idk if i believe in "miracles" per se, but the fact that my red second-hand converse that i bought for 20 bucks back in 2016 (and were already Pretty worn looking when i got them) haven't fallen apart yet and are, at worst, sorta faded (the red part) with yellowed soles is. well, it's Something.

#ive had newer shoes (right out the box new) fall apart on me sooner than these #are converse even that high quality? like theyre converse #i had some converse high tops in high school and the soles literally fell off one day. and those werent even 3 years old #what did they put in these shoes? i love them so much! i didnt even pay full price!#rambles

Last May, I had done some research as I was starting to dip my toe into doll collecting and knew that Rainbow High was one of the most popular current brands. I didn’t really like their style at first, I couldn’t get over what I felt were their ‘bug eyes’, (I still really dislike the classic face sculpt) but I went on the MGA website and scrolled through the listings to see more of them, just to see if I liked any of them. I did think some of them were okay, but not enough to go out and put myself through the anxiety of buying them.

And that’s when I saw her.

I wouldn’t be collecting dolls if I didn’t see Glitch and fall in love with her. Monster High didn’t have enough of a grip to really pull me in to the hobby on its own, and I wasn’t clicking with other RH dolls through photos.

But Glitch had something. Some combination of hair and dress and style that added up to a vibe which floored me in her stock photos. I didn’t know dolls could look like her, feel like her.

Soooo I went to target. Rehearsed my speech that I was looking for a gift for my non-existent niece if anyone confronted me for being in the toy section (took me months to get over that anxiety).

And I came home with three of them.

I was so thrilled and relieved to find Glitch in person, so I stayed long enough to look around at the others. I just couldn’t stop looking at Harley, and when I spotted Michelle on the top shelf I immediately thought “oh my god, that color is so striking”, and couldn’t stop thinking it. So I walked out with all three. 😅

I love looking at their crunchy box hair in this photo. I wouldn’t wash doll hair for the first time until August. August! I was too afraid I would ruin them somehow. Plus I didn’t and hadn’t owned any comb or hairbrush or even conditioner since I started shaving my head like four years ago, so I had to buy those things just for my dolls.

Maybe I would’ve found something else, some other doll line or brand that spoke to me, and I would’ve ended up collecting either way. But that moment I spotted Glitch feels so pivotal in hindsight. And even with a lot of my dolls packed up since I have so little display space, all three of these girls are out and beautiful! I just love lookin at ‘em. Which I guess is the whole point.

I have these GORGEOUS shoes I’m planning on wearing to graduation tomorrow but the thing is I’m autistic and they’re sensory hell, so I’m forcing myself to do exposure therapy and “practicing” wearing these shoes for the main event tomorrow

#I’m sitting on my bed with them on trying to get myself used to the feeling of the shoes squeezing my feet #they fit and everything. I’m just used to my doc martens which fit very loosely and have a wide toe box thing #these are chunky mary jane high heels #so they obviously squeeze my feet more than I’m used to #I also ALWAYS have to wear socks but I can’t wear socks with these shoes so I’m practicing not wearing socks #I think practicing not wearing socks is the most autistic sentence I’ve ever said #actually autistic #autism

#additional considerations: both are final sale and im confident i know my size in the plaid boot style but not quite as much for the other #otoh i would be replacing/supplementing my current walked-through hiking boots so maybe i want something more similar to them #also i need to have shoes that are not super high maintenance/i will not feel too stressed about fucking up to wear places #and that will stand a decent amount of walking if i am actually using the regularly which maybe also indicates the hiking boot?#i could honestly afford both they're on a good sale but i dont like need both.... but i can't decide which i like better #i am really charmed by the plaid and maybe a little less by the paisleyfloral but the hiking boot shape is more like what i usually like #box opener

I made a whole bunch of new pins, now they just need to dry so I can glue safety pins on the back and they're done! I usually use prints scavenged from old art book, but this time I just printed stuff out

#weve got some art that i like aswell as the manuc street preachers and nina simone #aegon and aemond obviously #and i just thought it would be funny to do the modern photo of them #i used a slightly different method than usual where i wrapped the ends of the paper around and glued them in the back cause ive had problems #with the layers of cardboard coming apart #theyre just paperboard from a box of truleys stacked and glued with an image glued on the front and a safety pin on the back #when i was in high school i used to put band logos or song lyrics on them #and i just trace bottls caps and other things to get the shapes #the smaller rectangle was actually traced from a salt packet #crafts #diy #diy projects #and i actually sealed these ones with a spray normally i just used modpodge which works fine but it does mean they arent waterproof #these ones wont be ruined in its raining outside #which is nice #i cant find my hot glue gun though so i might end up using shoe glue instead
