New Orleans Trip 2024
Hello! I finally have time to post about my incredible vacation to New Orleans I was able to have. It was a week long and that week wasn’t long enough! New Orleans is truly magical and full of history and culture (and ghosts!) and I miss it so much. From the food to the weather to the music, New Orleans is more than I could have ever imagined and I was able to visit it with my friends! @dreamofme9 and @amc-iwtv joined me on this dream of a vacation and we saw so much. Too much. I’ve been able to make a few collages full of our moments and all the experiences we had!
From walking the streets of New Orleans to taking the streetcar, we never stopped. There was just too much to take in! I could list every single place but I would much rather just share these photos and memories that I will forever hold close to my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as alive as I did during this week I spent with my beautiful friends. I’m blessed and I know it.
You may click on the photos to enlarge them. They hardly capture the true spirit of the city but they are gorgeous, and that’s enough for me to share all the places I went to and all the food that I ate! All the drinks that I drank! Amazing!

I need to go back. I will go back. My life wasn’t complete until I set foot in New Orleans and a piece of my heart remains there now, forever.

Boutique du Vampyre, 709 1/2 St. Ann, New Orleans (French Quarter), LA 70116
Tumblr media
The French Quarter seems to be where vampires like to hang out and it also attracts vampires from around the world as well as mortals who are into vampires. The Boutique du Vampyre opened in 2003 and might be the only vampire shop in the world? I saw a picture of Rebecca Mikaelson of The Originals shopping at the Boutique du Vampyre but did not see any merchandise from The Originals.
Vampires inspired much of the merchandise in the shop. Many items are made by local artists. The shop offers custom fans, candles, jewelry, colored contact lenses, dolls, wooden stakes, bottled spirits, coffin shaped purses, books, posters, t-shirts, and artwork. There were a lot of bat-shaped things like leather bats you can add to your boots and bottle necklaces that hold “blood” or vervain. The shrunken heads were interesting ($250 for a museum quality replica). They also had Dracula posters signed by a descendant of Bram Stoker.
My pick:
Coffin earrings with bat shapes, $30, made by a local artist
The shop is small but pleasantly dark and cool inside. The Boutique du Vampyre owner also owns the New Orleans Vampire Café and The Vampire Apothecary. The Vampire Café is next to the Boutique and sells blood bags.
5 out of 5 stars

Human!Alastor x wife!Reader
Themes: 1930 based! Human!Alastor x wife!Reader, domestic life! fluff, smut, devotion, slight manipulation, mention of children, pregnancy,  blood, murder, secrets
In this chapter: slow build up! Smut! Love-making, Creampie, slight breeding kink
this chapter is VERY long!!!
Chapter one Chapter three
Chapter two
The sound of voices filled your home as the ladies chatted in your parlor.
“Oh honey is that peach cobbler? Why you would think it was Sunday with the spread you made.” Agnise said as you came from the kitchen with the dish and placed it on the dessert table, causing all the ladies to turn to you.
You had finger sandwiches filled with ham, beignets, one too many cakes, banana pudding, sweet tea and lemonade.
You were in a baking mood and since it was just high noon, you kept it lite for today’s meeting.
You let out a laugh “oh it was nothin’. Thought we deserved a treat since the last time we saw each other. We housewives deserve a little sugar sometimes.” The ladies giggled at your comment.
Grabbing a sandwich, you took a seat by Rosie, “Now what were y’all talking about while i was in the kitchen?”
”Abi was telling us the Smiths youngest was found in bed with that scrappy gent that worked down at the mill” Rosie said, sipping her tea. You gasped, hand over your heart “Ain’t that girl engaged to um oh what that boy’s name?” You snapped your fingers trying to think
”David Johnson” Abigail snickered “Just know Old smith threw a fit. I heard her mother went crying to the church shouting. Ooooh must have been real bad”
Agnise chimed in “Also Harriet told me that Elaine is expecting…and it ain’t her husband’s” shocked gasps filled the room. “Elaine? As in love the church, has three youngins Elaine? Oh that poor woman I don’t know how she do it” Rosie shuddered. Abigail smirked “Yeah poor Elaine, so who’s the father?”
Agnise chuckled “Take a guess”
Literally you, Rosie, and Abigail looked to each other puzzled.
”Pastor Brown from the next town over”  Agnise said.
squeals and laughs erupted from all of you.
You shook with laughter as you took a deep breathe. “Ok ok enough of that. How have y’all been?”
Rosie was running a boutique, New Orleans finest clothes and it was really taking off. She talked about how some cheap fabrics came in and she ain’t have a clue what to do with them.
Agnise happily chirped about how her two oldest had got accepted in some fancy school on the other of town.
Abigail complained that she thought the maid was stealing her clothes, claiming too many of her fine dresses were missing out of her closet.
”Oh dear how is that handsome husband of yours? I was hoping to the man when I was coming in.” Rosie said smiling.
Rosie and Alastor were the closest besides Mimzy. He often dropped by to have her make your clothes and tailor some of his suits.
”Oh you know how Alastor is” you waved your hand, “he set out early this morning to the radio station. We’re suppose to down to Mimzy’s club tonight”
Agnise and Abigail looked at you shocked “That ol rigity joint? Oh darling no. That man makes good money, why y’all going down there?”
You had met Agnise and Abigail when you were in school.  They were a bit more Polish than Rosie who didn’t mind a good time.
”I think that lounge is rather charming. The music is good.” You defended.
”Well enjoy it now, I had a dream bout fishes and you know what that mean” Agnise said, giving you a knowing look.
You blinked, then blushed, taking a sip of tea. “I don’t know what you’re talking about” you feigned dumb.
She smirked, red lips curling “You’ve been hiding news from us haven’t you?”
Abigail looked at you, “Are you?”her honey eyes roamed over your figure.
”Ladies no! I’ve told y’all me and Alastor haven’t discussed children. We don’t have time for that” you said pouting at their accusations.
”What man don’t want his own running around? The two of you been married for a few years now, i had half expected at least something.” Agnise said.
”Alastor has just settled in good as radio host. What kind of wife would I be if I just randomly suggested having a little one running around? No I couldn’t.” You gripped your cup, looking down.
You and Alastor hadn’t really discussed children. You figured you would wait a few years to get settled into your marriage before thinking of children.
With alastor’s career taking off, you didn’t have it in you to just spring the notion on him.
You didn’t mind. It was quite nice not having to clean and look after a baby.
BUT
You did want to potentially have children with Alastor.
The house would be a lot livier and you thought Alastor would make a great father.
”Y’all ain’t getting any younger dear!” Agnise said “i mean unless there’s a another woman invovled”
Rosie let out a hiss, glaring at the woman “Oh shush that! Alastor wouldn’t do that! He loves his wife too much to even look at another woman”
Agnise shrugged.
Abigail patted your hand “Honey don’t listen to her. I am sure you’ll have a whole litter running around afterwhile. Not having children ain’t all that grand.”
You pouted. That did not make you feel better.
Rosie seeemd to pick on up your down mood and interjected
”We came to discuss books! Enough of this husband and children talk! So we left off at Charles securing the mistress!”
The little gathering went on without a problem, but the comments and conversation still bounced in your head.
Alastor wouldn’t seek out another woman just because I haven’t…right?
You and Alastor’s intimate life was fine to your knowledge.
The man wasn’t the most affectionate, but he did try.
He was loving and gave you anything you wanted.
THATS what any wife wanted right?
Not having children didn’t seem to make him any less doting with you.
But you still felt that nagging doubt as you tried to reassure yourself.
”Bye now! Tell Nathaniel I said hello and Abi please just see if the maid took your dress!”you hollered from your porch, waving the ladies as they smiled and walked down the street.
You sighed. Rosie had stayed behind and was cleaning up.
”oh Rosie you’re a guest please let me” you said grabbing the dirty dishes.
”I’ve been here so much this is practically my home girl please.”she laughed as she grabbed the tablecloth and put in in the hamper.
”Those two are certainly a handful. Don’t take what they said to heart. They are just bitter their husbands don’t love on them like yours” she chided.
You hummed. Rosie was right. What did it matter that you didn’t have kids? That didn’t change anything.
”I know Ro but I feel like I’m failing as a wife. But i promise I’m fine I swear” you quickly said as she gave you a look.
She looked at the clock “Oh my well look at the time! Do give Alastor my love dear”
You gave her a hug and walked her out, waving her goodbye as she waltzed down the road.
You were now alone.
The house was quiet and you had cleaned up everything so you wouldn’t have to look at the mess in the morning.
You rolled your shoulders, sighing at the tension and decided a quick nap wouldn’t hurt as you wait for Alastor to come home.
—————————————————————————————————
The sun began to slowly set through the trees as Alastor ran a bloody hand through his hair, the brown strands slicking back as he breathed deeply. The man had put up quite a fight, but luckily Alastor could quickly deal with his little problem.
He had planned to take his wife out for tonight, but with the way he was feeling, he would rather be in your embrace and sleep.
He would stop and get you your favorite flowers as an apology and maybe cook for you instead. A soft smile appeared on his face as he imagined your face as he came in with flowers and kissed your soft lips as he propose hell cook for dinner.
Soft jazz would be playing and after the meal he would ask you to dance. Peppering your face in kisses as you laughed at him, thinking he was silly.
And maybe afterwards, he could indulge himself in you. A shiver ran through his body at the thought of your face contorted in pleasure.
Oh yes he was sure you wouldn’t mind why he came home late
He hid away his shovel in an old storage house and changed clothes.
Getting in his car, he hummed along to the radio as he thought of what to make for dinner.
—————————————————————————————————-
Alastor softly closed the back door as he slowly set down the flowers and groceries. He peeked his head in the parlor and found you sleeping on the couch.
He quickly made his way upstairs, hid his clothes in the back of your closet, showered, and went back down stairs.
He grabbed the flowers and slowly slid beside you, pulling you into his lap.
You snuggled into his neck, eyebrows scrunching, waking up ”hmmm Alastor?” you groaned as he snickered. He pressed his lips to your plump cheek “Seems my darling wife had a very long day. Seems I got caught up at work and didn’t catch the time. But…” he pressed the flowers to your nose as you took a deep inhale of the flowers, smiling “I do hope you would forgive dear.”
Your heart fluttered at the man, standing to put the bouquet in a vase.
You caught sight of the time and gasped “oh no! I can’t believe I fell asleep for that long, lord on high I ain’t got a single thing out to cook.” You went to make your way to the kitchen, but Alastor was quick to wrap his arm around you, pulling you into his lanky frame. “Don’t you worry about dinner darlin’ I got it. I had promised you a night out and forgot. So to pay for my offense Ill cook dinner and why don’t you go upstairs and put on something pretty  for me hmm?” He pressed a few soft kisses along the column of your neck, making your breath hitch slightly, before patting your ass to get you moving towards the stairs.
Once you made it back downstairs, the smell of dinner made your stomach growl.
Alastor was just setting th plates as you entered the kitchen. “Book club must have been something today, I see you baked a lot of goods today. Good thing I checked before thinking of making dessert” He turned to actually look at you.
Gorgeous is what he thought as he took you in.
You opted for a simple slip dress that fell just before your knees. How enticing.
You accessorized with your pearls and even had your hair curled slightly.
He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around your waist and bring a hand to his lips, kissing it as he looked at you with utter devotion.
”My my don’t you look lovely dear” he whistled, twirling you around slowly.
You blushed and looked towards the stove “Dinner smells great Al, what did you make?” He ushered you to the dining table and pulled you chair out for you to sit before fetching tonight’s dinner.
Shrimp and grits in one bowl and jambalaya.
For dessert he took a piece of butter cake that you made earlier and chilled sweet tea and lemonade.
You moaned in delight as the flavor of the jambalaya burned your mouth. “Oh Al! You added a bit more spice this time but it goes good with the grits. oh i love your jambalaya.” You praised him.
You practically danced in your seat as you ate causing Alastor to chuckle.
”I never tire of your praise for my mother’s recipe my dear. I must say this cake might just be my new favorite” he said.
You decided to fill him the latest gossip you heard today from the ladies
”Rosie sends her love by the way. Oh you would not believe what Agnise told us today…” you started.
Alastor had a lazy smile on his face as you talked animatedly about todays gossip. He nodded along and even gasped at the details you shared. You made him swear he wont repeat it anywhere, including on the radio.
You took a sip of lemonade ”Agnise made a comment that she was surprised we haven’t had kids yet. Can you believe that woman?” Alastor tilted his head “I wouldn’t put it pass that one. Well what did you say?”
Alastor asked taking in your reaction as you pouted, swirling your fork in your grits before stabbing a shrimp. You sighed “I told her that we just weren’t ready. I mean you just got settled in at the studio good. Then the nerve of that woman to say that you were probably seeing another because I wasn’t putting out.” You mumbled that part, feeling  pinges of doubt start to rise in you as you looked at him.
Alastor scoffed “darling I only ever had eyes for you” he reached across the table to grasp your hand, thumb fiddling with your wedding ring. “Nothing will make me look at you different. To me, you’re perfect. You are much more than I could ever deserve” he smiled at you. “Do you want children darlin?” He asked.
You blinked, a warm blush crept up your cheeks “I-I mean it might has crossed my mind once of twice, but I-I dont know” you looked away, feeling shy.
Alastor grinned “I think you would make a wonderful mother my dear. Through I will admit having to share you i dont know about that” he laughed “buuuuut if having children will make you happy, who am I to say no?” His voice dropped an octave as he smiled at you.
You were shocked. You hadn’t thought that Alastor would be open to having children. But you didn’t just want to have kids because of social pressure. You wanted it to be something you were sure of…
”Its a big responsibility if we have children Al”you whispered. He hummed, shrugging “Dear I make more than enough that our children will have comfortable upbringing, besides Ill be there the whole step of the way”
That reassurance made your heart swell.
You smiled, a soft laugh bubbling out of your chest “Then I guess well see what happens then huh?”
You finished dinner, Alastor leaving the dishes to soak and you giggled as he dragged you upstairs. “Alastor! Hahaha dont you have work tomorrow?” You entered your shared bedroom and squealed as he lavished your exposed shoulders in kisses.
He groaned in response as he unbuttoned his shirt as his hands gripped at your hips.
”what do that have to do with us delving into the throws of pleasures darlin? Its been quite some time since I’ve paid you proper attention.”
Your back hit the duvet as he situated himself between your thighs. Your dress bunched at your hips, exposing your lacy garter. His hand toyed with the fabric, lips curling in a smirk “Were you planing to seduce me dear?” You shook your head as you curled your arms around his neck, pulling his head to meet his lips.
”Hmmm lets keep the pearls and garter on” he grinned down at you.
”Nngh! Ah! Ah! Ha! Ah! Oh god!”you cried out as Alastor thrusted into you. Your fingers gripped at his hair as you moaned into his neck, kissing over the red bruises forming on his skin.
Fingers flexed on your thigh, keeping your leg pressed into your stomach. The only sound that filled the room were your sweet moans and his soft grunts and the slap slap of his dick burying into your cunt.
Alastor’s back muscles flexed as you raked a hand along his back, groaning as your nails left burning trails into his flesh.
”One more. You can give me one more can’t you darlin?” He asked huskily as he snapped his hips into yours.
Your body buzzed as your third orgasm approached. The pearl necklace that hung around your neck, bounced with your breasts as Alastor nipped at your neck. One of his hands crept up your chest to play with one of your nipples. Tugging and pinching the perk peak as your cunt clenched around him.
”I can’t wait to see you pregnant ma cher. All nice and round, carrying my child.”
A sharp pinch had you whining “These lovely tits of your full of milk god I can’t wait to taste it” his head shifted to your chest, his warm mouth taking the mound into his mouth. Teeth and tongue teased as his thrusts picked up pace.
”A-Al! Oh! Oh! P-Please!” You threw your head back in pleasure.
Alastor couldn’t help but let his twisted feelings take over, a hand wrapped around your throat, applying slight pressure as you whined.
He brought his face back to yours, nose brushing against yours as your swollen lips enticed him to suck and bite at them. He maneuvered both your thighs to be pressed against your stomach, giving him leverage to hammer into you soppy heat.
”You want me to give you a baby darlin? Hmm? Want me to fill the needy cunt of yours and spill my seed into you?”you moaned, eyes glazed with lust.
Alastor smirked “Use your words baby. C’mon” a harsh thrust made your toes curl.
”y-yes please please Alastor give me a baby!” You cried.
A wild look was in his eyes
“Oh ill give you all the babies you want. I’ve wanted to see you swollen with my child since our wedding day. You’ll look so pretty baby. All filled with my cum and swollen. Yeeesss what a lovely sight you’ll make”
His thumb worked tight circles on your clit as your back arched into him as your orgasm ripped through you. Alastor slammed his lips on yours to swallow the loud moan that tried to spill from your lips.
He grunted as his hips shuddered. Chasing his orgasm as he rode yours out. With a hiss, his dick twitched and soon warm cream painted your gummy walls.
With a sigh, he coaxed his tongue against yours as he gave you a few more soft thrusts.
Panting and flushed, your legs fell limp as he pulled out and smirked at the mess he had made of you.  A white stream slowly pooling out of you.
Spent and feeling the blissful afterglow, you curled into the covers, wincing at the stickiness between your thighs. Alastor pulled you into his chest, kissing your forehead “normally Ill clean you up, but since were trying no need.” He brushed a curl out of your face as you began to fall asleep
”Alastor?” You said tiredly.
He hummed, as he ran his hand up and down your arm, admiring the red bruises on your neck and shoulder
”I love you”
He grinned as you dozed off.
”I love you too dear”

Someday | E.M.
Tumblr media
Title: Someday
Requested: Yes/No
Summary: A girl and an original, sounds like a fantasy, but nothing is impossible when it comes to love.
A/N: It's been a hot minute since I posted a fic, so hopefully this is half as decent as I hope it is and you guys like it
The story of a girl and her vampire: if any outsider were to hear the story, it would sound crazy, almost like some sort of fantasy.
Shutting the door of the taxi, you stepped out into the cobblestone streets and took a deep breath.
“Finally.” You thought, having achieved your lifelong dream of moving to New Orleans.
Lugging your suitcase behind you, you searched for the address of the place you’d be staying at.
“And here is your room.” Cami, a friend from high school who’d you be staying with gestured to the guest room next to her own room.
“Thanks Cami. You’re the best!” You smiled, proceeding to give the girl a hug, “I promise I’ll move out the minute I find a more affordable apartment.”
She laughed, “Nonsense, stay here as long as you like. Anyway, I have to go back to my shift at the bar now but when I close up, we can definitely go out for dinner.”
“Sounds great! I can also help out at the bar if you want.” You offered.
“Stop.” The blonde grinned, “You are my guest and you will do no such thing. Now go and unpack.”
“Fine. Fine.” You gave in with a playful eye roll.
“Does this place do deliveries? I don’t think I want to eat anywhere else ever again.” You took a sip of water making Cami laugh.
“I’m pretty sure they do.” She said as the waiter dropped off the bill.
While Cami was searching for her wallet in her bag, you pulled out some cash and hurriedly gave it to the waiter, “Take it before she finds hers.”
Realizing what had just happened, Cami gave you a pointed look, “Y/N.”
“Cami.” You mirrored her tone, giving her the same look, “It’s on me, I swear.”
“But-” She tried to protest.
“Shh.” You interrupted, “You’re already practically giving me a place to stay, provided that I pay for my share for the water and electricity bills. Ever since I have arrived, you have been nothing but incredibly generous to me. Let me do this.”
“Fine.” Cami gave in with a roll of her eyes, “But when you go to the bar, drinks are on me.”
This made you smile, “Now who am I to turn down free drinks?”
“Who are the Mikaelsons?” You asked after Cami had told you that you should come along to a party they were hosting that night.
“They’re the most influential family in Orleans.” She said, ruffling through her closet in search of something to wear, “The Mikaelsons are practically like royalty.”
You raised a brow in question, “So, they’re pretentious?”
“Not all of them.” Cami smiled, “Klaus is a little though, but the rest of them aren’t so.”
Laughing, you said, “Can’t wait to meet them. I don’t have a dress though.”
“There’s a boutique down the corner.” Cami said, “When can go take a look there if you want.”
Cami sure wasn’t joking when she said that the Mikaelsons were like royalty.
The compound you and Cami had just walked into was majestic and almost mansion-like. The lights that decorated the walls just seemed to make the place even bigger.
“That’s just the tip of the iceberg.” Cami said, noticing how awestruck and speechless you were.
“First thought that came into my mind was ‘you’re joking’. But, after seeing this, I think it's not entirely impossible.” You said.
“Camille! Glad to see you could make it.” A deep and husky voice boomed from the corridor as the owner approached the two of you.
“Klaus.” Your friend smiled, “Nice to see you too.”
“I see you’ve also brought a friend.” The man, or rather Klaus, mused before turning to you, “I’m sure that I’ve already been introduced by my entrance, so, may I know your name?”
“I’m Y/N.” You smiled.
“Niklaus.” A man in a suit came up next to Klaus, almost appearing out of thin air, “Are you causing someone an inconvenience again?”
Klaus dramatically gasped, now turning his attention to the man next to him, “I’m offended at how you think I bother everyone.”
“That seems to be the case, sometimes.” The man nods to Cami, “Camille.”
He then turns to you, a small smile growing on his handsome face while he reaches for your hand and brushes his lips against your knuckles, “And may I be able to put a name to that beautiful face?”
Giggling, you could feel the butterflies starting to stir, “I’m Y/N and you are?”
“Elijah.” He answered.
“So, Y/N. May I have this dance?” Elijah asked, offering a hand to you.
Glancing over at Cami, she gave a nod along with a subtle wink.
“I would love to.” You grinned, taking his hand and he led you away from your friend.
That was where it all started, with two lonely hearts beating in the dark.
“Your company has been the best I’ve had in a while.” Elijah smiled as the two of you stopped in front of Cami’s house. Cami had disappeared with Klaus leaving you to fend for yourself.
“Glad to have been of service then.” You laughed.
“Hopefully, this isn’t the last time I’ll be catching any sight of your captivating presence.” He said.
“I assure you, Elijah, you won’t be getting rid of me that easily.” You smiled.
The gentleman smiled as well, kissing along your knuckles the same way when you had first met earlier, “I’ll be counting on that.”
“I’m home!” It’s been a month since your arrival to New Orleans, finally having signed a lease for your own apartment, the only downside was the fact that you couldn’t move there for another month.
“So, how was your date?” Cami came into the living room as you were kicking off your shoes.
Rolling your eyes at her teasing, you retorted, “Cami, how many times do I have to tell you that it's’ not a date. Elijah and I just went to watch theater like friends do.”
“Yeah, friends do go to the theater but even a blind person could see how you and Elijah are a far cry from friends.” She said.
You went to the kitchen to get some water, “Touche, I can literally say the same about you and Klaus.”
Cami was immediately on your trail, “Klaus and I acknowledge our feelings. You and Elijah don’t. It seems like both of you have this intense fear of rejection. To be honest, the two of you would be a pretty amazing couple.”
“Is my crush on him that obvious?” You asked, leaning against the door of the fridge.
“Even someone who doesn’t believe in the concept of love could see it.” She confirmed, throwing a teasing smile.
“Oh my-” You groaned, “Then this means that he knows as well.”
Although Cami had been successful at holding back a laugh, a grin still appeared on her face as she fondly shook her head as a mother would, “You and him are the only people oblivious to each other’s feelings.”
“Whatever.” You felt the heat starting to take over your face, “I’m going out, we’re out of milk.”
“In the middle of the night?” Cami asked.
You started putting your shoes on, “No better time.”
For the past half hour, you couldn’t stop thinking about what your friend had said, could Elijah possibly bear the same feelings for you?
Strangely, the city sounds and the gravel crunching under your feet didn’t distract you at all. But you couldn’t shake off the strange feeling you had, almost like your gut was telling you that something is…eerie.
You could’ve sworn that someone had to be walking behind you but when you turned around, there was nothing but a gust of wind rattling the leaves.
Brushing it off as a figment of your imagination and the fact that it was almost midnight, you started on the way back home, how on earth did you think that a store would sell you some milk at this hour?
In an attempt to get rid of the chill that was running through your whole body, you tucked your hands into the pockets of your coat.
Then, under a split second, you were suddenly thrown against the wall - feeling a bit dizzy from the impact.
You kicked and tried to scratch the person but then the man holding you captive, grinned and flashed his fangs.
At first, you thought that you had gone mad. It was practically impossible for vampires to exist. Then the man’s eyes started to darken and the veins on his face became prominent as he said, “Guess I’m getting some dessert after all.”
Nothing prepared you for this moment, in school, they never exactly taught what to do in case you run across a vampire (who also happened to not actually exist in the first place).
As the sharp points of the fangs inched closer, you braced yourself for the worst, hoping that you would jolt awake in your bed and find out that this entire thing was just some nightmare.
The grip on your throat suddenly loosened as the man in front of you limply dropped to the ground.
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” The husky voice of your savior pulled you out of your shock.
“Elijah?” If you thought that the prospect of vampires being real was enough of a surprise for a lifetime, wait till you are met with Elijah Mikaelson, seemingly wiping blood off his hands as a real heart lay discarded at his side while he asked if you were okay.
“Do you want me to walk you back to Cami’s?” He asked.
“Did you just…” You started feeling dizzy, feeling completely overwhelmed with everything to be processed in the last few minutes, “pull his heart out?”
He was rendered speechless, not actually expecting that you would ask this. After a moment of silence, he answered cautiously, “Yes.”
“H-how?” You asked, not really sure if you wanted to know the answer.
Elijah looked defeated as he offered a small smile, “Let me walk you back to Cami’s and I’ll explain everything once we get there.”
In an attempt to lighten some of the tension, you asked, “Promise you won’t bite?”
Elijah laughed, “Promise.”
It’s been two weeks since you were told of the grand secret of New Orleans: that werewolves, witches and vampires not only roamed the streets but were also practically like royalty and the Mikaelsons happened to be called the “Originals” which are the very first vampires ever.
It’s also been two weeks since you had last seen Elijah Mikaelson.
After doing everything, even dropping by the compound in desperate hopes that you would actually see him - it was almost like he was avoiding you.
Okay, he was actually avoiding you.
“Hello ‘Bekah.” You grinned as the blonde greeted you with a kiss to the cheek, ‘as the French do’.
“This is exciting! We haven’t gone shopping in ages.” She asked with a mirroring smile, looping her arm around yours almost dragging you to the shopping center.
“So, if you don’t mind me asking, did you and Elijah have a fight or something?” Rebekah asked out of the blue while browsing the dresses.
“No. Why?” You replied.
“The two of you just seem so awfully distant lately.” She said, “And Elijah’s been in some kind of somber mood, he practically just shuts himself in his room all day. It’s Klaus who normally does that.”
“He’s been avoiding me for two weeks, ever since the incident with a vampire.” You said.
She raised a brow in question, “What incident?”
“You mean he didn’t tell you?” You then recounted how you discovered the secret that lies beneath the streets of New Orleans.
Taking a deep breath, your fist hung an inch away from the door to Elijah’s room. After telling Rebekah the whole story, she pestered (and almost dragged) you to go to Elijah and talk it out.
You were about to knock when the door suddenly swung open. Elijah Mikaelson stood there, in a white shirt and pyjama pants, looking very much surprised.
“Y-Y/N? What’re you doing here?” He asked once he had finally come around.
“I’m worried.” You admitted, “You’ve been avoiding me for two weeks. I had no idea if something had happened to you or if you were mad at me or something.
“I’m a vampire, an Original vampire, for goodness sake.” Elijah said, “I’m a monster, Y/N/N, I could hurt you. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“‘Lijah, what’re you talking about? You’re anything but a monster. You’re literally the sweetest person I know.” You protested.
“Aren’t you terrified by the prospect that I was transformed into a creature that feeds off of blood? A creature that nearly killed you?”
“I’m not and you wanna know why? Because I know the real you and you’re far from just a vampire.”
“But-” Before he could utter another word you suddenly pressed your lips to his, effectively shutting him up.
“That was.” Elijah grinned as he found it difficult to find the words to describe just how perfect it was.
You giggled, looping your arms around his neck, “If you’re going to pick back up on your monologue, I’m seriously kicking you.”
The vampire chuckled, “I can’t seem to recall what the topic was anymore.” before pulling you in for another kiss.
The sun was shining, the air was cool, and all the factions of New Orleans were at peace - nothing could seem more perfect.
Especially with your arm looped around Elijah’s.
“It feels like eternity since I last saw this.” Elijah mused.
“Saw what?” You asked.
“This.” He emphasized, “Everything is at peace, almost as if we were in some sort of paradise.”
Looking up at him with a smile, you said, “As long as I’m around you, everyday is paradise.”
The original chuckled, pecking a kiss to your cheek, “Now look who’s stealing my lines.”
“What?” You feigned offence, “Would you rather someone else did?”
“Never in a million years.” Elijah answered.
“Where is she? Bring me to her, this instance!” Elijah almost screamed as he bursted through the doors of the compound.
“Elijah, you need to calm down, she’s okay.” Rebekah said in an attempt to console her brother.
“I saw her, Rebekah, I know she isn’t okay - it’s my fault, I need to see her.” Her older brother pleaded.
“She’s in the guest room with Cami.”
As soon as the blonde uttered these words, Elijah ran to the room in question, “Camille! How is she?”
Cami shushes him, “She’s okay Elijah, her injuries looked worse than they actually were, she’s just resting now.”
The original breathed a sigh of relief as he sat down on the seat Cami had been occupying earlier while nursing you, “Thank you Cami, I’m sorry for what happened.”
Cami gave him a reassuring smile, “It’s not your fault Elijah, none of us would’ve seen it coming.”
She then left the room, closing the door behind her to give you and Elijah some privacy.
“Y/N, you shouldn’t be here, go home, it’s too dangerous.” Elijah said the moment he saw you.
“I can’t Eli, I can’t stay home knowing  that all of you are out here.” You protested.
“It’s too dangerous out here, you could get seriously hurt and I don’t want that.” He argued.
Before you could argue any further, Elijah immediately vampire-sped you to a secluded part of the area, “Stay here and don’t come out unless you are in grave danger or I come to pick you up.”
With a roll of your eyes, you quickly pressed a kiss to lips, “Little advice, getting stabbed with the white oak stake, because that will surely get you killed.”
Despite the ongoing battle, Elijah managed to smile, “I’ll take note of that then.”
Elijah would surely lecture you for this, that is if the both of you make it out of this alive.
It feels like actual torture to just stand around and wait for the battle to be over, so naturally, you ignored what Eliah had tol you and set out to fight.
Setting aside the tragedy, the whole scenery almost looked like something out of a movie - the blood splattered everyday could’ve been enough to stage a couple of crime scenes, hearts lay discarded, almost indistinguishable figures moved in and out and fortunately, no one has noticed you.
That’s when you saw it, Lucien with the white oak stake in his hand, ready to stab an unsuspecting Elijah busy fighting another vampire.
So, you did the natural thing and took the stake for him.
Elijah closed his eyes, he could still remember the way his senses told him that something was wrong a little too late, the way the blood soaked your shirt, your pained scream.
He was supposed to protect you, how could he let that happen?
“Elijah…” He suddenly heard the voice he so desperately wanted to hear.
“Y/N/N,” Elijah stood up, stroking your hair, “How’re you feeling?”
You smiled at him, “I’m feeling fine, shoulder’s just a bit sore.”
“I’m sorry,  I should’ve been able to protect you, I was supposed to keep you safe. How do I manage to kill every woman I love?” He said.
“It’s not your fault, you protected me, you literally had me hide in a safe place. I was the one who walked into the battlefield.” You insisted.
A slight pout formed on Elijah’s lips, “But you still got hurt, you literally got stabbed. I should’ve just brought you back to the compound first.”
“And let you get stabbed with the white oak stake? Not a chance.” You laughed.
“But you got hurt.”
“And you’re alive, would you rather it be the other way around?”
“I don’t like it when you get hurt.”
“I told you to avoid the white oak stakes.”
You sighed, intertwining your hands, “Eli, I’m not a damsel in distress, I appreciate that you want to protect me but know that I can also protect you. It’s basically just give and take.”
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always protected everyone I loved.” He said.
“Then, me and your family will always be here to protect you.” You answered.

Maison du diable - Chapter one
Warnings: see this post before reading

Tumblr media
The morning is dark, and foggy. New Orleans, Louisiana, is just recovering from a harsh downpour. The streets are covered in small puddles and light drops as it's people carry on with their day. You must work, especially in this harsh economy, no matter the conditions. It's an early morning when Alastor steps into his usual coffee shop, the smell is one he's grown familiar with, and in just a few short moments he's already at the front flirting with the barista.
"I'll have my usual, thank you Anne." He says with a smile, before Anne gets to work quickly with a blush on her cheeks. In this day an age a lady can easily be won over with the charm of a successful man. The men must work, provide. Their goal; to run a household, bear children, and be a guide to his wife, to make her the perfect woman. All women want are pretty clothes, and useless things. What good is a woman if she isn't on a man's arm?
" Here you go sir." Anne says, placing his cup of coffee in front of him, made just the way he likes it. Or at least that's what she thinks. Alastor reads the daily paper, paying a whopping twenty five cents to see todays news. He reads through the sections, flips through the pages, and glosses over the words just as he does every morning. He glanced around the shop for a moment, seeing the usual faces he does this early in the morning. Everything is swell. As it should be. He looks back down to his paper, 'there's nothing like this', he thinks.
Until he finally comes across the hottest topic of the week. A new store has opened in town. A boutique, which would seem nothing out of the ordinary. If it weren't for the name.
Maison du diable.
In bold letters, he sees the picture of a shop. It's a woman, her hair is tied back, and she has all sorts of jewlery on. She stands in front of the store window, her smile wide. Behind her, Alastor notices the shadows around her. He finally realizes the commotion behind this new shop. Maison du diable is french, it means house of the devil.
The community is small, living in the French quarter, everyone seems to know everyone. But word travels quick, just through word of mouth alone. This woman must be mad to have it published in the paper. He sees the reporters words on the bottom of the page. 'Any store run by a woman is doomed to go bankrupt! Stay clear from this store! It's cursed!'
Alastor sits in silence for a moment, before taking another sip of his coffee. Something new to talk about on air today, he thinks. He finishes his coffee, earlier than usual, before folding the paper back up and tucking it under his arm. He leaves with a nod and smile to Anne, leaving her a blushing mess as he exits the shop.
'Today could be exciting' He thinks.

"We'll I'll be~" Maxine says, pushing past the curtain behind the counter. Y/n smiled, leaning against the cane she holds.
"I don't understand, I did tell everyone I would be opening a shop..." Y/n said confused, not sure why Maxine was so amazed. " Unless you all doubted me of course..." She said quietly, before Maxine waved her hands.
"No no not for a second, 'jus that, well you know how tight money is." Maxine said nervously, twirling her curly hair. She was a short girl, around 5'4, with long brown curls. She was pale, with a light beauty mark under her right eye, but no one could ever really tell thanks to her glasses.  They were large and round, black blazer, and there was a small crack in the left lenses.
"You know very well money is never the problem for me." Y/n said more serious now, her face going back to its stoic look.
"It's just a tough thing to do that's all!" Maxine said trying to find a way out of this. She needed this job, and she knew Y/n was not one for mercy.
"So you did doubt me." Y/n says, getting closer to  the counter. Maxine froze, unsure of what else to say.
"Y/n, I'm-"
"Oh please!" Y/n said letting out a laugh. Maxine stood confused as Y/n let herself fall into a fit of laughter, walking around the store as she spoke to Maxine. " If I'm anything it isn't dense dear. Don't look so scared." Y/n said, before picking up a mask and placing it over her face as she laughed, taunting Maxine.
Before she could continue, a ring was heard as someone stepped into the store. It was a small woman, no more than five foot. She smiled happily as she glanced around. Quietly, Y/n made her way to the back of the store, behind the counter.
"If she gives you a problem, tell me." Y/n said, before Maxine nodded. Y/n pushed past the curtain before it was just Maxine and the woman in the store.
The woman walked up and down the aisles, at first grabbing nothing, just simply looking around. However, when she went back again, she began to grab all types of things. Sage, crystals, bowls, wind charms, thread and candles, and by the time she made her way to the counter she had so many items she couldn't even hold them all.
" I trust you found everything you needed?" Maxine asked with a smile, before the woman nodded happily.
"Yes of course, I read about this place in the paper and thought I would come by. Now I don't need to go to lakeside for my supplies." She says with a smile, before pulling out a pouch to pay with.
"First time buyers get half off, and as a complementary," Maxine said, turning around to grab the small thank you bag Y/n had prepared herself, "You also get this." She said, placing the bag in front of her.
"Oh thank you. Are you the owner of this place?" The woman asked, before Maxine laughed.
"Heavens no, I just work here. My friend is the owner." Maxine said, before the woman handed her the amount she owed. Maxine counted it before placing it into the register, grabbing the difference and handing it back. " Would you like a bag for all of this?" Maxine asked before the woman nodded happily.
"Yes please. I informed my son to meet me here so he might be able to carry it for me." She said, before Maxine smiled. Just then, Y/n came from behind the curtain, and smiled at the woman.
"Oh hello. I hope Maxine is taking good care of you. Wouldn't want to scare off our first costumer." Y/n said, walking out from behind the counter. The woman laughed as Maxine placed all her items in a small cloth bag.
" This is the owner." Maxine said gesturing to Y/n who was busy looking at the aisle signs.
"Maxine." Y/n said, before she let out a 'hm?'
"Where are the candles again?" Y/n asked, leaning on her cane.
" I believe it's aisle four...?" Maxine said hopefully, before Y/n grinned.
"You would be correct." She said, tapping her cane on the floor before going to the aisle. Maxine let out a sigh of relief before handing the woman her things.
"Oh, I hate to be a bother, but would you mind helping me take this out. I believe I see my son out front and I wouldn't want to keep him waiting while I struggle to hold this." The woman said with a laugh, before Maxine nodded. Even when she tried picking the bag up, it still remained incredibly heavy.
"Trouble?" Y/n asked, staring at the two ladies with two white candles in her hands. Maxine nodded before Y/n placed the candles down on the counter, before picking up the bag.
"My my, what did you buy?" Y/n laughed as she picked the bag up, before walking ahead of the woman. She followed quickly, while Maxine took her place back behind the counter.
" Just a few things, you did have a wide selection." The woman said, before Y/n grinned.
"Correct, as wide as we may be however we do not sell skulls, or ghost items." Y/n said, turning to look at the woman over her shoulder. The woman only smiled at that, giggling a bit. Finally reached the front, Y/n opened the door and let the woman pass through first. Then Y/n followed after her.
"Be a dear and take that from her." The woman said to the man, who Y/n assumed was her son based off his appearance. He wore a bright smile, almost so wide it hurt. He took the bag from Y/n, before the woman turned back to her.
"You don't sell them, but maybe you should. It would get me in a lot more often." The woman said, before Y/n nodded leaning on her cane. Even though she really didn't need it, it was fun to have around.
" We just might with this trick." Y/n said with a grin, before the man interjected.
"Mother was this the shop we saw on the paper?" He asked, looking down to her. He was tall, really tall. Almost seven feet tall. His skin, like the woman's, was darker, almost a caramel color. His hair was short, but neat all the same, and he had glasses that rested on the middle of his nose. He was a lanky man so it seemed, yet he carried the bag with little to no effort at all.
'Power of the man I guess' Y/n thought.
"Yes it was. She's the owner." His mother said, before he placed his hand out for a handshake. Y/n shook his hand, before he smiled. His grip was tight, but nothing Y/n couldn't deal with.
"Pleasure to meet you." He said smiling, almost trying to swoon her. Y/n remained serious, before nodding.
"Pleasure is mine thank you." She said curtly.
"Well, since I'll be a regular here, my name is Helen. This is my son, Alastor." Helen said smiling, before he nodded.
"That's a beautiful name. I do hope I see you again." Y/n said, before she smiled. " I trust if you read the paper you would know my name." Y/n said knowingly, before Helen chuckled nervously. She did not remember.
"Y/n." Alastor said before Y/n nodded. Helen looked at him surprised.
"Ah, then you did read." Y/n said before he nodded.
"Of course. I always read the daily paper." Alastor said proudly, before Y/n laughed.
"Y/n, we have a problem." Maxine said, before there was a crash heard in the store. Y/n sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Maxine I'll handle it, just stay at the counter. I'll be inside shortly." Y/n said clearly annoyed.
" We'll take our leave now. We wouldn't want to keep you busy." Helen said smiling, before Y/n nodded to her.
"I do hope to see you again. Both of you." She said, looking to both Helen and Alastor, before stepping back into the store.
"You can stop digging your nails into me mother." Alastor said, helping Helen walk down the street. She sighed, finally allowing herself to relax. Alastor couldn't deny he felt the same.
"She most certainly is not from around here." Helen said, before Alastor nodded.
"She doesn't seem to be. She speaks like those from up North." Alastor said, before Helen nodded.
"Still. There's something off with her." Helen said, before feeling herself get dizzy.
"Mother, she's drained you. Please, let's get you home." Alastor said, before Helen nodded, letting her son walk her home. If anything was for certain now, it was that she would be seeing her more often.

Chapter 1
Romance was a funny thing. Something, not many people had the pleasure of having it or finding. When Julia hit the age of twenty, she had never thought of being swept off her feet by a charming radio host. She had always thought love at first sight had been a silly thing. Surely something as doubtful as that couldn't exist, right? Oh, how wrong she was. Her family had moved to New Orleans in search of new opportunities, the kind she could never have found back in her small hometown. Her father had gotten a very good-paying factory job, while her mother owned her very own boutique, where she would sell beautiful gowns to the townspeople. Her mother said that she didn't have to work if she didn't want to. But Julia craved an excuse to leave the house, to break free from the shell of her shyness. She had been homeschooled, an only child, and had spent far too much time cooped up in her room. Her passion for music and the arts was her only outlet, rough drawings in a leather-backed sketchbook that captured her dreams. She thought she wasn't pretty, but her mother always reassured her that she was the most beautiful girl she had ever seen. Julia was modest, and her mother of course would say such a thing. But deep down, a spark of hope ignited in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, romance was a funny thing that could happen to her after all.
Julia never really had any gentlemen callers. Sadly, she had always shied away from men usually. She would never think she would be good enough. Even if she did feel envy a few times from seeing just how happy her mother and father were.  She had found a job in the newspaper as a secretary for the local Radio Station. She happily took it and walked to the two-story building in hopes of getting the job. Thinking, it would help her come out of her shell and be more of a people person. A pretty, petite woman greeted her with a warm smile on her first day, and she was kind and friendly to her. She had led her to the new boss’s office. He was dressed impeccably, a bright red blazer with a crisp white undershirt with his sleeves rolled up neatly. His blazer was buttoned up perfectly, with a sleek black bow tie that matched his sleek slacks. And polished wing-tipped shoes. Alastor was surely something else. Julia had never in her lifetime seen a man as attractive as him. She was a nervous wreck the whole interview with him, and he remained calm with a dazzling pearly white grin. Finding her and her nervousness utterly adorable. He had never seen such a woman as Julia, he was used to women falling head over heels for him, and trying to seduce him to get the job. All of which he had turned down every time, but she had fallen for his charm as well. Julia didn't try to jump him in ten seconds, however.
She was dressed modestly, her cheeks rosy thanks to him. He rested his head on the backs of his hands as she was interested more in the job than him. Which he found, oddly charming. Needless to say, Julia had gotten the job in a heartbeat. He was charming as the devil. He knew just the right things to say just to make her heart flutter even more the more and more time she'd spend with him. As his secretary, she would answer his calls for him, and go over the scripts he had for his broadcasts. Looking for any mistakes, when there were hardly any. He had very nice handwriting, which made her a little jealous as her penmanship wasn't exactly the greatest. Her s's looked like lowercase g's.
Julia's heart would flutter as Alastor played his swing tunes. Sometimes she couldn't resist tapping her heel to the infectious rhythm. She made a point to arrive at work early, just so she could see his smile when he walked in. And oh, that smile - it made her feel like she was floating on a cloud. She could tell he felt the same way, his eyes following her around the room. Each time Alastor drove her home, her mother would give her a knowing wink. It was clear - Julia had fallen head over heels for the gentleman with the golden touch on the radio.
"Oh, I know that look!" she would always say, giving him a playful nudge. "You're up to something, aren't you?"His mother said the same thing, teasing him to no end. She was the first woman to catch his eye, after all, and she loved hearing about her. She was proud of him. The two of them only grew closer as time went by. Until he had shown up at her home with a bundle of red roses in his hand, she was pleasantly surprised, and immediately pulled him into a hug accepting the flowers, and his affection. Her parents loved him. Her father didn’t care for anyone else usually, but Alastor was polite to him and her mother, showing that he had nothing but good intentions for her. He wasn’t just some shmuck on the street looking for a quick lay, he was far from it. As for his mother, well she more than happily welcomed Julia with open arms. She adored her instantly! When she had told her, she had been the first girl he brought home she was surprised.
“Oh, you must be Julia!” Alastor's mother exclaimed, enveloping her in a warm hug. “It's so wonderful to finally meet you. Alastor has told us so much about you.” From that moment, Alastor knew he had found his one true love. They kept their relationship secret, sharing private moments away from work. But there were hints - love songs on the radio, whispers in the hallway. On special nights out, Alastor spoilt his belle, taking her to the finest places New Orleans had to offer. At the Christmas party, he finally made their love public. With a proud smile, he introduced his radiant Julia to the rest of the office. Blushing, she hid her face in his shoulder, a soft laugh escaping her lips.
“There is no need for you to be so modest, darling!” Alastor had said. That spring, Alastor surprised Julia with a beautiful engagement ring. It was pure gold, with a ruby in the center of it. Julia burst out in happy tears, eagerly pulling him into a hug and covering his face in many kisses. The both of them laughed before he returned the embrace. Once she turned twenty-four, she happily married Alastor. The dance the newlyweds shared with family members all around was the happiest day of her life. Just being in the arms of the man she loved was enough to keep her satisfied, and she smiled more with him around. Alastor's mother would often tease them about having grandchildren, which made Julia blush and try to change the subject.
"Mother, please," Alastor sighed, wrapping an arm around Julia to comfort her. If it's in God's plan, they may one day have children together - and if not, she was completely content with that too. He truly is an incredible lover, always cherishing her and making sure she feels appreciated. He adores her, showing immense care and consideration as he guides their intimacy. It's almost surprising that she was his first, as he handles everything with such confidence and skill.
Nestled within the Louisiana backwoods, not too far from New Orleans but far enough that it was still considered the countryside, stood a lovely two-story cabin that exuded the charm of a hunter's lodge yet was modest enough for a family home. It had been Alastor's mother who had played a crucial role in helping the newlyweds find this wonderful abode. The house occupied a fantastic piece of property that bordered hunting grounds, surrounded by sprawling wooded areas and thriving with diverse wildlife. Truly, a haven in nature's embrace!
Loving the country air, the smell of moss and scents of pine and cypress, and the way the birds sang each morning was far better than the honking of cars and city noise. She had even placed some bird feeders in the grassy yard to attract some of the birds. Julia would stand on the front porch in a wrap-around with a warm cup of hot chocolate in her hands staring out into the woods with a pleasant smile. Alastor would wrap his arms around her waist, resting his chin on top of her head, to not hit his head on the wind chimes, she had. She would stand there with his warmth around her, just watching the wildlife carry on with their day. Rabbits would search around and snack on the carrots and other vegetables she had thrown out for them, as would the deer. It was their little slice of heaven.
She had always had a soft spot for deer. The way she adored the graceful fawns with their cute spotted coats and the majestic bucks with their impressive antlers was truly heartwarming. Despite knowing that Alastor was a hunter, she trusted his promise never to harm the wildlife that frequented their home to graze. But as we know, happiness often felt fleeting in her world.
When Julia had said goodbye to Alastor for the day. She had no idea that it would be the last time she would see him. She had been asleep when it had happened. She was getting comfortable on the bed, wrapped in the warm comforter that smelled of Alastor, which smelled slightly metallic and like expensive cologne. When she was suddenly woken up by the loud crack of a gunshot, nearby. She nearly fell out of the bed in shock, her heart thundering in her chest at the sudden crack. She knew there were some hunting grounds near their home, but gunshots had never sounded that close before. She quickly grabbed her handgun from the nightstand and a flashlight.
She hoped, feverishly praying to a higher power that Alastor hadn’t been caught in the crosshairs. She wandered through the woods near their home, justifying all manner of what ifs or scenarios that could have resulted in the gunshot, and not any possibilities invoking her husband. As she neared the suspected area in which she had judged where the sound had come from, Julia was shocked and horrified by the scene in front of her. Alastor was lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
In the dying embers of twilight, Julia found herself surrounded by a chilling tableau. A vicious pack of dogs circled her husband's lifeless form, their snarls and growls echoing in the still night air. The man who had once been her rock, her partner, the love of her life, lay sprawled and mutilated, his tan skin slick with blood. The bullet wound in his forehead had robbed him of his sight, and the savage mauling of his limbs had reduced him to a twisted, broken shell of a man.
Julia's heart shattered into a million pieces as she knelt beside him, her hands trembling as they cradled his blood-soaked head. His chestnut eyes, once so full of life and warmth, now stared back at her, devoid of any hint of consciousness or emotion. They were empty orbs, soulless and haunting. Tears streamed down her face, mingling with the blood on his ruined blazer, as she whispered his name, a prayer for the dead.
With trembling hands, she aimed the revolver at the man, her mind clouded by grief and rage. Her heart pounded like a drum as she aimed the weapon, her vision blurred by hot tears. Her finger tightened on the trigger, and with a deafening roar, the bullet tore through the air, shattering the oppressive silence. And the man was shot in the leg by her.
As the police descended on the scene, their flashing lights painting the scene in harsh, unnatural hues, Julia stood frozen, her mind reeling. The man who had murdered her husband was whisked away, his guilt etched in every line of his face. The lifeless body of her beloved was loaded onto a gurney, his shattered form wrapped in cold, sterile linen. She clutched at the broken glasses, the only tangible remnants of Alastor, as the world spun around her.
In the days and weeks that followed, Julia's world crumbled. The vibrant colours seemed to bleed from her vision, leaving her surrounded by a monotonous grey. She stopped smiling, her laughter turned to hollow sobs, and she retreated into herself, finding solace in the empty silence of her home. The pack of deer that had once brought her joy now served only as a stark reminder of the life she had lost.
On the anniversary of his death, something strange began to happen. The old radio in the living room would crackle to life, its static hiss filling the silence. Julia would find herself humming along to the melancholy tunes, the notes a balm to her shattered soul. It was as if Alastor's spirit had found a way to reach out to her, to let her know he was still with her, still watching over her.
¯Put your head on my shoulder, hold me in your arms baby. Squeeze me oh so tight, show me that you love me too¯
¯Put your lips next to mine dear, won’t you kiss me once? Baby just a kiss goodnight. Maybe, you and I
will fall in love¯
¯People say, that loves a game. a game you just. can’t win. But if there’s a way, I’ll find it someday. ¯
¯Put your head on my shoulder, whisper in my ear, baby. words I want to hear. Tell me, tell me that you love me too. ¯
In the quiet solitude of her home, Julia would find herself swaying to the music, her body moving in time with the rhythm. The familiar melodies would carry her back to happier times, to the memories of their shared laughter and love. And in those moments, she would allow herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, a part of Alastor still lived on, woven into the very fabric of the world around her.
As the hauntingly beautiful notes of their song drifted to a close, Julia's gaze fell upon the old radio resting on the dusty shelf. Her heart pounded in her chest, a fluttering echo of the melody that had filled the room. This wasn't just any radio - it was a cherished relic from a bygone era, its warm wood grain glowing in the soft lamplight. It was a symbol of the love and connection that had once thrived within these walls, a tangible reminder of the life they had shared.
Alastor had been the one to bring the radio into their home, his hands expertly dismantling and rebuilding its antique mechanism with love and precision that bordered on obsession. He would spend hours poring over its intricate parts, his brow furrowed in concentration before finally coaxing it back to life with a spark of electricity. And when it played, oh how it played! The old radio would fill their home with a symphony of melodies, each notes a testament to the enduring strength of their bond.
As Julia approached the radio, her fingers trembled with a mixture of awe and trepidation. It wasn't plugged in, yet the haunting strains of their song had filled the room. How was this possible? Was it a ghostly echo from the past, or something more? As her mind swirled with possibilities, she reached out a tentative hand, her fingers tracing the smooth wood surface.
With a gentle touch, she turned the dial, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. She expected static, or perhaps silence, but instead, the radio burst into a cacophony of crackling and popping. Yet amidst the chaos, a familiar melody began to emerge, notes weaving together in a hauntingly beautiful pattern.
Julia's eyes widened as realization dawned - this wasn't just any radio; it was a conduit for the unseen, a vessel for the echoes of their shared past. With trembling hands, she carefully examined the device, her mind racing. Had Alastor left some hidden mechanism that allowed it to function beyond the ordinary? Or was this something...other?
As her fingers traced the familiar contours of the radio, Julia felt a strange warmth emanating from the device. It wasn't hot, exactly, but rather a tingling sensation that prickled her skin. With each passing moment, the radio seemed to hum with a life of its own, the static taking on a rhythmic quality.
"My love," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the music, "I've been here with you all along. Even in death, I cannot leave you. This radio...it's not just a machine, my dear. It's a part of us, an echo of the love we shared." Tears streamed down Julia's face as she reached out to the old radio. The music swelled to a crescendo, the notes intertwining with her sobs as she clung to the apparition of the man she had lost.
"Forever and always, my love," she whispered back, her voice choked with emotion. "Forever and always."

Javier is a smooth operator, you'll give him that. He slips out of your house without disturbing your mothers tranquil slumber. You were no good either, awoken by a chaste kiss, “Call me.” he whispers at 4 in the morning before disappearing out your window. You stir, still convinced you were dreaming. You wake with an attempt at nuzzling into his chest but instead you're met with the ghost of his warmth and the sound of your mother calling your name from the kitchen.
Eyes squinted you rise from bed and immediately sit back down. Your eyes widen and flash at your bare lower half, the soreness was a bit much. You know Javier would power trip if he saw the way your legs gave out. You wince as you waddle over to grab some pants.
You walk down your stairs into your kitchen with a warm flush on your face. You last saw your mother when she practically said you weren’t welcome in your house any more and now she has a narrowed eyed glare at you when you stumble down the stairs. Two eggs cracked, both for her. Her plate ready with tomato’s right where Javier bent you over and fucked you just 15 hours prior. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself.
“Good morning.” You croak with a yawn, passing her to open the fridge for some water. Her eyes follow you the whole time, trying to read your every move. Judging bit by bit.
Your eyes drag down to the counter where the house phone goes unhooked and stretched laid flat. She must have just gotten off the phone. You ignore it, you felt like your mother was always on the phone. Always stressed about the boutique.
“You’re sleeping with Javier.”
She says it matter-of-fact. Despite being prepared for the accusation you feel your stomach flipping. You had scripted this approach and prepared yourself before you dozed off after actually being fucked by Javier Peña (for the second time).
You flare your nostrils and widen your eyes in the best acting you’ve done in years and you deliver it so perfectly, “Xavier?”
You almost want to giggle, and your mother gasps—a mixture of relief and concern. Her eyes dart to the phone and you follow her gaze. “You’re back together?” She lowers the stove heat and crosses her arms, this is her dream. Marry you off to the soldier, the well off soldier. But her reaction is less expressive, maybe I should ask who she was just calling.
Later, you think, crush her twisted dreams now, “Oh you were talking about Javi!” You laugh as if her accusation was nothing short of ridiculous. “C’mon mami.. Why would you—oh the car?” You roll your neck, let go of all the knots and cracks.
Your mothers shoulders fall, probably upset that you aren't trying to work things out with your very awful ex. You wish she knew, how horrible he was, she’d still side with him.
You never described your mother as cruel, not even when you went away to Miami, when you could’ve rewritten your story. Your mother hadn’t beat you, she never called you names and she rarely ever yelled. And she wasn’t always cold. She could be kind to you, friendly, but she could also be mean—too straight up, afraid of white lies. She never loved you much, you knew people you met in college who showed you more love than your mother had. You spent all your life alone in your own home but at a certain point you made family with others.
Yet you ached for that affection from your biological family.
You hadn't given up completely and you reached an age where you could form a relationship with your brother. Finally, he wasn’t an extension of your mother, he could form his own opinions. You could distract yourself from the cast of sadness when she stares at you too long, when she’s reminded of how you came to be. When she looks at you and sees your father.
But through her frowns and sighs you at least had Frankie. Your brother was yours just as much as he was your mothers. He took care of you, you cared for him, he was mean, he was rude, but he loved you so much he never knew what to do with it. He struggled to protect you from certain things but he tried his best. God, he isnt good at showing it but he cares. He’s trying his best, you don’t think anyone loves you as much, and he doesn’t even love you all that much so it’s a bit sad and embarrassing when you think of it.
Your mother and Frankie found common ground on most things, it was just a quirk they developed from sharing so much time together. You and your mother have never agreed on anything in your life.
There were few things the two differed. Frankie was a cowboys fan and your mother favored the Texans. She hated his long hair, Frankie promised to never cut it. Frankie would kill Javier if he found what the two of you do, your mother will kill you instead.
Frankie saw it as a situation of respect, you were his baby sister for crying out loud. He thought your crush was a nuisance at worst, but he had seen how distant you got when he left. He wanted to kill Javier when he found out he kissed you before he went away, shit he wanted to kill you too.
And your mother, she thought your crush was child’s play. She saw Lorraine and Javier, she told you once that that, the romance between two teens, deciding to start their lives together, that was a display of true love. Your mom smiled over her food as she gushed over Javier and his girlfriend. You struggled to keep your food down when you entered the bathroom.
You don’t know when she made that decision because she seemed to be very indifferent to Javier’s personal life before he left. You guessed it was when she started having dinner with Lorraine's mother twice a week. It was also paired with her not considering you good enough for the son of Don Chucho. Makes more sense now that you know she slept with him too.
In her head it was Javier and Lorraine forever, so even if you admitted right now that you were sleeping with him she would find some way to talk you out of it for the sake of Lorraine.
You explain the bar lie and she believes you without batting an eye.
Between flickered glances at the phone and at you she presses some questions about his job and if he’ll speak to Lorraine before he leaves.
Mrs. Smith is convinced Lorraine and Javier will get married soon. You try not to audibly sigh as you go on about not being sure. She nods and serves her plate of eggs, you were meaning to ask why she came home early but the bubbling anxiety of mentioning Louisiana took over.
“Javier is driving me to Baton Rouge.” You drop nonchalantly. Pushing your sex and bed head out of your face as you sit on the stool. Her fork clatters and she coughs.
She’s silent for a moment, her dark brown eyes half lidded, her nostrils flaring slightly. Just like you, you got that from her… that small tick when you’re frustrated. She only urges an e por que?
You keep it cool, you know she’ll be upset regardless. “I’ll be staying with my grandmother for the weekend. Javier has a work trip in New Orleans, I’ll catch a ride.”
She lets out an overdrawn sigh, “señor dame fuerza,” she mutters her fingers pinching the bridge of her nose. Always so dramatic, your eyes flash to the clock, shouldn’t she be in church? You’d bring it up but you know if you do she’d throw that fork at you. “¿Sabes qué? No puedo detenerte.”
Your brows raise in shock. You let a silence beat before you reply, “No, you can’t.”
She sighs, “You know I’m just trying to protect you.”
And you don’t know what has gotten into you but— “Too late for that.”
Your mothers aging eyes widen, her mouth parting slightly in shock. For a split second you feel a pang in your chest, the guilt for that second is unbearable. But who had been there when you cried so much you’d choke? Had she felt guilty when she passed your room when you cried for her affection when you were just six. Had she felt guilty then?
Her gaze falls to the plate and you twist the knife further. “I’ll be apartment hunting there too, for this coming winter.” It comes to you on the spot, you never had the intention to do so but after her “move out” suggestion the idea came naturally. Maybe it was a mixture of hope, hoping the family in Baton Rouge would open their arms to you and never make you feel unwelcome.
Her brows raise a bit and with her smallest stutter she whispers, “Bien.”
“Good.” You snap, crossing your arms.
Her eyes widened again, appalled at your audacity. “Well–I’m going to work. I called your brother about you and Javier so you might want to clear the air.”
Your mother dramatically exits like she had two days ago when she dropped the first bomb of the week. An unbearable panic explodes in your chest, you physically recoil the second she leaves. Hand over your chest, you try to bite back tears.
No–not yet. No, not this time.
Tumblr media
Avoidant, often you call yourself that. You avoided the things that made you feel anything other than a sense of security.  You’d have 7 blow up arguments with your mother a year, in reality you should have an argument a day but you often avoided that too. You avoided all things Javier when he was gone, avoided breaking up with Xavier until the very last minute.
It was just in your nature, so after a few shed tears and a coughing up the milk you chugged from your wrecked nerves, you avoided the thought of being confronted by your older brother. You avoided the idea of having to lie to his face and then somehow convince him that despite your mothers claims you were indeed not fucking his best friend but you are also heading on a completely platonic mini vacation together in just a few days.
The trait was probably your fathers. Your mother never avoided a confrontation, she’d follow you up the stairs before you physically create a barrier between you two. Frankie had been the same way, stern and a bit mean but always in search to solve the problem the second it started. The second he found out you had kissed Javier from some girl who stopped by the hair salon he drove straight to the house to talk to you about it. That was them and like most things ‘mom and son’ you just couldn't be on that same level.
With that when your mom left you alone after that bomb you had locked yourself into your room and planned your lessons for the week, completely (sort of) shutting out all thoughts of this morning.
Until 2 pm when you had gotten hungry after only drinking milk that you spat up like an infant. Your brain splitting in two when you’re met with the back of your big brother's head. Somehow feeling some more of that bile lingering and coming back up.
“Frankie…” You whispered turning the corner and into the kitchen where he sat at the island stool. His hair still long and curly, Genie had a love-hate thing with it, on one hand he had beautiful healthy curls and on the other he looked a bit shaggy with it. It was a bit 1975 of him, the denim and mustache. Him and Javier being best friends just made sense, their style never evolved.
You see his face now, in his hands is a book and his eyes aren't as angry as you feared. That scared you the most, so you began, “Gordo–” His eyes flashed to yours again, maybe calling him by your childhood nickname was a bit much. “Mami is mistaken, you have to believe me– me and Javi never-we haven’t-god, we’re not even.”
But Frankie cuts, “Did you take a psychology course at Miami.”
Um…
Your brows pull tightly, afraid of where this is going. Is he just going to ignore the whole– “Yes-yeah I did, childhood and adolescent development and psychology.”
“Did you ever read Julian Ridden, anything from him?” Frankie taps his book and places it on the counter ignorant of him, his hand splayed on the cover and then slowly retreated. Words upside down, cover a pale palm out open.
You shake your head, “No– it was more like Piaget and Freud, what does this have to do with anything? I want to talk to you Frankie!”
Well so much for being avoidant. Now that he’s here you want none of whatever he’s trying to do now, no mind games, just let me lie to you dammit.
“Ridden came up with the Being and Knowing theory about parents who grew up with out a father of their own. He says that men who never had a father figure in their life often overcompensate in the lives of their children, they know what's it like to not have a father so they become what they wished for.”
Your brows soften for a moment, the tightness in your chest shifting from the possibility of being caught to concern for your brother. You take a step closer, pulling the book towards you and flipping it. “Frankie…are you alright, I know–well I don't but I figure the idea of being a father feels scary.”
“I’m sorry for not being there for you when you were little.” His head drops and you hurry to his side, slinging your arm over his shoulders. He shook his head in disagreement. It’s okay, you murmur into his shoulder. “It isn't okay, upu had no one, not even mami. I see it now. And I know it wasn't my responsibility to play the role of your father but I could’ve been a better example of what a man should be.”
Your heart splits in two and suddenly every worry you built until now washes away, a few tears fall at the sound of something so unfortunately true. You just hated that he realized how it’s been for you,  that now he’s hurt too, you only wished that this would only pain you. “It’s okay you did your best, I’m better now.”
Frankie pinches the bridge of his nose and shrugs you off, startled you wipe your own tears afraid of what outburst is coming from this, “You looked for that in Javi–I know me, your dad and even fucking Xavier didn't treat you well, Javier was there for you and I feel like I prosecuted you for that–it's fucked up.”
There it is, taking the back of your palm you wipe your brow and land your hands on your hips. “What…”
“Listen, I was too hard on you about Javier. I know that now, I get it. He left and I blamed you internally, and sure some of it was your fault but I don’t know why I lacked sympathy for you all I thought about was myself.”
You cross your arms, now he’s entering waters unknown. When Javi left your brother distanced, you had taken the educated guess that it was because he was starting his life with his girlfriend not much else. Blame me? What was my fault? For what? You bite the inside of your lip, staring down the profile of your brother's face. “What do you mean?”
His brows screw, still his gaze fixed on nothing ahead of him. “You made shit awkward, Javier never called and when he did all he wanted to talk about was you.”
Your face flushes, “I’m sorry what– Javier doing Javier shit has nothing to do with me. He’s a famously known flaker, he leaves.. Often and when he does he like chooses to not exist in our lives. That's not my fault!”
Frankie closes his eyes and exhales a frustrated one. “Obviously some shit happened before he left which I know now was him fucking kissing you, god you should’ve never let that happen Andrea.”
You mirror his angry exhale and your tears have since dried. “Oh give me a break, I was fucking sixteen and in love with him, god forbid we share a kiss. Jesus christ, it wasn't that serious, he left and stopped calling. He's here now!”
Frankie’s head snaps to you in disbelief, “Wasn't that serious? He left and you didn't fucking eat, you were never home and when you started to be healthy again you started dating that–that prick, that called you fat on your birthday dinner. You leave for Miami and you never call, you come home and you work out until you’re sick and now Javier’s home and all of a sudden you're easy going and healthy and fine. That is a big deal!”
You stood frozen in front of him feeling like an open wound. Everything you hid, all the habits you tried to keep under wraps. How you skipped the meals your mother made, when you cried embarrassed when Genie found you on the side of the road after nearly fainting from a run. You had blocked it out, avoidant, Xavier had asked if you really wanted dessert on your eighteenth birthday, in front of your brother. He sat and watched. You were at a loss of words for once, you couldn't muster up anything to say. All things were true, he was right but you couldn’t face the connection.
“I…” You swallow the lump in your throat, “Yes, Frankie, yes I struggled. But it is what it is, it’s in the past!” You just accepted that idea 4 days ago but you couldn't tell him that, no.
He stands abruptly, the chair scraping tile, “I can sympathize with you now, we’re grown up but you complicated shit and I lost my best friend! You need to take responsibility.”
“I didn't do anything wrong!”
He scoffs, “Oh please! I wasn't the best brother to you but you knew Javier would do anything for you, you knew he was with Lorraine and you still had to have him! You never saw it this way, how could you? All you think about is yourself, but he was my friend first! He was my only fucking friend Andrea and-” His finger is pointed in your face. You're so angry you could slap him but that wouldn't end well, you and your brother were never above rough-housing. The optics arent the same now that the two of you are adults. “And imagine how I feel… after all this time, all this distance to get a call from mami saying regardless of it being my only boundary you're still seeing him? Please tell me I’m mistaken, nena. I’ll fucking kill him you have to understand me–he’s my family but you’re my little sister and I’m not letting him hurt you again, I cant watch it again. ” His finger falls.
Your skin feels a size too tight at that, the nickname he gave you when he first held you in his own chubby toddler arms. The burn of little sister, his stare blown and frantic you couldn't even tell exactly what he was mad about but it seemed to all boil over. Those six years of resentment you never knew he held.  Standing in the kitchen where you had the man he’s begging you to be away from, below the bathroom where he asked you to go away with him and now with wild embers in the deep brown irises of your big brother, he pleads.
He is pleading, please don’t lie to me any longer, please don’t, not Javier, anyone else.
And you feel it, the guilt, the sick twisting storm throughout your body. You feel everything at once, you feel the paternal look in Frankie's eyes, his newfound fatherhood giving him perspective on how it must have been for you. You feel the resentment in how you acted after Javi left, how you never considered how his best friend leaving burned him too.
But so selfishly you’re brought back to the feeling of being in his arms. You hate that your brain is proving Frankie's point. Javier makes you feel stable, safe and maybe it’s unhealthy but it’s the greatest comfort you’ve ever felt.
You hadn’t known warmth until then.
Come november he’ll be gone and if you're careful no one gets hurt, he leaves and your secret is kept. Frankie is your family, he has hurt you 4 times over, he passed your room when you wept and rubbed in your face the relationship he had with your mother. You loved him to death but your feelings for Javier belong to you. You’re so tired of being told how to behave.
You lie.
“I am not sleeping with Javier.” Frankie’s tense shoulders drop, and you drag on the falsehood. “Mom got the wrong idea but I told her he had dropped his car off here so he could head to the bar and I’m so sorry for fucking shit up but its…me and him are different now. He’s my…” Your eyes drop, not having the heart to look at him as you fabricate all he knows. “He’s my best friend too, he knows about my grandma, he’s taking me to see her so we’ve been spending time together.” Half true, you hadn't even brought up your grandmother to Javier but you hoped to soon. You flick your gaze upward and your brother is stone face,  internalizing all that you laid out, all the deception, you feel the trust between you two chipping piece by piece.
Your grandma, he whispers to himself and instantly frowns. He pulls you close to him tightly. You stay in the embrace for long, beginning to cry in shame. Feeling sick to lie to him this way, sob while he believes it’s because of your paternal trauma.
He’ll never forgive me.
Tumblr media
Your brother leaves and it takes a few hours of complete isolation for you to feel anything at all. Sitting with your legs crossed in your bedroom, reliving all the good and bad in your story. Trying to pin-point all the wrong Frankie has done to justify lying to him the way you did. It’s radio silence in your room as you numbly pack, each corner tucked and rolled is a reminder of all the relationships you’re ruining. You think of your mother as you pack, you think of every time you packed a bag or lack thereof.
There were few things your mother did for you. By fourteen you were made to make your own dinner, pay for your own hair cuts, and keep up with your dentist appointments. But the one thing you could always rely on with your mother was her packing skills. She’d watch you struggle and let out an exasperated sigh before shoving you out the way and taking matters in her own hands.
Now at 9 pm you feel your mothers presence at the doorway while you struggle. It’s slight, the breeze surrounding her body, you feel the narrowed eyes peeled to the back of your head, the room pulsing with anticipation.
Will you be my mother again?
The weak part of you pleads.
But she closes the door for you without another word. And it's so silly but you begin to tear up, it's done once and for all.
You try your best to sleep that night but you find it impossible. You arrive at your class 10 minutes late with the students shaking their heads when they observe the cup of coffee in your hand. Class goes as good as it could be considering it was antsy eighth graders who had failed their algebra final. Two more weeks of summer school, one more month until you make a decision on your classroom. It makes you giggle a bit being called Ms. Diaz.
Javier doesn't call you Monday night but you know it's for the better. You know once you hear his voice you’ll miss him and you shouldn't do any more secret rendezvous until your family quits the speculation. You’ll have him all weekend, you'll have him in a few days.
On Tuesday you come home from work to a stranger taking care of your baby sister. Slowly your mother cuts off your purpose in her home. Hiring a nanny named Florencia, you still pick up Sol and give the nanny a break. Rolling your R’s in her face and watching as she attempts to mock you, she gets fed up. She smiles and pulls on your hair.
You’ll miss her the most you think, sometimes she makes you believe maybe you’ll be a good mother.
Wednesday ebbs and flows, you see Javier at the market. He stops in his tracks at the end of the aisle, strangely reminiscent of when he saw you for the first time after his year away. You in your bikini top and him in his dark jacket in 7/11. This time Javier looks around for on lookers and you do the same before he stalks you down the aisle, pushing your cart away before grabbing at your cheeks for a quick kiss that has your chest heating.
He steps away from you, creating distance in case a customer comes by. No one would know how had just kissed her.
You blush profusely and before you could tease him a worker passes you with a cart and begins stocking right next to the two of you.
“My dad is waiting in the truck.” Javier blurts, you take this moment to appreciate his attire. You want to ask if he dresses up this nice every time he goes for errands, you on the other hand… how funny would that kiss look to onlookers? A fully suited Javier pressing his lips to you in an oversized flannel and denim shorts.
You nod, “Okay…”
Javier looks over at the nosy employee, the two of you knew who the worker was, he was in Genie’s graduating class. Javier rolls his tongue in his cheek annoyed with their interaction being startled and it would be far too obvious to take the conversation elsewhere. Tilting his head to the ceiling and that familiar Peña sass you're so used to. He narrows his eyes at the worker again and shakes his head. Your cheeks hurt from the active attempt to not laugh.
“I’ll see you around Andrea, you look great.” He teases, his hand squeezing our shoulder. The worker stops his stocking at that and Javier doesn't give you the opportunity to pinch him because he's walking away.
Thursday you attempt to finish packing, stomach flipping at the thought of being on the road with Javier at 5 am the next day. Ten hours on the road and 3 nights alone. You stuff your birth control in between your towel and going out dress.
Right before bed, Javier calls your home phone. You aren't given the time to say hello.
“Are you okay?” He urges beyond the line. Your brows pull tight, your eyes dart to your packed back on the floor and to your clock, 10 pm.
“Yeah…are you okay?” You laugh and to your surprise he doesn't laugh back.
“Frankie came to my house today.”
Your heart skips a beat and you sit up in bed. Fuck. “O-okay what did he say?”
“I dont know… I just, I’m so sorry. I apologized to him for writing him off but you never told me about you eating or your grandmother I’m so-”
Your ears run hot, “Oh god he told you! I’m going to fucking kill him, jesus christ Frankie”
“Andrea let me see you, I can't wait until the morning. I need you to know.”
“Javi… please. My struggle was my business and it wasn't you or whatever, I was going through a lot more than you leaving at that time. I-” Your voice dies for a moment but you continue before Javier could cut you off. “I would rather talk about this tomorrow, please Javi.”
He’s silent for a moment, a beat, in that silence your brain clicks, Oh my god I haven't even told him about my grandmother.
“My grandmother”
“Your grandma” You both say in sync but you allow him to continue. “Your fathers mother contacted you, why didn't you tell me?” He says softly.
It wasn't intentional, at least you don't think it was. You're not sure when was the appropriate time to bring it up without it seeming like you accepted this weekend trip for a free ride. “She wants to meet me, she lives in Baton Rouge. I just didn't want to feel like I was just using you for a ride.” You sigh, afraid to admit. The thoughts of maybe being accepted by your father or a grandmother or an aunt, anyone. Your breath shudders.  “I know… I know it's stupid but I’m so desperate for a family Javi.”  You whisper.
He lapses into another silence. In those seconds you grew embarrassed with yourself, with your desperation. You felt a pang of ungratefulness, you saying this to someone who watched his mother walk out. You think of the people who have no one. You think of your own mother whose parents passed while she was a teen. Why did I say that?
“We’ll go see her on our way back home.”
Your brows pull together “What?” You frown.
“You should never feel like you're using me, I’ll take you Sunday to meet your grandmother.” You're silent again in a space between disbelief and expectation until he pushes you over the edge. “And… I am your family, you will always have me. But I think you know that.”
Your breath dies again, your chin quivering out of control.
I love you. How desperately you want to tell him, Javi, I love you so much.
Tumblr media
Your mother is awake when you load your bags into Javier’s truck. You hear her rattling in the bathroom when you tie your shoes, you know she’ll watch from the window in her robe when you buckle in so when Javier grabs your bags you distance yourself, avoiding whatever affection he itches to show you.
You exhale when he settles in. He looks awfully handsome today, already dressed in conference attire. A lovely fitted mustard button down and black pants, his eyes flitting down to the glittering watch on his left wrist. And he tries to lean in again and you turn your head towards the window, and he gets the message. Still mutters curses regardless and pulls out of your street.
It takes 30 seconds to be on an empty dirt road and hes dangerously leaning to bite on your exposed shoulder, “Missed you querida, taste so sweet.” He grits and your redden straight down to your chest before letting out a ticklish giggle. You wiggle your hand around his head and tug his head off of you by the root of his hair. He looks at you with wet parted desperate lips and good god, you want him to pull over but–
“Eyes on the road agente.”
His eyes narrow and he shakes away his urge and continues down the road. You roll your neck, what an awful night of sleep you've had. You kick off your sandals and bring your knees to your chest. Leaning your cheek on your knee and you admire the man next to you. Sunrise splitting the pretty green trees, creating a lovely canary colored cast on the strong of his nose and eyes. His eyes, your stomach jumps, what lovely lashes on a man. You're envious.
It's silent until you're out of town and heading in the direction of George West, his eyes side glancing at you and double takes. His right palm covers your knee and pats, “Don't sit like that, it's dangerous.” Your lip quirks and you comply, remembering when he had said the same thing on your way to Liandra’s quince six years ago. He smirks at how quickly you obey, his calloused hand inching slowly up your leg and under your dress.
Your lip is between your teeth instantly and you part your legs. Hands at the end hem of your pearl colored dress.
Eyes still on the road he drags his fingers against your thin panties, your breath hitches as your buck your hips to give him more space, instead he slips his fingers in the space below, cupping you. The bumpy road jerks your core against his palm, you gasp and he chuckles.
“Javi…” You rub yourself on his palm, your free hand gripping his wrist. Your eyes fluttering closed, feeling the ball of his palm create the most necessary friction on your clit. Your panties ruined already, he must love the feel of the wetness seeping through.
His eyes stay on the road the whole time, “Hurry up, two more minutes and we hit a town.” He keeps his cool while you unravel next to him, inching towards an orgasm at dawn. And you let go of his wrist and run your hand up over your dress, needing as much touch as possible. You grip at your breast and hump his palm faster. This, this is quite the sight because despite your shut eyes you can feel Javier’s distracted gaze. “Christ, yeah baby let me see you.” Shamelessly you pull the top of your dress down, exposing your pretty peaked nipple and thats it.
Javier is moving his hand from under you and swerving the car off road. Thankfully these backroads won't see anyone but long haul truckers at this time because you're still so disoriented from the neared climax you don't think to fix yourself up but from the way Javier puts the car in park you know you wont need to fix anything. You're unbuckling and slipping your panties off instantaneously and he follows.
Unbuckling, unzipping and pulling out his erection. And to hell with thinking twice because the sight of him aching and twitching against his shirt has you scrambling on top of him.
His hands steading you as your hand slips between you, grabbing ahold of him with his tip prodding your entrance. You sink down, you moan softly but Javi is letting out a throaty rasp. Still you aren't used to the stretch of him especially from this angle. Your dress pools around the two of you, blocking any view of your bodies connecting.
No time to get used to this position, immediately he's driving his hips into you and you're bouncing, riding Javier. His hands gripping your ass, the windows fogging as the car fills with no sounds but grunts, whimpers and slaps. His mouth open and sucking at any inch of skin, finally his mouth suctioning your breast. Your hands tugs at his hair as you make a mess on his lap, the zipper of his pants will leave a mark you just know it. And you feel it, the pit, the dizziness, he feels you clench around him.
“C’mon Andrea, make a mess on me.” He grits, and you comply once again squeezing him tightly, leaking onto his lap. You're crying in pure pleasure and at your final call of his name he’s spilling into you, warm and just as messy.
He holds you tighter as the two of you float, still blurry eyed and dazed. You catch your breath together.
Like always you're so limp and fucked out that he takes it upon himself to disconnect the two of you and adjusts your dress. Planting sweet kisses in your hair, feeling empty and gaping you find it hard to move but he does it for you once again, guiding you back to your seat, buckling you in.
And like that you sleep for the next 3 hours of the drive
Tumblr media
“Six more hours querida… We’re in Inez… according to the map.”
You wake to his right hand tangled in your hair, supporting your neck. You take a few seconds to realize that you're curled up in the passenger's seat of Javier’s truck. Squeezing your eyes tightly adjusting to the full blown daylight, eyes darting to the time, 8:40 am.
“Oh my god, do you want to switch?” You panic, you hadn't even offered splitting the labor. The ride was nine and a half hours at the very least and even harder navigating with a map. You had never driven for longer than two hours but it seems Javier is used to this sort of commute.
His face screws in disapproval and his fingers scratch at your head. “Todo bien, you can take the last hour. We should arrive by 2, the social lunch is at 3 but we can skip that.”
You nod, rubbing your eyes letting out an annoyed noise when his hand slides away from its place in your hair. Back to both hands on the wheel, your eyes flash down to the skirt of your dress and you feel clean? Your eyes dart to Javier’s lap and he's changed into a brown formal pant. “Did you–?”
His eyes follow yours and land back on the rolling roads, he nods. “Yeah, I cleaned you up when you were asleep and I changed… not sure how I would explain to Agent Messina what the wet spot on my pants was.”
Your brows shoot high and you laugh, “Fair point…” A fleeting feeling of uncertainty brushes you at the reference to another agent. You were alright in social settings but you're a school teacher for crying out loud, you have no idea what sort of people you’re about to encounter. In your head you see yourself walking into a dining hall full of suited men whispering and beating around the bush when asked questions of their career. You picture Javier in that setting, how you've rarely ever seen that ultra serious demeanor and disinterested aura. Rarely, but you have seen it, you remember just how cold he can be when you think of him shouldering Xavier out of his way nearly a month ago. You think of how stern he can be with you at times. Why does the thought of him working such a dangerous job scare and turn you on at the same time.
“So…” You drag in between the silence, “What should I expect this weekend.”
“Well, today there's the DEA social lunch thing, they're holding it so the bell hops could take our things up.”
You wiggle your brows, “Fancy…”
“Yeah, well after that we can settle in but from 7 to 9 I have a mandatory conference with my new co-workers, Colombia co workers.” He clarifies and you nod. “Then we have the night to ourselves. The guys will probably want to get drinks but we do whatever you want.”
Your chest heats, you almost want to roll your eyes at him. “Whatever… Okay and Saturday?”
“I have my long conference, 10:30 am until 2:30 pm.”
You let out a low whistle, “Four hours, jeez. Is it top secret?”
He rolls his eyes, “Probably. Don't take it personally, you knowing I’m leaving because of Pablo Escobar is enough.”
“Yeah, yeah… and after that?”
“Right, it’ll be time just for us. French quarters maybe?”
You beam, “Yeah maybe. Are any of your office friends going away to Colombia?” The question leaves you before you can form a purpose for it. Sure you'd love to meet the friends he might've made in Houston but a small part of you worries some people there will be aware of the existence of Lorraine and they will be aware of you, not being her. Afraid of a possible awkward conversation, oh god who are you to Javi? How will he introduce you–
“I think two guys from my section should be coming along. Felipe, he’s likable and polite. Dominican guy, but there's also Julian… not a fan.” His hand goes for the cup holder, fishing out a cigarette and you narrow your eyes at him. “Will you light me?” He asks.
Still with a scalding glare you grab his light and wait for him to slip the stick between his lips. “I’m just being helpful but I don't approve.” You strike the flame with your thumb and light him up. He mumbles a thank you and continues.
“Julian is in his mid thirties, kind of upset about my age and all that. He also got into it with Lorraine at a Christmas party a few years back.”
“Oh… what happened?”
Confirmed, you're going to die. His co-workers have met his long term girlfriend and now he's bringing you… his… oh god, are they going to think you’re in some ménage à trois? You hear stories from your college friends about white collared men and their wandering hands.
Javier taps his cigarette on the window, his face wondering how to start this story. But he starts with all of it, “When I got moved to train and work with the DEA me and Lorraine were in a trying to make it work phase.” Drag, “You know she’s very outgoing but she can get real defensive when she has a drink in her system. Anyway we had argued the night before so tensions were high when I decided to bring her to our christmas party.”
Your brain flashes briefly an image of Lorraine holding your arms telling you you’re beautiful on New Year’s eve, guilt and shame bolt through you, you tune out a small portion of his story thinking of Lorraine and her kindness towards you.
“…Julian decided to comment on Lorraine’s outfit choice. I mean you know how she was, very conservative being pastors daughter but when she wanted to dress up she… you remember what she wore to New Years?"
Your eyes widen, “How can I forget!” Custom made orange jumpsuit, you could’ve dropped dead from jealousy that night.
“Well he made a comment about me letting her leave the house in her outfit.”
You scoff, “Well whatever he had coming he deserved it.” You murmur, you hated that. You know that it was typical for women to comply with what their partners want them to wear but not for your generation. That was the time of your parents, every girl now wants to dress like Madonna and it’s great.
Javier laughs, “Yeah he did… Lorraine straight up called him… and I quote, 'a lonely short man with the complex of a man who’s 6 foot'. And slapped his drink from his hand, got all over his suit.”
You burst out into a fit of laughter, imagining the face on this stranger. The two of you laugh together at the image, but once the laughs died you fell into that familiar space of trepidation. You bask in the light silence while your brain ticks off the uncomfortable feeling of missing her as a friend. The strange sting that maybe she’ll never want to speak to you again.
“Hey…” Javi calls, ashing his cigarette in the cup holder. “¿Todo chido?”
You frown, “I don’t know… it’s stupid.” Your gaze averts out the window, passing a mall and some rest stop. His hand reaches out to your knee giving it a squeeze of encouragement. Whatever, “I kind of feel guilty? I know you two aren’t together but there’s a part of me that still wants her in my life. I liked being her friend that year.” You find it embarrassing to admit but most things are out in the open now with you and Javi, you have no time to keep these little feelings to yourselves, it’s what tore you apart for so long.
Javier’s grip loosens and your frown deepens as he retrieves it entirely. You look to him this time and his eye twitches slightly, you know it does that when he’s keeping something hidden. No time for that. “What Javi.” You say sternly.
His head darts to you and back to the road, “Nothing…”
“Javi.”
“Alright. With Lorraine… don’t feel guilty. She had your mind made up about you once she started college. I think her friends opened up to what was right in front of her.”
You lips twitch in confusion, “What do you mean?”
Javier sighs, his hands gripping the steering wheel tight now. “Well… I suppose they made her realize that you were a part of our relationship failing.”
“Me?” You had no part in that, he told you they had problems before the two of you kissed, before. The whole time it was all you, your crushing and whatever. You now know Javi had feelings for you then but you thought it was a back burner issue, from the stories you’ve heard it seemed like Lorraine and him were just too hot headed to be together.
“Well me more-so but its easier to fester dislike for someone you don’t have to face every night, so ever since then she’s kinda built a dislike for you.”
Oh.
Your heart is stuck somewhere again, this time between relieved and sad. Sad that after all these years of being jealous you still craved being her friend, yet it didn’t go both ways you suppose. And relieved that she already disliked you instead of possibly dropping the, hi I know we were close while you dated Javier but now I’m fucking him!
“Never mind then…” You drag, “Well I’m sure giving her a reason to hate me.”
Javier shrugs, “Everyone hates us.”
You giggle although the thought is absolutely terrifying to you, “Yeah… that’s true.”
“We should talk about Frankie.” Javi pitches after your two hours of talking about everything and nothing. You groan and pull his hand to your mouth. Shaking your head you mumble into his palm.
“Can’t talk sorry.” He scoffs at your attempt and removes his hand, whatever… you murmur. “Okay… okay. You first, mine is too much.” And it was, you’d have to detail the side of your mother he may not know, tell him about how it used to be between you and Frankie and you’d have to tell him about the accusation from your mother.
Javi can tell it's eating you alive because he intertwined his fingers with yours the second the crease between your brows deepened. “He showed up to the house, I was scared shitless when he started the conversation with your name. The conversation… it didn't go the way I was expecting.” His voice is low for that last part, you comfort him this time, placing your free on top of the hold you two had. “I guess I hadn't realized how much of a bad friend I turned into once I left. I think I lost my way when I was in Houston, I pushed everyone to the side and I think the only person left without an apology was your brother.”
You recall the face your brother made the night Lorraine broke the Houston news. Despite being wrapped in your own panic your first instinct was to look at Frankie. Frankie stared off into the distance with the same face of worry he had when mama would yell at them, disassociating for a moment before Genie beams with excitement. He imitated a smile when squeezing Javier's shoulders in congratulations. When you really think about it, Javier had been your brother's only friend.
“He loves you a lot, you're his family. But we are all selfish, he deserved an apology but you cant torture yourself over being oblivious.”
And you swear you see Javier’s eyes welling, you want to lean over the console and comfort him but you leave him to it. You leave him to process, letting go of his hand. He reaches for another cigarette and you light it.
With the wrist of his smoking hand he rubs his eyes, “Okay… your turn.” He chuckles through a rasp of emotion.
You tell him all, about your father and how your mother only ever loved him and how your existence has always been a reminder of the heartache she felt that day. Javier holds onto your hand again when you tell him that Frankie was cruel to you until middle school, that he’d never comforted you, that Frankie softened up to you when Javi got in the picture. Javi couldn't believe that, it was true, no one had ever shown you kindness and Frankie attempted to follow suit. Instead it manifested in overprotection and control.
It ended with your grandmother, with your mother cutting you off and your crushing ache for– “I’ve never truly felt loved by my family, it always felt conditional. I guess I’m reaching out to my fathers side in hopes they’ll welcome me there.”
Javier stops at a red light and looks over to you. His mouth twitching in hesitation, “Regardless of what happens you will always have a family, no matter where we stand or if we hate each other in the next few months, you will never need to look for a family as long as I’m around.”
Tumblr media
Valet, fancy.
You itch to comment when the bell hop takes your bags. You explore the lobby a bit while Javier is a few feet away from you getting directions to the lunch they were both craving so badly. You hoped you were properly dressed, it was a favorite dress of yours, it’s pearl color and your sandals had a wedge.
The lobby was lavish, mosaic tiles, gilded pillars and beautiful bouquets of flowers at every turn. And it couldn’t get any better. You look up and are met with beautiful ceiling paintings and glistening chandeliers. Jesus.
“Andrea!” Javi calls from across the room and you make your way toward him. The man he spoke to was moving away to handle business elsewhere. “Everyone’s down this hall, apparently it’s more so a cocktail hour.” You groan, hungry as could be. He takes hold of your hand, in a public space, you stomach grumbles and you can’t tell if it’s from lack of food or the idea of being like this with him. He laughs, bringing a hand to squeeze your stomach. “It’s alright, I’ll call up room service later we’re just going to show face.”
Show face indeed, the room is packed. And you're a bit underdressed, dressed for lunch while everyone in the room were suited and in cocktail dresses. Your brows raising at the sight of men with guns in their holsters. Sure you're from Texas but open carry wasn't as common near you. Then again you're walking into a room of DEA agents. Javi squeezes your hand, “My co-workers are over there.”
Through the room Javier is given nods and smiles. You are too, men and women alike smiling and nodding at you too. Ahead of you was a tall woman in her 40s with shoulder length black hair, the only woman in the room with a suit. Messina, you assume, next to him is a tall dark skinned man with short buzzed hair in a gray suit. Upon arrival Javier’s face splits into a smile and he lets your hand go to hug his coworker. Felipe, you assume.
You're left smiling and saying hello to Messina. “You look good, Vaquero.” He squeezes Javier’s waist as they part. “Missing your cowboy hat.” He jutts his chin towards Javier’s cowboy boots. Javier shook his head and rolled his eyes.
“Whatever Yank.” Northerner, funny. For a moment you feel out of place, standing at Javier’s side without a name or acknowledgement until Felipe extends a hand out to you.
“Pardon me, I’m from New York but I do have manners. What's your name sweetheart,”
Your brows raise at the sudden attention, you take his hand and he shakes it. Instinctually Javier steps closer to you. “Andrea, nice to meet you.”
“Beautiful name.” He smiles and looks back to Javier with raised brows. Javier squinted in distaste and snaked his around your waist to pull you into him. You smile down at your feet with a blush from both the compliment and also the way Javier’s hand felt so large splayed on your waist. “So…” He wiggles his brows and Javier scoffs at his co-workers nosiness.
Javier looks at you briefly, “So…” He mocks, “This is my girlfriend Andrea.”
Oh.
It's disarming the label coming from his lips, you feel a heat rise from your belly straight to your ears and cheeks. A small part of you is kicking yourself for reacting to such a label but its beautiful to the ears.
So you were his girlfriend, huh.
“Well she’s beautiful, right Messina?”
Messina smiles, “Indeed, you can call me Claudia.” She reaches out and you take her hand, cold and soft, reminding you of the hands of your mother.
“Can I call you Claudia?” Felipe beams.
“No.” She cuts and Javier stifles a laugh. You lean into Javier giggling at the interaction.
“Where’s your girlfriend Felipe, the receptionist?” Javi teases but Felipe seems to be equally as amused.
Felipe smiles, “Fiancé, she's around somewhere.”
You look up at Javier who looks absolutely stunned at the announcement, “No mames…” He drags and Felipe shakes his head. He was definitely not kidding, “Congrats, wow.” Javi blinks, his eyes scanning the room.
“This is perfect, you two could get to know each other during our meeting.” Felipe waves his finger around the air. Quickly his smile fades, “Good god… Julian coming your way. Have fun, lets go Messina, we've had enough of him today.”
And like that the two of them sip their cocktails and leave you and Javi stranded. “Fucking assholes.” Javi chuckles before Julian comes into view and Lorraine was right. He was a short man, shorter than you. His suit hung loose on his body but he was awfully handsome and muscular. Although it looked a bit silly with his stature, you smile at him.
“Javier Peña, who’s this?” He says in a far grosser and irritating way, no way near the way Felipe asked. He stood with a glass in his hand. Javier’s face falls into that face he rarely shows you, his stone cold agent face.
You speak before he can for you, “I’m Andrea, his girlfriend.” You offer your hand and he laughs condescendingly as he shakes it. Clammy.
“Girlfriend?” He looks at Javier, “This one has a far better dress, a bit underdressed but at the very least not indecent.” He elbows Javier’s side, referring to Lorraine, thinking you aren't aware of whatever unfunny joke he’s attempting to make. Javier’s nostrils flare and before he says anything he’ll regret, you cut in.
“Well you might need to head to the tailor for the pants. And the jacket lacks… a stain of booze.” You tease right back. His face drops entirely. Javier’s head snaps towards you and his mouth splits into a smile.
He grabs your arm, “Alright, she’s had a few too many, we're going to our room.” He begins to drag you away and you giggle.
“I haven't had a drop!” You exclaim and he laughs, leaving Julian in the dust as he walks you through the room.
“You're crazy.” He shakes his head concealing his chuckle as you two exit the room. The air conditioning hits you hard once you leave the bustling room. In an instant he’s hauled you over his shoulder in the hotel hall, “Alright let's go have sex.”
You shriek from being off ground as he runs in the hall towards the elevator with you dangling over his shoulder.

Back in Laredo Lorraine calls Genie apologizing about not being able to attend her bachelorette party. Genie and Lorraine had stayed in contact all 6 years, close enough that Genie had Lorraine’s name down as a possible bridesmaid.
“It really is fine, i’ll be a dud anyway I can’t drink.” Genie jokes, she told Lorraine that she’s trying to get pregnant but not that she’s actually carrying. She excuses her new dry lifestyle on not wanting to gain weight before the wedding. In reality all she’s been doing is gaining weight.
“Yeah, yeah. Alright, how’s the wedding planning going? Almost a week, are you ready?” She beams, sitting on the counter top of the apartment her and Javi shared. She had half her things packed to come home for the wedding.
Genie chuckles, “Girl, that’s none of my business. That’s all Andrea and Ms. Diaz.”
Lorraine bites the inside of her cheek at the sound of your name. She wonders if you and Javier have seen each other since he went home or if you still held that fiery personality and kept distance.
“Andrea… How’s she doing?” Lorraine closes her eyes, a bit fearful of how it sounded.
“Oh Andrea? She’s good, teaching school and all that. She’s on a little weekend trip with Javier though. She deserves a break.”
Lorraine feels her cheeks heat in jealousy.
“Are they—? You know, together?”
She doesn’t care now, she feels it’s her right to know. Genie is silent for a moment and each second that passes Lorraine is angrier.
“No, they aren’t. You know they’ve always been close.”
“Well she’s always had a crush on him though, knowing Javier they’re probably fucking somewhere… that fucking man…”
“Alright, no need to speculate.” Genie interrupts. “It’s their business, but I’m highly doubtful.”
Lorraine scoffs and looks down at her growing belly. Her brows furrowing and a sudden wave of hope.
“Right…” She flattens her hand there, “I’ll talk to you soon.”

The last thing she saw were Triad agents, finally infiltrating the building they'd been occupying after they'd managed to hide for so long. It was the end, and all she hoped was that Oaklee could get somewhere safe. That was all that mattered, the life of her daughter and the future they dreamed of. And then the skies outside turned blood red, and everything changed.
Triad was gone. The building she occupied was no longer a burned out ruin but a fairly upscale boutique - even after the years on the run in the future, she knew good clothes when she saw them. The others that had been with her either hadn't made the same journey or had ended up elsewhere, because she was the only one facing a startled shopkeeper.
Mary Louise brushed past her without a word, pressing herself up to the window to get a look into the streets. Things were chaotic, but not in the same way she remembered. Mystic Falls looked almost as she remembered it from so long ago, and it was disorienting. It only made her miss Nora all the more, and for a moment it was difficult even to breathe.
But in the end she slid out the door and merged into a crowd who were running towards the town limits - which now just led into a whole other city. New Orleans, if she reckoned it correctly. Rather than keep running, though, she found an empty cabin and holed up to try and get her bearings. A stolen newspaper gave her a date - 2029. That in itself was dizzying, even without the merged cities. But the next day came word passed down through the others in the nearby cabins - a gathering, to which all were invited. It was her best chance to find out what was happening, and although the clothes on offer in the cabin were sub-optimal at best, she decided to attend all the same.
She'd walked in with her head held high, like days of old, and taken a drink when it was offered. "Are there any canapés on offer tonight? It feels like I haven't eaten in days." The question was directed at the server, but loud enough to be heard by anyone nearby.
