The difference between dry heat from my hometown and the soggy wet heat of Britain is dry heat doesn't make me angry
Dry heat at 98Ā°F/37Ā°C- *sitting in some some shade and have a cold drink and it's unpleasant but tolerable. Dressed in shirt and shorts* oof it's a kinda hot today. Some ice cream would be nice
Humid heat 77Ā°F/25Ā°C- *standing in the shade, sopping wet from sweat and wearing a wet cloth on my head in a move to not die and wearing only boxer shorts and a home made crop top* Im gonna kill the sun or die trying

Why does British heat act like itās life goal to to suffocate everyone. I canāt sleep yet Iām half asleep all the time and I wake up sweating and panting. Itās not gonna get any better at school where we donāt have AC because they hate us. Literally why I actually hate British heat. āItās not even that bad try 40Ā°C+ā I HAVE! I have LIVED in 40Ā°C+ environments and I can say with 100% certainty that British summers are the most excruciating experience. I would not wish this on anyone.

I keep seeing people from like. the South of the US making fun of British summer and saying we're weak and don't know real heat. and I keep defending brits bc like there is no AC, buildings are built to amplify and insulate heat, and its an island so its humid as hell. its truly miserable. but I'm starting to want to visit somewhere hot in the US during summer so I can get an actual comparison, bc what the hell it can't be That much worse

I may have had to take to my bed like a Victorian woman earlier today because I had heat exhaustion. We are too frail and delicate for this heat.

Vettonso complaining about each other not respecting schrondinger's track limits on the radio compilation + Seb's commentary that made me a bit feral
Must include these sexy ass pics okay, it makes me feral how hard they race each other.
Also SO upset that we got this vid and there's also pictures(and presumably a vid out there somewhere) of Fernando, back then, ALSO debriefing this race. And yet we never got them together?????? Evil. Fucked up.
Imagine seeing them complaining about each other but also having to (begrudgingly if you're Fernando) compliment each other IN FRONT of each other. Maybe its a good thing it doesn't exist, bcs then I'd have a heart attack.
#this is just a supercut of the f1 vid in the source so you should watch that as well :)#thank you boo to inadvertently pointing me towards this moment cause man it makes me insane#like the added context of knowing seb was just being bratty cause he KNEW fernando was heated on the radio is SO funny#fernando's radios....actually so feral#'give back the position IMMEDIATELY'#fernando i dont have the position but i will do my best to give it to you anyways#grrrrrrr theres smth about getting to see seb discuss such a vettonso hard racing moment#he clearly respects him š„¹#but even years on you can tell hes SO pleased abt how much he was irritating fernando#this is the kinda clip that makes me wish f1 had proximity chat#them both on the radio like 'does that idiot EVEN know what hes doing'#also the annoying confidence of seb on the radio saying its fernando's fault if he gets a punctuee#and not even mentioning the fact that he could get a puncture š#but again. to hear him complimenting Fernando really kills me#just about his spacial awareness and how seb feels like he can always race him to the limit bcs he TRUSTS him#like that is the true f1 romance to me. racing someone hard and complaining on the radio but +#admitting that you never rly felt in danger bcs you TRUST the other driver!!!!!!!#i love sassy angry radios. they both sound so........yeah. im unwell#f1#formula 1#sebastian vettel#fernando alonso#we do a little bit of f1#2014 british gp#vettonso

Advocates are calling for more regulation aroundĀ maximum temperaturesĀ in rental housing units. Some municipalities in B.C. have mandated minimum temperatures in rental homes but there are no existing rules for maximum heat levels. Following the heat dome in 2021, when more than 600 people died, extreme heat events have become a health issue as well as a housing one. Emily Rogers, the director of operations with Together Against Poverty, said it is time to look at how hot it has to be before a landlord must install something to keep the heat down. āThe burden of action should be on the landlord in terms of equal temperatures,ā she said, adding that could mean providing an air conditioner or fans. āAt the end of the day, itās the landlordās responsibility to provide a home that ās safe ā and that includes extreme heat.ā

what is it about a climate crisis happening in one part of the world that has people in a different part of the world with a different climate pattern going āoh that? thatās normal for us, donāt be a baby.ā yeah thatās why itās called climate change. if it was a normal climate pattern for them, then thereās no crisis because thereās no climate change.

It is not like they do not consistently have chocolate week during the hottest times of the summer. The heat has always been an issue during chocolate week. So itās not like itās a surprise. You are telling me after over a DECADE, they havenāt modified the tent to make it bearable?!! You have not put in measures for the BAKERS OWN COMFORT?!
It is at this point that it is jeopardizing their health!
Put in fans, put in air conditioning, give the bakers WATER, allow them to REST. Modify the challenges to account for this temperature inside the tent.
PUT THE BAKERS SAFETY FIRST.
I should not be seeing bright red bakers and bakers on the verge of fainting!
Bake Off HAS THE FUNDS!
Take some of the money off of Paul and Prueās paychecks and MODIFY THE FUCKING TENT.
Because I betchu that in the hottest days of the year, Paul and Prue are not feeling that heat one iota. They are in their trailers or inside a building and cool as a fucking cucumber.
Donāt deprive the bakers of that same accommodation.
To do otherwise after thirteen fucking years is perpetual, intentional negligence.
#gbbo#gbbo 2023#great british bake off#MODIFY THE TENT#PUT FANS#AIR CONDITIONING#GIVE THE BAKERS WATER#FREQUENT BREAKS#STOP JEOPARDIZING THEIR SAFETY AND THEIR HEALTH FOR CHOCOLATE#that for the record does not do well in the heat anyways so literally the status quo is not benefiting anyone#give their chocolate a chance and more importantly their well being#IT HAS BEEN THIRTEEN YEARS#GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER#I DO NOT WANT TO SEE BAKERS ON THE VERGE OF FAINTING#THIS IS A MANMADE ISSUE#FIX THE TEMPERATURE#itās not like it hasnāt been hot every fucking chocolate week#there is a pattern#that is predictable#make the necessary adjustments I swear#this is NEGLIGENCE at this point

If you were to look at the languages of Asia and Europe, you would see that many languages' word for tea is something like chai (Mandarin/Korean/Portuguese cha, Persian/Russian/Turkish chay, etc). It is repetitive to say "chai tea", even if chai does refer to a specific kind of tea. There is enough of a consistent difference between French tea and American or British tea to denote when tea is French, but nobody thinks thƩ tea is a legitimate phrase, and nobody would naturally think to use the phrase. There are people that see the French word thƩ's immediate linguistic proximity to the English word tea and recognize the redundancy there, but Francophones are also generally believed when they acknowledge a poor use of their language. Just because chai's linguistic proximity to the English word tea is less apparent to those who don't consider the presence of exchange between European and Asian languages doesn't mean chai tea isn't not repetitive and dismissive to Indians criticisms on Americans' use of the word chai
your bio says youāre southeast asian so Iām not going to tell you you canāt be critical of foreignersā use of a word from your region. But also anything I could say to defend my (really harmless I think??) take on chai as a loan word is overshadowed by the fact that itās now been two days of people reacting to that post and Iām tired. Many words enter other languages for various reasons and the way that other language folds them into itself is shaped by quirks of grammar, human communication, and that wordās purpose in its new language, not conscious disrespect. All languages have loan words in them that are used in ways that seem āstrangeā or āwrongā to native speakers of the language that word came from.
But I will say that I do not implicitly respect the French, and also if anyone asked me to make them āFrench style teaā Iād have no idea what they meant.
#catie talks#also isnāt the difference between english and american styles of tea justā¦ that americans make iced tea and the british donāt?#we prepare hot black tea the exact same ways#you put a tea bag in a cup on boiling water and add milk and sugar#after of course microwaving the water in the cup to heat it up#THESE LAST COUPLE TAGS ARE A JOKE TEA GANG PLEASE DONT COME FOR ME
