Cozinha Solidária da Azenha is very reliable, they've been providing free meals in Porto Alegre for a few years, and they're delivering meals to people displaced by the floods here in southern Brazil.
If you can donate, give preference to NGOs and social movements, and avoid government links.
If you're unsure a fundraising campaign is reliable, you can DM me.

In Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, a social center run by anarchists is acting as the hub for mutual aid in the city and they need our help. To quote from them:
"Historic flooding has hit the south of so-called Brazil.
Fueled by the effects of runaway climate change and exacerbated by government inaction and incompetence, these floods have submerged entire cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and many neighborhoods of its capital, Porto Alegre. They have wiped away entire communities, and killed dozens of people.
The anarchist social center in Porto Alegre, Esp(a)ço, has been set up as a hub to receive donations of supplies, and to get them to those in need. They need our help.
Please make a donation to help cover the costs of emergency supplies and materials to rebuild shattered communities. Any amount helps!
All funds raised will go towards local mutual aid efforts, to support affected Indigenous and quilombo communities, and to repair anarchist spaces impacted by the floods."
Here is their verified donation link:

The unprecedented flood in the Brazil state of Rio Grande do Sul has hit the international news some days ago.  This tragedy has impacted 420 cities, with 20.000 people in shelters, over 330.000 people displaced, nearly 2 million people affected, not to mention the death and missing people tolls.  Infrastructure and logistics are also heavily affected, with roads and brigdes gone. Some cities are stranded with their access cut off.  Dozens of thousands of people lost everything but their lives.  The Brazilian people of Rio Grande do Sul could really count on the help of the amazing global TTRPG community.  Below are some links for your reference: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0w03627kq4ohttps://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/02/world/americas/brazil-rain-floods.html?smid=url-share The funds of this bundle will be used to help flood victims who lost everything. There are several local donation campaigns going on, from the Government to private organizations. Specifically for this charity, the funds will go to ACNUR: https://doar.acnur.org/page/ACNURBR/doe/enchentes-no-sul-do-brasil

If anyone would like to see the work GRAD is doing to help the animals you can take a look at their Instagram where they're posting updates on the regular. They're taking them out the danger areas but also feeding, housing, vaccinating and chipping them when possible. 🤍

did you hear about what's happening in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil?
please bear with me for a minute, I'm Brazilian and would like to tell you and ask you for help
Tumblr media
this ☝🏻 is a gas station completely submerged
Tumblr media
this ☝🏻 is the biggest airport in the state, located in the capital city of Porto Alegre
Tumblr media
and ☝🏻 this is the main scenario in 80% of the state, which means there are more than 300 cities underwater. and the rain isn't likely to stop in the upcoming days.
this is the worst flood ever in the whole country. EVER. and let me tell you, we've had a lot of them in several states all this decade long. and they're getting worse.
it's May, it's autumn, it should be getting gradually colder and we definitely shouldn't be expecting much of a rain for many months to come. yet it's hot as hell (30°C or higher) and it keeps raining in the South region.
in the last few years we've had a couple freezing days, but (despite of El Niño) there hasn't been a proper winter anywhere in this country for a long time. it's getting scary because the seasons seem to be fading away, the weather doesn't show a pattern as we're used to.
many rivers reached the higher level in history: more than 5m. roads are underwater and/or destroyed by the force of the water. there is no food, power, shelter, clean water. even if you got a lot of money, there is none of it to buy! expectations are bodies won't be found at least in the next 10 days, because the water levels won't get lower than 4m before that.
I live in São Paulo and I can tell you that all the country is sending help, whether it is money, mineral water, clothes, medicine, cleaning and hygiene items. infectious diseases due to contaminated water exposure should spread in the upcoming weeks. lost children and pets are being rescued nonstop. people are scared, starving and desperate because they lost everything, sometimes family included.
if you live outside Brazil, it doesn't matter whether you're from or how much you can give away, please consider donating to Brazil Foundation. it is a verified and trusted organization raising funds worldwide to help the state. even if it's 1 single dollar, please don't think it won't be helpful because it very much will.

hey if any of you are wondering; I'm safe.
The deadly floods happening in Brazil are mostly limited to the southern part of the country. I live in the far northeastern coast and the country is massive so I'm perfectly safe.
However, I do encourage you guys to donate money or material goods if possible. Thousands of people are being affected by the floods and will appreciate the support depending on their situation.
(for any other brazilians better informed in this than I am; please let me know if I should add anything to the post, like donation links and such)

Please helpif you can 🙏🙏🙏
everyone please read this and share if you can.
Brazil is going through one of the worst climatic crisis ever seen.
i live in the southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul. we have been suffering from extreme, nonstop rainstorms for a week now. the rivers are flooding, reaching 4-6 meters above their natural level. people are being rescued by helicopters, neighborhoods are being evacuated. entire cities are slowly but surely becoming submerged in water. 60 people missing and counting. 32 deaths and counting.
and this is not new. last november also had a flood like this one. 50 dead, many material losses. it happened again this january, with thousands being left without power or water for days.
three catastrophical disasters within less than a year. three disasters only a few months apart.
this is not natural.
unsustainable agricultural practices and politics led to this. a complete disregard for nature led to this. greed led to this. always greed.
when it comes to the climate crisis, i cannot stress this enough: we need to act now if we still want to live. disasters like this are going to happen more often and they're going to be much, much worse. this flood is being considered the worst climatic catastrophe in the history of my state. i don't know how long it will take for another bigger one to happen and take its place. i just know it will be sooner than it should.

In southern Brazil, especially the state of Rio Grande do Sul, severe flooding has caused an emergency being reported around the world. Human losses and homelessness there represent the biggest socioenvironmental catastrophe affecting the country.
One aspect that hasn’t yet garnered much media attention is the impact of these floods on rare and at-risk wildlife. For 11 years I worked on Marinheiros Island, situated on the estuary of Patos Lagoon in the heart of the now-flooded areas. On this island I identified the presence of three species of small vertebrates threatened with extinction, whose populations there are of great conservation importance.
Tumblr media
Even before the current crisis, over the past few years, Marinheiros has experienced harsh flooding associated with massive rainfall. The floods are even more intense during El Niño phenomena, which produce heavy rain in southern Brazil. Three main factors there, together, result in the rapid rise of estuarine water levels and consequent flooding of the lagoon’s islands and marginal mainland:
The low elevations of marginal areas.
Heavy rains that increase the flow of rivers into the Patos Lagoon system and the subsequent discharge of water in the choked estuary.
Wind directions against the water flow from the estuary to the Atlantic Ocean, acting as a barrier for water discharging into the ocean.
The year 2023 saw a severe flood in Marinheiros Island and the marginal mainland of the Patos Lagoon estuary. This year has been even more calamitous. Flooding of 70% of the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul — which includes the whole extension of the Patos Lagoon marginal zone — has, as of this writing, caused 149 people to lose their lives and forced more than 615,000 to leave their homes. Many of the more than 1,100 inhabitants of Marinheiros Island were rescued and sent to temporary shelters.
...
Floods, Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise, and Loss of Habitats
Marinheiros Island is located in a low-elevation region. The estuarine glass snake and greater guinea pig are found in wet fields of the island’s marginal zone, where elevation does not exceed three meters (10 feet) above sea level. The red-bellied toad occurs in the marginal zone, in addition to more interior sandy fields and dunes, where elevations can reach about 10 meters (33 feet).
While the current rain-related floods are expected — and desired — to be a short-term condition, rising sea levels could cause the island to be permanently submerged. A study conducted in 2010 found that the entire marginal zone of Marinheiros Island — the area where these three species live — is highly susceptible to sea-level rise. This suggests that the ecosystems inhabited by these three small vertebrate species may be completely underwater in the next few decades.
The impacts of short-term floods on the red-bellied toad, estuarine glass snake and greater guinea pig remain unknown. These events induce disturbances to the species’ habitats, causing the loss of shelters and nesting sites and forcing individuals to migrate to more elevated island areas. In the tragic scenario of the sinking of the marginal lands, the species’ populations will indeed be forced to move to higher grounds.
