As for AU stuff-

I think a super cool side spin to the Drangon!AU would be if IK became the world's first dragon rider, like a HTTYD situation !

I think about the transition from "small weakling human" to "precious baby child" all the time, so I feel like the process of them learning about each other (the brothers + IK) in the sense of being in tune while flying is so sweet,,, like, they all obviously have different flying styles, and I'd imagine that Satan, Levi, and Belphie can't even fly at *all*, so getting accustomed to the ways they operate was probably pretty tough but SO cool for IK yknow

And on the flip side it was probably a struggle for the brothers to learn to trust her cues when training or even actively fighting something when they're so used to being independent, but they have to realize that she's not trying to control them, but work as one essentially

Idk, they just make me so happy!!!!! I love dragons!!!!!!

Any thoughts on maybe who enjoys flying/riding with her the most/who has the easiest time adapting to her cues? or any other misc thoughts, up to you!!

oooooooh humans becoming so close to their creature companions that all their movements are in sync is something so dear to me

i reckon mammon (who is nearly always ik's first friend, no matter what universe, and also the best flier) would be super quick to get used to giving her rides around the place, but at first it's more like just carrying a doll around because ik is clutching him stock-still in Terror the whole time

but then!! there's a moment where it just sort of clicks. i'm vaguely remembering a trick in one of the httyd movies where hiccup jumps off toothless's back, and then toothless catches him again? it'd be like that, except it happens completely by accident the first time, but then they keep doing it for fun

on the other hand lucifer would take SO long to properly sync, because he's always like I Will Do As I Think Is Best, Your Commands Are Mere Suggestions. for him i think it'd take a moment of him being in danger and needing to rely on ik, and that's where it clicks for him. he mellows out, but he keeps acting as if he marches only to the beat of his own drum, even though he is absolutely doing everything ik tells him to

in general ik would have a set of subtle but specific gestures (some of which are unique to each brother) that she uses to both communicate and instruct, and i reckon levi likes that bit the most. since he's more geared for swimming, he'd have a range of clicks and whistles designed for underwater communication, and ik learns to understand and reply - so it's like they have their own secret language

so idk if i mentioned this but i got really into gardening this year. i've wanted to grow my own vegetables ever since i was a kid and now i have a garden i can actually do it. so i went all out. i grew tomatoes and strawberries and courgettes and peppers (they didn't go so well, wrong climate) and i spent weeks digging up the bamboo that the former owners planted (top tip: NEVER PLANT FUCKING BAMBOO, IT'S THE DEVIL'S PLANT) so i would have more room to grow things and it was SO FUN going out and picking my own food straight out of the garden, being like 'hmm i kinda feel like lettuce' and then just. going and grabbing some from the garden. AMAZING!!!

anyways then i went on holiday for two weeks and my family did not really take care of my garden while i was gone (fair, not their job) and the wind trashed my plants so i kinda lost enthusiasm cos it was all wrecked, and then all my tomatoes got a disease due to irregular watering because i couldn't be bothered going out there to water them every night, and THEN it was winter. so i lost interest and now i only go out into the garden to put potato peelings in the compost bin

and i was sat here like damn, i really hope that gardening wasn't just a short-lived obsession because it's easily one of the coolest hobbies i've had and also gets me away from the Horrors, aka, screens and the internet, and also let's be real, i spent way too much money on compost and plant pots, so it'd really suck if i never do that again, especially because everyone says the first year you grow your own food it's not really helpful financially cos all the supplies cost so much, it's only when you've been doing it for a year or two and figure shit out and don't have to start from scratch that it starts saving you money. so like. it would be nice to actually reap some financial benefits of what was a very expensive hobby lmao. (i bought OVER TWO HUNDRED LITRES OF COMPOST. IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT'S REALLY NOT, ESPECIALLY WHEN MOST OF YOUR GARDEN IS PATIO SO YOU HAVE TO GROW EVERYTHING IN CONTAINERS)

ANYWAY tl;dr the switch flipped in my brain again and i spent an hour today looking up different kinds of runner bean. there's a variety called firestorm, so obviously i'm gonna have to try and grow that. and i'm mentally planning out everything i'm gonna grow and now i'm chewing on the bars of my enclosure cos i can't start growing anything until april >:( boooooo

tips for branch weaving:

test the strength of a branch by lightly squeezing the "V" together. You want it to be firm, flex a little, but not snap with light force. Remember, you're going to be putting it under tension with the warp and it'll not be fun if it snaps immediately.

you can strip the bark if you want/are able to (though some bark will be easier to strip than others). Cutting the branch while it's green (on the tree) will make stripping it easier.

I cut the edges off and sand them for a neater look, but this is personal preference.

if you know how to crochet a chain, you can make the warp set-up a little prettier (see above pictures): crochet a chain in your desired warp (I use cotton/wool blend) to match the length of the shortest branch, slightly stretching out the chain to measure and leaving generous tails at both ends. Use that number of chains to make a second one. Secure both ends to the branch, leaving the chain facing inward. Take another piece of warp thread and loop through each chain with a darning needle. Secure loose ends at each end (I use fray stop glue to make sure no knots come undone). Now you have the loops of the crochet chain to thread the warp through!

I personally like warping through the back chain loop as it looks nicer to me (the top loops lay down on the branch better). Do what feels best to you.

can't crochet? No worries! Tie one end of the string around one branch of your "V" and start looping around the outside, keeping the distance between each loop as even as possible. Note that this may not work as well on stripped branches as the wood underneath is too smooth for the string to catch. Tie off at the end when you have the number of warp threads you want.

I've been musing with the headcanon of Restoration having the chance to really go wrong or even get corrupted if tampered with. The idea of the more powerful at healing you are, the more destructive you can be; the more you learn how to close wounds the deeper you can rip them back open.

Florentius Baenius- or any powerful healer - being so careful not to lose their carefully-controlled temper because birds fall out of the sky, tree roots shake, and nearby flowers wilt when restoration is tainted with fury
