[Nicky watching Ovi make facedown water snow-angels shirtless in the fountain] Great, great look. Is that Holt? Yeah he's in the back of the crowd. Is that Nisky? I don't even remember this. It looks like you were involved in a lot of things that day. LARS! Shirtless, jeans, no shirt. HOLTS. I had no idea Lars was in it either. Tom Stand. The ol' Cup stands. [Uncontrollable laughing at a drunk, soaked Braden Holtby post-Cup stand] Look at that beard on Holts.
Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie, marveling over footage and pictures of the Georgetown Fountain Celebration that they were too drunk to remember in full.

Braden Holtby is a retired goaltender. He played for the Capitals, the Canucks, and the Stars before being forced to retire due to injuries. When he was with the Caps, he and 2 other players (Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelly) declined to visit the White House in 2018 due to the orange mans politics. Holtby is a favorite of mine as he not only talks the talk but walks it. He has been crital of countries with anti-gay laws since before 2014. He was also the LGBTQ+ ambassador for Washington while he was with the Captials. He has helped raise money for Human Rights Campaign, which is an American LGBTQ advocacy group. He broke his twitter ban during 2020 Black Lives Matter Movement to not only recognize his white privileged while urging others to speak up. He and his wife did an auction that summer where all the procedes (nearly $40,000) went to Black Lives Matter DC and The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. He is now back with the Capitals teaching/coaching and mentoring goalies and goalie prospects.
I’ve heard of his advocacy and THIS is a real man with top notch morals. He has my respect

Capitals: Having a totally normal one this fine Tuesday afternoon
The Capitals just casually dropping that Braden Holtby will be on the ice during this week’s development camp, helping goalie coach Scott Murray as a guest coach this week, and expecting me not to BURST INTO TEARS.

Completely agree RE: the pride tape. Intersectionality is everything. I keep seeing posts from fans of pics of their favorite players using pride tape in response to people saying "I wish there was a player with political beliefs I agree with." Like, of course it's great that they're showing support during pride nights but it really is only one facet. The Tkach*k fiasco is annoying too because I keep seeing people try and defend him by saying he's spoken up about inclusivity in hockey...the same inclusivity as the I in DEI that Trump hates enough to blow the country up over? Okay Lol.
I deleted the intial post just cause I didn’t want to be negative when ppl are already upset but yes, this is exactly it. Pride tape does not signify actual concrete progressive beliefs or affiliation. It just says you’re not actively afraid of rainbows. Like, Tkach*k had no issue using pride tape or saying the right words when asked to but he clearly voted for trump and genuinely likes him and his politics. Erik Johns*n used to wrap his socks in pride tape. While he was doing that, he was also donating thousands of dollars to Republican politicians who are anti gay and supported overturning Roe V. Wade.
Pride tape maybe demonstrates that you don’t actively hate gay people and it’s better than the alternative of refusing to wear anything with a rainbow because you’re that disgusted. But to me, pride tape and pride jerseys are like most corporate pride things. They’re important as signifiers that the culture is moving forward and it’s a bad sign for acceptance when they aren’t happening anymore. But someone wearing a pride jersey or using pride tape doesn’t tell you anything about how they actually see the world and whether they’re going to stand with marginalized people when the chips are down.
