i'm so tired of this push and pull we have every now and then over who would be the suave casanova and who would be the gameless loser when buck and eddie first get together. like i get it's fun to think about but it's just unrealistic. there is no world in which both of them aren't reverting to a teenager giggling and fumbling their way through their first meaningful relationship. they are both becoming the most pathetic men alive when they get together. eddie's never been in a relationship that hasn't felt like a performance and now he's staggering through this play without his lines improvising against someone saying "no but" instead of "yes and" because buck has never been with someone who means this much to him, who loves him this much, who he absolutely cannot lose. so he's following a script to which he only knows, or hopes he knows, the ending to (happily ever after) but he's just guessing his lines along the way. they're both going to be accidentally flustering the other a hundred times a day just by existing. they'll be in a permastate of blushing to the point of inventing new shades of pink/red. they'll both be pulling the most cringeworthy moves out there and laughing until their sides hurt about it. but crucially this is doing it for them both Big Time. they're getting sooo horny about how lame they are for each other. it's all about the give and take. it's about the balance.

eddie leaves, and buck drives him to the airport. we get a parallel to buck telling him goodbye just like with abby, only that buck feels like this is it this time. he won’t be waiting for eddie because eddie isn’t coming back. and you can see they both have a hard time saying goodbye, but they’re both repressing their feelings like hell. “call me when you land.” “yeah yeah. maybe i’ll get chris to call you too when i see him.” they do a bro hug. pretend they’re not about to cry. eddie says, “right. um. see you around, buck.” and turns to leave.

but buck breaks his composure then, reaches and pulls eddie back into the biggest, tightest bear hug he can manage. because if he doesn’t get to have eddie around anymore, then at least he wants a proper hug. but then he realizes they’re locked in a hug for a moment too long, so he pulls away with a sniff and tries to apologize. but then eddie’s the one grabbing him, because plot twist, he wasn’t done with the hug either, so they embrace again like they don’t want to let go of each other ever again. but then there’s a call for eddie’s flight and he really has to go. so they finally break apart (but you know they hands linger, because losing each other’s touch is one of the worst things right now) and turn to go their separate ways.

cut scene, eddie boards the plane, sits down in his seat with an absolutely miserable look on his face. rubs at his chest absent-mindedly, because there’s a pain there that’s more profound than it should be, but he can’t quite put a finger on where it’s coming from. a middle-aged lady is sitting next to him, misinterprets this for a fear of flying. tries to start a conversation, eddie just nods along politely, until she says,

“you know, you’re really lucky to have that boy waiting for you.”

“hm?”

“oh, forgive me. i happened to see you with your boyfriend when you were saying goodbye. i didn’t mean to pry, but you caught my attention.”

and eddie, who still has a hand to his chest, suddenly freezes. stares into the distance, realization dawning to his face. oh. oh. that’s why it hurts.

Buck: You can't just waltz in, and act like you've been part of the team on your very first day here. Screw you Diaz.

Eddie, biting his lip: I mean, you can if you want.

Buck: What?

Eddie: I actually said that out loud, didn't I?

thinking about chimney and eddie as brothers-in-law because they would be SO silly. their dynamic is already perfect but add in that extra sibling component? Mayhem. eddie would be 10x more torturous to chim, chimney would be 10x more indignant to eddie, AND they’d both bond over their shared buckley love interests. also there would inevitably a scene at some point where chimney nudges eddie and goes “buckley’s, right?” and eddie laughs along before both maddie and buck turn around to give them a Look that leaves the both of them begging for forgiveness. i Need it.

I need codependent Danny/Jason as a little treat (for me) and I love the idea of them having some sort of instant connection the moment they meet (bc ghost stuff idk)

Danny who's been dropped in Gotham with no way home (alt universe??) and he's been here for 36 hours and having a Very bad time senses a liminal being and immediately latches onto them heedless of the fact that his new best friend is shooting at some seedy guys in an alley and goes off about how stressed he is and how he can't make it back to the ghost zone and what a bad day he's been having (and it's important to note Danny is a littol ghost boy literally hanging off of Jason's neck as he floats aimlessly) and Jason is like "who are you??" And Danny is like "oh sorry I'm Danny lol" and then just continues lamenting his woes

And honestly ? This might as well happen. Nothing about this Danny guy(is he human?) gives Jason a bad vibe and tbh he's never felt more calm and level headed before so he just keeps up his usual Red Hood patrol and doesn't even think about it when he heads back to a safehouse and feeds Danny dinner (breakfast) before crashing for half the day

The only thing I actually need is Jason meeting up with the bats for some sort of Intel meeting and they're like "uhhh who's that" and Jason is like "that's Danny." And does not elaborate (very ".... What do you have there?" "A smoothie" vibes)

And it takes them a while to realize that these two have known each other for less than 12 hours and are literally attached at the hip

the thing about Buck is that he has to make everything about himself, as a survival strategy, because he knows that no one else will

and the thing about Eddie is that it's core to his being that putting your own needs first is selfish

after buck and eddie get together they’re going to show their jealousy/possessiveness in different ways: eddie’s going to be all cocky about it and he’ll love showing buck off and getting to tell people who obviously want buck “yeah, this is my partner, this is my husband” while buck will be hiding eddie behind him and keeping him all to himself and hissing at anyone that tries to get too close

imagine if someone told a 26-year-old buck, who was neglected by his family his whole life and had just been dumped by his first real love, that in the next year he’d meet his BEST friend AND the love of his life who would want to spend the rest of his life with him

and if someone told a 25-year-old eddie, who had just been abandoned by his wife - the woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, even though their relationship never felt quite right and there was always something missing, because they got pregnant and were pressured into it, the same thing

and that they’d also raise a child together

they just wouldn’t believe it
