now let the others take a turn. also i feel like some of the relationships he had were a bit wasted. id love to see more red team interaction? more development with wash too!

Favorite episode (scene if movie): y'all know im going to say his death episodes -- every one of them were perfeclty crafted. I really enjoyed how selfless he was in those moments, despite what you'd expect.

Favorite season/movie: s6-8 was good for church tbh. that's when i really started to like him!

Favorite line: man. rvb is such a LINE HEAVY series that it is SO hard to choose. i think mm... every time he called tex a bitch, his insults towards caboose, and i DO really love the "missed joke" when he's with Caboose... xD. and. of course. "son of a bitch!" -- OH OH AND -- "THERE IS NO 11 YOU WHORE!!"

OTP: i dont really have an otp w church. tbh i enjoy chex lots, but also churchnut!!! i do also like churboose as romantic OR platonic
