Keep feeding the fire to keep the beasts from the night ,descending upon us, I was told time and time again. That’s how it used to be ,that’s how darkness reign for millennia over our species feeding on us ,until we became the predators as well,a top of the food chain killing an eating each other at first then going after animals bigger and more deadly than us.Well, don’t be surprised there is cannibalism still being practiced around the world among many aboriginal people,in Africa , in Melanesia,in the New World .In isolated instances some mentally deranged people resort to that as well. Keep stoking the fire and I did . The night turn out to be uneventful and so when morning came ,went straight to my bed.Fire the greatest equalizer still transforms the planet into a life giver and a life taker. We have learned to use it to our advantage to create tools ,weapons ,to cook and to survive this hostile environment in which we live in .The interesting part these days is that with the advent of the internet we are seeing and discovering wild places in nature where there’s much danger of of humans becoming fodder for cryptids. Leaving aside conspiracy theories and government creating chimeras to reduce human population by means other than guns but playing god using gene manipulation and cloning techniques, scientists and the military are letting loose these creatures in National Park thus avoiding the responsibility of being blamed by the people claiming not knowing what these creatures are, believe what you will friends these tales circulating by a campfire are a sure way to scare campers ,hikers ,and day park visitors. Once again as our ancestors feared such predators ,we have indeed become part of this narrative. So, you go camping be aware of the new dangers of people disappearing every year without a clue as to what is snatching them away ,so yes, keep the fire going all night long and have someone keeping guard while the rest slumber away.Words by Sergio GuymanProust .

Lessons in Manliness from Bass Reeves _________________
It’s Never Too Late for a Man to Have a Second Act
Bass Reeves was born a slave in Arkansas in 1838. When the Civil War broke out, his white master joined the Confederate Army and took Reeves along to serve as his body servant. Reeves bided his time, until one night he saw an opening, laid out his master with his mighty fists, and took off for the hills a free man. He was taken in by the Keetoowah, an abolitionist sect of the Cherokee Nation.
When the war was over, he struck out on his own and settled with his family in Van Buren, Arkansas, making a good living as a farmer and horse breeder. He was the first black man to settle in Van Buren, and he built his family an eight room house with his own hands.
He started making some extra money by helping the U.S. Marshals with scouting and tracking and soon earned a reputation for himself as a man who knew what he was doing and could be relied upon.
He was commissioned as a Deputy U.S. Marshal in his own right in 1875, when he was 38 years old. During this time marshals were paid for the number of criminals brought in and the distance traveled in capturing them and bringing them back to court. With so many miles to cover in Indian Territory, and with his legendary effectiveness for tracking down wrong-doers, Reeves made a great living at his job. And so it was only as he was nearing 40 that he found his true calling.
Compensate for Weaknesses by Cultivating Signature Strengths
“My mom always said she heard that Bass was so tough he could spit on a brick and bust it in two!” -Willabelle Shultz, granddaughter of fellow marshal
Because he grew up a slave, Bass Reeves did not know how to read or write. Being an illiterate U.S. Marshal was highly unusual—the men needed to fill out forms and reports–but Bass got and kept his job by compensating for this weakness with other valuable strengths.
First, he could speak the Muskogee language of the Creeks and Seminoles, and he could also converse pretty well in the languages of the other Five Civilized Tribes. He took the time to get to know the tribes and their customs, and they respected him for it. His friendly and sterling reputation among Indians, blacks, and whites alike led folks to trust him and give him assistance and tips they didn’t feel comfortable sharing with other marshals.
Reeves knew Indian Territory like the back of his hand, and his scouting and tracking skills were second to none.
But his most notable strength was his prowess with firearms. He carried two big .45 caliber six-shooters and wore them with their handles facing forward. He employed the cross-handed draw, as he believed it was the fastest way for a man to grab his guns. And indeed, he was known as a man who could draw with lightning fast speed; numerous men tried to beat him, and 14 of them died in the attempt.
But unlike what you see in movies, cowboys in the West did not rely on their pistols; those were their back-up firearms. A cowboy’s weapon of choice was his trusty Winchester rifle, and that was the gun Reeves used most. But he was a proficient marksman with both weapons. Ambidextrous and always cool under pressure, Reeves could fire an accurate shot with pistol or rifle, with his left hand or his right. It was said he could draw “a bead as fine as a spider’s web on a frosty morning” and “shoot the left hind leg off of a contended fly sitting on a mule’s ear at a hundred yards and never ruffle a hair.”
Turkey shoot competitions were popular at territorial fairs and picnics, but Reeves was banned from entering them because he was too darn good. Once, when he saw 6 wolves tearing at a steer, he took them all out with just 8 shots from the back of a galloping horse.
The Mind Is Just as Powerful a Weapon as the Gun
“If Reeves were fictional, he would be a combination of Sherlock Holmes, Superman, and the Lone Ranger.” -Historian Art Burton
Despite Bass’ legendary strength and prowess with firearms, he didn’t simply go after criminals with guns and fists blazing. Rather, he took a far slower, methodical, and ultimately more effective approach. He was an intuitive and quick-thinking detective who often got his man from being smart and crafty.
Reeves was a master of disguise, a tactic he used to sneak up on unsuspecting outlaws. They would undoubtedly see a giant black man on a giant horse coming for them, so when Bass was closing in on a man, he would switch to a smaller ride, and he learned tricks from the Indians on how to look smaller in the saddle.
And often he would ditch the horse all together. For example, one time he dressed like a farmer and lumbered along in a ramshackle wagon pulled by old oxen. He drove the wagon close to a cabin where six outlaws where holed up, and as he passed their hide out, he pretended to get the wagon snagged on a large tree stump. When the outlaws came out to help this humble farmer, he coolly reached into his overalls, drew out his six-shooters, and placed the men under arrest.
On another occasion, Reeves was after two outlaws who were hiding out at their mother’s house. Reeves camped 28 miles away to be sure they didn’t see him coming or hear he was in the area. Then he ditched his marshal duds and stashed his handcuffs and six-shooters under a set of dirty, baggy clothes, flat shoes, and a large floppy hat into which he shot three bullet holes. Dressed like a typical tramp, Reeves sauntered up to the felons’ hideout and asked for something to eat, showing them his bullet-ridden hat and explaining how he had been shot at by marshals and was famished from having walked for miles to flee the law. Having ingratiated himself as a fellow outlaw, the men ate together and decided to join forces on a future heist. After everyone had fallen asleep for the night, Reeves crept up to the two outlaws and handcuffed them in their sleep, careful not to wake them. In the morning, Reeves bounded into the room and woke them up with his booming voice, “Come on, boys, let’s get going from here!” As the men tried to get out bed, they quickly realized they’d been had by crafty old Bass Reeves.
Be Reliable–The Details Matter
Even though he was a tough-as-nails badass, locals also remembered Reeves as a man known for his “politeness and courteous manner” and as someone who was “kind,” “sympathetic,”  and “always neatly dressed.” He was also a man who took pride in getting the details right.
Reeves was unable to read or write and yet part of his job was to write up reports on his arrests and serve subpoenas to witnesses. So when he had to write a report, he would dictate to someone else and sign with an “X.” When he would get a stack of subpoenas to serve to different people, he would memorize the names like symbols and have people read the subpoenas out loud to him until he memorized what symbol went with what subpoena.
He took great pride in the fact that he never once served the wrong subpoena to the wrong person. In fact, many of the courts specially requested that their subpoenas be served by Reeves because he was so reliable.
Keep Cool. Always.
“Reeves was never known to show the slightest excitement under any circumstance. He does not know what fear is. Place a warrant for arrest in his hands and no circumstance can cause him to deviate. ” –Oklahoma City Weekly Times-Journal, 1907
Bass Reeves had an uncanny ability to stay calm and cool, even when he was in a really tight spot.
He found himself in that kind of tight spot while looking to arrest a murderer, Jim Webb, who was hanging out with posseman Floyd Smith at a ranch house. Reeves and his partner moseyed up, tried to pull the old, “we’re just regular cowboys passing through” trick, and sat down to get some breakfast. But the two men weren’t buying it and sat glaring at the marshals, pistols at the ready in their hands. An hour went by and Reeves and his partner still didn’t have an opening to make a move on the outlaws. But when Webb was momentarily distracted by a noise outside, Reeves jumped up, wrapped his large hand around Webb’s throat, and shoved his Colt .45 in the surprised man’s face. Webb meekly surrendered. Reeves’ partner was supposed to jump in and grab Smith, but he froze. Smith fired two shots at Reeves; he dodged them both, and with his hand still around Webb’s neck, he turned and took Smith out with one shot. Then he ordered his partner to handcuff Webb and called it a day.
Reeves was the target of numerous assassination attempts but he often saved his own neck by staying completely calm and in control. One time, he met two men out riding who knew who he was and wanted him dead. They drew their guns and forced him off his horse. One of the men asked if Reeves had any last words, and Bass answered that he would really appreciate it if one of them could read him a letter from his wife before finishing him off. He reached into his saddlebag for the letter and handed it over. As soon as the would-be-assassin reached for the letter, Bass put one of his hands around the man’s throat, used his other hand to draw his gun, and said, “Son of a bitch, now you’re under arrest!” The outlaw’s partner was so surprised he dropped his gun, and Reeves put both men in chains.
Another time, Reeves faced a similar situation; this time three wanted outlaws forced him from his horse and were about to do him in. He showed them the warrants he had for their arrest and asked them for the date, so he could jot it down for his records when he turned the men into jail. The leader of the group laughed and said,“You are ready to turn in now.” But having dropped his guard for just a second, Reeves drew his six-shooter as fast as lightning and grabbed the barrel of the man’s gun. The outlaw fired three times, but Reeves again dodged the bullets. At the same time, and with his hand still around the barrel of the first man’s gun, he shot the second man, and then hit the third man over the head with his six-shooter, killing him. All in a day’s work for Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves.
Build a Bridge
When Reeves was appointed a marshal by Judge Parker, the judge reminded him that “he would be in a position to serve as a deputy to show the lawful as well as the lawless that a black man was the equal of any other law enforcement officer on the frontier.”
Bass took this responsibility seriously.
Black law enforcement officers were a rarity in other parts of the country, but more common in Indian Territory and surrounding states like Texas. In fact, despite Hollywood’s depiction of the Old West as lily white, 25% of cowboys in Texas were African-American.
Because of the reputation Bass earned as a marshal who was honest, effective, and doggedly persistent–the Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal of the Western District, Bud Ledbetter, called Bass, “one of the bravest men this country has ever known”–more black marshals were hired in Indian Territory; a couple dozen were part of the service during Bass’ tenure. Nowhere else in the country could a black man arrest a white man. Bass had paved the way, and done one of the manliest things a man can do—build a bridge and a legacy for others to follow.
Sadly, when Oklahoma became a state in 1907, it instituted Jim Crow laws that forced black marshals out of the service. Despite his legendary record as a deputy marshal, Reeves had to take a job as a municipal policeman in the town of Muskogee the year before he died. But his shining example of manhood cannot so easily be passed over and still speaks to us today.

Note
reporting in to send the ask for what each of the shepherds carry in their packs 🫡 blade gets tapped for a what’s in my purse vlog and the video is just a knife. and a knife. and a knife. and a knife—
Thank you for your service 🫡
Out in the field, if you were to grab a pack and rummage through it, only to find it wasn't yours, you'd find the following (excludes the standard field kit for Shepherd officers, which includes a bedroll, a tent/tarp, blanket, canteen, soap, toiletries, various changes of clothes, equipment to care for horses/ahfuri, mess kit with eating utensils and tin plates and etc., and the obvious standards like money and etc.):
Blade: a sturdy, rigorously-organized, plain and utilitarian pack containing: fire-starting tools (flint, steel, and tinder). utility/hunting knife (for things like cutting rope, skinning deer and fish, etc). dagger (for emergencies. in case the ones he keeps on his person are taken away from him). small portable writing set (comes with a flat, collapsible tablet that serves as a writing desk, ink, parchment, and pen) for composing letters/orders/messages to send home. emergency first aid (minimalist: basically consists of a bottle of alcohol for sterilization, needle and medical thread for stitches, and some clean bandages). dried meat or jerky, hardtack biscuits (emergency rations). small cooking pot. whetstone (for sharpening his weapons). fishing hook and twine. hawking whistle. maps. rope. various small utility tools.
Trouble: a battered, worn and stained rucksack containing: fire-starting tools. charch and matches. various snacks and extra rations (trail mix, etc.). cubes of fat and bullion or various seasonings for meals. small cooking pot. extra ammunition (a lot of it). tools to maintain and clean his firearms. utility/hunting knife. rain-proof cover (can be used for himself or his rifle). extra gloves and socks. whatever novel he's currently reading. explosives (😳), various tools to create distractions (smoke grenades, etc.). signaling mirror. compass. timepiece. dice. playing cards. insect repellent salve. maybe fishing hook and twine if he expects to be "roughing" it for a long time! spyglass.
Tallys: a clean, well-maintained leather bag with Elvish adornments containing: large kit containing several different vials of various elixirs, tinctures, oils, and extracts (serve different purposes like reviving the unconscious, numbing pain, putting someone to sleep, etc.) as well as various different powders and dried herbs (some are poisonous, as Chase had the misfortune of discovering when he snooped too much); teabags; map; Elvish animal whistle (used for various purposes: as an animal or bird lure, for communicating while hunting or in camouflage, as a distraction); tifin (small Elvish flute) if she thinks she's going to be away for a really long time; Elvish hunting knife; kit of wax, resin, twine, and whittling knife to maintain her bow and arrows; first aid kit; woven Elvish mat (often used for meditation and dawn prayer rites, but can be used just for sitting more comfortably on things, as a lap blanket, or even as a scarf/shawl for extra warmth); small empty containers for foraging and protecting things like berries, mushrooms, leaves, etc.; Elvish field guide describing the various uses of flora and local plant matter; Elvish calendar and daily book of proverbs to keep track of the days (also doubles as a brief journal); pen; fire-starting kit.
Shery: Shery doesn't actually embark on missions into the field and actually has never left Haven (unless you're reading her latest short story on Patreon, lol), so the contents of her pack are at the moment hypothetical! Because of her inexperience, I'd guess that she'd both err on extreme overcaution and overpacking and also make some impractical choices, like bringing too many books, outfits for all kinds of weather, a parasol, a sewing kit, a little stuffed animal for good luck, a teapot, a nail file, an extra blanket and a fluffy pillow, and things like that! But she'd also have sensible choices, too, just way too many of them!
Riel: when he goes on business trips he typically has a whole trunk of things with him LOL but if forced to come along on a field mission, my guess would be that he'd mostly bring different changes of clothes, his hygiene and toiletries kit (complete with hair pomade, cologne, and fresh handkerchiefs), and then would just assume/rely on gold getting him whatever else he needed 😂😂 Actually he'd also certainly pack a valise with whatever current documents or contracts he's been working on, plenty of stationary and ink, a notepad for taking notes, a foldable writing desk, books, and whatever proof he'd need of being (at that time) Master of Merchants Guild, like his official stamps and wax seals and whatnot. Basically whatever he'd need for doing work on the road! 😂 Oh, he'd also pack a gun. Just in case!
Chase: a deceptively-slim, innocuous rucksack that is surprisingly hard to open if you're not familiar with it, containing: several lockpick sets. a bottle of alcohol to bribe informants with (or light a fire, sanitize a wound, what have you). rope. file. utility knife. whetstone. extra ammunition. fire-starting kit. tools to maintain his firearms. charch. playing cards. whatever book he's currently struggling through as homework. various shiny trinkets that can be traded, bargained, bribed, or used as a distraction. devices used as distractions (flashbags, smoke grenades, low-level explosives). grooming kit with comb, pomade, cologne, mirror, etc. scarf (can be used as a fashion accessory, mask to obscure lower half of face, or, in a pinch, as a method of strangling someone 🙂). wire (don't ask). mysterious vials (could be poison, could be acid to burn through locks). different accessories, clothes, and wig for different disguises. special gripped shoes for climbing and capering. small grappling hook. net/bolas (typically used to trip opponents up or rig traps). recently-acquired reed harp (harmonica) that he uses to amuse/torture teammates with.
Red: a slim, casually-packed, strangely collegiate bag (he generally travels light because he cheats and conjures most of what he needs as he needs it), containing: whatever book he's currently reading. field journal and writing implements. foldable writing desk. scroll container to protect any precious documents or papers he might come across. various Mage-y implements like chalk, lyme, certain compounds that help with arcane magic and drawing runes. measuring ruler. various charged lodestones and keystones. maps. compass. grooming kit for his endless hair needs 😳 (pomade, comb, mirror, etc.). multi-use mini game board (you can play various games on it like Elements, checkers, sui, etc.). small containers for collecting specimens. travel lantern (for exploring ruins without having to deal with a guttering torch flame). insect repellant salve. salve for burns and aches. magnifying glass. small flat cushion for sitting/laying on if the ground is extremely lumpy.
Ayla: a carelessly battered, fraying rucksack with small carved totems dangling from it, containing: backup canteens of water (emergency only). collapsible trowel to dig holes (generally to dig up roots, tubers, or to find water). maps. compass. sundial. lots and lots of rations (the majority of her pack will contain non-perishable food). sewing kit (doubles both as first aid and for emergency repairs to clothes). colored twine (primarily used to mark trails so you don't get lost, demarcate certain things you'll need to find again later, and also doubles as a Jalis hand-game to play with another person when bored). playing cards. dice. rope. hunting/utility knife. lockpick set. sun lotion (to protect the skin). extra tarp (to erect emergency lean-to/rain shelter/shade; doubles as emergency extra blanket). file. hairties for her braid. jade stone from her parents. slingshot/leather thong to hurl rocks with (this is a deadly weapon in her hands). signaling mirror. survival whistle. small torch. fire-starting kit. whittling knife for when she's bored and wants to carve things into her staff or just out of hunks of wood. field guide telling her what's safe to eat and what's not. jalis rattle (sort of like maracas: it's a small wooden cylinder filled with dry rice) in case she's in the mood to provide a rhythm to someone else's music.
Briony: a fat, cheerful pack with many charms and souvenirs dangling from every strap, containing: a field journal/sketchbook full of sketches, drawing/writing implements. a hairbrush. haphazard grooming case (eyelash curler, a bit of blush, no mirror). fingerless gloves. her latest book. extra hair ties/hair ribbons. oils and rags to maintain her armor. whetstone. fire-starter kit. maps and compass. some snacks, but typically she forgets about them. fishing hook and twine. headscarf to conceal her hair if need be. field encyclopedia/traveler's guide (more about various landmarks and places of interest she might see than survivalist tips). first-aid kit (used more than most to deal with small scrapes and wounds). hunting/utility knife. spare dagger. stargazing map. spyglass. pouch full of pretty rocks or dried flowers she picks up along the way. spellbook full of spells she's learning/practicing along the way.
Lavinet: an expensive but practical and well-made leather saddlebag containing: compact maquillage and grooming case (hairbrush, lipstick, mirror, perfume, hair conditioner, etc.). extra riding gloves. extra handkerchiefs. whetstone, tools to maintain her lance and sword. tools to maintain her saddlery. horse treats. fur throw that doubles as small extra blanket, extra warmth as a shawl, or as a cushion to sit on. extra pair of riding boots in case one set fails. Naveen signet ring and official accoutrements. writing set, desk, and seal. current book. hat to shade her head from the sun. sewing kit and patches of fabric to repair clothes. first aid manual. wax (has various uses, but she primarily uses it to plug her ears if she absolutely needs to). fire-starting kit. chainmail that can be concealed under the clothes. stiletto knife. corset (you never know, darling!)
Halek: an ordinary, standard pack containing: tools for weapons maintenance (for his spear). small compact bow and quiver. hunting/utility knife. exorcist dagger. recipe book and culinary guide regarding exotic ingredients or places of interest. various ingredients he picks up in towns or foraging in the wild. cooking oil, seasonings and spices, emergency salt, cubes of fat and bullion and stock, dried herbs, dried meat and cheese, flour. water-proof, heavy cloak for winter travel (also doubles as an extra blanket, as the standard-issue one might be too short for him). collar to suppress his blood-rage if need be. fire-starting kit. elk treats. small bell to tie to his elk in case he needs to. twine. grappling hook and rope. maps and compass. herbal teas. fishing hook. animal bait and snares. bear repellant. cooking pot and small frying pan. sand (used to scrub pots and pans when water is scarce or frozen). signal whistle. special snow boots if traveling through snow.

if you have the funds, purchase physical copies of your favorite media. books/shows/films. get em at the bargain bin or at a thrift store or off ebay/fb marketplace
download your favorite fics. keep a backup of the backup on a simple usb stick (lots of them have a bit on the end that can go on a keychain so you can keep them grouped together!)
get jdownloader 2 (it's safe and I use the free version regularly with no issues) and make backups of your comfort videos from yt or anywhere else you watch them. anything that brings you joy or anything that's thought provoking or meaningful to you (you'll probably need an external hard drive if you want to store a lot of these)
look into VPNs and find one that suits your needs, both financial and the ways you use the internet in general. surfshark is $2 USD a month, for reference
if you're a person of color and/or queer in any way, and you again have the funds, please consider going after your HQL and conceal carry permit while your right to do so is still uncontested. often, you can obtain this through contacting guys (legitimately, just guys, individuals often are certified instructors) and spending 1 weekend--saturday taking a class on firearm safety, and sunday at a range for actual, practical training
and all exclusionary rhetoric in the queer community needs to die, now. more than ever we need to understand it's Us (all queers, all people of color, all disabled folk, ANY AND ALL) vs The People Who Don't Even See Us As Human Beings
we need to be looking out for each other. we need to come together in love and compassion. we need to preserve our history and our media and the things that make us happy, the things that bring us comfort. I love you all and the only way we get through this is together, especially when the going gets rough

10 Essential Hunting Gear Items to Bring on Your Florida Trophy Outfitters Adventure
Planning your next hunting adventure with Florida Trophy Outfitters? Whether you're a seasoned hunter or heading out for your first trip, having the right gear can make all the difference. Florida’s unique terrain and climate present their own challenges, so it's essential to be well-prepared. To ensure you have the best experience possible, we’ve put together a list of 10 must-have hunting gear items for your Florida adventure.
Pack your bags, double-check your gear, and get ready for an unforgettable hunting experience in the Sunshine State!
1. Reliable Firearm or Bow
The most important piece of equipment on your hunt is your weapon of choice. Whether you prefer a rifle, shotgun, or bow, make sure it is well-maintained and sighted in before your trip. Choose a firearm that you are comfortable and experienced with, as this will ensure accuracy and confidence when it matters most.
Pro Tip: Consider the type of game you’ll be hunting with Florida Trophy Outfitters. A rifle with a .270 or .30-06 caliber is ideal for deer, while a shotgun with slugs can be used for wild hogs. If you’re after alligators, a bow with heavy draw weight or a powerful rifle will be necessary.
2. Ammunition or Arrows
Be sure to bring plenty of ammunition or arrows for your hunt. Double-check the regulations for your hunting area to ensure you're carrying the right type and amount of ammo. For bowhunters, pack extra arrows, broadheads, and other necessary accessories.
Pro Tip: Bring more than you think you need. It's better to have a few extra rounds or arrows than to run out at a crucial moment.
3. Hunting License and Permits
Don’t forget to carry your hunting license and any necessary permits with you. Make sure your licenses are up to date and appropriate for the type of game you plan to hunt. Florida has specific regulations for hunting alligators, wild hogs, deer, and other game, so double-check with Florida Trophy Outfitters to ensure you’re compliant.
Pro Tip: Store your licenses in a waterproof case or ziplock bag to keep them safe and easily accessible throughout your trip.
4. Comfortable Camouflage Clothing
Florida’s terrain can be tough, and the weather can change quickly. Camouflage clothing will help you blend into your surroundings and avoid detection by your prey. Choose lightweight, breathable, and moisture-wicking materials that will keep you comfortable throughout the day.
Pro Tip: Pack layers, even if it’s warm. Mornings can be chilly, and you’ll want to adjust your clothing as the temperature rises. Consider bringing a camouflage rain jacket in case of sudden rain.
5. Sturdy, Waterproof Boots
Navigating Florida’s diverse terrain can take you through swamps, fields, and thick brush, so a pair of sturdy, waterproof boots is a must. Make sure your boots are comfortable, broken in, and offer good ankle support to prevent injuries.
Pro Tip: Opt for boots with anti-slip soles to maintain traction on wet or uneven surfaces. This will help you move more quietly and safely through the hunting grounds.
6. Backpack or Hunting Pack
A good-quality hunting backpack is essential for carrying your gear, snacks, water, and any other necessities. Look for a pack that is lightweight, durable, and has multiple compartments to keep everything organized. You’ll want easy access to your essentials without digging through your pack.
Pro Tip: Choose a backpack with hydration bladder compatibility, so you can stay hydrated without needing to stop and dig out a water bottle.
7. Binoculars and Rangefinder
Being able to spot your target from a distance is key, especially in Florida's dense vegetation. A pair of high-quality binoculars will help you scout for game without getting too close, while a rangefinder will ensure your shot is accurate by calculating the distance to your target.
Pro Tip: Invest in waterproof and fog-proof binoculars to ensure clear vision, regardless of weather conditions. A rangefinder with a built-in ballistic calculator can also help adjust your aim for elevation and distance.
8. Knife and Multi-Tool
A sharp hunting knife is a must for field dressing, skinning, and other tasks you may encounter on your trip. Additionally, a multi-tool can be incredibly useful for everything from cutting rope to tightening screws.
Pro Tip: Make sure your knife is sharp and durable. Pack a sharpening tool if you plan on being out for multiple days. Consider bringing a small hatchet if you anticipate needing to clear brush or prepare campfires.
9. Game Calls and Scents
Depending on the type of game you're hunting, game calls and scents can be a game-changer. Using the right call will help you attract animals by mimicking their sounds, while scents can mask your presence or draw in your target.
Pro Tip: Learn to use your game calls before your hunt. Practice makes perfect, and you don’t want to scare off game with unfamiliar sounds. Florida Trophy Outfitters can offer advice on which calls and scents work best for local wildlife.
10. Safety Gear (First Aid Kit and Flashlight)
Safety should always be a top priority when hunting. Make sure to pack a first aid kit with basic supplies like bandages, antiseptics, and pain relievers. A flashlight or headlamp is essential if you plan on hunting during low-light conditions or finding your way back to camp after dark.
Pro Tip: Consider a waterproof headlamp with extra batteries, so you can keep your hands free while navigating through the terrain or field dressing game in the dark.

Gear Up for Success: Essential Equipment Every Hunter Needs
Hunting is a time-honored tradition that requires skill, patience, and the right equipment. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, having the proper gear is crucial for a successful and safe hunting experience. This guide will walk you through the essential hunting gear you need to ensure your next hunt is both successful and enjoyable.
The Right Firearm and Ammunition
The cornerstone of any hunt is your choice of firearm. The type of game you're hunting will determine the most appropriate firearm. For instance, a rifle is typically used for giant game like deer or elk, while a shotgun is often preferred for birds or small game. Ensure that your firearm is well-maintained and that you are familiar with its operation.
Along with your firearm, selecting the correct ammunition is equally essential. The caliber or gauge of your ammunition should match the type of game you're hunting. It's also wise to bring extra rounds, as you never know when you might need them.
Optics: Binoculars and Scopes
Good optics can make the difference between spotting your target and missing it. Binoculars are indispensable for scanning large areas and identifying potential games from a distance. Look for binoculars with a magnification that suits the terrain and environment where you'll be hunting.
In addition to binoculars, a reliable scope for your firearm is essential. A high-quality scope will provide you with the precision needed to make accurate shots, especially at long distances. Make sure to zero your scope before heading out to the field to ensure it's properly aligned with your firearm.
Proper Clothing and Footwear
Your choice of clothing can significantly impact your comfort and safety during the hunt. Dressing in layers is advisable, as it allows you to adjust to varying weather conditions. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat off your skin, followed by insulating layers to retain body heat. Finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to protect against the elements.
Camo patterns are essential for blending into your environment, but make sure your clothing is also quiet to avoid alerting the game to your presence. Your footwear should be sturdy, waterproof, and appropriate for the terrain. Invest in quality hunting boots that provide ankle support and keep your feet warm and dry.
Hunting Pack and Essentials
A well-organized hunting pack is vital for carrying all your gear and ensuring you have what you need when you need it. Your pack should include essentials like:
Water: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during long hunts. A hydration bladder or water bottles are recommended.
Food: Energy bars, trail mix, or other portable snacks will keep your energy levels up.
First Aid Kit: Accidents can happen, so a first aid kit is a must-have for treating minor injuries.
Navigation Tools: A GPS device, map, and compass will help you navigate unfamiliar terrain.
Game Calls: Depending on your target, having the appropriate calls can attract the game and increase your chances of a successful hunt.
Survival Gear
In addition to your hunting pack, having survival gear on hand is a good practice, especially if you're hunting in remote areas. Essential survival items include:
Firestarter: Whether it's waterproof matches, a lighter, or a ferro rod, having a way to start a fire is crucial for warmth and signaling.
Shelter: If you need to spend an unexpected night outdoors, a compact tarp or emergency bivvy can provide shelter.
Knife: A good hunting knife is essential for a field dressing game, but it's also useful for a wide range of tasks, from cutting rope to preparing food.
Multi-tool: A multi-tool with pliers, screwdrivers, and other features can be invaluable in various situations.
Scent Control Products
Animals have a keen sense of smell, and minimizing your scent can be the difference between success and failure. Scent control products, such as sprays, soaps, and laundry detergents, are designed to reduce human odors that can alert the game to your presence. Use these products on your clothing and gear, and consider using scent-blocking garments for added effectiveness.
Safety Gear
Safety should always be a top priority when hunting. In addition to your firearm safety, you should wear blaze-orange clothing to make yourself visible to other hunters. This is especially important during firearm season, when visibility is critical to preventing accidents.
Another essential safety item is a communication device, such as a two-way radio or a satellite phone, especially if you're hunting in areas with no cell service. Letting someone know your hunting location and estimated return time is also a good safety practice.
Game Processing Equipment
Once you've successfully harvested the game, the next step is processing it. A set of game processing tools, including knives, bone saws, and game bags, will help you field dress and transport your game efficiently. If you're hunting larger animals, consider bringing a game cart or sled to help with the heavy lifting.
Hunting is a rewarding experience that combines the thrill of the chase with the beauty of nature. By equipping yourself with the essential gear listed above, you'll not only increase your chances of a successful hunt but also ensure your safety and comfort. Whether you're stalking deer in the woods or hunting birds in the field, being prepared with the right gear is the key to a memorable and successful hunting adventure.

Best OWB Kydex Holster: Top 5 Reviews 2023
Tumblr media
The best OWB Kydex holster gives gun owners plenty of benefits. One, it offers them fast and quick access to their firearms. When you use OWB Kydex holsters, you don’t need to worry about drawing your weapon quickly because it secures your gun outside the garment unlike IWB holsters.
Tumblr media
OWB holsters are also useful for concealed carry depending on the selected design. But if you prefer open carry, outside the waistband Kydex holsters also are advantageous because they can be worn on your side and anyone with a bad intention will have to think twice because they can easily see your firearm on your hip. Outside the waistband Kydex OWB holsters also offer all-day comfort even if you’re on the bigger side of life. Also, keeping a larger gun will be much more comfortable with these holsters than with an inside the waistband tactical holster. OWB holsters also allow you to wear yours in several positions, making it really flexible and convenient to use. To find the right Kydex OWB holster for you, we’ve prepared a buying guide featuring the top OWB holsters in the category. Keep reading and make a better decision later.
What type of material for holsters?
Whether you’re shopping around for IWB holsters or OWB holsters, shoulder holsters, modern concealed carrier, IWB carry holsters, or a competition holster, or open or concealed carry holsters, you must consider the material that often has to do with comfort and durability. The most common choices for a holster material are leather, Kydex, and nylon. Each has its pros and cons, so you should weigh these well when thinking about the material for your OWB holster. The following are a basic comparison of these holster materials. Kydex Kydex, a brand of polymer/plastic, is a popular and easily moldable material that can be made into the specific shape of the gun for the right fit. This is why you should check your handgun model before picking a Kydex holster unless you’re buying a universal holster that fits different gun types. This Kydex material for your OWB holster retains their shape over time unlike some leather holsters. It is also lightweight and less expensive compared to OWB leather holsters. That is why it is more preferred by those who have just started to invest on their first holster or are not yet ready to buy a more expensive leather holster. Kydex doesn’t also require breaking in when compared to leather holsters. If you would select an Kydex holster, you also don’t need to worry about buying creams or lotions to maintain it. All you might have to do is to wipe it down if it’s dirty. Without even saying, maintenance is not a problem with Kydex OWB holsters. Most of the time, all you need to do is to wipe it with clean cloth to bring back its appeal. However, drawing from Kydex/plastic can be a bit noisy and might wear against your gun’s finish. It might result in scratches to it if you don’t buy the right Kydex holster for your specific gun model. Leather  Leather outside the waistband holsters are classic looking and feeling holsters that have been the standard for many gun owners for their appeal, resiliency, and durability. Over time, these best owb holsters can also form to the wearer’s body.  It is also easier to draw from a leather holstering device than from a plastic holster and is also quieter. Leather, nevertheless, is still a favorite among many gun owners for these benefits and its classic appeal. On the downside, OWB leather holsters may offer lesser support as time goes by. Sweat may also be a problem when it comes in contact with your skin. Leather also requires upkeep to maintain its integrity and nice appearance. Nylon Nylon is another material used in the manufacture of OWB holsters, typically the cheap ones. It is known for its durability, and most of the time, holsters with this material are built with hook and loop fasteners, allowing for quick customization in the manner of carrying one. You’ll also find nylon holsters that typically have a stiffener to keep its shape.  Nylon, as the material, also makes a cheaper, or maybe even the cheapest holster. Nylon holsters are also commonly a universal OWB holster, meaning not custom fit for a firearm. Moreover, it offers less structural integrity that translates to less security. So if you’re buying an OWB holster, I recommend going for either Kydex or leather, and stay away from nylon holsters.
Is Kydex good for OWB holster?
Yes, outside the waistband Kydex holsters are good holsters provided you buy yours from a reputable brand that minds the performance of their holsters, like a quality OWB competition holster. For example, the best OWB pancake holster can offer superior durability that ensures your holster will last almost a lifetime. A Kydex holster, either an IWB holster or an OWB holster, is also resistant to the elements, temperature changes, heat, and pressure. It can incredibly retain its shape and offer consistent performance no matter what and even as years go by. In addition, an OWB paddle holster is also lightweight and typically has a low and slim profile, preventing printing issues. And as it isn’t bulky or heavy, wearing it for many hours will still be comfortable. Because it’s also molded to your specific firearm model, it is neither loose nor tight for your gun. A quality Kydex holster is designed and made to conform to your gun’s dimensions, ensuring a custom and snug fit. Kydex paddle holster or any type of holster made of this material is also tough and resistant to chemicals and water. It doesn’t deform and collapse, ensuring that single-handed re-holstering would be easy.  It can keep its shape and offer consistent performance, too. And if you’ve chosen ankle holsters, a great OWB holster will offer that better rigidity.

How to Conceal Carry in Formal Wear
Tumblr media
The next time you have a critical business meeting or special event, you may want to think about how you'll bring your firearm along for protection. If you're planning to conceal carry in formal wear, it's important to choose the right carrying method to ensure that your firearm is easily accessible and secure. One option to consider is a hip carry bag. This type of bag is worn around the midriff or waist and can be easily hidden under a jacket or other clothing.
When choosing a hip carry bag, you need to think about the size and weight of your firearm. You'll want a bag that is large enough to comfortably fit your firearm, but not so large that it looks bulky or out of place. You'll also want to consider the material of the bag. Look for something that is durable, but can fit in well with your formal attire.
Once you've chosen a hip carry bag, it's important to practice using it before wearing it to a formal event. This will help you move easily with the feel and weight of the bag, and ensure that you can easily access your firearm if necessary. You'll also want to practice drawing your firearm from the bag to ensure that you can do so smoothly and quickly.
When wearing your hip carry bag to a formal event, it's important to consider where you'll be carrying it. You'll want to choose a position that is comfortable and allows for easy access to your firearm. Some people find that carrying the bag on the side opposite their dominant hand is the most comfortable and convenient option. You'll also want to ensure that your clothing is not too tight or restrictive, as this can make it difficult to access your firearm.
With a little planning and practice, you can confidently and discreetly conceal carry in formal wear.

Leading him inside, she gathered a glass for each of them before stopping dead in her tracks. "A gun? Jaxon Rogers, are you crazy?" she exclaimed, surprised that he would bring such a thing into her home. Esme knew it was common for people to carry firearms but she didn't want them anywhere near unborn children. Including their child. "I don't want a gun near us, me. You know what I mean."

Jaxon glanced over his shoulder as some sort of extra precaution and followed the midwife into her home. The place was exactly as he remembered it, elegant and welcoming, but he did feel a strange sense of unease knowing that she was there all by herself. It was a thought that he had never had before, probably because there weren't murderers in the loose back then. "..eh, yeah, I'd love a drink, actually.." he said with a smile as they crossed into Esme's living area. Rogers turned around, standing at the centre of the room and grabbed the leather case he had brought, ready to show her what it was. "..so I know it's probably not very romantic but..I got you a gun."
