I'm going to be at the Lower Redland Road Market in Bristol on Sunday, May 26th from 12 - 6pm selling my sketchbooks!
I don't know how many of my followers are based in the UK, let alone Bristol, but if you're local please do come by and say hi and take some time to wander around and see works from a group of artists, makers and other creatives. It should be a lovely event :)
You can find out more at @ the_lower_redland_road_market on instagram

For Throwback Thursday, here is an ink drawing I did way back in 2017 for a month long drawing event. The theme of the day was "divided" and my first thought was The Woodsman from Over the Garden Wall.
#loaf art#over the garden wall#otgw#inktober#this was done with Micron pens on Bristol board (?)#I found this when I was cleaning my room earlier today and thought “Hey why not share it?”#fun fact: I was only able to make it to day 2 of the event (this drawing was from day 2)#hey look it's my first non dca art on this blog 0_0 What sorcery is this?!

https://href.li/?https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shadow-puppet-workshop-tickets-741132746997?aff=oddtdtcreator
Yes! Another Shadow Puppet Workshop! After an incredible success last winter I have decided to polish and tweak my shadow puppet workshop and offer it again! Please come on down and join us for some spooky shadowy fun!
I am Izzy B a freelance designer and maker of puppets based at Puppet Place on Bristol's Harborside, working mostly between the south-west of England, Atlanta Georgia and Denver Colorado.
Although I didn’t study puppetry until my late 20's, I have long seen them as an unmatched blend of character design and story-telling. My time on the Puppetry MA at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama gave me the opportunity to explore this incredible fusion, building on my roots in costume and production design. Since then have had the good fortune to learn an amazing variety of skills and build a strong professional artistic practice. It has been an intense and rewarding change, and I hope to share that experience with as many as possible.
Date: Saturday November 11th
Time: 10AM - 5PM
Fee: Adult - £40, Student - £30, Concession £30
Location: Puppet Place, Unite 18, Albion Dockside Estate, Hanover Place, Bristol BS1 6UT
In this six and a half hour course we will watch, build and play with shadow puppets on a variety of different screens and lighting rigs. Shadow puppetry is a versatile art that lends itself to cooperative play, so a workshop is an incredible way to become familiar with the craft for the first time or to expand an existing skill set.
We will start the day with a short session watching a variety of different kinds of shadow puppetry from around the world. But far more than just the traditional Indian of Balinese shadow puppets, we will be exploring the modern comedic stylings of Bunk Puppets out of Canada and the sentimental stories of the Stringpullers Puppet Company, along with many other artists that have taken this ancient art and done surprising things with it.
Next, we will develop the ideas or short stories that we want to bring to life with shadow puppetry, nothing complicated, this can be done in teams or as individuals.
At around 12:30 we will break for lunch, there are many delicious food options on Spike Island where Puppet Place is located. You will be left to your own delectable devices.
Once we are all back we will start building! I will supply you with paper, card, cord, dowels and all sorts to help build, but I would recommend bringing your own sketchbooks and pencils if you are artistically inclined. If you have a specific material you think could cast a cool shadow, bring it along and we may find a use for it! As a puppet fabricator first and foremost this is where I will be of the most use to you, if you have something that just isn't moving right feel free to grab me and I will see what we can do!
Starting at about 3 my puppetry assistant and I will start to help you puppeteer your creations and then we will finish with a short show of everyone's work throughout the day.

chapter 5, page 43
first - previous - next
[image description: an sac webcomic page. "fine" jade scowls. "fine!" lewis replies off panel. jade starts walking away, lewis slowly following. a long panel shows them still walking, then switching to lewis looking at his phone, while jade in the foreground still looks annoyed. lewis taps her on the shoulder with the back of his hand to get her attention. she turns to him, still annoyed. "hey" he says. end id]
i dont have any witty comments or insights for this page. i am however looking into making keychains and pins. i have limited ideas for pins, my usual manufacturer makes wooden pins up to 4cm in size which is too small for what designs i have already but i did get a couple cat designs for fun.
keychains i have the opposite problem where i have too many ideas for my budget. some are just my usual lgbt stuff and some are fanart because i have 2 anime/gaming cons in august. (also a couple other cons in late september!) but keychains are more expensive than stickers so i can't do them all (specifically i was going to do some spiderverse stuff but also the owl house and mha). one day ill probably do some sac merch but thats like, for future me with a bigger budget since oc stuff doesnt sell as well sadly.
anyway thats how my life's going. also i'm 25 now too i guess. i lied about no commentary for this page i got a new tablet from my parents and at first i was hesitant because my old one worked fine but then i tried my new one and was like holy shit this is what a good tablet feels like? because my old was a hand crampingly small cheap wacom with terrible pen pressure but i didnt like, realise that since all ive ever used were small cheap tablets. i feel like that naruto guy (rock lee i think) dropping his training weights. still adjusting though
#sac#someone always cares#webcomic#webcomics#original works#if anyonws curious the cons are animeleague's anime and gaming festival in london and birmingham in august#also pride comic art festival in bristol in september#and lakes international comic art festival in the lake district also in september#thankfully i dont need to book accomadation for 2 of those#but i do for the other 2. should really get around to doing that soon#should really post a “heres the events ill be at” thing on insta since people do that apparently?#im very bad at the pushing myself out there part of this#im good at being an artist but bad at being a content creator yknow?

Card Sharp: flashback to when comic creators delivered some ace playing card art for Childline
Back in 2001, 65 of the world’s leading comic book artists illustrated a deck of playing cards to raise money for the British charity, Childline
Back in 2001, 65 of the world’s leading comic book artists illustrated a deck of playing cards to raise money for the British charity, Childline. In 2018, we ran a feature on the project on downthetubes, only by accident discovering this weekend that the post had vanished from the site. So here’s a new version of the previous item, with some new imagery and additional links… The Fantastic Four…
