The Ukrainian Life Saving Center published footage of the evacuation of people after the russian chemical attack on Ukrainian territory.
just look at the condition of these victims. I can't imagine what they feel, and what a terrible pain it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
unfortunately, the world leaders, who once guaranteed Ukraine complete protection, are trying to turn a blind eye to the fact that the russians are once again violating all international human and environmental laws.
I don't get tired of reminding and asking each of you not to stop supporting Ukrainians, spreading information about the russian war in Ukraine and not tolerating everything russian to show criminal russia and world leaders that you do not tolerate russian terrorism, its culture and products!

At the beginning of the war, I migrated to Kyiv region from Kyiv city. There I heard (probably Chechens') weapons shooting every day and every night. If two important bridges were not destroyed by Ukrainian militarizes (it was necessary to NOT let r*ssian murderers move further), me and my family could be killed by those awful terrorists.
Behind my back, people had been dying until all the region and city were finally freed. I slept peacefully while innocent citizens from many regions of the country (including CHILDREN and TEENAGERS) died at the hands of these bastards.
I still can die in any moment. Everyone in Ukraine can die in a few minutes. I know Tumbler is full of American, Australian, British, European and Chinese users. Trust us and believe in us. We are people, who have been crying for help for centuries. We were wasted and almost yielded. We were r*ssified for generations and terrorized by communists from r*ssia, they kept and keep many countries under control and in fear. They threaten the Baltic countries, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Poland and even Finland. Remember what happened to Finland when the US and Britain refused to help them in the Finnish war: the Finns were forced to give a tenth of the country to a bastard named Stalin. Have a look at Moldova! The separatist region "Transnistria" was formed there. They eat p*tin's gas, BUT Moldova has to pay (so yeah, there is no separate state, it is just a scam and separatism). Northern Kazakhstan also causes unrest in the people due to the risk of separatism. Look what they did to Georgia! I have a Georgian neighbor, she suffered this with her family from monsters from r*ssia. r*ssians are directly involved in all eastern wars, crises in Africa, and enough separatist regions are caused by them.
Now, we will not be keeping silence and the terrorists cannot keep our mouths shut anymore. Do not let Ukraine yield. If Ukraine loses the war, r*ssian cattle will start wars in other European countries. Stop being polite, tolerant and respectful to those, who hate you. I understand r*ssian language very good, and I often see what kind of shit they spread about US, UK, Europe and even China. "Stupid capitalistic Americans who will be destroyed by their duce", "Anglo-Saxons" (YES, they call ye, my British pals, ANGLO-SAXONS), "ever freezing poor stinky Europe" and "ching cheng kan chi hahaha stupid Chinese" - that is what they think about ye all. But I still see pure idiots from these very states, which still tolerate "good brutal beautiful r*ssians".
I beg you, foreigners, come to your senses.
Wanna see how Russians hunted civilian cars in Kyiv region in March 2022?
Surreal now that it was all happening some 15 km from where I lived and I followed the local chats crying that "People, don't evacuate by the road leading to Zhytomyrska highway! Russians are hiding among trees off road there and shooting down civilian cars!!" in real time - and now I can actually see it happening on recovered footage from street cameras. Surreal.

Hm. I've chosen a difficult and controversial topic for my musings today, but given recent developments as well as the ask sitting in my inbox, I felt like I had to address it somehow even if I'm not entirely confident in my own stance on the topic, which is - "cancelling" celebrities, or more specifically, theatre actors, for their beliefs.
US elections in particular often lead to unexpected surprises, the most recent being Zachar* Lev* and N*cole Sch*rzinger as Tr*mp supporters, joining other former Broadway favourites like Laura O*nes and Carrie M*nolakos. This isn't a purely American phenomenon, of course, and also extends to the creators and producers. Cammack's transphobic remarks regarding Mary Poppins casting made headlines, and ALW's and Anton Kruglov's political affiliations are no secret.
Now what? Should everyone boycott their shows? Harrass them on social media and demand replacements? Never see any ALW musical ever again?
Personally, I find backlash important. The people in question should know that their actions have consequences - if they support someone trying to take away fundamental rights, healthcare etc from millions of people, they must be able to face a loss of support themselves, and the outrage by their former supporters. HOWEVER - that's usually not what I do. I'm more of a "quiet quitter". If I deem the accusations realistic enough or the evidence sufficient, I simply unfollow them and try to avoid them wherever possible. I stop talking about and recommending shows featuring them to others. I make peace with myself and look towards other performers instead, but if I am confronted with them, I try to focus on the character instead of the actor. After all, I liked their performance before their personality crept in, and it's not worth any less because of it. Ripley's Diana is phenomenal. K*lpakov's Caramon is interesting and emphatic. I won't throw a tantrum if I can't avoid them, but not having to see them at all would be ideal.
The problem is that this is feasible for performers, but not for creators and composers, and that's where it gets tricky. When I'm not forced to actually see the people in question, I catch myself ignoring the problems rather selfishly. The thing is, I'm not strong enough to swear off Cammack's shows. Les Mis, Phantom, Mary Poppins... yes, Weinstein produced Finding Neverland... damn, I certainly can't let go of Last Trial because of the composer. And what about Landestheater Linz using AI for all of their show artwork? I find it disgusting, but would I stop seeing show there if I lived nearby? Nope.
As I said, I haven't found a satisfactory way of dealing with it. But I find it very important to realise that nobody is morally perfect, and if you search long enough, you'll always find something disgusting to uncover. If you look for flaws everywhere, if what you watch has to match your worldview 100% all the time, there will be very little left for you to enjoy. Don't expect everyone and everything to be flawless until proven otherwise in the first place. Where your own tolerance ends is yours to decide, though.
For some artists (broad category), my tolerance has ended, and I recognise that I am still engaging with shows others would deem impossible to watch, heck, I'm well aware that my interest in Russian shows is seen as a taboo by many, but do not be fooled into thinking that I'm supporting everything uncritically and everything I post should be seen as an endorsement. Absolutely not the case. I'm not naive.
I'm at the end of my post and don't really remember where I meant to go when I started writing it, but tl&dr, Emerald is aware of goings-on in the theatre world and capable of engaging with things critically.

як доросла людина, я усвідомлюю, що це кумедна і люта шиза (це відповіді на твіттері? бо я там не сидів ніколи, вибачєйте ґазду), та після скріну у мене все ригає in any way.)))
btw, every time I see a freepalestiner (the first one user from the pic) I automatically diagnose em as mentally sick and uneducated, why does the person have to perceive sheeple's bleat?

You may ask what this person did to get these kind of messages. Well, they asked Japanese mascot account to not use russian social media that is controlled by russian government. I repeat, people tell them to kill themselves because they asked to not use and promote website that is supported by russian ruling government.

Eurovision is about different countries' broadcasters coming together to bring the world together through music. The voting can be political, but the contest itself isn't. Russian broadcasters breached member obligations; Israel's didn't. Simple as that.

Boycott Eurovision 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 Free Palestine. Right at this moment, Israel is attacking Rafah. Boycott is more important this year than ever.
And I survived another Russian attack today at morning, so what? 🤨
I watch eurovision for fun, not for politics. So I'm sorry dear, but stop involve politics into a music contest. Israel won't win this year anyway

The Russian rapper Vacio (Nikolai Vasiliev) has been arrested and sentenced to 15 days in jail, he reported on Friday, just two days after he attended a party with an ‘almost naked’ dress code, where he was photographed wearing only socks on his feet and penis.
“I don’t give a fuck I’ll work out and read some books hahaha peace everyone,” the rapper wrote on Telegram.
According to the Telegram channel Shot, Vacio was charged with disorderly conduct for his appearance at the party. The channel also reported that Vacio was fined 200,000 rubles for spreading “LGBT propaganda” through one of his music videos.
Vacio was one of many Russian pop stars and other celebrities who attended the “Almost Naked” party. The event sparked outrage from conservative pundits and activists, who have called for responses ranging from a boycott to a criminal investigation.

Eurovision 2005 - Number 30 - Потап - "петя"
youtube
Back to Ukraine.
And to Потап (Potap) - rapper, hip-hop artist, PE teacher, water polo coach, general controversialist, music producer, film director, entrepreneur and all-round renaissance man of Ukrainian entertainment.
In 2005, he was technically still a part of Вхід у змінному взутті (VuZV) who also took part in Ukraine's national final, but on this occasion he chose to go it alone. He'd already had success with the band, and I suppose, the national final was an opportunity too good to pass up to get his name out there.
The song he went with is петя (Petya). First things first. That bassline. If ever there was as a song that was almost entirely about one instrument, this has to be up there. The bass slaps you about the head from the start and continues to funk to itself throughout - this song doesn't even need the rap. I'm trying to work out where it's sampled from or if it's actually not a sample at all. Whatever - woof. It's so good.
The rap, for which I don't have lyrics, has confidence and flow. It uses that bassline for its own syncopation, phrasing and metrical sure-footedness. The choruses are filled comedic bom-bom-boms. Even though this has no video, live performance or lyrics I can find, it feels akin to the Beastie Boys in its attitude and approach. Please, please correct me if I'm utterly wrong.
It finished last in its heat, so clearly this was not chiming with contemporary Ukrainian sentiments. I don't think it's got any political meanings buried deep inside, but if it has I'd love to know what they are.
Shortly after this, Потап formed a musical partnership that would see him through the bulk of his musical career. NK is a Ukrainian pop singer. Together with Потап they became Potap i Nastya and instantly had a huge hit with Ne Para - as of today the music video has over 49 million views on YouTube. For the next ten years, they became huge across Ukraine, Russia and farther afield. They won awards in many former Soviet countries. Потап set up his own studio and label - MOZGI, and began managing and signing other bands too. He also performs under that name too.
The problems began in 2014 with the Russian invasion of Crimea. Together with NK, he continued to attend award ceremonies in Russia which was met with much criticism, protests and boycotts. They insisted (and continue to do so) that they love their home country - but Russian money, popularity and success was hard to let go of. He has condemned the 2022 Russian invasion and stopped performing there, but questions about his loyalties remain to this day.
Perhaps with that in mind, he has recently started writing songs in Ukrainian rather than Russian and softened his style somewhat. Both with NK (who he married in 2019) and solo, there's something far more reflective about his most recent work. Here's Mama from earlier in 2024.

Of course, I forgot some of the biggest ones.
Ploho (Showers, I think)--anything by them. Some people love bass guitar, I love bass voices, which you hardly ever hear in popular music. Molchat Doma adores them. They even made a single together.
Petlya Pristrastiya (The Loop of Addiction)--actually, my fave Russian band, because I'm more guitar-oriented and less synth/dance oriented. Favorite album: Не тот человек, which starts with Природа дарит боль, or Nature Brings Pain. The song that turned me on to them was Груз (Cargo). I don't know what it's about--drugs?--but check out the video on YouTube and see the hunky bass player, if that's your thing.
Увула (Uvula) is not as raging guitar as the others, more like Peremotka.
Boris Grebenshchikov has been making music since Soviet times, when you could go to jail for it. His last LP is all chants, so that's not a good one, but his EP from 2023 БОГРУКИНОГ - EP has at least one track I think is amazing, Незабыто.
I used to make CD compilations of my favorite music of the last few months. I have two CDs of Russian stuff if you are interested. They're free, but I would need an address to mail them to. Don't worry, I'm not a creep or a stalker. Sharing my fave tunes is my passion.
Enjoy this music! I am solidly pro-Ukrainian in the war and boycott Russian goods, but I don't boycott the arts. The arts lay the groundwork for change. I believe this music does just that. I mean, they call it Doomer music! These aren't Putin fans.
this is pretty cool! no thanks to the CDs, but these are some nice picks and i'm excited to listen to em.

Protesters waving Palestinian flags and banners on Wednesday called for a boycott of Israel at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in the Swedish city of Malmo, which will host the event next month. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) organises Eurovision and bills the song contest as a non-political event. However, in 2022, the EBU banned Russia from Eurovision after several European public broadcasters called for the country to be expelled following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The union said it suspended Russian broadcasters over “persistent breaches of membership obligations and the violation of public service values”. The organisers’ decision to include Israeli broadcaster KAN has sparked protests from artists and ministers, but the EBU said in January that Eurovision was not a contest between governments and that KAN met all competition rules. In February, more than a thousand Swedish music artists signed a petition calling for Israel to be excluded from this year’s contest.
-- "Protesters in Swedish Eurovision host city call for boycott of Israel" by Tamila Varshalomidze, Farah Najjar and Nils Adler for Al Jazeera, 10 Apr 2024 17:35 GMT

‘Devastating’ melt of Greenland, Antarctic ice sheets found (AP) The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are now losing more than three times as much ice a year as they were 30 years ago, according to a new comprehensive international study. Using 50 different satellite estimates, researchers found that Greenland’s melt has gone into hyperdrive in the last few years. Greenland’s average annual melt from 2017 to 2020 was 20% more a year than at the beginning of the decade and more than seven times higher than its annual shrinkage in the early 1990s. “This is a devastating trajectory,” said U.S. National Snow and Ice Center Deputy Lead Scientist Twila Moon, who wasn’t part of the study. “These rates of ice loss are unprecedented during modern civilization.”
Climate change is causing more ‘heat stress’ in Europe (NBC News) A new study suggests that European citizens are being exposed to increasing amounts of heat stress as climate change continues to cause extended periods of extreme weather. The study, conducted by the European Commission’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, shows that the continent experienced a record number of hot days last year, on top of record-high average temperatures for certain regions during the summer. Heat stress has become an increasingly monitored impact of climate change—experts say that increased temperatures can cause rashes, dehydration, and even heat stroke. According to the report, 2022 was the second warmest year on record for the European continent. The summer was the hottest on record, with temperatures 1.4 degrees Celsius (2.5 Fahrenheit) above average, and 0.3-0.4 degrees Celsius above the average for the summer of 2021, which itself was the hottest summer on record. These high temperatures lowered rainfall totals and sparked wildfires across the continent, even melting Alpine glaciers at higher rates. 2023’s summer is expected to be even hotter than 2022.
Palestinian Chileans in the spotlight (Foreign Policy) Last weekend, Palestinian Chilean pop star Elyanna became the first artist to perform a full set of music in Arabic at the Coachella music festival in California. Chile is thought to be home to the largest Palestinian diaspora outside the Arab world; as many as half a million people of Palestinian heritage are estimated to live in the country, where support for Palestine enjoys backing across much of the political spectrum. Chilean President Gabriel Boric delayed issuing credentials to Israel’s ambassador to Chile last year over the Israeli military killing of a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank. While he was a legislator, Boric voted to support a boycott of goods made in Israeli settlements. He has also accused Israel of genocide.
British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigns after bullying findings (Washington Post) British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigned Friday over bullying allegations, in another political embarrassment for Rishi Sunak’s government. Raab, 49, who rose to prominence when Boris Johnson was prime minister, resigned after an independent investigation and report concluded that he had bullied his staff and civil servants while serving in high office. However, he also criticized the inquiry for “setting the threshold for bullying so low.” He warned it could set a “dangerous precedent” and encourage “spurious complaints.” The move is another blow to Sunak’s government, which has been dogged by allegations of “sleaze” and impropriety after he promised to restore “integrity” when he took over as prime minister from Liz Truss in October.
Fleet of Russian spy ships has been gathering intelligence in Nordic waters (CNN) A joint investigation by public broadcasters from multiple Nordic countries has discovered something troubling in their icy waters. According to an investigation by state media from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, some 50 Russian boats have been lurking off their coasts, gathering intelligence for over 10 years. The investigation compiled data analysis, radio communications, and intelligence sources to determine whether various Russian ships in the Nordic seas were being used by the Kremlin to gather information on the countries’ military installments, critical infrastructure, and even NATO exercises. Many of the surveillance ships were disguised as civilian vessels. One Norwegian military researcher says that Russia’s surveillance fleet could be much larger than just 50 ships. “We are talking several hundred,” he estimated.
Kremlin tries to build antiwar coalition in Germany, documents show (Washington Post) When 13,000 demonstrators gathered at the Brandenburg Gate on Feb. 25 to call for an end to weapons supplies to Ukraine, the protest was led by Sahra Wagenknecht, a member of parliament for Germany’s far-left Die Linke party and a firebrand with national ambitions. Wagenknecht decried the prospect that German tanks, soon to be delivered to Ukraine, could once again be used to shoot at “Russian women and men.” “We don’t want Germany to be drawn deeper into this war,” she said, as she called for the creation of a new peace movement and condemned the bloodshed in Ukraine. Among the crowd in Berlin was Jürgen Elsässer, editor of a far-right-wing magazine, and dozens of members of the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party who cheered Wagenknecht’s calls to cut off Ukraine. The coming together of political opposites in Berlin under the banner of peace had been percolating for months, though the union remains unofficial. But marrying Germany’s extremes is an explicit Kremlin goal and was first proposed by senior officials in Moscow in early September, according to a trove of sensitive Russian documents largely dated from July to November that were obtained by a European intelligence service and reviewed by The Washington Post. The documents—details of which were broadly corroborated by officials in Western governments—show for the first time the Kremlin’s direct attempts to interfere in German politics by seeking to forge a new coalition among Wagenknecht, the far left and the AfD, as well as to support protests by extremists on the left and right against the German government.
US Visas in India (Skift) U.S. visitor visa wait times in India have gotten seriously out of hand, with the wait time hitting 669 days as of mid-March. This off-the-charts visa issuing problem recently attracted the attention of the State Department, which is trying to get that down a reasonable amount by bringing processing staff in on weekends and allowing other embassies to serve Indian nationals. It’s a big issue: At the embassy in Mumbai, as of January wait times were 999 days for an interview. As of early April, the visitor visa wait time is down to 337 days, which to be clear is still roughly 11 months but is nevertheless a considerable improvement.
Ramadan brought rare calm, familiar worries to Jerusalem’s Old City (Washington Post) There’s an energy to these Ramadan nights in Jerusalem’s Old City. As the sun sinks and color seeps from the sky, the stream of worshipers quickens, following the bright lanterns that light the way to al-Aqsa. During Islam’s most sacred month, when worshipers fast from sunrise to sunset, there are few places holier than this. For Muslims around the world, the al-Aqsa Mosque compound is the location from which the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven; for Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories, whose daily lives are often shaped by Israeli government restrictions, it is also a rare place where they can come together in large numbers and on their own terms. Ramadan is meant to be a time of sacrifice that leads to renewal and strength. But as this year’s holy month draws to a close, many in the Old City couldn’t shake a mounting unease. Recent weeks have seen Israeli police raids on worshipers at al-Aqsa and bursts of retaliatory rocket fire and militant attacks. Under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who helms the most right-wing and religiously conservative government in the country’s history, messianic Jewish activists are testing the informal rules that have long governed access to this ancient site, occupied by Israel since 1967. The Holy Esplanade, where al-Aqsa sits, is a potent symbol of religious and political identity for both Israelis and Palestinians. To Jews, it is known as the Temple Mount, where the faith’s First and Second Temples once stood; to Muslims, it is the Noble Sanctuary, the third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
Special forces swiftly evacuate US embassy staff from Sudan (AP) U.S. special operations forces carried out a precarious evacuation of the American embassy in warring Sudan on Sunday, sweeping in and out of the capital, Khartoum, with helicopters on the ground for less than an hour. No shots were fired and no major casualties were reported. With the last U.S. employee of the embassy out, Washington shuttered the U.S. mission in Khartoum indefinitely. Left behind were thousands of private American citizens remaining in the east African country. U.S. officials said it would be too dangerous to carry out a broader evacuation mission. Battles between two rival Sudanese commanders entered their ninth day Sunday, forcing continued closing of the main international airport and leaving roads out of the country in control of armed men.
The world sees invasive seaweed. This gardener sees housing bricks. (CSM) Sargassum, the invasive, sewage-scented seaweed piling up on beaches across the Caribbean, isn’t something most people look upon kindly. But for Omar de Jesús Vazquez Sánchez, his first encounter was “love at first sight.” “Everyone said, ‘It smells horrible!’ and I remember thinking, ‘There’s something more here,’” says Mr. Vazquez, the founder of Sargablock, a small company in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula that transforms the algae into construction blocks. He not only sells those blocks to construction projects, but also builds affordable housing in his community. “When sargassum started arriving, everyone was complaining,” he says, seated in the shade of his small nursery on the highway that connects tourist destinations Cancún and Tulum. He gestures to a stack of the reddish building blocks—the sargassum transformed. “I wanted to mold something good out of something everyone saw as bad.”

I am writing to you because, like many others, I firmly believe that we cannot stand by and watch while yet another catastrophe shakes the Middle East and, above all, because I do not accept that we as European citizens continue to take part in the legitimization of what has become an absolute carnage. Eurovision was established at the end of WWII as a celebration of peace through music. When Russia launched its large-scale operation on Ukrainian soil on February 24th, 2022, several countries rightly protested its presence at Eurovision and, threatening a boycott, requested the EBU to exclude the Russian representation from the competition; consequently the EBU easily (and rightfully) banned the country from participating in it. In light of the crimes committed by the Israeli government and army (crimes currently under the scrutiny of the International Court of Justice), I am confused by the EBU's decision not to ban Israel for its actions. The events of October 7th were undoubtedly tragic, and it is important that we acknowledge the pain and suffering caused by it. However, we must not allow that tragedy to justify the ongoing violence and further displacement of the Palestinian people. A suffering that Palestinians have had to endure for far too long. Bearing all this in mind, I kindly urge you to take into consideration the sentiments of numerous Europeans who are concerned about Israel's actions and, accordingly, refrain from endorsing them through its involvement in the competition. In keeping with the festival's spirit, I hope we can all come together and uphold its commitment to peace.

...Okay but the reaction to Russia and all things Russian is getting way out of hand. Y’all realise Putin does not equal all of Russia’s culture and history, right?
I mean I’m sure he’d love to be percieved as such but are you really gonna give him that?
And more importantly are you also gonna boycott all things USA, books, music, films, alla that over THEIR nonsensical wars?
