Crit hehe.. get it, his name is a pun… like… Critter, or a Critical hit, like his fighting style… I’ll see myself out.

I jumped at the opportunity to draw my little bug here, tbh I mostly want to show him off LMAO. I accidentally might end up drawing some interactions between Crit and the BvZ boys, because I’ve had my little sona in the void for a while. I might as well start giving him some attention!! I’m just excited to see any other bounty hunters for this competition, because ya’ll… 🧎🧎🧎

I thought about what side I would be on and decided, neither, yep, I'm a fckin anti-hero, sort of like a bounty hunter to be exact :]

I would be RAINING DOWN chaos along the streets just for fun, and i would do it for some goods too!

But I WILL protect all of these kids, no matter who they are.

Sector V? Can handle themselves, but still need protection sometimes.

The DCFDTL? Top priority to protect.

Here he is!! My bounty hunter sona for GBA's August art challenge! Had a lot of fun designing him :]

Here's a bit more lore on the guy:

for being one of the oldest bounty hunters for hire, he's still able to do his work better than most of the youngins out there!

because of his experience, he's trusted to do more dangerous bounties that would otherwise kill an unprepaird hunter.

his preffered weapon of choice isn't actually a weapon! he uses all kinds of poisons, venoms, and other substances to kill or subdue his targets.

an old friend of Hipswitch, he'll find the wisdom and knowledge he gained from old age to be of great help to the main four.

Some fun facts below the cut!

- Khel doesn't have any children himself, but he does have 2 nephews and a niece! (He absolutely adores his niece the most)

- Tzarians are a venomous species! Their venom stuns their victim for a period of time, the duration changing from person to person.

- Tzarians are a matriarchal society, women are highly respected in their culture.

- Khel himself is a very kind person to those he befriends, oftentimes becoming a father figure to those who need it.

- his scarf was given to him by his mother when he was a kid. He keeps it with him as a reminder of her after she passed.

- the reason his home planet's years are different from human years is because their planet takes longer to orbit! His home planet orbits around a red giant, so it takes 7 human years to make up 1 Tzarian year!

- has lots of friends within the bounty hunter groups, including our good ol robo pal Hipswitch!

- he calls anyone and everyone 'kid' and 'kiddo'

Thinking a lot about my version of Sona in Duck Dodgers... She would basically be a princess where her family has a huge history of high-tech weapons made with their psychic powers. But she ends up having a "block" inside her, unable to use them since she was little... The only ones who know about this are the royal family. One day, someone ends up placing a bounty on her for a certain hunter, asking him to take her far away from her home planet in exchange for three hundred thousand space credits. And that hunter would be neither more nor less than Wile. I would like to think about how their interaction would be and how the relationship changes over time...

Meet Charon Fen, a Witch / Swamp Nixie (otherwise known as a 'Swamp Sleeper')! These creatures of the isles, much like their prehistoric ancestors 'Stone Sleepers', spend hundreds of years hibernating in the marshlands, connecting with the magic of the titan and the in-between realm in a spiritual slumber. When hibernating, Nixies will blend into the landscape, simply appearing as logs, moss or mounds of earth to the untrained eye.

Charon did just that. Sleep for a few hundred years before being abruptly awoken. Construction coven scouts rocked his peaceful rest whilst foraging for palistrum wood. The whole world was drastically different. Stepping foot into the modern day from the Deadwardian era would be daunting for anyone. But for Charon, nothing could be more scary than waking up in the distant future and seeing a familiar face. A familiar face he was 'friends' with hundreds of years ago. A familiar face who he knew the truth about. A familiar face who he didn't think would survive this long. The Emperor himself. Or, as Charon knew him, the lost human; Philip Wittebane.

Notes:

Most Nixies are far more daunting than Charon; all over 6 feet and comprised of solid woodland materials. Charon can cover his whole body in a hard wooden shell, matching his hands, feet and tail but that's just a protective exoskeleton he can manifest.

He doesn't have a coven sigil. He struck a deal with Belos that as long as he isn't given one, he won't expose the truth. It's not that Belos thinks anyone will believe him, but he agreed.

His Palisman is called Quag (short for Quagmire). Often gets called Quagington, Quaggle, Quack Quack. Lots of nicknames this one.

Belos wants to keep him in close proximity, just to keep an eye on him. Charon works as a bounty hunter who's also tasked with keeping the Basilisk experiments at bay and recovering escapees. Basilisks and Nixies remained enemies for countless centuries due to their disputes over magic. It's rumoured that their feuds led to the eventual extinction of the species.

I like to think there are other types of Nixies than the swamp ones. Freshwater Nixies and Saltwater Nixies. I will need to design them all one day.

He has gills on his neck and waist to help him breathe underwater.

he's so mean and cocky and I cried over accidentally killing a blue bottle fly today. We are not entirely alike but that's okay, I still love him. He's more of an oc than a sona.

His Dumbass Lore:

He's a tattoo artist that is very prominent in the underground market scene with bounty hunters and assassins and such n such... being largely known for being "the troll you go to for information", although they are often not without a high price.

He has a notorious reputation of never keeping his pinkie promises (which is!! very important in troll culture!) and even going as far as weaponizing them against other trolls.

He always somehow manages to manipulate trolls straight into a corner so that they have literally no other choice but to accept his pinkie promises. Whatever he promises, you know it's not going to happen.

He has a vicious silver tongue and cloying sugar sweet words, you cannot trust him.

He is also known for some other pretty shady stuff, like tattooing secret maps and codes onto people; as well as little clues that mark them as prey for other bounty hunters and assassins. (and ig troll trafficking since that seems to be a pretty big thing in the trolls universe for some reason??)

He was also the one that supplied V&V with Floyd

Evil evil backstory, let's go:

He used to be part of the Kpop trolls, but he couldn't sing nor dance (no big reason for it, he was just very bad at it). The other trolls in the tribe didn't shun or exclude him because of it, though. In fact, they all took it in stride and was quite accepting of it.

And yet.. ...... he was so jealous and angry that everyone else got to sing and be happy except him- that during a time of crisis for the tribe, he made a pinkie promise with the queen (that he did not keep) and ended up accidentally selling out the entire Kpop genre. Kind of a "if I can't sing then neither can anyone else" kinda situation... .. .....

ANYWAYS, so the Kpop trolls sort of went extinct, but not really. Everyone was just so dispersed and far apart that they couldn't come back together. Most were left lost, and suddenly genre-less; the Kpop bounty hunters being one of them :)

He didn't actually mean for the situation to escalate that much (he didn't realize the power a tiny little pinkie promise could have) so he went into hiding and adopted a new name and identity by fear of being tracked down and brought to justice. He has not learnt his lesson and still continues to make meaningless pinkie promises and ruining people's lives. (He has a bit of a God complex thing going on where he's like: if my fake promises can bring such destruction, imagine what else I could do.....)

Violette Burrows (She/Her): Rat equally full of trauma, but also goth sass. Finally feels like she found home after an entire childhood spent traveling the country with her parents for business. Car mechanic and drummer for BOY GIRL MISCHIEF (<3 with Riley)

Omen Poe (He/They): Raven that is very much the falco type. Employee of a local hobby shop, tsundere but if you called them that they'd punch you, and the biggest egg you'll ever meet. Guitarist for BOY GIRL MISCHIEF! (<3 with Finnegan)

Finnegan Oakes (He/Him): Red fox soft kind boy. Wildlife photographer and trumpet player, and the carrier of many family legacies. Has a bit of an obsession with with historical aircraft, despite being avidly against war. A baker at heart (<3 with Omen)

Alex Lyn (She/Him): Spotted hyena washed out uni student who's finally figuring out his life. Avid hockey player, occasional strongman competition participant and ever sleepy. (<3 with Harlow)

Harlow Reese (They/It/Xe): Black cat equally washed out on uni, but being so silly about it. A complete nerd and appreciator of butches. Occasionally competes in super smash brothers competitions, but otherwise generally collects old obscure manga and video games (<3 with Alex)

Jack Foxglove (He/Any): Wolf tired gayboy, and older brother of Riley. A kind soul looking to help others by studying to become a therapist. Very full of punk swag and an absolute role model all round

Kiera (She/Her): Dragon sleazy cursed artifacts saleswoman. Actually the result of a god's divine punishment turned gender euphoria. While what she sells is cursed, she more realizes peoples fantasies while delivering justice to those who abuse their money

Lizzy (She/They): Taur arctic fox and the result of one of Kieras cursed artifact sales. Originally down on her luck, becoming a taur allowed her to capitalize on the novelty of being one to attract customers for a wide variety of services. Often appears at parties and is very well fed.

Lucy Diggs (He/Him): Rabbit loaded to the BRIM with trauma. Caught in a world constantly at war, given a new headmate with lightning powers and then quickly thrusted into the spot of figurehead for a freedom fighting rebellion to topple the system that perpetuates it he's being so brave about it.

Allison Dudz (She/Any): Albino alligator ex military soldier and mech pilot. Holds down a refuge in the abyss for those who walk it. Is actively on the run by a military force called ELIAS and the sort of kind of parental figure for Lucy. Another figurehead in the rebellion

(Currently Unnamed) (She/Her): Grey cat full of yuri related injuries. Also ex military but then she like kinda joined back in a way under a new name. Fought her way up the ranks to become the head of ELIAS

VUL-TURE (It/Its): Robot bounty hunter thats also a bit of a girlthing. Sucks at its job like really badly but tries its best. Has tried to assassinate the head of ELIAS twice to absolutely no avail

Scribley (It/Any/All/Your Pronouns): ??? BADASS AND INSANE. A BEING BEYOND GODHOOD MADE OF PURE MAGIC. UNSTOPPABLE BY ANY KNOWN MEANS

Okay! So before I announce the winner, I want to give out some accolades to 3 honorable mentions!

I also want to preface this by saying a lot of you did a really good job. I just KNEW I couldn't pick one winner based on art alone which is why I added the writing element to make it easier on me. EVEN SO, you guys clowned me pretty hard by being decent writers too haha! What I'm saying is, even after the contest is over and didn't win, if you ever want to discuss making your sona work in a public forum for your own future writing and entertainment, my door will always be open to you! My universe has infinite timelines, so even if you don't make MY canon, you'll always have your OWN canon timeline! I suppose this is my cheeky little way of saying, you're always winners in my eyes. Thank you for making this contest probably one of the biggest ones I've ever had. I seriously appreciate you guys.

Alright, enough gushing, here's our honorable mentions! First up we have Axle by @/colorfulmax on discord! I found myself loving the backstory for this character, despite not much being said. It really fit in with the wild west vibe and it really made me think about how the violent tendencies that destroyed his home, may be something that has carried with him without his knowledge.

Next! We have Ali Cranton by @/kitkat1840 on discord! This character REALLY stood out from the others in design for being less clean and more gritty. It felt very inspired by the movie "Rango" which set the stage for the backstory! The character is also very "grandmother" coded both in design and writing, which I thought was a very unique touch. An old lady bounty hunter who bakes cookies? Who can say no to that?

Finally our last honorable mention is Bo-Que from @jinx-you-lose! Bo-Que wasn't a good businessman, but still had the desire to make money. Something that fits really well within the lore. Simple yet effective with a clean design to boot. And great hair too. I am jelly!
