Note
hi i’m very very new to the community and just trying to figure myself out! do you have any general resources for people new to the therian/alterhuman community?
also, do you have tips for a mourning dove, whitetail deer, or general feline and canine tips? sorry if that’s too much you can just do one if you want
thank you and no pressure!
(from @it-might-be-a-creature)
Hi and welcome to our community! 𖡼𖤣𖥧𖡼𓋼𖤣
To find reliable information on alter/nonhumanity, I recommend the Youtube channel of therian territory and pink dolphin, I find it very interesting.
You can also search the therian wiki/otherkin wiki/alterhuman wiki, but take this information with a grain of salt, as some information may be wrong, missing, or even completely invented. But generally it's pretty decent.
Therian guide is also a nice source.
For tips, know that I'm a feline therian, so I have more tips for felines, but I'll do my best for the rest :3
⚝Tips for mourning dove :
Put a blanket on your back and hold the ends with your hands to simulate wings (a classic)
Make or buy a shawl with feather patterns, I've already seen some crocheted ones on tumblr, it's gorgeous.
If you can, try to climb a tree (be careful though) or something high up.
Try vocals! You can try making bird calls(There are many tutorials on YouTube)!
Listen to nature sounds (especially bird chirping) by going outside, or indoors by listening to nature soundtracks on Spotify, for example.
Go outside to a windy place, close your eyes and imagine yourself flying.
Wears clothes with wide sleeves, which can resemble wings.
⚝Tips for whitetail deer:
Try deer vocals!
Focus on your sense of smell, and smell all the little odors that are barely visible in your environment (to be done in nature, if possible)
Learn the body language of white-tailed deer!
Gently tap your fingers on a hard surface to imitate a hoof sound
White-tailed deer are most active at dawn and dusk, you may be able to walk during these hours, if you can (be careful, be accompanied if possible). They usually rest during the day, so you could take advantage of this time to have a little nap!
⚝Tips for felines:
Practice purring, growling, meowing, (yes, even big cats can purr, although it's a little different than for cats)
Hunt for stuffed animals before eating and imagine eating what you hunted.
Create your own paper claws, it's easy to do and you'll find various tutorials everywhere.
Do your makeup to look like a feline (you don't have to cover your whole face, a little eye shadow under your nose, a line in the small hollow that connects your nose to your mouth and black on the the lower lip can be really euphoric)
Take care of your hair! Don't forget it's your fur.
Climb high (without putting yourself in danger and without doing things your body can't handle), because cats generally feel safer up high.
"claim" your territory! It can be in your garden/house or in a public place (just don't forget that in the latter case this land does not officially belong to you), It is very effective in satisfying one's territorial instincts.
⚝Tips for canines:
Makes canine vocals.
Canines often live in packs or groups, so try to spend more time with loved ones.
Try quadrobics if you can, but be sure to hydrate well and especially not to overdo it if you have arm, leg, heart, ect problems. It's normal that it hurts your fingers and joints a little and that it's difficult to find your balance, but it will pass with time. But if you really suffer a lot every time you try, don't insist, it's okay.
Wrap yourself in a blanket and imagine sleeping with your pack.
Take a nap outside if it's hot, it always feels good.
You can watch the movie "Wolves Walker", I haven't watched it myself yet but apparently it's very popular with canine therians (and many alterhumans in general).
I hope this helped you :3 I posted a list of things to do when you're a newly awakened alter/nonhuman, if you're interested, This might be useful to you. (no forcing)

Have a great day/night! Bye!

Trophy Hunters of Tomorrow
Tyler Poole of Hankamer, Texas, has been deer hunting several years and has seven whitetails and one mule deer to his credit. The 12-year-old seventh grader at Abeka Christian Academy got the chance to go after mule deer in the Texas Panhandle when his dad, Jared, applied for a Big Time Texas Hunt with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Each year, TPWD makes a lot of good hunts available on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) and other places in Texas, and lucky hunters often come home with trophies of a lifetime.
Jared was accepted for the mule deer hunt on the Yoakum Dunes WMA in Cochran County, with Tyler as a guest hunter. The hunters gathered their guns and gear and traveled to Cochran County, where they met their guides at the WMA headquarters near the small town of Whiteface. Tyler carried his Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor and a pocket full of shells.
At dinner on the day of their arrival, Tyler and his guide planned a hunt on the vast 14,037-acre WMA. The vast West Texas area is home to a good population of mule deer, and the hunters would cruise the backroads looking for a good buck. Long stalks to get in position for a good shot are not uncommon, and Tyler found out how difficult it is to get in rifle range of a mule deer in the sand dunes of Cochran County.
On the first day, Tyler and his guide got close to a buck or two, but had no luck in the stalk. The next day, they went back after a good buck that they had seen the day before. The deer was unusual, because the G-2s did not fork, but the antler tines were long and Tyler wanted to test his 6.5 Creedmoor on the buck.
In the afternoon, the hunters spotted the buck they were after, and Tyler decided to try for a stalk that would give him a decent shot. After walking and then crawling through the shin oak brush for hours, Tyler finally got a good shot with his Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor at 170 yards. The buck went down, and Tyler had his first mule deer.
Jared had also taken a wide mulie buck, and both father and son returned to Hankamer, just east of Houston, with big smiles. The Big Time Texas Hunt for mule deer had paid off!
Tyler and his dad decided to enter their bucks in the 2023 Hunters Extravaganza Annual Deer Competition in Houston. Both buck were outstanding, but Jared beat Tyler for Best Texas Mule Deer by a few inches. Tyler plans to take a whitetail during the 2023-24 season, and it might be a hunt with his new bow. Jared is a bowhunter, and Tyler plans to take up the sport.
“The Panhandle hunt was special for me and Dad,” Tyler said. “We both enjoyed the sandhill scenery, and the guides were great on the Yoakum Dunes WMA.” The Houston deer contest was the first for Tyler—but probably not the last.
Tyler says he likes to hunt and fish, and has done a lot of both. He also likes Little League baseball. As for deer hunting, he likes it all—but prefers evening hunts. Texas Trophy Hunters Association wants to congratulate Tyler for his first mule deer buck, and hope it’s not his last. —Horace Gore

The Gunblr hunting guide game
One of my dream jobs is to be a professional hunting guide or animal tracker. I would love to be able to develop the skill of tracking to the point where you could get someone or yourself into position to take a shot on an elusive animal. And that’s where this game comes from.
For my location choice, I’ve picked the border area between Tennessee and North Carolina. You have everything from whitetail deer to Bear and even a thriving Elk population that is starting to be open to hunt. Plus it’s gorgeous
Tumblr media
This game started with a conversation between me and @mikeneedsadrink about guide guns. I had seen something about someone having a gun used for hunting or guiding that was exorbitantly expensive, several thousand dollars. And all I could think was “man. It would suck to lose that in a lake or down a valley”. And that’s where I made my choice on my gun.
Tumblr media
The Remington 870 Marine Magnum in 12 gauge. You can find the 870 is every single gun store in the US and it’s not going to wreck your wallet to replace. 12 gauge is the most versatile cartridge available, and out of a 870 can take everything from deer to bear to birds if it needs to. I picked this specific pic off google because of the ghost rings.
Tumblr media
For my carry gun/pistol is gonna be the Springfield Armory TRP operator in 10mm. Much like 12 gauge, I am a big fan of 10mm. And as much as it makes me a fudd, I love the 1911 platform so this is kind of a no brainer. Underwood hardcasts for bear/cat country and Federal HSTs for people.
Hunting rifle is the most interesting thing to search through for me. Do I go with something new school, like a Remington 700 in a chassis? Do I get like a more classic style hunting rifle? Do I go with a wildcat round that’s more specialized or the American classic .30-06 route? Well…
Tumblr media
Enter the Finnish M39 Mosin Nagant. I know it’s weird, but hear me out. They are famously accurate rifles, having been reworked by the Finns in the 40’s, 7.62x54R is a plentiful round that’s supported to this day and is a viable hunting round for all the animals found in the region, and it’s my choice and the M39 is cool so.

Florida Hunting Season: A Month-by-Month Guide for Hunters
Florida is a hunter’s paradise with its diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and year-round hunting opportunities. Whether you're after wild hogs, alligators, deer, or small game, Florida’s hunting seasons are structured to offer a variety of thrilling experiences throughout the year. At Florida Trophy Outfitters, we specialize in providing unforgettable guided hunts for seasoned hunters and beginners alike.
This month-by-month guide will help you plan your hunting trips, understand the different game available, and make the most of each season in the Sunshine State.
January – Deer and Small Game Hunting
January is a great month for hunting in Florida as the weather cools down, making it more comfortable to explore the state's wilderness. During this time:
Whitetail Deer (Zone C): January marks the tail end of deer season in Florida, specifically in Zone C. Bucks are still active, and hunters can take advantage of the last days of deer hunting season.
Small Game: January is prime time for hunting rabbits, squirrels, and quail. These smaller game animals are abundant in Florida’s forests and farmlands.
February Small Game and Wild Hogs
While February marks the close of most big game seasons, it’s an ideal time to focus on small game hunting and wild hog hunting.
Wild Hogs: Florida has a year-round season for wild hogs on private lands, making February an excellent time to target these elusive animals. At Florida Trophy Outfitters, we offer guided hog hunts that allow you to pursue these creatures in Florida’s dense forests and wetlands.
Squirrels and Rabbits: February is also a great time to continue small game hunting, as squirrels and rabbits are still active.
March – Wild Hogs and Turkey Hunting Begins
March brings the excitement of spring turkey season, one of the most anticipated events in Florida's hunting calendar.
Osceola Turkey: Starting in March, spring turkey season kicks off in southern Florida for the Osceola subspecies. Florida is one of the only states where you can hunt the Osceola turkey, which makes it a prime destination for turkey hunters across the country.
Wild Hogs: If turkey isn't your focus, March is still perfect for hunting wild hogs, as they remain active year-round.
April – Peak of Spring Turkey Season
In April, the Osceola turkey season continues, extending to the central and northern regions of Florida. This month offers some of the best turkey hunting in the state:
Osceola Turkey (Zones A, B, C): April is the peak of turkey season, and hunters flock to Florida to try their hand at bagging one of these prized birds. The Osceola turkey is known for its elusive nature and unique habitat, making it a challenging yet rewarding hunt.
May – Wild Hog Hunting in Full Swing
With spring turkey season wrapping up, May is the perfect time to turn your attention back to wild hog hunting. Florida’s wild hog population is thriving, making them an exciting target for hunters throughout the year. The warmer weather means wild hogs are more active in the early mornings and evenings, and with guided hunts at Florida Trophy Outfitters, you'll have the best chance to land a trophy hog.
June – Alligator Hunts Begin
As summer heats up, June marks the start of Florida’s alligator hunting season. Alligator hunting is one of the most thrilling outdoor experiences you can have in Florida.
Alligator Hunts: June through November is the season for alligator hunting, and with a permit, hunters can pursue these giant reptiles. At Florida Trophy Outfitters, our expert guides help you navigate Florida’s swamps and marshes for an adrenaline-filled alligator hunt.
July – Alligator and Wild Hog Hunts
July is all about alligator hunting and wild hogs. With summer in full swing, these species are highly active, making for some exciting hunts.
Alligator Hunts: The warm weather makes alligators more visible on the surface, increasing your chances of a successful hunt.
Wild Hogs: Early morning or evening wild hog hunts are best during the hot months of summer. Florida Trophy Outfitters offers night-time hog hunts with thermal optics, making July an ideal time to take on these elusive animals.
August – Alligator Hunting in Full Force
As alligator season continues through August, this month is prime time for harvesting some of the largest alligators of the year. Our guided alligator hunts at Florida Trophy Outfitters provide everything you need for a successful and safe hunting experience.
September – Deer Season Opens in Southern Florida
September brings excitement for deer hunters as the season for whitetail deer opens in Zone A, located in the southern part of Florida. Early archery season begins, offering the chance to take down a buck in Florida’s unique hunting environments.
Deer (Zone A): September marks the start of deer hunting with bows and crossbows in the southern zone.
Alligator Hunts: Alligator season remains open, giving hunters multiple game options in September.
October – Archery and Muzzleloader Deer Hunting
October is one of the most active months in Florida’s hunting calendar, with several opportunities for deer hunters.
Archery & Crossbow (Zone B): As deer season progresses north, archery season opens in Zone B.
Muzzleloader Season (Zone A): For those looking to use a traditional muzzleloader, October offers the chance to hunt deer with this unique weapon.
Alligator & Wild Hogs: Don’t forget, both alligators and wild hogs are still in season, so there’s plenty of game to pursue.
November – General Gun Deer Season Begins
November kicks off general gun season for deer, and the excitement is palpable. With the cooler weather, deer are more active, making it a great time to head into the field.
Deer (General Gun, Zone A): Firearms season begins, and hunters can use rifles to take down whitetail deer.
Alligator Hunting: November also wraps up alligator season, so it’s your last chance to bag a big gator before the season ends.
December – Deer and Small Game Hunts
December is a great time for deer hunting, with gun seasons continuing in many parts of the state. It’s also an opportunity to get back into small game hunting.
Deer (Zone B): General gun season for deer continues in Zone B, offering excellent opportunities for a successful hunt.
Squirrels, Rabbits, and Quail: December is perfect for small game hunting as cooler weather makes these animals more active.

Hunting with a Group - How to Save on Texas Deer Hunts by Sharing Costs
Deer hunting in Texas is an iconic tradition, drawing in hunters from all over the country. Known for its vast hunting opportunities, Texas offers both trophy bucks and meat hunts. However, hunting can become an expensive endeavor, especially when factoring in permits, equipment, transportation, lodging, and outfitting services. If you're looking for cheap Texas deer hunts one effective strategy to reduce costs is group hunting. By pooling resources and sharing expenses, group hunts can bring high-quality experiences. In this article, we will dive into the benefits of hunting with a group, how to organize an affordable hunt, and key tips for maximizing value.
Tumblr media
Benefits of Group Deer Hunts
1. Cost Sharing for Affordable Hunts
When planning a hunting trip, many costs can add up quickly—lodging, guide fees, transportation, and food. A significant benefit of group hunting is that most of these expenses can be shared among participants, bringing down the per-person cost. For example, deer hunts under $1000 are often easier to arrange when several people are splitting expenses like the cost of an outfitter or cabin rental. Many outfitters even offer discounts for group bookings, making cheap Texas deer hunts much more feasible.
2. Shared Gear and Resources
Hunting equipment can be costly, but in a group setting, hunters can often share gear such as game processing tools, tents, and cooking equipment. This helps reduce the burden on individuals who might not want to invest in expensive hunting gear for a single trip. In addition, group members can exchange hunting tips and resources, which increases the overall efficiency of the hunt, potentially leading to more successful outings.
3. Safety and Support
Hunting with a group enhances safety, especially in the remote areas of Texas. When venturing out into the wilderness, having multiple people with you ensures that any potential medical issues, injuries, or other emergencies are more easily managed. Additionally, hunters can provide support in tracking down and processing game, which is particularly useful during meat hunts, where the goal is to bring home as much venison as possible.
4. Increased Hunting Success
When hunting as a group, there are more eyes on the landscape, more knowledge about animal movement, and more chances to cover multiple areas at the same time. Group members can communicate and share real-time information, increasing the likelihood of spotting and harvesting a deer.
How to Organize a Group Hunting Trip
1. Choosing the Right Location
Selecting a location for a group hunt can depend on several factors: budget, terrain, and the type of deer you're targeting. For affordable whitetail hunts in Texas, consider both public and private lands.
Public Lands: Texas offers various public hunting areas where hunters can access affordable whitetail hunts with just the cost of a permit. Some popular areas include the Sam Houston National Forest, Angelo State Park, and Davy Crockett National Forest. Public lands are great options for hunters looking to minimize expenses, as there are no fees for an outfitter or lodging if you're willing to camp.
Private Ranches: If you're looking for cheap Texas deer hunts on private lands, consider smaller, lesser-known ranches or those offering “day hunts” or meat hunts. These are ideal for hunters focused on harvesting deer for consumption rather than trophies. Many ranches provide guided or semi-guided hunts under $1000 when you book as a group. Ranches also offer amenities like skinning sheds and lodging, which can simplify the logistics of your trip.

Which American Locations Make the Best Hunting Trips? Where to Go Next
Hunting in the United States offers a rich and varied experience, with a range of landscapes and wildlife for both novice and seasoned hunters. Whether you’re after big game like elk and moose or small game like pheasants and waterfowl, the country offers some of the most rewarding spots for hunting. From the towering Rockies to the dense forests of the Southeast, here’s a guide to the top hunting destinations in the U.S. for planning your next adventure.
Montana: A Hunter’s Paradise
Montana is one of the top states for hunting in the U.S., known for its vast wilderness areas and diverse wildlife. The state is a haven for big game hunters, offering some of the best opportunities to hunt elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, and bighorn sheep. The rugged terrain of the Rockies, combined with the state’s expansive public lands, makes Montana an ideal spot for those seeking a challenging and scenic hunting experience.
In particular, the Missouri Breaks and the Bob Marshall Wilderness are among the most popular areas for elk hunting. While hunting in Montana requires a license and proper tags, it is often viewed as a dream destination for serious hunters. The state’s broad range of species ensures that no matter what game you’re pursuing, there’s a spot for you.
Alaska: The Ultimate Frontier
For the more adventurous hunter, Alaska provides some of the most remote and untamed hunting landscapes in the country. The state is renowned for its opportunities to hunt big game species, including moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and the iconic Alaskan brown bear.
Hunting in Alaska requires careful preparation due to its remote locations and challenging weather conditions. For many, this is part of the appeal—there’s nothing quite like trekking through the Alaskan wilderness in pursuit of massive game. The Alaska Range and the Tongass National Forest are top spots for hunting, and guided hunts are a popular option for those new to the area or hunting in extreme conditions.
Alaska’s expansive public lands make it easier for hunters to access prime spots, but it’s essential to plan meticulously, including securing the necessary permits and understanding the local regulations.
Texas: A Hunting State Like No Other
Texas is famous for its private ranches, offering hunters unique opportunities to pursue game in a controlled environment. While much of the state’s hunting occurs on private lands, it’s known for exotic species such as axis deer and aoudad sheep in addition to native species like white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and feral hogs.
South Texas, in particular, is renowned for its white-tailed deer hunting, with many hunters flocking to the region for some of the biggest trophy bucks in the country. For hunters interested in bird hunting, Texas also offers incredible opportunities for hunting dove, quail, and waterfowl. Whether you're after big game or small game, Texas offers a wide variety of species to hunt year-round.
Colorado: High-Altitude Hunting Adventures
Colorado is one of the premier hunting destinations in the U.S., especially for those in search of elk. With its expansive public lands, including national forests and wilderness areas, the state offers ample opportunity to hunt elk, mule deer, and pronghorn.
The Colorado Rockies provide stunning backdrops for your hunting adventure, and the state's large elk population ensures that you have a good chance of success. Archery, rifle, and muzzleloader hunting are all popular options in Colorado, and the season typically begins in late summer and runs through the fall.
The San Juan National Forest and the White River National Forest are prime hunting areas, known for their vast expanses and rich wildlife. If you're a first-time hunter in Colorado, hiring a guide can be beneficial to navigate the challenging terrain and maximize your chances of success.
Wisconsin: A Deer Hunter’s Dream
Wisconsin is a top destination for those looking to hunt whitetail deer, with a thriving deer population and a long-standing hunting tradition. The state offers a variety of habitats, from dense forests to rolling farmlands, making it an ideal location for deer hunting.
The Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin is especially popular, known for its trophy-size deer and picturesque landscape. Additionally, Wisconsin offers plenty of public lands for hunting, making it accessible for both resident and non-resident hunters.
Beyond deer, Wisconsin is also a great destination for waterfowl hunters. The state’s numerous lakes and wetlands make it a prime spot for hunting ducks and geese during the fall migration season.
Idaho: Untouched Wilderness for Big Game Hunters
Idaho offers some of the most rugged and remote hunting experiences in the U.S. Its vast wilderness areas and diverse ecosystems make it a haven for big game hunters. Elk, mule deer, mountain lions, and black bears are all common game in Idaho, with hunting opportunities available on both public and private lands.
The Salmon-Challis National Forest and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area are top spots for hunting in Idaho. The state also offers over-the-counter tags for some species, making it a relatively accessible destination for out-of-state hunters.
Hunters in Idaho can expect challenging terrain, but the reward is often worth it. The state’s low population density means that you’ll often have large areas of wilderness to yourself, providing a truly immersive hunting experience.
South Dakota: Pheasant Hunting Capital
If you’re looking for an excellent upland bird hunting experience, South Dakota is the place to be. The state is famous for its pheasant hunting, drawing hunters from all over the country each fall. The rolling prairies and farmlands provide the perfect habitat for pheasants, and South Dakota’s well-managed hunting regulations ensure healthy bird populations year after year.
In addition to pheasants, South Dakota also offers opportunities to hunt other game birds like grouse and partridge. Many hunters flock to the eastern part of the state, where large numbers of birds can be found in the fields and wetlands.
Hunting in South Dakota is a tradition passed down through generations, and the state offers numerous lodges and guided hunts to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience.
Maine: New England’s Hidden Gem
Maine may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of hunting destinations, but it offers some of the best opportunities for hunting in New England. The state is known for its moose hunting, with the annual moose lottery drawing thousands of hopeful hunters from across the country.
In addition to moose, Maine also offers excellent hunting opportunities for black bears, whitetail deer, and small game like snowshoe hares and ruffed grouse. The vast North Woods region is one of the top spots for hunting in Maine, offering dense forests and remote wilderness areas.
Hunting in Maine can be challenging due to the state’s dense forests, but the rewards are plentiful. The state’s wildlife populations are well-managed, and hunting seasons are designed to maintain healthy populations of game species.
Wyoming: Pronghorn Antelope and More
Wyoming is one of the best destinations in the U.S. for hunting pronghorn antelope, with more pronghorn than people in the state. The vast open plains of Wyoming provide the perfect habitat for these speedy animals, and hunters flock to the state each year for the opportunity to harvest a trophy.
In addition to pronghorn, Wyoming is also known for its elk and mule deer hunting. The state’s rugged mountains and expansive wilderness areas make it a prime spot for big game hunters. Areas like the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Bighorn Mountains offer excellent hunting opportunities, and Wyoming’s wildlife management practices ensure healthy game populations.
Wyoming also offers over-the-counter tags for many species, making it an accessible destination for hunters who may not have drawn a tag in other states.
The U.S. offers an incredible diversity of hunting experiences, from the remote wilderness of Alaska to the rolling prairies of South Dakota. Whether you’re after big game like elk and moose or small game like pheasants and waterfowl, there’s a destination for you. When planning your next hunting trip, consider the unique landscapes, wildlife, and regulations of each state to ensure a successful and memorable adventure.

The past three days have been eventful! Thursday we had a professor who studies whales in Greenland! It was cool to hear her work and listen to different whale songs. Apparently, she flies back to Greenland in two weeks to escort the King and Queen of Denmark and talk about her research! Crazy! It's odd how near me there are several castles with royal families inside them. After class, I went with three people to Tivoli, a theme park in Copenhagen! Fun fact, it inspired Small World in Disneyland/world! It's a bit pricey to get in, about 25-ish dollars, but it was fun to look around. It was small for sure, with many of the rides lasting only 90 seconds and being as tall as four-story buildings. Definitely not worth $7 per ride. However, one of the people I went with was able to get two so I got to go on the rides for free! They were still fun, the two being the best were the dragon loop ride and the high swings which had an aerial view of Copenhagen! We then went to an Italian restaurant to eat. I had Gnocchi with an Aperol Spritz. Very nice! It was funny how there were more older people eating at the various dinners in the park than families at times haha. On Friday, my class went to the Rosenburg Botanical Gardens. We went to look at the various Arctic plants on display. The plants there are very small and short to conserve energy. One of them we got to eat and it tasted like Rhubarb. I'm hoping to officially visit the gardens and the castle next Sunday after Svalbard. I was going to today but I wanted today to be a lazy day so I could rest up before the 5:30 am flight grrr. After that, DIS had an event at Bakken, the world's oldest theme park! It was built in the 1580s I believe next to the King's hunting grounds. Three of my classmates and I sat around and talked with other DIS students while we ate local cheesy chip snacks, donut apples, and granola bars. We then went on a walk through the deer sanctuary which was the original hunting grounds. According to the guides, the king would have the dogs chase the deer until they were so exhausted they would fall over and then kill them with a knife. Quite brutal. We saw a few of them. The deer here have bigger faces and look more rugged than whitetails in the US. We also saw a huge tree that was around 800 years old! After the walk, we went into the park. Like Tivoli, it's small. We got one free ride which was one of the world's oldest wooden rollercoasters! It was pretty fun and sped up quickly going up! As it was older, the ride animals looked a little creepy. Also, there are lots of paintings of naked women. Very different from American theme parks let's say. I had a hotdog and a Nutella crepe which were pretty good. Saturday, my future roommate McKenna and I wanted to experience Sweden's Midsommar. Sadly most of the festivities happened on Friday when we had class. So we looked and found that Helsingborg had one in the afternoon. We first went to Malmo to get some coffee and talked. Afterward, we took the train to the north. In total, about 2 hours. The event was in a heritage center based in the 1880s-1950s depending on what part of the "town" you went into. However, the employees dressed in traditional garb. I participated in some of the dancing but felt kind of silly as it was more for people who grew up with the tradition or were little. But it was still cool to experience it! It was misting the whole day so we were quite soaked. They had some traditional desserts too. One had rhubarb in it but it wasn't super sour. There was also a rose garden and it smelled so good! I don't know what trees were in the area, but they also smelt lovely. The town reminded me of Alice in Wonderland but the forest was more Narnia. McKenna and I had pizza for lunch and McDonalds for dinner. Excellent choices for a travel day lol.

Finally working on 'The Age of the Deer' book and interestingly deer were almost hunted to extinction in North America.
"Kansas was declared deer-free in the 1930s. Ohio's herd had been extripated for three decades by then. Vermonters hadn't seen a deer for two generations."
"[...] in at least thirty states from Flordia to Vermont and from Montana to Texas, game managers deliberately restocked whitetails"
It sounds like the early 1900s was wild time to be a deer. Because they'd capture the deer in one state and ship them off to another. Imagine getting drugged and ending up in Montana when you've lived in like, North Carolina your whole life.
Anyway deer as symbols of death, deer as symbols of spiritual protection and guides to the afterlife, deer as transit beings between urban and rural- life and death- wild and tamed. Good stuff. Deer (to my suprise) carry their own duality with them throughout history as beings of opposites. But more importantly, they survive. As a species they just keep going and going.
So you know, the assumed canon of Alastor being a deer because he was mistaken for one caused his death is cool but also is he not a character designed of opposites?
Gentlemen- killer, he bleats like a fawn with Rosie - will eat people alive, Fluffy- will kill. Any play into deer duality was an accident but I was delighted just the same.
P.S. "Biologists estimate that Louisiana’s deer population dropped from several hundred thousand in 1700 to an estimated 70,000 by the early 1900s. In some areas, the deer disappeared altogether."
"Louisiana climbed on the Progressive band wagon in 1912 when it created the Department of Conservation and gave it the authority to regulate all activities regarding the state’s wildlife. In setting the deer season that year, the Department outlawed the killing of does for the first time, required bucks to have antlers at least 3 inches long, and limited hunters to 5 bucks per season. The selling of venison was also prohibited (another first), but, oddly, spotlighting was allowed."
Whoever shot Alastor probably wasn't even legally allowed to hunt deer (depending on season). Now isn't that just the sugar on the cream.

With vast whitetail populations and diverse hunting opportunities, Ohio offers an unforgettable experience for hunters of all skill levels. Here at Whitetail Heaven Outfitters, we're passionate about helping you achieve success in the field.

Prime Seasons and Deer Activity
Ohio boasts extended hunting seasons, allowing you to tailor your trip to target specific deer movement.
Archery Season (September - February): This lengthy season offers ample opportunities for skilled bowhunters. As fall foliage peaks, deer become more active in search of food, creating prime hunting conditions. The late rut (breeding season) in late November and December presents another exciting opportunity for trophy bucks.
Gun Season (November - December): This shorter yet highly anticipated season allows hunters to utilize rifles for a more efficient harvest.
Understanding Ohio's Diverse Hunting Landscape
Ohio's varied terrain offers a range of hunting opportunities:
Eastern Forests: Lush forests in eastern Ohio provide excellent cover for whitetails. Utilize tree stands or ground blinds for strategic hunting along deer trails and natural funnels.
Rolling Farmland: Ohio's vast agricultural landscape offers open fields with scattered woodlots. Strategize hunts near crop fields where deer graze in the early mornings and evenings.
Public and Private Land Hunting: Public hunting lands offer a budget-friendly option, while private land hunts provide a more controlled environment with potentially higher deer concentrations.
