I realize no one's asked you a Beverly Hills 90210 question in awhile, do you think it went on too long? The more I think about it, it feels like it might (?) have made more sense to end after S7 when they graduated college, especially since the RIGHT couples (Brenda/Dylan and Brandon/Kelly) were together during that time (even if we sadly didn't see Dylan and Brenda onscreen). Do you think Luke Perry would have even still left in S6 if Shannen Doherty hadn't left at the end of S4?

I actually know a little about this. We can lay the blame directly at Jason Priestley's feet. He left in Season 9. They broke Kelly and Brandon up because Jason was leaving. Brandon cheated on Kelly (which is INSANE). They did get back together but then there was some reason why they didn't get married. ANYWHO, Jason Priestley said leaving was incredibly short sighted because Aaron Spelling wanted to end the series with Brandon and Kelly together. It's not like there were any big gigs Jason had to leave for and the show ended less than a season later.

So thanks for blowing up the plan Jason.

They invited Luke Perry back for the final season I think in part to give Kelly a happy ending, but yeah it was supposed to be Brandon/Kelly and Dylan/Brenda. I was 100% in favor of the show ending sooner to get those couples versus it ending in S10.

I'm not sure if Luke would've stuck around if Shannon was still on the show. Probably not. I think he left in S6 because actors get restless on tv shows, they miss out on gigs and Luke wanted to do other things. I would've been floored in Shannon stayed for six seasons. She was fired (over her friggin hair cut) but grossly unhappy. So IF she stayed another 2 years, I bet she would've left when Luke left too.

These were the endings we deserved.
