Support Gaza: Responsible Donations for Humanitarian Relief
In times of humanitarian crises like the one unfolding in Gaza, extending a helping hand can be a powerful act of compassion. However, it's crucial to ensure that your donations reach those who need them the most. In this article, we'll guide you through responsible donation options and how to make a positive impact.
Supporting Gaza: A Humanitarian Urgency
The situation in Gaza demands immediate attention and assistance. To effectively contribute to the relief efforts, follow these steps: 1. Donate through Established Channels Donating through well-coordinated emergency response appeal mechanisms is the most efficient way to help. Consider supporting the British Red Cross, a reputable organization with a history of aiding in crises. The UK government also recommends donating to this organization or through other trusted aid organizations. 2. Ensure Charity Legitimacy If you decide to donate to charities other than the British Red Cross, exercise caution. Here are essential checks to make before giving: - Check the Charity Register: Verify the charity's name and registration number. Charities with an income of £5,000 or more must be registered and are regulated by The Charity Commission. - Genuine Charity: Confirm the legitimacy of the charity before sharing any financial information. - Seek Information: When in doubt, don't hesitate to reach out to the charity or organization for more information. It's always wise to clarify any uncertainties.
Donating Essential Supplies
While your generosity is greatly appreciated, donating cash through trusted charities and aid organizations is often the most efficient way to help. This allows organizations to allocate resources where they are needed most. Avoid donating goods directly, as this can pose logistical challenges.
Donating as a UK Company
If your UK-based company wants to contribute, consider these recommendations: - Follow Established Channels: Make your donation through well-established emergency response appeal mechanisms or trusted aid organizations. - Goods in-Kind: If your organization wishes to explore donating goods in-kind, consider the following options: - Explore existing partnerships with the UN, the British Red Cross, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that you have in place. - Contact established charities registered with regulatory bodies such as the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, or the Fundraising Regulator.
Operational Guidance for Aid Providers
For organizations operating in high-risk jurisdictions, it's crucial to ensure that your aid efforts remain legitimate and compliant with counter-terrorism legislation and sanctions. Refer to the operational guidance published to support organizations providing vital and lawful humanitarian aid.
Conclusion
Your support can make a world of difference in the lives of those affected by crises like the one in Gaza. By donating responsibly through established channels and ensuring the legitimacy of your chosen charity, you can contribute effectively to relief efforts and help alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza. Together, we can make a positive impact on this urgent humanitarian issue. Sources: THX News & Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Read the full article

Mother and daughter, Jennifer and Emilia Clarke, were awarded MBEs for their brain injury charity work. They are co-founders of @SameYouOrg, a charity which develops better mental health recovery treatment for survivors and raises awareness around rehabilitation.
Dr. Gubby Ayida has been the CEO of @EvelinaLondon since May 2023 and oversaw its opening of the new Children’s Day Surgery Unit last year.
Wendy Simm was born and raised in Moss Side, Manchester and founded ‘Keeping It Real 24/7.’ The food bank focuses on delivering culturally important foods to those in need, such as yams and sweet potatoes, which generally are not provided by other food banks.
Captain Preet Chandi is a British Army Captain who holds three world records for polar trekking, most recently in December 2023 for becoming the world's fastest woman to complete a solo South Pole ski expedition.
Barbara Smith is a psychotherapist who has served over 16 years with @BritishRedCross, offering psychosocial support in disaster and war zones, aiding those in trauma.
Sarina Weigman began her role as England Women’s Head Coach in September 2021, leading The @Lionesses to Euro 2022 victory. She was presented with an Honorary CBE in June last year.
Renee Salt is a Holocaust survivor who was born in Zdunska Wola, Poland in 1929. She survived both Auschwitz and Belsen, but her family did not. Renee has spoken to thousands of young people as part of @HolocaustUK's programmes.

Just wanted to post a warning friends ... I got an email today that was supposedly from the British Red Cross asking for donations for Ukraine ... There was a BitCoin Wallet ID noted as the send to link. If you don't think this is suspicious THINK AGAIN. As much as we all would like to HELP the Ukrainian people there are scammers out there that are ONLY interested in separating YOU from your MONEY. Investigate always! I checked on the British Red Cross's Website, and the email is most definitely a scam. I deleted it, but you can never be too careful in today's times. Stay safe my friends.

On This Day In History 25 May 1846 . Princess Helena of the United Kingdom was born. . ◼ She was the third daughter & fifth child of the reigning British monarch, Queen Victoria, & her husband Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha. . . ◼ Helena had a firm interest in nursing, & became President of the British Nurses' Association (RBNA) upon its foundation in 1887. In 1891, it received the prefix "Royal", & received the Royal Charter the following year. . ◼ She was a strong supporter of nurse registration, an issue that was opposed by both Florence Nightingale & leading public figures. . ◼ In a speech Helena made in 1893, she made clear that the RBNA was working towards "improving the education & status of those devoted & self-sacrificing women whose whole lives have been devoted to tending the sick, the suffering, & the dying" (Although the RBNA was in favour of registration as a means of enhancing & guaranteeing the professional status of trained nurses, its incorporation with the Privy Council allowed it to maintain a list rather than a formal register of nurses). . . . #OnThisDayInHistory #ThisDayInHistory #TheYear1846 #Princess #PrincessHelena #PrincessHelenaoftheUnitedKingdom #History #d25may #HouseofSaxeCoburgandGotha #Royalty #HerRoyalHighness #Monarchy #BritishMonarchy #royalhistory #Historyfacts #vintagephotography #Saxecoburgandgotha #Princess #Nursing #Britishredcross #Redcross (at Buckingham Palace) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx5B3Y-g_XH/?igshid=qtoppovtwdx6

Nigerian Red Cross Society Lagos State Branch working with ➕ British Red Cross celebrates International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction🙏🕺🛌 Theme: Disaster Mitigation, Responsibility of the People. #onlyTogether Chief Speaker Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, The coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Today we took to the streets of the Makoko community, Yaba Lagos sensitising the people on the effect of improper waste disposal and the hazard it causes at large. The government alone cannot stop or curb this menace but it takes the effort of everybody in the community we live in. We must dispose of our waste properly to avoid blocking drainage which can result in flooding when it rains. You'll agree with me today that many Nigerians especially Lagosians threw carn and used sachets water in the open place and gutter not minding the effect. Only when we work together we can stop these bad habits.🙏🙏🙏🙏❌❌ #onlytogether #nigerianredcross #sensitization #lagosredcross #britishredcross #disastermitigation #responsibilityofthepeople #improperwastedisposal #wednesdayvibes #wednesdaymitivation #ered #ecross #realestateinvestment #jmjresources #ocheedwardtherealtor #buyland #buyluxuryhome #investinnigeria (at Makoko Yaba Lagos) https://www.instagram.com/p/CU-PFftj9xe/?utm_medium=tumblr

Incredible and important work @yukisugiura.photo @kimberlyhoang1 @britishredcross 🙏🏼 #Repost @yukisugiura.photo with @get_repost ・・・ I was asked by @britishredcross to capture images in Niger, Africa to raise awareness of chronic hunger in the area. I only saw a glimpse of what is happening in the whole Sahel region of Africa. Their tough life will only get worse due to the extreme weather and the poverty. It’s unjust and a total madness we don’t even know much about it, let alone do something about it. We are contributing to this silent crisis one way or another - 7+ million tons of domestic food waste we produce each year in UK contributes to climate change for an example. Time to be more aware of what is happening and know how privileged we are. We can all do something to help, however small. Please read and spread the words to support this campaign. Thank you. . . . Last year’s drought in Niger made Aissa’s crops fail, leaving the family with absolutely nothing to eat. Already one of the driest climates in the world, people who live here have always been incredibly resilient, are now having to adapt to ever harsher conditions. This is what food looks like on the frontline of climate change. Across the Sahel region of Africa, there is a silent hunger crisis. Over seven million people don’t know where their next meal will come from and 1.5 million children are acutely malnourished. The @britishredcross is working across the region, helping to break the cycle of hunger. You can help people facing chronic hunger by donating to the British Red Cross Disaster Fund #WorldFoodDay . . #chronichunger #portrait #food #foodwaste #climatechange #niger #britishredcross #help #memoryoffood #photography #women #hunger #crisis (at Niger) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3r-4vznaTs/?igshid=jcfaos03c56h

Some of you have messaged asking why I've not driven the L663 yet. I was invited to test the new breed but JLR's initial plans were understandably postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that Land Rover have deployed a fleet of Defenders & expertise to partners Red Cross to help support international communities. I'll get a chance to drive L663 soon enough. Right now and for the foreseeable future, Defender is best suited where needed, in the field helping others in the global fight against #covid_19 Pic via @landroverukpr #landrover #L663 #Defender2020 #AllNewDefender #Defender110 #landroverdefender #landroverphotoalbum #landroverevolved #RedCross @britishredcross https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Pjy9ZBSGa/?igshid=1sufcw55ss2bc
