makes me want to die a little bit how getting cosmetic surgery/filler/botox is constantly getting pushed as some act of female empowerment

Literally one of the most magical feelings on earth when a trans girl trusts you to do her makeup

I can't believe girls my age and younger are getting
"preventative botox"
I just hope I get the chance to grow old with my partner without too much pain,
embrace my gray hair I'll inevitably grow
and maybe someday even hold my grandchildren with wrinkly loving hands.
We shouldn't be scared of looking our age🩷
Growing older
is a privilege

everyone on tiktok is using that old age filter and being like NOOOOOO I LOOK HORRIBLE and the filter makes them like middle aged at best. i tried it and i looked exactly like my grandma and it made me cry. i haven’t seen her face in 9 years but someday i’ll look in the mirror and it’ll be right there.

One of the things about hitting a certain age, and all you women-identified people will have this happen, is watching female celebrities your own age hit the specific crossroad where a choice has to be made. Do we age gracefully, or do we make ourselves look like a wax figure at Madame Tussauds? You get to see people your own age or slightly older than you becoming living examples of the uncanny valley, all the while you continue to age like a normal human person. Like yeah, there has and will always be women in hollywood who get work done that makes them look weird. But there's something specific about seeing people who are your contemporaries start to do it.
I am of course, mourning whatever the fuck Kristen Bell has done to her face.
Not the worst example of face-tinkering, but noticeable to the point where I literally saw her in a clip last month with some other celebrity and did not recognise her. I have been watching her in things since we were both in our early 20's. It's safe to say I am very familiar with her face. And I am an adult woman in my early 40's. I know what women in their 40's look like. it isn't that I am reacting badly to her aging. It's the fact that she is starting to look like every other woman who has had similar work done. Like they all become vaguely related, one big horrifying family that can't furrow their eyebrows.
I don't want to judge her for it. I know I cannot possibly comprehend the pressure she is under to do this. But I guess I am mourning for her? It feels like a loss to me. Yeah it's just another hollywood actress who has had work done, but it feels like a commentary on how I'm going to age. And the value of faces like mine, and how hard it is to see them represented. It feels like being erased. When I actually fucking adore every line and mark. I've earned them. I will continue to fucking earn them.
And so I salivate over seeing actresses like Judy Davis, who looks every year of her 69 years. (and who unsurprisingly, is not in a whole lot of stuff nowadays). and Hannah Waddingham, who I desperately hope continues not to do weird shit to her face. And yet i wouldn't blame her if she eventually does crack and joins the rest of them. Because it's brutal out there.

always disheartening to see so many women who would call themselves feminists still willing to go to the mat for plastic surgery. "it's their bodies and their money! don't shame them!" okay....so you don't want to interrogate at all why an increasing number of women are getting elective surgery to live up to inherently racist, ageist, and misogynistic beauty standards?

It actually baffles me how people are bashing the women on all the reality tv shows for being unnatural. We literally live in a world where women are constantly being bashed for aging or gaining weight and then they wonder why things like Botox, fillers, and ozempic are trending.
Society is putting so much pressure on women to look and be perfect, and then when they spend thousands of dollars to maintain a youthful and thin look, they are still criticized. No matter what women do, it is never enough.
Instead of judging the women who are pandering to the patriarchy, we should be asking ourselves why they feel so pressured to change their natural features in the first place.
The conventional "beauty" ideal is constantly changing in forms of "trends", and only for women.
It is society that is the problem, it is patriarchy that is the problem. women are victims to the patriarchal system and we need to stop bashing them for falling victim to such a toxic system.

Reading old magazines really puts into perspective the way expected beauty maintenance for women has been slowly amping up over the past 30 years
