Some of the flame tetra fry I fished out were just too small to go in the tank, they would be eaten. Attempting to raise them in jar, here they are hunting baby brine shrimp. I added two snails to help me keep it clean but what do I know, this is the first time I'm keeping fish.

the morally questionable relationship between John Price and the darling little starlet he picks up off of the street during the golden age of Hollywood would be such a treat.
because producer!John Price is known as the best of the best in Hollywood. He has an eye for talent, they say, and a keen ability for spotting the diamonds amongst the rubble.
And of all the stars in the world, he sets his sights on you. Pretty little thing. Bright and blinding—Betelgeuse glimmering on the precipice of a supernova. All you need is a little push. A backer. A chance. And he gives it to you. Ushers you into stardom with a crooked grin around the butt of a cigar and a wicked gleam in his eyes that you—in all your artless, sheltered naivete—chalk up to pride.
The problem with sweet little darlings like you is that they all sing the same song. Yearn for the same thing. And it's so easy to mistake his interest as fatherly when the name on your birth certificate reads John Doe. And when he tells you his name is John Price, well—
It's fate, isn't it?
He told you he's been married once but had no children, and the longing in his eyes must be for the family he's never got a chance to have. So, you promise to give it to him.
Problem is: the devil lives in Hollywood and drinks his whiskey neat. You told him you'd be his family, giving him the one that left him behind. Signed your soul to blue eyes for the big screen.
Not that you'd know this, of course. To you, John is a sad widower with a heart of gold. Your overprotective bear who snarls at the directors and actors who get a little too handsy with you on set. His darling little star.
It's easy to wave everyone off when they express concern about these blurring lines between employee and employer. Boss and—
Father figure.
They just don't know him like you do.
And how funny, you tell him one evening with a wry twist to your lips, eyes swimming with sheltered mischief. They thought we were lovers, Mr Price. Isn't that just the damnedest thing?
This little quip has the opposite effect, and if only you looked a little bit closer at the gleam in his eye, the clench in his jaw, you might have seen the storm gathering on the horizon before it hit. Instead of laughing with you at the director's gall, this hilarious joke, John feels you slipping through his fingers just a little bit more. And that simply won't do.
You want a father figure? Then fine. That's what he'll be. Convenient, of course, because he's been thinking about fatherhood a lot lately, too. It's only natural that he decides to cash in on that promise you made all those years ago to make him a proud dad.
#waking up from the dredges of a steep depressive episode to bring you this soggy limp fish of an idea#captain john price x reader#john price x reader#this idea might be nothing rn but im gonna nurture it so hard the moment my brain figures out its faulty wiring#and bring you the nastiest noncon father figure breeding fic youve ever read

Breeding African Cichlids - Tips and Techniques for Success!
Breeding African cichlids can be a rewarding and fascinating experience for aquarium enthusiasts. These fish are known for their vibrant colors, unique patterns, and interesting behavior, which makes them a popular choice for breeding. Here are some tips for successfully breeding African cichlids.
First, it is important to choose the right breeding pair. This means selecting a male and female that are healthy, mature, and have compatible temperaments. You should also choose a species that is known for being relatively easy to breed, such as the popular Mbuna cichlid.
Once you have chosen your breeding pair, it is important to provide them with the right environment. This means creating a suitable breeding tank with the right temperature, water quality, and substrate. African cichlids prefer slightly alkaline water with a pH between 7.5 and 8.5, and a temperature between 75-82°F. You should also provide plenty of hiding places and decorations to create a natural habitat.
To encourage breeding, it is important to create the right conditions. This means providing a balanced diet that includes high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods, and supplements such as vitamins and minerals. You should also simulate seasonal changes by gradually increasing the temperature and changing the lighting in the tank.
Once your breeding pair has spawned, it is important to protect the eggs and fry from other fish in the tank. You can do this by removing the eggs and placing them in a separate tank, or by providing plenty of hiding places and decorations for the fry to hide in. It is also important to provide frequent water changes and maintain good water quality to ensure the health and survival of the fry.
Breeding African cichlids can be a challenging but rewarding experience for aquarium enthusiasts. With the right breeding pair, environment, and conditions, you can successfully breed these beautiful and fascinating fish and enjoy watching the development and growth of their offspring.

sockeye salmon
And the final guy in the new gouache fish gang is here! I mean I painted him months ago, but then, as always, I forgot to post him :'D The in(famous) horny fish!
#salmon#sockeye salmon#fish#gouache#illustration#art#There's this one dumb thing about these guys that's been bothering me all my life#besides their unusual transformation - their latin name is “Oncorhynchus nerka”#so they're called just “nerka fish” in Polish. Thing is#nerka means kidney in Polish and I always thought that t's named after it... funnily enough thar part of the name is of Russian origin and#basically#tied to the breeding season transformation of these guys) :' D that was a really random thing to mention but fr I had no idea why they're n

Matinicus Rock Light, Penobscot Bay, Matinicus, Maine. Hunting and eating puffins was common practice in Maine over 100 years ago. The first lighthouse keepers on the rock were also wardens, hired by The American Ornithologists Union. They were tasked with protecting The United State's last remaining pair of Atlantic puffins, as well as many other commonly hunted seabird species. Today, Matinicus Rock is owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and is cooperatively managed by the National Audubon Society and MCINWR. Thanks to their work and the work of Project Puffin, there are over 500 pairs of nesting puffins, plus 400 pairs of razorbills, 1,000 pairs of terns, about 700 pairs of laughing gulls, and more.

Good News - June 8-14
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $Kaybarr1735! And if you tip me and give me a way to contact you, at the end of the month I'll send you a link to all of the articles I found but didn't use each week!
1. Rare foal born on estate for first time in 100 years
“The Food Museum at Abbot's Hall in Stowmarket, Suffolk, is home to a small number of Suffolk Punch horses - a breed considered critically endangered by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. A female foal was born on Saturday and has been named Abbots Juno to honour the last horse born at the museum in 1924. [...] Juno is just one of 12 fillies born so far this year in the country and she could potentially help produce more of the breed in the future.”
2. The cement that could turn your house into a giant battery
“[Scientists] at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found a way of creating an energy storage device known as a supercapacitor from three basic, cheap materials – water, cement and a soot-like substance called carbon black. [... Supercapacitators] can charge much more quickly than a lithium ion battery and don't suffer from the same levels of degradation in performance. [... Future applications of this concrete might include] roads that store solar energy and then release it to recharge electric cars wirelessly as they drive along a road [... and] energy-storing foundations of houses.”
3. New road lights, fewer dead insects—insect-friendly lighting successfully tested
“Tailored and shielded road lights make the light source almost invisible outside the illuminated area and significantly reduces the lethal attraction for flying insects in different environments. [...] The new LED luminaires deliver more focused light, reduce spill light, and are shielded above and to the side to minimize light pollution. [... In contrast,] dimming the conventional lights by a factor of 5 had no significant effect on insect attraction.”
4. When LGBTQ health is at stake, patient navigators are ready to help
“[S]ome health care systems have begun to offer guides, or navigators, to get people the help they need. [... W]hether they're just looking for a new doctor or taking the first step toward getting gender-affirming care, "a lot of our patients really benefit from having someone like me who is there to make sure that they are getting connected with a person who is immediately going to provide a safe environment for them." [... A navigator] also connects people with LGBTQ community organizations, social groups and peer support groups.”
5. Tech company to help tackle invasive plant species
“Himalayan balsam has very sugary nectar which tempts bees and other pollinators away from native plants, thereby preventing them from producing seed. It outcompetes native plant species for resources such as sunlight, space and nutrients. [...] The volunteer scheme is open to all GWT WilderGlos users who have a smartphone and can download the Crowdorsa app, where they can then earn up to 25p per square meter of Balsam removed.”
6. [Fish & Wildlife] Service Provides Over $14 Million to Benefit Local Communities, Clean Waterways and Recreational Boaters
“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is distributing more than $14 million in Clean Vessel Act grants to improve water quality and increase opportunities for fishing, shellfish harvests and safe swimming in the nation’s waterways. By helping recreational boaters properly dispose of sewage, this year’s grants will improve conditions for local communities, wildlife and recreational boaters in 18 states and Guam.”
7. Bornean clouded leopard family filmed in wild for first time ever
“Camera traps in Tanjung Puting National Park in Indonesian Borneo have captured a Bornean clouded leopard mother and her two cubs wandering through a forest. It's the first time a family of these endangered leopards has been caught on camera in the wild, according [to] staff from the Orangutan Foundation who placed camera traps throughout the forest to learn more about the elusive species.”
8. Toy library helps parents save money 'and the planet'
“Started in 2015 by Annie Berry, South Bristol's toy library aims to reduce waste and allow more children access to more - and sometimes expensive - toys. [...] Ms Berry partnered with the St Philips recycling centre on a pilot project to rescue items back from landfill, bringing more toys into the library. [...] [P]eople use it to support the environment, take out toys that they might not have the space for at home or be able to afford, and allow children to pick non-gender specific toys.”
9. Chicago Receives $3M Grant to Inventory Its Trees and Create Plan to Manage City’s Urban Forest
“The Chicago Park District received a $1.48 million grant [“made available through the federal Inflation Reduction Act”] to complete a 100% inventory of its estimated 250,000 trees, develop an urban forestry management plan and plant 200 trees in disadvantaged areas with the highest need. As with the city, development of the management plan is expected to involve significant community input.”
10. Strong Public Support for Indigenous Co-Stewardship Plan for Bears Ears National Monument
“[The NFW has a] plan to collaboratively steward Bears Ears National Monument to safeguard wildlife, protect cultural resources, and better manage outdoor recreation. The plan was the result of a two-year collaboration among the five Tribes of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and upholds Tribal sovereignty, incorporates Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and responsibly manages the monument for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation while ensuring the continued health of the ecosystem.”

I spent hours, hours… collecting all the fry and fish from my patio pond. They could probably have been outside for a while longer but I rather have it done in time than trying to find all the fish in a panic. All 10 of the original fish were found along with 60+ fry… worse than guppies, need to rehome a few.
But I bet guppies or platies are a lot easier to collect at the end of the summer.
(Need to practice taking tank pics)

hey, is anybody a goldfish breeder? i think i may just have found something special here...
it looks like the same mutation that gave rise to double-tail bettas? you can see from the video that the lobes are all straight and in line with the spine, unlike simply a failed butterfly-tail.
so my question is, do i have a potential new breed progenitor here, or a known deformity that's usually culled?
regardless, when i pointed the mutation out to my boss, he said i could have him/her (i didn't think to check the vent and they're too young to tell from body shape), so now the mutant baby is *my* mutant baby

Daily fish fact #802
Oranda goldfish!
It is a breed of goldfish that has a distinct fleshy growth on its head called a crown or a wen. The wen may require special care from the owner of the fish (like careful trimming), as it can become overgrown or infected!
