there was a room in the old family farmhouse that was technically my uncleâs office but we just called it âthe clown roomâ because it was decorated floor to ceiling with clownery. clown paintings and posters. piles of clown magazines. clown statues. and even worse is the house was burnt down at one point and when they finished fixing it up they put the clown room back together with the same decorations, now all at least somewhat damaged in the fire, the worst of which were the horrific partially melted clown statues
#real âwe dont have a kid take our clown statue and get outâ type of family#the fire was started by a disgruntled handyman who broke into a safe stole the family jewels and burnt down the farm on his way out#then he moved in next door to one of my cousins#and put our auntâs horse trailer (which he had also stolen lol)#for sale in his front yard lmao#self#text

The ability to evacuate is a privilege and Iâm sick of people applying Florida logic to the Appalachians right now. Yes it is horrible for those who couldnât in Florida but the people in the Appalachianâs had no warning. People still have âdial upâ there, 55.9% of the population is under the poverty line. âIâve been seeing warnings for a weekâ no you havenât the warnings were for Florida and Georgia, even then it wasnât supposed to hit the apps like this at most flooding but they would recover. When hurricane helene took that turn it was too late to even warn others before dams broke. The infrastructure is not meant to take this beating especially given the storm they had the week before causing all of the waterways to be full already. Towns are wiped out, towns that relied on tourism and coal mining to bring in revenue are gone. My great aunt and uncle lived in a trailer off a plot of land and were so happy they finally got a clean running water system hooked up two years ago. They have one tiny little old android that they have to travel about an hour in town to use so they can call us up. They lived off a fixed income because any sort of job was two hours away at least and theyâre getting older they canât just travel that much anymore. My great uncle canât walk without his cane and my great aunt is getting there too. They always joked about taking me home with them and I would always say when I got older they would come live with me because I knew how rough it was for them but they couldnât just leave. I havenât been able to contact them in over 48 hours and the highways leading out after the one hour evacuation notice was given was shut down. Most places are air rescues only because there is no other way for them to be rescued. To add on as well that they deployed FEMA in many of the places affected but yet there is barely any coverage and radio silence from our government. No national guards are here to rescue them they are left to fend for themselves. People are drowning, being electrocuted, some didnât even stand a chance. These are human beings who have been prayed on for generations the least you can do is show some fucking sympathy. I donât care what you have to say familyâs are being devastated. I wouldnât wish anything like this to happen to anyone so if you find yourself in your bed at night I hope you know that out there, there are families who are grieving all they have lost and you are cozy at home with running water, electricity and a warm bed and you feel an ounce of guilt for even thinking that.
A link to ways that you can help. Keep Appalachia in your minds do not look away.
#hurricane helene#appalachia#i donât know how to tag this#I just want my family to be okay#please have some sympathy#donât look away#there so much more I wanna say but I canât#grieving with Appalachia#east tennessee#western north carolina#blue ridge parkway#appalachain mountains#hurricane#kentucky#important#natural disasters

summary: you've never been kissed and eddie has been crushing on you since the day you met
18+ [bestfriend!eddie x female!reader]
contains: hurt/comfort, mutual pining, fluff, friends to lovers, kissing, brief mention of alcohol, swearing
word count: 4k
a/n: this is my first time writing for eddie and I'm excited to share him with you! this is very self-indulgent but I hope you like it. please consider reblogging/commenting if you do, my blog is brand new! enjoy â¤
Thereâs a romantic comedy playing on the television, something you picked up from Family Video for your bi-weekly movie night with Eddie. It was your turn to pick, and after sitting through a terrible slasher film he claimed to love, you wanted to get him back with a movie you didnât necessarily have interest in, but knew would make him squirm in his seat.Â
He grabbed the snacks while you got the movie, and you met up at his trailer after Wayne left for work, the sun setting beyond the horizon and leaving a cold autumn breeze in its place. A routine that had been kept for almost six-months straight.
A bowl of popcorn sat between the two of you, an open bag of sour patch kids resting against your thigh and a half-empty bottle of beer was clasped in Eddieâs hand, resting lazily on his knee where he sat on the opposite side of the sofa.Â
You always looked forward to these nights, but today you felt particularly resentful about your choice of film, the two main characters falling in love mere days after meeting. Itâs cheesy and cliche, and not all that realistic. You know that. But it makes your chest ache with longing for something youâve never had.Â
And now, unbeknownst to you, youâve been watching the movie play out with a pout sitting on your face while Eddie has to bite back his smile each time the male protagonist kisses the girl that looks a little like you if he squints hard enough.Â
The two of you had been best friends since high school and now you were spending most of your time in college while Eddie worked at an auto shop, which left your get-togethers pushed to the weekends unless one of you showed up at the other's place without warning after a long day. Youâd also been crushing on him practically since the day you met, but had kept your feelings to yourself, ignorant to the fact that Eddie also had eyes for you for longer than he was willing to admit to himself.Â
Youâve watched him go through a handful of relationships in the time youâve known him.Â
From hearing the disbelief in his voice when he scored a date with Chrissy Cunningham and seeing her hanging off of his arm around school for four months, before you all graduated and she broke it off with a voicemail left on Wayneâs home phone and headed off to university in Indianapolis; to random hookups from his evenings spent at The Hideout that you encountered in awkward meetings when you showed up at his trailer to spend the day with him, finding girls in his clothes sipping coffee that they helped themselves to while Eddie snoozed for another hour.Â
Eddie has been your best friend for five years. Six in only a couple of months. And he has been with a total of nine different women.Â
Not that youâre counting or anything.Â
His relationships never bother you. Not really. But the nagging thought in the back of your mind every time you think about him, was that you havenât been with anyone.Â
Youâve had nothing more than a brief conversation with boys in required discussion groups in college. And other than the frequent hugs you receive from Eddie, the furthest youâve ever gone with someone was a kiss on the cheek from one of your girlfriends that was slightly too close to the corner of your mouth, and left your body erupting in tingles.Â
But Eddie had game. He knew how to make a girl swoon. How to wrap them around his finger and kiss them until they were weak in the knees and red in the face.
You had seen him kiss a handful of times and were ashamed to admit to yourself that you had crawled into your bed with your hand between your thighs more than once, wishing it was you he was kissing and touching and making crumble with one particularly smitten look on his face.
He glances at you when you haven't said a word in over an hour, seeing the frown on your face and the crease between your brows that he desperately wants to smooth over with his thumb. You never had a great poker face, unintentionally putting most of your emotions on display, and he knows you have no idea youâre pouting.Â
âDid you run out of candy?â He asks suddenly, making you turn to him, the wrinkle in your forehead deepening in confusion. âYouâre grumpy.âÂ
âIâm not grumpy,â you huff, plucking your aforementioned candy off the sofa and popping one into your mouth.Â
Your knees are pulled up to your chest, body leaning away from Eddie with your legs resting against the arm of the sofa. He knows something is up when your eyes donât return to the movie, lips pursing as you suck on the candy in your mouth and stare at the bag in your hands, pretending to read the ingredients.Â
He quietly sets his beer down on the coffee table, moving the barely touched popcorn off of the sofa and clicking pause on the remote, filling the room with silence. You look up at him and he rests his arm on the back of the sofa, the palm of his hand pressing into his cheek.Â
âAre you going to keep pouting for the rest of the night, or tell me whatâs wrong?â He asks, brow arching in question and you fight the urge to roll your eyes.Â
âIâm fine,â you mutter, dropping your candy onto the table and bundling your hands together in your lap.Â
âYouâre a liar, is what you are,â he accuses.Â
You sigh, slumping further down into the sofa with your cheek resting on the cushion as you turn to meet his gaze.Â
His brown eyes sparkle in the dim light of the room, his usually untamed hair pulled back with a bun at the base of his skull, stray pieces falling softly to frame the sides of his face. He looks pretty. He always does, but your current state of mind has you looking away as your heart skips a beat, gaze falling to his chest which is covered with a well-worn Dio shirt.Â
âI want that,â you admit quietly, voice barely audible to yourself.Â
âYou want what?â He questions, brows furrowing.Â
You flicker your eyes over to the television and he turns his head to look at the screen, the film paused on a scene of a girl lounging beside a pool with a fluffy dog in her lap, sipping on a bright purple cocktail.Â
âA dog? A pool- or do you want a drink? I can try and make you something but I donât know what we haveâŚâ He trails off in confusion and you sigh, rubbing your hands over your face.Â
âJust forget it,â you mumble into your palms before crossing your arms over your stomach and tilting your eyes up to the ceiling.Â
Eddie feels clueless as he tries to work out your unspoken desire in his head, gaze shifting around the room until he spots the fictional couple on the cover of the rented VHS tape.Â
A lightbulb flicks on in his head.Â
âYou want someone?âÂ
Your eyes dart to him quickly enough that he knows heâs right before you give him a subtle nod of your head, pulling the sleeves of your sweater over your hands as you feel your face grow hot.Â
âYou will one day,â he assures you but you just shake your head, that being the last thing you want to hear.Â
Eddie knows about your relationship history, or rather, lack thereof, but you never talk about it. So heâs surprised with your next statement, his heart leaping into his throat and the energy in the room shifting.Â
âNo one has ever found me attractive⌠or at least not enough to do something about it. Itâs hopeless.âÂ
He keeps a straight face but curls his fingers into a fist at his side, silently cursing himself for never telling you how pretty you really are. He thinks youâre the prettiest and most attractive person heâs ever known, but has never said a word out of fear that youâll stop being his best friend.Â
âItâs not hopeless,â he says quietly. âThe guys who havenât made a move on you are pussies.âÂ
His partially self-degrading comment was meant to make you laugh, but you donât. Not even giving him a pitying laugh or a half-forced smile.Â
âNo one has ever even glanced in my direction,â you say and he frowns.Â
âThat youâve seen.âÂ
âEddieâŚâ you sigh, unsure of why you start to feel emotion welling up in your chest.Â
"Sorry."
âI just⌠I grew up surrounded by friends who had boyfriends, or flings, or were flirted with- kissed stupid outside of bars or on the bench behind school. And no one-â your words get caught in your chest and you swallow down the lump forming in your throat. âNo one has ever even looked at me. Do you know how that feels?â
You look up at him but he doesnât reply, his eyebrows threading together as he watches you bare your heart to him like this for the first time.Â
âTo have guys look at everyone around you, but never you? To never have anyone like you enough to say something about it? To⌠to have maybe had three guy friends who never saw you as anything more, that you havenât even spoken to in years?âÂ
You know he doesnât get it. Not at all. But it doesnât matter.Â
âGod, Eddie.â You scrub at your eyes when tears gloss over your vision. âIâve never even kissed someone,â your voice cracks and falls into a whisper.Â
He immediately reaches forward to wrap his hands around your ankles and pull you towards him, swiftly maneuvering you to sit with your legs thrown over his lap and your head buried in his neck.Â
âIâm sorry,â he says quietly, running his hand over your waist. You sniffle sadly. âFuck, sweetheart, Iâm sorry.âÂ
He knows that all of the potentially comforting words forming in his brain wonât make you feel better. Because he doesnât understand what itâs like to be your age and never kissed.Â
You donât want to hear that itâll happen one day. You donât know what you want.Â
Maybe comfort isnât something that words would necessarily give you right now.Â
âI know that itâll probably happen one day but⌠what if it doesnât?â You whimper, curling into him as your vulnerability takes over. He holds you tighter to him, shaking his head. âI donât even know what it feels like to be wanted. I canât even imagine anyone wanting me. No one ever has.âÂ
His heart feels like itâs going to crumble into pieces in his chest as he lets you talk out your feelings, his hand gripping your thigh tightly. Youâre almost completely perched in his lap, but he canât focus on how you feel against him when your tears are wetting the collar of his shirt.Â
âGod I feel fucking pathetic,â you mumble, wiping your hand over your eyes and sitting up. âSorry.âÂ
âYouâre not pathetic,â he says, making you scoff quietly as you dab at your cheeks with your sleeves, staring down at your lap. âYouâre human. Itâs pretty human to want to feel desired.âÂ
âYeah,â you whisper, sniffling back the remainder of your tears and lifting your eyes to find his pretty brown ones staring back at you.Â
Thereâs something different in his gaze now. Something youâve only seen a few times. Something loving and soft, and so sweet that it makes your breath hitch in your throat.Â
Eddie figures that now is as good a time as any to potentially make a complete fool out of himself in an attempt to make you feel better. To make you feel like youâre worthy of being desired. Because god knows heâs been desiring you since the day you accidentally fell into his lap in the cafeteria after being shoved out of the way with a harsh shoulder by some prissy cheerleader on the second day of school.
âYouâre beautiful,â he says so quietly that you almost donât hear him.Â
âEddieâŚâ you mumble, shutting your eyes and moving to climb off of his lap.Â
His hand on your thigh tightens and you pause, his eyes tracing delicately over your features.Â
âYou want someone to look at you,â he says, the corners of his lips quivering in a small smile. âSo Iâm looking, sweetheart.âÂ
His eyes flicker down to your lips and you want to say something. To pull away and turn the movie back on, get off of his lap and pretend like you were never there in the first place. But the way heâs looking at you is something youâve only ever seen him do with his past girlfriends or someone heâs crushing on. Never to you.Â
Your cheeks feel warm as he looks at you and you can almost feel his eyes as they trace over your hairline and down the bridge of your nose, past your lips and dropping down to your chest before meeting yours again. Your stomach twists with nerves as his hand leaves your thigh to rest on the side of your neck, his thumb smoothing across the skin of your cheek.Â
âEddie,â your voice is a whisper, heart pounding in your chest. âStop.âÂ
He can feel the nerves radiating off of you but he doesnât move, one of his brows quirking up in question. âWhatâs wrong?âÂ
âI-I donât⌠I-â you stumble for a reason why you want him to stop looking at you like that.Â
You wrack your brain while he sits patiently for an answer, but you quickly understand that you donât want him to stop. Youâre just terrified.Â
You donât have to speak to understand what could happen, with how heâs gazing at you and touching you so softly as if youâll break under his palms at any second. Holding you in a way he never has before.Â
âPlease donât be making one of your stupid jokes right now,â you say, a plea that has his face softening and his thumb brushing across your bottom lip.Â
âIâm not joking, baby,â he murmurs, the pet name making your heart stammer in your chest. âYouâre gorgeous. And I was too afraid to say anything in case you didnât feel the same and left because you were uncomfortable around me.âÂ
You suddenly feel like crying again, a wave of disbelief washing over you as you realize that your best friend and the person youâve been silently wanting for almost six years wants to give you everything you were just begging for.Â
âI could never be uncomfortable around you,â you say and he smiles, hooking his arm around your waist and twisting you so that youâre facing him, your knees pressing into the sofa on either side of his hips.Â
âI mean it,â he said and all you can do is nod.Â
The position youâve found yourself in is foreign in more ways than one, but especially with it being Eddie who has put you there. You feel slightly overwhelmed with your shorts riding up on your thighs and your skin cold where the metal of the chain on his belt presses against you. Rough denim scratching softly at your legs and a subtle heat radiating through the fabric that makes you slightly dizzy as you get a whiff of his cologne.Â
Your hands are clenched into fists around the fabric of his t-shirt and he can feel your heart racing where his palm is still pressing against the side of your neck.Â
âItâs just me, yeah?â He says and you swallow the sudden dryness in your throat. âThereâs nothing to be scared of.âÂ
He knows you need him to make all of the moves right now and heâs okay with it, even despite the way his heartbeat is quickening to catch up with yours.Â
âCan I kiss you?âÂ
His question makes your head spin and your stomach tightens. âI⌠Iâve never-âÂ
âI know.â The gentle reassurance that falls from his lips soothes you and you give him another quick nod.Â
Thereâs still a hint of a smile on his face when he leans forward to brush his lips against yours.
He doesnât kiss you right away, the tip of his nose nudging yours as he pulls back just enough to gauge your reaction. Your eyes are closed and your lips part slightly with a shaky sigh, hands unknowingly pulling the neckline of his shirt down to grasp for any semblance of reality as you sit in his lap.Â
He slides his hand to the back of your neck, guiding you forward an inch to meet his mouth, lips slotting against yours. His lips are soft and slightly chapped, and when a strand of his hair brushes against your cheek, you donât bother to pull away even when it tickles your skin.Â
The hand on your neck is a grounding touch and you think youâve never felt so safe and comfortable in Eddieâs arms before.
He can feel the way you relax into his kiss, your body slumping just enough to rest your chest against his and fingers untangling from his shirt to drop into his lap. Youâre not breathing so he pulls away after just a few seconds, lips parting from yours with a quiet click and you immediately take a deep breath through your nose, your eyes fluttering open.Â
You think if your brain was working properly, youâd be worried that this was all a ploy for him to get your first kiss out of the way so youâd stop crying, but the only thing floating through your mind is how nice it felt to have his lips on yours.Â
His face is close to yours, lashes brushing his cheekbones as he sits with his eyes closed, the hand on your waist sliding down to rest on the top of your thigh. The tip of his tongue pokes out as he wets his lips before exhaling a long breath through his nose, a tiny smirk tugging at his mouth.Â
âShit,â he breathes, squeezing your thigh before tipping his head back to rest on the sofa cushion. âI really canât believe it took me this long to kiss you.âÂ
âYou mean that?â You fight the urge to bring your hand up to feel your lips, wondering how long you might have to wait to feel his again.Â
He peels his eyes open and looks down at you. âYou have no idea.â
You feel a smile begin to form on your face and you duck your chin to hide against his chest, fingers still trembling from clutching his shirt so tightly as you lift your arms to slink around his neck. He chuckles and curls his arms around you, tilting his head down and burying his nose in your hair.Â
âDonât get all shy on me now, sweetheart,â he says, a shiver running down his spine as you slide your fingers into his hair, loosening the elastic holding it back.Â
He doesnât care about his hair as your nose presses into his neck and your breath warms the skin beneath his shirt. âDid I do alright for your first time?âÂ
Your face goes flush at his choice of words and he fights back a moan when you press a quick kiss to his neck before lifting your head, unable to hold back the coy grin that sits on your lips.Â
You nod and he smiles, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on your lower back.Â
âYeah? Think itâd be okay if I did it again?âÂ
âPlease,â you say and he wastes no time in kissing you again.Â
Your hands blindly tug the elastic band out of his hair, sliding it onto your wrist and tangling your fingers into the mess of curls at his neck. His lips drag over yours in lingering kisses that make your stomach twist with heat, tasting a hint of the candy he was munching on earlier in the evening.Â
Youâre consumed by the new sensation of his lips moving against yours and the frizzy curls hooked around your fingers, the thick of your thighs resting on his own with a silent invitation to scooch your hips a little closer to his if you wanted to.Â
Eddie is kissing you. Keeping his advances small but addicting, pushing back a smile each time he feels you chase his lips when he pulls back. You canât get enough.Â
So you donât really notice when he relaxes back against the sofa, resting his hands on your soft thighs with his fingers dipping just below the edge of your shorts. You let out a quiet noise against his lips as your chest comes to rest on his, your arm getting trapped beneath his shoulder and the cushion. His nails press softly into your skin at how pleased you sound, his arms erupting in goosebumps when you unintentionally tug at his hair.Â
Youâve been letting out quiet gasps between every kiss he plants on your mouth, your lungs stinging in your chest, yet reluctant to pull away. Itâs only when you feel the tip of his tongue nudge against your bottom lip that you pull back, resting your forehead on his and panting to catch your breath.Â
âToo much?â He mumbles, sliding his hands over your skin.Â
âNot at all,â you breathe, swallowing hard and letting out a soft laugh. âI just couldnât breathe.âÂ
Eddie smiles, tilting his chin forward to press his lips to the corner of your mouth. You lift your head and your eyes instantly fall to his lips, now slightly swollen and a darker shade of pink.Â
Itâs hard for you to think straight, to wrap your head around the fact that you just had your first kiss, and second, and third, and fourth⌠all with Eddie who is looking at you now like you hung the moon just for him.Â
As much as your insecurity is wanting to take you away from this moment, you know that he isnât that good of a liar, and if he really didnât want you like this in at least some capacity, youâd be able to see it in his eyes. But all you can see is the sweet, loving gaze of your best friend as he lets you settle, no matter that all he can think about now is kissing you stupid for the rest of the night.Â
Youâve gotten further than you ever thought youâd get and you mindlessly pull the tangles in his hair apart, wetting your lips and taking a deep breath. âI like you, Eds. A lot.âÂ
You figured he might make a teasing comment at your admission, but he just smirks and lets his eyes fall closed as you play with his hair. âI like you too, sweetheart. Have for way too long.âÂ
You sink your teeth into your bottom lip and slide your hands from his hair to drag down his chest, his stomach twitching beneath your innocent touch.Â
âDo you want to keep watching your movie?â He asks, glancing at you and you shake your head. âYou sure?âÂ
You think this is the happiest youâve ever been, and Eddie feels the same- just happy that he could be the one to make you feel truly wanted for the first time. He wishes you wouldâve confided in him about your lack of romance earlier in your friendship so you wouldnât have missed out on so many years silently pining for one another. But he thinks this will do just fine.
âI want to keep doing this,â you quietly admit and he lets out a soft groan as he brings his hands up to his face.Â
âYouâre gonna be the death of meâŚâ He drops his hands to his sides. âWanna get comfy in my room then?â
He chuckles at your eager nod, patting your thighs and moving to sit up. âHop up then, baby. We can clean up later.âÂ
You get up and he follows suit, grabbing your hand and interlacing your fingers to drag you down the hallway with an urgency that makes you laugh the entire way into his bedroom.

Hi I sent in a request for prompts 43 and 25 for angst but forgot to and that I wanted it to be Eddie Munson x reader and Iâm so sorry
"Iâm not coming home, donât look for me.â
âdonât make me chooseâ âwhy? Because youâd pick her?â
I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting đŤśđť
â ď¸angst ( since I've been told my angst needs warnings ;)
Pick me, choose me, love me
Eddie and Y/N had been best friends since first grade. They grew up together and did everything together. Everyone in their life thought by the time they graduated they would have figured out they were in love with each other.
But that didn't happen. They were still best friends, oblivious to how they felt for one another. They lived in a small apartment, both needing a life outside the trailer park.
Y/N went to school, and worked at a bar for extra cash. Eddie worked with Wayne and spent his extra cash at said bar. He always kept her company while she worked, and kept an eye on how men were around her. He wouldn't dare let anyone touch her.
She was a little more aware than he was. She couldn't deny that Eddie grew into a very handsome man, with a sexy charm. His smile and sly winks could win over any girl, including her. She never believed Eddie saw her as anything more than a friend, so she kept her feelings to herself. No way was she going to lose Eddie.
But that meant she had to suffer when he flirted with girls during her shift. Ignore the pain in her heart when they snuck off to the bathrooms. Or the night he brought a girl home, as she turned up the living room TV when his door slammed.
He seemed to be good in bed, from the countless girls she was forced to listen to. She tried to ignore how jealous she was, hating the way girls left in the morning satisfied and bruised.
She thought the random hookups were bad, but it was so much worse when he got a girlfriend. Her name was Kathy, and she was a bitch. Not that Eddie noticed, he worshipped the ground she walked on. Kathy and Y/N never got along, but girls knowing they both wanted the same thing from Eddie. Kathy was smug since she was the winner.
Tensions got high when Y/N told Eddie she saw Kathy going into the bathroom with a guy during her shift. A huge fight broke out and Eddie left for a few days. Kathy said Y/N made it all up and Eddie fell for it. Even though Y/N wanted to kick him out, she called a truce. Both agree to leave it in the past.
Trouble didn't stop there, it seemed Kathy brought in new drama weekly. But Y/N tried her best to keep her friendship with Eddie alive. Even when he made it so damn hard.
~~~
"Alright, everything is set up. Don't you forget to show up!" Steve said, pointing a stern finger at Eddie.
Eddie rolled his eyes, "you think I'm going to skip out on my best friend's birthday?"
"I'm just saying." Steve said as he held his arms up.
Y/N was turning twenty two and Steve planned a huge surprise party for her. All their friends would be there, her family, and most importantly Eddie.
Steve was a good friend of Y/N's. And he could easily tell she was in love with the metal head. He knew Kathy was bad news but Eddie was never one to listen.
~
Y/N jumped as she opened the door, Steve sent her an address to meet him at for a birthday dinner. She wore her best dress, a little short and a perfect amount of tightness. Her hair was styled and she wore her best make-up. She was in awe as she took in the huge crowd of people.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!" Steve screamed, along with everyone. But he was front and center, arms open as she raced into them. She crushed him in a bear hug and he spun her around.
He had to stop himself from sticking his nose in her neck. While Y/N pinned after Eddie, Steve pinned after her. But he knew her heart was with Eddie and he respected that. Still, his heart raced in the dress she wore.
"You look gorgeous," he whispered in her ear. She tried to push back tears, feeling so loved.
"Thank you for this!" She squealed. She took her time walking around the party, hugging everyone. She made sure to talk to every person for a good amount of time before moving on.
But as more time passed, she couldn't ignore that Eddie was nowhere to be found.
She hadn't seen him all day, and it broke her heart. She spent every birthday with him since she met him, and he was nowhere to be seen the whole day. But she tried to focus on the people who did show up.
After a few drinks, she let Eddie go, fully enjoying her party.
~
It was 11pm and Eddie still wasn't home. Her party ended about two hours ago, she played with her empty beer bottle at the counter as she waited for Eddie to walk in.
She perked up when she heard the door unlock and Eddie walked in.
"Hey," he said
"Hi," she said, her sadness was clear in her voice. Eddie sighed as he heard it.
"Look, sweetheart, I'm sorry." He whispered as he walked towards the table. His puppy eyes looked at her nervously.
"Just answer one question," she sighed. Eddie gulped when she looked up at him, her tear-stained face and red eyes told him she had been crying for a while. "Were you with Kathy?"
"Yes," Eddie said honestly
Y/N scoffed and stood up. She shook her head as she pushed in her stool.
"Y/N-"
"Eddie, don't," she snapped, Eddie stepped back. He never heard her sound so angry towards him. "Just stop"
Eddie watched as more tears fell down her face.
"Don't shut me out. Talk to me." Eddie pleaded. She sniffled as she looked up at his sorry face. His puppy eyes and the pout on his lips. But she couldn't push aside how she felt just because he looked like he got kicked.
"I don't want to talk to you," she said. She glared at him as she went to walk past him. But his arm shot out and stopped her.
"Well too bad because I want to talk to you," Eddie snapped. His temper was always short. "Look, I know I fucked up but let me apologize so we can move on."
Y/N yanked her arm away from him. Angirly standing face to face with him. Her fired eyes burned into his, challenging him.
"My best friend ditched me on my fucking birthday for some girl, and you think a shitty apology is going to fix that?"
"Girlfriend" Eddie corrected
Y/N let out a laugh, with no humor behind it. "I don't care what she is. You ditched me, you ignored me, and my heart shattered when I realized you weren't there and you wouldn't show up."
"I planned to be there, and I wanted to be. But Kathy needed-"
"I NEEDED YOU!" Y/N screamed. Eddie backed up as he clenched his jaw. "I bet she made up some fake lie to keep you occupied. She plays a game and you keep allowing yourself to be the pawn."
Eddie growled as she spoke. "I'm not a pawn and It's not a game. You don't know what she is going through."
"NOTHING!" she screamed again. "NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HER. SHE JUST WANTED TO KEEP YOU AWAY FROM ME"
This time Eddie laughed, scoffing as he angrily rubbed his chin.
"Get over yourself," he muttered
"Excuse me?" Y/N replied
"I said get over yourself. You're not a threat to her. She already told me about this little more than friend love you have for me. For your sake, I'll continue to act like I don't know. But you need to start respecting my fucking relationship." He demanded, his voice low and deep. He was pissed.
Y/N felt the color drain from her face. She gulped as she stared at him. He knew?
"How long?" Y/N whispered, her head down as she clenched her eyes in embarrassment. He knew and he never said a thing. He didn't like her back.
"What?" Eddie asked
"How long did you know?" she said through clenched teeth, looking up at him in the eye.
"Three months" Eddie whispered, feeling a twig of guilt as Y/N looked betrayed. He wasn't sure what heartbreak looked like but he swore he saw it on her face.
"What if I don't?" Y/N challenged, and she crossed her arms. Her eyes back to being heated as she stiffened out her jaw. "What if I don't want to respect your fucking relationship?"
This caused Eddie to back down
"You have to," He pleaded, "I want both of you in my life."
She ignored how the hurt puppy look came back. She was done allowing him to hurt her. He knew how she felt and never said a thing. He betrayed her and threw it at her in her weakest moment.
"I don't think that's possible" Y/N admitted
"No no," Eddie panicked, "It is. You've always been here, you have to be here." His voice cracked as he started drowning in his fear.
"You're right, I've always been here. But have you?" Her eyes watered as she felt more tears building. Eddie tried to close his eyes to avoid those eyes but it was all he could see. "I'm sorry, Eddie but I can't put myself through that. The decision is yours."
"Please don't make me have to choose." Eddie cried, his bottom lip trembling. He reached forward, desperately holding her face as he cried. "Please"
"Why? Because you'll pick her?" Y/N whimpered, she could see the answer in his eyes. He picked her a thousand times before, of course, he'd pick her now.
"I-I---I" Eddie stuttered. Almost like he didn't want to say it out loud. He didn't want to admit it.
Y/N bit her lip to try to hold back another sob. She grabbed his hands, pulled them off of her face, and dropped them at his sides. Eddie began to mumble no over and over, knowing what it meant. But she ignored his pleas and cries, just like he did hers.
She quietly moved passed him and walked out.
~
She made it to Steve's doorstep in seconds. Crashing into his arms as she sobbed. As Steve always did, he picked up her broken pieces.
After she calmed down, Steve moved her to his bedroom. He was downstairs, lying on the couch. The room was dark and silent, leaving Y/N stuck in her head.
"Darling?"
She jumped as Steve's voice came from behind her. She turned around and silently asked what he needed.
He didn't say anything as he passed the phone over.
Y/N sighed and took the phone. She already knew who it was. Without waiting for him to speak, she said "Iâm not coming home, donât wait for me.â And ended the call.
Steve reached forward and softly rubbed her shoulder for comfort. He pressed a small kiss to her forehead and pulled away. He started to walk out of the room, but right before he was gone she called out to him.
"Can I ask for a favor?" she asked, her voice dry and cracked from all the crying she did.
"Anything for you," Steve said, his voice so soft and silky. She could see so much emotion in his eyes. And she knew he meant his words.
"Can you hold me?"
Steve didn't waste a single breath as he walked over to the bed. He got in bed without another word, and Y/N turned around. Her back to his chest as he scooped her in his arms. He was cautious at first, not wanting to make her uncomfortable.
But she backed further into him, no space left as their skin touched. He tightened his arms and she sighed in pleasure.
"Thank you" she whispered, feeling the need to sleep taking over her body. The touch of Steve instantly calmed her.
He smiled and placed his chin on her head. He closed his eyes and prayed he'd remember this feeling for the rest of his life.
Y/N silently cried as she stared ahead.
Where was she supposed to go when Eddie was the only home she ever had?
"I took one look at you
And it was plain to see
You were my destiny
With you I'll spend my time
I'll dedicate my life
I'll sacrifice for you
Dedicate my life for you"
Method Man & Mary J. Bligeâ"You're All I Need"
Terry Richmond couldn't stop looking at the eight by eleven color photo he received in the mail.
Terrina Richmond.
He had a daughter. A two-month-old baby girl.
His mind raced with so many chaotic thoughts. He'd had an affair with a married woman and she left him to salvage her wreck of a marriage in South Carolina. Terry spent months trying to forget her, poured himself into his work, and blotted out the memory of Nova Patterson.
The last time they made love, he nearly broke the bed, pulling out his best erotic moves to keep her. By his calculations, that was when he impregnated her. They loved each other, but ultimately, he had to let her go. She belonged to someone else and already had an infant son. Who was he to prevent a reconciliation of a family?
He worked day and night, taking on extra hours, even requested deployment overseas to get away from Nova haunting him with her beauty, kindness, and intelligence. He wished the world for her, but couldn't bear to be in the states knowing he couldn't have her.
The big bosses denied his request. They wanted his skills building up their elite soldiers in Oceanside. Make more war machines. Oorah.
Terry booked a flight to Charleston the moment he hung up the phone with Nova. An hour later he still sat on his couch wondering who to confess his shocking news to. His first inclination was to reach out to his family, but he wasn't ready to explain the circumstances of fathering a child with a married woman to his parents just yet. His closest friends Von and Bethany were next in line, but he could already hear Bethany chewing him out for being no different than Jordan, with Von nodding his head in agreement. Telling his homegirl Angie would only result in a flying fist socking him in the jaw.
He had accrued ninety days of leave time that he planned on using up for Nova and Terrina. His godson Junior, too. He stroked his chin. Junior would become his stepson now. A bonus child. Nova gave him purpose. He had a family to care for.
Terry cancelled his flight.
Nova would have a ton of things to bring back with the children. He would drive there instead of flying and rent a U-Haul cargo trailer in Charleston. Nova could take what she wanted and he would buy anything else she needed once they returned to Oceanside. He glanced around his condo. They could stay in his place until the lease ended the following summer and then look for a new home big enough for the four of them.
Four.
How strange. He woke up that morning a single man living a solitary life. Now he was responsible for three other people. He wanted to marry Nova as soon as possible, that way he could get them on his health insurance. Terry grinned. He moved like a man with a plan.
Packing more clothes for an extended trip, the reality sank in further. He was a father. He stopped to look at his daughter again. She had his ears. Funny how he hadn't noticed it before. Terrina's eyes struck him first, but then all the other little details jumped out. She was his mama's color. Terry got his eyes from his maternal grandmamma and his ears from his paternal grandpa. Terrina repped both sides of his family like him. He sat down on his bed and rocked his body, staring at her picture like it was going to disappear if he stopped looking at her.
That was his baby girl.
Nova carried her while enduring the stress of an unraveling marriage. His woman needed peace and a home fit for a queen. He was determined to give it to her. Texting his parents, he sent them a quick message that he had to postpone coming to Louisiana because of work.
He stopped by his local coffee shop and loaded up on an egg white breakfast sandwich and coffee. Hitting the road by noon, he headed east after texting Nova that he was driving and would arrive in Charleston within two days. She sent him another picture of Terrina and Junior. He smiled so hard in his truck after taking a restroom break. Junior was nearly two years old, and it shocked Terry that he didn't look like Jordan anymore. The boy had Nova's face dipped in milk chocolate. He noticed that she'd typed the names Terrina and Novan. He typed the name Novan with a question mark. A minute later, she sent a message that she legally changed her son's name to hers. His nickname was Van-Van. Yeah, she was really done with Jordan if she yanked his son's name away from him. That shit was tough.
"My baby girl will never have that problem," he muttered, heading onto the freeway again.
Terry drove non-stop, only taking breaks when the truck needed gas. He loaded up with a bunch of Big Macs from McDonald's in Dallas, and his heart started beating wildly. Sitting in the parking lot, he inhaled deeply several times and listened to one of his meditation apps. On the verge of a panic attack unless he spoke to someone about his sudden anxiety at meeting his daughter, he called Bethany and confessed everything.
"I'm sitting here freaking out, Bethany. I just want to get to South Carolina and see NovaâŚhold my baby, but right now I'm losing it. Cuss me out, yell at me, I don't careâŚI just needed to talk to someone I trusted who knows meâŚknows I wouldn't do anything to hurt anyone on purpose. Not even Jordan."
Bethany gave a long sigh. He waited for a shrill tone to rip his ear apart.
"Terry, I have to be honest with you. Nova called and told me everything a month ago."
"She what? A month ago?"
"Don't be upset. She was scared and didn't have anyone supporting her. Her family flipped outâŚJordan's family flipped. Jordan is on a downward spiral. It's a shitshow out thereâŚbut I promised her I wouldn't say anything until she was ready to face you. Go easy on her, okay?"
"I'm glad she has you," he finally said after a long pause.
"You should be glad to have me, too. I should kick your butt, though."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything about herâŚand me."
"Didn't have to. I already knew something was up. I just hoped you two would've ended it quietly without all this blowback. You make a pretty baby, though. She looks just like you and your mom."
"I'm nervous BethanyâŚa little scared. I'm thrilled to have TerrinaâŚit's justâŚI'm halfway across the country ready to uproot Nova from her hometown. Am I doing the right thing for her and the baby? I meanâŚshe has JuniorâŚVan-Van. Can I take him away from his father like this?"
"She reached out and wants you to come for her. That's all you need to concern yourself with. I'll let her tell you herself what's been going on, but that is your family now. Jordan should be an afterthought in your mind."
"I want to marry her."
"Get her out of Charleston first. Text me when you get there."
"Does Von know?"
"No. This is something he needs to hear from you when you get back."
"Thank you for being thereâŚfor the both of us."
"You have a darling little two-month-old who needs her daddy. Drive safe, Terry. Love you."
Terry sat in the truck, feeling better. Bethany didn't hate him. He texted Nova despite the late hour in her time-zone.
He started the truck and drove closer to his love.
Terry sat in a parking lot of a Target store in a town just outside of Charleston on Sunday morning. He wanted to buy gifts for Nova and the baby, but the store didn't open until seven. The weather was already hot, and he rolled the windows down to wait three hours. He contemplated waiting at a Jack in the Box parking lot, but there were two cop cars there and the last thing he wanted was to attract the attention of the police outside of a fast-food joint at four in the morning.
He spent time on his smartphone looking up all the things he had to do legally to establish paternity. DNA test. Filing the results with the court. It would probably be a hassle to take Jordan's name off the birth certificate, but Terry would spend whatever money it took to pay all court fees to do so. He'd need to get a lawyer in Charleston to navigate everything.
The store opened, and he grabbed a cart, rolling it to the children's section. There was no sales associate around to ask about sizes, so he looked at infant clothing that claimed to fit newborns up to two months. He bought a fancy box of chocolate for Nova's grandmother who she stayed with after leaving her brother's home. Flowers for Nova. Baby balloons. A clunky-looking Captain America action figure for Van-Van. It took him a minute to find the Black one. Sam Wilson. It was going to be all Black everything in their household. Terry paused in the toy section. He imagined his life being like Von and Bethany's, raising two children and being happy. Von always went home to a happy wife and happy children. Sending up a prayer to God, he wanted to provide the same life for Nova and his new family.
He paid for everything at check-out and rolled his cart out to the truck. Bethany was right about Target. You can't ever go inside and come out with the one thing you went in for. He spent over two hundred dollars on all kinds of toys for his daughter and bonus son.
Terry smelled like long hours on the road and stopped at a cafĂŠ to purchase a blueberry muffin that gave him access to the restroom. He washed up, brushed his teeth, and changed into fresh clothes he carried in a backpack. By the time he hit the road again, he was ready to face his future. Following the directions on his GPS, he admired the old buildings and the slow pace of Charleston's southern charm. That went out the window when a palmetto bug flew into the truck. A goddamn flying roach. Hell nah!
He rolled up his windows and put on the air conditioner. The directions showed that he still had an hour to reach Edisto Island. He leaned into the steering wheel once he started crossing the McKinley-Washington Bridge that led to Nova. The Dawhoo River below him looked like mysterious black water. The tannins seeping out of decaying trees turned the water a dark tea-color. Nova once explained that the word "Edisto" meant "black" and was also the name of the indigenous people who lived there, including her Gullah kin, from way back.
His heart palpitated, and he started breathing faster when he reached the street where Mrs. Mariam Walker, the matriarch of Nova's family lived. He smelled the heavy scent of the sea and the river. The house was only a few blocks away from Edisto Beach. Everything around him had been built by Gullah hands. Homes. The bridge. Docks. Churches. Everything.
He passed Mrs. Walker's house because there was no parking available on both sides of the street. Making a U-Turn, he found a spot where a driver left in a brown van. He glanced over at the large white house with the double stairs leading to another stairway that led up to a semi-wrap-around porch. Several older Black men and a couple of men Terry's age stood on the porch looking his way. They built the old house high to avoid flooding, and it seemed like it should've been on a heritage museum tour. He typed into his phone.
I'M HERE.
He put on a stoic expression to face Nova's male relatives. They probably weren't thrilled to see him approaching the house.
The front door flew open and Nova dashed out. She ran down the top stairs first and waited on the landing, her eyes searching the street. When she fixed her gaze on him, she covered her mouth and jumped up twice before running down the left set of stairs, hurtling forward like a comet to greet him. He moved so fast people could've sworn he had wings on his feet like Mercury.
"Terry!" she cried out.
A bunch of women exited the house to watch them.
The moment Nova reached him, he lifted her up high. She hugged his neck so tight that she almost cut off his circulation. He set her down, and they held each other. Embracing her was like having a missing puzzle piece slipped back into its proper place. It was hard to look at her without the tears in his eyes making it difficult to see. She trembled in his arms and every hitched breath she took tore at his heart. He had been a fool to let her go. Sparing another man's feelings in a wasted act of nobility cost him time with the woman he loved and a daughter he hadn't met yet. Lying to Jordan about not sleeping with Nova had been the wrong choice to make eleven months ago. He should've come clean and faced the music back then. It cost him his own happiness. Cost him sharing the journey of Terrina's birth.
He touched and smelled Nova's fragrant hair. She still carried the scent of sugar cookies and strawberries on her skin. Her cornflower blue wrap dress sat snug around her figure. Having babies just made her look enchanting to him.
"Told youâŚtold you I would come the moment you needed me," he said.
She nodded, and they pressed their foreheads together.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you, too."
She burst into tears. He rocked her in his arms, saying her name over and over.
"Are the babies inside?" he asked.
"Van-Van is with Jordan for the weekend. Terrina is inside with my mother and grandmother."
Nova wiped her wet face and puffy eyes.
"Ready to meet your daughter?"
He laughed out loud, and then bit down on his tongue gently to keep himself from leaking more water out of his eyes. He wiped his face and glanced at the welcoming committee on the porch.
"Mawmaw cooked a big Sunday breakfast and invited the family over to see you," she said.
"See me, or beat my ass?" he joked.
Nova's eyes welled up. He stroked her arms.
"Baby, I'm sorry. Bethany told me you're having it rough here. I gotta take that weight off of you. I'm the one who got you pregnantâŚI'm the one who'll fix all of this, too."
He kissed her forehead. She kept her cute pixie cut and fixed her baby hairs to look like curling ocean waves. He rubbed her back. She rested her head on his chest, unable to look at him.
"TerryâŚI didn't know she was yours. Jordan and I got back together, and I tried to put you away in my heart. He started messing up out hereâŚI left himâŚbut I still thought she was his. I wasn't hiding her from youâŚI wasn't trying to keep her a secret from Jordan, either. I didn't realize until after she was born that she wasn't his. I was so frightened of what would happen to me and her when everyone found out what I did. People in my family called me a whoreâŚand JordanâŚ"
She wept. He soothed her as best as he could.
"Just think about usâŚokay? Hold on to us and I promise, NovaâŚthings are going to get better."
"Okay."
She wiped her nose and inhaled deeply to calm herself down. He clasped her hand in his, and she walked him up the steps. Her family members held paper plates of food and hushed their talking as Terry looked at them.
"Everyone, this is TerryâŚTerry Richmond. Terrina's father."
"We can see dat. Can't miss his chirren at all."
The other relatives tittered under their breath. An older woman in her eighties pushed a walker and Nova's family parted to give her room so her eyes could track Terry up and down. She had slightly wrinkled, dark pecan-brown skin and gray hair clipped short. Mariam WalkerâŚMawmaw.
"I see una have no shame coming here after putting a baby in her the wrong way."
"Mawmaw," Nova whispered.
"Ma'am, I'm not here to upset you. I want to meet my daughter and be with Nova."
"Be with Nova?"
Mawmaw sucked her teeth and pointed at Nova with an accusatory finger.
"Look ya. Dat is a married 'ooman. You a comeya, messing up the peace of dis family."
"Ma'am, I don't mean any disrespectâ"
"Tie yuh mout!" Mawmaw shrieked.
A female relative stepped forward.
"Okay now, MawmawâŚmy Lord, let the man get inside the house first before y'all put all they business in the street. Hi Terry, I'm CorneliaâŚNova's aunt. People call me Nella. Come inside. Mawmaw is going to fuss no matter what you say."
Nella walked toward the screen and opened it for Terry. She was forty-ish, heavyset, and a shade darker than Nova, but had the same sparkling brown eyes.
"I have some things in the truck to bring in," Terry said.
"Go get 'em, then," Nella said with a warm smile.
Terry walked back down to the truck with Nova. He collected the flowers and gave them to her. Her face brightened up with the full, colorful bouquet in her hands. He grabbed the balloons, Terrina's bag of baby clothes, and chocolate, then headed back to the house with Nova by his side.
"This is for you, ma'amâŚMawmaw," he said.
Mawmaw looked at the big box of expensive Godiva chocolate shells, and her eyes widened; surprised that he was giving her something.
"He tryna butter her up," one of the older men snickered.
Nella waved for him to keep moving.
"Tote all that in here, Terry, c'mon now. Can't let these no-see-ums in the house."
Terry glanced at Nova.
"Mosquitos. The ones here will eat you up and you won't even see them," Nova said.
He grinned hard enough to show his gums.
"They've been eating me up since I got here."
Nova led him inside the quaint living room filled with old, cared-for furniture and several sizes of intricately woven tan baskets with dark brown geometric patterns woven in the detail that decorated the corners. The interior smelled of good southern cooking and something else, something that the west coast didn't quite have yet: the odor of history. His hometown in Louisiana had it. All the south and the east coast had it in abundance. Compared to the south, the west was still young and feeling its oats.
Old family pictures cluttered a mantle, and so many people were crammed inside that it made Terry feel like the Jolly Green Giant. He definitely was the tallest person there. His eyes were drawn to a large painting above the mantle of elongated ebony figures showcasing men, women, and children dressed in clothing from the 1930s with blue-black skin and featureless faces. The painting seemed to be the focal point of the room that gave it a cozy feel rooted in a proud lineage.
Three women Mawmaw's age sat on a couch wearing their good Sunday wigs. They scrutinized everything on him. Somewhere out back, the excited voices of children playing added a comforting noise.
Nova took the bag of clothes from him and set them on an empty chair.
"HelloâŚI'm Terry, pleased to see everyone," he said.
Mawmaw shuffled in with her walker and Nella helped her sit down on an old rocking chair.
"Dis him," Mawmaw said to the ladies on the couch.
Nova introduced him to everyone present. He became eager to make a good impression despite the hard stares and thin-lipped expressions from the elders. All he needed was a knife to cut the simmering animosity in the front room. A giant bible sat propped open on a bookstand next to Mawmaw's rocker. A huge brown lacquered cross hung next to a picture of a tawny Jesus on the wall behind her seat. Terry took in the context clues and understood quickly that he was in a serious religious household. That meant their situation would never be acceptable to MawMaw. The matriarch's frigid brown eyes stared him down like she was going to turn him into a pillar of salt.
A baby's cry interrupted the family showdown.
Mawmaw's eyes immediately softened, and she tried to stand up too fast, almost losing her balance.
"My great-grandbaby is calling for me," Mawmaw said, or at least that's what Terry made out.
The shrill cry shattered the peace again, and Terry felt a lump grow in his throat. He imprinted that sound to memory. That was his daughter. His first time hearing her.
Nella gently pushed Mawmaw back in her seat.
"Bring ha," Mawmaw said.
"MawmawâŚTerry needs to see his baby. He come three thousand miles. Man is probably tired and hungry rushing here. Let him have his time alone with Terrina," Nella said.
Nova placed her flowers on an end table near one of the older adult men sitting in the room and grabbed Terry's hand.
"ComeâŚshe's back here," Nova said.
Her eyes were shiny with pride and love.
They moved past family members who ogled his height and muscular build. His body looked big and battle ready from all of his military training. Moving through a short hallway, they skipped past two other bedrooms and made their way to the last one.
A.N: Hope you enjoyed the preview! Be ready for more on Christmas Eve! This one will be a little longer than Part 1, but I don't think y'all mind! the bond between us eddie munson x female reader
Summary: You go back to the town you had to leave to go to university, but the town wasn't the only thing you left behind, you go to the place you least want to be for a date and there you run into your ex-boyfriend Eddie Munson. ao3 link Words: 5,147 Warnings: bleeding, injury part one | part two (completed)
Looking from the outside, the Hideout bar in the small town of Hawkins was a place that had seen better days. The wooden facade, a sign hanging down from the weight of the snow, and the red paint peeling at the corners. Near the door, a dull yellow neon sign flickered âHideoutâ in a dull flash of light.
When you stepped inside, the nostalgic and somewhat sad atmosphere of this place immediately hit you in the face. The smell of tobacco permeated the place, combined with the slight creak of walking on the old wooden floors. A few bare lamps hanging from the ceiling provided a warm but insufficient light.
The long wooden bar counter behind the stools was blackened with time, the surface streaked with water rings left by glasses. On the walls hung a few faded rock posters and plaques of pool champions from a local tournament.
A few silent alcoholics were seated at tables in the corner, drinking their glasses down. With their worn coats and tired expressions on their faces, they seemed in no hurry to spend another winter evening here. A homeless man sat at the back table, slowly puffing on a cigarette and watching the snowflakes flutter outside the window. A few people gathered around the pool table, joking and waiting for the next game. A group of people were sprawled on stools, raising their cheap beers in the air, smiling at each other and chatting. Some of them turned to the stage, staring at the microphones placed next to the guitar amps as if waiting for the next performance.
You took a deep breath, sat down on one of the stools and looked at the clock on the wall behind the bartender who was wiping the glasses with a clean cloth. It was almost seven in the evening, less than ten minutes before the date was due to start.Â
You smiled and shook your head at the bartender who asked if you wanted something to drink. âI'm waiting for someone,â you replied shortly. You were feeling a little uneasy, being here of all places to meet made you feel uneasy. In fact, just being back in this town made you uneasy in itself.
You remembered the day you left this damn town to go to university. You had to leave not only this place, but the love of your life. Eddie.Â
Now you had graduated and you were back home. For the first few weeks you spent time at home with your family, you spent every evening with them, as if to make up for all the times you couldn't see your friends. You always felt like asking about Eddie, but you preferred to keep it inside. You thought that if you ever got the chance, you might mention his name in conversation, or that your friends would mention him.Â
They said he'd been dating a girl for a while, and I think you heard that after he broke up with her, he hadn't been around much. He never went to college, he was still living with his uncle in the trailer park, he was fixing cars and Steve said he was pretty good at it.
The first thing you asked was, âDoes he still play guitar?'' Robin was the one who answered that question.Â
âHe hasn't touched it since you left...''
This sentence was like a flame burning your throat, preventing you from swallowing. âWhat about his dreams? He was going to leave this damn town to make records, to become a famous guitarist like his dream...'' You couldn't put the thoughts that came to your mind into words. Because you knew the answer.
And deep down inside, you knew your friends blamed you for leaving Eddie when you left. But they were too nice to tell you that.
But what else could you do? You both knew a long-distance relationship wouldn't work.Â
Having to break up with Eddie was like a wound in the center of your chest that still wouldn't heal. It seemed like a simple âobligationâ to everyone else, but only you and Eddie knew how complicated it really was. Going to university was a dream, your dream... but it was also an inevitable path, shaped by your family's pressure. It seemed the only way out of this town, the only way to make a future for yourself. Eddie, on the other hand, had never felt like he belonged in the world outside Hawkins. He had grown up in the trailer park, learned about life with his uncle, and even his dreams had been shaped within the confines of this town. His dream was to become a famous guitarist, yes, maybe that was just a fantasy for him. A dream he knew he would never achieve.
He discussed it with you for hours. âYou're leaving me here,â he once said, his voice cracked, his eyes full of sadness mixed with anger. âI don't belong in your world and you don't belong in mine. You'll understand that better when you go to university.â At that moment you couldn't fight him with the words that were stuck in your throat. Because he was right. Eddie was living a very different life, one that could never coincide with your career goals. While you'd be in the campus libraries, full of books, he'd be fixing old cars in the grease-smelling workshops of Hawkins.
But what hurt the most was watching Eddie quietly give up on his dreams. âWe can find a way out together,â you said, almost pleadingly. But Eddie shook his head from side to side, averting his eyes as his hair fell over his face.Â
âMy place is here. Your place is... somewhere else. It would consume us both, you know that.â His sarcastic tone, always taking things for granted, was gone. It was replaced by the voice of a tired, accepting man.
Eddie said he couldn't imagine you every morning in another city, in another life. âHow can distance be enough when even Hawkins isn't enough?â he said, smiling bitterly.
You knew in your heart as you left him behind: The separation wasn't just a physical distance. When you left Eddie that night, you took a part of him with you forever. And Eddie had done the same.Â
So what were you doing at the Hideout now? Yes, you were waiting for your first date with a guy named Josh, but you wondered why it had to be here. When Josh suggested to meet there, you couldn't say no, because what were you going to explain to him, âMy ex-boyfriend used to play there all the time, and even though he doesn't play there anymore, I'm not over him, so that bar has a special meaning for me, I can't go thereâ? That would be the worst impression you could give on a first date.
You turned around slowly as you heard someone calling your name, that familiar voice bringing a familiar face with it. It was Gareth, Eddie's friend from the band and the matchmaker who made you two become a couple in the first place. Seeing him here made your heart race, you thought, if he's here maybe... maybe. The possibility that because he was here, Eddie might be around here somewhere made your stomach twist in knots.
You put a warm smile on your face and hugged Gareth, âWhat are you doing here? I thought you were out of town,â Gareth said as he hugged you back.
''Yeah, I've been back for a couple weeks now. I uhm, graduated,â you explained. Your eyes were scanning the bar quickly, the mere thought of Eddie being here made you want to throw up from anxiety.
âI'm glad to hear that,â Gareth said as he sat down on the stool next to you. âSo, what's up? Where are your friends, are you waiting for someone?''
You nodded as you took a sip of water. âActually, I have a date, I'm waiting for him,â you said, and it felt like you had been punched in the stomach, like it was a crime to say that. You thought Gareth would be angry about it, after all you had caused his friend to be miserable for months. But it had been years, hadn't it?
Gareth nodded his head as if to say he understood and smiled. âAlright, I'll be on stage in a bit, nice to see you again, hope you have a good time on your date.'' After patting you on the shoulder, he took the beer the bartender handed him and walked away from you.
Looking after Gareth, you took a deep breath and began tapping your fingers nervously on the surface of the table.Â
Just then, the cold air hit you in the face as the door opened and a man stepped into the bar, wearing a brown leather jacket and an expensive scarf that looked like it had been bought in a luxury store. His blond hair was styled like something out of a hairdresser's advertisement and his bright blue eyes looked arrogantly around him. It was him. Josh. Even before he said his name, you knew who he was.
When Josh noticed you, he walked over with a wide smile, as if he was the only one lighting up the room he was in... or so he thought. âHey, you're just in time, too!â he said, his voice filled with a squeaky cheerfulness.Â
âYeah,â you said, with a forced smile, âI've been here a few minutes.â
Josh made an almost implicit gesture for you to get up from the stool. âGreat, great. Let's move over there, the light's a little too bright here. I'll find you a better seat.â Before you could understand what he was saying, he placed his hand lightly on your back and guided you to a darker corner of the bar.
Josh gestured exaggeratedly to the waiter as he sat on the opposite stool. âTwo margaritas for us! But please... make sure you cut the lemons right. I had a very bad experience at a bar last time.â His tone was more like a lecture than an order. It was impossible not to notice the patient but obviously irritated expression on the waiter's face.
âWell, actually I don't want a margarita, a water will do for now,â you said, interrupting his arrogant order. Josh cocked his head to the side and looked at you as if you had said something strange.
âWater? God, you can't be serious,â he said with a mocking laugh. âRelax, we're not here to party, but we can make the first date count, right? Tell me, are you having any fun?â
For a moment lightning flashed in your head. You had already gotten annoyed with him from the very first sentence. How could he be so cocky? You crossed your arms on the table and stared at him, inwardly looking for ways to escape.
âYeah, I don't usually have to drink to have fun,â you said, a little teasingly. Josh took it as a joke and tried to laugh, but even his laugh was insincere.
âOh, okay. I think you're serious. You know, people usually find me extremely funny. I mean, not just because of my looks,â he said, smoothing his hair with his hand. âI guess you've noticed that too.â
âSure, I noticed,â you mumbled, but your eyes were searching for Gareth and the others without realizing it. You felt like you were going crazy if you spent any more time with this man.
As he talked, it was like a part of your soul was dying, you could have been on the most boring date in the world.
âI mean,â Josh continued, twisting the lemon wedge in his hand, âHawkins is a small town, isn't it? I hate being here. Imagine, people are born and raised here and never get out. I think you were born and raised here too, weren't you?â
With that sentence, his discomfort grew. Eddie's face involuntarily flashed before your eyes. You knew that Eddie had always felt inadequate because of people like Josh. Instead of answering him, you kept silent, because if you opened your mouth, the anger you were trying to hide behind your words would show.
Just then Gareth's voice was heard on stage. âOkay everyone, tonight we're going to get a little nostalgic! We're going to play one of the âCorroded Coffinâ songs. You used to be with us every Tuesday at Hawkins. Maybe some of you will remember our songs and sing along, who knows?â
Gareth's voice pulled you back to the real world. In the dim lights of the bar, you suddenly stopped breathing. Your heart's beating like crazy. If Gareth was on stage... Eddie.
Gareth gripped the sticks of his drum kit and sat on the drum seat, you knew the other members of the band, you had spent enough time with each of them. Eddie and the others used to go on that stage when you were still here and with him. You always watched them from the front. You listened to Eddie playing his guitar, looking into your eyes, as if you were the only one there.
But now Eddie wasn't on stage... And it felt like something was missing. Like something was wrong, like the last piece of the puzzle was missing.
Josh continued to talk about himself, as he had for the last hour. You were staring at the stage, listening to the songs you once knew by heart being played again, remembering the lyrics with each note. You remembered how each note made you feel. The whole thing was passing before your eyes like a movie, and when your song started playing, you felt your eyes fill with tears. Everything seemed blurry, everything seemed to feel sorry for you.
You stood up, grabbing your bag. ''I'm sorry Josh... I almost forgot something I had to do... Uhm, I have to go...'' you said.
Josh didn't seem convinced. âOh, yeah? I can give you a ride... I've got a car outside the door.â he offered.Â
You shook your head quickly. âNo need, I'll go,â you insisted.
âIt's cold and the snow is falling faster. I'll give you a ride,â he said as he put a few dollars and a tip on the table and stood up.
âNo,â you said shortly.
âDo you really have to go?â he said, this time in a slightly sarcastic tone. âI mean, I put a lot of work into planning tonight, and you could at least be a little... I don't know, grateful for that, right?â
Josh's words froze you in place. Your eyes quickly turned to him. âGrateful? What are you talking about?â you said, your brow furrowed, your tone sharp.
âI mean, after all, I spent my time and energy to get here,â Josh said, spreading his arms wide, putting his arm behind your back and leaning in close enough to press you into your chair. âYou need to spend more time with me here. After all, don't you want to get to know me? Or... maybe you're being too coy.â
You were startled when his arm came close enough to pinch you. âPull your arm away!â you said sternly, but Josh just grinned.
âOh, come on, don't be so scared. I'm not a bad guy. I brought you here because I thought we could have a nice evening,â he continued. This time his voice was more sarcastic and disturbing.Â
âLet me go,â you said again, this time sounding more nervous. But Josh took these words as an invitation instead of a threat.
âLet me go? Oh, I see...â he said, leaning closer to your face and gazing into your eyes. âYou actually like it, don't you? This little 'coy' game. Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm good at figuring out girls.â
Just then, as your whole body froze, a voice from behind you made you hold your breath.
âYou're also good at blowing your chances, apparently.â
Someone tapped Josh hard on the shoulder. Josh's expression changed. Frowning, he turned around to meet Eddie's stern gaze. The anger on Eddie's face made it feel icy even inside the bar.
âWho the hell are you?â Josh asked, giving Eddie a condescending look. But Eddie's smile held no warmth; it was more like an approaching storm.
âI'm not an asshole like you, that's for sure,â Eddie said, his voice deep and menacing. Then he turned to you, a soft but worried look in his eyes. âDid he touch you?â
Josh interjected, his voice loud and confident enough to drown out Eddie's question. âThis isn't about you, man, leave us alone.â
Instead of answering, Eddie suddenly grabbed Josh by the collar. He easily lifted him off the floor and shoved him hard into one of the bar's tables. The chair tipped over as Josh fell to the floor, several people standing around you recoiled in horror. Eddie leaned over Josh and whispered in a cold voice.
âYou will not bother her again. In fact, you will never set foot in this bar again. Do you understand?â
But Josh didn't seem like the type to give up that easily. He put his hand on Eddie's collar and stood up quickly. âYou think you're gonna scare me? Get out of the way, you fucking bastard!â he shouted, and then he punched Eddie hard. As the punch connected with Eddie's jaw, the loud thud inside the bar momentarily froze the whole place. A thin trickle of blood trickled down Eddie's lip as he took a few steps back.
But instead of pausing, Eddie became even more enraged by the impact. The rage in his eyes was now uncontrollable. He quickly wiped his cheek and took a step toward Josh.
âI warned you,â Eddie said. There was such determination in his voice that you could see Josh was scared.
Eddie moved quickly and punched Josh hard in the stomach, then, without missing a beat, struck him a second time. This time his fist connected with Josh's jaw and he staggered back to the ground. But Eddie didn't stop. He pounced on him, grabbed him by the collar and delivered another blow to his face. âYou're learning the price of bothering a woman,â Eddie said, his voice growing more determined with each blow.
Josh tried to stop Eddie with his hands, but Eddie was giving him no chance. Within seconds, Josh's face was covered in blood. Those inside the bar looked on, horrified by the fight, while Gareth got up from the stage and prepared to try and pull them apart.
Eddie took one last look at Josh's face and pushed him hard to the floor. âIf you ever cross me again, I'll make you regret it,â he said.
Josh staggered to his feet. His shirt was soiled, his face bloodied and his pride shattered. âYou'll pay for this,â he mumbled, but his voice couldn't hide his fear. He walked quickly to the door and left the bar.
Eddie took a deep breath and sat up. Blood was still seeping from his lip, but he didn't seem to care. When he turned to you, the anger was gone from his gaze, replaced by a familiar warmth.
âAre you okay?â he asked.
You nodded and put your hand over your heart. A few minutes later the waiters were picking up the fallen stools and the chaos inside the bar had slowly subsided. People were back in their seats, chatting, and a few people were still discussing what had happened in whispers.Â
You turned to Eddie and took a deep breath. The adrenaline was giving way to shame, especially as you felt the stares around you. âEveryone's staring at us,â you muttered, your eyes drifting to the floor.
Eddie shrugged, as if he didn't really care. âLet them look,â he said, smiling slightly. But even the small grin on his face disappeared instantly because of the cut on his lip and he groaned slightly.
Just then Gareth came up to you with an ice pack. There was a slight look of concern on his face as he handed it to you. âHere. That should help a little,â he said. He paused for a moment, turning to Eddie. âI have to get back to the stage, but are you... are you all right?â
Eddie nodded his head as if thanking Gareth and gave a slight smile. âI'm fine. Don't worry.â
Gareth looked at Eddie for a few more seconds, then glanced in your direction, patted him on the shoulder and returned to the stage. Guitars and drums echoed through the bar as the band regrouped and prepared to play. But no longer could they drown out the pounding of your heart.
You gently took the ice pack gently and pressed it to Eddie's bleeding lip. Eddie flinched involuntarily and tried to pull back, but you didn't let go. âStop,â you said softly. âAt least let me take care of this while you put up a big fight for me.â
Eddie's gaze stopped on you, the anger long gone from his eyes. A strange embarrassment had taken its place, but he said nothing. As you cleaned the blood from his lip in silence, you finally couldn't resist and tried to speak. âI didn't know you were here. If I had known...â
Eddie interrupted, trying to avert his eyes from you, but finally he looked at you and took a deep breath. âWouldn't you have come if you'd known?â he said, his voice more calm and vulnerable than you expected.
You parted your lips to answer, but Eddie kept talking. âI know... I heard you were back in town but I didn't dare to see you. I didn't know what to say, but... I still wanted to see you, so... I watched from a distance.â
Surprised, you put down the ice pack and looked at him. âYou watched from a distance?â
Eddie tilted his head, a faint smile playing on his lips. âI don't want to sound like a stalker,â he said, shrugging his shoulders. âBut yeah. Ever since I found out you were here... I guess I've been following you like a shadow, watching you from a distance, not bothering you. I don't know, maybe I didn't have the courage to see you again. Maybe I thought that if you saw me here... you would run away.â
You felt your heart squeeze at this confession. Eddie's voice was so honest and vulnerable that it was hard to look him in the eye.Â
You pressed the ice pack to Eddie's lip again and leaned a little closer to him. âEddie...â you whispered. âWhy didn't you say anything? Why didn't you come to me? You could have talked to me. I wouldn't have run away.â
Eddie looked you in the eye, but this time he didn't run away. âI don't know. Maybe I didn't think I deserved it. I didn't have anything right to say to you. But... seeing you was enough. Seeing you happy... Anyway, you were telling that idiot that you had to leave... Can I drop you where you're going? I don't want him to get in your way.ââ
''Uhm... I made up a lie to get rid of him. But I'd better get back home... It's been a long night.''
The moonlight glinted off the thin layer of snow that had just fallen, and it looked as if the ground was covered in a silver blanket. Eddie was walking a few steps ahead of you, his hands in his pockets as usual, but his shoulders were much broader than they had been. This difference caused your eyes to involuntarily drift to his back and silhouette. You immediately averted your eyes, but you couldn't control where your thoughts were going.Â
Eddie suddenly stopped and turned his head to look at you. âAre you still cold?â he asked, his voice soft yet protective.
You tried to smile at him, but your lips felt numb from the cold. âNo, I'm fine,â you said, but you didn't sound convincing.
Eddie shook his head from side to side, as if expecting this answer. âLet me put this jacket to good use,â he said, and in one motion he took off his leather jacket. You couldn't help but notice the moment when his arm muscles peeled away from his jacket. This whole car mechanic thing... it had definitely worked for him.
When he handed you the jacket, you tried to protest. âBut I thought you'd be cold too...â
âStop arguing with me,â he interrupted, smiling slightly. He gently placed the jacket on your shoulders and straightened the collar. âDo I look like I'm cold?â
He was right. It was impossible not to notice the muscles under his thin black shirt. His shoulders looked wider, his arms thicker and his back stronger. The boy who years ago had played songs on the bar stage with his guitar was now a different man. There was something about Eddie; maybe the years, maybe the hardships he had endured had made him more attractive. But one thing was certain: This man was too good looking for any girl in town to refuse.Â
âThank you,â you whispered, inhaling the faint smell of leather and cigarettes in the jacket. Eddie's scent... it filled you with something familiar and nostalgic.
Eddie shrugged, but there was a look on his face that said he was studying you. âIf you hadn't gone on dates with idiots like that, you'd be sitting in your warm house and you wouldn't be cold,â he said, his eyes seeming to focus on a point on the horizon, but there was a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
âEven if I don't go on dates with idiots like that, I'm still being watched by stalkers somehow, right?â you said, tilting your head and mocking him slightly.
Eddie threw his hands up in the air. âI never watched your house. I'm not that kind of stalker, okay?â he said, the sarcasm in his voice a little defensive.
And then he continued. âBesides, you're lucky I was there. I don't want to watch stupid Josh get in your way again. He'll probably lose more teeth next time.â
You started laughing too, but at the same time you felt grateful that he was making such an effort to protect you. Eddie continued to walk beside you, occasionally glancing at you to make sure everything was all right.
âBy the way,â he added after a while, âit's all his fault that guy treated you the way he did. The way he spoke to you... It was unacceptable. If he tries to get close to you again, he'll find more than me.â
You felt your heartbeat a little faster at Eddie's protective attitude. Even after all these years, Eddie's devotion to you seemed unchanged. It was both frightening and strangely comforting.
When you came to a familiar corner of town, Eddie paused for a moment. âThis is it, isn't it?â he said, nodding toward your house.
âYes,â you said, nodding slightly. But you didn't want to say goodbye to him. There was something in you that wished this moment could last longer.
When the door opened, you were a little disturbed by the silence from inside. As you stepped inside you realized that Eddie was still waiting behind you. You turned to look at him and saw a hesitant look on his face.
âAnybody home?â Eddie asked, running a hand through the back of his hair and tugging at a lock of curly hair. It was an indication that he was a little nervous.
You shook your head from side to side. âNo, no one's home. My family has been out of town for a few days. It's just me...â Your voice trailed off, but then you gathered your courage and continued. âIf you want... you can come in and have a coffee. I mean... it's quite cold outside and you gave me your jacket.â
Eddie cocked his head and gave a light laugh. âI don't know, I don't want to be a bother. I mean... Tonight was weird enough...â
âEddie,â you said, determination in your eyes. âIt's just a coffee. Nothing weird. And... seriously, I'm not going to leave you out after you've helped me so much.â
Eddie hesitated for a few seconds, then shrugged and stepped through the doorway. âOkay, but just a coffee. I promise I won't bother you any more.â
âThe kitchen is this way,â you said with a slight smile as you led him towards the kitchen.
Eddie was leaning against a corner near the counter, and you were putting the kettle on for the coffee. âStill drinking it with sugar?â you asked, your eyes flicking to his face for a moment.
Eddie smiled. âMore of this 'do you drink with sugar' talk? You still don't recognize me?â
You laughed, this familiar conversation had taken you back to warmer and happier times in the past. Just as you reached for the sugar jar, Eddie bent down to pick up the glasses and your arms collided.
âOh, sorry,â you said and stepped back slightly, but Eddie moved at the same time and you collided again.
Eddie put on his familiar wry smile. âI guess we're still pretty clumsy, like the old days.â
You rolled your eyes. âWell, it's your fault. You shouldn't have stood so close.â
But Eddie didn't answer. His eyes locked on yours for a moment, then his gaze slowly dropped to your lips. Suddenly the kitchen became a much warmer, much more intimate place. Your heart began to beat faster.
âEddie...â you whispered, but your voice was barely a breath.
Eddie's hand was resting on the counter, his body pressed a little closer to yours. When his eyes refocused on yours, his expression was mixed. There was both eagerness and a kind of timidity.
âIf you want to stop me...â he said, his voice low, almost a murmur. âNow is the time.â
But you didn't say anything. In fact, you didn't even know what to say. It was as if everything had stopped; all you heard was your own breathing and Eddie's approaching presence. Your eyes closed involuntarily as you felt his nose touch yours.
Finally... his lips lightly touched yours. It was so gentle that for a brief moment you wondered if it was real. But then Eddie's hand reached around your waist, pulling you to him, deepening the kiss. This kiss carried all the intensity of that moment, all the longing, all the emotions that had been hidden for years.
Your fingers involuntarily gripped the hem of Eddie's shirt. As you inhaled deeply, his scent - the faint smell of cigarettes, his leather jacket and that timbre you had always recognized - completely overtook you. For a moment the world was just that moment.
Part. 1
Upon hearing the news of your positive test, Eddie was eager and happy to be able to share this new stage with you. However, his happiness faded when you met him at your trailer one afternoon to talk.
Distraught and with Lily playing at your feet, you told him that while you were delighted to take care of Lily, you still didn't feel ready to raise a child of your own. You were too young and Lily already required too much time and energy that you didn't know if you would be able to give to another baby. Eddie lowered his head, watching as Lily played with the laces of your sneakers as she babbled 'mom' at you. Sad but accepting your decision, he lifted his daughter in his arms and began to talk to her, explaining the situation.
"Don't be sad, my little flower. Your little brother or sister won't be able to come this time, but I assure you that soon you will have one to play with..." Eddie spoke sweetly to Lily and, as if she understood his words, pouted and sob.
Obviously that broke your heart. So much so that in the end you surrendered to him and decided to continue with your pregnancy.
You moved into Eddie's trailer, so you could take care of Lily more comfortably and little by little you would accommodate the space to receive the new baby. Gradually you began to adapt to life there, and to be with both of them almost 24/7. Eddie left for work in the morning and returned a little before dinner. Some days he would pick you up and would go to the mall to buy things necessary for your pregnancy.
Eddie was delighted and even seemed to enjoy the purchases more than you. He loved choosing your maternity dresses, your braziers and even the most comfortable underwear for you. While you were inside the dressing room, he stayed with Lily outside the room while he softly sang her a lullaby. Every time you came out to show off how your clothes fit, he would whistle at you flirtatiously and Lily would applaud awkwardly.
Inevitably you managed to fall in love with him. He was too attentive, loving and understanding with you and Lily. He enjoyed accompanying you to the doctor, listening carefully to every word he said and asking a lot of questions about how to cope better with the pregnancy. Sometimes after work he brought with him magazines with advice for the first pregnancy and several classical music albums, because according to him: 'scientists say that the baby can be smarter if he listens to Beethoven or Mozart!'. True or not, the reality is that he did everything possible to keep his family happy.
As the months passed, your belly increased in size and you experienced several signs and symptoms. Your feet began to hurt and so did the desire for strange food combinations. Eddie knew it and for that same reason on the weekends he took full care of Lily so you could rest. He would place your feet in warm water and massage them while he told you the list of names he had been making. He also made sure to leave the cupboard and refrigerator full of candy and other possible foods that you might want such as ice cream, cookies, chips, gummies and even pickles.
As for sex, it had never really stopped. What's more, his desire for you seemed to have increased as the weeks passed, taking advantage of every opportunity he had to make you his. Despite having a little girl in home, Eddie was quite creative when it came to getting between your legs. You could wake up in the middle of the night with his cock inside your pussy, his hands on your sensitive nipples and hot breath in your ear. Or during a quick shower, he would sneak between the curtains, helping you soap your back and taking the opportunity to kiss every sensitive part of your skin. Otherwise, far from the gaze of Lily who was playing in the living room, he would put his face under your dress to taste the juices of your pussy.
That Friday everything was as usual. Lily, who had barely begun to walk, played with holding on to the couch while moving her body from one side to the other to the rhythm of Beethoven. You gave the final details to the table and looked from time to time at the lasagna that was cooking in the oven. The sound of Eddie's truck's engine alerted you both that he was already there. Lily gave a little scream, anticipating her father's arrival.
"Daddy's home!" Eddie announced himself, informing the house. You received it with a small smile, letting Lily be the first to receive it. Seeing him, she began to walk clumsily into the arms of her father, who hugged her tightly. "Good job, Lily!" He smiled, picking her up in his arms and approaching you. "How did my girls behave?" He asked, giving you a sweet kiss on the lips and touching your belly tenderly. "And this little one? Can't wait to get out? Mm?"
"The food is ready." you announced, wiping your hands on your apron.
Eddie took Lily to the bathroom to wash her hands, telling the little girl about his day at work as if she understood something. Once at the table, you began to eat while the music played. You and Eddie helped the little girl eat her food, wiping her mouth every time she spit out a bit of it.
When he finished, Eddie took care of cleaning her and taking her to her crib to sleep. For your part, you picked up the dishes and were about to wash up when you felt Eddie's hands on your belly.
"Leave it, I'll wash them later. The food was delicious, so you deserve to rest, mommy." He speak and then kiss your cheek. You didn't object and left things to go sit with him on the couch. "How do you feel?" He asked, caressing your thighs and letting his rings make your skin crawl.
"Okay, a little tired. As Lily starts walking alone I should have been more careful that she doesn't set the house on fire." you joked, remembering the childrens prank she was slowly starting to get up to. "I missed you." You murmured, somewhat embarrassed by how much you needed him.
"Yeah? How much?" Eddie asked with a mischievous smile on his face, squeezing your thighs slightly.
"So, so much.." Eddie growled, knowing the tone of voice you used when you needed more than a kiss or hug.
Eddie approached and joined his lips with yours in a loud, wet kiss. He brought one of his hands to the back of your neck, grabbing some of your hair while his other hand moved up your thigh to your center.
"Poor mommy, spending so many hours here with my baby..." he murmured, separating himself a little. "Alone and without anyone who can satisfy and fill that sweet, tight pussy.." he massage your pussy over your underwear.
"You're bad, very bad for always leaving me wanting more..." you complain and then moans when he found your clit lightly pinched by him.
"I know, my queen, I know... but now I'm here..." Eddie pulled her hair a little, making you moan. "I'm all yours, use me however you want."
It was a matter of minutes before you found yourself on top of Eddie, naked, riding his big cock. Your swollen breasts bounced with each sit on his hard cock, leaving such an exciting sight for Eddie who watched you with his hands behind his head.
"Come on, mommy. Milk this cock." His words did nothing but encourage you to move your hips faster and making the clash of skin echo through the room. "Fuuck, that's right.. Use me, use me.." Eddie closed his eyes, moaning at the way your pussy rode his cock with ease.
You placed your hands on his chest, digging your nails and trying to stabilize yourself, making his cock go even deeper in you in that new position.
"God.. Look at your tits, they are so big.. And heavy.." Eddie brought his hands to her breasts, making circles on her erect nipples and pressing them lightly in the hope that milk would come out of them. "I promise you that as soon as your sweet milk starts coming out of here, I will be the first to taste it.." you moaned when you heard it. "Uh? You like that? Would you like to breastfeed me?" You bit your lower lip, nodding madly and still moving.
Just thinking about it made Eddie even more horny. He brought his hands to your waist, carefully pulling you towards him to begin penetrating you hard. His hips rose and fell quickly, hitting his pubis against your clit and rubbing your tits against his beefy chest.
"I'm going to fill you with my cum again and again..." he moaned as his balls slapped against part of your ass. "Tell me...Who did this to you? Uh? Who put a baby inside you?" He asked, looking lustfully into your eyes while one of his hands caressed your belly.
"You- It was you.." you managed to say with a broken voice, completely overstimulated. Eddie smiled proudly at your words, changing his thrusts for slower but deeper ones.
"That's right, mommy.. You're so good that your fertile womb took my semen the first time.. Good girl." You moaned at his compliments, feeling your orgasm approaching. "Are you going to cum? Mmh?" He asked sweetly, caressing your face as you nodded your head. "Come on, cum for me..." those words were enough for seconds later his cock was wet with your sweet nectar.
Eddie took care of cleaning you, covering you with a blanket and placing you on his chest. Your head was spinning, dazed and in some sort of subspace. He noticed it, caressed your hair and let him slowly put you back together while you listened to his heartbeat.
"Hey, I have to show you something." He spoke to you after a few minutes. You raised your head to look at him, Eddie reached into one of the pockets of his jacket and pulled out a small box. "Remember what I told you the first time..." he stretched out his words, referring to the time he fucked you on that same couch. "What did I tell you?"
You thought for a few seconds before answering. "That you would make me a baby." You responded confidently and Eddie laughed when he heard you. "And that you would make me your wife" You added, remembering the situation even more.
"Very good.." he smiled at you and brought the small box to your hands. "Well, I think it's time to make it official..." you slowly opened the box and found a beautiful ring inside. "Will you marry me?"
Alpha!Eddie Munson x Omega!Reader
+18 hurt/comfort, angst, depression, omega dropping, mean!eddie, rejection, abo dynamic
Not proofread, just needed to put my hurt into words. i was sad this morning and this came out.
Dropping is a self defense mechanism for Omegas when their needs aren't met. That could be rejection from their alpha, having no pack, having no pups, not being able to scent, etc. They induce themselves in a non responsive state, sometimes comatose until they feel safe once again.
wc: 4k+
Plot: Eddie is the reason you drop.
SCENT
Eddie Munson wanted to be your mate back in Hawkins when he had presented a courting gift. It wasnât out of nowhere, he was very much sure you were his mate because well, you had spent your heat with him, as well as he spent his rut with you. You also met with him every so often to mess around and just stare at the stars above his trailer. He was sure you were going to be his mate, because you two had confessed to each other even.
But you rejected him.
You never gave him a reason, never gave him the motive for your rejection and why you led him on the way you did, but thatâs what made Eddie greatly despise you. Now, you had a reason for the rejection. Your father had realized the relationship you had with the Male Alpha, and he had dimmed Eddie a worthless suitor. You would have eloped of course, you were ready to do so, but your father wasnât an ordinary man at all.Â
Your father threatened to kill Eddie if you were to run away with him.
He promised you he would find you both and you would become a lonely Omega with a bitten mating gland and that would probably make you spiral into absolute madness. You didnât care about what happened to you, but you did care about Eddie. You were so happy when he had presented a courting gift to you. You were so absolutely happyâŚ
But your fatherâs words came back into your mind and even if your heart broke, even if your omega self was trying to claw out of your skin to go towards Eddie, your alpha, your other half of your protective and motherly omega wanted to protect him at all costs. So you stepped away without any reason, without telling him what had truly happened behind your houseâs doors. His scent became bitter, so bitter that you had to scrunch up your nose at the unfamiliar smell he sent your way. He hated you.
Eddie then left Hawkins.
And everything you did to protect him was in vain, because your father started presenting possible suitors for you, Alphas that would give you everything, riches, family⌠But you rejected every single one of them, and your father got fed up with your nonsense after a year of trying. Your mother just stood there as your father prepared your bags and put them at the front door. He kicked you out of the house and out of his pack.Â
Your friends had left for Indianapolis so you headed over there as well, trying to find comfort in them, wanting to be scented if they were still a pack. You moved, you actually found a decent job as an assistant, and you could afford rent in a nice apartment that had a living room, kitchen and a bedroom. But when you finally crossed paths with Robin Buckley after calling her on her cell phone, her scent was very familiar. Your Beta friend had a pack that was for sure, but the scent she was emanating meant that they had a particular Alpha as a protector, as a leader.
So when you finally met up with everyone once more at Robinâs home, the scent that hit your nostrils was too potent, as if there was a wildfire spreading all over the room, only to become bitter and sour in the matter of seconds because there in the middle of the room stood Eddie Munson, in his new Alpha glory. He was bigger, beard covering his features, hair tied back as he stared at you with hatred in his eyes.
Everyone noticed how your scent transformed into a humid kind of smell, meaning that sadness was present in yourself as well as fear. You werenât welcome in the pack, and he made it clear as he forbade everyone to scent you. He didnât want you near him, he didnât want you to mess him up again, and now that he found his pack and he actually recovered from the pain you caused, he wasnât going to let you ruin it with your smell.
He believes you donât deserve it, even though he could smell you as a packless Omega, he tried to not take pity on you, but it was impossible, yet his resolve stayed the same. Steve was an Alpha as well, but since he had mated with Jonathan, his protection only served for his mate, so Eddie became the leader of the pack instantly.Â
You had tried to talk to him, to explain what had happened a year ago, but he wouldnât listen. He had screamed at you to leave him alone in his Alpha voice, which only made you close your mouth, and step away from him. His heart broke as he smelled the fear in you, and how you left a lingering sour scent as you walked away from him.Â
The first heat you suffered in Indianapolis was brutal.
You had nothing to nest with. You had no possessions of your pack, scents of the people you cared about, so you had to fake a nest with your sheets, putting them all around you to create a placebo effectâ But your heat was painful, trying to pleasure yourself as your slick covered your entire bed, memories of Eddie helping you through it rushing in your mind which only made the pain even worse.Â
You contemplated calling Robin, asking her to tell Eddie to come to your house, to help youâ But you remembered how he had ordered you to stay away, and the omega inside you, the one that still held onto him as a mate, listened.Â
When you met Billy Hargrove, a very powerful Alpha in the city, you really did believe you finally found a pack. You were talking non stop, getting to know each other, going on dates together, and Robin was very happy for you. She had been trying to make Eddie come to his senses about you joining the pack, afraid of what might happen to you, but Eddie refused once again telling Robin that you could manage alone because that was your decision a year ago.
Your heat was coming up and Billy had yet to scent you, so when you finally became intimate with him you were hoping he would. But he had remained away from you as he penetrated you, holding you down on the bed as he took what he wanted from you. Once it was over, you tried to nuzzle his neck, scent him and probably rub some of his on you. He pushed you away instantly and told you that he didnât feel the connection he thought he would, and after three months of knowing him, he left you.
The second heat you suffered in Indianapolis was torture.
There were traces of Billyâs scent in some sheets, but it wasnât enough for your nest, and you remembered the fact that he had decided you were not going to be his mate, only making the situation worse thanks to the rejection. You weren't good enough, he didn't want you, just like Eddie doesn't want you now.
Once again, you found yourself looking at your phone in order to call Robin, to bring you some of her clothes, maybe even get help from Steve who also, with his mateâs approval, wanted to scent you.Â
Eddieâs fear settled in when Robin told him you had spent another heat alone, and he had been even angrier at you the past few months for dating another Alpha. Now knowing that your Alpha had left you alone in your worst time made him feel like dying and he wanted to murder the other man.
He cared for you and he cursed at himself for the pull you had on him still. It wasnât fair. He had suffered triggered ruts due to your rejection, painful stabs in his gut and brain for the lack of you, the lack of your touches, your smell, your voiceâŚÂ
You looked lifeless after your heat. Robin noticed and was going to go against Eddieâs orders as she prepared a bag with her clothes to give to you. You declined it. You were going to make Robin lose her pack, possibly, if she did this. If Eddie smelled himself on you without him actually scenting you, he would know that it was Robin.Â
So now, it was your third heat in Indianapolis.
And it was murdering you.
Your fingers this time did find your phone, tears running down your face, as every single muscle in your body started tensing, slowly and painfully. It was Eddieâs birthday, and of course you were not invited. You wouldnât have been able to attend anyways because you knew your calendar, and you knew it was close, but you werenât prepared for how torturous it would be.Â
Your bed had slicked sheets all over it, not even caring of making a make pretend nest with them any longer. Your closet was a mess as you tried to find something that didnât have your smell on it because you could feel your heart about to explode and your whines could probably be heard all over your omega complex. You couldn't make a nest. You didn't have a nest.
You didn't have a pack. You didn't have a mate. No one wants you. You were never going to be able to have pups. You are a worthless and useless Omega.
So why keep trying?
Your body was on fire even if you had stripped to nothing, splashed yourself in cold water, until you had finally landed on your bed, unable to move. You couldnât even touch yourself, you didnât have any power left in you, but your fingers and hand could still move.
âHello?â You heard Robin call your name as music blasted behind her. You opened your mouth only for your voice to get caught in your throat, choked small sobs escaped you and thatâs when Robin lost it. âTURN THE FUCKING MUSIC DOWN!âÂ
âI-Iââ You couldnât speak, it was painful, it hurt, it hurt, it hurt.
âBaby, please, whatâs wrong?â Robin panicked, pacing around the room as everyone stared at her, including Eddie whose gut was slowly falling to the ground.Â
âSâShirtâ Pleaseâ I need itââ Your cracked voice, your sobs, and the whines. Everyone in the room could hear the whines. Steve immediately took his jacket off. Jonathan took his sweater off. Nancy didnât know you, but her inner alpha became full alert at the sound and she understood in a single second what was going on, taking her cardigan off herself as well. Dustin stared at Eddie in disbelief as the Alpha male had wide eyes, head spinning around uncontrollably as he stared at Robin.
âIâm going, Iâm going, Iâm getting you stuff okay?! Just remember Iâm going!â The phone clicked and Robin looked down at it with shaky hands and her head finally snapped towards Eddie and for the first time, something that almost never happened could be heard in the room.Â
A Beta was actually defying an Alpha.Â
A small growl was shot at Eddieâs way as she started gathering everyoneâs belongings. Eddie at this point, did not care for his scent to be passed over, he didnât care any longer. You were in danger and it was his fault. It was his fault. It was all his fault. He grabbed onto his car keys, despite Robin telling him that he shouldnât come, that he is going to make everything worse, but he didnât listen, he didnât want to listen.Â
So when they got to your complex, Robin used her spare keys to actually get inside as Eddie snuck in. He could smell the alarmed omegas at the scent of an Alpha in the building, but he had to get to you. He had to reach you in time. You were three floors up, and in the second one he could already smell you and it wasnât sweet like the heats you spent with him. It wasnât something that was triggering his arousal, or his need to mate you. It was triggering his need to save you.
And when Robin opened your door, even she couldnât handle the smell, and Eddie almost hunched over at the pain it shot inside of him. Robin didnât waste a second as she ran into your room, only to find you naked, sweat all over, body trembling and nonsense spouting out of your mouth. She panicked as she started placing everyoneâs belongings around you and she took her shirt off, leaving her in her bra only, not caring at all about Eddie entering the room.
His eyes bulged out of his skull at the sight of you. His eyes filled with tears as his body yelled at him to go towards you, to hold you, to scent you, but he knew that would make it worse for you, because he had commanded you before to stay away from him. His heart was clenching inside his chest as Robin kneeled on the bed next to you, putting her shirt over your chest so you could smell her. She was crying as she held you, cradling you up so your face could hit her chest.
âIâm here! Iâ I brought everyoneâs scents, I put them all around you baby, Iâm hereââ Robin was choking sobs as you stared at the ceiling, completely gone, mumbles coming out of your mouth that she started to be able to listen and understand, only for her heart and the Alphaâs that was still shocked in the room, break in pieces.
âI-I canât smell them, I canâtââ You lost your sense of smell. Rejection was present in your core, your mind, your heart and Robin could smell it becoming stronger. âIâIâm useless, I have no packâ n-no one wants m-my pupsâ No one wants meââ
Eddie wanted to yell, tell you that he does, tell you that he is here, tell you that he was a fucking idiot, tell you that he still loves you and he still believes you are his mate, that you have always been and always will despite you rejecting him.
âBaby, baby, youâre not, youâre not, Iâm sorry, Iâm so sorry, Iâm hereââ You werenât processing Robinâs words, the word useless repeating in your head all the time, like a mantra. You were rejected, an outcast, and the only person you thought of as your long lasting mate didnât want anything to do with you.
And then, your body stopped trembling, and Robin saw how your features relaxed, your eyes became half-lidded as if in a sleepy state, and your body weight was heavier than before. Robin looked all over you to see signs of movement, anything at all, but even your smell was gone.Â
You dropped.Â
And Eddie, Eddie felt like killing himself for it.Â
âThis is all your fault⌠I shouldnât have listened to youâŚâ
Eddie refused to leave your side, despite Robin and even Nancy wanting him to leave the room. Steve and Jonathan didnât even look his way, and Eddie knew he was losing his pack, but at this point he didnât care, he deserved it, all of it. His scent was almost unbearable for everyone else in the room, musky but in a very bad way, almost rotten.Â
You were in a hospital room. Your whole body was connected to IVs, to machines, your beating heart still heard on the small monitor, that only made a tiny bit on everyoneâs minds have some peace. They had surrounded your body with clothes, accessories, even socks just to try to make you feel safe again.
Suddenly, a sob could be heard in the room, a low groan, almost a whine but not quite because he canât manage to do that. His head was in his hands as he stared down at the floor and Dustin, despite his friend acting wrongly, he still decided to walk over to him and crouch to pass onto him his still pup smell. He still hasnât presented, even at 15 years old, despite his friends already done so.Â
âP-Please Dustin, h-her.â Eddie choked and Dustin understood immediately, walking over to your still body and leaning down to dip his head into the crook of your neck. He whined when he couldnât smell you, still he rubbed his face against your skin, trying to make his scent linger.Â
You didnât wake.
Days passed, then a week, and Eddie was becoming desperate, feral even and in the bad way. He was pacing back and forth in his room, and he decided to go against his packâs orders. He started putting on clothes, shirts, pants, and in each one, he did some push ups in order for him to sweat even more than before. He had gathered almost all of the shirts he owned, his sweatshirts, pants, hoodies, bandanas, even underwear and put it all in a duffel bag.Â
He rushed to the hospital like a maniac and when he entered the room he commanded everyone to get out. Jonathan flinched at his orders and immediately rushed out, but Eddie sensed the defying Beta in the room that was covering your body protectively for him to not come any closer.Â
âRobin, pleaseâ Pleaseââ He knew it was karma. He had denied everyone else to scent you, and now, Robin was out of his pack, his scent no longer lingering over her because she wouldnât let him come close to her, and she was the one that now didnât want his scent over you.
But Robin was desperate too. You were a great friend to her, helped her deal with her undying love for Nancy, knowing it canât ever happen. Betas and Alphas are a rare pair, and she didnât think Nancy would want a Beta as her long mate. She couldnât even bite her. They would never be able to mate.
They had tried everything, switching clothes everyday, Dustin coming over to try to scent you but his pup smell was very dim due to his age. The only one that hadnât put any clothes around your nest, was Eddie. Your past mate. Your past Alpha.Â
Robin was completely desperate.
Enough so that she actually left the room. Eddie immediately got to work, taking his clothes out of the bag to put them alongside everyone else's, all around you in order to make a nest. His tears ran down his face, his head painfully throbbing as your eyes remained closed, an oxygen mask over your mouth and nose.
How could he forgive himself for this? How could he live with the thought of you stuck in a bed because of what he did?Â
âDarling, please open your eyesâŚâ His face came close to yours after many months of dying to do so, after a year and a half of doing it for the last time while you two laid on his bed back at the trailer park. You didnât want his scent on you so you two wouldnât be caught, but that night he couldnât help himself, and you didnât either. The next day, you rejected him.
His face nuzzled your neck, his mouth traced your skin, placing soft kisses as he cried for not being able to smell you. That sweet smell he remembered every night, every day, at every hour. He wrapped his hand at the back of your neck in order to lift you up slightly so he could rub his scent gland against yours, repeating the action on the other side.Â
A gasp was heard in the room as the heart rate monitor picked up slightly.Â
His eyes widened as he pulled away to see your eyes staring widely at the ceiling, not understanding whatâs going on, why youâre here, why is his scent all over you, why does he feel so close to you? You were choking into the mask, gasping for air, and you felt arms cradle you into a chest.
Alpha. Alpha. Your Alpha?
âHi Sweetheart.â He choked out as he felt you breathe against him, his head right on top of yours as he held you close. Your body relaxed into him, memories vividly replaying in your head, memories youâve always wanted to repeat, memories that made you want to go back in time and not listen to your father.Â
Your nose picked up various scents now, aside from Eddie, you could smell Robin. Even as a Beta she made sure to put her smell all over her clothes. You could smell Steve, Jonathan, an alpha you donât know of but the smell was welcome either way⌠And you could smell the faint scent of a pup. A pup was here. A pup scented you.
You were safe.Â
Eddie pulled away from you to look at your face again, and finally locked eyes with yours. Eyes that no longer held resentfulness, but guilt. Eyes that no longer held anger, but grief. Eyes that no longer held hate, but love. Pure and unconditional love. He didnât care what happened in the past. He didnât care any longer, but he cannot forgive himself for what he did to you. He cannot forgive himself for being the cause of all of this. He cannot forgive himself for causing you this much pain that you had to shut your brain off in order to go to a safer place.Â
You smelled his bitterness, painful, making your stomach turn uncomfortably. You reached up to take the mask off your face and you couldnât be away from him again. This time you will fight for your alpha. You will show him how much you want him, how much youâve wanted him for the past year, how much you needed him the few months youâve been in the city.Â
So you let out calming pheromones from your body. He was hit with them immediately, making his shoulders relax as you held onto him. Clarity filled your head the more you looked at him, the more you stared at his features. His face contorted again, a frown appearing in his eyebrows as tears started spilling out of his eyes uncontrollably.
âIâm sorryâ Iâmâ Iâm so sorryââ He sobbed against you, wrapping his arms around you so he could dip his face into the crook of your neck again and his cries were louder as your scent filled his nostrils again. It was just like he remembered, but he didnât understand why it was sweet and not sour. He didnât understand why you didnât pull away. He didnât understand why you didnât hate him.
And thatâs when you told him everything as his face stayed still on your neck.
âI wanted to protect youâŚâ You finished saying as tears rolled down your cheeks, uncontrollably so, and he pulled away to reveal his stained cheeks, a wild look on his face. He gulped as he rushed to take off his pick necklace, looking down at it only for then to show it to you in his hands, presenting it.Â
You smiled at it through your tears because it was the same courting gift he had tried to give you back in Hawkinsâ and this time, you took it.Â
Three months later, you were laughing while drinking a beer with Robin on your side while her hand was being held by Nancy on her other side. Steve had his arm around the new Alpha in the room who claimed he was going to be the next leader of the pack because the last one had already retired. Jonathan rolled his eyes at Dustin every time he said that, with a hand resting on his belly.
Eddie walked into the room with a beer in hand and sat next to you, on your other side in his couch, your couch, and dropped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close. Robin rolled her eyes knowing the conversation was over now as she put her attention on Nancy while your eyes found Eddieâs. He smiled as he leaned towards you to press a deep kiss on your lips.Â
You smiled in between the kiss, reciprocating it as you pressed a hand on his knee. You heard a growl rumbling in his chest and you couldnât help but giggle at his reaction, making you pull away from his lips.Â
âIf I pop a knot right here, itâs entirely your fault.â
âYouâre the horndog.â He rolled his eyes at you and leaned down to press a soft kiss in between your neck and shoulder, making you shiver as a smile spread all over your lips.
He kissed right over his bite mark.
I did say it was hurt/comfort.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed, sorry if I didn't get it right, this is my first time writing about an Omega actually dropping.
Also if you're new in the omegaverse thing, yes, males get pregnant because they have the secondary gender, meaning they have vajayjays and uterus as well as their shafts.
Alpha females have dicks but cannot get pregnant.
That's all.
Cowboy Up - Pt.1 - Ryan x Dutton!reader
Um so I watched all of Yellowstone last week and as a result, my multi-year writer's block was broken by a need to see more of Ryan because I am obsessed with Ian Bohen. Idk how many parts this will have or how often it will get updated as I'm in the last few months of uni but I hope y'all enjoy!
Pairing: Ryan (Yellowstone) x Dutton!Reader (Kayce's twin sister)
WC: 1053
Next part
Disclaimer: Beyond watching Yellowstone I have zero/little knowledge of Western riding and the ranching lifestyle but I do know horses so that has certainly influenced this! I'm also English so writing dialogue correctly for them is not my strong point! If you find any issues please let me know!
---
The sun was just beginning to dip below the mountains and the cold was starting to set in when she joined him on the fence. Neither of them spoke for a while, just looking out at the vastness in front of them, all that was theirs but came with so many conditions. Â
Eventually she broke the silence, âso you told him? Howâd he take that one?â
Wordlessly he opened his shirt where the âYâ was just starting to scab over, still red and angry.
âMotherfucker,â she swore, âthis ainât fair Kayce. He doesnât just get to do this.â
He shook his head, âdad does whatever he wants and there ainât no consequences for him. Thatâs why I gotta do this.â
âShit man. Whatâs Monica gonna do? Besides worrying about you getting your ass shot in the desert miles from civilisation?â
Kayce chuckled, âbeats getting my ass shot in the middle of Montana miles from civilisation. Sheâll be okay, her family will help and sheâll be a teacher. Just like she planned. Itâs you Iâm worried about here with dad and no one else to speak sense to. âCept Leeâ
âWell Iâm leaving, dad be damned. Iâm not gonna be a pawn in his power trip. Gonna go see this godforsaken country and win it all so that when I come back he canât question whether itâs where I wanna be,â she declared.
Her brother rolled his eyes, âyou ainât talking about the same him now.â
âI donât know what your talking about,â she denied, staring out at the darkened mountains.
Kayce shoved her shoulder, âyou canât bullshit to me y/n. Thatâs the one problem with being twins, ainât no way to lie to me.â
âIâm just a kid to him, he ainât ever gonna see me any other way if I stay here,â she admitted, âhell if I stay here no one will ever see me as anything more than his kid. âS why we both gotta do this Kayce.â
He nodded, âno way to stand in the sun in this state, always gonna be a shadow.â
âWhen I come back Iâll be able to stand in sunlight so bright Iâll have a fucking halo.â
2 years laterâŚ
 Montana has its charms all year round, but fall has a particular appeal. The leaves had started to turn, there was a chill in the air that only seemed to get stronger and there was still a frost on the grass that the sun hadnât hit. Â
With the sun keeping the cold from their bones, the Yellowstone ranch hands were occupying themselves keeping their roping skills fresh. Rip observed from the sidelines as the new hand struggled to keep up with Ryan who turned to lecture the kid about keeping his eye on the steer. Â
Lloyd rolled his eyes when he missed the horns again, âyou gotta try harder than that if you wanna be a wrangler!â
âHe keeps pulling the damn steer too early,â the hand argued back.
Ryan glared at him, âdonât fuckinâ blame me for your bad skills.â
Before they could descend into an all out brawl, the group were distracted by the sound and sight of truck coming down the road. They watched it pull up in front of the barn, trailer in tow. A rare silence occupied them as they watched a young woman step out, adjust her hat then stare out across the ranch in front of her.
âWell Iâll be damned,â Lloyd muttered, âsheâs back. You fuckinâ know about this?â
Rip said nothing, but his face gave the answer. The other hands who recognised her muttered between themselves about what she was doing back after so long.
The new hand leaned over towards Ryan, âwho the fuck is that and why does everybody care?â
âThat is y/n Dutton,â he answered without taking his eyes off of her.
âI didnât know John had another daughter,â he responded.
Ryan shook his head, âhell kid you gotta lot to learn about this place.â
âSheâs fuckinâ hot mind,â the hand murmered.
The older hand spat out his words, âyou keep words like that off your tongue if you want to keep it.â
Lee stepped out of the barn and stepped around the truck to greet her, âthe prodigal daughter returns.â
âI donât see Beth anywhere,â she laughed bitterly, âbut itâs good to see you Lee.â
He hugged her, âIâm glad youâre back. Been a long time coming.â
âI came back for me, not for him remember that,â she turned towards the corral, âthink Iâve given them enough of a show to explain it so they can pick their jaws up off the floor?â
He gestured for her to follow him towards where the ranch hands were all still quietly watching. She strode over to the group, smiling at Rip who nodded back at her.
âWhereâs that mare of yours?â He asked.
Y/n shrugged, âa champion barrel horse would be wasted on this ranch. Sold her for more money than Iâm ever gonna earn in the rest of my lifetime.â
âYou ainât rodeoing anymore?â Lloyd questioned.
âI did what I set out to do when I went on the circuit. Saw this godforsaken country and won it all. Itâd get boring to win it over again,â she moved her gaze towards where Ryan was watching her, âainât no one gonna question where I wanna be now.â
Rip nodded, âafraid we ainât got a horse to spare for you y/n.â
âI got that covered Rip. Got one coming up tomorrow from a ranch in Wyoming. Some fuckinâ old school boys who donât know how to be nice to a horse they didnât ruin,â she explained, âmanâs wife broke it and now sheâs dead ainât no one gonna ride him gentle. Figured he might stand a chance with me.â
Lloyd chuckled, âalways were a soft hand. Figured thatâs how you won it all.â
âGuess that question that remains is, do you have a place for me? Not in the house but here,â she clarified.
Lee looked at Rip then back at his sister, âI reckon so. You gonna stay in the bunkhouse?â
âOh fuck no,â y/n laughed, âI didnât drag that thing all the way from Texas to sleep with these fuckheads. Itâs looked after me in worse places. Think itâll do just fine here.â
