i just spent an entire car ride thinking about the canonical gender and anatomy system in exorian society. nobody asked for this but here it is!

Pronouns: Pronouns are unaffiliated with physical traits, sex, or gender identification. Pronouns are a personal choice, or what your caretakers referred to you as. Changing these are not a big deal, and it isn't uncommon for Exorians to cycle through theirs or use multiple.

Anatomy: "Bite nobody asked for this" TOO BAD. Exorians are like any other mer -- reproductive anatomy varies depending on a multitude of factors, largely the aquatic characteristics. Some Exorians are more mammalian, while some are more aquatic in reproductive processes. HOWEVER. Exorian sex traits don't always align "properly." Exorians can be born with a variety of genitilia -- some for carrying young, some for giving young, some for both, some for neither. Some Exorians are born with the internal organs for reproduction but not the aligned external ones. (For example, born with a uterus but not the associated genitilia) Intersex (for lack of a better term) and infertile Exorians aren't uncommon and there isn't a prejudice one way or another against them.

Across Aquatic Species: Exorians, and I imagine other mer, can't reproduce with Exorians with entirely different aquatic species. If a fish and dolphin mer tried to reproduce, for example, it wouldn't work. Same with mammalian and mollusk, etc. That doesn't mean they can't be mates or companions, just that they're physically incapable of making more Exorians.

Mates vs. Companions: The companion system has always been loosely defined intentionally, because... that's how it works. Exorians don't have a concept of sexuality or love the way other merfolk do simply because it's not that easy for them anatomically or culturally. Companions are the selected individual (or individuals) an Exorian has deemed worthy to be by the side of. Every companionship is different: some may do physical affection, intimacy, or even become mates. Not all companions are mates. Mates are specifically there for reproductive or emotional purposes. Not all mates are companions, but they usually are. Some types of mer among Exorians have courting customs with their mates (fun fact, mer!Bite's family does mating bites!), but there's not a one universal one. Mates don't have to be of the same type of aquatic creature but usually are.

Gender and Sex: Don't really exist the way they do in human or overworld terms. There are too many different factors in the biological make up of Exorians and too many varients to make a list of gender identities or sexes. Some grow facial hair, breasts, etc., but it doesn't really correlate to whatever is in their pants lol.

Sexuality: Same as above. Your value as a good companion or mate is determined on how impressive of an Exorian you are. Sure, some folks have a type, but it's not based on gender or sex lol.

I love this movie too much for it to not be the smallest bit gay. Cannot make the birds gay because it's a plot point, but imagine a woman from Minnesota and a female scientist going on a mission to take down an animal trafficking empire while stumbling over their complicated feelings for each other

I love having a niche interest so that any time I want to rant about something exciting happening with it I feel the need to justify why it's cool and what it actually is rather than what people usually think it is...

Like oh I really am into minecraft lore and it's cool because there is so much world building and character development and sometimes there's art put alongside it to show things that can't be demonstrated as well in the medium so instead of just people playing block game it's people creating in-depth emotionally tragic stories that honestly can be more intriguing than normal tv shows. It's also cool because they discuss concepts and represent minorities in ways that are so usually avoided in mainstream media and so they just act as a comfort and just a cool thing to invest time in... anyways two of the characters I was shipping are gay now pls look at this cool art of them and be happy for me :<

Definitely don't think about how Marcel could feel the urge to fly south when it's becoming winter months. Definitely don't think about how a house in the desert could feel like a nice warm place to stick around for the winter and how a certain roadrunner would welcome him into their nest... Don't think about it...

I have talked about this in the discord but consider that Rusty Stars could be really good as not all just romantic relationship. Vast and Rune? definitely romantic. Vast and Armor? I don't think they would ever not end up romantic should they ever finally think about how they both like each other and communicate

But! While not every person in a polycule needs to be dating every other person I feel like Rune and Armor could be good as a QPR. I don't know if it feels like they are really heading in a romantic direction at this point. But they could probably talk to each other for hours about cool science things (Let Armor find a way to express his interest in it without it feeling like it is always associated with Aloy!!) and I'm sure that there are other reasons that are escaping me now...

Regardless, consider it with me :D

I'm not often one for promoting ships HOWEVER I will keep spreading Rusty Stars propaganda because I simply love the idea of it. Rust is great, Vast and Armor don't understand the concept of polyamory yet, but they *could*. It would be good... And even if it doesn't happen I will hold the idea of it in my littol hands

The fall from hopeful revolutionary to prison labourer is a hard one. Fer's world has shrunk from the whole damn universe to this anonymous asteroid and the four other convicts who share it with them. It's a fitting end, for someone who used to wish on stars but now can only seem to collect endings.

Not to say that Magnus Cadere and Aloy Abernathy definitely had to have had a sort of bromance going on when they were younger, BUT just imagine it with me for the purposes of non-canon ships...

Does them being gay excuse them being horrible fathers? No. Do I think that it could have inspired some of Aloy's hatred toward how Vast was doing better than Armor? Yes. I'm assuming they were around the same age because their children are around the same age so for all intents and purposes they grew up together. Who's to say they didn't have some strong feelings for each other? Who's to say they don't experience a little thing called internalized homophobia?

And the birds are gonna be windcan or I guess skyclan(who I kinda forgot existed until this moment). Cause they’re birds.

And mages kinda give thunderclan but I also think the hunters give thunderclan.

I also think the vampires would be shadowclan

(Yes I know this is all very obvious sounding/silly)

But like I don’t know what the mages or hunters could be if not thunderclan. Unless maybe mages give windclan? I don’t know I don’t really feel like they do. And I don’t think there’s enough cover on the plains for the hunters to live (does that make sense)

Unless like the hunters are a super secret 5th option that isn’t one of the clans /silly

And honestly could be miss remembering a bunch about warrior cats it’s been a long time sense I’ve had a proper hyperfixation on it.

I love being a lizard in Armor's chat and full well knowing that we're probably a similar situation to Vast's chat. Does this mean that somewhere in the universe of Sky Bound that Aloy Abernathy found lizard people? And if so, do they run the shadow government? The people have to know.
