4t2 Lovestruck Expansion Pack
Tumblr media
A fruit of our labour with @platinumaspiration (featuring moral support and useful advice from @lordcrumps 😀) is finally here!
Key features:
138 objects 24 beddings 7 seasonal plants 9 windows 6 doors 10 fences 2 arches 2 columns 69 floors 199 walls
Smoothed out meshes, no shine (except when necessary), quarter tile placeable;
All garden plants are seasonal, have undersides and all original recolors;
Fences are included but don’t show in the collection file because it’s not possible to add them.
Everything that doesn't look like deco and is meant to function - is functional (all lights light up; fans are animated; surfaces have slots; doors, windows and curtains have diagonal versions, book pile is functional, costume trunk is a wardrobe etc etc...);
Thank's to Nikki's perseverance, the guitar is functional too (requires Argon's Custom Instruments mod, included in the archive);
Picnic table was cloned from an object by Inge Jones. In order for sims to sit on the bench, you need either my edited version of Inge's Hidden Picnic Chair (called Tvickiesims_ijHiddenPicnicChair, included in the archive) or the original one from the link above). You'll also need her other mod called "IsChairABooth" (included in the archive).
My edit of Inge Jones' Hidden Picnic Chair was cleaned of some resources, has a new mesh, doesn't contain textures, is easier to grab and click, costs 0 (you already payed for the table) and becomes invisible in live mode (inspired by @lamare-sims's Invisible Kitchen Surface);
Wall fan and water tower reduce bills;
Armchairs and sofas have morphs (Nikki has my eternal gratitude💗);
Heart bed (Vibromatic Nuevo) vibrates and lights up 😏, all thanks to Nikki;
Basic Breakup Double Bed was turned into a blanket (works with @lamare-sims's Unmade Bed mod);
Most wallpapers were cut in half to preserve their patterns (thus their quantity). These walls have clear numbering system and will appear close to each other in catalog;
Romance Rendezvous Bar Back's mirror has wonky reflection. It can't be fixed;
Everything is separated between two collection files - one for buy mode and the other for build mode;
@lordcrumps' shadow file is required for the shadows to work (included, delete if you already have one copy in your downloads folder).

The following weeks were filled with interviews and background tests in between work shifts; you were mentally and physically exhausted.
The vet had pre-warned you with how many hoops you’d have to jump through, but this was more than you had previously anticipated.
They really weren't joking when they said they don't let just anyone adopt a hybrid.
Today was your home inspection. The whole morning had been spent deep cleaning every inch of your home and making it look like something you'd see walking through IKEA.
Once you were done, your apartment was spotless - a bit too spotless.
You sat down on your couch and shuffled around a bit to make it seem at least like someone lived here.
Admittedly, when they told you they would be visiting your home, you'd spent hours searching the internet for how to make your place more comfortable and appropriate.
Looking at different adoption forums to give you an idea of what the inspectors would look for as hazards and immediately removing them from your home.
Candles were bought, lit and then blown out because you didn't like the scent.
Eventually you baked some cookies and left them in the oven after reading that it was an old realtor trick to make a place seem more homely.
Never before had you made such an effort to make your home so appealing.
There was just enough time to shower and get dressed before they arrived, even then, your hair was still slightly damp at the ends when the first knock hit your door.
You gave it one last ruffle with the towel before you opened the door, not wanting to keep them waiting too long and having your first impression be one of tardiness.
"Hello!" you smiled brightly as you swung the door open, seeing the vet who introduced you to Jayce the first time - you'd come to learn that her name was Dr Nala - with a man you'd never met before. His expression was pretty stern.
She greeted you with the same enthusiasm. As she stepped over the threshold of your apartment, your heart thumped in your chest, this was the last sprint to the finish line.
"Have you been baking?" she asked almost immediately and you tried to hide the grin that crept up on your face, not wanting to seem too keen, "I have!" you confimed.
She nodded and continued to follow you through to the living room area, "I'll admit, I don't think I'm very good at it, but when you follow a recipe it's pretty simple," you rambled nervously.
You gestured to the couch for them to take a seat, "Oh, would you like a drink? Coffee? Tea? Water?" the speed at which you were talking wasn't normal for you, and you had to mentally tell yourself to slow down.
"Water would be lovely," Dr Nala spoke gently, but the man just shook his head no.
Hurrying to the kitchen you grabbed your nicest glass and filled it with water, your had was visibly shaking. Inhaling slowly through your nose and out through your mouth again, you took a second to compose yourself.
They had only just got here, you needed to show them that you were capable of looking after someone else, and you weren't going to do that if you were falling apart already.
"I've got this," you muttered to yourself, "I've got this!" you repeated with more confidence.
Handing her the glass of water and sliding a coaster onto the table in front of her to put the glass on, you took a seat in the armchair adjacent to them.
She eyed the coaster carefully and sipped her water, the silence was killing you.
"Your apartment is lovely," she complimented after she'd swallowed her sip, but you could tell she wasn't done, "Is it always this tidy?" she asked kindly, but bluntly.
You let out a small laugh, but when you realised it was a serious question your mind went into overdrive - what was the correct answer?
"For the most part," you settled on, "I try to keep it clean as much as I can, but I'm not obsessed with it being like this all the time," you said with honesty.
The man, who was yet to speak or introduce himself, started taking notes and your heart dropped. That must've been a wrong answer.
"But I'm not a slob or anything!" you quickly redacted what you said, trying to make up for any blunder you'd already made.
"May we have a look around?" Dr Nala asked politely, and you didn't know if you were thankful or not that she didn't address what you'd said.
The speed at which you stood up was too-eager, "Of course!".
'Chill, you need to chill!' Your inner monologue screamed at you.
The two stood almost in unison and followed you out of the room, "As I said to you when we first met, it's nothing big or fancy, just a one-bed apartment," you showed them your bedroom first.
They glanced around the room; one starting with the left-hand-side and the other starting with the right, meeting in the middle at some point to cross over - whilst you stood awkwardly with your arm out like you were presenting a gameshow prize.
"So, this is my bed, obviously," you tried to make it humorous but were really worried it didn't come across that way.
Dr Nala hummed, "Have you thought about where Jayce would sleep?" she turned to you, giving you her full attention and awaited your answer.
"Uh-" you started. No, you hadn't. You'd been panicking so much about passing all these exams that you hadn't given it a moments notice, "-Wherever he wants, I guess?" you couldn't have sounded more unsure.
A dog bed just felt wrong and dehumanising. Yes, technically he was going to be your 'pet', but imagining him trying to curl up on one of those small circular beds on the floor didn't sit right with you.
The idea of finding one big enough to fit him was even worse.
She raised an eyebrow at you, and you knew for sure that wasn't the right answer to give.
"I mean, honestly, I thought he'd like the couch. It's pretty comfortable, and a lot of my research said that's what hybrids prefer!" you began to ramble again.
She watched you as you spoke, "I guess, my plan was to ask him the next time I saw him." you confessed, "And if he didn't like what I have here already then we'd go together to get something he did like," you were thinking aloud and for once you weren't trying to think of the perfect answer.
"Your research?" she repeated your words back to you and you felt a pang of embarrassment. "Yeah! I've been looking up things when I've had the time, to make sure I know what I'm doing before he-" you stopped yourself, "If, he gets here," you corrected.
She stared at you for a moment before admiring your bedroom again, "You care a lot," she commented and left the room, showing herself the rest of your home.
She walked into the bathroom, there was a shower-bath and the essentials with a small roof window for ventilation.
"Is this the only bathroom?" she pointed at nowhere in particular inside the room, "Uh-huh," you nodded, but when she didn't say anything else and simply left, you wondered if one bathroom was enough.
Finally, they moved into the kitchen, observing the area the same way they had every other room.
There was an island in the centre that doubled up as a table with the high stools you'd put there.
"Have you thought about meals?" she asked as her small heels made a clicking sound against the tiles.
It was strange to think that this woman was the same person who had been so excited to show you the hybrids in the first place.
"Yeah, protein is a priority but he'd be able to eat the same things as me as long as it's balanced correctly," you practically regurgitated a sentence that you'd seen online.
She nodded slowly, "He does have his likes and dislikes-" she started to say but you interrupted her, "-I know," you opened a draw and pulled out a notebook where you'd copied the things he didn't like from the file she gave you and slid it across the counter to her.
The pair shared a glance as she read your notes.
"Okay, well we wont take up any more of your time," she smiled again, and the suddenness of their departure made your heart sink, it couldn't be a good sign.
You hurriedly put the notebook back into your draw, "Is it okay? My home I mean?" you were speaking quickly again, "Is it suitable? I know it's small, and he's, well, big, but there's a park close by and I need to get out mor-", she interrupted you by saying your name before you started to spiral too much.
"The main purpose of these visits is to make sure the home is safe and welcoming, the main factor being the person living in it," she chuckled, her pleasant demeanour returning.
She tapped her fingers on the counter delicately and glanced around the room, "It's evident that you care a lot, and want the best for him, and that is the most important thing. I have no doubt he will be very happy here with you,".
"Does that mean I'm approved?" you held your breath, "Well, there's paperwork to fill in, but I see no reason why he wouldn't-", "-thank you, thank you, thank you," you shamelessly jumped off of the floor with excitement.
There were happy tears building up in your waterline that you hadn't expected to be there, just over a month ago you had no clue that Jayce existed, now you were the happiest you'd been in a long time.
"Don't thank us, thank you for giving him a second chance," her tone was kind and full of sincerity.
"Could I try one of those cookies?" the man who'd been taking notes finally spoke. You laughed and nodded, wiping at your eyes to make sure you wouldn't actually cry, and plated the cookies that were still sat in the oven.
He ate one happily and hummed to show his enjoyment. Goodbyes were said and they promptly left, taking the anxiety and weight of the encounter off of your shoulders with them.
The following days were torture. A monotonous cycle of getting up, going to work, spending the evening alone, going to bed and repeating.
Wednesday was the day you were bringing him home.
They'd suggested you visit him one more time so you could let him know the good news yourself, but your workload had increased tenfold due to someone being on maternity leave.
Oftentimes you were working through your lunch break, and the sanctuary didn't allow visits after 6pm.
However, you'd booked Wednesday off as holiday and you were collecting him at 4pm, giving you most of the day to buy some last minute things.
By the time you'd done all of your shopping and put it in the right place inside your home, it was almost time to leave.
All too eager to see him again, you left early - driving perhaps a little too fast along the roads, you made one stop along the way, but you made it there safely.
"Hello, I'm here for-" you started as you walked into reception but they were already expecting you, "-Big day today!" the male vet from your last visit brimmed with excitement.
You chuckled at his enthusiasm and nodded, swallowing back how nervous you were.
He lead you through the corridors that were all too familiar to you at this point, but you took a new turn away from the sanctuary you were used to.
The delay in your footsteps as you slowed at the corner you normally took didn't go unnoticed by him, "He's not in there," he called from the other hallway.
Twisting your head back in the other direction, you continued to follow him, "We have a different pick up point for the ones leaving us, it would be too distressing for them and the other residents to do it in the communal area," he explained.
"Yeah, that makes sense," you shook your head, annoyed at yourself that there was yet another thing you didn't think of, but you didn't have time to self-scold.
He stopped at a singular white door and you felt like your lungs had rolled themselves up like when you're trying to get the last bits of toothpaste out of the tube, all ability to breathe was gone.
The vet grinned at you as he pushed open the door, allowing you to step in first.
For a second you thought your knees were going to give out on you. You couldn't remember the last time you were this nervous.
What if he didn't want to go with you? What if he didn't like you as much as you liked him? What if they were forcing him to leave so they could say they were able to get the feral hybrid adopted?
You shook your head to try and get rid of the bad thoughts but they swam around in your brain like algae in a pond, clinging to every surface.
When you finally entered the room he was in the corner next to the window overlooking the parking lot with his arms folded across his chest, he'd watched you arrive.
"Hey," you spoke softly and made sure your tone was as friendly as it could possibly be to not startle him.
He turned his head towards you and the side of his mouth twitched upwards into a smile for just a second, and you felt a tiny piece of worry fall from the mountain you'd created.
"I assume you know why I'm here?" you queried and slowly approached him, he nodded and his tail swished slowly behind him, but the vet vocally responded for him, "Oh yes, we told him yesterday!", causing his tail to stop just as quickly as it had started.
His interruption irritated you. There was a small part of you that wanted to remind him that you hadn't asked him.
Instead, you tried to not let him sour this moment and kept your focus on Jayce. Watching his body language and facial expressions intently for any signs of discomfort or distress.
"Are you okay with it?" you asked him quietly, your voice unintentionally more hushed than usual so though you were trying to make sure that your words only fell on his ears.
He gazed at you, not really giving too much of an indication of a reply to your question; he seemed somewhat indifferent to the idea.
The pang in your chest returned, it felt like your muscles were closing in around your heart - squeezing just enough to allow it to keep beating but hard enough to make it hurt.
Was this your sign that he didn't like you? That he didn't want to leave?
You shuffled forward but made sure to keep your distance, "If home isn't with me, that's okay," you focused on keeping your voice strong and confident, but couldn't tell if you were failing.
One of his ears perked up when you said 'home', leaving the tips to bounce at the sudden muscle movement.
You noticed it but didn't want to give yourself any false hope, instead you let the sensation flutter across your chest.
"I'd really like it if you did," the sleeve of your hoodie was suddenly very interesting. "But it's your choice," if you were paying attention to him, you would've noticed how his eyebrows lost their tension at the sound of your sincerity.
Inhaling, you braved meeting his eye, "Do you want to come home with me?".
His ear twitched again but other than that his expression remained unchanged, until he nodded.
It was subtle and quick; down and up, down and up, but it was certain.
You exhaled and felt instantly lighter, "I'm glad," you tried to let yourself relax, the first hurdle was done, "Where are your things?". Other than him and the empty table and chairs, the room was barren.
"He doesn't have any belongings," the annoying observer said from the corner he was lurking in, "What do you mean? He has clothes and...", you stopped to think, "What about his chess set?".
"They're property of the sanctuary, they can't go with him," he smiled, but that was the last thing you wanted to do in this moment.
With gritted teeth, you glanced between Jayce and the vet. Apart from the basic necessities to survive, he truly didn't have anything to hold onto here.
How could you have been so ignorant to ask him if he was happy here before? How could he be? The entire structure was a constant reminder that nothing he touched was his to keep. That it could be taken away at the click of someone else's fingers.
Even his own freedom was not his.
That stopped today. You'd make sure of that.
"What about his boat?", "What boat?". The desire to lose your temper was strong, but you knew that would get you nowhere.
"The boat that he made with Viktor?" there was a new tension to your voice that he should've taken for a warning, but unfortunately, he was as oblivious as he was ignorant.
His eyes found the corner of the room as he feigned thought, "I don't recal-", "It's on the top shelf of the cabinet closest to the door," you didn't allow him space to speak.
The look you gave him dared him to try and dispute it with you, "Once we have that, we'll be out of your hair," you forced the polite and soft lint to your voice.
He opened his mouth to speak, but his eyes drifted to the shadow behind you and it promptly closed. He managed to mutter a simple, "I'll take a look," before he left the visiting room.
The air felt calmer now that he was out of sight, but that creeping feeling of anxiety clawed it's way up your throat as you realised that Jayce had witnessed that whole scene.
"I'm sorry," you turned your body to face him but still avoided his eye - instead finding an interest in the scuffed up black brogues he wore, "I'm not usually like...that," you tried to explain, "I just know it means a lot to you and I couldn't stand the idea of them keeping it,".
Jayce observed you as you spoke. He felt no malice in your words, not even when you were addressing the man who made his ears hurt.
He noticed how you rubbed your own arm for comfort, and how you avoided eye contact with him - he wasn't surprised, most people did. He wished you wouldn't; your eyes were kind.
When you found the ground more interesting than him, he resided to the window. All he could do now was wait.
"This one?" broke the silence, alongside the sound of the door swinging shut.
The vet was holding the mechanical boat between his fingers by a thin part of the mast, and a part of you knew he was doing it on purpose.
"Yes, that's it, thank you!" you quickly took it out of his grasp and nestled it into your own like a baby bird that you'd found injured on the ground - like it was the most precious thing in the world.
The sooner you removed Jayce from this building the better.
Something that hadn't exactly crossed your mind was how he would be on the journey home.
You took the lead with him trailing behind you at a larger distance than you'd hoped for, you suppose it was natural for him to be uneasy being outside. It wasn't clear as to whether the vets let them go outside of the sanctuary.
Someone like Jayce probably wasn't given that luxury, with his size and obvious athletic build, they would stand no chance of getting him back if he decided to run.
Influenced by your own train of thought, you peered over your shoulder half-expecting him to not be there anymore. Much to your joy, he was.
Opening the door to your car for him and waiting for him to catch up to you, the thought occurred to you; had he ridden in a car before?
Surprisingly, he sat down in the passenger seat with no issue. Apart from having to duck quite significantly to not hit his head.
Once you'd taken your own seat and closing the door softly, he mirrored your movements, clicking his own door shut.
His nose twitched as he scanned his surroundings. There was a sweet smell that tingled his nostrils and filled his senses, but he couldn't place it.
He checked the seats behind him but it wasn't coming from there. The space between his eyebrows wrinkled in frustration at not being able to locate the scent, it was surrounding him.
"I, uh-" your voice drew him out of his search, "I got you coffee on the way here," you were holding up a light brown cup and he noticed that there was an identical cup in the holder separating your legs from his.
He wrapped his fingers around it and accepted the gift, the cup seemingly significantly smaller in his hand compared to yours.
"I'm sorry if it's cold, we were a little longer than I thought we'd be," he lifted the lid of the cup and appreciated the remnants of an intricate flower design in the foam, parts of it had dissolved whilst it had sat in the car.
He inhaled above the liquid, the scent not dissimilar to the one that clouded his brain, but there were elements missing. As if this was one ingredient in the recipe.
He tentatively sipped the coffee, it was luke-warm, but he didn't mind - it was a gift from you.
The butterflies in your stomach fluttered up into your chest as you watched him; his eyes closed and enjoying his drink. You'd had the coffee the sanctuary offered, and it wasn't good. So, you wanted to treat him to something of quality to start your journey together off on the right foot.
When he stopped for breath you chuckled at the milky foam that had clung to the ends of his moustache, the pleasant sound of your laugh turning his attention to you.
"There's- you've got a little bit there," you tapped your top lip and he quickly wiped it with the back of his hand, missing some bubbles.
Subconsciously, you picked up a napkin and reached for him, intending to clean up the patches he'd missed but he moved back sharply, his ears pressed flat against his head and eyes narrowing with suspicion.
Your breath caught in your throat, a wave of guilt crashing over you. Instead, you left your hand in the air, presenting the napkin for him to take.
"Sorry," you muttered as he slowly took the napkin from in-between your fingers and wiped his mouth.
Be mindful. Let him come to you.
When he seemed to be back to the picture of indifference that you'd come to know, you started the car with a rumble and scrolled through your phone for music to put on for the drive home.
What would he even want to listen to? Did he like music?
Overthinking was going to be the death of you, and you hadn't even tackled getting home yet.
Hitting play, you let shuffle decide for you as you reversed out of the parking lot.
Approximately 10 seconds into the song Jayce leaned over to where your phone was in the holder and pressed the pause icon, the tip of his sharp nail making a pleasant sound against the glass of your phone.
With your concentration being on not hitting any of the other parked cars, or running someone over, you didn't have the opportunity to watch what he was doing.
When the song started from the beginning again, then abruptly stopped and a new song started playing, you knew he'd figured out what each button did.
He eventually settled on a slower song with quieter female vocals and leaned back again, placing his coffee cup into the holder next to yours, and you were on your way home.
The time was closer to 5:15pm and with the colder weather seeping in, it was getting darker earlier than usual, but it worked in your favour as somehow you'd timed this journey almost perfectly.
Whilst you couldn't enjoy the scenery as much as you would've liked to, the orangey-yellow hue of the setting sun traced over the road and cars in front of you.
When you eventually hit the rush-hour traffic and your car became stationary in the line of other vehicles just wanting to get home after a long days work, you allowed yourself to take in the world around you.
It wasn't anything too glamourous, and you'd driven along this road multiple times in the past, but somehow it felt different this time.
The city skyline was silhouetted by the backdrop of the golden hour sun, leaving nothing but tall blacked-out shapes for you to view. It was as if someone had stolen an oil painting and pinned it to the outside of your window.
But the vision that caught your eye was Jayce.
His eyes were closed so gently you may have thought he'd fallen asleep if not for his fingers tapping his thigh to the beat of the music playing. The sun rays were trailing through the glass of the window and laying delicately across his face, highlighting freckles that you hadn't noticed before.
He was at peace, basking in the last pieces of warmth this day had to offer him, and for once his face was relaxed - no scowl or caution on his features.
How long had it been since he'd been allowed a moment of tranquillity to truly appreciate something so minimal, something that you'd taken for granted?
Out of the corner of your eye, you spotted the line of cars starting to move forward again and you debated whether you should hold up the traffic so he could stay like that for just a little while longer, but the honking of horns wasn't worth it.
The car slowly started to move again and, as you'd expected, he opened his eyes at the sensation - for a second you caught how the sunlight refracted in his irises, illuminating the colour to create the illusion of liquid gold.
You wished you could admire them for longer, but with home so close, you didn't want to shatter the moment.
Unlocking the front door was proving to be the hardest task yet. Your hand would not stop shaking.
The constant tremble that plagued your wrist and fingers made it almost impossible to slide the key into the lock.
Did you tidy everything up before you left? What if he didn't like the space?
Well, he'd just climbed three flights of stairs with you and didn't seem the slightest bit out of breath, so he could always run away if he was that offended by your interior decorating.
The door creaked as you held it open for him, "This is us," you said in the softest voice you could muster - the word 'us' felt foreign on your tongue.
He jutted his chin forward, gesturing for you to enter first. Maybe he was just being cautious?
You walked into your apartment the same way you had every day for as long as you'd lived here, putting your bag down on the table and turning towards him.
He stood in the doorway unmoving, his shoulders and the top of his head almost touching the frame, surveying the room with hooded eyes.
Your best guess would've been that he was checking for any dangers, or simply mustering up the courage to breach the threshold of his new home.
His eyes met yours and you realised you were staring. That probably wouldn't help encourage him.
"Take your time, I need to get something," you tried to hold your head high and straighten your back as if the weight of worry wasn't compressing your spine.
You stepped out of his line of sight and into the hallway that connected to your bedroom and bathroom. Turning right, you chose the former - you'd have to remember to close your door when you slept from now on.
A quick inhale to try and starve off the nerves that lingered, then you picked up a pile of things you'd purchased earlier in the day.
There was a doubt in your head that if you glanced towards the front door that it would still be open but the doorframe empty. If you didn't look then, if you were right, you could live in ignorance.
You exited your bedroom and turned left towards the living room again, but hit a solid wall and stumbled backwards - it was your fault for keeping your eyeline on the things in your arms.
A stupid thought created an unnecessary fear of your own front door and had caused you to slam into a building structure that had been there for a year.
But you hadn't. When your eyelids opened from the shock, you were exactly where you thought you'd be - your back on the floor, staring up at the ceiling of your hallway.
Jayce stood as the blockade between yourself and the living room. He glanced down at you with a cocked eyebrow and a crinkled nose of confusion. He'd followed you once you were out of sight and just so happened to collide with you.
With him staring down at you from such a height, you understood why the other hybrids at the sanctuary didn't invade his space. He was intimidating, even if he wasn't trying to be.
His shadow cast over you and shrouded you with ease, and his bright eyes pierced through the darkness like the sight on a gun lining up it's target.
Your chest moved up and down rapidly, your mouth going dry, the familiar feeling of inferiority fell over you the same way it had when you were playing chess against him.
He stepped forward and your breath hitched in your throat, images of his sharp canines and pointed nails flashed in front of your eyes - was this the type of mistake you heard about in true crime podcasts?
He saw the glossy fear in your eyes. He saw it in a lot of people, he'd become accustom to the gaze of alarm staring back at him.
Something about that tension in your eyes, paired with how helpless and small you were on the ground made his heart beat harder and his mouth salivate. For what reason? He was unsure.
He shook his head - his fluffy ears waving with the motion - and he averted his gaze as he lowered himself to the ground, bending at the knees until he knelt on them.
As his shadow shrunk so did your worry. You were unable to move for longer than you would've liked, it reminded you of a rabbit in headlights.
When he started to pick up the pieces of clothing and paper bags you'd dropped you finally snapped out of it, getting up off your back and helping him collect the discarded objects.
"T-Thank you," it came out as a tremble so you cleared your throat.
He didn't hand you the things, instead he backed out of the hallway and stepped to the side so you could pass.
You shuffled past him and gently dropped everything onto the couch, "These are actually for you!".
The assortment laid in a mess on the couch so you tidied them into piles as you spoke, "I didn't know what you'd like, or what would fit you, so I had to guess," you placed the clothes onto one cushion, and the paper bags on the other.
He picked up one of the tops you'd bought for him and held it up, by visuals alone it seemed like it would fit him. He pinched the fabric of the white button-up shirt he was wearing and looked at you.
"You don't have to wear them if you don't want to!" you stepped back from the couch to give him some space, "But I thought you'd like to have a change of clothes, something more comfortable," you called behind you as you entered the kitchen.
It was getting late; you were slightly hungry, and you weren't sure when he last ate so you pre-heated the oven and got to work.
After around thirty minutes of quiet - apart from the sound of the oven humming and water boiling - you grew worried.
You were sure he would be okay, but were you doing the right thing by leaving him to his own devices so soon after he got here?
Most of the forums and blogs you'd read told you that it was best to let them find their own way around the home. In some cases they recommended isolating them to one room until they were used to the smells and sounds of their new home.
Jayce was intelligent, which was great but it causes other problems to arise.
He'd picked up on things just from simply observing you doing them once, whether you were aware of it or not. Which posed the question of, was he like other hybrids?
Would keeping him in your living room for a few days be helpful, or would that freak him out- no. You promised yourself and him that he would have his freedom, which meant he could go where ever he wanted when he wanted.
Once you'd plated the food and slid it over to the counter where the stools were, you thought you'd better go and find out what he was doing and why the apartment was so quiet.
"Jayce?" your voice carried through the hall and hit his ears like a song. It was the first time you'd called him by his name, and he wanted to hear it again.
It wasn't condescending or overly high pitched like how the vets would say his name, you said it with sincerity and kindness. One he didn't hear very often be associated with himself.
When you found him still in the living room, you were greeted by the sight of his bare back, toned and muscular with scars scattered over the tanned skin. "Oh, I'm sorry!" you apologised for the fourth time today.
Your hands shot up to your eyes to give him some privacy, and you turned around leaving almost as quickly as you'd entered, "Foods ready, it's in the kitchen whenever you're done!".
Eventually, he joined you in the kitchen, having now put on a plain black t-shirt and changed into jeans instead of the tattered white shirt and suit trousers he'd arrived in.
As he entered the kitchen you noticed he was holding one of the t-shirts you'd bought for him. It was a light grey long sleeved polo. His eyes flitted up to yours as he handed it to you sheepishly.
You cocked your head with confusion and looked at the fabric, "Did you not like this one?" you asked as he slinked onto the stool in front of one of the plates.
"I didn't know what you liked-" you held up the polo in front of you and stopped mid-sentence when you realised why he had handed it back to you, and more importantly, why he was being avoidant.
There was a tear across the chest, the soft fabric frayed as evidence of a battle lost against a muscular build.
"That's okay!" you tried to hide the chuckle that wanted to leave you, "At least I know what size not to get you from now,". He visibly relaxed, his shoulders lowered as they lost some of their tension.
You folded up the shirt and put it on the counter next to your phone. Sewing it up was always an option, or you could rip it into pieces and use it as dish cloths?
He seemed more comfortable now, chewing on the chicken you'd made slowly as if he was savouring the texture and flavour with every bite.
Despite his nature, he slowly and cleanly ate the food you'd prepared, there was no trepidation about using cutlery either. So you were beginning to wonder if he was actually as feral as the vet had described.
The atmosphere was pleasant. For once you weren't unhappy with someone else being in your space, normally you'd be relatively uncomfortable when another person invaded your home, but there was a familiarity with Jayce.
Other than his large frame being slightly out of place at your counter, it was as if he'd always been there, part of the furniture.
Your train of thought was disrupted by the sound of your phone vibrating across the hard counter top.
The screen lit up with a name you were sure you wouldn't see again, it stopped you in your tracks like flashbang. "I-" you started to say, as if talking to the inanimate object would make it stop.
With a slightly raised heartrate you reached a shaky hand out and tapped the red 'hang up' circle.
Why was he calling you? You'd made it pretty clear that you didn't want any further contact with you after what he'd done, but you couldn't bring yourself to block his contact at the time, and evidentially, you'd forgotten.
Without realising it, you'd been staring at your phone for a good minute before you came back to the present.
You finally tore your eyes away from the screen, "How's the food?" you managed to say, but any sort of response Jayce could've give you was cut short by the annoying buzzing noise echoing on the polished wood.
Jayce's ears flattened against the back of his head at the intrusive sound, and you blinked in semi-disbelief and semi-irritation.
You pressed the hang up button more aggressively, swiped the screen down to turn it onto do not disturb, and placed your phone face down.
"Go away," you whispered to yourself, and Jayce's left ear twitched forward at the hushed tone of your voice.
You stabbed your fork into your food harshly and put it into your mouth, chewing it as you leaned your cheek on your fist.
Thoughts of the past crept their way into your mind, and it was noticeable on your face. You were so occupied with internal questions that you didn't notice Jayce staring at you.
A low huff came from across the table and you looked up at the sound. He was regarding you expectantly; his amber eyes hard and waiting.
"What?" you mumbled with your mouth still full of food. His eyes darted to your phone and then back to your face, and you knew what he was asking, but you weren't sure if you wanted to go there tonight.
Inhaling deeply, you thought about how to respond, "It's nothing," you waved your hand and glanced back down at your almost-empty plate.
He tapped the space on the counter between your plates and twisted his hand to point two fingers upwards towards his face, silently saying, 'Look at me,".
It worked as you re-met his gaze, his stare was still intense but there was a note of curiosity? No, concern perhaps? It was hard to read him.
"Okay, it's not nothing," you sighed, "I'll explain it to you some day, but not tonight, please," you struggled to hold his eye contact, but your response seemed to sedate him as he nodded and returned to his food.
Once you'd finished your meal you put the dishes in the sink and realised it was much later than you thought. "I guess I should give you a quick tour," you laughed as he stayed sat at the counter.
"Obviously this is the kitchen-dining area-" you waved your arm across the room, "-the plates, mugs, and glasses are in here," you opened and closed one of the cupboard door to show him.
"Dry food in here, if you ever get hungry and want a snack," you did the same with the cupboard next to it. "Pots and pans in there," you pointed at one of the lower doors, then to the one next to it, "Cleaning supplies,".
"Fridge, and oven," you put your palm against each metal surfaces respectively, then started walking out of the room, waving for him to follow you, which he did.
He followed you through the living room and into the bathroom, "There's only one bathroom, and unfortunately there's no lock-" you half-closed the door to show him that you weren't lying, "-So, I guess we can have a rule where if the door is closed then don't go in?" you shrugged as you thought out loud, "Or, knock?".
He seemed to understand what you were saying, so you started to head back to the living room, but stopped at your bedroom.
"This is my room-" you reached around the door frame and switched on the light, and realised that you hadn't actually tidied it before his arrival, "-you can come in here if you want, but you probably wont need to," you turned the light off again before he could fully register how messy it was.
Moving back into the living room to grab the blankets and pillows you'd bought for him, "That's everything! I know it's pretty small but it's cosy," you ran your hand nervously over the fluffy brown fabric.
It was complete coincidence, but the blanket you'd bought him was the same shade as his ears and tail.
Extending it out for him to take, you looked up at his face, "I didn't know how or where you'd want to sleep, but the living room is yours," when he took the bedding, you rubbed the back of your neck.
"We can get a different couch if it isn't comfortable, or one of those pull out ones that turn into a bed," you rambled as you mimed what you were describing.
He just stood, holding the bedding, watching you word-vomit to him. He didn't wait for you to stop talking before he started to set up the couch as his bed for the night, and you took that as a sign to stop talking.
It had been a long day filled with new experiences, he was probably very tired.
"I'm going to leave you to it and get ready for bed, there's a toothbrush and stuff for you in the bathroom, use whatever you want," you pulled at the sleeves of your sweater for comfort.
This was the first time you had a guy stay over, granted the situation was vastly different from the usual circumstances someone would think of if you said there was a man staying the night.
But this one was here to stay. It was his home too now, and things were most certainly going to be different from this point on.
"Goodnight, Jayce," you smiled at him softly and gave him space to take everything in. You just hoped he'd be happy here with you.

Chapter 1
“Come on, (Y/n)! You have to tell me all about it! What was he like? Did you kiss? Hold hands? Where did he take you?”
I couldn’t help but smile at the rapidfire questions spewing from Kats mouth. Kat, the stunner sat opposite me with perfect dark skin and the inability to have a bad hair day, was my closest friend. We lived on the same street, drank at the same bar and both hated this small, slightly judgemental town equally. We bonded over the similarities in our lives - like both of us having fallen pregnant at a young age and being dealt the hand of having to raise our kids as single parents. Life was fucking hard sometimes (well, nearly all the time), but my son, Levi, and Kat, made this life worth living.
“Jesus Christ, ok! The date was ok.”
“Uh oh. ‘Ok’? That means it was awful, right?” she raised an eyebrow.
I took a gulp of my coffee.
“The date was ok. But he was…. Seriously not my type. He was too…perfect?” I winced as the words left my mouth, fully aware of how utterly ridiculous that sounded.
“Girl, ‘too perfect’? What the fuck kind of excuse is that?” Kat snorted slightly into her latte.
“I know, I know. But he reminded me of a Ken doll, ya’know? With his white jeans and his Armani sweater over his shoulders - that’s not really… me. The dude gets more manicures than I do. Plus he drives a Fiat Panda. Levi wouldn’t be caught dead getting in and out of one of those.”
“You can’t use your sons taste in cars to dictate the men in your life. That’s a low blow and you know it.”
“Ok then, you go out with Robert and tell me about all the kale facts that you never wanted to learn.” I leant back on the couch, clutching my coffee with both hands to bring some warmth to my fingertips. Kat did the same opposite me, leaning back in the plush armchair as we both took a second to glance out of the large café windows. This was our happy place, right here. It was the place we would come to when we first met and the boys were still in diapers. It was our happy place for the last nine years, and we would come here for every situation: be it a breakup, a catch-up, to discuss terrible sexual encounters or dire situations that need insane back-up plans. But we mostly came here to people-watch. Being the young, single moms that we were, we were constantly under the scrutiny of the small town, having every decision judged by the perfect Jeep-driving soccer moms and the old ladies from church. When we came here, to sit by this window in these comfy-as-fuck couches, it was our turn to do a little judging.
“Vicki Priestley isn't fooling anyone with those sunglasses,” I said, taking another sip of coffee as I watched the thin peroxide blonde across the street repeatedly wipe her nose with the back of her hand.
“Right? We get shunned for…well… fuck all, yet that Paris wannabe can snort coke on a Tuesday school run and everyone turns a blind eye? What a joke.”
“Amen to that,” we watched her for a few more seconds as she climbed behind the wheel of some monstrous four by four and sped off down the road.
“Did you hear that Mrs. Harris caught Mr. Harris with a young mistress? Apparently she works at the bank.”
“Oh my GOD yes I heard!” Kat exclaimed, leaning forward, “and as revenge she put Nair in his shampoo - he's completely hairless, even his eyebrows are gone.”
We both snickered as we raised our mugs.
“To Mrs. H for taking no shit.”
Conversation flowed as topics ranged from the new dessert parlour that opened last week down the road to the extortionate price of kids' Motocross gear.
“I mean the bikes are so tiny, why do they have to cost that much?”
“You're preaching to the choir babes, Toby just outgrew his boots for the third time this year,” Kat grimaced at the thought of how much money she'd spent already.
“Ouch, they're like what? Eighty bucks a pair?”
“Yup.”
“Yeah well, I had to get Levi a new helmet after that little dickhead from the tournament last month crashed into the side of him. That boy was more upset about the stickers he lost than the bruises he got,” I shook my head with a smile on my lips. Kat did the same.
“That's a tough kid you've got there.”
I sighed.
“Yeah I know. Despite never having met him, he's so much like his dad. It's a little concerning actually,” I laughed nervously, instantly regretting bringing up Levi’s father in front of Kat. I glanced up at her, taking a sip of my coffee in an attempt to hide behind the mug. The wiggling of her eyebrows being an indicator of her impending wrath.
“That man is the reason why you’re never satisfied with your dates. He set that bar waaaay too high.”
I scoffed. “He did not. We were young and he just swept me off my feet a bit, that’s all; with that ‘give ‘em Hell’ attitude and handsome face. Plus he had a great car.”
“Last time you said his face was ‘gorgeous’,” Kat cupped her face and fluttered her eyelashes, puckering her lips. I threw a sugar packet at her which she batted right back at me.
There was a moment of quiet as we both looked out the window again, my mind unable to stop itself from racing through old memories.
“Do you think he’ll ever come calling?” Kat asked, some sincerity to her tone. I sighed and slumped back further on the couch.
“I highly doubt it. He doesn’t even know that Levi exists. I tried calling him a few years back but some guy John W. had that number instead. I gave up after that. Plus, he had this kinda dangerous job, and normally if he showed up it was because something was going to go down,” I paused, looking into the dark liquid in my cup, “It’s probably a good thing that he hasn’t just shown up.”
“You say that, but you still have that photo you took together on your vanity.”
I shot her a look, pursing my lips and pinching my brows as she laughed, knowing she'd stumped me there. I quickly downed my coffee and checked my watch before standing and grabbing my bag.
“Come on, let's stop interrogating me and go pick up the boys before all Hell breaks loose at the track.”
“Mom it wasn't my fault, I swear.”
I slammed the car door closed and turned to the boy who stood close enough to be my shadow.
I turned around to face him with a stern expression, “so you did do it? After I called that boys mom a liar? LEVI.”
Levi, my son, looked close to tears, his bottom lip trembling.
“Mom, I'm so sorry! I'll never do it again!”
I narrowed my eyes at him before sighing, already exasperated, throwing the car keys into my bag.
“Did you at least stick to the golden rule?”
His answer was a vigorous nod, the tremble in his lip disappearing.
“‘Never throw the first punch; throw the second and finish the fight,’” he recited the words like a prayer.
“And…?”
“‘Always claim self defence.’”
I smiled and ruffled his soft brown hair.
“Good boy. What started the fight anyway?” I asked, guiding him to walk through the parking lot towards that new dessert parlour.
“He said I was weird for not having a dad.”
I looked down at him, eyes softening and I lifted a hand to rub his shoulder. It wasn't the first time he'd had this argument, and it likely won't be the last. Kids can be assholes. “And then he hit me when I said ‘at least my mom's boobs are real.’”
“Levi!” I stopped in my tracks and looked at him, mortified. I didn't even know where to start with that one. “Where-”
“Jamie from math class told me what ‘implants’ were… and he said that Brad's mom had them.”
He looked up at me innocently, and I knew then that he didn't fully grasp what he'd said to Brad - the kid he'd just punched between the eyes. I sighed for the umpteenth time and started walking again.
“Whatever, just… don't say that to anyone again, ok? You're gonna make me look like a terrible parent.”
“Ok mo- whoa! Look at that car!” It was Levi's turn to stop dead in his tracks as he stood in awe of the sleek black car parked by the sidewalk.
A black Chevy Impala.
“Oh wow,” my words came out slightly breathless, my mind suddenly racing to him and the conversation I'd had with Kat earlier that afternoon.
“So cool!” Levi gushed, walking up close to it but not close enough to touch.
“Yes, very cool. Now let's go inside before they run out of ice cream,” I ushered him to the door, reflexively looking over my shoulder, not knowing if I even wanted to see who could possibly be in the area.
The bell jingled as we walked in and Levi ran up to the counter, pressing his forehead to the glass. My eyes scanned the menu and I was pleasantly surprised to see they served coffee.
“What do you fancy kiddo?” I ruffled his hair again and waited for him to decide, and it wasn't long before he'd made up his mind. After ordering, we headed towards a small table-for-two at the edge of the room, and as Levi slumped down in his chair something familiar caught my attention.
A voice.
My heart quickly became erratic in my chest and my palms grew sweaty. I looked in the direction the voice had come from and was met with a slap in the face from memory lane.
There he was; the same wicked grin and mischievous eyes that had burned themselves into my memory. He dressed the same as he did nine years ago - right down to the necklace and leather jacket. He was engrossed in a conversation with another man, who looked slightly younger than himself, all whilst digging into a stack of waffles.
“Mom?”
The sound of Levi's voice snapped me out of the stunned fog I was caught up in and I quickly sat down, trying my best to focus on my son and not the man who was sitting only a few feet behind him. Levi looked like he was about to ask another question when a giant chocolate sundae and a coffee appeared at the table. I heard the waitress challenge Levi to finish the whole thing, but it was like I was listening to the world through water. My mind wouldn't stop racing. He's here. Do I talk to him? Will he remember me? Do I tell him about Levi? I hurriedly pulled my phone from my bag and sent her a hasty message before turning back to the boy in front of me, convincing a smile to appear on my lips.
“If you have room in that black-hole stomach of yours then you definitely could've finished your veggies earlier at dinner.”
He smirked slightly, like he always did when he knew he was getting away with murder, and it almost took my breath away. I saw the same smirk grace the lips of the man in the booth behind him. The mans gaze shifted to the side and when his eyes met mine - the same vibrant twists of green and gold that I have tattooed on my memory - I sucked in a sharp breath, my heart leaping in my chest as I tore my eyes away. I clutched my coffee cup, staring intently at the dark swirling liquid, praying to anyone or anything that I'd find the answers to my troubles in the bottom of this mug. The prickling on my skin was unshakable, like his eyes were on me and I was trapped under his intense observation, unable to breath. Minutes felt like hours, and eventually he and his companion stood before heading to the door. The moment they were gone with the bell signalling their departure, the air gushed from my lungs as I dropped my head into my hands, earning myself a confused look from my son. I offered him a reassuring smile which he accepted before returning to shovelling ice-cream into his face.
Just when I thought I was safe, I looked up and locked eyes with him. Our eyes locked through the window just as he opened the car door, leaning on it. It was like time froze, and for a few moments, despite my earlier urgency to not make eye contact, I was now unable to look away. My breath caught in my throat as a smirk pulled at his lips before he ducked down into the driver's seat, slamming the car door closed. I found myself chewing on my bottom lip as he tore out of the parking lol, that familiar rumble of the engine practically rattling the windows and, despite the noise, it was a comforting sound.
Once they were out of sight and the impala could no longer be heard, I sighed, pushing my hair off my face and running my hands through my hair. As Levi polished off the last of his ice-cream, my phone buzzed on the table. Opening it and reading the message, a small wave of relief washed over me as Kat confirmed that Toby would be at his dad's for once so she could come over to drink wine and discuss very important topics. She hasn't got a clue what I need to vent about yet, but I feel like tonight is going to be a very long night.

“That is not going to fit!”
He scoffs, already annoyed. “Yes, it is! Just move over a little.”
“A little? I’m already stretched the fuck out! What more do you want from me?”
“Seohyun, I swear to fucking God – “
She yelps, most likely cramping. “Just pull it out, you dumbass – “
“What the hell is going on in here?”
You and Chan stop dead in your tracks, confused at the scene currently playing out in front of your very eyes. You were gone downstairs for less than ten minutes to get the rest of your stuff, with you and Chan carrying a box each that held the essentials to ensure this move went smoothly. And in that time frame, your two other best friends have already managed to be at each other’s throats.
The front door of your apartment was wide open, with dumb and dumber currently looking like two deers caught in headlights on opposite sides, separated by an old armchair whose springs had become a death trap over the years. Last year, when you held parties here, someone was always left standing — it was either the cursed chair or the floor, with most guests picking the latter once they were drunk enough.
“Uh, hi?” Jisung greets, forcing a smile onto boyish features that haven’t changed much since you met almost seven years ago, in high school.
Bewiled, you set the box down by Chan’s feet and approach. “Are you guys, okay? What happened?”
Whistling, Jisung tries to pretend he has everything under control. He doesn’t, he never does, that’s just the type of guy he was. “Duh, we’re fantastic! Everything is under control, don’t even – “
Called it.
“For the love of god, just shut up and let them help us already!” Seohyun barks from the other side, prompting you to peek in to see her straighten her posture, rubbing her wrists in obvious discomfort. With a sigh and a glare from Jisung who steps back to allow Chan to take his place, she explains. “We were trying to get this chair out to make room for the new one.”
Chuckling, Chan inspects the door frame while you pass Seohyun one of the boxes right over the ugly, red chair that’s seen better days. “And it got stuck?”
“Yes, because Jisung didn’t want to listen – “
“Or maybe because you started pushing when I wasn’t ready, like an idiot.” He counters instantly, never one to back out from a fight instigated by Seohyun. Not to be fooled, these two were as close as can be, the bickering reflective of their special bond.
You and Chan share a look as they start again, amusement clear in gentle, doe eyes that have comforted you numerous times over the years. Meeting back in the summer before high school, you and Chan have been attached at the hip ever since, clicking as pre-teens and growing up together, maturing down the same path that’s led you to the same university, and even the same major you also shared with Jisung. Music production has always been a passion of yours, so getting to fulfil that dream with your absolute best friend by your side was a blessing you couldn’t be more thankful for.
“Alright.” Chan stops their bickering, one hand landing on Jisung’s shoulder to get his attention. “Stand on it.”
“Pardon?” Jisung blinks at him, as confused as you and Seohyun were, not sure he heard Chan right.
Smiling, Chan squeezes his shoulder. “So, you can step on the backrest and make it fall over. It will be easier to move afterwards.”
“You think so?” He asks, biting down on his bottom lip, not confident in the slightest.
Your best friend nods, giving his bottom an encouraging pat. “Positively. Now go on, I don’t want to spend my whole day in this hallway.”
Seohyun scrambles back, unwilling to get caught in between Jisung and the chair, giving him enough room to do what he must to free her exit.
Watching the whole scene unfold has you smiling from ear to ear, struggling to keep your laughter at bay once Jisung realizes the task isn’t as dangerous as he expected. It’s anticlimactic, more than anything, as he gets on top of the chair to step on the backrest, going down slowly without even losing his balance.
He blinks, barely realizing it’s over before making eye contact with Seohyun who bursts out laughing like she’s been holding it in since the beginning. The three of you join in quickly after, your delight bouncing off the hallway walls and lifting the spirits tremendously.
After all, nobody in existence was ever excited for summer to end and classes to start again, with a new, even more demanding schedule than last year. You were in your third year now and things were bound to get difficult the closer you got to graduating.
This silly moment was exactly what you needed to start the new year right, sure it would become a core memory later down the line when you’d all be working adults, with even more responsibilities and nonexistent free time. The sight of Chan dragging the armchair out, without any difficulty whatsoever as Jisung and Seohyun’s jaws hit the floor, incredulous he didn’t struggle like they did, was sure to bring a smile to your face for years to come.
When your only access to the apartment was finally free, the four of you gathered inside with the remaining boxes.
“You weren’t kidding, you do have all of your stuff here.” Seohyun hums, scanning her surroundings, and her new home. The apartment was yours. You moved in just last year and you’ve lived by yourself until now, when you welcomed her with open arms and a little too much excitement.
“Yeah.” You nod, already moving around to put the scattered things back in their rightful places. “Sorry about the mess. I didn’t bother cleaning up before leaving.”
The living room was fine – your bedroom was the one that suffered the most, already dreading the thought of having to dig through all the mess to find most of your things.
The apartment was a gift from your parents, after successfully finishing your first year of university living in a dorm. Sure, having your own space was great, but you’d never trade that first year for anything in the world. That’s where you meet Seohyun after all, growing closer and closer with every sleepless night you spent together giggling and talking about everything under the sun, not feeling the hours tick by until one of your alarms would ring, signalling the start of a new day.
It was big, too spacious for only one person to live in, with two bedrooms and a bathroom straight out of an interior design magazine. Even though Seohyun didn’t move in until now, you were never truly alone with Jisung and Chris living right next door. Someone was always keeping you company, which you were thankful for, in more ways than one.
Already moving about like they owned the place, Chris and Jisung were helping you tidy up, with the latter moving to check for anything rotten in the kitchen. With four pairs of hands on deck, it didn’t take more than fifteen minutes for everything to be back to normal, leaving you to take care of the dusting.
“Alright.” Chan stands, carrying two trash bags. “Ji, let’s go get the armchair.”
Jisung follows before Seohyun calls after them. “Right, is it in your car?”
“I thought it was in yours?” He turns around, stopping in the doorway while Chan is already busy calling the elevator, further away.
You see her brows furrow, setting the duster down before grabbing her car keys. “Nope.”
The ding of the elevator gets your attention, and they share a look before hurrying after Chan, in search of said armchair, the door closing behind them with a quiet thud. You lived high up, on the 10th floor – nobody was ever willing to take the stairs and waste that much time.
And so, in the blink of an eye, you are left alone in the apartment that held so many of your memories, beautiful moments you wouldn’t trade even in exchange for forgetting the sad ones.
You feel a little lost, staring around like you couldn’t recognize your own home, shoulders slumping with a deep sigh. Your gaze moves towards your closed bedroom door, feet following before your hand twists the doorknob and you’re engulfed in sunlight, blinking rapidly to adjust to the change in lighting.
Inside, the sight that greets you seems frozen in time, transporting you back in June to the last moments spent in this room, where you were running around to pack in a hurry. You don’t dare move, just taking it all in as memories flood your mind and make your heart ache in your chest, what still remains of it, anyway.
All of your stuff thrown around haphazardly painted a picture you didn’t enjoy, yet couldn’t look away from either. Your bed remained unmade, with piles of clothing, bags and random objects occupying all the space. Framed photographs were thrown everywhere around the room, just so they would stop glaring at you from their place on your nightstand, face down and most likely damaged by the broken glass. The vase on your dresser, which used to stand tall with beautiful, healthy flowers seemed to have lost its color, struggling to fulfil its purpose because of the dried, mouldy peonies you didn’t bother throwing out before leaving.
But what’s even worse than the mess is what tipped you over the edge back then, falling to your knees on the fluffy, white carpet as you sobbed uncontrollably – the things he left behind were still here, in the exact same spots, in pristine condition. Your room looked like it barely survived the hurricane that shared your name, yet his red cap was still resting quietly next to the flowers he got you. One of his sketchbooks, still opened on that drawing he never got to finish as he got too busy with school, was on the other nightstand, on his side of the bed. A pair of his dancing shoes were by the door, right next to your comfy slippers. They have been there for so long, that you couldn’t enter your room without tripping over them and be reminded of his presence every single time. Hell, you bet if you checked right now, his toothbrush will still be next to yours in the cute holder you bought together, his razor not far away.
There were traces of him everywhere you looked in this apartment, clothes and necessities he left behind on his many visits. Like his football jersey, lucky number 20, you’ve worn more times than him, hung in your open closet among empty hangers that barely held on.
It wasn’t fair, how you seemed to crumble along with everything around you while he, and his stupid things, remained intact. The world shattered beneath your feet, freefalling to your doom of self-doubts and regrets while he continued with his life like nothing even happened. Like you never happened; like you weren’t such a fundamental part in his life in the exact same way he was in yours.
Your ex boyfriend moved on in the blink of an eye, while you were still here, crying at the sight of a stupid toothbrush.
This will never be fair. Why did you always seem to draw the short end of the stick?
New beginnings were usually your favorite. Starting another book, turning a new leaf and switching up your wardrobe for a change, getting the inspiration for another song – these were all activities that brought you joy. Now, returning to campus at the end of summer vacation to begin another school year? For the first time since starting university two years ago, felt like an impossible task, one you weren’t ready for in the slightest. Because how could you ever be ready to start your junior year without him?
How could you possibly embark on a new journey without him holding your hand and guiding you through it all, navigating around every hardship with ease like he was the most experienced sailor in existence?
You had no answers, only questions. Too many that were also too loud, bouncing off of the sturdy walls of your mind that were threatening to crumble with every thud, remaining standing only thanks to the unbearable headaches that reminded you to take a break from all the overthinking.
Your mind went quiet as another voice made its presence known, bringing you back to the world outside your bedroom while shooing the dark cloud above your head out the window with ease.
“Oh my god, we lost the goddamn chair!”
A wet laugh escaped your lips, more tears rolling down your cheeks as you desperately tried to wipe them all before joining your friends in the living room. You weren’t stupid – they were worried. That’s why Seohyun was moving in, in the first place. To keep an eye on you at all times, when the other two couldn’t be there and provide the much needed support you craved so badly.
Not like they knew you were aware of their little plan, having them figured out from the moment they showed up at Chan’s doorstep in Australia, last month. They’ve been tiptoeing around you since then, not knowing what emotional state you were in or what’s changed or hasn’t in the two months you spent apart. Sure, Chris might have filled them in, but they were still afraid. Afraid they were going to mess up somehow and have you slipping through their fingers and shatter at any moment, like you were nothing more than a fragile package, all progress lost the second something that reminded you of him jumped into your path.
And, you hate to admit but they were right.
They failed to take into consideration that even though your ex never actually moved in, the apartment was his as much as it was yours, quickly becoming your shared home as you fell into a routine that involved the other at every step.
Your three close friends were the only people present, but all you could see was him, a ghost roaming around and haunting every corner of the house you now despised, his giggles caressing your ears gently every time you moved from one room to the other.
Just being here felt like torture. How were you supposed to spend another two years sleeping in the same bed you shared with the person you thought was going to be your forever?
“Sweetheart.” Chan’s gentle voice coaxes you out of the room as you manage to pull yourself together, no sign of crying or distress still present on your features. If anything, they looked worse than you, crestfallen and a little embarrassed.
“We have something to tell you.” Seohyun steps closer, gently taking your hands into hers and intertwining your fingers loosely.
Jisung nods and is by your side in a second, throwing an arm around your shoulders as he lowers his mouth to your ear. “Chris lost your new armchair.”
“What the fuck?!”
Your laughter joins theirs, a beat later, as Chris remains the only one standing there, arms crossed over his chest with his words falingl on deaf ears, nobody paying attention as he begins defending himself.
When you’re pulled into a warm embrace, with Jisung’s cologne enveloping all your senses, you can’t help but start wondering. Is this a good time to finally reveal you never actually ordered a new chair or…?
︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
Saturday slipped away into a moment in time, and before you knew it, Sunday was upon you. Your last chance at relaxing before the craziness began, and you’d be thrust into a series of new projects, classes and assignments that were already giving you a headache.
Despite spending the previous night celebrating a new beginning with your best friends, having an intimate pizza party with karaoke and a little too much alcohol, you wake up bright and early to get to a previously made appointment. Usually, you wouldn’t go anywhere for the summer, for the first two months anyway. But since you flew out of the country as soon as your exams were over, you didn’t get to help the animal shelter you have been volunteering at since your first year. It left a hole in your heart, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t feel guilty for disappearing into thin air, with nothing more than a text sent to the owner to let her know you’ll be going away for a while.
Hopefully, they’re willing to forgive and forget and let you make up for it by spending the next two months as involved as possible.
“Good morning, sweetheart.” Comes Chan’s groggy voice, still husky from all the singing he did last night, stumbling out of your spare bedroom with barely open eyes.
You startle, losing your balance while putting on your other shoe and crashing into the wall by the front door. You were hoping to make a swift escape and return before any of them rose since nobody in their right mind would willingly wake up this early.
He appears from around the corner, tank top slightly raised as he’s trying to scratch at his back. “You good?”
“Yep, everything’s just peachy.” Regaining your footing, you manage to put your shoe on and turn your back to him to get a jacket, feeling too awkward to make eye contact right now, which Chan would have laughed about if he wasn’t so sleepy.
“Where are you going?” He yawns, turning to squint at the clock on the far wall, above the couch. “It’s literally 7 am, too early to even be alive right now.”
For some reason, you hesitate to tell him, too out of it for your, and most definitely his liking. Being here was certainly not doing you any good, the walls closing in every time you tried to breathe and lift all the broken pieces of your stupid heart off of your lungs. It felt suffocating, especially when you were left alone with your thoughts as you zoned out one too many times.
Still, you mumble under your breath, reaching for your keys as silently as possible.
“Huh?”
With a sigh, you finally face him, eyes downcast. “Furry Friends Rescue.”
The smile that stretches across his features as he processes your words is so wide and contagious, it brightens up the whole room like he was somehow related to the sun itself, light radiating off of him in waves. It wakes him up instantly, and before you know it, he slips into a pair of slides left by the door and flies to his apartment.
You look after him, confused, and step into the hallway at the same time he does.
“Alright, let’s go!” He beams, locking his door before reaching for your arm softly. “I’ll drive you!”
“Wait, are you sure? I can – “
“Yes, I’m sure!” He frowns, shaking his head and pulling you after him with his newfound energy. “You love it there, and I know you already miss Berry. The least I can do is offer you a ride, are you kidding?”
You can’t help but smile at the mention of his puppy, spirits lifted in an instant. She was such a special little lady and you really bonded in these three months you’ve spent at his parents’ house.
Your parents never allowed you to have a pet, with your mom being allergic, so you did what you could to fill the space that remained constantly empty in your heart.
The drive there is full of laughter and even more singing, with Chris bringing back one of the activities you loved doing since he first got his license back in high school. Carpool karaoke has always been a must in his car, and that’s why you rode with Seohyun on your way back from the airport yesterday. You were a fool because nothing was quite as therapeutic as being silly and singing Disney songs at the top of your lungs with the only person who’s watched you grow into the adult you are today.
The drive to your destination isn’t long, but you still manage to squeeze in five songs before you get off and Chris speeds off. Only after wishing you a good day and making you promise you’ll call once you’re done so he can come pick you up, too. He was too kind, willing to do too much for you sometimes, but you were just the same. You’re afraid you might try moving the moon if he asked, one day.
Your annoying, overprotective brother who wasn’t really your brother, who’d push you into the pool before jumping in to save you in the same breath. He was such a guy.
Approaching with a prep to your step, the shelter’s surroundings have changed drastically since your last visit. The trees in the back have dyed their leaves in warm shades of orange and yellow, scattering some on the ground in hopes of attracting more pet lovers. A beautiful background always pulled people in, just like all pretty things did, and this autumn is particularly beautiful, with sights straight out of famous paintings. Seoul was truly a special city, one that’s nurtured and taught you the meaning of the word love that’s being thrown around too casually for your taste, these days. The city you grew up in, where you found your love for writing and composing, and where you met the most amazing people on this planet.
No other city could compare to your birthplace, no matter how pretty or modern it was.
Just as you make to try the door, with your apology speech all ready to go, it suddenly opens and forces you to take a few steps back in surprise.
“I’m sorry, we aren’t open yet.” The apology comes from a tall man, whose delicate features would have fooled you into believing he wasn’t older than a high schooler. Yet his physique begs to differ, you could tell even from beneath all the layers. He’s wearing the shelter’s apron with the logo you’ve had Jisung design a few years back. A new employee, perhaps? You don’t recognize him, so that’s most likely the case.
Your gaze travels upwards until it meets his brown eyes that fidget at the sudden contact. “Sorry, I’m here to see Mrs. Jeon?”
The stranger shakes his head, bleached blond hair hiding an undercut following his every move. “Mrs. Jeon is out of the country.”
You wait for him to continue, provide more details but when he doesn’t and only raises a brow that almost asks ‘what are you still doing here?’ you sigh and turn to leave. “Right. Will you please tell her Y/n has stopped by?”
“Wait, Y/n L/n?”
You turn right on your heel, both of your eyebrows raised as if to challenge his. “Do I know you?”
He brings his hands up, showing he means no harm as a smile finds his rosy lips, one you don’t truly grasp the meaning of. “No! But I know you.”
Alright, now you’re properly creeped out. Noticing the look on your face, the man quickly corrects himself, letting out an awkward laugh as he rubs the back of his head. “I’m sorry, I’m not good with strangers. Mrs. Jeon does! I was recruited in your place when you didn’t come back in June.”
Oh, so he was your replacement. Great. You had no idea you’d entered a race to see how fast people and places you frequented could replace you during the summer. Very motivating and uplifting. You should have stayed home.
“Oh.” Despite all the thoughts overlapping each other in your head, you only manage to sigh, properly exhausted.
His eyes widen slightly, and without thinking, he grasps your elbow when you turn around to leave for good. “Please do come in! Mrs. Jeon has been waiting to hear from you. She left a note.”
“A note?” When he nods, you shake off his hand and accept the invitation, stepping inside filled with curiosity.
All of the furry friends were in the back, in a separate space away from the reception. The place was modern, decorated in warm, pastel colors that seemed to welcome you with a fuzzy hug, the surroundings pristine. Furry Friends Rescue was built from the ground up by Mrs Jeon’s late husband, who passed away a few years back, right after you started volunteering here. To honor his life, she kept this place running, making it her mission to find loving homes for all the animals that were brought in, investing most of her resources into modernizing the place and treating the animals like they deserved to be treated.
The shelter housed a veterinary office and a pet salon, run by other volunteers who were experts in their fields, students alike and even working people who would come by to offer a helping hand whenever they could. Mr Jeon was a vet – he used to treat all of the animals before he fell sick and became unable to work.
Making his way around the reception desk, which truly resembled the entrance of a corporation, even with all the pet pictures plastered on all the walls, and the dog pattern on the couch, the man picks up a note that was next to the bone-shaped phone.
“Here.”
Your fingers brush his as you take the small paper from him, but you don’t pay any attention to the slight color that appears on his cheeks.
Dear Y/n,
I hope your precious heart managed to heal during your trip
What fitting words for someone who had no idea why you left in the first place. Guess Mrs. Jeon knew you better than you thought, after all.
If you’re reading this, it means I have not yet returned from visiting my grandbabies. It also means Jaemin is the one looking after the place
Please work together until I’m back. He’s a nice kid and I believe you’ll get along well
That is if you’re still willing to return. Always put yourself first. If quitting is what you think is best, just know I’ll never hold it against you
With love, grandma J
P.S. there’s a surprise on the other side 😊
Curious, you flip over the page, eyes scanning the familiar handwriting to decipher what has she left you. A giggle escapes you soon after, shaking your head with fondness spilling from your eyes at her antics. You’re glad that after everything she’s been through, Mrs. Jeon has never changed.
“Is something funny?” The guy you’ve come to learn is named Jaemin asks from the other side of the desk, head tilted slightly in wonder making him resemble an actual puppy.
You dismiss him with a wave of your wrist, pocketing the note. Mrs. J’s brownie recipe you could never get enough of wouldn’t interest him anyway.
“So, you’re Jaemin?” You finally ask, giving him a once-over. He was tall, wearing a denim-on-denim outfit and smiled a little too brightly for your liking. Still, he did look like a nice guy, so you might as well give him a chance, even if meeting someone knew was the last thing you wanted to do.
As expected, he beams, thrusting a hand forward over the desk. “That’s me! Nice to meet you, Y/n. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
You give him a small but genuine smile and shake his hand. “I’m a third year at SNU so I usually volunteer here during summer vacation. I hope we get along.”
He nods, listening to your every word. “Yeah, Mrs. Jeon mentioned we go to the same university. I’m a second year majoring in dance! I’m also a part of the football team so I apologize in advance if I ever end up leaving you here all alone when the season starts.”
Oh, what were the odds?
Your smile drops despite your effort in not reacting, retracting your hand a little too quickly while nodding and trying to act as normal as possible. “Cool.”
Turning around, you begin walking in the opposite direction to escape from this awkward situation Mrs. J has unknowingly put you in.
“Shall we go see the animals?”
He’s on your tail soon after, grabbing another apron on the way for you with that ever present sunny smile of his. Jaemin reminded you of a hyperactive puppy, a golden retriever who would do anything to make you happy, pulling silly stunts and stumbling over his own feet.
Turns out, his bright personality isn’t the only reason Mrs. J has hired Jaemin. You spend the next four hours together, taking care of the animals and talking, to your surprise. They all seemed to love him already, causing a ruckus at the mere sight of him, excited to be let out and greet you both properly.  The puppies especially as they’d run back and forth from you to him without stopping for a while, barely managing to bottle feed them in their excitement. Jaemin was nice, and easy to talk to, happy to get to know you but also talk your ear off when sensing you might need a laugh, managing to make everything funny. A great pick me up, you ended up agreeing with Mrs J’s statement – he was a good guy, the best that could have replaced you and helped her and all the staff in your absence.
For some reason, he felt comfortable opening up to you, and in turn, you told him some things about yourself too.
“What made you want to volunteer here?” He suddenly asks while cradling a noisy kitten, the sight comical.
You barely think before answering, gaze still trained on the bichon that has fallen asleep in your lap while you were brushing her. “I wasn’t allowed to have pets growing up, and I’ve always loved them. I was lucky my best friend had the most adorable puppy in the world right next door, but it wasn’t the same as owning one, you know?”
Jaemin nods, finally calming the kitten, eyes on you. “Oh, that sucks. I couldn’t imagine life without my two babies at home.”
You look up, curious. “You have dogs?”
“Two cats.” He throws a peace sign, chuckling when you smile. “I’m from Busan, so I only get to see them on holidays. I thought coming here and helping out four days a week might help me miss them less.”
“And? Does it help?” You point to the kitten that has fallen asleep in his arms, head crocked to the side weirdly. Looking down, he laughs and sets her in his lap, using his knuckles to gently pet between her ears, one of his hands as big as her whole body.
“It does, actually.” He smiles absentmindedly, most likely reminiscing about his fur babies. “But only momentarily. When I’m back in my dorm room, I still feel their absence.”
“I’m sorry.” Is all you say, a deep pang of sadness hitting you out of nowhere. You guess this is how Chris and Jisung feel as well, both away from their respective dogs they’ve more or less grown up with.
Jaemin shakes his head, still smiling and not as sad as you’d thought he’d be. “None of that. I facetime my mom every night just to see them.”
“That’s cute.” A smile finds its way on your face as you imagine him using the same baby voice he uses with the animals here on the phone with his mom, cooing at his cats.
“You’re cute.”
An uncharacteristic silence falls upon you as Jaemin searches for your gaze, dying to understand your reaction. It wasn’t uncomfortable, just weird, making you feel like you were doing something wrong. Which made no sense. Jisung and Chan called you cute all the time; not out of nowhere, but when the moment was right. Heck, Seohyun would write entire pages praising your beauty whenever you posted on Instagram – you knew you were cute. But this was different, this was someone that meant it romantically, you could tell. He was flirting with you, shooting his shot and seeing where it landed.
That wasn’t something you could reciprocate, especially not now.
When he notices the look in your eyes, the storm brewing behind them, he adds. “I was talking about Belle over there.”
You look down at Belle, the fluffy bichon in your lap, who is currently sleeping soundly on her back, tummy up and randomly kicking her feet once in a while, dreamland surely rowdy.
“Shut up.” You laugh a moment later, appreciating how fast he took the hint and backed off, leaning over to softly push him on the doggy mats, to which he pretends to fall just for your amusement.
With that out of the way, things return to normal quickly and before you know it, the other volunteers arrive and you’re biding Jaemin goodbye and going on your merry way, back to your apartment.
It’s afternoon now, hopefully your friends are awake by now.
︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
They were in fact, not awake. Jisung just moved himself from the spare bedroom he shared with Chris for the night to the living room couch to sleep some more, without having to deal with the other’s snoring. Seohyun was buried in your blanket, hiding from the world, in the same position she was in when you left that morning.
Like it or not, it seems their bodies were incapable of pulling all-nighters after doing it for so many years without suffering the day after. Hopefully, you all manage to fix your sleep schedules before your classes start properly, not wanting to miss too many and be left behind, confused out of your minds and barely figuring it out by the time exam season rolls around.
︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
“I’m sleepy.” Seohyun complains, reaching up to rub her eyes before remembering the pretty eyeliner currently gracing her eyelids and stopping at the last second, groaning.
You giggle, full of energy from the coffee Chris made sure got into your system before your first class, swirling the ice in your cup absentmindedly, mind somewhere else.
Busy on his phone, he doesn’t even look up as he responds. “You barely made it to class this morning and you’re still complaining?”
Monday, 10:15 am. Your first class of the day officially ended fifteen minutes ago and as you’ve been doing for two years now, your friend group meet up at your favorite location, the diner closest to campus that has become some sort of sanctuary by now.
Seohyun was majoring in communication so she did not share your classes yet somehow, the four of you have started the new school year in the same way – with a boring, way too long 8 am lecture that almost erased your will to live.
She shoots him a dirty look he doesn’t notice, but otherwise doesn’t respond, too tired to bother with Chris and his top student agenda. Because being popular, good at sports and everyone’s friend wasn’t enough for him; your best friend was the academic weapon every freshman aspired to be, without trying too hard either. Hands down the most gifted and smartest person you know.
“You did go to bed super late last night.” You reach for her hand across the table, gently massaging her palm in hopes she’ll feel a bit better.
Just then, Jisung returns with your drinks, handing them out one by one like he was a barista himself. When he’s done and you all thank him, he takes his seat across from you and Chris, next to Seohyun. “What did I miss?”
“Seohyun was complaining.” Chris responds instantly, fingers typing away. What could be more interesting than spending time with your closest friends?
“Oh, so nothing new.”
At the same time, you softly smack the back of Chris’ head while she smacks Jisung, with a little more force, only the latter reacting loudly.
“Stop being mean.” You reprimand, and Chris puts his phone down with a sigh, leaning back in his chair to stretch his arms above his head.
“For your information, being late was not my fault.” Seohyun chimes in, finally in the mood to explain herself after taking several sips of her coffee. “This random guy ran straight into me, I was tackled to the ground!”
Concern flashes over your features. “Are you okay?”
She nods. “Yeah, don’t worry. He helped me up and gathered all of my books while apologizing. Then I met up with Ji and he carried my bag to class.”
Both you and Chris shoot Jisung a curious look, not convinced he went through all of that trouble out of the kindness of his own heart.
“In my defense,” Jisung shrugs, his arm thrown over the booth behind Seohyun’s head, “I really did not want to come to class.”
Chris chuckles and sips from his strawberry milkshake while you shake your head, smiling and pinching the back of Jisung’s hand that was resting on the table, to which he retaliates by throwing the straw paper in your face.
“To be honest, I wasn’t paying attention either so he’s not entirely to blame here.” She continues like neither of you has said anything, resting her head in her palm with a dreamy look in her eyes. “Besides, he was fucking gorgeous. I swear I’ve never seen such a beautiful man before. And his freckles? Literal constellations right on his cheeks, oh my god.”
“Okay, Juliet, pipe down.” Jisung flicks her forehead and she swats his hand away, glaring.
Amused, you lean closer with interest. “Did you get his name?”
She shakes her head. “No” Then, her gaze moves to Chris. “That’s why, I need you to find him for me.”
Raising a brow, he reaches for your drink to have a taste before responding. “What am I, the local newspaper? You’re the one who bumped into him.”
“Yes, but you literally know everyone on campus.”
He makes a face, deeming your drink too bitter for his taste. “So do you.”
That was true. Seohyun was the definition of a social butterfly, mingling with all cliques and being liked by everyone she came into contact with. However, she was also very perceptive so if someone’s vibe seemed off, she could come across as cold and aloof, not giving them the time of day.
“Please?” She continues, resorting to the infamous puppy eyes. “This guy might be the love of my life, Chris, please help me.”
“What about Mark?” Jisung buts in, giving her a questioning look. Immediately, you and Chris signal for him to cut it out, abort the ship and never utter that name for as long as he draws breath.
Seohyun’s gaze drops to her cup, manicured finger moving back and forth on the edge, pretending she didn’t hear any of the words that have left Jisung’s mouth. To his credit, Jisung looks a little guilty, arm sliding over her shoulder and squeezing briefly in a silent apology, hoping it will be enough to fix things.
The probability of this mystery guy being the love of her life was low, but Chris seemed to feel bad enough to give in, exhaling deeply. Seohyun’s track record wasn’t great – for some reason, she always fell for emotionally unavailable guys, with her latest situationship ending not too long ago once she realized Mark did not want anything serious.
She didn’t deserve all that. Seohyun was the sweetest, kindest person you knew, with a heart of gold. If anyone deserved to find true love and grow old with rosy cheeks, still feeling butterflies at the mention of her beloved’s name no matter how many years passed, it was her. And you’d be damned if you didn’t try to make that happen.
“Let’s find this pretty boy of yours.” You smile as Chris nods, enjoying the way her face gradually lights up.
“Really?”
“I’d feel like I kicked a puppy while it was down if I didn’t, so what the hell. We’ve done crazier things anyways.” Chris adds and she squeals, getting out of the booth to come over and hug him, suddenly excited.
“Oh!” She rushes back to her seat, instantly rummaging through her bag. “This is his. I think it got mixed up with my books when I dropped them. He was in a hurry.”
The three of you huddle together as she places a small notebook on the table, curious about its contents that might reveal the identity of Seohyun’s prospective new…something. Let’s hope boyfriend, and nobody that treats her less than that.
Chris is the one who dares open it, flipping through the pages in wonder.
“These are…recipes?” He blinks, drawing a blank as the measurements for the perfect ‘gooey brownies’ stare him right in the face.
None of you says anything for a moment, the gears in your head turning and working simultaneously before Jisung breaks the silence with an unexpected outburst.
“Oh my god, he’s a fucking loser!”
Safe to say, he got smacked a couple more times before your next class of the day. Lovingly, of course.
︶︶︶︶༉‧₊˚.
With everyone promising to ask around for Seohyun’s prince charming, you go on with your day until your last class, when you established to meet again for a little get together with all of your other friends.
The sun was starting to set, casting a warm, golden hue that extended throughout the whole campus, creating mesmerizing surroundings you could barely look away from. Thankfully by now, you’re outside, enjoying the warm breeze and nice weather that might not return any time soon as the days will only continue to get shorter and shorter as time passes.
You’re currently near the football field, cutting through near the bleachers to get to the other side where Chris and his swimming team are currently meeting. Seohyun is skipping a few feet in front of you, obviously in good spirits.
“Didn’t know Chris needed a chaperone.” She teases, turning to you with a smile as she starts walking backwards.
You chuckle. “Well, he is our ride.”
“We could have walked.” She stretches her arms as if to prove a point. “It’s such a beautiful day! It’s a shame we have to miss out on the rest of it, too.”
You were on your way to a bar, a new one that opened all the way in Hongdae. The owner has invited 3racha, Chris and Jisung’s music group personally, so it would be rude to not show up, even if you did share her sentiment. If it were up to you, you’d be in bed, snuggling already, but your friends have made it a point to keep you out of the house as much as possible.
“Just say thank you, Seohyun.”
“Thank you, Seohyun, for being the hottest girl around!”
You both laugh, enjoying each other’s company before she turns back around and resumes her skipping, long, bleached hair flowing freely behind her in the prettiest way. As you reach for your phone to record her for memories, a speck of red gets your attention in an instant.
You keep walking but your eyes are glued to the field now, to the eight or so guys dressed in the white and red uniform of your university’s American football team. Your heart rate picks up in an instant, scanning their jersey numbers in a hurry.
Relief floods your system when you don’t find what you’re looking for, slowing down. These guys looked young, most likely freshmen trying out for a spot in the most famous football team your university has had in years. You didn’t know how that worked, your memory failed you as you tried to remember when tryouts took place. It seemed a little too early for all that though, too soon to be looking for new people when the season kicked off somewhere in October, a good month and a half away. You couldn’t help but wonder why the hurry.
“Y/n! Watch out!”
Seohyun’s screaming startles you out of your thoughts, your eyes coming into focus to see a football flying right in your direction, quickly approaching your head. Before you know it, you’re ducking and running, feeling bad for snoozing and interfering with practice. Of course, this had to happen, you were cursed after all. You could never be near a sports field without something hitting you, no matter how small or insignificant the object, it always had to make contact with your face.
However, you don’t make it very far before you come to an abrupt stop as you collide with something or better said, someone, the impact causing you to stumble a few steps back until rough, gloved hands stabilize you by the shoulders.
When you regain your footing and finally look up at your saviour, your heart actually stops.
Because the one looking back, right through you is none other than Hyunjin. Your Hyunjin.
Or actually, he wasn’t yours anymore, now, was he?
Hyunjin who’s written his name across your heart in golden letters, that suddenly lit up at the mere sight of him. Your ex-boyfriend looked almost unrecognizable, his short black hair replaced by long, bleached locks that were pushed back, away from his face in a little ponytail.
You were a fool to think he wouldn’t be here. He was the captain after all and the coach was nowhere in sight.
The air wasn’t entering your lungs anymore, yet somehow you were still breathing, being kept afloat by his familiar hands on your skin, so overly conscious of his touch that you barely registered the shiver running down your spine.
After three months apart with no communication, Hyunjin was finally looking at you, forced to acknowledge your presence. It felt a little surreal, bumping into him so soon. Sure, you were expecting it, but not on your very first day back to campus, not when you still haven’t processed the fact that you weren’t together anymore. Everything in you longed for him and all his endearing quirks, even after all this time; even after he broke your heart.
You don’t dare look away, and neither does he, enthralled by those beautiful eyes of his that used to watch your every move with so much love and care. Now, you don’t see any of these emotions, but there is an intensity to his gaze that you can’t quite put your finger on. Time always seemed to come to a stop when you were with him and right now it was no different. All of your surroundings faded, leaving him the sole object of your attention.
There was a new piercing adorning his face, right under his bleached eyebrow. It looked good, like everything he deemed worthy enough to leave a mark on his body. But that wasn’t what got your heart beating again, pounding against your ribcage at an alarming pace he was sure to hear even from afar.
Without looking away, his hands slide down your arms slowly, and for a brief moment, you think they’re going to find solace in yours, just like they’ve done for all these years. By the surprise flickering in his eyes, you believe he thought of the same thing, catching himself at the last second and taking a step back, arms falling to his side heavily.
“Yo, what the fuck was that?” A new voice has you both snapping out of it, finally allowing you to look away and escape the staring war neither had the resources to win. It’s familiar, and as someone stops right by your side, seemingly out of nowhere, there’s no doubt in your mind about his identity.
“Y/n, are you okay?
You blink, and the magic from before finally dissipates completely, almost like the spell Hyunjin has got you under broke the moment he made himself busy by reaching for his helmet on the ground. When you manage to tear your eyes from him, Yeonjun, one of his friends and teammates, comes into view and places a hand on your shoulder in concern. The ball that almost collided with your head is under his other arm, and you notice that he’s not wearing his gloves as he should be.
Eventually, you nod, looking straight into his eyes while mustering your most convincing smile. “Yeah, don’t worry. Nothing even happened.”
“It almost did.” He states, glaring towards the group of men who seemed glued on the spot. “If it weren’t for Hyunjin, things might have ended badly.”
You look away, not knowing how to act around them anymore. Hyunjin doesn’t respond either, just moves out of the way as Seohyun sprints to your rescue, pulling your body into the tightest hug and putting some distance between you and the two men.
“Are you okay? You’re not hurt anywhere, right?” She’s instantly checking you all over, dusting invisible dirt off your clothes before patting your head lovingly, just like a mother would do to comfort her sobbing child. Truthfully speaking, you weren’t far from turning into one, but the mortification of bursting into tears in front of all these people kept your emotions in check. You reckon a football to the face would have hurt less than having Hyunjin treat you like a stranger he’s meeting for the first time, barely reacting to your sudden appearance.
In hindsight, him reacting differently was almost impossible. Especially in the way you’d want him to react. Hyunjin had changed right before your very eyes in the last months before your relationship ended, burying his sweet and sensitive nature so deep down that you feared it might have gotten erased permanently.
Grasping her hands, you nod to calm her racing mind. “I’m fine, mom.” Then, you turn to Yeonjun again. “Sorry for interrupting practice like that. I should have been more careful.”
You hear Hyunjin scoff from somewhere behind you, still not brave enough to show his face, while Yeonjun shakes his head vehemently. “Nonsense. You did nothing wrong. Those guys though? They did plenty.”
He squeezes your shoulder reassuringly before excusing himself to join said guys, voice loud and annoyed. “Who were you passing that to? Are you fucking blind or just stupid?”
Yeonjun had no authority over them, not like Hyunjin did anyway. But he was still a seasoned player, one that’s been with the team for two years, so his words carried significant weight. He was a year older than all of you yet only decided to give football a chance in his second year, joining the team at the same time as Hyunjin. Their roles on the team were the opposite of each other – while Hyunjin was on the offensive, Yeonjun was a defensive player in charge of keeping the other team as far away as possible. Yet, they clicked and worked so well together that the probability of SNU losing a game with both of them present was close to none.
Bonding outside the field proved just as easy and before you knew it, Yeonjun became one of Hyunjin’s treasured friends, bringing their envied teamwork to more events than necessary.
For these guys to have a chance before the coach, they first needed to impress these two. And one thing about Hyunjin was that he was very hard to impress, especially in the areas he excelled in.
Your eyes naturally gravitate towards him along with your thoughts, his magnetic field still as strong as always. To your utter surprise, he moved to stand a little further away, facing his potential new teammates.
“Who threw that?”
The sound of his voice alone is enough to overwhelm you, suddenly way too emotional to keep still, to manage to keep your cool and act as nonchalant as he was. You haven’t heard that voice in so long, you’re sure you’d have collapsed if he as much as uttered your name.
Your name on his tongue has always been your favorite sound, no other word ever coming close to having that same effect.
Sheepishly, one of the guys steps forward while rubbing the back of their necks, visibly taken aback by the coldness in Hyunjin’s voice.
Hyunjin’s eyes narrow just as Seohyun links her arm through yours and tugs your body closer.
“Apologize.”
“Yes, captain!” He nods instantly, bowing repeatedly in Hyunjin’s direction to show exactly how sorry he feels for disappointing him. “I’m –“
“Not to me.” Hyunjin crosses his arms over wide chest, shoulder blade plates making him look even more intimidating as he stands to his full height, rolling his eyes. “To her.”
Your eyes widen as the guy looks up, searching for you with confusion visible even through his big helmet. Hesitantly, he changes targets, stopping before you and Seohyun.
“Hyunjin – “ You manage to squeak out, hating the way your voice almost gets caught in your throat, heat rushing to your face.
“Let him apologize.” His gaze travels to you leisurely, impatience clear in usual doe eyes.
But you aren’t far behind, a little annoyed by his insistence, managing to pull yourself together to counter. “I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“And last I checked, I didn’t ask for your opinion.” As quick-witted as always, Hyunjin isn’t even looking at you anymore, not bothering to react in any other way, like you weren’t even worth getting annoyed at. “He made a mistake that under normal circumstances, could have cost us the game. He needs to own up to it and apologize not only to you but to his teammates as well.”
Then, the guy seems to get smaller under his sharp gaze, instantly dropping into a deep bow and obeying Hyunjin’s words to a T. “I’m so sorry for throwing the ball in your direction!” In the next second, he’s spinning around and bowing to the other guys as Seohyun struggles to keep in her laughter at his next words. “I’m sorry for being an idiot!”
To his credit, Hyunjin hasn’t addressed him as such, always one to keep things professional. Yet, you notice the slight twitch of his mouth, obviously pleased and amused as Yeonjun bursts out laughing.
The guys bow in return, and suddenly they’re all shouting apologies at each other, owning up to all of the little mistakes they’ve made up until now that might’ve inconvenienced the other in some way, feeling bad for possibly giving anyone a hard time.
Not being able to hold it in anymore, your best friend almost collapses from laughter, needing to walk it off to calm down, only to start again as she locks eyes with Yeonjun a little farther away.
You’re so taken aback that you don’t even know how to react, watching the scene before you as flabbergasted as one could get. It was wholesome to see these kids already acting like a team but a part of you couldn’t help but feel bad once it remembered none might actually get to play and represent their university on the field. Hyunjin was trying to instil some discipline into them, but at what cost? What was the point?
Just as you’re contemplating everything that happened, the eight guys suddenly stop and turn to bow in Hyunjin’s direction as well, apologizing at the same time like it’s an activity they’ve rehearsed beforehand. It gets quiet as they wait for an answer, not even daring to raise their heads and see Hyunjin’s reaction, just patiently waiting for the go ahead so they can go back to practice.
Since when was Hyunjin running this team like the fucking marines?
Despite not looking at him, when Hyunjin nods they all stand to their full heights before him, awaiting further instructions. The mood shifts, all tense and serious like they weren’t sweet and wholesome just a moment ago.
“Since none of you seem able to handle one of these yet,” he barely finishes his sentence before Yeonjun passes him the ball, catching it with ease to hold up for the others to see. It all happened so quickly and naturally, that the others most likely didn’t notice, but you did. Hyunjin isn’t using his dominant hand. “you’ll be running laps until the coach gets here. Whoever is not up for it, drop your gears – you’re out.”
You’re expecting complaints and groans in protest but instead, they all nod and succumb to their miserable fates, doing exactly what Hyunjin has instructed. A little further away, you notice Yeonjun laughing without shame, having a blast at their expense.
“Asshole.” Seohyun murmurs, rolling her eyes, and you’re unsure who she’s talking about. “Let’s go. Any more time and Chris will send his speedo wearing army out in the wild to look for us.”
You want to laugh, to agree, and turn your back on this incident and leave without a word. But you can’t, feet lodged into place like you were standing on the biggest patch of mud around.
Hyunjin’s back was already to you, form cladded in that familiar uniform you’ve felt under your fingertips for years. The 20 under his surname written in capital letters on his jersey were almost mocking you, mad for holding their twin hostage in your mess of a closet. It doesn’t matter – in a month or so, they’ll be replaced in favour of a new design that comes around every new season. Just like your presence in his life will inevitably be filled by someone else; someone better, capable of loving him at his worst.
You had so much to say, so many words eager to escape and latch onto him, to get his attention and feed from it, growing bolder and more desperate with every second spent by his side. Hyunjin always brought the best out of you – until he broke things off. Then everything just came to a stop. Like someone lifted the stylus off of a vinyl before the song got the chance to come to an end, damaging the record and your ears in the process.
You loved music but suddenly, your life was quiet.
Hyunjin has been your muse for the entirety of your relationship, all of your songs based on him and the love that managed to blossom thanks to your shared effort. The butterflies and the fireworks all faded without a trace, making your music sound bland and meaningless, off-key since the one who inspired it was no longer there.
You wanted to call out his name, get him to stop and not leave you behind again but you didn’t know how, unable to without bursting into tears and breaking down for everyone to see. Hyunjin has been a part of your life for so many years, how were you ever supposed to start acting like he never was? Erasing him and the mark he left would surely be impossible without a potion of sorts, some Eternal Sunshine mechanism that will ensure your brain will be tricked into believing he was never here, to begin with.
Seohyun is off to the side, giving you the space needed to put your thoughts in order, for your next move. This was your chance, the moment you’ve been waiting for.
But you couldn’t do it. You couldn’t run after him no matter how loudly your heart was screaming in protest.
So, you turn around and latch onto your best friend as she begins pulling you along, quick to come to your rescue as always. Struggling to keep it together, with tears welling up in your eyes, you miss the way he turns to look in your direction one more time. One last time.
You’ve always believed Hyunjin was the love of your life, the one you’d grow old holding hands with.
Now, your perspective has changed, as did the main character role he has played in your story for the past five years. No longer was he the charming male lead, the prince coming in on a white horse to swoop you off your feet in a grand gesture of romance.
Hyunjin was the loss of your life. The one that managed to get away even with the tight grip you’ve tried to keep on his heart.
Hyunjin transformed into a background character that won’t be there for the ride, and won’t get to witness the new developments happening from now on in your life.
You would have rather been the one written off the story if it meant keeping him. Unfortunately, that was not a possibility since without you, there wouldn’t be a story to begin with.

   ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Y/N found herself in a moment of deep introspection, a journey of self-discovery that led her to confront truths that had long been kept within her.
Sitting in her favorite armchair, in her cozy bedroom lit only by the soft light of a bedside lamp, she found herself immersed in tumultuous thoughts.
Since a few months ago, something inside her had started to change. Small sparks of doubt had turned into an uncontrollable fire of questioning. Y/N, who had always considered herself heterosexual, now found herself slipping through the choppy waters of sexual uncertainty.
It was difficult to name exactly when it all started. Maybe it was that long look at the pretty girl who crossed her path in the cafe, or maybe it was the sudden intensity of feelings she felt while watching a romantic movie in which the protagonist couple were two girls.
These experiences, seemingly insignificant at the moment, now echoed within her like a deafening echo. And the more Y/N tried to ignore these feelings, the more intense they became, like a relentless tide that was dragging her towards the truth she wasn't ready to accept.
She looked at Chris, a kind and caring boy who had won her heart a few years ago. They were inseparable, sharing big dreams, secrets, and plans for a future together. But now, an abyss opened between them, an abyss fueled by the confusion and fear that Y/N carried within her.
The fear of rejection, of judgment, of change. She didn't want to hurt her boyfriend, but she also couldn't deny her growing awareness of her own identity. She wondered if he would be able to accept her completely. Would he still love her the same way when he knew the truth about her sexuality?
Y/N found herself tormented by vivid images of an uncertain future, where she was alone. She feared that revealing her bisexuality would trigger a chain reaction of events that would lead to their inevitable breakup.
She found herself turning over scenarios in her mind, rehearsing the words she would need to say to Chris, but never finding enough courage to truly face her truth.
The nights became long and lonely as Y/N spiraled into self-questioning. She read articles, sought answers in the far reaches of the internet, and desperately tried to fit into a clear definition of who she was.
She lost count of how many times she watched the video on her boyfriend and his brothers' channel, where Nick told his story of coming out to his family, trying to find some direction or inspiration.
Until she understood that there was no point in remaining closed off like she was doing. Chris was increasingly worried, filling her with questions when they were together and messages when they were away, while Nick and Matt tried to understand the situation and help both sides - that of a best friend and that of a brother.
And seeing the desperation in Chris's eyes again when he facetimed her that morning - while on his way to a photoshoot with Matt - made her finally make the decision to seek real help.
And who better to do this than Nick, who was openly gay and had gone through his own journey of self-discovery?
     ༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
With her heart racing, Y/N knocked on Nick's bedroom door after entering the triplets' house with her own key. She wondered if she was doing the right thing by seeking his guidance, but an insistent inner voice was pushing her forward, telling her it was time to confront her fears and uncertainties head on.
Nick opened the door with an excited smile, having already been notified minutes before through a text message that she was on her way, his welcoming eyes conveying an instant sense of comfort. He opened the door wider, giving Y/N space to enter, turning around and returning to his gaming chair, Y/N finding herself surrounded by the relaxed atmosphere instantly.
"Hey girl!" Nick greeted, his voice carrying a tone of euphoria. "What do you want to do today?"
Y/N swallowed, feeling a lump form in her throat. Nick probably thought she had gone to his house to spend time together - which wasn't a lie - completely unaware of the matter at hand.
"Actually, I need to talk to you about something important." Y/N began, her voice wavering with built-up tension as she walked with shaky steps towards the bed. "It's about.. my sexuality."
Nick nodded understandingly, pointing to the mattress with his chin, inviting her to sit there, and turning his body on the chair so that he was facing her. He quickly sent her a compassionate look, encouraging her to continue.
"I've been... thinking lately." The girl continued, carefully choosing her words. "And I think I'm... bisexual."
A wave of relief swept over Y/N as she finally voiced the truth she had been keeping inside herself for so long. Nick smiled gently, looking genuinely happy for her.
"Oh my God, this is amazing, Y/N!" Nick's voice was overflowing with support and encouragement. "Discovering and accepting your true sexuality is an incredibly brave step, I'm so proud of you!"
Y/N felt tears of gratitude bubble up in her eyes. She could never have imagined such a positive and loving reaction, despite him not being heterosexual himself.
"Thank you, Nick..." She sniffled, wiping the tears from her eyes in a quick movement, letting out a low laugh. "But I'm... I'm scared to tell Chris." Y/N said, her eyes lowering to her thighs and her voice cracking with anxiety. "I don't know how he will react, and I'm so afraid of losing him."
Nick sighed, getting up from his seat and walking over to his bed before sitting next to the girl, pulling her into a big hug and resting his head on top of hers, conveying a feeling of calm and security.
“Y/N, I understand this is scary.” He began, his voice soft like a comforting whisper. "But if there's one thing I've learned on my own journey, it's that being true to yourself is the most important thing we can do. And if Chris truly loves you, he will accept you for who you are, no matter your sexual orientation."
Nick's words echoed in Y/N's mind, filling her with courage and determination. She knew that she could no longer postpone the moment of coming out to Chris, he was one of the most important people in her life - if not the most important - and keeping that from him was being a martyrdom for her.
     ༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
Y/N's heart hammered hard against her chest as she prepared to take the bravest step of all: telling Chris about her bisexual identity.
She found herself in front of him, in her own room, watching him with a mixture of nervousness and determination while searching for the right words to express what she was feeling.
Chris looked back at her with his extremely blue eyes carrying gentle and loving emotions, his face lit up with a warm smile that always made Y/N's heart melt. He held her right hand, conveying a comforting sense of silent support.
"What is happening, gorgeous?" Chris asked softly, his voice thick with concern. "You said you needed to talk to me, and you seem nervous. Did I do something?"
Y/N's eyes widened at his deduction, shaking her head quickly.
"No! No, of course not, baby." She took a deep breath, gathering all the courage she had within herself. "It's just... There's something I need to tell you." Y/N began, her voice trembling slightly as her breath came raggedly, her cold fingers trembling between his. "It's about my... sexuality."
Chris's eyes widened slightly in surprise, he hadn't really expected the conversation to be about that - the possibility hadn't even crossed his mind - but he remained silent, waiting for Y/N to continue.
"I've been struggling with this for some time." The girl continued after a few seconds, carefully choosing her words. "And I realized that... I'm bisexual."
The silence that followed seemed to echo around them, filling the space between the two with palpable tension. Y/N held her breath, waiting for Chris's reaction, her heart beating wildly and her posture falling almost automatically, as if a weight was put on her shoulders.
And then, finally, Chris broke the silence. His eyes ran over Y/N's features with a gaze full of love and understanding, a tender smile curving his lips.
"Oh my baby, I have no words to describe the honor of you sharing this with me. Thank you for trusting me." His voice sounded soft like a comforting whisper. "I want you to know that I love you exactly the way you are, and nothing will change that... I'm so proud of you!"
Tears of relief and gratitude welled up in Y/N's eyes as she threw herself into her boy's welcoming arms, feeling overwhelmed by an overwhelming wave of love and acceptance, a sob escaping her lips.
"I was so scared of losing you." Y/N admitted, her voice cracking from crying. "You really are the love of my life, huh?" She let out a tearful laugh, wiping away the lone tear that rolled down her cheek.
Chris hugged her back tightly, pulling her into his lap in a quick movement and wrapping his arms around her waist, pressing their chests together and burying his head in the crook of her neck, enveloping her in a comforting warmth that seemed to melt away all her worries and fears.
The boy sealed the exposed skin gently before pulling away slightly, cupping her face gently in his hands, looking into her eyes with an intensity that made Y/N's heart flutter.
"Princess, I'll always be here for you, no matter what." Chris revealed, his voice filled with silent promises. "You are the light of my life, and I will do everything in my power to make you happy."
Chris' words echoed in Y/N's heart, filling her with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love. She felt infinitely blessed to have found someone so incredibly loving and understanding to share her life with.
And in that moment, as they hugged each other tightly, Y/N knew that no matter what the future held, she was right where she belonged: in the arms of the man who loved her unconditionally, regardless of who she was or who she loved. And with that came a feeling of peace and wholeness that she knew would last forever.

I'm Better Than Him- Kang No-eul 0.2
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Pair: No-eul × F!Reader
Context: You had a boyfriend who was a complete jerk, and a best friend who was completely gay for you. When No-eul found out about the breakup, she made sure you completely forgot about the guy, and consoled you in every way.
Warning: none.
Words: 8k
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
In the middle of the night, your body woke up. With a jump, you sat up in bed. You heard a noise of something falling, and looked around, your eyes still adjusting to the light in the room, since you had fallen asleep with the light on. When your senses returned, you noticed that something was vibrating, you looked at your bedside table, noticing that what was vibrating so much was not there. It was then that your eyes met the ground, and you saw your cell phone on the ground. The vibration ended, and you bent your body, reaching for your phone. A missed call from No-eul, your best friend, and a message.
No-eul🩷
"Hey pretty, u still up?" 1:30 AM
You sighed, and resumed the call, only having to wait two seconds until you heard your best friend's voice through the cell phone "Hey pretty, how are you? Did I wake you up?" The girl asks, dragging out the "hey." Her voice was cheerful, and on a normal day you would have smiled, laughed, and made a joke about the situation. But not today. You kept your countenance serious and expressionless. "No, I was just in the bathroom. Do you need anything?" The sentence ends up coming out more dryly than intended, and No-eul notices it immediately. She takes a few seconds to respond, thinking about what she would say. "No, just checking you out. Go to sleep, it's late for the kids to be up at this hour." No-eul teased, and she could almost see the exact expression on your face when she heard a short but sincere nasal laugh.
You rolled your eyes and sighed, getting up from the bed. "No-eul, good night." You hung up before you could hear the girl's response. You threw the phone onto the bed and took off your black leather trench coat, throwing it onto the armchair. You stood in front of the mirror, taking off each piece of clothing. One piece, one thought, one new doubt, one new insecurity, one new feeling, one new piece of your heart ripped out. "Was my body not beautiful enough?" You ask yourself, looking at your half-naked body, wearing only your underwear. You looked at your breasts in your bra, your belly, your waist, your hips. Were your legs too thin for him? Or too thick? Was your waist too defined, or nonexistent? Were your breasts too small or too big? The space between your thighs? Was there even a noticeable space between them? Was it your face? Your hair? Your manner?
You touched the soft skin of your belly, feeling a knot in it. A sigh escaped your lips and you felt a shiver, obviously having spent those minutes without clothes, your body felt cold. You quickly went to bed, grabbing your pajamas and quickly putting them on, going back to bed, which you were beginning to consider staying there forever, like a shell of pain. However, No-eul's morning was normal. She woke up at 5, went to the gym, took a shower at 6, and left home for work at 6:50. But obviously, she didn't stop worrying about you. When she saw that you weren't at work, she sent another message to you, asking if you were okay. She sighed, putting her phone down and going back to work. No-eul is a lesbian, and you know it perfectly well, however, you don't know that No-eul has had the biggest crush on you since the day you met.
You noticed that No-eul would sometimes flirt with you, but it was all in fun, right? After all, you were completely straight... Right? Well, it was the only (half) secret that No-eul kept from you. She loved you, and tried to show it, but the more she tried, the more blind you became to these facts, and it irritated her. But what irritated -and hurt- the girl the most was when you showed up with your idiot boyfriend. She hated him. The hungry way he always looked at you, the touches on your waist, cheek, neck, or the disgusting kisses on your jaw and down to your neck. It all made her sick. She knew she was better, much, much better than any man you had ever dated, or kissed. She knew you better than anyone else, she knew how to love you, how to treat you like you truly deserve. She just knows better.
And she knows something is wrong when you miss work. She, however, waited until the end of her shift to grab her things, her car keys and drive to your house. She knocked on your door loudly, waiting for your to answer. A minute later, she knocked again, this time longer and stronger. She only stopped when she saw your pajama-clad figure, disheveled and with puffy and red eyes. She was slightly startled and looked you up and down. "What the fuck happened to you?" She asks, looking at you in shock. It’s not like it’s the first time she’s seen you like this, you’ve seen each other in all sorts of ways. But for No-eul to see you in that state was completely abnormal. You made room for the taller one to enter, not saying anything. "Would you like something to drink?" You asked, hoarse from having just woken up, not answering the girl's question.
No-eul walked around the room already familiar, and sat down on the couch. "Water, please..." She answers, looking at you from behind with a frown and half-closed eyes conveying strangeness and concern. When you return, No-eul notices a glass of wine in your left hand, and a glass of water in your right. You place both glass objects on the low table in front of the sofa, and sit on the sofa sideways, standing in front of No-eul. "Are you going to tell me what happened?" No-eul insists, picking up the glass of water and taking a small sip. "You weren't well yesterday when I called you, you miss work, you don't reply to my messages and you still sleep all day. You're not sick, because yesterday you were perfectly fine. What's wrong, Min-young? Is it with your parents? Your sister? Nam-Chul?"
When No-eul says the boy's name, your gaze drops to your lap, holding back tears. You try to hide it, picking up your glass of wine and sipping. Noticing your watery eyes, No-eul's eyes darkened with anger. "What did he do?" She asks, if you didn't know the girl you'd say all her worry was replaced by anger. The girl took a deep breath and leaned her body slightly, touching just above your knee and lowering her face to meet your eyes."I'm your best friend... You can tell me anything. Whatever it is, I'll help you and support you. You know that. But if you want me to help you, you have to talk to me... If you want a hug, I'm here, okay?" You looked into the girl's dark eyes, and you see sincerity in the girl. You thought for a few seconds. It wasn't about whether you wanted to talk to the girl or not, what you wanted most was to tell her this and cry in her arms, but you couldn't speak, it was stuck in your throat.
No-eul realized yourdifficulty and raised her head, sighing. She approached you, and gently grabbed your chin, making you look at her. You obeyed her touch, looking into her eyes once more. "Let's do this...I brought your favorite ice cream," the girl says slowly and quietly, nodding toward the bag left on the floor in the hallway that you hadn't even noticed. "Let's watch a movie or the series you like, while we eat and then if, and I repeat: if you want, you talk about what happened, hum? How does that sound?" The girl asks with a small smile on the corner of her lips, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I like that idea..." You mumble, looking over your shoulder at the bag you left on the floor. "I'm going to take a shower first. You can start getting things ready." No-eul nodded, with a victorious smile and stood up, first picking up the bag, and heading to the kitchen afterwards.
You also got up and went to your room to take a shower. You closed the bedroom door and entered the bathroom, locking the door. You hurried into the shower, wanting to get back to the couch with No-eul. You dried yourself quickly and put on some comfortable clothes, leaving your hair wet. When you returned to the living room, No-eul was already sitting down, with a large blanket on her lap, with several snacks spread out on the small table in front of the couch. You smiled and ran over to her, sitting down on the couch, next to the girl. No-eul is startled, but lets out a laugh and puts an arm behind her back, snuggling closer. You smiled and sighed as you felt the girl's warm body against yours. You adjusted the blanket over the two of them and picked up the remote, choosing a series for both of them to watch. It certainly wasn't how you thought you were going to spend the rest of your afternoon, but that's one of the things you love most about your best friend: the way she always knew what you needed, even when you don't even know what you needed.

The Weight of Words
Pairing: Max Verstappen x Reader
Summary: As Max consoles you through another heartbreak, unspoken feelings linger in the air.
1.7k words / Masterlist
Tumblr media
The room is quiet except for the occasional clink of a bottle against the table, and the hum of the city leaking through the cracked window. You’re sitting on the worn-out couch in your apartment, knees pulled up to your chest, eyes staring at nothing. The weight of another breakup sits heavy on your chest. It’s the same feeling, that familiar ache, the same questions bubbling up in your mind about what went wrong this time.
You don’t know why you called Max. Again.
The silence stretches out between you two, almost unbearable. He’s sitting in the armchair across from you fidgeting with the label on his beer. He hasn’t said much since he got here, but then again he never really needs to. Max is the kind of person who doesn’t need to fill the air with empty words, he’s always been content just being there. And you’ve always appreciated that about him. Even when everything around you is falling apart, Max is steady, a rock amidst the chaos.
“Thanks for coming,” you murmur, your voice cracks just a bit and you hate how vulnerable you sound.
Max glances up,“You don’t have to thank me,” he says, his voice is calm, but you catch the way his eyes linger on you, concern shadowing him. “You know I’m always here when you need me.”
And you do know. Max has been there every single time like clockwork. Every tear-filled phone call, every late-night text when you’re breaking apart at the seams after another relationship crumbles. He’s always shown up, sometimes with no more than a wordless hug, other times with bad jokes to distract you from the pain. But tonight there’s something different in the air. Something heavier. It’s the way he’s sitting, the way his hands keep moving restlessly.
You nod, pulling your sleeves down over your hands as if they can shield you from the vulnerability creeping up on you. You’ve been through this enough times to know the drill, but it doesn’t make it any easier. Every heartbreak feels like it cuts a little deeper, and this time... it’s no different.
“I don’t get it,” you mutter more to yourself than to him. “I keep giving everything and it’s like... it’s never enough. I’m never enough.”
At that Max’s eyes flash up and there’s a slight tightening in his jaw. “You shouldn’t think like that,” he says quietly, it’s soft but firm, and when you look at him there’s a certain intensity in his blue eyes.
“It’s hard not to when the same thing keeps happening,” you say bitterly, shaking your head. “I don’t know, maybe I’m just not cut out for relationships.”
Max shifts, he’s quiet for a long moment, and then he says, “Maybe you’re just... choosing the wrong people.”
You frown, caught off guard by the comment. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He lets out a slow breath, eyes staring down at the bottle in his hand instead of you. “I mean... you always seem to fall for people who don’t really see you. They don’t appreciate what they have.”
There’s a slight edge to his voice, almost frustrated, and it makes you sit up straighter. You shake your head, missing the weight behind his words. “I just don’t understand how I keep falling for people who don’t care.”
Max lets out a breath, he runs a hand through his hair, eyes glancing away for a moment before locking back onto you. “Maybe it’s because you care too much about the wrong people.”
“Max, what’s going on?” you ask softly, your heart picking up pace just a little. You've realised now this isn’t the usual Max, the calm, collected Max who’s always there to soothe your worries.
He hesitates, his fingers drumming on the bottle for a moment before he sets it down on the coffee table a little too forcefully. He leans forward slightly elbows on his knees, as if he's ready to close the gap between you two, but hesitates rubbing a hand over his face.
“It’s just... it’s frustrating, okay?” he says, his blue eyes stormy with emotion you don’t quite recognise. “Seeing you like this, over and over again. You deserve better than these idiots who keep breaking your heart... who don’t appreciate how... how amazing you are.”
His words hang in the air and you blink at him, feeling a mix of surprise and confusion. Max has never really been one to get emotional, not like this. Sure he’s always been protective but this feels... different.
“I know,” you say softly, feeling the sting of truth in his words. “But what am I supposed to do? I can’t just... stop caring. That’s not how it works, it's not who I am.”
Max shakes his head, looking away as if he’s struggling with something, something he’s not sure he should say. “No, you can’t stop caring. But maybe you should start caring about someone who actually sees you.”
You furrow your brows feeling a knot tighten in your chest. “What are you trying to say?”
He swallows hard, his hands clenching into fists in his lap, and for a second you think he’s not going to answer. But then he stands up abruptly pacing a few steps before turning back to face you, his expression raw, like he’s barely holding it together.
“I just wish....” he starts, his voice cracking slightly. “...I wish you would realise how much I like you. How much I care about you.”
Time seems to stop for a moment. The words hit you like a punch to the gut, and you’re left staring at him wide-eyed and speechless, not quite processing what he’s just said.
“Max,” you whisper, barely able to find your voice. “What... what do you mean?”
His expression twists into something pained, he looks away, almost like he regrets saying anything, “I mean, I’ve been sitting here for years watching you go through all these relationships, watching you get your heart broken over and over again by people who don’t even know you, and I can’t stand it anymore.”
Your heart is racing now, pounding in your ears, and you can’t quite believe what you’re hearing. Max has always been there for you, always your best friend, your rock. But this? This is something you never expected. Something you never let yourself consider because, well... it’s Max.
“I didn’t...” You trail off, struggling to find the words. “I didn’t know.”
“Of course you didn’t,” he says, his voice sharp with frustration, though you can tell it’s not directed at you. He’s pacing again, running his hands through his hair, clearly trying to work through everything he’s been bottling up. “You’ve been through so much, you’ve been focusing on people who don’t deserve you. And I didn't wan't to ruin our friendship - didn't wan't to be that guy, and I didn’t want to make things more complicated for you. But...”
He stops and turns to you his expression softening as his shoulders slump, like he’s finally letting his guard down. “But I couldn’t keep it to myself anymore. Not after tonight. Not after seeing you like this again.”
Your mind is spinning. “Max...” Your voice trails off. You don’t know how to respond. Your heart’s racing, your mind’s spinning. How could you have missed this? Max—your Max.
“I don’t know what to say,” you admit.
“You don’t have to say anything,” Max says quickly. “I just needed you to know. Whatever happens, I just... I needed you to know. That’s all.”
There’s a silence between you thick with everything unspoken, and for the first time you feel like you’re seeing Max in a new light. All the times he was there for you, all the moments he stood by your side without asking for anything in return.
You think back to all those nights he comforted you, all the times he’d show up without question, without hesitation. You never thought to wonder why, never questioned his unwavering loyalty. But now, with the weight of his confession hanging between you, you realise that maybe you should have.
“I’m sorry,” you whisper, not even sure what you’re apologising for. Maybe it’s for not seeing it sooner. Maybe it’s for all the times you unknowingly hurt him.
You reach out your hand finding his, and for a moment everything else falls away. It’s just you and Max, standing in the middle of your small apartment, the world outside forgotten. The moment feels fragile, like one wrong move could break it.
Max squeezes your hand, his touch warm and steady, stepping closer. “Don’t be. You didn’t know. You have nothing to be sorry for. Just... don’t keep settling for less than you deserve. That’s all I ask.”
You look up at him feeling the tears prick at the corners of your eyes. “I just... I never thought you felt that way.”
He smiles sadly, reaching out and brushing a tear from your cheek with his thumb. “Yeah, well. I guess I did a pretty good job of hiding it.”
You laugh, but it comes out shaky. “Why didn’t you ever say anything?”
Max’s smile falters, and he looks down, his hand dropping back to his side. “Because like I said I didn’t want to mess things up. I didn’t want you to feel like you had to choose. I thought maybe... maybe it was better if you didn’t know. So you could just... be happy.”
You feel your heart ache at the words, at the thought of him silently trying to put your happiness above his own for so long. It’s overwhelming, the weight of everything he’s been holding onto, and you don’t know what to do with it all.
“But I wasn’t happy,” you say softly, your voice cracking. “Not really, I kept thinking something was missing.”
Max looks at you, and for a moment there’s a flicker of hope in his eyes. But he doesn’t move, doesn’t say anything, like he’s afraid to hope for too much.
“I don’t know what this means,” you admit. “But I do know that I can’t imagine my life without you.”
His eyes soften, and he steps closer, gently taking your hands back in his. “I’m not going anywhere,” he says quietly, his voice steady now. “I’ll always be here. No matter what.”
You look up at him, maybe you don’t have all the answers yet, but as you stand there with Max feeling the warmth of his hands around yours, for the first time in a long time the future doesn’t seem so uncertain.

Sewer Rat (1)
Tumblr media
Summary: He broke your heart. Now he must pay for it.
Pairing: Mobster!Bucky Barnes x fem!Reader, former Mobster!Tony Stark x fem!Reader
Warnings: angst, scared reader, Bucky is scary as shit, mentions of a breakup, Tony is the worst in this (sorry), mentions of groping
Sewer rat masterlist
Tumblr media
He leans back in his expensive leather armchair, one leg crossed over the other. The kingpin of his own castle of blood, fear, and power smirks at you because you hit the bottom.
Coming here was your last resort, and you’ll do anything he wants.
He knows it. You know it. His men aiming their guns at you know it.
James Buchanan Barnes. Cold-hearted and calculating boss of the most feared organization in town. Well, except the one your boyfriend leads—or rather ex-boyfriend.
“What can I do for you, doll?” He clings his pinky ring against the glass filled with the most expensive whiskey a man can buy for money. Bucky watches you with those cold steel-blue eyes, making you shrink into yourself.
“I—” Your voice cracks. “I need your help.” You bite your lower lip, chewing on it. “I think you already heard what happened.”
“Oh, that—” He smirks while his eyes are glued to your trembling lips. Bucky enjoys your predicament; you’re sure about it. “It spread like wildfire that you are no longer Tony Stark’s arm candy, doll.”
“I wasn’t his...” you trail off. Bucky is right. After what happened a few hours ago, you know you were never more than a body he could use. A pretty thing to dress up and show off to his friends and allies.
Bucky takes a small sip of his drink, humming as the amber liquid burns on his tongue just right. “You were only his pretty doll to play with,” he insists as you drop your gaze and nod. Beggars can’t be choosers, so you’ll just let Bucky throw everything he wants your way. “Now that he’s done playing, he tossed you onto the street.”
“Mr. Barnes,” you say, and take one step toward Bucky, causing his men to unlock their guns. Your body goes stiff, and you hastily lift your hands in the air. “I-I…” You whimper in fear.
“Guys, relax,” Bucky laughs. “We checked her on weapons, didn’t we?” He quirks a brow and looks in Steve’s direction.”
“Rumlow did,” Steve replies, and goes back to watching your every move.
“Hmm…yeah,” Rumlow replies. He licks his lips as you drop your gaze. “She was soft and warm but not armed, boss.”
Bucky makes a face but doesn’t say a thing. Rumlow can get a bit handsy when it comes to pretty ladies. He doesn’t blame him, though. “So, no weapons, gentlemen. Please relax and secure your guns. I’d hate to shed her blood.”
“Got it, boss,” the men murmured in unison and secured their guns. “What are our orders?”
They expectantly look at Bucky, awaiting his orders. He leans forward, eyes glued to your exposed legs. Bucky licks his lips before he washes the taste of victory down with the rest of his whiskey.
“I want her to tell me what happened tonight,” he smirks and winks at you. “Come on, doll. Amuse me.”
“He kicked me out,” you stubbornly glare at Bucky. He’s enjoying this a little too much. “You already know that, Mr. Barnes.”
Bucky’s features darken. He slowly rises from his seat to stalk toward you. Bucky grips your face with his metal hand, making you whimper in fear.
“If I ask you a question, I expect you to answer me. Tell me every little detail, Y/N.” He leans closer to breathe in your face. You can smell the alcohol he drank and his cologne.
“He told me to leave, believing I am cheating on him,” you splutter without thinking twice. If Bucky wants to know every detail, you’ll give him the full heartbreak experience. “I tried to tell him that it’s not true, but Tony wouldn’t listen. He saw me with an old friend and assumed the worst. That old friend is in town to get married. He asked me to meet up with him to catch up. I used to work at the library with him.”
“What else?” He whispers in your ear, almost gently. If not for his metal hand holding your chin in a tight grip, you’d believe he’s a gentle man wanting to flirt with you. “Doll. I want to know everything.”
You sniffle. It’s so hurtful to repeat the words Tony threw at you after he dragged you out of the showers. Not half an hour ago you made love, and then he kicked you out of his life.
“Please don’t make me say it.”
“I want to hear everything, or you can go out there and try your luck,” Bucky growls in your ear. “I’m waiting. Time is running out on you.”
“He called me a sewer rat, and that he regrets bringing me into his life,” you choke out a sob, remembering the hatred in Tony’s voice. “He said that it would’ve been if he left me out there for dying.”
“And he just did that, didn’t he?” Bucky steps away. His hand drops from your chin as you look at him with watery eyes.
He’s not wrong. Tony pushed you out of his house in nothing but a towel. You barely had the time to grab your bathrobe before you ended up on the sidewalk in front of his house.
Bucky’s eyes drop to your bare feet. Now dirty and full of blisters. You had to walk toward the next house, begging them to allow you to call someone for help.
None of your so-called friends answered. Suddenly you were dead to them. You left the house, sitting on the sidewalk, until a black SUV stopped right next to you. Calling Bucky to beg him for help was your last resort. You remember his number because Tony saved it under “the devil.”.
“So, you came here to ask me for help?” Bucky laughs in your face, but you can’t find your situation funny. “You got that I’m your sugar daddy’s enemy.” He quirks a brow when you stubbornly lift your chin and glare his way.
You square your jaw before you nod. “I know you hate each other and that you’d love to take over his empire.” You smirk now as you get something out of the pocket of your bathrobe. “If you promise to help me get revenge on him, I’ll help you bring him down.”
You throw Tony’s little black book in Bucky’s lap. “What’s that?”
“A list of people he pays to look the other way,” you take a careful step toward Bucky. “This is a pledge of our confidence, and such a pledge is justified only if you do your part too. If so, I can help you bring him down.”
“How?” Bucky smirks as he thumbs through the little black book. “You were his bed bunny, not his right-hand man.”
“Oh, didn’t you know that men love to talk about business in bed? During sex, after, or while I suck them off?” You snap at Bucky. “Tony is very talkative, close to an orgasm, or after. All men are.”
“You’re a little vixen, huh?” Bucky seems to be amused, but his mind is running a mile in a minute. If you know more about Tony’s business, Bucky could easily take one of his biggest enemies down. “What do you want in return?”
“You will protect me until I’m back on my feet. I’ll need a little money to leave town and start anew somewhere far away from here. Whatever you do to Tony, I don’t care because I won’t be around when it happens.”
Bucky looks at the little black book again. He heard about it through the grapevine. Tony Stark is an old-fashioned man in many ways. He loves technology but doesn’t trust it enough to save his contacts on his computer.
“If you can deliver me more information, you’ve got yourself a deal, doll,” he holds out his hand, smirking as you reluctantly shake it. “Steve, make sure that Natasha gets my new informant new clothes and toiletries. Rumlow, tell the maid to prepare the guestroom next to my bedroom. Y/N and I have a lot to discuss, gentlemen. Please leave us alone now.”
The men leave the room without a second glance. Only Steve, Bucky’s best friend since childhood and the most trusted man, stays put.
He watches you with interest as you stand next to his friend. Lion with its prey. Steve thinks to himself. He pities you because you have no clue what you got yourself into.

Fem Mortal Reader x Yandere Hestia, but the reader isn't a pushover.
:)
yandere! Hestia x fem! mortal! Reader - ♡ general hcs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings -> none....it's hestia...actually, slight clinginess??
paring/s -> yandere! Hestia x mortal! fem! reader (gender of the reader isn't mentioned or relevant tbh)
a/n -> rising from my grave to finish this
————————————————————
-> meeting her as a mortal means that you're probably gonna meet her in your fireplace
-> the most likely scenario is that you had just faced one of the worst heartbreaks in your life— losing a family member, a regular breakup, whatever
-> Hestia, being who she is, would probably not be able to bear the sight of someone in pain, guiding the fire to warm you up, flames flickering up towards you as if in a comforting manner
-> her presence is a very comforting and homely feeling and when she concentrates on a particular hearth, her power increases tenfold
-> probably resulting in you dozing off in a cozy armchair, fast asleep like your world hadn't just come crashing down around you
-> she watches you sleep so peacefully (but like- in a non creepy way)
-> she keeps on at it for a while, watching you do your daily chores for a while, admiring you from a safe distance and slowly falling for you
-> I don't think Hestia would even bother trying to disguise herself as a regular human to you, she just pops up in your fireplace one day and shyly starts a conversation
-> Depending on your reaction, she'd either cool you down or happily continue your conversation like literally nothing ever happened
-> I'm not gonna go into details but she'd win you over pretty damn quickly and starts dating you as soon as possible
(now for some domestic fluff...cuz it's hestia)
-> I have this headcanon that because Hestia is the goddess of family, she'd know all the best picnic spots
-> like you cannot tell me that she wouldn't know the most gorgeous cliffside overlooking a sea view in the world and take you there as a date
-> she likes baking for you because she adores how your face lights up when she makes you those cookies you love so much
-> she already knows your allergies and taste in food so don't even bother telling her, she's already got the best recipes she has set in mind :)
-> she likes taking you on peaceful walks with her while she's disguised as a human
-> watching all the different people walk by with their dogs, significant others, etc, etc makes her very happy
-> she'll point out to you all the small, gorgeous details your eyes might've missed
->she wants to show you the beauty of the world you live in!
-> definitely takes you to visit her favourite places in greece
->dresses up like a local that the people know well by now and takes you to her favourite parts of her homeland <3
->wants you to try all the native food, 100%
->when it comes to the issue of her being an immortal goddess and you being a regular ol mortal with a short life span (compared to her anyway), she'll try to convince you to let her feed you nectar
->obviously, you say something along the lines of 'fuck no'
->she's devastated when you abandon her at the table in the restaurant she took you to, to run away
->keeps popping up in the hearth whenever you light your fire (only for you to extinguish the flames with water)
->she finally gets you to have a normal, healthy conversation with her when she catches you off guard while you're napping by the fireplace
->would probably end with a compromise (somehow) that she'd make your closest friends and family immortal with you so that you'd all be able to live together
->after that, your relationship is pretty much smooth sailing
->Hestia isn't a very possessive or jealous person and she usually communicates that she's uncomfortable when she is
->cuz, y'know...she's actually sane (unlike the rest of her siblings and nephews and nieces)
->adopts an animal with you, a hundred percent <3
->likes cuddling you in her hearth, because it's so warm and cozy that you always end up falling asleep on her chest
->and she likes that :)
->takes you up to Olympus because she isn't scared of someone else taking you away
->none of the gods would even try because who would want to make Hestia upset? (especially cause it's mostly out of fondness, rather than terror *cough cough* Athena *cough cough*)
->anyway, she's probably one of the best girlfriends in the world <3
->can't and doesn't marry you because of her vow, but gives you a promise ring and lets you give her one if you really wanted to <3
->mostly just overly clingy, staying by your side whenever she can and hearth-hopping to wherever you go— work, out with friends, etc
BONUS!
-> she leaves you with Aphrodite if she's busy, because Aphrodite thinks you're adorable and always spends her time with you helping her doves make you all pretty for Hestia, Cinderella's fairy godmother style :)

Boring | Min Yoongi
Tumblr media
Summary: The morning after going home with Yoongi, you're suddenly feeling unsure about the nature of your relationship. You're left with many questions and you're nervous to get your answers.
{Chapter One} {Chapter Two} {Chapter Three} Chapter Four
Word Count: 2k
Hours later, your head lay on Yoongi’s chest. Upon arriving at his apartment, the two of you burst through the door, lips locked as he guided you through his apartment and into his bedroom. You didn't even have time to look around and get a glimpse of the way he lived as he hadn’t turned on any lights. Everything had been so rushed, and though you felt like your head was spinning with worries on how it would impact the two of you around the office, you had decided during the car ride to his apartment that this was a scenario you had been dreaming of the whole time you had worked for Yoongi.
In many ways, you felt as if everything flew by in a few minutes, but at the same time, you felt as if you were in his bed, with his hands all over you for hours. He was so attentive, so slow with his movements that at times you were pleading for him to go faster. His eyes stayed locked on yours, and the only times they weren’t was when Yoongi’s head lay in the crook of your neck, moaning your name.
By the next morning, everything looked completely different in the daylight. The previously pitch black bedroom now looked bright and colorful. The walls were a light cream color and the bed sheets were black. He had the minimalist approach going on as your eyes scanned the neatly organized room. His dresser matches the two night stands on either side of the bed, both black. He had a huge TV mounted on the wall and an attached bathroom that looked right out of a movie or one of those really fancy hotels. You glanced over at Yoongi, who was still fast asleep. You didn’t want to wake him, considering that it was a Saturday. As you watched his chest rise and fall steadily, you started to think about what you were going to say to him once he woke up. Were you dating now?, And if you were dating, could you tell anyone? You contemplated quickly gathering your discarded clothes and sneaking out, but you knew that wouldn’t be right. The best thing to do was to talk to Yoongi when he woke up. So in the meantime, you decided to at least put your clothes back on since all you had to cover yourself with was his bedsheets.
Upon redressing, you peered into an open door, next to Yoongi’s dresser. At first you thought it was another entrance to the bathroom, but as you got closer, you saw what looked like a clothing hanger. You peered back over at Yoongi, still fast asleep before you inched closer towards the mystery room. And that was when you saw it. A closet the size of his bedroom. Probably the biggest closet you’d ever see in your entire life. WIth drawers and shelves lining the walls. An armchair situated in the corner of the room. You audibly gasped at the sight of it. You knew Yoongi was a wealthy man considering he was the CEO of his own company. However, you never actually thought about how rich he exactly was. Now you really started to feel conflicted about the nature of your relationship. You started to become concerned with the thought of a power imbalance. WIth Yoongi being your boss and having so much more money than you. You weren’t sure if the two of you would be able to make it work. Or for that matter, be a good match. Maybe you’d have too many differences. And what if you ever broke up? Then you’d most likely be out of a job. You felt the beginnings of a pit start to form in your stomach at all of the pessimistic thoughts. What had it been? 16 hours since your relationship started and you were already planning for your first steps after a breakup…
You headed back to bed, laying back down beside Yoongi, feeling unsure if you were hoping he’d wake up or give you a few more minutes to spiral with your thoughts.
However, your choice was made for you when you heard Yoongi stir, so you turned to face him, waiting for him to open his eyes. A few minutes later, they did just that. His dark eyes fluttered open and upon his gaze falling on you, a smile was immediately evident on his formerly blank facial features. “Good morning”, he said as he pulled you into his warm body. You hummed in contentment as you listened to his breathing. “Did you sleep well?”, Yoongi questioned as he kissed the top of your head.
“Yes, how about you?”, you responded back. You weren’t completely sure of what the protocol is after spending a night with someone. You really hadn’t done that thing, except for the only other boyfriend you’d had a few years ago. But you’d never spent the night with him, so this was all so new to you on many levels.
“I slept better with you here.”, he quipped. You felt your face get hot upon hearing that. You covered your face with your hands and felt Yoongi’s chest vibrate as he let out a very soft laugh. He was still waking up from his sleep as his eyes were now closed again.
“Do you have any plans today?”, you questioned, curious to know what his next move was. He opened his eyes again and stared up at the ceiling, his arm still around you.
“Hm. I don’t think so. I assumed I’d spend the day with you?”, he replied, looking down at you. You were shocked to hear that he wanted to spend the whole day with you and you accidentally made that known when you let out an, ‘Oh’, that seemed to catch Yoongi off guard. “Unless you have things to do”, he said quickly, “I probably should’ve asked first before assuming…”, he said, trailing off.
“No, no, no. I just, I was shocked you’d want to keep me around.”, you joked as you lifted your head up to look at him. “Only thing is, I have to go home and change.”, you smiled as you gestured at your day-old clothes.
Yoongi smiled at you as he nodded his head. “Understood.”, he replied back as he sat up. “Are you hungry? I can make us something to eat?”. Now it was your turn to nod as you both got up and ventured into the kitchen.
An hour later, after eating one of the best breakfasts you’d had in a long time, you had teasingly asked Yoongi for a tour of his apartment, which he agreed to give you. After he had shown you around almost every room in his apartment. Which was no small feat considering he showed around his living room which had all kinds of framed photographs, plants, a grand piano, and probably the largest TV you’d ever seen. Then of course the beautiful kitchen which you were already familiar with, then his home office that had a very specced out computer and two monitors, along with more basketball memorabilia that matched what you had seen in his office. Then came the guest bedroom which seemed to be the same size of his own, minus the ginormous closet and expensive bathroom. To put in perspective, his “guest bathroom” was nicer than the one in your apartment…
Then, you were back in his bedroom. “And well, you’re already familiar with this.”, Yoongi said as he gestured towards his bed. You turned your attention towards the far right door, the one you’d been shocked to discover an hour earlier. “Ah, the closet? I thought you’d find it interesting.”, he smirked as he grabbed your hand and walked you towards it. As you stepped inside and watched Yoongi switch the light on, your eyes lit up upon seeing the huge room with a light source. It was even bigger when fully illuminated. Yoongi watched you intently as you looked around.
“Yoongi? I just, wow…How often do you come in here?”, you questioned as you looked at the built in shelves. You recognized the familiar ties, all neatly displayed, easy and ready to be grabbed and worn. His suits were hung neatly on hangers. Yoongi chuckled at your question as he leaned against the doorframe.
“Well, I come in here when I have to get ready for work. Somebody comes once a week to organize it. Normally I’m at the office late, so I needed the help around here…”, he explained. You couldn’t believe it. You were in your boss’s house and he was showing you around his extravagant apartment and you were currently in his closet, one that would put Barbie’s to shame might you add, as he told you about how he pays people to do his house chores. Meanwhile, you had to bring your clothes to a laundromat five blocks away from you. Before you could say anything though, Yoongi continued. “You know, I come home to this apartment every night. And don’t get me wrong, I love it, it’s my home after all. But, it’s too big for one person. I always wanted to share all of this with someone. This closet we’re in…It’s too big for just one person. I like looking at you in it. I like seeing you in my bed, sitting on a chair in my kitchen. I want you in my life, Y/n.”, he expressed, staring at you with a look of almost…dare you say, desperation?
“Yoongi, I- I want to be with you but I just want you to know. All of this, though it’s fun to be shown, I don’t want any of this. I just want you. At the end of the day, even if you lived in a tiny apartment with just one room and a bathroom, and you had $50 to your name, I’d still want to be with you, because at the end of the day, it’s you, Min Yoongi that’s had me going so crazy all of this time.” you said as you walked over to him, taking his hands in yours as you gazed into his eyes.
“I’m crazy about you.”, he whispered as he laid his forehead against your own. Yoongi’s lips hovered over your own as your eyes fleeted back and forth between his eyes and lips.  Just like the previous night, there you were again, against a door as your bodies pressed against each other. You felt that familiar sensation of heat travel down your body as Yoongi rested his hands on your waist, pinching and pulling at your shirt. However, unlike yesterday, there was no sense of nervousness. And suddenly you felt this wave of new found confidence come over you. “I’m crazier about you”, you whispered back. Yoongi let out what sounded almost like a growl as his lips found yours, no hesitancy whatsoever. The kiss now felt familiar. It was tender and loving as his hands started to travel up and down your body. Your own hands found their way into his hair again as he pulled your body even closer into his own if that was even possible.   The kisses transitioned into something a bit slower. Yoongi’s tongue found its way into your mouth as you let out a quiet moan. He flipped you over so you were now the one leaning against the doorframe as he moved his hands under your butt to lift you up and carry you over to the bed. His tongue wrestled your own for dominance as he laid you down on the bed, hovering over you. You felt the bulge in his sweatpants become more prominent as your fingers toyed with the bottom of his shirt. The previously tender kiss became more impatient as you both began tugging at each other's clothing.
That whole Saturday would be spent in Yoongi’s bed. The next night the two of you spent it in yours. Monday morning, you were both 15 minutes late to work and didn’t even care.

{A/N: Hi everyone! So, I was procrastinating writing this because I really didn't want to disappoint anyone with this fanfic. I was brainstorming all week, and I finally sat down to write it. I didn't expect to hear much feedback from this story, but after I posted the third chapter, I got quite a few very sweet comments/messages between here on Tumblr and on AO3. It made me so happy to read that people really enjoyed this series. I know some might want more chapters or a sequel and I'm not opposed to that. I might do another chapter after this to really wrap things up. I've been trying my best with the "explicit" stuff, since I don't normally write very in-depth sex scenes or even kissing scenes (one of my biggest regrets with my Jaehyun fic series was not going into more detail😭) So, I've taken this fanfic as an opportunity to play around with wording and just in general get more comfortable writing those types of scenes, so the support a lot of you have given this series means a lot to me and has really helped my confidence to write. Because let me tell you, when you're writing any type of romance, you definitely need to spice up your storylines. Anyways, you know the drill....I love all of you and I hope you have a great day or night❤️}

You and bestie Aegon are proper party freaks. Your life is a glittering rollerocaster of whiskey, cigs, and banging tunes. So when Aegon invites you to his ancestral home for the summer, why are you so attracted to his highbrow uncle?

When your number 1 bestie (he'd gut you if you said otherwise) Aegon Targaryen first invited you to spend the summer with him at Dragonstone Manor, you were skeptical. Aegon was your best friend, a proper party freak like you, always up for a good time. He'd been there through everything, every shitty breakup, every hangover nursed with a takeaway.
You were the hottest students at Blackwater University and by Gods did you two know it.
Spending a summer with Aegon promised excitement, but there was something about leaving the familiar chaos of city life for the unknown allure of his ancestral home of Dragonstone that made you pause.
Yet, here you were, standing at the grand entrance of Dragonstone Manor, gazing at its ancient stone walls that seemed to tower into the sky, trying not to throw up from nerves. You could handle a rave, but meeting family was a different story.
Aegon bounded up the steps ahead of you, his platinum hair shining in the sunlight, and pushed open the large oak doors. You thanked the Gods he was chiller than you were right now.
"Welcome to Dragonstone, babe," he declared with a cheeky grin. "The place is a bit stuffy, but it grows on you. Wait till you meet my family. They're gonna love you."
The manor was as grand inside as you had imagined, with its sprawling hallways and majestic portraits lining the walls. You were introduced to Aegon’s mother, Alicent, who pecked both of your cheeks rather formally. You already knew Aemond from several nights out, and Daeron and Helaena seemed intrigued by the idea of Aegon’s infamous friend joining them for the summer.
But it was Gwayne Hightower, Alicent's brother, Aegon’s uncle, who caught your attention more than anyone else. He stood slightly behind the crowd in the hallway.
Tall, impeccably dressed, with an air of authority that made everyone around him stand a little straighter, Gwayne was dashingly handsome in a classic sort of way. His eyes seemed to appraise you with a besmused curiosity, and you felt slightly tingly under his heavy gaze.
“Ah, so you’re the famous companion we’ve heard so much about,” he said, his voice smooth and rich, like a well-aged whiskey. You crumbled inside a bit. Older men were your weakness.
You flashed a winning smile, suddenly aware of the heat creeping up your neck. “And you must be the uncle Aegon's been warning me about.”
His lips twitched with a smirk, his gaze never wavering. “I assure you, the stories are greatly exaggerated.”
The days at Dragonstone slipped by in a haze of sunlit afternoons spent in the pool, endless nights drinking the finest of wines and sampling Aemond's cigar collection. Aegon was right—his family was incredible, and it wasn’t long before you felt like you belonged. Gwayne, however, remained a mystery to you. He was always polite, always courteous, but there was an edge to his interactions with you that you couldn't quite place.
Your mind often wandered to him, especially during those long, lazy evenings where you’d find him reclining in a leather armchair in the manor’s library, a book in one hand, a glass of some expensive amber liquid in the other. He seemed amused by your antics with Aegon, his eyes glinting with a knowing that left you rather flustered.
One particularly sultry evening, Aegon suggested a trip to Dragonstone nightclub, a renowned hotspot in the manor's adjacent town.
“You up for it?” Aegon asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
You grinned. “Always.”
Sneaking out of the manor was no small feat, but you and Aegon were experts at slipping past watchful eyes. The club was everything you expected and more—loud music, pulsating lights, and a throng of people moving in rhythm to the DJ’s beats. You lost yourselves to the night, wrapped up in the freedom that only a place like this could offer. You kept it light on the drinking but indulged in wandering the streets at night, arm in arm with Aegon, cigarette dangling from your lips.
But as the hours passed and Aegon started yawning, then you both knew it was time to head back. Aegon, ever the responsible one when it came to these outings, guided you back to the manor with a practised stealth.
You giggled softly as you crept through the darkened halls, your heart racing not from fear of getting caught but from the thrill of it all. Yet, as you turned a corner, you stopped short. Standing at the end of the hallway, arms crossed, and gaze piercing, was Gwayne.
Next to him stood Alicent, looking less than amused. Her eyes softened when they landed on Aegon, a hint of disappointment mingling with fondness.
“Aegon,” she sighed, “we’ve talked about this.”
Aegon rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Sorry, mummy.” He glanced at you with a helpless smile. You smiled reassuringly back.
With a firm hand, she steered him away, leaving you alone with Gwayne. You stood there, feeling like a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Gwayne watched you, his expression unreadable, though there was a gleam in his eyes that spoke volumes. He moved forward slowly, shoes clicking on the floor. You felt your heart rate speed up a tad.
“Looks like you’re not as elusive as you thought,” he said, a hint of amusement in his tone.
You shrugged, trying to muster up some semblance of nonchalance. “Guess we got a bit carried away.”
He stepped closer, the warmth of his presence enveloping you, sending a shiver of anticipation down your spine. There was something different about him now, something that promised a departure from the composed exterior he usually presented.
“Carried away indeed,” he mused, his gaze fixed intently on you. His voice was so deep and firm that you felt yourself shiver with need. “And just what... do you suppose we do about that?"
You swallowed, the playful bravado you had so easily maintained with Aegon slipping away in the face of Gwayne’s intensity. The air between you crackled with an unspoken tension, a magnetic pull that left you breathless.
“I suppose,” you started, your voice a touch unsteady, “a punishment is in order?”
A slow, delighted smile spread across his face, one that promised danger. He nodded, his eyes never leaving yours. “I’d say that’s fair.”
Without another word, he grasped your hand hard, and he led you through the dimly lit halls to his study, a room you had only glimpsed from afar. The door clicked shut behind you, the sound echoing like a heartbeat in the silence.
He moved closer, the rich scent of his cologne mingling with the aged aroma of whiskey, a heady combination that made you feel lightheaded.
“You’re quite the little rebel, aren’t you?” he remarked, hands reaching up to rest on your shoulders.
You met his gaze, a challenge sparking within you. “Only when I have a reason to be.”
He chuckled, a low, indulgent sound that reverberated through you. “And tonight? Was it worth it?”
Every part of you screamed yes, your pussy thrumming with want and your body aching to be touched. You nodded, unable to trust your voice, knowing full well that he could read you like a book.
Gwayne moved fluidly, almost predatory, closing the distance between you with deliberate intent, lips finding yours swiftly. Your knees weakened at his domineering kiss. He reached out, his fingers brushing against your cheek, tracing a path down to your jaw.
“You’ve been quite the distraction since you arrived,” he confessed, his voice a low rumble that rasied goosebumps across your skin.
His touch was electrifying. You leaned into it, admitting silently that you felt the same pull, the same allure that had drawn you to him from the start.
“Distraction?” you managed, the word a whisper in the charged air.
“Indeed,” he replied, his thumb brushing lightly across your bottom lip. “One I find myself increasingly unwilling to ignore.”
He kissed you again then, a sudden, searing press of lips that left you gasping and wanting more. His hands found your waist, pulling you closer as you responded with equal fervour, the world around you fading as the kiss deepened, igniting a fire within that had been smouldering since your first encounter. You moaned helplessly into his hot mouth, and he laughed.
His lips trailed a path down your neck, each kiss a brand that marked you as his. You arched against him, a soft moan escaping your lips as he nipped at the sensitive skin, his hands exploring with a confidence that left you breathless. He bit down onto your tender skin and you felt tears welling at your desperation.
"Please!" You gasped. "Touch me!" He clicked his tongue.
"Patience, girl. You've been so naughty, do you think you deserve my cock?" His words sent your cheeks flaming. He was obviously amused at your wordless arousal. He gripped you tight and walked you over to his armchair. He sat down , leaving you to stand in between his legs, shaking slightly. He rubbed your thighs, as if you calm you
"Now, my girl," he said softly but firmly. "You said you needed a punishment. Lie down across my legs with that delicious ass in the air." Your eyes widened, and you followed his command without question.
He lifted up your skirt and pulled down your panties, making a noise of approval as you mewled for attention. Hands kneaded your ass, and you could feel the hardness of his cock press into your stomach.
Before you could open your mouth, he spanked you hard, making you lurch slightly and cry out. His hands smoothed over the reddened skin.
"Naughty girl. Do you know how much I've had to restrain myself? Seeing you prance around these halls with those gorgeous tits and your short skirts? How many times I've imagined how that pretty face would look as I made you cum?" He rumbled, striking your ass again. You could feel the sharp tingle of a bruise and the wetness between your thighs.
"Gwayne!" You cried out, hands gripping the armchair. "Please, please, I'm sorry for being a bad girl. I'll be good for you, I promise!"
Gwayne tutted in agreement, sliding a finger through your soaked pussy lips. You kneened at the touch, begging for more.
"Oh you little thing," he sighed heavily with lust. "I'll make you all mine, my good girl."
He lifted you up, helping you walk with wobbly legs over to his desk. You gave no resistance as he bent you over, shucking your top off and unzipping his trousers. He leant down, pressing himself against your back. You felt his hot, lengthy cock press between your asscheeks.
He grasped your jaw, turning your head to kiss you aggressively. You moaned, grinding your ass back to him.
"So eager, such a good girl." He gasped out, nudging his cock into your soaked pussy. A hand reached down to circle your clit as he thrusted into you. Both of you moaned at how good it felt. Gwayne seemed struck by how tight your pussy squeezed his cock, so warm and wet. You felt fuller than ever, feeling his heavy balls slap against your pussy as he fucked you.
Gwayne’s other hand was pressed against the small of your back, watching how your ass shook as he fucked you hard and fast. He reached up, twisting your hair in his fist and pulling, not enough to hurt but enough to make your pussy blaze. You arched your back, mouth open in a silent moan, feeling his cock rut against your sweet insides. His breath was hot and heavy on your neck. Gwayne bit onto your neck, your hands scratching the oak of the desk as you felt your orgasm rise up in your battered pussy.
"Cum for me, my good girl," he rasped. "Cum for me and I'll give you a reward. I'll fill up that little pussy the way you want, little slut." You mewled, his finger insistent on your clit. Without warning, Gwayne ripped an orgasm from you, making your pussy squeeze him in an anaconda like grip as he gasped. He moaned loudly, thrusting in fully to cum, filling up your pussy with white hot cum. He collapsed on top of you, panting, as your head swam with pleasure.
Gwayne managed to right himself up, pulling you into his arms. He held you for a very long time, kissing you gently and softly praising you.
Gwayne watched you, his gaze soft yet intense, as if memorising every detail. His fingers brushed idly against your cheek.
“Well,” he murmured, a teasing smile playing on his lips, “consider your punishment complete.”
You laughed softly. “If that’s what punishment feels like, I might have to misbehave more often.”

gimme kiss #41 😎
41. A kiss out of spite
"Chrissy will you–– Hey, man move it–– Will you please just talk to me? Chrissy! Babe, wait up!"
Chrissy was resolute in her marching through the party, red solo cup held above her head to avoid knocking into the swaying bodies. Avoiding the possibility of covering either herself or someone else in wet.
Though she'd swapped her vodka soda out for a water as soon as she saw Jason walk through the doors of the house party they were apparently both attending. She'd have to be sober if she wanted to remain resolute in this breakup.
Her defenses never failed to fall when she got tipsy, and she absolutely refused to take Jason back again. No way, no how, no sir. He was an asshole, and yeah, it had unfortunately taken her most of high school and half of college to realize it, but she couldn't exactly un-realize it now.
Of course, he would just happen to be at the one party she decided to attend this semester since the breakup. After vetting his calls for the past three months and being conveniently out of her apartment whenever he came around (she sent a silent thank you to Heather and Robin for playing up how busy she was as she hid in her bedroom while he was at the door), of course he was doing his absolute best to grab her attention here, of all places.
In public.
It would be mortifying if it wasn't so sad.
Dipping into the basement, Chrissy made her way through yet another throng of bodies before shoving herself into a small clearing. A deep inhale and an exasperated exhale ignited a chuckle from across the way, and Chrissy glanced up.
Oh.
What a pretty boy.
Blinking some of the haze out of her eyes, Chrissy watched the way he tilted his head to one side in curiosity as his eyes darted from her feet to her face. Then, making the trek again but far, far more slowly, Chrissy felt something heated curling dangerously in her stomach.
"All good, toots?" he asked, his voice just loud enough to carry over the din of noise. "Seems like you just ran a marathon. Not all that to find little ol' me, I assume?"
Those dark eyes were alight with some unnamed mischief Chrissy suddenly found herself desperate to identify. He was alone, sitting in the corner of the basement with a cigarette between his lips and a half-beaten lunchbox at his feet. Like some nefarious prince on a deserted island, there was a strange berth of space around him. People milling about but never daring to get too close.
But his question was like a welcoming hand stretching the distance. He'd lowered a moat over crocodile-infested waters and was waiting for her to cross.
She didn't hesitate his extension of refuge.
Plopping wearily down on the small stool he had cleared for her next to his armchair, Chrissy groaned as she rubbed her temples. Setting the red cup at her feet and taking yet another deep, slow breath.
"So, uh," the guy began, sitting forward until he could catch her eye before she let her head droop between her knees. "You come here often?"
Snorting, Chrissy rolled her eyes.
"What, dingy basements at parties?"
"Dingy basements in general." He sat back, crossing his arms over his chest and drawing Chrissy's attention to the stretch of his t-shirt beneath the leather jacket he wore. "Not to, y'know, toot my own horn, but they're kinda my domain, and I've never seen you around."
Once more looking her up and down and igniting that same detrimental heat in her gut, he winked at her. Chrissy almost swooned, cheeks growing warm under his obvious appreciation.
"I'd remember," he finished.
Clearing her throat, Chrissy crossed her legs and smoothed her skirt down.
"I'm not a frequent flyer, no," she admitted. "I don't often even come to these parties, to be honest, but––"
"Ah," the boy said, grinning. "Knew it. You looked like more of an upstairs gal. Never deigned these poor basement dwellers worthy of your presence."
That wasn't necessarily a lie, and Chrissy pursed her lips to quell her indignation. Basements had reputations at parties like this. It was where dark corners lit up with the haze of marijuana and various other substances.
"I don't hold myself to that high of a standard," she muttered instead, making the boy laugh.
"Well, color me lucky, I guess," he chuckled. "That your first foray into the dark might've put you in my path, I mean." Waggling his eyebrows, he let his gaze dip down, then back up. "Maybe having a pretty thing like you on my arm will drum up some business."
"Business?" Chrissy questioned just as her eyes, for the first time, glanced away from the boy and toward the stairs. Pulled by peripheral motion, Chrissy watched from her perch as a familiar head of blond hair came flouncing down each step. Half-hidden by the crowd, he hadn't yet seen her, but she had the vantage point to see him searching for her.
"Oh, nuggets," Chrissy whispered, glancing frantically around for a better hiding spot before Jason found her. The boy at her side seemed to clock her sudden spike of anxiety, his eyes following hers to the new arrival and narrowing.
"Hey, princess, you alright?" he asked, leaning toward her. "You, uh, need me to, y'know, take care of anything?"
His insinuation went entirely over her head as the panic set in, but a different idea somehow managed to infiltrate the static mess of her thoughts.
"Would you kiss me?" she asked, her voice pitched with desperation. The guy's eyes widened impossibly, drawing attention to the thick, unfair ring of eyelashes that framed them. Eyes darting toward Jason, who was facing the other direction, then back again, Chrissy punctuated her question with a little, "Please?"
"Fuck," the boy muttered, ashing his mostly-ignored cigarette in a nearby tray and tangling his fingers in her hair. "Yeah, uh, yeah, sure, whatever the lady doth request."
He tried to pull her in, but the distance between his chair and her stool was too great. Chrissy scrabbled to her knees, hitching a leg over the arm of the chair and half-landing on his lap. The boy chuckled, the sound mingling with Chrissy's giggle as he rested his free hand on her waist and drew her in properly.
"This alright?" he asked, his lips centimeters from hers. Making her heart drum violently in her chest. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw the exact moment Jason noticed her, picking his way through the room with demands that people move out of his way.
"This is perfect," she responded, letting her eyes linger just long enough to grab Jason's attention before she was turning back and closing the gap between her lips and the boy's.
And she forgot, all at once, that she was trying to get back at her ex-boyfriend.
He was a flavor she was unaccustomed to, but suddenly craved. Cigarette, yeah, but it was more than that. It was a deep earthiness melded with something minty, like he'd been chewing gum, maybe. Chrissy moaned, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and pulling herself closer. Sliding from her awkward perch on the arm of the chair and completely into his lap, Chrissy lost herself entirely in his kiss.
He felt so incredibly solid. The hand in her hair pulsed slightly, fingertips gently scrubbing against her scalp with every breathy sound she made. His other hand on her waist squeezed slightly, his palm warm and pleasant on the slight amount of skin she had showing between her top and her skirt. His thighs were sturdy beneath hers, muscle hidden beneath all that black denim.
Someone said her name, she was pretty sure. Yelled it, actually, making the boy growl as he pulled away from her dazed, bee-stung lips.
"Hey, man, fuck off," the boy demanded. "I'm trying to have some quality time with my girl."
Without the hush of the boy's kiss calming her mind, she could hear Jason behind her positively seething.
"Your girl?" he asked, his voice pitched with anger. "She's my girl, dick!"
Still, he dared not intervene. The guilt of his own actions outweighing his apparent claim over their dead relationship. Trying to resuscitate one half of a heart that had happily flatlined months ago.
Looking at her, then over her shoulder with a little smirk, the boy shrugged. Every gesture he made was so incredibly close, and Chrissy cataloged them all in her mind. Filing them away for later dissection.
"Really doesn't seem to be the case, my guy. Why don't you run along home to your little jock itch teammates and try to circle jerk the infection away, huh?"
Jason said something else, but Chrissy didn't hear it. Because the boy was pulling her back in, the heavy rings on his fingers tangling in her hair as he angled her head in just the right way to slip his tongue past her teeth. Chrissy moaned, her body going fully molten in his hands as he drew her in and drank her down, sip by sip by sip.
Far, far too soon, he was gently easing himself from her embrace again. Eyes on her for a long moment before darting away ever so briefly to scan the room.
"Pretty sure he's gone," the boy murmured, his lips nearly close enough that she could feel every syllable. Or maybe it was just the vibration of him, the way he'd somehow, miraculously, already tuned her boy to feel it. "Christ, toots. That fucker an ex of yours, I'm assuming?"
"Unfortunately," she sighed, forcing her fingers to untangle where they'd come to rest on the nape of his neck and slide down his chest. She gently smoothed out the lapels of his jacket. "For, like, months now, but he doesn't seem to take the hint."
"Oh, I think the hint was definitely taken this time, sweetness," the boy smiled, his thumb tucking beneath her chin for a brief moment. "And if not, I mean. I'm always open for a round two, y'know?"
"Yeah?" she asked. "You gonna be in every dingy basement of the party I happen to attend every four-to-six months?"
"Maybe," he shrugged, his eyes glinting with that same unnamed mischief. "Wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. These assholes are paying for my college education, after all."
"And if, um," she began, her hands curling around his shoulders. "If I said I wanted round two... despite an audience." Dropping her head, Chrissy looked at him from under her lashes. Attempting to appear as coquettish as possible. "Or, maybe, regardless of an audience?"
The curl of his grin was echoed in her stomach, her insides twisting and morphing until they were the exact same shape as his teeth.
He was going to eat her alive, and the only thing she'd be able to say at the end was thank you.
"Yeah?" he asked. "You, uh, thinking now, or you thinking four-to-six months from now?"
"We can start with now," she shrugged, "and see where we're at in four-to-six months."
The boy threw his head back, letting out a long, loud cackle that had Chrissy clinging to him through her own laughter.
"Eddie, by the way," he said, sticking his hand in the scant space between their torsos. Sporting a wide, feral grin that made Chrissy forget all about her discomfort of the night.
Curling her fingers around his, Chrissy shook his hand.
"Chrissy," she introduced herself.
"Chrissy," he repeated, and she was fascinated by the way his tongue curled around her name. The way his lips parted on the second syllable, accentuating the second 's' in a way no one ever had. "Gorgeous."
"I bet you say that to all the girls that fall into your lap and beg you to kiss them to chase away their exes."
"Only the especially gorgeous ones," he shot back easily. "Hey, uh, not to be, like, too forward, but can I kiss you again?"
Her smile tasted sweet on her own lips. She wondered if Eddie would say it tasted the same.
"Not too forward," she soothed. "You can, um. You can kiss me anytime you want, Eddie."
"Shit, baby, don't threaten me with a good time."

SONG TWENTY-ONE: IS IT OVER NOW? | T.D
Pairing: Ex!Tim Drake X Fem!Reader Summary: Tim finally gets caught. Word Count: 2.6k
It was a hard breakup. She couldn’t deny that, even if she wanted to.
Their breakup was like the worst plane turbulence. It was bound to happen sooner or later. She just hoped they could ride it out, but after too many mishaps, it was like cutting the ribbon on a finished building. Relief rolled off her in waves. Her shoulders were no longer to her ears.
When she passed the newsstand every morning, she saw the rumors in the headlines. They were misleading and slacking in detail.
“Tim Drake-Wayne seen with a new girl in a coffee shop?”
“The Drake-Wayne betrays his girlfriend!”
“Drake-Wayne, new playboy prince?”
She couldn’t help but scoff. The girls looked exactly like her. It was depressing to get the call from one of Tim’s brothers. Y/n could remember seeing Jason’s contact name on her phone late at night. Her papers were scattered on the island in the kitchen. The knot in her neck tightened. She reached for the phone vibrating and clicked the green button. Jason’s voice echoed in the familiar empty apartment.
“Y/n?”
“What’s up, Jay?”
She flicked her pen back and forth. It wasn’t entirely unusual for Jason to call. However, it was usually Dick or Stephanie who called the most. Jason sighed, “You’re not gonna like this.”
“I’d like it more if you cut to the chase,” She retorted, “I have a shit ton of work to do and would like to get at least half of it done.”
“Tim’s cheating on you.”
The pen slammed on the countertop. The paperwork blurred in front of her. Suddenly, she seemed to have tunnel vision. Her mind had stopped working. She forced words from her mouth, “Excuse me?”
“He’s in a coffee shop.”
“Are you sure it isn’t Tam?”
“I can assure you it isn’t.” Jason sounded upset, “I was just passing by and saw him inside. I almost went inside to say hi until I saw a girl who looked almost exactly like you kissing him. I genuinely thought it was you at first until I noticed her hair was off, and it wasn’t your bag at the table.”
She bit her lip, “Thank you for telling me, Jay.”
“This- This isn’t-“ He stuttered, “This won’t be the last time I talk to you, right? Are you going to cut contact with the family because of this? Dick might flip. Stephanie will literally bother you till you block her, which might break her heart, and I-“
“Jason, relax,” Y/n interjected, “I’m not going anywhere right now. But I’m gonna need to get my things out of this apartment. Maybe stop by while he’s on his date and help me?”
“Of course.”
That was one week ago. She was living with Jason in the best safe house he had. It honestly wasn’t all that bad. It was clean, had some decorations, and he kept groceries stocked. Jason had been a wonderful roommate. He cooked and made sure she was okay. Y/n had appreciated it. However, the press got other ideas. Rumors began about her leaving Tim for his elder brother.
She didn’t have time to address every rumor. Truth be told, she didn’t really care either. It was another night of late work. This time, her work spread on top of the birch coffee table and sitting crisscrossed on the rug. A mug of hot chocolate Jason had made about half an hour ago was placed on a coaster, still warm.
He didn’t sit far. His place was in an armchair with a book in his hands. The company was pleasant and soothing. Jason didn’t talk. All she heard occasionally was the slick of a page-turning. Sometimes, he’d steal a highlighter or a pen and gently place them back on the table. However, it wasn’t bad until a knock echoed in the apartment.
She heard Jason sigh and place his book face down on the coffee table. His socked feet drifted across the wooden floor. The door opened, and she could see the legs of the figure through Jason’s. It didn’t take long for her to put together who was outside the door, “What do you want?”
“I need some help with a case.”
“You couldn’t have called?” Jason asked, “I’m a little busy.”
Tim sighed, “Look, I’ll owe you one, okay?”
“I can’t, Tim.” Jason sounded exhausted, “I’m sorry.”
“Why not?” Tim scoffed, “Too busy fucking my ex-girlfriend?”
Y/n jumped from where she was sitting, “Oh, you absolute piece of shit.”
Jason slowly moved away from the door, and Tim stepped in without permission. The door slammed behind him, “Oh, I’m the piece of shit now? How fucking ironic is that.”
“Yes, you are!” She screamed, “You’re a fucking cheater! Please don’t deny it either! You’re just pissed off this was the time I decided to call it off. Don’t act like I didn’t find lipsticks and underwear around the apartment when I went on business trips.”
“At least I’m not fucking the next family member in line!”
She narrowed her eyes, “That’s all you have for your defense, don’t you? Cause you know damn well I didn’t cheat, so all you have for ammunition is those fucking rumors. Do you honestly think I’d do that to you?”
“What am I supposed to think!” He replied, “I came to the apartment, and all your shit was gone one day with a note and a key saying we were over.”
“Oh, for fucks sake,” Y/n murmured, “Your face is plastered everywhere with a girl that looks just like me. A girl your family fucking hates for her attitude. A girl who isn’t even successful! Maybe, just maybe, instead of finding a clone for me, you should’ve just kept me instead.”
“Now get the fuck out.”
“But I-“
“Timothy, get the fuck out of this apartment building.”
She could see the fire in his eyes. He picked up the cross-body bag and pulled open the door. It slammed again, announcing his departure. Y/n walked back to her spot on the floor and sat down again. She grabbed the mug and downed the rest of the liquid. It felt warm against her raw throat from screaming. She saw Jason sitting in the armchair from the corner of her eye.
“He cheated on you multiple times?”
Her grip on the pen increased, “Yes, I tried to keep everything under wraps. But the press finds out, and rumors go out. I denied them every time.”
“Why didn’t you-“
“Dick. Damian. Stephanie. Cass. You.” Y/n clicked the pen back in, “You guys are everything. Movie nights with Dick. Drawing with Damian. Gossip sessions with Steph. Teaching Cass bigger words every day. Talking about books with you. It keeps me afloat. I’m not a vigilante, but I have a stressful job and a shitty life. I wasn’t about to lose the one good thing I had.”
“What about Bruce?”
She let out a small laugh, “Bruce always treated me like a daughter. He was always so happy to see Tim smiling again. And I knew that I couldn’t ruin that for him. Bruce had seen Tim suffer too much, and I didn’t want to be the reason Bruce had to see Tim falter again. He supported me. Nobody knows this, but he paid off all my student loans for one year on Christmas. I didn’t even ask him. He just did it as a thank you.
“Even though I knew Tim’s smile was no longer because of me, I couldn’t stand to see Bruce look at Tim with that longing look anymore. Every time Bruce mentioned marriage, I would see Tim’s smile drop and be replaced. It hurt. But it helped Bruce see a future for his son besides working his whole life.”
“You went through all that suffering for us?”
“And I’d do it again.”
He didn’t talk much after that. She was grateful. The papers in front of her distracted her enough. It was a blur of words and bright-colored highlighting. It felt like seconds before Jason stood again and grabbed the mug from the table. She heard his feet dash away, and her highlighter swung in her fingertips. The sink ran in the background and shut off with a squeak. Jason came back around the table and began collecting the papers into piles.
“Jay, what are you doing?”
“It’s almost one in the morning. You’re working with Dick in the gym tomorrow, remember?” He replied, taking the highlighter from her hand, “He wants you there at six.”
She sighed, “Fine, fine.”
Sleep came easily. As soon as she had hit the bed, sleep came over her. It was early in the morning when she heard clinking in the kitchen. Y/n swept her feet onto the floor and opened the bedroom door to smell the sweet scent of coffee brewing. Jason was in the kitchen in the same shirt and sweatpants. His curls were touseled, “Mornin.”
“Good morning,” Jason said with a soft smile. There’s coffee in the pot for you.”
“Thanks.” She reached for a mug and filled it with the smooth coffee.
It was five in the morning. The sun was barely rising through the windows in Jason’s safe house. She watched him make breakfast while she stewed over the cup of coffee in her hands. It was five-fifteen when she went into her room to get dressed. She left the safe house at five-thirty with her keys, coffee in a thermos, and phone in her hand. The car unlocked with a click. The coffee was in the cupholder, the seatbelt clicked in, and the phone connected to the radio. Music played the entire way to the gymnastics gym.
Y/n shifted the car into gear once she parked in the parking lot. The car door hadn’t even been locked when she heard the clicking of a camera lens. She sighed before turning to see a man not too far away with a camera. He was snapping pictures of her in front of the gym where the notorious Dick Grayson worked. She could practically read the headlines now.
Regardless, she went into the gym to see Dick smiling brightly. He wore a white tank top, black pants, and old sneakers. His hair looked a complete mess. He sat on top of the receptionist counter, feet swinging back and forth, a cup of cereal in his hand, “Hey! How are you?”
“I’m good,” Y/n said, “How’re you doing?”
“Doing great!” Dick smiled, “You sure you up for today? I know you probably have some casework to do for Bruce and whatever evidence analysis you have to do for the GCPD.”
“Yeah,” She swayed the coffee in the thermos, “I should be fine. Plus, gotta spend time with my favorite Wayne.”
Dick snorted, “Shhhh, don’t let people hear you, they might start thinking when they aren’t used to it.”
“You’ve seen the headlines then, I suppose?”
“Of course, they’re all liars, of course.” Dick waved his hand, “You and Tim wouldn’t ever cheat on each other.”
Her keys fell to the floor. Dick perked up, “You okay?”
“Oh,” She swallowed and grabbed her keys from the floor, “Dick, Tim and I broke up.”
“What?”
“I thought Jason would’ve told everyone,” Y/n muttered, “The stories of Tim cheating aren’t fake. They are very much real. I’ve been rooming with Jason in his safe house.”
Dick jumped off the counter and put his cereal on the desk. His arms wrapped around her body tightly, “If I would’ve known you could’ve stayed with me, or I would’ve had a movie night.”
She smiled. Dick’s cologne surrounded her like a weighted blanket, “It’s okay, Dick. I thought Jason told everyone."
“Would you like me to make a statement in the family group chat?” Dick pulled back to look at her eyes, “I will if it’s easier for you.”
“Yes, please.”
It didn’t take long for the word to get out after that. She had her phone in the gym locker with all the other belongings. It was nice to leave the safe house and get away from work to teach the kids with Dick. It made her feel refreshed. To finally get her mind off of something and embrace something completely new. The kids absolutely loved her. She visited the gym once a week to say hi and help Dick out after rough nights on patrol.
She was covered in chalk when the day ended, and the kids were gone. Dick threw her a towel for the sweat. Y/n put it around her neck, “Jason said Tim’s been doing this for a while.”
“Yeah,” Y/n sighed, “Not something I went out advertising. Especially with the press.”
“I’m sorry he did it.” Dick said, rubbing his hands on his shorts, “I know I have no reason to be sorry. A part of me feels responsible. I practically raised him and feel like I raised him better than this.”
“It’s not your fault, Dick.”
He blew a raspberry, “I just hope this doesn’t mean we’re never gonna see you again.”
“I’ve been around for years,” She drawled, “I’m not going anywhere. You guys are the only family I have. If Tim doesn’t like it, too bad.”
“That’s my girl.” Dick smiled and ruffled her hair.
She smiled and walked back to the locker room. The towel around her neck was used to wipe sweat drips from her forehead. She twisted the lock, and it popped open. Her hand reached for her phone, which was unlocked by the facial recognition software. Her messages were blown up with texts from the Wayne family about the breakup. The replies came quickly, telling them it wasn’t their fault and she’d still be around.
Once she replied to the messages, she grabbed her belongings and left the gym. The car ride to Jason’s safe house was smooth, and light music played in the background. Thankfully, no cameras were flashing or clicking when she left the gym. The safe house was an old abandoned apartment waiting to be gentrified in the neighborhood. Her car was parked behind the building, safely hidden away.
The door clicked open with her key, and it closed behind her. Y/n washed her coffee tumbler and put her keys on the island. A morning’s worth of sweat and grim on her skin, she stepped into the shower and thoroughly cleaned herself. The bathroom was steamy when the water turned off. She wrapped a towel around herself and combed through her hair. She grabbed an old hoodie and a pair of pants. They slid on easily enough. Her eyes caught sight of her desk. Her hands gripped two of the folders along with her pencil pouch.
She pulled the bar stool out with her foot and placed her belongings on the island. Her body relaxed as her eyes scanned the forensic reports from the latest crimes in Gotham.
It took two months for her to find her own place finally. She still had her days with the Waynes when Tim was working or away. Jason had indeed been her rock throughout it all. He provided her with a place to stay and a friend in the darkest times. Dick had provided her with the best coffee and crimes for her to investigate. She spent a lot of her time in the lab at the GCPD. Sometimes, he even brought Damian to keep her company while he sketched away in his notebook.
Bruce had set down the last box in her brand-new apartment. It wasn’t extravagant. He offered to buy her a new apartment, but she declined. She wanted to start anew by herself. Y/n needed to know that she could do it. That she could move on from Tim. They had been dating for five years. She couldn’t precisely place when the cheating began. Her estimate came to somewhere after three years of them being together. She had her hands on her hips as her eyes gazed around her new apartment.
A smile came to her face, “I’m so glad it’s over now.”

I love venturing into Bvddie territory and finding people who think Tommy sleeping on the couch next to Buck (slept in the armchair) in case he needs anything and then making him breakfast is proof they’re “one fight away from the breakup” like… try again girlie the bias glasses are fogging your vision.
