Je suis pas morte, les gens! 🥳

Depuis longtemps je suis fascinée par le Tarot, et depuis encore plus longtemps je suis passionnée par La Quête d'Ewilan. Donc logiquement, il fallait bien que ces deux intérêts se rencontrent. Après une première tentative de liste de cartes, et deux ans à ne plus penser à ce projet, je viens de m'y remettre!

Attention, je ne garantie absolument pas que ce projet aboutira... mais j'espère vraiment vraiment que je le mènerais à bien ^^

Voici la liste des cartes prévues:

0- Le Fou/Grand Pas: début du voyage, découverte de nouveaux horizons, changement, opportunité à saisir

1- Le Magicien/Ewilan-cercle noir: apprentissage, grand potentiel, exploiter son potentiel, maitrise des quatre éléments

2- La Grande Prêtresse/Ellana: connaissances arcanes et mystiques, clairvoyance, intuition, compréhension des lois intimes de l'univers

3- L'Impératrice/Elicia: figure maternelle, création, nature - c'est surtout parce que aucun autre personnage ne correspond

4- L'Empereur/Bjorn: figure paternelle, confiance en soi, autorité - Edwin marcherait mieux mais je voulais avoir Bjorn quelque part et c'est là qu'il allait le moins mal

There is no way that woman isn't queer. The whole sabre badassery, the sitting sideways, the LIKING WOMEN ?! That's a sapphic officer.

On to Kamil :

Side-character means barely any facts/canon personality, wich means I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT. I don't even think she has a canon appearance except having grey eyes (?).

She is a canon badass tho, really good at what she does. And what do we do when we encounter a badass woman ? Ship her with another badass woman.

I don't remember my exact calculations based on canon/extrapolation, but I find they'd be of similar age around the time Ewilan spends at the Academy.

Why is it that cis male writers who write fantasy always put women in horrible situations? Why is it that every woman is either "at home" or a whore? Why did I have to get jumped by the freaking 13 yo MC getting sloshed at the 90% mark and raping a 20-something whore as his first time? Fuck, she was crying the whole time and the only thing that happened to the MC was getting the disappointed glare of his mentor who supposedly thinks women are equal to men.

Fuck that.

Why do male writers always have women raped in their fantasy books? Tolkien wasn't very feminist at all, but at least, his women didn't get scorned. Or raped.

i think Akaashi would leave Kenma little treats for his streams that become real show-stealers for his fans, and they start awaiting them eagerly. but the downside is they also reflect Akaashi's moods of the day. feeling happy ? he cooked Kenma's favourite food (he is a mid-tier cook but the effort is there). was work horrible ? he's left a book on how to fake your death. handwritten annotations on how to do it better

comments that point out something specific. an emotion, a line, where they were / what time it was... always makes me go "woah. someone is reading it. 30 people in my house rn"

many such cases !!!! but i'll be good and only mention Les Mondes d'Ewilan (link in french bc this is Not available in other languages... Pierre Bottero has barely been translated at all !!!!! his english wiki page is very charming if a little empty)

this trilogy has it all: part of a wider universe, rich lore and worldbuilding, very creative (main girl's power is literally imagination. i cannot make this up), obviously written for children but with clear poetic intent... these are the first books that made me pause and read back sentences, see how they worked, why i loved them so much. piecing out the backstories, what happens with the secondary cast, where the plot is going, it was all so incredible and nurturing at a time where i was very lonely. to this day i'm very inspired by the universe of Gwendalavir and Bottero's writing in general !!

i've met him once, before he passed away in 2009, and he was incredible with kids. here and here are some interviews he did. the second one has his thoughts on being catalogued as writing "for kids", and if he minds that when he's also read by adults, and i really appreciate his take on it ("not at all. i write whatever i like, and i'm lucky my audience is only getting wider. i don't care about those kinds of labels")

Gwendalavir tarot - 16: The Tower

Progressing slowly but surely on the Gwendalavir tarot! Credit where credit is due, this is almost entirely copied off a page from the comic adaptation. I can draw people from scratch but I draw the line at derelict underground cities.

Okay I'm tempting something : portrait of an asoiaf/F&B character + a memorable character from my childhood that makes me think of that asoiaf/F&B character. Here, we have fave Daenerys Targaryen and fave Ewilan Gil' Sayan (also Camille Duciel), from the French series Ewilan's Quest (by author Pierre Bottero). They're similar...well first appearence-wise Ewilan can be said to be very Targaryen (or very fantasy-protag, honestly), with blonde hair and beautiful purple eyes. They're both young prodigies and the actual hope of their world, despite the presence of male alternatives (and they have a complicated relation to their home, both having grown up away from it, knowingly or not). Like Dany, Ewilan is one of my favorite fantasy characters.

Story and official art for Ewilan :

- Girl with shitty adopted parents discovers she has magic and comes from another world - okay 80% of fantasy for kids and teens used to be like that - and proceeds to save the day with her band of fantastic friends and mentors despite her older brother being the one supposed to fix things back home - Dany/Rhaegar (?) except Matthieu, Ewilan's big bro is nowhere near as charismatic as Rhaegar. The writing really is a big part of the charm.

do you have any fantasy series outside of zelda you like/recommend?

I'll be real, I've mostly been in the sci-fi trenches this last decade. My sudden swing back to Zelda and fantasy was extremely unexpected in that regard.

I guess, beyond LOTR (I grew up on it, my mom was a huge fan and would read the books to me when I was six year old --so it did pave the way for sure)... I think I want to recommand a rather obscure french series for children/YA that is sadly unfinished as the author passed away over a decade ago, maybe not translated (??) and has its fair share of issues honestly, but the series "La Quête d'Ewilan", "Les Mondes d'Ewilan", and then later "Le Pacte des Marchombres" (and the others) were hugely impactful when I was growing up. It's a french series about a classic isekai scenario and a really interesting magic system based on imagination, great female characters and a tenderly written black teenage boy love interest that I also love dearly, snappy action scenes, genuinely interesting thoughts on balance and the nature of love and freedom (especially in Ellana)... I'm not sure if it has held up the test of time as it's been a while, but I have really fond memories of this series and it was great to grow up on this.

also the *original* cover artist for these had a very unique and impactful visual style that I think are really cool (they were re-edited later, and. I hate the new covers with a passion, so not sharing these)
