I find "gaster isnt evil" theories very silly as i feel like they often try to make him out to be genuinely ALWAYS trying to help, when that goes in the face of one of his only defining traits- being shattered. nobody is purely good of evil, of course, and if someone is shattered, different shards may have more pure intentions, other not so much! like the v-day letter, that seems like it could be a more goofy, slightly off-putting but well meaning grandpa shard of him, i mean it has many of the hallmarks of gaster, the suddenly appearing and disappearing strange inflection, all caps, very very very rare chance of appearing, just not all the personality (as if we KNOW what his personality even truly is in the first place in full lol)

Bottom line, we barely know anything about him concretely, that includes his intentions and motives and nature.

I could be wrong, but if theory crafting has showed me anything, its that toby seems to be setting up in DR for gaster to fill a similar role as flowey did in UT, and if theres anything i know about flowey, its that he is manipulative and not always to be trusted at face value.

This is just how i see it tho. gaster has ROTTEN vibes and im so excited to see what this could even play out as. i keep thinking about him as. also dont get me wrong i dont think he cant do "good" things in case you needed to hear it from me, i just think he's also capable of doing very very very "bad" things too. fuck, maybe he even thinks he's helping, but in reality is only hurting the situation, or whatever the fuck i dont know what he's doing all i know is that he might be gay but i didnt come up with that, i just think its neAT,, and i have evidence

was going insane on discord but got told i should post. anyway lancer’s behavior throughout pivotal moments in chapter 1 suggests that he has a hero complex. for a consistent period of time, he has felt responsible for other people’s safety and wellbeing. this is why he masks his problems by being affable and friendly rather than expressing anger. this is also why he immediately creates a contingency plan to protect his friends and his father that involves *himself* getting hurt instead. his solution to conflict is “if i get hurt, nobody else has to”

Made a comment on the upload of sound test penumbral phantasm on YouTube with my personal thoughts on its relevance to deltarune. im gonna put the whole thing here as well for archival purposes since yt comments are... Finicky. Link to penumbral phantasm video is in the read-more.

The gaster motif is pretty much in this song actually. Its just 8 semitones lower and with slightly different rhythm, right at 1:33, its D, Dflat, D, A.

Gasters theme is A, Asharp, F, Asharp.

If you play it like Asharp, A, Asharp, F, the resemblance is especially poignant.

It should also be noted that the verse its used in from 1:30 to 1:36 roughly is also What "THE HOLY" from deltarune seems to be motif-ing.

Alternatively but just as important, the main ever repeating motif of penumbral phantasm at the very start of D, Dflat, E, Dflat-Dflat, D, is already incredibly close to gasters theme. its still 8 semi tones down from gasters, and is made up of only 3 tones in a specific pattern over and over again.

If theres anything to take from penumbral phantasm, i think it should at least be that its a neat look into an early version of gasters motif.

At the MOST, you should take away that we could finally get penumbral phantasm for real this time/j

Hey, remember the car honk motifs that were hidden in the ambient track during ch 2's traffic jam? That was caused by annoying dog Toby fox who previously foreshadowed the location of chapter 2's dark world in chapter 1?

Yknow, "your best friend", "spear of justice", and "metal crusher"? Just. Right There? Casually? I think that might be more foreshadowing, it's kinda crazy how this seems to have slipped under everyone's noses

Also, those colors match up with the soul colors (except bravery, I don't know what bravery's deal is?). White is for monster souls, and I feel black souls, while we haven't seen them (yet), could be soulless beings, like flowey, and maybe gaster?

i just dont think its a coincidence that it's these three specifically, with their colours corresponding to cmyk.
