It is in the Italian style & the grouping & colouring beautiful. He could hardly believe Ross could have done such a painting. Princess Helena, (Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein by marriage), died at Schomberg House on 9 June 1923. . ▪️Her funeral, described as a "magnificently stage-managed scene" by her biographer Seweryn Chomet, was headed by King George V. . ▪️The regiment of her favourite son, Prince Christian Victor, lined the steps of St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Just finished my rounds of video calls and Xmas greeting to friends from all over the world, Manila, Tokyo, Hanoi, France etc... It’s so nice to just share and catch up wut many friends I haven’t heard from in a long while. Real friends will always be resilient they will cry with you in you pain and laugh with you in your good times. This year, one of those priceless gems I have come to appreciate more is my BFF @princesshelena we dont often call, text or meet but whenever we do, it feels like we have not missed a day. Many — I mean mentally insanely many people have come and go tried to wish me ill, heck I even had nasty death threats for this year! Good old nasty chunk inhumane humans would villainize you, believe in hearsays and naysayers... but lest I forget, I want to remember those who remained steadfast believing in me and my cause... well just believing in friendship and kindness is enough. Thank you Princess, despite you are always late whenever we meet and I get annoyed with it sometimes, I am thankful for the friendship that remained strong. Thank you. Nicknamed 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 she was described lively, outspoken and something of a tomboy little girl , reacting by punching the bully on the nose against brotherly teasing. Princess 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗮 had a very close relationship with her elder brother Prince 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱, who was the second son and fourth child of the Queen. He considered her younger sister to be his favourite sister. 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗲 described as an extrovert with an enquiring mind and enjoyed learning as well as being great violin player. In fact, of her brothers, only 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱 was naturally mechanically minded. Being next to each other in age, they were close throughout childhood, and 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 was almost as good as him when it comes to understanding machinery. She enjoyed steering the steam yacht Fairy in all weathers and did so with the calmness of an adult. To her mother's chargin she was quite uninterested in her appearance, tying her hair back with an old piece of ribbon while she spent hours below deck, getting her hands covered with grease, learning exactly how steam worked. It was her father who championed her against teasing on account of her apparently unladylike, practical ways. 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 grew up to be one of the toughest, physically speaking, of the royal sisters. It was hardly surprising that sport appealed to her more than her work in the schoolroom. She was great at swimming and racing and even loved watching the boys playing football. With her deep voice and long striding gait, and her dislike of trailing around in long skirts, she longed to be an athlete, or at least to lead a more outdoor life. In the dramas and tableaux vivants which thé children often staged for their parents' amusement, Princess 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗮 generally took the part of a boy. On This Day In History 25 May 1846 . Princess Helena of the United Kingdom was born. . ◼ She was the third daughter & fifth child of the reigning British monarch, Queen Victoria, & her husband Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha. . . ◼ Helena had a firm interest in nursing, & became President of the British Nurses' Association (RBNA) upon its foundation in 1887. (2/2) . ◼ Princess Helena, third daughter & fifth child of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha,  married Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, son of Christian August, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein & Countess Luise Sophie von Danneskjold-Samsöe, on 5 July 1866 at Windsor Castle. . ◼ The couple spent the first night of their married life at Osborne House, before honeymooning in Paris, Interlaken and Genoa. . ◼ Helena & Christian were devoted to each other, & led a quiet life in comparison to Helena's sisters. Following their marriage, they took up residence at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park, the traditional residence of the Ranger of Windsor Great Park, the honorary position bestowed on Christian by the Queen. When staying in London, they lived at the Belgian Suite in Buckingham Palace. . ◼ The couple had six children: Christian Victor in 1867, Albert in 1869, & Princesses Helena Victoria & Marie Louise in 1870 & 1872 respectively. Their last two sons died early; Harald died eight days after his birth in 1876, & an unnamed son was stillborn in 1877. (1/2); . ◼ Princess Helena, third daughter & fifth child of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha,  married Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, son of Christian August, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein & Countess Luise Sophie von Danneskjold-Samsöe, on 5 July 1866 at Windsor Castle. . ◼ The Queen allowed the ceremony to take place at Windsor Castle, albeit in the Private Chapel rather than the grander St George's Chapel, & relieved her black mourning dress with a white mourning cap which draped over her back. . ◼ The main participants filed into the chapel to the sound of Beethoven's Triumphal March, creating a spectacle only marred by the sudden disappearance of Prince George, the Duke of Cambridge, who had a sudden gout attack. . ◼ Christian filed into the chapel with his two supporters, Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar & Prince Frederic of Schleswig-Holstein, & Helena was given away by her mother, who escorted her up the aisle with the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) & eight bridesmaids. . ◼ Christian looked older than he was, & one guest commented that Helena looked as if she was marrying an aged uncle. Indeed, when he was first summoned to Britain, he assumed that the widowed Queen was inspecting him as a new husband for herself rather than as a candidate for one of her daughters. . ◼ The princess wore a dress of rich white satin featuring deep flounces of Honiton lace, the design of which featured roses, ivy, & myrtle. Her headpiece was composed of orange blossom & myrtle, & the veil was also made of Honiton lace. The bride wore a necklace, earrings, & brooch of opals & diamonds, a wedding gift from the Queen. In 1883, Leopold became a father when his wife gave birth to a daughter, Alice. So...I sorta had a little idea “not to make plans” on my birthday eve. That’s all I knew... Having my birthday on Halloween Day has always been a PAIN - and - STRESS planning a party, invitations and guest because it’s always a conflict on Halloween Festivities.
