diluc x reader to me is a bit like that scene in the new season of bridgerton where the girl is like “inserts himself where?” I feel like me n him just never even get to the point to where he makes it inside - she follows up by saying that while they’re kissing he “makes a weird noise and goes to change his britches” and I think it’s like that for a LONGGG time any sort of casual intimacy with him is met with him just not lasting because he’s so infatuated with you and hasn’t felt this way… well… ever

honestly i actually think a guy getting so overwhelmed kissing you and rutting against you, just so lost in the sensation of you close to him so that he comes early is so so sexy. and incredibly diluc-coded because the man is TOUCH-STARVED. sigh

god i LOVEE your bridgerton/regency au thoughts. i think diluc would just fit it so so perfectly. the handsome, wealthy, proper nobleman who suddenly turns shy and stumbles over his words when faced with the woman he wants to court… oughhsjd ໒꒰ྀི ∩ ⸝⸝ ∩ ꒱ྀིა he’s literally like a victorian man who would faint over the sight of a bare ankle i love him so bad

ah thank you, i'm glad you enjoy them! diluc in a bridgerton au...he rlly is perfect for it!!! trained since birth to live up to his title, the one he left behind after crepus died, only to reclaim again when he returned. the ton is full of rumors about him—he's their most eligible bachelor by far, but he's made of such stern stuff.

he's polite to the point of stiffness, at least to the mamas. he's still polite, but the set of his mouth speaks to his irritation. it's actually rare for him to attend events, but his family has always put on the first ball of the season. as host, it leaves him wide open.

and your mama is one of machinations.

you're not sure how she does it, but diluc's name ends up on your dance card. as you take up his hand on the dance floor, you murmur an apology. he blinks, meeting your eyes for the first time, and you give him a small, tentative smile.

he frowns.

the dance is a mortifying one; diluc dances beautifully, smooth and elegant as he leads, but you can barely look at him, too caught up in that furrow of his brow. you slip from the dance floor as the music ends, fleeing back to your mama.

that's the end of it, you think, until the gunnhildr's ball a month later, when he steps up to you with pink cheeks and an apology on his tongue.

he stumbles over it, just a little bit, and it's painfully endearing. he takes his leave quickly and you let him go.

you have a feeling it won't be the last time you see him.

summary: to escape a persistent suitor, diluc claims you're his betrothed, not knowing you've been in love with him for years.

i. elaborate ruse

it was supposed to be a quiet business event.

earlier that week, when diluc had told you about it as he cleaned glass cups behind angel’s share counter, before the usual movement began to pick up, those were the words he had used himself. a quiet event, he’d said, so those who have interest in making business with the winery can attest the quality of our products themselves. there’d been quite a lot of prospective business partners lately, all from different regions, and while diluc would rather not be present, as head of the winery he’d been left no choice this time.

“would you like me to be there for moral support?” you had said, a joking tone to your words, but his reply caught you off guard.

“that’d be good.”

“...wait, really?”

“maybe not for moral support,” he’d given a small smile, “but it’d be good to have you there.”

and so, there you were.

from your place near elzer's desk, you watch as guests slowly trickle inside the manor, being welcomed by elzer and adelinde. standing by diluc side as he checks the guest list again, it’s hard to miss the way he winces. your eyes automatically go down to the paper he’s holding, noticing a particular name that may as well be spelled as "headache". you wince as well.

“aren’t you and her family already business partners?”

“we are,” he nods as he places the paper down on the table. “but she’s…persistent in pursuing a different business arrangement.”

“you mean the whole marriage thing?”

diluc schools his face into a neutral façade pretty quickly, but you’re used to him - being his best friend for years, it's easy for you to catch the way he suppresses a second wince; the displeased downturn of his mouth, the twitch of his eyebrow.

“you know, you could always use me as your escape goat.” the words fly out of your mouth before you can think them through. your blood turns into ice inside your veins.

diluc steps closer to you, arms crossed in front of his chest.

“... go on.”

“if she does show up,” you hesitate, keeping your eyes forward and cursing yourself all the while because why. why did you put yourself in this situation. this is a stupid idea why did you open your mouth– “i, well. you can tell her that it’s a flattering offer but unfortunately you must refuse because you’re already engaged."

you risk a glance at diluc only to find him staring at you, ruby eyes unreadable. a moment of silence passes between the two of you as he considers your offer, the quiet chatter of the guests almost inaudible compared to the anxious thundering of your heart.

"engaged to you."

you nod.

“alright,” he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, then rubbing his closed eyes with his index finger and thumb, “it’s worth a shot.”

“great! then it's settled.” you say, voice cracking slightly, making you hold back a grimace. you pat him in the back with one anxiously trembling hand, praying to whoever is listening that diluc doesn’t notice. “now you should go and mingle with your future business partners, since that’s the whole point of this thing you’ve got going on here. go on. shoo.”

you give him a gentle nudge forward, and he shoots you a concerned look, unmoving.

"you're sure you're comfortable with this?"

"of course," you can't hold back your smile, "i wouldn't suggest such a thing if i wasn't. i trust you."

when you nudge him again, he moves, only stopping once to look back at you with an exasperated but fond expression, red eyes shining in the warm light of the manor before he finally settles on doing his duty as a host. you feel the smile on your face waiver before it fades completely. inside, you’re screaming.

maybe she won’t show up at all, you try to reason with yourself. and even if she does, maybe diluc won’t actually have to resort to that. besides, what’s the worst that can happen? it’s not like diluc will find out about how you've been in love with him for years, right? this has nothing to do with that. you're just helping your best friend escape an unpleasant situation with an absurd ruse you came up with on the spot and that he, for some lapse of judgement, agreed to. it’s fine.

Your ears perked up from the notifications. “Someone just emailed both of you!”

Kaeya sank further into the couch and shoved a pillow to his face. “I think I know who it’s from,” he groaned.

You picked up his phone from the side table and tossed it to him. “You haven’t even checked it and you’ve already got your nips all twisted.”

He threw the pillow in your direction and narrowly missed, earning him a small giggle.

Diluc pulled the ribbon of his apron decorated with flames and bold words saying “Take Me to Flavortown”. It was a white elephant gift from Kaeya last Christmas. But Diluc didn’t have the heart to throw it away, even if it was haphazardly wrapped with Sunday newspapers and held together with masking tape.

He wiped his hands on the towel before propping up his laptop onto the kitchen island. “It’s from father.”

You pushed Kaeya’s legs off your lap and stalked behind Diluc.

Curious eyes drifted across the screen. A soft tingle ran through him as you placed light fingers on the curve of his back.

Diluc read the email with a soft murmur. The smooth baritone of his voice was well practiced from his final presentation during spring semester.

It’s summer break now.

Which meant unwanted messages from the Ragnvindr household.

To my dearest sons,

I hope this message finds you well.

The Summer Solstice Celebration at Dawn Winery will be held this Saturday at early noon. I will be expecting both of you to be there, as well as a guest of your choosing.

You snorted, “Are you sure this wasn’t supposed to be sent to his employees?”

“What the hell is ‘early noon’?” Kaeya walked towards the pair and leaned his forearms on the kitchen island. “It’s either morning, afternoon, or evening!”

Diluc sighed, “You better not bail on me like last year!”

“Look, dude. I would too if I had to be in a room with rich people who’ve got sticks up their ass.” You sidled up next to Kaeya and propped your head on his shoulder.

“And it looks like we’ve got to take a plus one to bore.” Kaeya grinned. “Or to take to the storage room.”

You elbowed him. “Well, goodluck sweet talking one of your midnight lovers into a Bridgerton soirée.”

“Absolutely not!” Diluc slammed his laptop shut. “We’re taking someone more appropriate to meet father.”

You felt their eyes heavily bore into yours.

You shot up. “No, no, no! Not me!”

so sorry to be that guy ack but the corset talk has really reminded me how modern media has ruined people's perception of corsets and women's clothing in general... Corsets are ye olden day equivalent of bras! They provide support, give the impression of a smaller waist silhouette (when it comes to structured corsets) and help with posture! Some enthusiasts of older articles of clothing have taken up to wearing corsets daily and are actually pretty satisfied with them, since they can be unexpectedly comfortable. Some people even wear them during sports!

If a corset is hurting you, or you notice you have trouble breathing while wearing it, then either it is a badly made one or you're wearing it wrong, so always be mindful! Your comfort and safety come first.

Back on the yandere based talk though... How utterly intimate the act of them helping you put it on can be... Someone like Jean or Lisa, oh so kindly agreeing to tie it for you, carefully lacing everything together. Jean would be so careful and patient, making sure everything is laced perfectly and that you're comfortable, while Lisa would watch. She'd run her hands up and down your sides, admiring Jean's handiwork once she's finished. See, you look so good like this, aren't you a beauty? Lisa was right to pick out this pattern, it looks wonderful on a sweet little thing like you!

On the other hand, Kaeya would be more interested in taking it off... It's been a long day, you want to get out of this, so of course Kaeya is here to help you out! Nevermind that you specifically said you don't want his help. He'd be so mean, taking his sweet time with it. And uncharacteristically silent, enough to make you uneasy, frustrated with him. He has a way of toying with your nerves without uttering a single word.

Diluc would ah. Yeah he wouldn't really have experience with this. Leave it to the maids. Maybe you can tease him by asking him to tie it for you, make him all flustered, but in the end the joke's on you bc it would take him half an hour just to make a mess :( Such is the complicated life of Diluc's darling.

oh anon, you absolutely do not need to talk to me about corsets! i wear an underbust corset semi-regularly (i wear fifties repro fashion and it works for the silhouette!) and have talked about it quite a bit here! i get needlessly angry at media about how Corsets Are Bad or scenes about 'oh i hate wearing a corset so much'. the newest bridgerton has a scene where a character says like "my corset is made of whale bones. whales died for me to wear it" and AAAAAGH. it's not. whalebone corsets arent made of whale BONES!!! tell me you did no research without telling me! also that recent news about the bbc/netflix/etc 'banning' corsets over health and safety concerns - JUST MAKE YOUR ACTORS WEAR WELL-FITTED CORSETS? STOP TRYING TO MAKE THEM AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE, JUST GET THEM CUSTOM MADE TO FIT CORRECTLY. ARGH. historical costumery my greatest foe . . .

(i also find mine super helpful for grounding and i know that's very common! i have shitty posture and it helps with that but also the feel of it being there holding me makes me feel a lot more Present! i will also always be an avid Shouter Of Not Buying Shitty eBay or Amazon corsets and supporting a creator or small business!)
