Do you think about how silly (messed up) it would be if Draeke was able to watch over Castrel and Ash?
He would have to watch two of the people he was closest with (maybe not at the end, but he names his child after Ash. That counts for something I think.) playing cat and mouse for the years after his death, trapped in similar cycles of grief and pain.
Would he be angry? Would he be sad? Would he be vengeful? (Though I doubt he would)
Do you think Draeke watches his sibling as they mourn him? As she holds on to so much grief and fear and so so so much regret. Watching as Ash tries goes to scrub the blood off of their hands- repeating the same motions after nightmares or certain days when it rains (though those times the blood isn’t there- they see it. They sees it every day after it happened. He can’t *stop seeing it*.)
Do you think Draeke watches his husband -the person he spent so much of his time with. The kind, loving, important, wonderful person he fell in love with- chase and chase (and *hunt* and *track*) and chase Ash down, overwhelmed with grief and so *so* much anger. But in the process watching him leave the child he is hunting Ashril down to protect in a way? (It feels so much to me like a dad who’s off at work all the time. Maybe one who travels for work, who’s not home often so you give him things to take with him so you know he thinks of you. That’s what the letter feels like in my bones.)
Yeah no me neither.

Definitely don't think about how Marcel could feel the urge to fly south when it's becoming winter months. Definitely don't think about how a house in the desert could feel like a nice warm place to stick around for the winter and how a certain roadrunner would welcome him into their nest... Don't think about it...

Thinking about how when Ash says that they missed Marcel he responds by saying “good!” and that “that’s the correct answer”
Thinking about how panicked Marcel was when he realized that he missed her and how glad he must have been to hear him say it back

I am not versed in a ton of sherbert lore, but I submit a song for all of those who really really like the sherbertverse for consideration in how it fits various sherberts:
Come Away by Rose Betts
lil bit of what my brain sees it as below:
Oh come away with me I must leave today Dawn will come, but I will run And be never seen again
Various sherbert versions- more specifically Ashril mayhaps
There's nothing here but echoes It's a city full of ghosts A version of myself At every corner I knew most My footsteps turning rotten As my voice starts to decay I'll only be forgotten Like the shadows in this place
Quixis! Whether that's Midas or Icarixis, your choice-
So come away with me Won't you come away Dawn will rise, but this time I Will be never seen again Icarus- maybe to Ven, or to Rae, but the going away is going to Fable) Oh come away with me I must leave today Dawn will come but I will run And be never seen again
Could also be Ashril running?
I took you for a sailor For a man without a shore You put me in a cage It only made me want you more Prison duoooo I liked wearing the colours That you planted on my skin But none of it could keep you From a mistress like the wind
Could be Ashril, could be prisonduo, could be uhhh whatever EOD/event Sherbert is?
So come away with me Won't you come away Dawn will rise, but this time I Will be never seen again Oh come away with me I must leave today Dawn will come but I will run And be never seen again
Same as above, various sherbert versions Never, never, never, never seen again Never, never, never Krit, Ashril, etc-
I made it through the winter And I waited by the door But this city and my sailor They don't call for me no more My friends moved to the suburbs I'm the fool who stayed behind A flower in the gutter Seeing stars but losing time
Ashril, Icarus/Icarixis, Midas
So come away with me Won't you come away Dawn will rise, but this time I Will be never seen again Oh come away with me I must leave today Dawn will come but I will run And be never seen again
(Aah ooh, aah, ooh) Never, never, never, never seen again (Aah ooh, aah, ooh) Never, never, never Never seen again
Same as above
That's all!! thank ya

Lil more Ashril and Draeke thoughts.
Uhhh TW for short description of blood and death??? It’s like 3 sentences in particular Im looking at but Idk.
I’ve probably written like this before without the TW but take it anyways be safe take care of yourselves, all the things :]
Did Ashril run immediately or do you think they held Draeke as he died? Do you think they talked to him, apologized, held off their panic to give him a peaceful death? Do you think they told him they loved him one last time? Do you think they held his body tightly for just a moment after before running? Do you think they left him with a flower- a white tulip- one gripped in cold, limp hands?
Or- do you think they ran right after? Leaving his brother to die alone? Do you think it’s one of their biggest regrets, never staying in his final moments? Never saying goodbye? Never telling him she loved him? Too caught up in what they’d done, the lingering blood on their hands and left him to die alone in the freezing rain. His body and blood soaking into the ground for his husband to find later with the weapon they’d used laying bloody barely in reach of his hands? Or was his body never found, maybe ash went to him with Draeke’s blood on her hands and he snapped- forcing them out and *away* and far from the family that they will never again (even if they weren’t close- that just makes it so so much worse doesn’t it?)
I dunno. Thoughts, I’m having them.

O em gee chat it’s my birthday :0
Have something I wrote a bit ago I guess idk
(This was good practice on me writing two people with any pronouns so I hope it’s not too confusing on who I’m talking about at a time <3 It’s with Ash and Vast because I have thoughtsss :p)
—=+=— If you insist on being lonely —=+=—
Ashril was out exploring. She hadn’t gone too far out, and knowing how easy it was to get turned around they brought a compass with them this time.
They were flying above the islands when it started to rain.
The rain was fine.
(He didn’t like it, the water causing his feathers to stick together and their clothes to become heavy and constricting on their skin. It caused their hair to grow heavy, causing the way they normally wore it to become painful and wrong.)
She could deal with rain.
They land on a smaller island with a sigh, diving below one of the bigger islands so she can be free from the rain for a moment. He shook out his feathers, wincing as the water pulled some of them just slightly the wrong way. They squeeze some of the water from their hair, undoing the short ponytail to shake it out as well.
That’s when she hears the thunder. Taking a shaky breath as they count the beats before they see the first flash of lightning. It was still far away then. She would be fine.
It was just a storm.
It will pass.
They take another breath, shaking out their hands before taking off again.
He flies for around half an hour, anxiety long gone as they focus on weaving through the islands. When they pull up above them again, however, there’s a loud thunderclap echoing below where they’re flying causing them to jump- fumbling the easy flying they were doing and landing roughly on the island below them.
The storm must be on top of her then. Great.
A voice in the back of their head warns them not to fly like this, but they move for their flight crystals anyway.
As their hands reach the crystals though, lightning flashes brightly above them, a lightning strike hitting the single tree on the island behind them causing a loud crack as the tree breaks under the energy. Its branches catch fire easily, fire flaring up behind them sizzling in the falling rain though it doesn’t work to douse the flames.
He stands frozen in place for far too long in their opinion, eyes focusing on the flames in front of them. They shake themself out of it, shaking hands tight around her flight crystals and she takes off.
Gods they hated it. Thunder the sound of explosions and buildings collapsing, lightning causing fire and destruction in its wake and they have to run. They have to leave, they have to go they have to-
She reminds herself to breathe, breath caught in her throat causing them to choke on shaking short breaths. They breathed short and sharp, chest flaring in pain as they couldn’t get enough air in.
She has to run she has to gogogo-
They land back on their island, compass discarded as they go dig through their chests for anything useful.
Can’t take too much, it weighs you down. You can find easy materials on the way just get out.
Explosions and fire and people and anger- fuck they have to leave before they get caught. His hand moves to rub his chest wincing at the sharp pain his to short breathing leaves.
They end up not taking much, barely even taking enough food for themself as they launch off the ground again. They fly over the main area, using probably too many flight crystals in their rush to leave.
She ignores the way her communicator buzzes in her pocket. She continues to ignore the way the things continue to talk and ask and *yell*- tuning them out as thunder continues to rumble and lightning continues to flash even when it begins to grow faint behind them.
Too soon for their liking, they run out of flight crystals. They land on a large island stumbling into a run as they weave through a dark Forrest biome, Amethyst glows beneath their feet- shards shattering under their sneakers releasing sparkling bits of magic into the Forrest air.
Soon enough, they reach the edge of the island, skidding to a stop causing some pieces of rock and dirt to fall off the edge.
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck-
There were footsteps behind them.
She pulls out her axe, grip turning white as she turns around either ready to swing or dart- she glances off the edge trying to see where she could glide, trying to figure out where she would be able to escape another avian if need be.
She turns when the footsteps grow closer, wings flaring behind them to make them appear bigger than they were, tail swishing anxiously behind them and feathered ears flattened to their head.
Vast comes towards them hesitantly, clearly out of her element in what to do in this situation.
“Hey… uh, Ash?”
They let out a sound akin to a growl, abnormally sharp teeth bared in the magpie’s direction.
“Fuck off Vast” his voice comes out meaner than they expect it to, low and harsh and so unlike how they try to sound.
Vast’s brows furrow slightly, and her hands up just slightly in their view.
“No weapons. Not a threat.” They emphasize by pulling their weapons out and slowly moving to place them down beside her, hands in their view the whole time.
His eyes are locked on their hands the whole time, vaguely registering the pink and yellow beads hanging on it as her hands move back to their original spot in the air.
Her eyes narrow slightly, scanning their posture.
“Listen, I don’t know what spooked ya. I know you’re out of flight crystals and I know you don’t have the supplies to make a great axe when yours breaks. Which it seems like is soon.” Her eyes land on the axe’s splitting handle and blade dulled at the edges it needs to be sharp.
“That won’t make a great weapon if you’re planning to fight someone off, or fight off the creepers to get more essence.” She points out, face set into a frown as she observes his lack of armor and supplies.
They pay attention to their items now, observing the low amount of durability left on their axe as well as their lack of any armor (not smart, but when has she ever been smart enough to force herself to wear armor) and lack of resources to make really *anything* useful to them at the moment other than a crafting table.
He lets out a shaky breath, adjusting their hands where they sit over the hilt of her axe.
“Just… leave me alone. I don’t need you to help me, I don’t need you to talk to me, I don’t need anyone here right now.” Her voice is still sharper than they mean, but Vast seems to understand that. She relaxes her posture slightly, hands still placed high in his vision, and shakes out their wings with a sigh.
“I don’t really care if you insist on being alone. Something spooked you and I’m not exactly keen on leaving you alone in the state you’re in.” Her eyes look them up and down, his disheveled state seeming to cause more confusion in their eyes, and her mouth set in an unsure frown.
“Okay, listen. I’m not gonna make you go back home, but I’m gonna stay with you until you’re calmed down enough to do that. Sound good?” She tilts her head ever so slightly.
They hesitate, but give her a weak nod. He puts his axe back into the loop on their belt, running shaking fingers through their still-damp hair.
“Okay. Are we… good now?” They move their hands slightly down. When he nods she does as well, hands falling to her sides. “Okay.” She nods again, holding her hand out and gesturing for them to come closer.
He hesitates, glancing back to the lower islands behind them with a tight frown. she turns back to Vast and glares at her hand for a moment before moving to take it- Vast pulling them away from the island edge before turning and gesturing back to the Forrest.
“Wanna just… walk till you feel better or something?” She crosses her arms over their chest.
He nods. “Yeah. Walkings good.”
And so they walk. Vast talking about various happenings around town, going through some of the things Rune and Sylph had talked about, to Gaverins new clothes she’d shown them.
Soon their breathing slowed to an acceptable rate, matching the rhythm of their footsteps against the grass. She didn’t feel trapped anymore, no more energy and adrenaline thrumming through her bones with no outlet.
Vast seemed to notice, soon directing the conversation back home to their pigeons, their small desert island, and their plans for the post office.
When they reach the other end of the island Vast turns to them holding out a stack of flight crystals for them to take.
She gives them a grateful smile, taking the crystals and shaking out their wings again looking to Vast again.
“I’ll follow you.” He mumbled, gesturing out into the void between islands.
Vast nods and takes off, crystals causing a dim glow behind her. He turns back to the island for a moment, before turning and following Vast back home.
They land at the high point of their desert island, landing carefully on the dry grass. Vast landed in front of them, crossing their arms with a lopsided smile.
“I take it you feel better?”
He laughs but nods. “Yeah, actually. Thank you.”
Vast nods.
“If you ever want to talk… I guess I’m here?”
Ash laughs, “You don’t sound very sure about that.”
“Oh shut up. I’m trying to be nice. Do you not want me to be nice?”
They laugh again, “Yeah. I appreciate that though.”
Vast nods, backing out towards the entryway. “Yeah. I’ll see you soon then, Ash?”
They nod. “Yeah. You too Vast.”
She doesn’t flinch this time when the flight crystals go off.
