Definitely don't think about how Marcel could feel the urge to fly south when it's becoming winter months. Definitely don't think about how a house in the desert could feel like a nice warm place to stick around for the winter and how a certain roadrunner would welcome him into their nest... Don't think about it...

With the funeral coming up, I figured it would be a good time to share some of my Lovebirds thoughts.

Marcel 100% inspired Ash to be a better person. Going from regularly burning down buildings to actively making new ones is a massive change, and one that seems to have been brought on by Marcel.

(I wonder if Ash laid awake in bed, staring at their ceiling and asking the universe if they just hadn't been good enough to deserve Marcel? If he might've still been alive if they'd just worked harder to redeem themself, and been more deserving of his love?)

Marcel was a source of comfort for Ash. He'd had a large part in building Bright Step, which was the physical manifestation of safety: a safe place to settle down, build a nest, fall in love... not to mention the only place they seemed to be able to hide from Castrel.

Marcel's entire thing is building bird sanctuaries.

Ash and Marcel literally built a sanctuary together.

I think that's a big reason that Ashril didn't run away when Marcel died.

Marcel might be gone, but the physical embodiment of the safety he provided still exists. Both the architecture and the community of Brightstep are the fruits of everything he was and everything he did. In that way, Marcel will continue to live on through Brightstep.

Building on that, I predict that Marcel's death is going to herald the end of Brightstep's sanctuary. The community is going to start to fracture without him there to hold it together.

I for one am super hyped to see everyone struggle :D

Ever since the BoundSMP Dojo opening night, I have been thinking about how differently each character fights, and I'm *shaking* because of it-

Ash: Focuses on speed, always moving. Takes all opportunities to hit. Goes for multiple quick strikes, aiming to slow the opponent and heighten her main advantage. Uses quick footing for unpredictability

Rune: Has felt helpless before, and is now wholeheartedly determined for it to not happen again. Goes for strong offensive hits. Relies on their mechanical arm for both offense and defense, which can be quite the advantage if the opponent is unaware of it beforehand. Has something to fight for, now more than ever

Taliesin: Acts more on the defensive side. Tends only to attack when struck upon first. Thinks outside the box, stays witty even in the middle of a fight, commenting to distract the opponent (even if not intentional). The mask helps both to hide his emotions and as an intimidating factor (which is one again most likely unintentional, but it works)

Pietro: The way she holds herself out of combat can be very misleading, for they can have both the height and strength advantage when he decides to show it. Can either be a smaller target or an imposing one, depending on the situation. Focuses on powerful swipes that can easily hurt, with both talons and weapons, though they worry about causing harm to people she cares about

Elwood: Very observant and calculating, quickly makes strategies with the information he gathers. Looks for weaknesses before attacking. Seems to make themself look like an easier target on occasion, but only to let himself or someone else have a better shot at the opponent when they get closer. Seems more proficient for long range attacks rather than close combat

Erin (with insider knowledge for this one): Mainly focuses on getting crits and finishing the fight quickly. Tries to hit only when she's sure of her shot to save energy (she has the most fighting experience with axes, and has been fighting mobs by herself for years now) Has quite some skill with dodging opposing attacks (strain in her left shoulder prevents her from effectively using a shield for too long) Not used to opponent actively dodging her attacks

Armor: Obviously very skilled from training with the Avicane. Well rounded fighter, skilled in both short and long range. Stays near his opponent in close combat to mess with their perception, main focus is on offense. His reptilian traits give him an advantage, and he knows how to fight effectively with them, making him able to use unexpected attacks and dodges. Fights with a purpose, almost predator like sometimes. Has been shown to go for the throat

Vast: Also very well trained by the Avicane. Skilled in pretty much all fighting aspects. Very knowledgeable with form, techniques, and weak points. Proficient with weapons, hand to hand combat, dodges, and dives. Aims to subdue more than anything else. Has recently been tanking more hits than usual due to a lack of feeling, which is gonna be causing some strain to her body

This is mostly from rewatching the streams and having brainrot about our birbs :3

And fucking kudos to the Artful J. Renegade for that 1v1 fight we TIED IN. I didn't even know that was POSSIBLE

Thinking about how when Ash says that they missed Marcel he responds by saying “good!” and that “that’s the correct answer”

Thinking about how panicked Marcel was when he realized that he missed her and how glad he must have been to hear him say it back

Do you think about how silly (messed up) it would be if Draeke was able to watch over Castrel and Ash?

He would have to watch two of the people he was closest with (maybe not at the end, but he names his child after Ash. That counts for something I think.) playing cat and mouse for the years after his death, trapped in similar cycles of grief and pain.

Would he be angry? Would he be sad? Would he be vengeful? (Though I doubt he would)

Do you think Draeke watches his sibling as they mourn him? As she holds on to so much grief and fear and so so so much regret. Watching as Ash tries goes to scrub the blood off of their hands- repeating the same motions after nightmares or certain days when it rains (though those times the blood isn’t there- they see it. They sees it every day after it happened. He can’t *stop seeing it*.)

Do you think Draeke watches his husband -the person he spent so much of his time with. The kind, loving, important, wonderful person he fell in love with- chase and chase (and *hunt* and *track*) and chase Ash down, overwhelmed with grief and so *so* much anger. But in the process watching him leave the child he is hunting Ashril down to protect in a way? (It feels so much to me like a dad who’s off at work all the time. Maybe one who travels for work, who’s not home often so you give him things to take with him so you know he thinks of you. That’s what the letter feels like in my bones.)
