New Orleans Trip 2024
Hello! I finally have time to post about my incredible vacation to New Orleans I was able to have. It was a week long and that week wasn’t long enough! New Orleans is truly magical and full of history and culture (and ghosts!) and I miss it so much. From the food to the weather to the music, New Orleans is more than I could have ever imagined and I was able to visit it with my friends! @dreamofme9 and @amc-iwtv joined me on this dream of a vacation and we saw so much. Too much. I’ve been able to make a few collages full of our moments and all the experiences we had!
From walking the streets of New Orleans to taking the streetcar, we never stopped. There was just too much to take in! I could list every single place but I would much rather just share these photos and memories that I will forever hold close to my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as alive as I did during this week I spent with my beautiful friends. I’m blessed and I know it.
You may click on the photos to enlarge them. They hardly capture the true spirit of the city but they are gorgeous, and that’s enough for me to share all the places I went to and all the food that I ate! All the drinks that I drank! Amazing!

I need to go back. I will go back. My life wasn’t complete until I set foot in New Orleans and a piece of my heart remains there now, forever.

Boutique du Vampyre, 709 1/2 St. Ann, New Orleans (French Quarter), LA 70116

The French Quarter seems to be where vampires like to hang out and it also attracts vampires from around the world as well as mortals who are into vampires. The Boutique du Vampyre opened in 2003 and might be the only vampire shop in the world? I saw a picture of Rebecca Mikaelson of The Originals shopping at the Boutique du Vampyre but did not see any merchandise from The Originals.
Vampires inspired much of the merchandise in the shop. Many items are made by local artists. The shop offers custom fans, candles, jewelry, colored contact lenses, dolls, wooden stakes, bottled spirits, coffin shaped purses, books, posters, t-shirts, and artwork. There were a lot of bat-shaped things like leather bats you can add to your boots and bottle necklaces that hold “blood” or vervain. The shrunken heads were interesting ($250 for a museum quality replica). They also had Dracula posters signed by a descendant of Bram Stoker.
My pick:
Coffin earrings with bat shapes, $30, made by a local artist
The shop is small but pleasantly dark and cool inside. The Boutique du Vampyre owner also owns the New Orleans Vampire Café and The Vampire Apothecary. The Vampire Café is next to the Boutique and sells blood bags.
5 out of 5 stars

I am going to go to New Orleans for Halloween with my friends! We have been trying to pull this off for years now. Any recommendations for us mortals?
Congratulations on finally pulling it off! Organizing friends can be SO difficult....I would know. Try to get four vampires to agree on anything....they're all immortal idiots sometimes.
Anyway, go see the Saint Louis cathedral, it's beautiful and one of my favorite places in my city, and take a guided tour of Saint Louis Premier cemetery. Louis' family is buried there...
And of course, you must visit That Woman's grave at Metarie cemetery. Bring an offering! When I went last year there were so many pretty little things and mementos left. I left my hair ribbon, it was all I had on me, as I didnt know that was a tradition . This time I won't be taken by surprise!
Now, I can't tell you ALL the secret places where the vampires hang out...but I can tell you their mortal fronts. The Vampire Cafe is delightful...as is the boutique des vampires around the corner. I don't remember what I bought there ...I was definitely in a slightly -tacky- vampire-memorabilia -induced-fugue-state but it was SOMETHING. Louis bought a bat sticker in pride colors, I remember that much.
Now here's a secret. (I'm not sure how much of a secret this is, it's pretty easy to find on the internet, but I'M on the internet too, so I know about it.) There is a secret speakeasy called Potions, only accessible with a password. The best way to find it is to go to boutique du vampyre and browse around and eventually ask one of the employees for the password. They'll give you a little card telling you the location and password. It is a bit hidden! We had to wander around looking for it! I've heard it's a very open secret and they'll give the password to anyone, but other people have said they do "vibe check" a little. So...just be cool, darlings, as my favorite shirt says.
And the last thing you must do in New Orleans is...keep your eyes open, mon chèr. Louis and I are considering making a trip to New Orleans and annual tradition, and what better time than Halloween?

03.10.2023, New Orleans, LA
Royal St and Ursuline Ave // St. Louis Cathedral // Royal St // Gallier House Parlor // Gallier House // Gallier House Front Room // Café du Monde // Royal St // LaLaurie Mansion
As requested by anon, day one trip pics that represent the city how it actually looks! The biggest thing that's different from the professional photos (aside from the tourists) is all the street parking!! There really isn't any room for garages or parking lots in the French Quarter, so all the residents plus the tourists are parked along the street. I understand why, but it makes it very hard to get a nice picture. The historic 18th-century townhouses all have someone's Honda Civic in front of them.
Also this whole city is terrified of being sued by Anne Rice so it's all off-brand and public domain vampires with absolutely no acknowledgement of VC, which is pretty funny. 100% vampires, but no one will say the Lestat word.
The Gallier House is stunning, staged beautifully with period furniture and decor and as faithfully as possible. Our tour guide was lovely and extremely knowledgeable about the family, the historical context, and the house itself. (If you ever plan to visit, you do have to book a tour. They don't make that very clear on the website).
It was super exciting to see, but I was surprised by how small it really is as well as by the details of the facade. The "stone" pillars are actually wood and the metalwork is painted green, it's not brass or bronze patina. Tbh we agree that it's a great house but it would not be up to Loustat standards.
The LaLaurie Mansion was cool to see, but a bit underwhelming since it's privately owned and not accessible to the public. It looks like the other houses on the street, you would never know it has any special history to it. The upside is that all the houses really do look like that!! Everything outside the French Quarter is very much a normal city, but I was surprised at just how New OrleansTM it is when you're inside of it.
Café du Monde was really fun, but it's almost laughable that AR had Loustat going there regularly. It was 100% tourists and clearly not catered to locals. The beignets really were delicious though and I had a great café au lait. If you ever visit, absolutely do what we did and go after 9p. The morning line was around the block but we waited less than five minutes to order at night. I also suggest sweetening your coffee with the extra powdered sugar in the beignet bag. Beignet flavored coffee.
I can't speak for the summer months, but as of now we can say that the stories about the smell of NOLA are not true. It smells like nothing or like weed except for Bourbon Street which smells like weed and also fried food. No sewage but also no jasmine. Equal parts a relief and a disappointment. Don't worry though the Mississippi River is just as ickynasty as everyone says if, like me, you'd never seen it before.
We had lunch at Stanley's of New Orleans and even though it was right at Jackson Square, the food was fantastic and not bland touristy stuff at all. Frog legs taste very mild and a little fishy fyi. The Vampire Café was kitschy as hell but we had fantastic blackened alligator, great desserts, and really fun cocktails served in blood bags! Also recommend. The Boutique du Vampyre is right behind it, but, just like the whole city, it's only store brand vampires.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a vampire? Well, now you can find out at the Boutique du Vampyre. Arrive in New Orleans by night, and leave the rest to them. You will go to secret bars, dine exquisitely, only as a vampire would, (not on real blood, though), and experience the unknown. Or, you can go on a vampire catching adventure, after training in a vampire escape room, to capture & return the Casket Girl. (You can also buy lots of neat stuff.)
