hello editblr !! ik a lot of blogs have psds uploaded to deviantart, so here's a reminder that deviantart made a public statement supporting Israel and is owned by WIX, which is an Israeli company on the BDS list.

Consider using alternative file sharing sites to relocate your psds to, such as Google Drive, Mediafire, Dropbox or Mega! (these are just ones I know of, feel free to reblog with additions!!)

I haven't really talked about this here, so:

I stand with Palestine. I can't accept the genocide happening right now. We have to raise the voices of Palestinians. I've been sharing a lot of info and resources about it on Twitter for those who use it.

That being said, I was informed Deviantart supports Israel. Now, you might wonder why I used it at all, and really, I didn't. It served as a place to archive my art and nothing else for the most part. But now, I'm seeking out a different way to store and archive my art online in an organized form. I've considered making a "clean" Tumblr blog just for my own art, but I liked having folders for specific fandoms or for my ocs. I don't know, I'm open to recommendations, but I don't want to support DA anymore. I got harassed there often anyways.

Even though Deviantart supports Israel, I'm not going to leave anytime soon. What I say there has a large audience (I have nearly 600 followers). I can use my big online presence in Deviantart to spread awareness and make more people help Palestinians. So leaving Da would be counterproductive. Many other social media platforms / websites censor and shadowban people who stand with Palestine, so should we leave the whole internet? I believe it's best to use every single social media account you have to spread awareness in order to maximize your audience, even if said social media platforms suck. We can't afford to stay silent about this!

(I won't be giving any new money to Deviantart so I can minimize the amount of profit I give to them, though.)

Currently working on building a new personal website.

I used to have a couple basic Wix.com sites that I used for my college portfolio, and after graduation served as my de-facto "main" site.

I had been meaning to retire it and replace it with something more polished for a while now (especially since taking some actual web design courses!). However, I was never motivated enough to take it down until I started looking into the BDS Movement and similar campaigns. It may not be as big a player as Hewlitt Packard, but it is still a notable company with headquarters in Tel Aviv.

So now I've finally deleted my crummy old site, and I'm setting up a new one for the new year.

I've been browsing through web-hosting services, seeing what's affordable. May install Wordpress at some point. In the meantime, I am also coding a dummy site from scratch (nothing fancy, just some html docs, a plain CSS stylesheet, and some Javascript), just so I can figure out how I want it to look.

i might stop posting on devaintart, sorry ive found some great artists on there but i just cant use a website that is siding with a country whose actively committing a GENOCIDE without feeling gross. the nft stuff and AI art stuff is already bad as is, but this just a new low.

I'm on desktop. Most of my tumblr pastimes are usually on mobile but the app I'm trying to update is whack!

Also although my deviantart is still up, it will now be mostly inactive. I will be migrating to another art site soon, and once I find that site to be really good, deleting that deviantart account.

The reason is that deviantart is under Wix.com, an israeli-run company. I guess I'm not giving it anymore traffic even though I signed up for free. I don't know the impact of being a free user there but perhaps leaving will give a small effect. Plus, they are uber supportive of AI content.

I have been eyeing Artfol. It seems the closest to a fusion of social media and art posting in general. Fingers crossed!

if you deactivate your deviantart account it gives you some options of why and if you select "other" it gives you a little field you can write in. i wrote that i was opposed to the genocide their parent company is supporting and deactivated my account. if you have an unused or currently in use deviantart account i would suggest doing this too.

IDK if this works with the current incarnation of dA and i haven't tested it myself but this article discusses and links to an open source program that can mass download a user's favorites/galleries/etc. so it might be worth a try if you want to back things up before deactivating. some people in the reviews mentioned it only grabbing the thumbnails and messing up gifs but i'm not sure if that is still a present issue since those complaints are from ten years ago LOL.

ARTISTS, STOP POSTING TO DEVIANT ART

Learned today that DeviantArt is owned by Wix, an Israeli company listed under boycott by the BDS Palestinian human rights organization.

Under Wix, who acquired DeviantArt in 2017, DV has been pushing Israeli occupation propaganda and allowing Generative Ai to completely takeover the platform and be sold on it.

It’s clear that under Wix, DeviantArt DOES NOT CARE whatsoever about the art or the artists it was originally created to cater towards. It only cares for profit.

Even if you are not well-versed on the current politics surrounding the Israeli Occupation and the erasure of Palestine for some reason, everyone can agree that Wix has changed DeviantArt for the worse and the best case scenario is that they sell it to someone who actually cares for art, not profit.

I absolutely adore to death so much of the art there, but for now I will stop posting my art there and I suggest that other artists do the same. They DO NOT DESERVE YOUR ART.

Please transition towards using alternatives like Tumblr, Insta, Twitter, and Newgrounds. Newgrounds especially is the best alternative to DeviantArt. Please suggest other alternatives as well.

This decision is made in light of DeviantArt's pro-Israel stance. We feel a clear responsibility to, standing in solidarity with all Palestinians, to boycott the platform. Starting with Cupid's Bindings, we will no longer be hosting our adoptable events on DeviantArt and will be carrying out all future operations on Toyhouse.
