im really not a fan of Rick's recent trend of recycling bits of his writing that got a good reaction the first time and acting as if that's a valid substitute for. actually bothering to write something original a second time around. It's clearly just there as a callback and nothing more.
It's "Nico's rage exploded" and "Percy's rage exploded" with the exact same paragraph formatting. It's CoTG having titles like "My Singing Makes Things Worse, and Everyone Is Totally Shocked" (reference to TLO, when Percy says he thinks his singing would cause an avalanche) or "Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever" (reference to TLO "Pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time") or any other number of near word-for-word references to the first series. It's Nico calling Percy "seaweed brain" in Un Natale Mezzosangue (when Percy says in TTC that anybody but Annabeth calling him that is a major offense). It's Nico and Will falling into Tartarus in TSATS word-for-word referencing Percy and Annabeth in House of Hades, despite it not making any sense for their characters (and otherwise being written as Percabeth 2™). It's the show making huge changes but keeping random "fan-favorite references" (mostly overusing "seaweed brain" and "wise girl" and emphasizing percabeth) only because they're popular in-jokes and considering that a faithful enough adaptation to market it heavily as such. It's lazy writing.
And it's a disservice to the series and to the audience, because it clearly shows Rick doesn't have original ideas anymore (though given all his writing is heavily derivative to begin with, it begs the question how much was original in the first place and how much he has difficulty when he doesn't have a structured mythological plot to work from) and that there is an expectation that the audience will just sit down and accept that behavior hook-line-and-sinker. Everything recently is clearly such lip-service to the audience, either in retcons that are overt speaking-to-camera acknowledgements of things he's been criticized on or wink-wink-nudge-nudges of community in-jokes that have no business in the actual text (see: over-use of ship names in canon). Especially since Rick tends to be about 5 years behind on the fandom uptake. It's just so disappointing to see.

I've started playing Potion Permit, and so far it's one of my favorite games I've messed around with, but the most big brained move the devs made was giving you a dog on day 1, and then making that dog able to track NPCs and lead you directly to them no matter where they are in the town.
#im still early game but i like the play and the writing is passable#like#Theres a flatness#the characters Are distinct but theyre mostly just their jobs#with only a few who stand out and have like. something to really grab onto#Like rue? rues entire deal is little girl you can date. Nothing else behind those eyes. She has nothing better to talk to you about#than the fact her favorite color is red#Sorcelia? Sorcelia is a goth nun who loves singing and teaches one of the village children#Reynerd? sure is a guy#got nothing else to say about him. hes just a Guy™. Victor? Has ghost friends and loves bugs and cares deeply about the cemetery#he tends to. At the moment it feels like they're trying to imply there aren't actually ghosts. and hes just talking to himself/#insisting his imaginary friends are real people#and so far? The games been cool about it. Victor's a member of his community and his eccentricities are accepted and not ridiculed#all four characters ive mentioned are romance candidates. but its just as hit or miss with the regular towns folk#Opalheart is an older woman and a world renowned blacksmith who only takes jobs if they will do Good. regardless of whether or not they#pay well. She declines to make a dagger for a rich man but makes a helmet for a childs father bc the girl asked#and olive is here#anyways you can be best friends with a cat (shes just a regular cat) and i appreciate that#idk im putting it above sun haven in my ranking of life sim games#purely because there are older romance candidates.#no fat romance candidates. but sun haven doesn't have thise either.#and sdv has neither fat or old candidates Nor can you fuck a cat boy. it goes at the bottom.#gameplay wise sunhaven is at the bottom then sdv then potion permit at the top. sunhaven has the Most™ but having#a lot of crap doesn't mean its fun and it ends up making half the game feel really incomplete#idk. running """joke""" of peter threatening to send neal back to prison is OVER. clear as day in my mind i can invision this instead. peter, believing neal to be 35 in s1 (a full decade older than he actually was), has a conspiracy corkboard in his basement (why don't the burkes have a basement?) full of his 'evidence' of how neal and mozzie were the ones behind the isabella stewart gardner museum heist. here is the police sketch of the suspects so you can see where peter is coming from with this:
neal thinks this is hilarious. he's flattered, honestly. no one in the fbi is seriously investigating this, this is peter's passion project. he thinks neal was like 17 (the robbery was in 1990 btw) and that he was mozzie's apprentice or something. he thinks the thieves making sure the security guards taped up in the basement weren't uncomfortable and even chatting with them SCREAMS neal&mozzie shenanigans. this mystery of the ages heist that changed museum robbery forever is exactly the kind of bullshit neal and mozzie used to get up to.
but all good things must come to an end... at some point when peter is in his distrusting neal part of his friendship cycle he is REALLY leaning into this. tbh with neal's history he is getting a little worried that a court could be convinced of peter's tale. he has to break it to him.
peter has neal captive at the kitchen table, going over his "timeline of events" for the billionth time until neal is like "ok peter.... i have a confession to make." peter's expression at this can best be described as !!! "when the isabella stewart gardner museum was robbed in march 1990 i was..." peter is on the Edge Of His Fucking Seat "...five years old. i genuinely am stunned that you really believed that i'm 35. i was born in 1984. i literally did not even meet mozzie until like 6 months before i met YOU."
peter is fucking floored. his life is a lie. he put neal, a fucking baby? in jail? the implications this has for his five other caffrey-spiracy boards are far reaching and beyond what he can try to understand right now. he has been trying to pin the most infamous art crime of the last century on neal for years and his alibi is that he was in kindergarten.

OH MY GOD A YEAR AGO TODAY .
#thats literally insane what do you mean that crazy day was last year. oh boy ok hastily thought up recap thought time#what that day included:#stupidly going out into july in los angeles heat that morning in jeans and a long sleeve black shirt#in that state of extreme sweatiness: meeting john l of tmbg fame. who id be seeing in concert that exact night#an insane story i have told before but nonetheless incredibly bonkers#later that day when i went out again i (also stupidly) wore sandals that cut up the back of my heels#i toughed it out later and put socks on and the russell brand of cdg high tops on and danced at the concert anyway#wore a full gold glitter suit. was still worried about being unnoticeable#i was too scareddddddd to talk to christi who i saw hanging around before the show which i regret#the best part of the concert and that trip to california was seeing it with my best friend who i finally met in person for that trip#he was dressed as ron and i of course was russ in the glitter suit. my hair did not turn out as magically russ as desired#what else. i was too ough before the concert to eat my combination lunch dinner of panda express something#but i did get overpriced fancy crackers and rosé at the hbowl which was my sparks dinner#ok now let me get to the show itself. i did a review the night of but lets see if there are any details i forgot that i can remember now#like right at the beginning of so may we start there was the audible sound of a glass breaking so awesome. someone was ready to get down#russell getting choked up talking abt their mom taking them to the hollywood bowl as kids i haven't stopped crying#oh yeah all the stupid people in the pool circle (front seats) who didn't care about seeing sparks. youre all going to hell#especially the people that left before the show ended#russell achieved some maximum awooga levels but i may have been picking up on those especially because of the rosé#russell saying to the audience in between singing all that how beautiful it looked with everyone turning the light on their phones#another thing i havent stopped crying over#also got a fun bootleg shirt specific to that show when walking back to the hotel. thank you slightly sketchy guy#that whole night and everything was bonkers insane and wonderful can i Please relive it now. please#like literally this time last year adjusting for time zone i was uhhhhh. probably injuring myself in those stupid sandals#and id do it again! well maybe not but id relive that day again#ok anyway. one year huh

Can't wait to be a mom someday
#tradlife#tradwife#tradblr#catholic#traditional gender roles#slow living#homemaker#homemaking#cozy aesthetic#cozycore#cottagecore#talked with my boyfriend about getting engaged the other day#he wants to wait a bit until hes closer to finishing up with the military and me finishing up my masters#he said he was a little envious of a colleague who brought in their little kid into work#not in like a bad way but in a 'aw i want one' sort of way#we've talked about being parents and how great our little family would be and how well we could share what we know#we're both unique and he can help with sports and outside work and i can teach them music and cooking and homemaking#and he joked he can teach the boys how to make edible food lol#which i said no one is escaping the kitchen. everyone is going to at least know the basics of cooking because its a skill#and maybe our future boys will need to help their wives someday or at least when they're bachelors#but i cant wait#i am a professional violinist and music teacher so when i say i can teach them music im quite serious#im going into violin/viola performance for my masters#and i could sing professionally but im fine with just cantoring for church#they appreciate it#i have to wait at least two years to get married to finish my masters but i am really looking forward to having a family#maybe we can have a family right away too#thats be nice#just really looking forward to the future#just gotta make it through grad school

Okay so there's a post in my drafts about how some TBK characters could sound like based on the brief descriptions of their voices and/or speech patterns that are given in the book and honestly I don't think I'll ever post it but I want it to be known that said post was prompted by the funniest realization Saint Paul on the road to Damascus style I've ever had.
I'm one of those people who have an inner monologue, which also means everything I read I read in my own voice, and I was going over Rakitin's lines and damn, my voice fits him incredibly well. Since his voice is briefly described as deep and booming when talking to Grushenka at her place (which is how my realization came to be as sometimes I am bitchy like that with my friends, sue me) yeah, my deep ass bass-baritone voice is a close match, so in my mind Rakitin sounds like me and it's the funniest thing ever since his personality and my own couldn't be more different.
#me reading Rakitin's lines in my own voice: I Would Not Fucking Say That#I know I said I'd like to play Dmitri someday but someone please cast me as Rakitin in an audio drama it'd be so much fun#for reference the most “pop”/well known bass-baritone I can think of is Samuel Ramey who voiced The Beast from Over the Garden Wall#he's more on the deeper end of the bass-baritone spectrum therefore usually sings bass#I tend to stick with the lower notes as well as I'm more physically comfortable with those both when singing and speaking#sometimes singing baritone has me fighting for my life on the mic tbh#also I don't go there but I've been told I sound kinda similar to Vox from Hazbin Hotel lmao#personally I'd describe my voice as a weird mix of Ian Curtis from Joy Division and Sebastian Murphy from Viagra Boys#which results in something similar to Tom Waits if his voice sounded a little deeper and younger and less like an alcoholic's I guess#mine
