Look, this is more of a general question that I'd be happy for you and your followers (if they and you feel comfortable) to answer: What is your sense of "self" like and what "type" of system do you consider yourself to be (multiple, median, something more specific, nothing specific, a third secret thing, etc)?

I'm trying to figure out how being plural "looks like" to say if I really am or if what I feel is something different /info

Hey, this is a… really difficult question.

Our sense of self is fragmented, weak, and unstable at best, and missing at worst. Each alter may have a bit of an idea about who they are as individuals (like name, pronouns, memories, interests), but we spend a lot of time in a fog or so checked out that we don’t (or can’t) really think about who we are. It’s taken us a lot of work in therapy and internally to even be able to sign off on these posts lol!

We often feel unreal, invisible, like we’re floating above the clouds, or trapped inside our own mind. Different alters feel and view our depersonalization in different ways, and out sense of self is not universal across the system. Ralsei might firmly know who soft is, what soft wants, and softs role in the system, while Ghost or Alucard (or me!) may struggle to remember our names, who we are as individuals, and where we’re going in life.

Many people with dissociative disorders are able to have enriching, worthwhile careers, but our severe fragmentation of self has kept us from being able to focus on a single track for the future. Kip is drawn towards mental health work, Margo wants us to go into library science, Cecil is fascinated with technology and wants us to pursue a career in IT… and I, the host, don’t know what I want. I feel like I’m always too hazy to learn anything that might help us in a career, I can’t choose between my alters, and past traumas have me believing that we’re not smart enough to do anything besides fast food work anyway (hence, we’re a delivery driver). Hopefully this example demonstrates how our choppy, incoherent sense of self impacts our lives in tangible ways.

As for what “type” of system we’d call ourself: at this point anyone in the system can agree that we are a DID system. That’s how we consider ourselves. Many of us in the system use labels like plural and multiple to describe our system, but not all of us view the system like that. For others, we collectively are “a person struggling with DID.” A person with a disorder, nothing more. These alters do not use plural labels for themselves or the system. In general, the system uses “alters” and “parts” language to describe ourselves and each other. Most of us don’t care for the term “headmate” for our system specifically.

One last thing I’d like to say is that plurality and systemhood look vastly different from system to system. So your experience with plurality may not look like ours at all. You don’t have to have a weak, unstable, or fragmented sense of self to be plural. You don’t have to struggle with depersonalization in order to experience multiplicity. These things often do come as symptoms of dissociative disorders, but not every system has a dissociative disorder.

The 💫multiverse💫 in My Crown In Red 👑

Hello hello and welcome to my first lore dump on My Crown In Red! It's time to get some information out!

For this little infodump I'll focus on the most important, yet also the most complicated aspect of the story, that being MCIR's multiverse! I'll go over:

🌟- The concept of the multiverse

🌟- Multiverse anomalies

🌟- Multiverse bubbles

This is a really complicated topic, but I'll try my best to keep it short and simple!

🌟The concept of the multiverse🌟

One of the most important elements to My crown in red (or MCIR for short), is the existence of a so called multiverse, which is basically a collection of infinite possible realities that co-exist peacefully with each other. In MCIR's multiverse, every possible reality must exist at least once and can never exist in the exact same way twice. This leads to billions of different realities, some differing in every shape and form while others only differ in the way a single leaf drops from a tree.

Universes can be connected to each other! For example, the universe a video game takes place in (let's call it universe A), can be connected to a universe, in which that game is actually playable (universe B). In this case, the decisions made by people playing the game in universe B will affect the people living in universe A.

🌟Universe anomalies🌟

Via excessive multiverse travel, the universe you are traveling to might become distorted in different ways. This happens because of the universe being aware that something alien is invading it, and it trying its best to kick you out again, or it simply becoming confused. You can read more about universe travel in detail here!

These anomalies might take the form of visual distortions, such as the area around you deforming, or people possessing information that they shouldn't have, or events playing out in a completely nonsensical way. The most famous example of this in MCIR, is Cackletta consenting to Demonsoul murdering her. The universe later realizes its obvious blunder and completely wipes that part of itself from existence, acting as if it never happened in the first place, leaving only Demonsoul with the memories.

🌟Universe bubbles🌟

Some universes exist together in what I like to call a "bubble". This one is extremely complicated to explain but I'll try by best to keep it simple.

The multiverse functions under many different rules, however, since the multiverse needs to have one of every possible reality taken care off, some of these rules need to be broken. Here's where the bubbles come into play!

Let's imagine a universe within a bubble, with an all powerful diety, able to do whatever it pleases whenever it wants. Today it wants to travel to another universe by simply teleporting to it! Now, universe travel is something that's usually not allowed by the multiverse, which is why we have this bubble. In this bubble there now exists another set of endless realities that the diety can travel to using its powers, as inside that bubble and inside that bubble alone, the rules of the multiverse function differently.

Just like there being infinite realities, there are also infinite bubbles, as one specific universe being inside a bubble is possible, and therefore has to be taken care of by the multiverse. So two realities can differ just by one being inside a bubble, and one being not.

💫 I COULD TALK FOR HOURS ABOUT MY (Asier/Dream) LORE. Fuck you you’re getting a brief infodump about my species/race. Ramble under the cut!

In source we were nameless because we originated millions of years before modern Minecraft and there weren’t really any universal languages so every race gave each other names in their own language for everyone except themselves, and my race sorta got erased from history. I named us Takei recently because I feel like we deserve a name.

Basically we were created in the image of XD, and His whole thing is illusion, deceit, etc. We had a general base physical appearance of:

Long torsos, legs, and fingers

Triangular ears with rounded tips

Black sclera

Long and slightly hooked fingernails/claws

Small feet and semi digitigrade legs, like paws

Flat faces and no visible mouth

Skin, fur, and scales that look like static

And since we were made in the image of the dude whose whole thing was illusions and deceit, we had these things called FAs or Fake Appearances that were survival tactics. We could pretty much warp an outsider’s sensory perception of us, and only other Takei could see through these FAs.

Religion was rampant in our culture (and general Overworld culture) alongside a firm belief in “purging the unfit”, and that manifested as Takei accidentally feeding into a decline in our population. Religious hysteria rolled around which led to a further decrease in population and eventual extinction. To escape that, the remaining Takei started abandoning culture and panic breeding (for lack of better words) with other races as an attempt to save themselves but that didn’t really work out too well.

Not to be the main character but I was the last Takei LMAO. I was supposed to be a mortal vessel for XD Himself, so that paired with Takei being made in His image is why that quote of “Hey Dream, why does God look exactly like you?” (or whatever the quote was) happened in those DSMP streams.

I was NOT a successful vessel, I was stillborn, but Death saw that I had a fully developed Void (extremely irregular) so she decided to send my soul back? He revived me but also ended up accidentally making me immortal, cutting the tie between XD and I, and also leading my village to give me a shameful name (Dream wasTaken by Death) (Dream itself actually refers to the context of aspirations in my culture’s tongue) and leading me to be abandoned by them at a young age under the cultural idea of “purging the unfit”.

I’m so fucking normal over my lore HAHAHAHA it is so fucking non-canon because we’re so autistic with Minecraft and genuinely have so many exomemories it’s crazy

This took me four hours😳 My brain today…

🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

Renathal is all about the details, in all universes. He knows the importance of romanticizing the domestic details of one’s own existence, and it’s part of the reason he takes such precise care in all aspects of his life. In the AU this manifests as the intricate strictures of his routine, the creature comforts of his flat, the care and attention he gives the notes he leaves on student papers, and in Revendreth its just Venthyr versions of the same. Seeing, appreciating, and tenderly cultivating the details of life is one of his most adorable traits. 

🥀 How would your OC decorate a notebook or journal? What kind of things are written in there? Could you give an example of a nice entry?

Renathal absolutely keeps a diary. It’s not particularly creative in its  decoration, but it is expensive, tasteful, and religiously maintained. Entries will begin as a recitation of events of the day and then diverge into his thoughts, opinions, musings, etc which are generally lurid, prosy, and a bit pretentious (he fancies himself a writer, can you imagine). An example of the latter can be found below.

Gosh, just so many, but I think it will always be his tendency to fall back on dark humor that shows up in every universe and at the oddest of times.

🌸 What are some of their favourite things and why? List as many as you can think of! A few of the Maw Walker’s favorite things:

-The smell of the ocean

-Sunsets and colorful twilights

-Exploring exotic locales (with Renathal)

-Being awake when everyone else is sleeping

An excerpt from Prince Renathal’s stolen journal as found in the wilds of Revendreth by an adventurer and turned into Mistress Mihaela who ordered a copy created and now sells reproductions, the proceeds from which go to the restoration of Darkhaven. It should be noted that the Dark Prince is aware of this and does not mind in the slightest. The Maw Walker has refused to issue a public comment on its contents.

The Maw Walker is a hedge maze, a mysterious labyrinth, the paths through which one can spend a thousand years mapping only to find it has reformed itself around one, but within whose depths it is always exhilarating and wholly safe to lose oneself. An exquisitely twined collection of delicate buds which combined create a most solid, immovable, breathtaking whole, the beauty of which is almost an after thought in comparison to its thoughtful grace and grandeur. But it is at one’s own peril to mistake it for a domesticated foliage. It is deadly to underestimate, dangerous to cross. It cannot be controlled, but it may be cultivated by those willing and able to dedicate themselves entirely to its growth.

I mean, there has never, not once, been a democracy that has survived. They all turn into authoritarian constructs, which then disintegrate because *big shocker* authoritarians (whatever they call themselves) are always self-serving. Human societies tend to move from egalitarianism toward hierarchy, socially, politically, and economically. From diversity to homogeneity. From enough to excess to artificial privation.

Happens every time, again, regardless of how the grouping is styled or how it thinks of itself. The subjugation and exploitation of the individual in the name of the whole for the benefit of those doing the subjugating. And it doesn’t break because of universal justice or the human spirit or god or any nonsense like that. It breaks because it’s a flawed construct from the start. It doesn’t work because it can’t work. Because its only goal is selective comfort at another’s expense.

It ends up with one getting fitted for a throne while another is kicked to the curb, and the people in between sorted, rewarded and punished, based on their proximity and usefulness to either of these. I don’t think it’s an imperative of polities, but rather of human polities. Humans crave adoration, or at least nearness to that which is adored, and they loathe what is different, because in the wild what is different kills you while your band keeps you safe.

And it’s because humans don’t control those most out of control. You just thought of someone you hate when I said that, but I’m talking about those with the most power and excessive appetites. Two ingredients make up a failing society. A bad person or a group of bad people with practical power, and a group of people who lack the intelligence to see them for what they are, who surrender what agency they have to the system created by the maladjusted.

This is why systems based on rule by popularity, enforced or coerced, always fail. Because popularity is not a key component of a healthy, functional society in and of itself. It is why the stories of societies always end in either collapse or violent transformation, why the continuum always moves from openness and fairness to consolidation and hierarchy and ruin, and not in the other direction. Never in the other direction. The entropy of the collective soul.

Humans, collectively, and for the most part individually, simply lack the breadth of consciousness to surpass their evolved biological baggage. It’s why they made up gods. It’s why they make up laws. It’s why they have so many stories about virtue and righteousness, told and appreciated alike by liars. It’s why all of these constructs inevitably fail.

I don’t think there is a traditional way out, or a different way forward. I think if ‘the species’ or ‘the future’ or ‘morality’ or ‘justice’ are things people actually care about, then all of this is too important to leave to chance or popularity or strength of the moment.

Best find and/or create the best leaders, based on criteria that are not arbitrary or subjective or imaginary, and devote every available resource to bringing the rest up as close to that level as individually possible. That’s the only purpose that matters, at the sociopolitical level. The rest is either gratification or fantasy. And it has to be done without culling the fight out of everyone and turning them all into insects.

Or kill each other to death like always, until the planet burns everyone alive. It really doesn’t matter. The universe don’t care either way. The only question is: how much suffering is everyone willing to put up with while it all goes down the toilet? 💫

22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

often I have a something in mind the whole way through the process, even if it’s not a full title. sometimes this happens right at the beginning (e.g. junk science was always junk science long before I actually started writing it), & sometimes the entire story might unspool titleless and come to be centred around a phrase or word that appears only once in the text itself (e.g. when I first wrote the scene of the rickety old olive grove ghoulcy stumble through, I did a double-take at “cemeterial trees” & cemeterial trees the thing instantly became 💡); other times it’s something outside the story entirely, some kind of textual inspo, or a phrase from a poem I like that’s thematically relevant etc. etc. in general I like q concise titles so that has a bearing on picking one that resonates too.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

most things I write come from an initial little line that finds its way into the notes app on my phone & the pov is decided from that; my brain in-between other autopilot tasks @ work just allots whatever pronoun or perspective feels most natural at the time & off we go

probably college/university where it’s a teacher/pupil kind of relationship dynamic; I am so beyond sick of writing that trope even tho collectively I’ve probably only written 1 whole story featuring it

51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?

the last year or so I would say yes in the sense that I have finally found my “people” on ao3, aka a core group of like three authors I fan-girl over madly in the group chat & would (read: do, have, will again) honourably hoover up whatever the fuck they choose to put out; when I tell you I’ve delved into shows I haven’t even seen, ships I’ve never even heard about, tropes I didn’t know existed, & loved every minute of it, I am telling the whole entire godsworn truth 🙇🏻‍♀️

72. What’s your favourite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

[Your writing is] poetic, but it doesn't feel forced or overdone. Instead, it adds such a visceral quality to the work, contributes to its atmosphere -- hot and haunted. I want to savor each sentence like a ripe fruit. Read and reread each before going onto the next, each one a held breath. It’s the kind of writing that I know I’ll be thinking about when writing myself, wanting in some way to emulate it, to learn from it.

🌻 - What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?

Seeing other people’s bonds with each other; whether those be familial, friendly, or romantic. Those smiles and shared laughs… true contentment; that’s treasure. The connections that one can have with others are what life is all about for Whisper.

🌾 - Describe your OC through the eyes of someone absolutely head-over-heels in love with them.

I would write this in-character for Gale, but I fear being openly cringe. In my head, I picture that Gale goes from viewing Whisper as his so-called knight in shining armor, a hero with a heart of gold, to seeing him as his sun, his moon, his stardust — his whole universe. He is definitely the type to memorize all the meticulous details about Whisper just to pay compliments to him and his splendor; the ridges on his chest, the broadness of his shoulders, the freckles dotting his blue skin, the point of his ears, the cut of his teeth, the arch of his nose, and most importantly, those rounded and doe-like eyes… full of love… capable of tenderness and feeling, a wizard might say. Gale finds stars whenever he’s staring into them.

🥀 - How would your OC decorate a notebook or journal? What kind of things are written in there? Could you give an example of a nice entry?

What a question! Whisper is not one for decor, I’ll say. He’d be a horrible interior decorator. However, I think since he likes to take care of plants and collect all assortments of flora from the regions he travels to… well, it seems fitting that he’d stain or press flower imprints into his journal just to decorate the pages prettily. As for what would be written down, literacy is not one of Whisper’s strong suits, so whatever he writes would be kept short and sweet. Either that, or no words at all! You might find little doodles instead. An example of an entry from his journal would end up reading something like this, I’m amused to say: “Shadowheart dyed her hair today. Needed a change. It looks nice.” Ends there, even though more exciting things had happened that day like fighting off a Githyanki ambush. He’s definitely not starting a writing career anytime soon.

💫 - What is your favourite fact about this character and why?

My favorite fact about Whisper is that he’s incredibly gentle. I think it’s so cute how his soft-hearted nature contrasts with how he appears to others and how he fights. He gardens, a hobby that requires a careful touch. He speaks quietly hence his decided name. He loves kids. He cares for small creatures like frogs that he is large enough to step on because he doesn’t like the thought of doing so! I love him for that damned kindness of his, and his kindness doesn’t hold him back. I have often been told by my parents that kindness is a weakness, and I think Whisper is a perfect character for me to try to display why it’s not.
