I decided Winterheart and Thorne met for the first time an unknowable long time ago, when she was Elwynn and he was “a prince.” In a bloody battlefield where she bluntly interrogated him about his arisen’s actions, all the death and fire around them — did he know that those soldiers of his that disappear after a couple of days, or die on their first, were pawns? He didn’t, but his king did.
bonus fun fact: both worlds had horses, Winnie and Thorne loved theirs respectively. Thorne’s black steed Ra’ad was basically his only friend. Winnie’s Elding was often given temporary (seemingly illusory) wings with her arisen’s magic. They both love talking about them.
