Steve’s tires squealed as he pulled into the parking lot of the bar, the way he had raced back to Hawkins from Indianapolis he was surprised he hadn’t been pulled over for speeding. Leaving his car quickly he ran through the parking lot, up the porch, and into the bar the door slamming closed behind him. “We have a problem.”
“Yeah, no shit.” Gareth muttered as he looked towards the mens restroom where the sound of someone getting sick was muffled behind the door. “Eddie finally drank himself into a puke fest.”
“Fuck..” Steve said, pushing his hand through his hair. “Hopefully that’ll help me sober up faster. I need him to be conscious for what I have to tell him.”
“I already started on coffee and I currently have a sandwich waiting for him.” Jeff said as he leaned on the bar looking over at Steve.
From her perch at the bar Lizzy looked up at Steve, concern on her pretty features. She had missed seeing you around the bar. And knowing that Eddie was so sad and there was nothing she could do to make him feel better just made her feel terrible. “Did you see Y/N?”
“Yeah.” He nodded as he walked farther into the room. “It’s more complicated than I thought. Much more.”
“What happened?” Robin asked as she hopped up onto the bar sitting on the counter.
“We sho-” Steve was about to say they should wait until Eddie comes out and sobers up before he explains but the man in question interrupts that by stumbling out of the bathroom slowly. “Damn. You look like shit.”
Gareth’s wife Andrea came out after him. She was a nurse at Hawkins Memorial and out of everyone in the building currently she was the only one who didn’t get squeamish when vomit was involved. “Okay big guy, let's get you into a seat before you fall over. Again.”
Eddie looked up bleary eyed at Steve, his guitar calloused finger coming up to point at him. “You. I heard from someone that you wanted to fight me in unarmed combat.” Looking down at his arms he shook them out a moment before looking back up at Steve. “But you'll have to give me a few minutes. I'm still trying to figure out how to take my arms off.”
Andrea sighed as she hoisted him up the best she could with her nurse's strength and helped him to stumble towards the bar to take a seat on the stool. “Jeff, please tell me you have that sandwich.”
“Right here.” He said moving into the kitchen to grab the plate and was back out in seconds. He placed the plate down right as Eddie was plopped onto the stool.
Wide eyed Steve looked over at everyone else. “When I left he was still drinking beer. What happened?!”
“He finished the beer.” Brandon said before jabbing his thumb behind him towards the back wall filled with liquor bottles. “Then he started on literally everything else.”
“Jesus fucking Christ.” Steve muttered as he wiped a hand down his face. Walking closer to the bar he looked at everyone. “We don’t have time for this.”
“How was she?” Robin asked quietly, her fingers fiddling with a loose string on the knee of her jeans. Was she mad at you? Yes. You hurt one of her friends that was a deal breaker in her book. But did she still care about you? Also yes.
“Not great.” Steve sighed, hands now planted firmly on his hips. Looking down at Eddie he waited until the man started to eat, slowly and messily, but the bread would help soak up the booze. “She’s being blackmailed into marrying someone.”
It was quiet for a moment as everyone, except Eddie who couldn’t focus on anything right now, took a beat to let the information sink in before they all started talking over each other. “What?!”
“Isn’t that illegal?!”
“Do we need to go get her?!”
“Who do I have to kill?!”
“Guys!” Steve shouted over them trying to get them to calm down. “I know. Okay. I know. I tried to get her to come with me but she couldn't. Her dad has dirt on Eddie that would ruin him and the band. She’s doing this to protect him.”
“I don’t need protection!” Eddie slurred as he looked up at Steve, his eyes bloodshot and glassy.
“We know that.” Gareth said, patting him on his back as Andrea put a cup of water in front of Eddie.
“What you need is to eat, drink this water, have a cup of coffee, and take a nap.” The nurse said as gave Eddie a stern look.
That look made him shrink back a little, he felt small, like he did when he was still a submissive under Dan. Andrea could be a Domme, if she really wanted too. He would pay good money to see her flog someone. With a little nod Eddie continued with his sandwich.
Gareth turned to look at Steve. “So what happens now? With Y/N?”
Steve shrugged. “I was hoping that Eddie was sober enough to call his lawyer and figure that part out because if we don’t... Y/N gets married off against her will and shipped to Chicago.”
“We can call him!” Lizzy said as she practically laid on the counter to dig into Jeff's pocket for his phone. Holding it up for him he smiled a bit at her as he took it. Clicking through the contacts until he found the one he wanted, Jeff put the little Nokia against his ear. A few seconds later Jeff shook his head and ended the call.
“Straight to voicemail. We'll have to try later.”
A collective of muttered cuss words sailed through the air as they all sat quietly trying to think of something, anything, that could help you.
You felt like the world was caving in on you the closer it got to the party. With every minute that passed it felt harder and harder to breathe and you had to stop and focus on what you were doing. With shaking hands you pushed the pretty earring into the lobe of your ear before you took a step back and straightened the skirt of your ivory dress as you gazed at yourself in the mirror. You looked… Decent. Not as much of a blushing bride as your father would have liked but this was all the effort you were willing to put into this.
Moving away from the mirror you walked to your closet to grab the heel that would look nice with this dress and leaned against the door jam as you slipped them on your feet. Taking a breath you glanced at the watch on your wrist before you headed to your bed, you had a few moments before you had to be downstairs and in the car. Taking a seat you closed your eyes and counted to ten. You could do this. You could play the part and keep Eddie safe until Steve was able to figure out a way to fix this.
Or you could stop being a fucking coward and call Daniel Christianson yourself. Slowly your eyes moved from your lap and over towards the phone that sat on your nightstand. You could do it. Everyone was getting ready. No where near a phone. “Come on.” You hissed to yourself. “Just do it or you’re stuck with Malloy forever.”
With a trembling hand you carefully lifted the receiver off the base and held it to your ear as you held your breath. When all you heard was a dial tone you almost cried right then. Quickly you dialed the numbers that you now knew by heart and put the phone against your ear listening to it ring. Your heart was pounding. “Please pick up.”
“Are you going to say hello this time?” Daniel Christianson's deep voice broke through the speaker and you gasped.
“H-how did you know it was me?”
“I have caller ID. It’s good with numbers.” He chuckled a bit. “May I ask who this is?”
Tears pricked your eyes as you looked up at the ceiling, trying not to ruin your makeup. “My… my name is Y/N. Um… Eddie… Eddie Munson… gave me your number a while back. He said you could help if I was in trouble.”
You heard his move a little, the squeaking of a chair clear over the line. “Are you okay?”
“I need your help.” You choked out, your throat feeling tighter by the second. You heard the doorbell ring. Time was up. “I don’t have time to explain.”
“Y/N! We’re leaving!” Your father called from downstairs.
“Shit, I have to go.” You gasped out.
“Y/N, don’t hang up.” Dan said, he sounded worried. “Tell me what's wrong.”
Clearing your throat you tried to get a hold of yourself. “Uh... The bar. Hellfire. If you go to Hellfire and ask for Steve Harrington he can tell you everything.”
“Hellfire. Steve Harrington.” He repeated. “Okay. Okay. I’ll talk to him, then I'll be in touch.”
“You can’t call this number.” You rushed out. “Talk to Steve. He’ll get the information to me.”
“Okay… You stay safe.”
“I will.”
“Y/N!” Your father yelled again.
“I have to go. I’m sorry.” You said quickly before you hung up the phone as your father walked into your room.
“We’re waiting on you.” He said as he looked at his watch.
“I’m coming.” You muttered as you stood up and grabbed your tiny clutch from the bed before you followed him out of your room. With one last glance at the phone you close the door.
Eddie groaned as he came too, his head was pounding, his mouth was dry, and he still felt slightly drunk. He had over done it on the tequila. Sitting up he winced at pulsing in his brain before he looked up over the back of the couch to see who was still around. The bar was practically empty save for his friends. The lights weren't dim and the music was off. Ugh thank god..
“Well look who decided to enter the land of the living.” Jeff said from his spot at the bar. Everyone looked over as Eddie slowly stood up on his feet and started for them.
“How long was I out?”
“Long enough.” Steve said from his spot leaning on the bar. “I hope you don't mind but since you were passed out and we're kinda in emergency mode we closed the bar for the night.”
“Emergency mode?” Eddie asked as he stumbled forward. “What happened?”
“Eddie Bear,” Lizzy said as she got off her stool and walked to him. Taking his hand she led him to a stool and sat him down. “You should sit down for this.”
“What's wrong?” Eddie asked, his worry was finally starting to sober him up completely. “What happened?”
“Y/N’s dad is using you to blackmail her into marrying Peter Malloy.” Steve said, looking down at his friend.
Eddie blinked for a moment, his brows going up to his under his bangs as he stared at Steve. “I'm sorry… what?”
“She's being blackmailed.” Robin repeated as panic started to settle in her chest. “We don’t know what to do… All of this sounds insanely illegal and she’s all alone up there. Her dad went through your shit… is he going to go through our shit?! Steve, what if he somehow finds out about that science test I cheated on in high school?!”
“He won’t. He wasn’t looking for that.” Steve said, waving her off.
“Also, like we don’t know this guy! What if he hurts her?! She’s told us he sucks, we met him at the funeral and we know he sucks, and now she has to marry him?! She’s going to be stuck fore-”
“Robs,” Steve said, putting his hand on her shoulder. “Breathe.”
“What do you mean he went through my shit?” Eddie questioned as he looked up at Steve. When the boy took a little too long to answer, the metalhead was on his feet with his hands on Steve’s shoulders. “What shit?”
Sighing, Steve looked at Eddie. “You need to call your lawyer. He found your criminal record and went through your financials. He’s threatening to release those to the public if Y/N doesn’t do what he wants.”
“...Fuck.” Eddie said, putting his hands over his face before he nodded a bit, trying to get control of his emotions. Pushing his hand in his pocket he pulled out his phone and started to shift through the contacts. “Okay… okay.”
“I have a question for you.” Steve said as he looked at Eddie. Might as well get this over with. “And I need you to answer me honestly.”
“What?”
“Why didn’t you tell us you had a kid?” Steve asked quietly.
Eddie looked up at him forgetting his phone for a moment, his brows coming together in the middle in clear confusion. “Cause I don’t.”
Though the door to the bar opened no one looked up, still too interested in what Steve had just asked Eddie to pay attention to the front door. The confusion based staring contest was getting heated at this point in time. Brandon’s voice called out to the person. “Sorry we’re closed tonight.”
“Perfect. Now I can talk to you without my eardrums bursting.”
“Dan?” Eddie’s head snapped over to look with wide eyes at the sound of the familiar deep voice. “I was just about to call you.”
“No need, I’m here.” The older man said as he walked towards the group. He was a tall man, taller than Eddie at least, close to six foot if anyone had to guess. Probably in his late forties to early fifties if his graying hair was any indication, and he was a wall of muscles. Completely fit and incredibly intimidating.
Eddie shoved his phone into his pocket and walked over towards his old dom. It had been a few months since he was able to see him in person and when Dan opened his arms he went straight in for a hug. His arms were a comforting safe place. Everything Eddie needed right now. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“I had to come,” Dan said as he let Eddie go to look at him with a little smile. “A very nervous young lady called and told me to come and speak with her cousin. Steve.”
“Y/N called you?” The younger man asked, looking up at Dan. His heart was pounding in his chest, he remembered telling you to call Dan if you needed help and he couldn’t get to you.
“She did.” He nodded and looked around at the group by the bar. He recognized all the boys from the band and their girls but there was one boy and girl he hadn’t met yet. Pointing at the new boy he narrowed his eyes a bit. “Are you Steve Harrington?”
“Uh, yeah.” Steve nodded his head and moved towards him with his hand out. “That’s me.”
“Pleasure to meet you.” Dan said, shaking his hand. “Now tell me everything.”
The ballroom of the Conrad was beautiful. A tall decorated ceiling with chandeliers, cream walls with wood and gold details, the red and gold carpeted floor brought in a splash of color that was needed to keep the room from looking monochromatic. Tables were scattered around the room with golden chairs, the buffet table sat against the back walls holding all kinds of food and desserts. Waiters wandered around the room offering drinks. Everything was beautiful, but unfortunately, completely overwhelming. It was too bright, too loud, there were too many people, and you barely knew a handful of them. Steve’s parents were here but not Steve, your father and stepmother, and the Malloy's of course. No one was here for you. Not really.
You were polite, you smiled, thanked everyone for coming, and chatted like you always would at your fathers parties. On the outside you looked happy but inside you felt like you were drowning. You kept trying to swim up but no matter how far you got or how hard you kicked you kept getting pulled back down into the depths.
You took a deep breath as you downed your fourth glass of champagne, so far tonight you’ve been told at least five times how lucky you were, that Peter was a catch, and that no less than six women had admitted they would die to be in your place. You had to bite your tongue to keep from telling them he was all theirs if they could keep from choking on all the chauvinism he oozed.
Passing the empty glass to a wandering waiter you smiled at him when he gave you a little grin. “Thank you.”
Looking around the room you spotted a door that led to an outdoor patio and started that way, hoping to get some air to help with this feeling of not being able to breathe. You were halfway through the room when you heard your name being called. Looking over Peter smiled and waved you over, he wasn’t alone though, more people for you to meet. Great. Taking another deep calming breath you shifted your footing and started over towards them stretching a pretty smile on your lips that you hoped didn’t make you look crazy. Or maybe you did. Then no one would want to talk to you.
“Sweetheart,” Peter said as he held his arm out for you, placing it around your waist when you got close enough. “This is my partner at the firm Andrew Chen and his wife Wendy. This is Y/N L/N, my fiance.”
“It’s so nice to finally meet you,” Wendy said as she placed her hand on your shoulder. Her brown eyes held nothing but laughter. She was teasing you both. “He hasn’t shut up about you.”
“Nice to meet you both.” You smiled as you shook Andrew’s hand.
“What are you doing with a guy like him?” Andrew said as he looked over at Peter with a laugh. “She’s out of your league, man.”
“Don’t I know it,” Peter laughed, hugging you closer to his side. You felt your skin crawl.
Andrew smiled before looking over at you. “And you still agreed to marry this guy?”
“I guess you could say I came as part of a business deal.” You smiled leaning your head against Peter’s shoulder. Making a joke of your shitty situation. You felt him tighten his hold on you, his fingers digging into your side painfully and you had to stop yourself from wincing.
The small group laughed at your “joke”, before it quieted down enough for a bit of small talk.
“So where did you meet?” Wendy asked as she took a sip of her champagne.
“Oh… We me-” You started but Peter interrupted you.
“We met at one of her fathers parties. Our dad’s are going to be business partners for a new company up in Chicago. That’s why they wanted us to look at those contracts Drew.”
“Oh I remember that.” He nodded with a smile.
“Once those contracts were signed he threw a party and invited us down.” Peter said, smiling down at you. “I met her that night. Couldn’t keep my eyes off her.”
You remembered that night. He stared at you for most of it and it creeped you out.
“That’s so cute!” Wendy sighed as she looked up at Andrew.
The four of you chatted for a few more minutes until someone else called Andrew and Wendy over. “Oh shit that’s Michael Chance. I’ve been working on getting a contract with his guy for months. Excuse us.”
You watched as the two of them walked away and once they were out of sight you tried to take a step to the side away from Peter but his grip only tightened on you.
“Are you alright?” Peter asked, looking down at you.
“I’m fine.” You said waving his concern away.
“Are you sure?” He asked. “It isn’t like you to act this way.”
“How would you know?” You snapped. “You don’t know anything about me.”
“I know everything about you.”
“What’s my favorite color? My favorite book?” You asked as you looked up at him, blinking curiously. “How do I like my coffee?”
Peter floundered a little as he searched for answers for the questions you posed to him. He didn’t know any of them.
“You don’t know, do you?” Pulling out of his grip you glared at him. “Of course you don’t. Cause you don’t know me. If you did I’m sure you wouldn’t even like me. But you like the idea of me. Well let me help you get to know me a little better. I think I'm a fairly good person. I like to bake and cook for the people I love, I’m sarcastic and a little bratty, and I don’t like you. I’m not an idiot, I know how business deals work with my father. He gets what he wants as long as the other party gets what they want, and you want me. Not because you love me, or like me, but because you think I'm something pretty and you want to own me. Now you get to. So something you should know right now is that as soon as we say “I do” I’m going to make your life a living hell… Til death do us part.”
Sending him one last glare you turned and walked away from him, back towards the patio that you were originally headed to when he called you over. Peter watched you move out of his reach, his jaw clenched in a low simmering anger. He knew that you weren’t stupid. He knew that you didn’t want this. But he didn’t care. He wanted you and he got you, you didn’t have to like him to marry him. As time went on he knew that you would grow to love him. Even if it took years.
Dan sighed as he placed the glass of his favorite bourbon on the small table. Eddie always kept a bottle on the back shelf for him in case he should stop by and damn did he need it right now. Steve had just filled him and Eddie in on the entire fucked up tale and he had to admit it would make for a great movie. There were scandals, love confessions, blackmail, forced marriage, and even a little bondage thrown in for spice.
“Looks like your girl found herself in a little trouble.” The lawyer said as he looked over at Eddie. “But the good news is we have a case.”
“We do?” Steve asked in what could only be called a hopeful tone.
“We do.” Dan said as he emptied his glass. “Everything currently happening is incredibly illegal. We have laws that say you can’t force someone to marry another against their will. And I happen to know for a fact that they altered Ed's finances. He doesn’t have any children. There was one scare a few years ago but the paternity test put that to rest very quickly.”
“So we can get her out?” Eddie asked as he leaned towards his old dom, his arms on the table top, he looked eager. He wanted to see you so badly.
“We can.” He nodded. “It’ll take some time and I’ll have to call in a few favors but we can fix this.”
“How long?” Eddie asked as he got off his stool to pace around. “I don't want her to be stuck up there any longer than she already has been.”
“A few weeks,” He said, running his hand down his short beard. “We have to pull everything we can get on her father, and the Malloy’s. With how quickly everything is moving it’s obvious this isn’t the first shady deal for either of them. Plus, the name Peter Malloy is familiar to me.”
“He’s a lawyer in Chicago.” Reaching into this pocket Steve pulled out the card Peter had given him and handed it to Dan. “He gave me this today. He wants us to hang out, get to know each other, because Y/N and I are so close.”
“When's the wedding?” Dan asked as he looked at the tiny business card. Yeah that name was familiar but not because of his work as a lawyer. But because he was a complete creep.
“I don’t know yet, maybe a few weeks? She was getting all those last minute details done today. But the engagement party is happening right now.” Steve said, pointing to the table. It made him nervous knowing that you were three surrounded by people who didn’t actually care about your well being.
“That’s good. Unfortunately we’ll need her to continue to play the part until I can get our evidence and talk to a judge.” Dan muttered as he put the business card in his wallet for safe keeping. “I have to go. The sooner we get this handled the sooner she can come home.”
“Thank you Dan,” Eddie said as he watched the older man get off his stool. “I’ll pay you back for this.”
Waving his hand in the air Dan shook his head leveling Eddie with a no nonsense look. “Pro bono. This girl is important to you which makes her important to me.”
Both Steve and Eddie gave a sigh of relief. Dan would take care of this and everything would be okay. You were coming home.
The morning after the engagement party you woke up as soon as the sun hit your window, the light of the early morning shining bright in your eyes making your head pound just a little. You definitely had too much to drink yesterday. Rolling over in your bed you grabbed the second pillow from by your head and pulled it to your chest to cuddle. You were not ready to get up yet and face the day so cuddling a pillow imagining it was Eddie would have to do, but the door to your room opening killed that and your stepmother's voice was like nails on a chalkboard.
“Get up.” She sighed as she leaned on the door frame. “We have an appointment for your dress fitting.”
“I didn’t even pick out a dress. How can I have a fitting?” You mumble into your pillows..
“Charlotte and I picked one out for you.” Evelyn said as she picked at her manicured nails. “We are leaving in twenty minutes.”
You kept your eyes closed as she left the room leaving your door wide open. Mostly to force you out of bed. She did that when you were younger too and didn’t want to go to school. She would come in, turn on all the lights, pull your blankets away, and then leave with the door open. In her mind it was a way to get you moving, since you were getting out of bed to close the door, you might as well get dressed, and go to school. You could still hear her heels clicking as she moved down the hall. Groaning you wiped the sleep from your eyes as you glared at the door before pushing the pillow away and sitting up. You weren’t sure how today was going to go but you prayed to anyone who was listening that the dress was at least decent.
Forty minutes later you found yourself standing in front of the mirror at the dress shop wearing the dress that was chosen for you and it was hideous. The dress was everything you feared it would be. A pure white, floor length dress covered in lace, ruffles, and heavy beading. The neckline was way too high and it covered everything up to your neck so it felt like lace was choking you. The sweetheart neckline did nothing for you and you had to wear a corset so the waist could be cinched down tightly to give you that hourglass shape that was accentuated by the pastel pink sash that led to a giant bow that sat right at the small of your back. Oh, and you didn’t even want to talk about the puffed sleeves or the full ball gown ruffled skirt. It was like a horrible mix of an old southern belle dress and something straight out of the 80’s. Gone with the Wind came to mind. You didn’t know where they found this monstrosity but it needed to go back to hell where it belonged. You felt like you couldn’t take a decent breath but whether that was from the corset or your anxiety you didn’t know.
The attendant, whose name was Lauren, could see you weren't happy but when she turned to talk to Evelyn and Mrs. Malloy she bit her tongue when your soon to be mother in law cooed at you.
“Don’t you just look like a dream?!” Mrs. Malloy said as she stood up from the couch she was on to come over to you fixing the giant pastel pink bow that sat just above your ass. “Peter’s going to love it!”
You gave her a tight smile. ”I'm so glad."
“I think it’s perfect.” Evelyn said from her spot on the couch. She looked way too smug for your taste as you glared at her through the mirror.
You have never wanted to hurt her so badly in your life. The need to rip her hair out was strong but you were better than that.
“Don't you just love it?” Mrs. Malloy asked as she hugged your shoulders in between her hands, staring at you in the mirror, pure joy on her face. “You know my Peter always had a thing for Scarlett O'Hara.”
‘Probably because she's as shitty as he is,’ You thought. Taking a steady breath you looked at her in the mirror. “I'm sorry but isn't this... a little… much?”
“Nonsense.” She said fluffing up your sleeve. “It's beautiful, a statement. Do you not like it?”
You battled with yourself for a moment, you didn’t want to upset the lady, but you couldn’t wear this. So you decide to tell her the truth. “No. I don't. This isn't what I would choose.”
“Oh…” She said, taking a small step back. Her joy dwindled a little as she spoke, making you feel terrible. “Oh I didn't realize. Evelyn said you would love it.”
‘Of course she did.’ You thought bitterly. “I'm sorry I know you love this dress but I can't wear this. Is there any way we can exchange it or something?”
Lauren nodded her head vigorously. She was more than ready to get you out of this horrible gown. Turning she called over one of her coworkers and spoke to her quietly before she turned back to you as the other girl ran off. “Absolutely. We can find something that is in the same price range and exchange it.”
“As much as I love this dress,” Mrs. Malloy said as she fiddled with one of the skirt ruffles. “I would rather you have a dress you want.”
‘Oh thank fuck.’ You thought as you bundled the skirts into your hands and stepped off the little podium to follow the lady back into the dressing room to change into something completely different.
Once the door was closed you dropped the wads of fabric and looked in the mirror again before you looked over at Lauren. “Can I say this dress is awful without offending the designer?”
“Oh no,” She said, shaking her head as she came up to you to start getting you out of this monstrosity. “This dress is terrible. I don’t even know why we have it in stock. I should have known something was fishy when two older ladies came in without the bride to look at dresses. But don’t worry we will get you in one that you love.”
You only smiled a little and let her fuss around you to remove the large bow and start to undo the laces from the back of the dress. You thought about what she said and you fully believed you would never find a dress you loved when you weren’t marrying the man you loved. Plus on top of everything you missed your mom, you always imagined looking for dresses with her and she wasn’t here to hype you up or defend you against the two harpies in the other room.
Stepping out of the giant dress puddle you watched as Lauren put it back on the hanger before she came back over to unlace the corset from around you. Once it was loose enough you took a deep breath. “Holy shit.”
“I know corsets not made for you are such a pain.” She said as moved around your front to pop the busk open and had you hold it closed while she grabbed a strapless bra and the robe from the chair in the corner of the room.
Once you were back in some more comfortable undergarments, the soft silky robe over your shoulders, there was a knock on the door behind you, turning you looked over your shoulder to see Lauren’s coworker enter the room with a couple of hangers in her hands. Lauren took those dresses and handed her the southern belle horror. “Thank you Nicole! Please take this dress away and bury it.”
Nicole looked horrified at the dress and bundled it up in her hands. “Gladly. They actually put you in this thing?”
“Yeah,” You nodded.
“I am so sorry.” She muttered as she slipped from the room taking the offending garment with her.
“I hope we can convince our manager to throw that out.” Lauren said as she placed the other dresses on the hooks in the wall. “Now, let's get you into something a little more this century.”
An hour later you left the shop with a dress you actually liked. It was an off the shoulder satin and lace a-line princess dress, floor length with a good train and moderate beading. It was classic yet modern and a thousand times better than the other one. Mrs. Malloy even got some of her money back for the first dress when they exchanged it for this one but she gave it back to the shop so they could rush the order.
You spent the rest of the day wandering the city with Mrs. Malloy and Evelyn. Picking out their dresses for the wedding, getting appointments for hair and make up, and picking out the flowers for the bouquets. When Mrs. Malloy paid for four bouquets you were incredibly confused, it was just you, you didn’t have a bridal party.
“Peter’s cousins wanted to be bridesmaids.” She said with a smile. “They already have dresses. You'll meet them when we go back to Chicago for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding.”
“Oh…” You sighed. “Great.”
God fucking damnit you couldn’t even pick out your own bridal party! You didn’t even know these girls, you always imagined that Tiffany and Ada would be up there with you Robin and Lizzy as well. On top of all of that you were just finding out the wedding wouldn’t even be in town! They were making you go to Chicago!
Soon you found yourself walking down the street behind the two ladies as they gossiped about who knew what you weren’t listening to them.
“Oh the cake!” Mrs. Malloy said as she stopped in front of a bakery. It was like an afterthought for her as she looked in the window at the display. “We need to order the cake!”
“I was thinking I could make my own cake.” You said stopping next to her. “I own a bakery.”
“Nonsense.” She said pushing the door open. “You have so much on your plate already, making a cake shouldn’t be something you need to worry about. It’s only three weeks until the wedding!”
Evelyn smiled as she walked in after her leaving you standing on the sidewalk. Your eyes burned as you looked at the display. The one thing you were trained for, that you loved to do the most, and you couldn’t even do that. You wanted to make your own cake. Taking in a calming breath you pushed open the door and walked into the bakery. It smelled sweet like vanilla with a hint of coffee, it was familiar, it smelled like home. You felt your spirit start to break.
It felt like years but it was only hours later that you finally found yourself back in your fathers house. Dropping down onto your bed you stared at the ceiling letting out a breath in a large sigh, you feel like the weight of the world is sitting on your chest. Mrs. Malloy and Evelyn said today was successful but you just felt defeated. At least you were able to convince them to change your dress. How the shop was going to get it ready in three weeks you have no idea.
Rolling over you grabbed the pillow you were cuddling this morning and buried your face in it. What was Eddie doing right now? Did he miss you? Did he hate you? You didn’t really end things well… Biting your lip you felt your eyes start to burn again. You couldn’t think about him right now. Steve would take care of everything. At least you hoped he would…
Tossing the pillow to the side you sat up as you heard Mrs. Malloy call a goodbye to you from the front door.
Mrs. Malloy.
You are gonna be a Mrs. Malloy soon. Scrunching up your face you stood from the bed and paced around your room tears starting to pool on your lower lashes. You didn’t like the sound of that, it didn’t flow well. Sniffing, you walked over to the mirror that sat on your vanity. In three weeks you were getting married. To a man you hated.
Wiping your face as you stood looking in the mirror. You barely recognized yourself and now you were getting a new last name. Straightening your back you thrust your hand forward as if to give someone a handshake a fake smile on your face. The same smile you’ve been holding for a while now. “I’m Y/N Malloy.”
You frowned as you shook your head, that just felt wrong. Sniffing, you blink back the tears as you try again, shaking your hands out before you take a deep breath and look in the mirror again. Your hand went out, the smile plastered on your face. But you faltered, your lower lip wobbling. The tears finally broke through your barriers, sliding down your cheeks as you spoke through the lump in your throat. “I’m…. Y/N… Malloy…”
Turning away from the mirror you groaned as you walked towards the window seat that faced the garden. You always loved this view but tonight it didn’t do anything for you. Taking a seat you pulled your legs to your chest and cried. God damnit you were so tired of crying.
Eddie sat in his old van hidden in the darkness on the side road next to your fathers house, his hand tapping on the steering wheel anxiously as he watched the window that led to your room. He remembered which one was yours from when you showed him at your grandmother's funeral. He had been sitting out here for hours hoping to just get a glimpse of you. But the lights in your room had remained off until recently and he sat up straight when they came to life. He hated that he was so close but so far and he really hated how he felt like such a stalker but if this was the only way he could see you then so be it.
'Says the stalker.' He reprimanded himself in his head. For the next few minutes he watched you as you paced.
You moved about your space, your figure coming in and out of the view from the window before you stepped away from the window all together and he sighed. "Come on baby, let me see you. I need to know you're okay."
A few minutes later you were back in full sight and he sat forward to get a better look at you over the dashboard as you sat on the window seat he knew was there and curled in on yourself shoulders shaking. "No.. don't… don't cry sweetheart."
He watched for a few minutes before he couldn’t take it anymore, the need to comfort you was too strong. As silently as he could he slipped from the van and closed the door without so much as a squeak from the old hinges. Silently, he stuck to the shadows moving towards the fence and once he got close to the wall he jumped, his hands grasping the top of the six foot iron and brick fence. Lifting himself with a groan he swung one of his legs up then the other, careful to not hit anything important, and as he reached the other side he easily dropped down onto the grass in your fathers side yard. He stayed for a moment and when no one screamed at him, he snuck through the gardens trying hard to avoid being seen from the windows as he moved through the yard until he found your window. Now he just needed to get your attention.
Looking around he tried to find something to throw, anything would work. His eyes zero’d in on the small pebbles that surrounded the rose bushes and grinned. Well this always worked in the movies. Crouching down he grabbed a handful of the small rocks from the flowerbed and took a few steps back, praying to a god he didn’t believe in that he would hit your window since he wasn’t much of an athlete. Taking aim he chucked a rock up and quietly cheered when it hit before he did it again.
Your head lifted up and you wiped at your face as you looked confused at the sound, what was that? You were about to brush it off when another rock hit your window and you flinched, turning so you could look out the window, you gazed down into the garden. That’s when you saw him standing there with a small smile on his face, his eyes soft even from this distance, you blinked. Eddie? Oh my god, you have finally gone insane. Seeing the one person you want to be with the most outside your window. He couldn’t be here. Wouldn’t be here. That would be stupid.
Another small rock hit your window and you gasped when you looked at him watching as he gave a little wave. He was here! You smiled at him before panic rushed in. Your eyes went wide. He wasn’t supposed to be here! What if he was caught!? “Eddie..”
Quickly you leap from the window seat and rushed from view making him frown as he watched you leave. Taking a few steps backward he dropped the rest of the stones in his hand and looked around, what should he do now? You ran from the window so quickly. Did you not want to see him? A sound to his left grabbed his attention and he quickly ducked behind some foliage as the side door opened. “Shit..”
“Eddie?” You whispered as you stepped outside and closed the door. Looking around you noticed he wasn’t there anymore and bit your lip. You couldn’t see him anymore. Had he just been some trick your mind was playing? Pushing your hair out of your face you looked up at your window. Was he just a figment of your imagination?
Peeking up over the bush he was hiding behind, Eddie sighed in relief as he stood up a bit and hissed at you getting your attention. He watched as your head snapped over and you stared at him for a moment before you started for him, your hands coming up to grab his shoulders. You couldn’t stop touching him and he couldn’t stop staring at you, his hands now on your hips, fingers squeezing the meat beneath them. He could feel your hands as they moved around his shoulders, neck, cheeks and hair before you finally pulled yourself together. Your eyes were wide, breathing a little stuttery as you tried not to cry. He was here.
“What are you doing here?” You muttered, in complete shock. Eddie was here, in front of you, touching you. A noise from the house snapped you out of your shock and you let out a curse, you couldn’t just stand out in the open like this, looking over at the house you looked around before you quickly started to push him back into the relative safety of the trees. At least there you could hide away from prying eyes.
“I had to see you.” He said, his hands coming up to cup your jaw. “I’ve missed you.”
Tears brimmed your eyes. God, you’ve missed him so much. “If anyone sees you, they’-”
“Let them see me!” He said louder than he meant too but he was angry. His hand moved to your chin lifting your face to the side to see the slight hollowness of your cheeks, the almost healed bruise. More anger flared in his chest, they were starting to break you down until you were nothing but a shadow of your former self. “Did they do this?”
“That's not important right now.”
“Don't defend them!”
“I'm not defending them, I'm protecting you!” You hissed. Closing your eyes you sighed. “If they find you they’ll have you arrested for trespassing.”
“I’m willing to risk that.” Eddie said as he pushed some of your hair off your forehead. Where was his feisty girl?
“I’m not.” You said, shaking your head trying to get him to lower his voice. “Eddie please. You can’t be here.”
“Well, I’m not leaving until we talk.”
“Eddie!” You whined as you looked back towards the house before turning back to him, your arms pushing him away a bit. “You wanna talk? Fine, let's talk. Why the fuck did you not tell me you had a kid?!”
“Because I don’t.” He said with a shake of his head. “I had a scare once but we did a test and the kid’s not mine. I paid maybe three months of child support before we found out.”
“I saw the papers, Eddie! You don’t need to lie!”
“I’m not lying! Do you know how easy it is to doctor records with computers now?”
You stared at him, your eyes searching for any sign of a lie. When you don’t see any you sighed in relief letting your head fall onto his shoulder. “Oh thank god.”
“Sweetheart, listen, Steve told me everything.” He muttered putting his hand on the back of your neck, “I know you only did what you did to keep my secrets. To protect me. But that’s not your job baby.”
“It is when it’s my father that’s threatening you.” Leaning back you looked up at him with sad eyes. “You should go. Just forget about me. It’ll be safer for you.”
“If you think for one moment that I’m going to let you just walk out of my life without a fight, you’re not as smart as I thought you were.”
“I’m not worth this Eddie.” You whispered.
His look turned sour for a moment and in a flash his hand moved from your neck into your hair, his fingers firmly pushing into your locks and pulling your head back a little so you would have to look up at him. A gasp left you as he leaned forward so he could whisper in your ear. “I don’t ever want to hear you say that again. No one talks badly about the woman I love. Not even the woman herself. You’re worth fighting for. Do you understand me?”
Tears fell from your eyes as the pain radiated on your scalp but you could barely concentrate on that. He still loved you. Eddie had just told you he still loved you. Nodding you felt him let your hair go and you laid your forehead on his shoulder as you hugged him close to you. Your whispered reply was hard to hear but he got it and it made his heart thump in his chest. “I love you too.”
“We’re going to fix this sweetheart. I promise you. You aren’t going to marry that asshole and you’re coming home. We just need time.” His hand went to the back of your head, his fingers playing with a lock of your hair as he leaned his cheek against the crown of your head holding you as close as he could. It was wonderful to feel you in his arms again.
“Eddie the wedding is in three weeks… in Chicago.”
Pulling you from his shoulder he smiled down at you as his thumbs brushed away the tears from under your eyes. “That's good to know. But we have a plan that will get you out of this while also taking down your dad and the Malloy's. Dan’s looking into it but we need you to play along a little longer. Do you trust me?”
“With my life.” You nodded.
“Good..” He kissed your forehead, the tip of your nose, and then finally your lips. It was sweet and loving, everything you both had been missing. Putting his forehead against yours he whispered to you. “It’s going to be okay.”
“Y/N?” Your father called making you gasp and pull away from Eddie to look towards the house. When had he left the house? Was he close? Had he seen Eddie?
“Coming!” You yelled back pushing Eddie back towards the fence in your panic. He needed to get out of here. “You have to go.”
Eddie nodded as your father called for you again. Pushing his hand into the pocket of his jeans he pulled out a necklace and held it out to you. A guitar pick just like the one he gave you before hung on a silver chain. “This is yours if you want it.”
“Y/N!” Your father was getting more annoyed the more he had to call you.
Holding your hand out you took the necklace and held it against your chest. Turning around you cleared your throat as you called back. “I’m coming!”
“I love you.” Eddie said as he grabbed your hand, pulling you close to give you one more kiss. “I’m coming back for you.”
“I love you.” Kissing him one last time you push him towards the fence. “Now go!”
You watched as he made a running jump to grab the top of the fence and climbed over it quickly. Once he was on the other side you shoved the necklace in your pocket and started to move out of the trees towards your dad who called you again. You took a deep breath to calm your emotions as you caught sight of him. “I’m here. Sorry. I just needed some fresh air.”
“I’ve been calling for you!” He hissed when you got close enough. “The neighbors must think I’m insane. Now get inside. Peter’s here to see you.”
“Great.” You mutter as you pass him, giving one last look at the fence Eddie had climbed over. Hoping and praying that this won’t be the last time you see him.

Overprotective (Brandon Walsh, Dylan McKay x Reader)
Description : you are best friends with Dylan and Brandon, and let just say that they can be a tad overprotective when it comes to there best friend y/n
Requested : nope
Warnings : None
"So... would you like to go out with me this friday night?" asked a guy who had his hand above you're head, you on the other hand was twirling your money pieces blushing as the boy.
"I would love to." you said as you smiled, he beamed a big grin before walking away
Meanwhile Brandon and Dylan were watching the whole thing happen.
“Way to go y/n!” Said Brandon as he held his hand up giving you a high five which to you was a surprise but you gave him one anyway
“Thanks… guys…” you said as you shut your locker before walking away “either of you want to tell me why you were spying on mine and masons conversation?” You asked as you turned around to face the boys with a smirk on your face, clutching your books close to your chest
“Umm… would you look at that Brenda is calling for me.” Stammered Dylan “sorry but I got to go…”
With that Dylan left
“And I need to meet andrea about that… article for the blaze.”
And at that Brandon gave you a pat on the shoulder before walking away, making you roll your eyes before walking away.
——
“Ignore my brother he can be a bit dramatic at times.” Said Brenda as she was helping you get ready for your date, you, on the other hand, didn't mind it.
"Oh it's fine, you should have seen my dad, he wouldn't even let me out of the house," you said
"Don't worry, mines the same way when Dylan comes around," said Brenda as she put the last remaining hairspray onto your hairstyle "Perfect."
You looked at yourself in the mirror, admiring yourself. Your hair was done up in curls as it perfectly framed your face
"Thanks, Bren, your the best." you said as you hugged your best friend, that was soon interrupted when Brandon walked through the door
"Now if that guy starts to make you uncomfortable, let me know." Said Brandon which earned a slap from Brenda.
"Brandon!"
"What, just saying."
Beep Beep
"That's him, bye guys," you said as you grabbed your purse before darting out the door
"They grow up so fast," said Brandon as he faked a tear, Brenda rolls her eyes at her twin brother

Brandon, nervously: What about it?

The BH 90210 Rewrite. 1x17: Stand (Up) And Deliver.
Rewrite Masterlist
Read the previous chapter here!
Chapter Summary: Tensions run high when Brandon decides to run for class president.
Warnings: It’s like 90% angst this week. Everyone’s a jerk at some point in this. Brandon’s a jerk. You’re a jerk. Kelly’s a jerk. Just be prepared haha. There might be a swear word in there somewhere. If any of you find something that should be tagged in the warnings, let me know!
Words: 4,100.
My work is not to be reposted and/or edited without my expressed written consent. (Reblogging is fine and encouraged!!!)
A/N: Just a little disclaimer beforehand: I like Kelly. I know this chapter doesn’t exactly paint her in the best way, but all of the relationships will heal in due time. This one was really fun to write and I hope you all enjoy it! Let me know what you guys think!
-
“Brandon, wait up!” You swerve around the clumps of people in the hall to catch up to him, “I’ve got a proposition.”
“Yeah? Your desk or mine?” He wraps his left arm around you, hand warm against your waist as he pulls you close.
"Well, actually, Andrea has a proposition for you. I’m just the messenger,“ You slip a paper out of the folder in your hands and pass it to him. His head cocks, looking back at you peculiarly.
“‘Run for office?’ Y/N/N… no one even knows me here.”
“That’s what makes this so perfect, no one knows you enough to hate you or anything! Look, this is a good idea because from what Andrea told me, the rest of the candidates are a bunch of popular airheads. And with your Kennedy hair and actual set of morals, you’d be a total shoo-in! At least think about it, okay?” He pecks the top of your head, fiddling with the paper in his hand.
“Yeah, I’ll think about it.”
-
“Yo, politicos! Last-minute dark horse entry into the class presidential elections!” One minor downfall to Brandon’s entry— David Silver. You forgot he was documenting the entire thing and you didn’t find out about it until he was there sticking a camera in your face and asking you what made Brandon such a ‘suitable candidate.’ You might just lose your mind. “Brandon Walsh, the new kid on the West Beverly block.”
“The sister is always the last to know,” Brenda grumbles, leaning back into the lockers as she watches her brother get relentlessly hounded by a few bulky cameras.
“He kind of looks like a politician,” Kelly shrugs, “He’s got that Kennedy hair.” Kelly watches as well, though she’s much more interested than the candidate’s sister. Brandon turns down the hall and out of sight, the group of cameras following his every move. She bites her lip amorously. “It’s like a magnet.”
“What?”
“Power,” she smirks, a devilish glint in her eye.
Brenda shoots her a warning glare, “Kelly, don’t.”
-
“What great news!” Mrs. Walsh gushes, “You know, we’ve always felt bad about moving here and screwing up your plans to run back home.”
“Do you think you can pull it off?” Jim questions, sipping his afternoon coffee.
“Oh! Definitely,” Donna makes her presence known at the entrance of the kitchen, with Kelly not too far behind and… suddenly you feel the urge to leave. Immediately. “The other guy’s a nobody too. No offense.”
“I’ve never been friends with a candidate before!” Kelly smiles, rounding the table to go over to Brandon, while you’re off by the kitchen counter with the other twin.
“Friends with a candidate’s sister,” Brenda corrects.
“Uh, right,” She nods, “I’ve never even voted.” She sets her hand on him, her fingertips gently grazing his shoulder.
Brandon clears his throat, shrugging her hand off of him and moving over to the counter, “Well, you gotta get involved, Kel. It’s important to try to change things.”
“Oh, I plan to.”
“Kelly!” Brenda urges. Once she realizes everyone’s eyes are on her, she readjusts herself. “Uh, didn’t you want to um, borrow one of my jackets? Because I have it upstairs if you want to come get it.” Huh. That was… weird.
-
It’s the next morning, and you’re sitting there at the kitchen table with the Walshes, making button after button after button. It honestly felt like your hands were gonna fall off at this point. The things you do for that boy.
“So there I was, listening to Donna being heckled and instantly I knew what to do!” Brenda grins, reminiscing about the previous night at The Fall Out.
“That’s great, honey,” Jim smiles absentmindedly, “Would you pass me that glue, please?”
“Bren, that’s incredible! You’ll have to drag me along next time, I so want to see that in action.” You’re the only one to actually acknowledge her as you help Cindy glue down something onto one of one thousand campaign buttons. Ugh, you could feel the blisters forming.
“Definitely! Performance-oriented coffee houses are really happening, I mean, I really felt like a part of it!”
“Right… Is this button crooked?” Cindy asks, holding it up to her chest to get a second opinion.
“It’s fine, mom.” Brenda sighs, scooting her chair out from under her. She stands up with a silent huff and stomps to the foyer to greet whoever came to the door a few minutes prior. You know what you’re doing is for Brandon, but you can’t help but think about how Brenda’s holding up throughout all of this. I mean, her parents barely even acknowledge her existence at this point.
“Well, I was up all night from that toxic cappuccino, thinking about what you said about getting involved…” Kelly’s purring at Brandon in the foyer while Donna stands idly by. “Brandon, I can help you win. I know everyone.”
“Or how to glom onto everyone,” Donna mutters.
“And that’s exactly what you need.” Kelly bargains.
Brenda stalks over to the group, eyeing the persistent girl suspiciously.
“Kelly, whenever political stuff comes on you switch to MTV,” She raises her eyebrows in disbelief as she objects. She isn’t gonna let Kelly sink her claws into her brother. Not on her watch.
“Look, help from anyone would be appreciated,” Brandon smiles politely, stepping back into the doorway as Kelly tries to bound closer.
“Help doing what?” Andrea swoops in from behind Brandon and waltzes in through the open door, arms full of rolled up campaign posters.
“I’m going to run Brandon’s campaign!” Kelly grins.
“Kelly, he already has someone running his campaign,” Andrea reminds her.
“Yeah, I think Y/N already has it covered,” Brenda jumps in, nodding eagerly.
“Well, isn’t there enough room for the both of us?” Kelly asks, hitching an eyebrow up. She folds her arms over her chest and starts at the candidate.
“I really don’t think it’s a good idea, Kel,” Brandon agrees.
“Oh, come on! You can never have too much help. It’ll be fun.”
-
“Here, I got some cute politician photos,” Kelly offers. Oh yeah. Kelly being here was a real help. “Try to model yourself after these guys, okay?”
“Well, I can see you’ve been busy,” You comment, peering over her shoulder to look at the pictures she prepared. “Gary Hart never even made it to the nominations, Kelly. Besides, what we need to be focusing on are the actual issues. Not if Brandon looks cute enough.” You go and sit back down at Brandon’s desk.
“Yeah!” Brandon agrees enthusiastically, “See, I had this idea that we could feed the homeless people with all the surplus food they throw out of the cafeteria.”
“That’s perfect!” You smile approvingly, tapping your fingers against the wooden desk. “And that’s why you’re going to win— you actually use your brain instead of just your face.”
“Wait!” Kelly cautions, “We have to hit people with what they want for themselves.”
“Hey,” you hear Brenda’s voice come from the conjoined bathroom, “Big news— I’ve got my own campaign going— to leave school.”
“Brenda, that is a great idea!” Kelly exclaims, “Yeah, we’ll tell them they can leave school for lunch!” Oh dear.
Brenda stomps back into her room without hesitation and slams the door behind her. You sigh, lifting yourself from the seat.
“Be right back, B,” you trail after your best friend into her bedroom, sitting beside her on her bed. “You’re serious about quitting school?”
“Yeah, I am serious, actually.”
“Hey, y’know, in some cases, getting your equivalency could actually be more beneficial. Just because it’s not right for other people doesn’t mean it can’t be right for you.” Well… you didn’t think it was a great idea, but you weren’t about to tell her that. The last thing she needs right now is for another person to dismiss her. And hey, if anyone can pull it off, it’s probably her.
“Tell my parents that,” she snickers, eyes rolling.
-
You can’t believe you’re even thinking this… but you are so sick of Brandon’s face. You can’t turn down a hall without seeing his picture, seeing his face staring right at you. “Brandon Walsh for CLASS PRESIDENT.” It was mocking you at this point. And you know, you know, it was partly your idea. But it was mostly Andrea’s. And the idea was to work on the campaign with him as a team. A small two-person team. Maybe even three with Andrea. But not Kelly. Anyone but Kelly.
You’re sitting with Brenda at Fall Out and it feels good— getting out of school, out of your house, out of Casa Walsh. Not to mention the great coffee.
“Rumor has it that some things you learn with Jack you never wanna unlearn,” Sky, the spunky redheaded barista whispers.
“Are you two…” Brenda trails off, both hands wrapped around her warm coffee mug.
“No way,” she giggles, “Even good sex ruins a good friendship.” The guy you had met earlier, Jack, treads over, plopping himself down on the empty seat at the table. “Listen, Jack, I really hate to ask you this, believe me… but it’s family crisis time again, I’ve gotta go up to Modesto.”
“Forget it,” he scoffs, “every time I house-sit for you we wind up in a fight. It’s always ‘you didn’t water the plants’ or ‘you forgot to feed the guppy.’”
“Hey, you know, if you need a house sitter I might have a candidate,” Brenda smirks.
-
You watch, horrified as Brandon’s campaign video plays across the Walshes tv screen. It’s self-indulgent superficial nothingness as clip after clip of Brandon being cute and literally nothing else is displayed. This had to be the most incredible thing you’ve ever seen. No selling points, no talk about anything he’s looking to improve, not even a lousy bribe. Wonderful. Very smart move letting Kelly put this together. And it’s only getting better as it freeze frames, with David’s voice-over pulling through.
“Bran the man! And he can deliver.” You had to fight off every urge you had to laugh out loud. I mean… come on. Come. On! Bran the man? Way to go, Kel.
“Bran the man?” Brandon’s just as confused as you are, mouth agape. You have to take a deep breath to suffocate the laugh that’s trying to claw its way up before you speak. And behind that laughter, there was just a little bit of anger. Juuust a little bit.
“Now, okay. As incredible as that was, Kelly, and I mean incredible— you told us… nothing.”
“That’s the beauty of it! He doesn’t have to say anything.”
“That’s not a good thing! He could be trying to reinstate nazis or the KKK into West Beverly and we’d have no idea. Brandon, you can’t possibly think this is a good idea!” You protest, eyes wide.
“Hey, we all want to win, Y/N/N.” Okay. Make that a lot of anger. He was actually going to let that flaming piece of self-indulgent garbage be his campaign video?
“Well, if this is your way of winning… I think there’s a part of me that actually wants you to lose. I’m out.“ You shove on your jacket, jumping up from your seat and start to foot it out the door.
“Hey, where are you going?”
You shrug carelessly, “I don’t know. Might grab some pie, might rent a movie, maybe a pizza. We’ll see.” You make it out before he can get another word in, the slamming of the door the only sound in the house now. Hah. Bran the Man. Unbelievable.
“I can’t believe it,” Brandon mumbles, “she totally just deserted me.”
“Well…” Kelly begins, “I’m still here, Brandon.” He lets out a gravelly sigh, shaking his head as he paces over to the bookshelves.
“I don’t know. I think she’s right. The whole thing might be a little vain.”
“Listen, Brandon,” she stalks over to him, voice lowering, “If you really want something… you have to go after it. Hard. Any means necessary.”
That’s when it clicks for him. Had Kelly had been coming onto him this entire time? He looks down at his feet, chuckling sheepishly, a hint of bitterness peaking through.
“I’m an idiot, aren’t I?”
Kelly shakes her head, approaching closer and letting her arms snake around his neck.
“I wouldn’t say so.”
“Kelly,” he grabs her wrists and removes them from around him, setting them back at her sides.
“C’mon, no one has to find out,” she purrs, attempting to return to the previous position.
This time, he’s not so gentle, practically flinging her arms off of him. “What’s your problem? She’s technically not even your girlfriend!"
“But she’s not not my girlfriend. Just because we haven’t sat and talked and said ‘we’re dating’ doesn’t mean it changes our relationship. I love her, Kelly. And there’s nothing you or anyone else can do about that."
“But—“
“Let me rephrase this so you understand,” he continues, only speaking fractionally slower. Taunting her. “I’m not going to do this to Y/N. And I’m not gonna self-sabotage after one argument. I don’t know if I’ve been sending off the wrong signals or something— but I have no interest in you romantically. I agreed to let you help so I could get extra help on the campaign. Not so I could see your clumsy, evil attempt at trying to seduce me out of the relationship with the girl I love.” He clears his throat, “Now… Are we clear?”
Kelly exhales in defeat, eyes lightly lined with tears of embarrassment. “Crystal.”
-
“This place is so cool!” You cheer as you enter through the front door of Sky’s apartment, cheese pizza in hand.
“I know, right?!” Brenda beams, “I can’t believe I actually convinced my parents to let me stay here for a few days. Then again, maybe they’ve been so focused on Brandon that it slipped right by them.”
“No way! Parents worship the ground their children walk on, they just never admit it,” you convince, throwing your jacket on the couch.
“That’s probably true,” Brenda laughs, “how’d you convince your parents?”
“I didn’t, Eric did. I swear that kid could talk his way out of a paper bag,” You set the pizza down on the coffee table, kicking your feet up. “So, our first order of business. What are we watching? Dirty Dancing or Risky Business?”
-
You sigh as you and Brenda watch her brother chat up a random jock. Tom or Todd or Mark or something.
“Brandon hates that jerk,” She notices. Andrea joins you at your other side, scoffing.
“Yeah, well, jerks are voters too,” she adds.
“I just can’t believe he let himself get manipulated this way!” Brenda might not be able to, but you sure can.
“Major integrity loss,” Andrea laments.
“And here comes Svengali,” you fawn sarcastically as Kelly struts her way over, nose wrinkled in disgust.
“Brenda, how can you wear that costume?”
“Well, Kelly, you put one arm through one sleeve and one through the other,” Brenda taunts back. You’d think with the number of costumes Kelly wears that she’d be a pro by now.
“First of all, Hippie Witch is out,” She hisses.
“It’s not hippie witch. It’s twin peaks and it’s very in, but that doesn’t matter.”
“What does matter is that it’ll hurt Brandon,” Kelly barks back. Yeah. Like she’s ever cared about Brandon.
“Just till elections, kay, Bren?” You don’t even notice Brandon until he’s there, directly in front of you. He’s like a pop-up book from hell, “so, are you guys coming to the campaign party at Donna’s?”
“As much as we’d love to, we have to stay and house sit for Sky,” you shrug.
“Sounds thrilling,” Kelly comments.
“Well, Kelly, one day when you’re finally grown up enough to be on your own, maybe you’ll understand having responsibilities beyond finding the best shoes to match your outfit,” you snap.
-
“Can’t you at least leave the chair?!” You call after the man that’s been carrying out Sky’s possessions for the last twenty minutes, but your voice is raw and it’s all in vain as he carries out the last of it. “There’s nothing left!”
“Uh, you’re something,” Oh. Jack. Or was it Mark?
“They took everything,” You bellow, “I mean, I could’ve tried to fight them to the death for it but I’m not sure that would have done any good. The repo man knows no bounds, apparently.”
“I know, I saw ‘em cruise by. It’s pretty awful. But hey, at least it’s only things. We’ve got what’s important. You… me, Shakespeare the fish, and some Franco-American spaghetti.” He strides into the apartment and over to the oven, to which you follow. He holds his lighter up to it, but to no avail. You jump as there’s a knock at the door. You bounce over, figuring it’s Brenda. And… well, it is. And then some.
“What’s going on?” You ask, Jack not far behind you.
“Y/N/N, I’m sorry, I tried to get them to go somewhere else but they wouldn’t listen,” Brenda apologizes genuinely as the group of people push their way in, “Hey, Jack.”
“So this is the fish you’re feeding while the cat’s away, huh? Classy,” Kelly smirks. Crowd after crowd file their way into the apartment every time you believe they’re about to stop. “Where’s the food?”
“Well, I’m sorry, Kelly, but if I knew you were coming I would’ve stocked the place for you!” You retort, eyes narrowing.
“I tried calling but the phone was disconnected,” she responds and sashays over to the fridge.
“I’m here at the Walsh campaign party,” oh god. You’d know that voice anywhere. The joyous David Silver. “It’s sort of a standup event, everyone seems to be having a great time!” David speaks professionally to the camera as he walks through the front door and into the bare living room. You give a quick wave to Scott, who’s holding the camera as David continues to lay it on thick. “And here’s the candidate’s sister! The hostess with the mostest!” Brenda storms right up to David, ripping the microphone from his hand.
“Get out!” The room goes silent as all heads are turned to her as Jack calmly grabs the mic.
“Uh, friends. Yeomen. Country club men. Lend me those pierced ears. Listen up, how many of you really know what this candidate stands for?” Brenda slowly approaches Brandon, who was in the middle of chatting up potential voters.
“Do you even know anymore, Brandon? I mean, you’ve sorta turned into this processed candidate, haven’t you? Leaving any real help, any honest shot of winning behind.”
“David!” Kelly practically catapults herself across the room, grabbing David by the arm, “Why don’t we turn on the video, okay?” Damage control, you presumed. David moves to plug the tv in, but as soon as it goes into the outlet— darkness. And not the metaphorical deep kind of darkness, but literal darkness. The power goes out.
-
“No manager is listed! What do I do, ring all the bells?” You lament as you turn around to go back into the apartment, met by Steve at the doorway.
He mumbles as he breezes past you, “Low-rent city, Y/N/N.”
“You’re welcome, Steve!”
“Hey, where’s the fuse box?” Oh joy, the candidate himself.
“No clue.”
“No offense, but you really have the apartment from hell!” Kelly snickers. And that’s your finishing touch, tonight. Between the power going out, everything getting repossessed, and Brandon and Kelly the power couple from hell, you can’t take it anymore.
“You know, you guys just showed up!” You start, arms folded, “You just burst in, not even thinking that Brenda and I might have a life, just assuming that it would be fine to invite yourself to someone else’s apartment!”
“Y’know, you could’ve been a little more supportive and offered the apartment,” Brandon jeers.
“Supportive?! Give me a break! What about you, Brandon?! You’ve been so vain and self-absorbed these past two weeks that I’m not even sure you’re the same guy anymore!” You snarl out, and you can almost guarantee that all the neighbors are now privy to the drama, but at the moment you really don’t care. You try to stop the words but the more they flow out the harder they are to stop. You can feel the burning in your eyes as they well up, “and you, Kelly!” You can hear the disgust rolling off your tongue as you say her name, “You just hate when anyone besides yourself gets attention, so you decide to console yourself on Brandon! Why can’t you go for any of the millions of guys in Beverly Hills, why do you have to always go straight for your friend’s boyfriends?!”
You pause for a moment and inhale deeply, “Look. You guys have had no problem passing me right by, so why don’t you both just keep on going and leave me the hell alone?”
“C’mon, Y/N. Don’t do this now!” He whips you back around, his grasp firm but gentle enough that if you wanted to keep walking, you could. You look him dead in the eye as your voice softens.
“I’m sorry, it bad timing for your campaign?”
Brandon sighs, and when the light catches his eye you can see he’s just as thrilled with this fight as you are, tears delicately rimming the edges. He releases his grip on your arm. Taking your hand in his instead, apologetically, he drops his voice down to match yours.
“I gotta go now. Are you sure you don’t want to come?”
“I don’t even think I want to vote. But hey, you know what, Brandon? Congratulations. You might really have what it takes to be a politician.”
-
“Mr. Walsh, your proposals please.”
“Uh, my first order of business will be to get rock bands every Friday at lunch.” The room breaks out in an erupting cheer as you and Brenda watch amusedly off to the side. You look down at the “Walsh for Class President” button in your hand, fidgeting with the metal clasp between your fingers as a brief chant of “Walsh! Walsh! Walsh!” starts. God, he had them eating out of his fingers at this point.
His opponent, Michael Miller, leans into the mic. His voice rings throughout the room skeptically as the cheers settle, “How do you plan to implement this?”
“Well, Uh…” He swallows, “Contact the bands.”
“It’s a little more complicated than that. There are releases and— and permits and insurance. When I was assistant activities committee chairman—“that doesn’t sound like a real title but whatever“—I brought in bands for the prom. Are you aware of all the red tape involved?”
“Uh…” Come on, Brandon. Say something. “No.” Uh-oh. “But you are. And that’s just one of about fifty reasons why you’re more qualified to be president than I am.”
Your hear Kelly’s enraged whispers from behind you, “What the hell is he doing?” As you smile down at your hands you know exactly what he was doing. He was being Brandon.
“And you certainly run a more honorable campaign. During the two weeks of total campaign madness, I set out to be an honest reputable candidate. I ended up with a vague campaign and I seriously hurt the people I love along the way. Not only that, but I’m nowhere near as experienced you as you are. And that’s the reason why I’m throwing my support to you… Mr. President.” Unanimous frustration spreads across the room, groans and everyone else’s aggravated yells sounding out. But you? You’re trying to keep your grin down.

"Hey, B.” You approach him in the hallway as he skids to a stop, letting Steve wander off with Donna and Kelly.
“Oh, hey. You want to talk?"
"I think we better,” you pause, “I can’t believe you dropped out… I mean, Steve was gonna stuff the ballot box for you and everything. He’s a real friend, that Steve.”
"I’m sorry."
"Wait– why?"
"You were right. I was self-absorbed. I got so wrapped up in trying to win any way that I could that in the long run all it did was push you away. I’m sorry."
"I’m sorry too,” you sigh, “as soon as things didn’t go as I planned I ran off. I think it’s safe to say we both did our share of messing up this week."
"Me a little more so than you, but yeah. I’d say so," he nods in agreement. As you peer to the nearest wall, you’re met with yet another Brandon Walsh poster. You smile deviously, yanking a sharpie out of your purse. You raise the marker to the poster and begin to sketch a goatee onto his black and white face with the real one off to your side, chuckling at your immaturity. You hand the sharpie off to him so he can continue to defile his own face. "Remind me to thank Andrea for this experience, will you?"

I would love some book recs! especially queer literary fiction!
Amazing!! I would love to share :) Also responding @ anon who asked for my trans book recs. This is for you too!
Since this is so long it'll probably get cut off on the dashboard, tl;dr there will be 1) list of trans-authored books and 2) a list where I talk about queer authors more generally (which includes some trans people that don't have trans characters in their books (yet)).
Trans Books by Trans Authors
Sketchtasy by Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore
Nevada by Imogen Binnie
The Pervert by Remy Boydell (graphic novel)
X by Davey Davis
Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin
Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman
Transmuted by Eve Harms
Future Feeling by Joss Lake
Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor
Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julian K Jarboe
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones by Torrey Peters
The Masker by Torrey Peters
Little Blue Encyclopedia (For Vivian) by Hazel Jane Plante
A Dream of a Woman by Casey Plett
A Safe Girl to Love by Casey Plett
Little Fish by Casey Plett
Confessions of the Fox by Jordy Rosenberg
Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom
The Black Emerald by Jeanne Thornton
Summer Fun by Jeanne Thornton
Small Beauty by jia qing wilson-yang
The above are all trans-authored books that have trans characters in them. They are mostly lit fic with a few dips into genre here and there. I have bolded some of my faves!
For queer book recs/authors more generally,
Poppy Z. Brite, the pen name of Billy Martin, who is gay and trans. He has some great 90s horror novels, in particular Exquisite Corpse, a gay serial killer thriller/romance.
Dennis Cooper, writes gay "extremist" fiction, my fave of which is The Sluts, which takes place entirely on an early 2000s gay escort forum.
Shola Von Reinhold, another trans author, wrote one of my fave books I've read this year, LOTE, which is textually extremely transgender, but I don't think explicitly "labels" the mc as trans, so I'm putting it in this list. I usually use 'dark academia' as a pejorative but this would be dark academia in the best sense of the word. Involves lots of research into weird stuff, hyperfixations, and very little academia.
Brontez Purnell writes lit fic about black gay men, and has another one of my fave books, Since I Laid My Burden Down, as well as probably the best title in this list: Johnny Would You Love Me If My Dick Were Bigger. Those were both smallish press releases, I believe, but he's gotten more attention recently via his FSG short story anthology, 100 Boyfriends.
Sarah Schulman. If you are on Tumblr hopefully you already know about her. If you haven't read any of her fiction, I'd recommend Rat Bohemia, Empathy, and People In Trouble (this is the book Rent was based off of).
Brandon Taylor is very popular on twitter but I feel like I haven't seen much about him on tumblr. I really liked his debut novel Real Life, which follows a gay black postgrad student in a midwestern PhD program full of mostly white people. He also has an anthology, Filthy Animals, full of linked stories that take place in a similar setting.
James Baldwin. Another classic author. If you haven't read Giovanni's Room, go read it.
Carmen Maria Machado has a stunning memoir, In The Dream House, about lesbian domestic violence. She also writes speculative fiction stories, some can be found in the collection Her Body and Other Parties.
Eric LaRocca is gay horror's current darling due to his breakout hit Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, about an online long-distance lesbian d/s relationship. He's been pumping out the books recently, all with great titles and covers.
Jean Kyoung Fraiser released a debut last year that was in my top faves as well, Pizza Girl, a coming-of-age story about a just-married and recently pregnant 18 year-old who works (you guessed it) as a pizza delivery girl, and develops a crush on an older woman, one of her customers.
Venita Blackburn wrote How to Wrestle a Girl, a black lesbian coming-of-age short story anthology. Also a recent release. I really loved the writing in this one.
...Okay, I think that's most of the big hitters for me at least! Going to give a few honorary mentions: Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park, translated from Korean, about the life of a young gay man in Seoul. Also anything by Joe Koch, who writes horror, nothing specifically gay/trans that I have read yet, but The Wingspan of Severed Hands is really beautiful stylistically.
And just one more, since it's October: The Route of Ice and Salt by Jose Luis Zarate, published in the 90s and translated from Spanish, a gay reimagining of Dracula's sea voyage to England.
