I rewatched Merlin for the first time in years and collected my thoughts.
Merlin was such a baby in the first season I forget just how tiny and innocent he was.
The number of times Merlin has been suspected of witchcraft and then got out of it is so hilarious like yea here’s this actual wizard but don’t worry he’s been cleared of all charges nothing to worry about here haha
accused by the witchfinder
sentenced to death as old man sorcerer
straight up confessing to Uther in order to save Gwen
Gaius is to old for this
Sir Leon puts up with so much shit from the Pendragon family
Somebody please give him a vacation he does not get paid enough for this (having to tell his boss that he married a troll was a real low point you can see him losing the will to live)
He's running on three hours of sleep and six cups of coffee
Corrie guard commander Fox reincarnated as a knight of Camelot (working for a maniacal tyrant in the most dramatic political court the world has ever seen will take a lot out of you)
King Cenred is the medieval embodiment of the King of Hybern like that is exactly how I imagine him when I read ACOTAR (Tom Ellis, as always, was a great casting choice)
Freya deserved better Ik she had to die to keep the Excalibur storyline going but she could have been such a great character (merlin was so sad bring his gf back poor baby)
Lancelot my wholesome baby you are to precious for this world you deserved so much better
I can't explain it but I just know Gwaine would have done well on book tok
Ok I know Morgana was a terrible queen and burned the crops but honestly props to her for paying attention to the paperwork
I can’t tell if Agravaine looked at Morgana like a daughter or if he was falling in love with her and honestly both are very disturbing to me.
Aithusa is the most adorable dragon look at his little face Ik he gets attached to Morgana but seriously I can’t not love him.
seeing him so beaten and abused is so sad please get him some help
We should have seen more of him with Merlin
How Kilgharra hasn't cooked Merlin like a costco roast chicken is beyond me, this dragon must have some sort of immortality driven godlike patience in order to put up with that boy as long as he has.
Gaius please get a hair cut
I’m a few episodes into season five and I hit that point where I know what’s coming and it’s making me not want to finish the show. I don’t want to but I feel like I should.
I crapped out. I made it to the episode where Gwen uses the stable boy to try and kill Arthur and then never finished the season. I knew this was going to happen I haven't made it all the way through the series in years. If I ever make it through the end of season five again I'll be sure to give my thoughts but for now I've fallen back into a Gossip Girl rewatch.
Sometimes I forgot to write things then wrote it down later so it might be out of order but whatever enjoy my musings.

Tech: I want to wake up with you every day for the rest of our lives.
Rev: | wake up at 4:30 AM every day to jog.
*Tech downing his second coffee that morning*
Tech: I want to see you at some point every day for the rest of our lives.
(This one was just too accurate to not post cause in my mind Tech is the type to go “sleep what is sleep” and work himself late hours in his lab only to end up waking up later than the others while conversely Rev with his boundless energy is likely the first one on base awake and likely takes a morning jog while waiting for everyone else,
I also find the idea of them sharing a bed absolutely hilarious after the one episode where we see how they both sleep and Rev being unable to lay in one position in his sleep would make it very difficult for them to sleep in the same bed unless there was plenty of room for Rev’s nightly gymnastics.
Day 5 of finding friends in this fandom)

Happy Wednesday lovely readers :) I love any episode with Lucy/Tamara in it. Add in Tim? Makes an amazing thing even more so. I love this one for delving into Tamara’s past a bit, how Tim helps Lucy without a thought, and the bond between Lucy and Tamara. Such good one let’s get going.
4x11 End Game
Tumblr media
We begin our episode with Tamara and Lucy. It’s clear Lucy has been up all night researching. Tamara asks why? Lucy tells her legal research. That kid Tyler she cited out last episode ended up stealing from a liquor store. He felt stressed to pay back the dealer he lost product for. Unfortunately he gave the store owner a heart attack. Luckily the owner is out and ok.
She’s been up all night trying to finds ways for the state to show him leniency since the owner is fine. I love both of them calling Chris the ‘clown’ from the DA’s office. Might be my new name for him. Chris the clown. It’s fitting. They have a lovely moment as Tamara refills her coffee and brings it to her. Saying this kid is lucky to have her backing him.
That she knows she was. Best thing she ever did was steal Lucy’s car. I mean it’s true haha I love Tamara being more open with Lucy. Showing how grateful she is that Lucy took a chance on her like she did. Tamara saying crime pays actually. In this case it does tbh. Heh Lucy says she’s cute when she walks away. It’s such an adorable mom/daughter open for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see Mr. Clown shortly after Lucy arrives at the station. She is gloating that the store owner survived. Chris agrees with her that he’s happy she survived. Lucy questioning how true that is. She tries to get him to charge Tyler as a minor but Chris refuses of course. Schmuck. Lucy starts to tell him studies and he’s so condescending to her. Saying not to quote studies at him. I hate it so much. I dislike him greatly...
Tells her he will only charge him as a minor as long as he’s a CI for his crew. This is where Lucy really goes off on him. Both barrels and pulls no punches whatsoever. Chris is finding this amusing and I want to clock him. Calling her dramatic too. You don’t know her like that ya clown. So rude to say. Tim coming into the convo asking if everything is ok? I love that. Protective Husband is in the building.
Tumblr media
The way she spins around to face Tim is hilarious. His face and posture LOL Lucy saying she can’t believe the nerve of him calling her dramatic. She sees his reaction and tells him don’t start. Haha Eric is the king of facial expressions. He doesn’t disappoint in the least here. His face conveying ‘ I didn’t say anything…’ Even though his body language is saying everything. Laughing so hard at his reaction.
Such a hubby move here. Doesn't say anything but she knows what that reaction means. HIs silence saying more than he ever could. He’s smart enough to know when not to engage her in a fight. Be more married you two please. Lucy is in full wifey mode here and my heart is so happy. Also my god the forearms/biceps. Phew lord. Love to have those wrapped around me like a blanket. There is just so much to love about this mini moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s the next part where we hit peak married vibes. Tim knowing her so damn well. Pinpointing why she is so friggin keyed up. Asking exactly how many cups of coffee she’s had this morning? God these two know each other so damn well. Lucy doesn’t lie and says she’s just going to apologize right now LMAO
Knowing how she’s going to be the rest of the shift for him. It’s so funny. I love her self awareness knowing she’s gonna be extra cause she’s hopped up on caffeine. Good thing Tim is actually is so very fond of it even though he’s exasperated at the same time hehe. She’s so cute I cannot.
Tim’s reaction to her reply is the best part. No one does the eye roll better than our guy. It’s so funny. It makes me laugh every single time. Lucy knows what she’s done and is just owning up it to ahha I love these two idiots so very much. Her saying it’s going to be a long day for him. Oh he’s well aware of that one my dear. I love them so much makes my heart hurt haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim and Lucy are called to Lopez’s homicide. It’s a 18 year old girl killed and dumped. Tim is confused why Angela needed a sergeant. She tells them she didn’t. Just Lucy. Asking if she knows her? Lucy tells her no. Angela hands her the phone and says Tamara does. Pic of her and this girl as her Lock Screen. Hence them being looped in.
Cut to them retuning to her apartment. The marriage theme continues in this episode. Except it goes from sassy poking fun husband and wife. To very sweet and supportive husband for his wife. Being a sweet mom and dad tag team for Tamara in this moment. Which I adore so much.
Lucy is feeling lost and not sure how to handle this. You can tell as she enters the apt. She’s honest with Tim. Replies 'I don't know.' When he asks how she wants to handle it? Lucy tells him she’s done death notices before. But never for someone she cared about. Handling it as a cop vs as a roommate are different approaches. I love how Tim is watching her as she talks out her thoughts. Not judging her but wanting to support her. Knowing this is part of her process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is torn and Tim decides for her. Telling her just to be a friend and he’s got the cop part for her. I love this sfm. Letting her be the soft empathetic friend in this moment. That if she needed someone firmer or more business like to tap him in. Tim knows she wants to be the caring and soft one in this moment. Because he knows her so well. Wants to relieve her of the burden of being a cop right now. To let her just be the caring friend and if she needs a cop he will handle that portion for her.
It seems like such a small gesture that comes across as so much more. You can see Lucy visibly relax when he tells her this. Thanks him for this kindness. He has her back in more ways than one. I love their bond so much. Knowing exactly what the other needs in moments like this. He’s so soft for her I cannot handle it. Just being the best supportive work hubby he can be. Such growth makes my soul happy.
Gives Lucy a chance to relay the news to Tamara in the way she is most comfortable with. Solo in her room. It so sad to watch Tamara take in the news. Not believing Lucy at first or not wanting to really. Lucy confirming it by the phone that was found at the scene. Telling Tamara how sorry she was. I love Tim giving her this private moment alone with her. To be empathetic, caring and all the things she would need in this moment. Let her be Lucy her friend and roommate and not the cop.
Tumblr media
Once they’re out of her room Tim is apart of the convo. Officially in cop mode now. Lucy asking if there was anyone her friend Becca was afraid of? Tamara says no but they hadn’t talked in 3 months. With school and her moving in they lost touch. Tim steps in and asks 'Any idea where she was crashing?' She tells them mostly the street, sometimes shelters, some families let you crash on the floor if they had room. Her last known suggestion is a darker one.
It's where we get a peak into Tamara’s past and it's grim. You can see it all over Lucy’s face as Tamara speaks. How her heart is breaking for her. Killing her to think she ever had to do ‘swiping’. Hitting her like a ton of bricks. You can see the pre-tears in her eyes from hearing all this. The protective mama in her wanting to hug and protect her. To never let her experience that ever again. Tamara can't even look at them while she explains it. Breaks my heart.
Tumblr media
Tim can read Lucy like a book once they’re back in the shop. They’re talking about the men they found on Becca’s phone but her mind is elsewhere. He knows she’s upset and asks her if she’s okay? I’ll never be over this portion of his growth. Him actively engaging in personal stuff with her. Giving her his advice and caring. Being 100 percent genuine in all of it too. My damn heart. He’s also just so damn good with her. Just like she is for him. The shop where they supposedly leave their personal lives at the door is a rule that never really existed for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He provides such a comforting environment for her to share in here. I love him being the one to reach out for this. Lucy engaging right away with him. Voicing everything she was feeling about their convo with Tamara. How it worried her that Tamara knew right away about the swiping idea. Asking Tim’s opinion if he thinks she’s used it herself? If she gave that impression to him?
Tim doesn’t answer so much as shoot a question back. Asking if she’s ever mentioned it to her before? You can hear the hurt in her voice. See the pain in her eyes as she speaks. Telling Tim as close as they are she won’t talk to her about her past. I can see why Lucy would be hurt by this. I can also see why Tamara doesn’t want to talk about it. She probably feels shameful about some of what she did to survive. I can only imagine what she had to do pre-Lucy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim’s reply is perfection. What I love most about it is that it’s coming from experience. At least that’s how it’s coming off to me. We all know how hard it was for Lucy to crack the nut that is Tim. How she scratched and clawed for him to open up to her. Tim had a painful past and lot of reasons to be closed off. But that didn’t stop Lucy from pursuing that relationship with him. It was slow but so very worth it. Tim telling her not to take it personally.
That it might just be hard for to open up to her. It’s not Lucy it’s Tamara's own stuff preventing her from doing so. Just like it was for Tim. Lucy kept knocking at that door till Tim answered. Now look at him. He shares things with her. Deeply personal things. Is giving her advice on her own personal life. Look how far we’ve come. It’s these moments I love the most. The ones that show us how damn far Tim has come. How far they have come as a pairing.
It’s unreal to watch and so rewarding. It’s why the slow burn works so damn well for them. We get moments like this. Where Tim sees she is upset, reaches out, and even relieves her worries. Also once again using his past experience to help her out. Knowing it was hard for him to start to open up with her. That took time for him too. Applying that to his advice for Tamara not opening up just yet. You can see she feels lighter after their talk. Nodding her head agreeing with his advice. Relieving her of her worries for the time being at least. Tim being every bit the supportive husband here and I love it sfm. The emotional intimacy between these at this point is off the charts amazing. *sigh* I love them so much.
Tumblr media
They return to the station to watch interrogation. Lopez has one of Becca’s clip talk guys in the box. Angela comes right at him. Doesn't waste time after he admits he knows her. Saying she knows he used clip talk for sex. In exchange she got warm bed and a meal out of it. He is instantly defensive. Thinking he’s been brought in for something she did or said. Is an ass outright calling her crazy cause she’s homeless and possibly on drugs.
Lopez cuts him right off saying she’s dead. Asking where he was last night? He stumbles and says he has nothing to do with it. That he did see her for few minutes but his GF was coming over. (Classy SOB..) Angela asks what she wanted? He says hot meal, shower, place to stay. But told her to go cause his GF was on the way. I love the way Tim leans forward as they get to heart of his story. He continues on saying Becca threatened to tell his GF if he didn’t give her money.
Telling Lopez all he had was a 20 dollar bill on him to give her. After she left he said he noticed Becca swiped his Cerus Watch. Which he paid 10K for. Lopez following up saying he couldn’t file a police report or it would expose his secret. Lopez cycles back to our couple. Lucy telling her she didn’t have a watch on her body. That she either sold it or whoever killed her took it and did. Tim says they'll ask Tamara where they think it would be pawned.
Tumblr media
We find Tamara catching up with her old life. Visiting with friends she knew. My guess is she felt guilty about not talking to Becca all these months. Wanting to reconnect to help herself grieve. One of her friends telling her how proud Becca was of her. That she missed her but was so happy to see her move on. It’s then we see Tim and Lucy pull up. They all get nervous and Tamara tells them they’re cool.
Lucy is in mom mode asking how she is? Tamara tells her it’s a lot to be back here. She is trying to put up a brave front. Pretend she’s ok. So she avoids saying anymore by asking if they found anything? They update her on the watch Becca took. Asking her if she know where she would pawn it? Love Lucy seeing her hesitancy and reassuring her it’s ok. Also not wanting to leave her there. In full mom mode I adore it. Not wanting to leave her there but not having much of a choice atm.
Tumblr media
They head to the pawn shop Tamara suggested. Tim doesn’t mess around or mince words with the owner. Saying they’re looking for a stolen Cerus watch. The owner gets defensive and says they just come into his shop accusing him of this? Lucy comes right at him too.
A tag team of confidence and unity. I love it. Her reply is feisty af. ‘Of purchasing stolen property from homeless teenagers? We are accusing you of exactly that.’ Get em Lucy! Gah love them being this bad ass united front. This guy goes off on a rant how he’s a lifeline for these kids. Lucy shows him the pic of Becca. Tells him this watch is what got her killed. He sighs and pulls it out to show them.
Saying it was brought in yesterday and shows them who brought it in. It wasn’t Becca….it was the kid Tamara was visiting. The look of realization washes over them. That beautiful silent communication of theirs kicking in. A shared look of worry washing over them. Tim asking isn’t that Tamara’s friend? The one they just left her with...
Tumblr media
We cut back to Tamara talking to him. Asking if he’s ok? He say no. She starts to apologize she hasn’t been around. We see Tim and Lucy racing to get back to her. Such great cinematography in this scene. Declan starting his confession and it flits back to a worried Tim and Lucy. They're trying to get back to her as soon as they can. You can see the panic/urgency written across both of their faces.
Declan tells her how Becca was going to go back to school. Use the watch to get her started with it. She wanted to be more like Tamara. He starts to get emotional saying she was going to leave him too. You can see the shift in Tamara as she see’s where this is going. How he mentions he tried to sneak the watch out. That she caught him and he pushed her and didn’t mean for her to hit her head like she did. It’s then Lucy and Tim roll up like the BAMFS they are. Lucy all but jumping out of the shop to get to Tamara.
Tumblr media
Tim cuffing him immediately. Once he's secure Lucy turns to her asking her if is she’s ok? Not expecting the response that she gets. Tamara finally putting down her walls and being honest. That she isn’t ok and runs to Lucy for comfort. I love this hug and Tamara finally turning to Lucy and being vulnerable. Lucy’s reaction is so sweet as she holds her tight. Such a nice moment for them. Adding to that growing familial bond between them.
Tumblr media
The clown catches Lucy on her way out. I hate writing about him but I also don’t love writing about Ashley either. But they are apart of this season thus in my reviews when I have to. Lucy is straight with him. Says she isn’t in the mood for anymore bad news. He tells her he cut a good deal for Tyler. That he won’t have to be a CI. Just 6 months in Juvie. Probation till 18.
Clearly trying to impress her with this deal. Because let’s be honest if he had his way that kid would’ve been screwed. He did this to get on her good side. To me Chris was always kinda clueless but a little manipulative as well. I.e. This deal to impress her. Never liked him or thought he was good enough to be in her presence let alone date her.
Tumblr media
This scene is a good bookend to how the episode began with Tamara’s gratefulness. Except this ending portion is a lot more sincere. No jokes involved. Makes me emotional as she thanks Lucy for everything she’s given her. Tamara thanks her for helping her leave it all behind as well. That if not for her she could've ended up just like Becca. Their scenes are always so good. Thanking Lucy for getting her friend justice.
Lucy not taking credit for that. Saying she did that for her. It’s true she guided them most of the investigation. Without her tips and such it would’ve taken them so much longer. I love Lucy telling her she doesn’t need to worry about what could’ve been without her. That’s she’s safe now ❤️ This next bit is so good. Lucy bringing up talking about her time on the street.
Tumblr media
Tamara telling her not right now. Lucy bringing up she doesn’t have to. She doesn’t even have to with her. Just someday talking to someone would be good. So it doesn’t sneak up on her. Because it will. She is not wrong...It did for me. I took too long to talk to someone myself. I had a random run in with a sweet old lady who was a client of mine. She commented on my earrings. Asking where I got them? I said my mom with no real emotions attached to it. She looked me in the eye and said ‘Your mother must love you very much.’ I wanted to cry because I wasn't sure how true that was.
I swallowed my complicated emotions and my racing thoughts. I thanked her. But it triggered something in me when I got back to my car and I cried. Because it brought up all the emotions and feelings I hadn’t talked about with my mom. I texted my baby sister about it. She told me it was time to seek some therapeutic help. I did and it's helped so very much. So Lucy is so very right if you don’t talk about it. Suppress it for too long it sneaks up on you.
This is such solid advice once again from Lucy. Therapy and talking it out does wonders for the soul. Because if you don’t It’ll eat at you slowly. Take away from your present. Such a lovely way to end the episode for them both. I always love me some Tamara/ Lucy eps.
~~~
Side notes-Non Chenford
James and Nyla being cute af. I truly love them together. They work so well.
Also more cute James/ Wes moments about the pregnancy and such. I do love their bromance so.
The way Dick was staring at Kory so intensely, with so much adoration (& passion 🤭) at the dinner table and later on the bridge, really made my heart skip a beat.
Like some have mentioned, he rarely openly show's affection like that but of course Kory is the exception, as usual.
I know some ppl were bummed he didn't say "I love you" but I'd argue this whole damn season was him prooving that he indeed does love and is IN love with Kory without a doubt. Same for her. It was very clear in the final episode, that they were in love with eachother and both finally admitting it, even if those exact words weren't said.
Idk, sometimes it really doesn't need to be spelled out like that.
Although, I do think had we gotten another season we would've heard the explicit ILU's especially if we were supposed to actually get Mar'i 🥹.
Anyways, Dick was staring at Kory like she was the main entrée at dinner loll like damn your children are right there sir.
Then on the bridge when he oh so smoothly, strongly suggested they start making babies immediately. He was so serious he had our girl Kory shook 🤣. If they had kissed after that stare, I wouldn't have been surprised but the way Dick was acting it might've turned into some public indecency loll.
I also thought it was really cute they alluded back to season one when Kory bought Dick that alcohol to figure out his "secrets" and see his "moves".
Kory was so adorable being like "Hey let me buy you a coffee," but Dick really said nah buy me another drink so we can get hot & heavy 💀. The boldness, compared to his normal demeanor, was giving me whiplash in a good way. I'm just so glad they got to be together and happy in the end~💙💜
You know what I loved about Dick in the last few scenes is his intensity. He wasn’t flirting like earlier in the season he was being bold and straight forward. For one he was the one making her blush and giggle.
They show their love so loudly that I’m not super pressed about them saying “I thought I lost you” instead of ILY. But I do agree they’d say it in season 5 when they were settled into a relationship.
I wish we got a full season of them as a couple but I’m not holding that against the writers. They aren’t the ones who cancelled the show. What they did here is give us a clear glimpse into their future and showed us how far Dick will go to protect Kory. Like we knew it but seeing him be so open and concerned for her was beautiful. They way Kory was brought out of that spell in 4x08 because of Dicks feelings for her? Beautiful.
Dick asking Kory for a real drink + saying they should get started on Mar’i is hilarious. Like he went 0-100. And I love how Kory knew him wanting a drink means he’s propositioning her 😅
Like sure I want season 5 with Mar’i but season 4 with Dicks desperation to save her and Kory willing to give up her life for him and the world…it was epic. I’ll miss them.
There is so much about the show that is absolutely GLORIOUS
Good stuff:
Crowley before The Fall 🥹 He's so sweet and good and proud of his work. And I totally get his outrage that they've spent so long building this beautiful universe only to shut it all down in 6000 years.
Nina/Maggie - I loved them! I also need a "Give Me Coffee Or Give Me Death" coffee mug please.
The Wee Morag/Ressurectionists story - Aziraphale's struggle with the ethics of what they're doing, Crowley's terrible scottish accent (honestly, how does a Scot purposely make it sound so bad 😆), Crowley loopy on laudanum.
Gabriel/Jim was just hilarious in general. Organising books alphabetically by the first letter of the first word. 😆
I kept thinking I should hate this character for what he did but he's so vulnerable. I did very much enjoy Crowley's confrontation with him
"You told my only friend to shut his mouth and die"
Crowley is pissed off and good at holding a grudge!
Apparently when Crowley and Aziraphale perform a "little half miracle" together, without even trying, they are more powerful than Gabriel. I genuinely thought it was going to turn out that Gabriel had performed a miracle at the same time to hide himself, but no, it was just them. IMAGINE the potential power if they set their mind to it.
All of the "they are so married" moments. The apology dance! 😂 "Our car" and Aziraphale driving the Bentley!!
The Jane Austen Ball. Oh Aziraphale, you are the cutest. 😍 It was for Nina and Maggie but the absolute DELIGHT on his face when he got Crowley to dance with him. ❤️ Also, Crowley's confusion over Jane Austen being one of theirs. 😆
The Easter eggs. So many and I'm sure I missed loads - Terry Pratchett book, "It was a nice day", the Dr Who annual, the fez in the magic shop...
The dozens of fire extinguishers in the bookshop! 🥺
I'm still trying to digest the last episode. I was honestly expecting a happy ending and instead I felt like I'd been punched in the heart. 💔
The way Aziraphale grabbed Crowley's arm during the Gabriel/Beelzebub reveal. 🥺
Crowley choking up trying to TELL Aziraphale. 😭
And then the pain for both of them at the end. No nightingales. 😭
I don't trust Metatron one bit. He's coming across (to Aziraphale at least) as forgiving and as if he genuinely thinks Aziraphale is needed but I don't believe it. Aziraphale is going to end up a scapegoat when it all goes wrong. 🙁
What a set up for season 3! 🤞😇👿
OK OK OK OK OK
I finally finished Good Omens season 2 and I have so many fucking thoughts which I will list in no particular order:
The Doctor Who references are always golden. (somewhat related: that part when Crowley was bullshitting about war regulations in front of Shax & co in the bookshop? super reminiscent of Ten’s speedy sci-fi jargon)
The music, as always, fucking slaps, especially at the end of each episode when the theme is played in a related style I love it so much
Nina and Maggie!!! I do really like them as a ship (coffee shop + record shop? that’s a built-in au fic) but I also like how they’re not actually together at the end. I love how they’re so healthy in how they go about their potential relationship, both acknowledging how messed up it was for Aziraphale/Crowley to meddle with their lives and how dumb it would be to rush into something headfirst regardless of all the shit they had been through both togther and as individuals. Also Fuck Lindsay all my homies hate Lindsay, as much as I liked what they did with visualising her shitty messages (the blackboard and crumpled notepad sheets? because of coffee shop reasons and how Nina’s work and love life was suffocatingly forced together by the incessant behest of Lindsay)
<The dancing/ball/Jane Austen vibes3
Beezelbub and Gabriel!?!? When I first came across this ship on ao3 I thought this ship made somewhat sense but would stay in the realms of fanon yet here I am disproven and I can’t lie… they’re kinda cute together. I was caught off guard (like every other character) but fair dues to them. Their parallels with the ineffable husbands are just ughh *chef’s kiss*
^alpha centauri!!!^
Peter Davison and Ty Tennant??? Their appearances did make me giggle for meta’s sake. Perhaps a Georgia Tennant appearance in season 3? (if they make it please please please say they’ll make it)
WAS CROWLEY ACTUALLY RAPHAEL??? I thought it was just a headcanon/fan theory (which I did fall in love with after watching this beautiful animatic years ago) but Crowley having access to classified files and the Metatron mentioning that an archangel being cast out has happened before??? it’s becoming more and more plausible.
AND JUST PRE-FALL CROWLEY IN GENERAL HE LOOKS SO HAPPY all he ever did was ask valid questions goddamnit (literally). nebulae are very pretty I would also be indignant if they weren’t gonna stick around for long. AND THE PARALLEL TO THE FIRST EPISODE WITH THE WINGSSS
Crowley just being a good nice decent person all throughout time (the goats, children, helping out elspeth, ect) it makes me happy
ANDD Aziraphale’s reactions (both positive and negative) to aforementioned deeds create a great moral foil to Crowley and perfectly builds up to what we see at the end (I’ll probably write about s2 Aziraphale in a different post because man I have so many thoughts)
Crowley’s callbacks to the date lunch at the Ritz!! Him talking to Nina and Maggie about taking Aziraphale to the Ritz again to him pointing out the lack of a nightingale (idk if that was leaning into meta a little but it didn’t bother me) just HURT so damn much
“Emotional damage support angel” you’re damn right he is/was
The battery-powered candles lmfaooo and literally any reference to the fire, including the absurd number of fire extinguishers, had me giggling
Muriel is a goddamned (or not so in some sense) treasure, a little ray of sunshine with a heart of gold and dumb of ass. I adore her and found Aziraphale and Crowley humouring her hilarious.
THE SECOND COMING??? I’m sorry wHAT WE ALREADY HAD THE ANTICHRIST NOW WE’RE DEALING WITH CHRIST CHRIST? YOU CAN’T LEAVE US WITH JUST THAT MR. GAIMAN
and of course the bloody
K I S S
THAT WHOLE SEQUENCE OF CROWLEY FINALLY FINALLY OPENING UP AND JUST BEING WHOLEHEARTEDLY HONEST (going against his predisposition and entire NATURE to lie/omit or walk around the truth)
CONFESSING HIS TRUE FEELING AFTER COUNTLESS MILLENNIA OF PINING EVEN AFTER AZIRAPHALE DROPPED THAT BOMBSHELL
AND HALF STORMING OFF BEFORE GOING BACK TO KISS THE SHIT OUT OF HIM AND THEN FULLY STORMING OFF
with aziraphale clearly unsure of how to react BUT STILL TOUCHES HIS LIPS IN SHOCK AS HE WATCHES CROWLEY LEAVE
That shit had me fully standing up on the sofa, arms in brace position, gasping, screaming, close to tears, indignantly repeating “NEIL GAIMAN!” every couple of seconds
Tumblr media
Truly a brilliant scene and a brilliant season overall.
As always the cast, the writers, the set designers, the effects artists, the costumers, the camera crew, everyone who had a part in creating go2 was fucking fantastic.
WILD BLUE YONDER SPOILERS/THOUGHTS
Doing this again :3
.Now this was a Doctor Who episode. It was amazing, it was hilarious, it was thrilling, and I am so glad that this episode was kept so tightly under wraps and wasn't part of the leaks- though how would this episode even be explained written down anyway?
.I don't really know why Isaac newton was there? To make the mavity joke and the snippet about the doctors sexuality? both very valid and great moments, but unless some important plot point fell out of my head it was a bit random, but I'm not complaining I suppose
.my mum was CONVINCED that it wasn't coffee that donna was drinking, with the way they were acting at the start of the episode. lmao.
.This set is giving crazy high budget. The entire episode was very visually impressive. The scene of the entire outside of the ship spinning in space (and the weird contorted circle shape of it) makes you blink twice
.I liked the bit that confirmed the doctors attraction to men, its funny that he seemed surprised about it. "is that who I am now?" who you are NOW? Anyway, I really hope it's explicitly talked about in future episodes that the doctor is bisexual, omnisexual or however it happens to be. I would like the attraction to ALL genders (or lack thereof) to be made explicit.
.My heart actually dropping out of tension hasn't been something I've felt in a doctor who episode in a LONG time, but that scene where we cut to the Doctor messing with the tubes in the blue room after we just see Donna and the Doctor in the orange one actually gave me that perfect sinking feeling. It was such a great "somethings not right" moment. Like, oh shit- that's not HIM-
."My arms are too long" and both of them just brushing that off coming from the other initially is very funny. and very real. Some shit I wouldn't blink if my friends said around me. yeah I dont know it's like that
.THEY WENT HAM ON THE VISUAL EFFECTS AND I CAN'T LOVE IT ENOUGH. IT'S UNCANNY, IT'S GOOFY AND IT'S UNSETTLING- I could NOT stop laughing, but it was also horrific! That scene of them chasing them down the hallway was straight up nightmare fuel. how did rtd even decide that was. that was something he wanted to do. he was right but like. crazy.
.The scene where donna and the doctor confront each other and the viewer knows one of each set isn't "right' but we don't know which is which (and I was wrong with my initial guess, which is probably the point) that was great. ""Donna""" telling the doctor that the flux wasn't his fault and him responding "I KNOW" was really just something to me. I cant remember much about the flux storyline, but sometimes things that aren't your fault still hurt so much.
.On the other side of the coin, it was an amazing moment when the """doctor""" realises the tie he threw off is gone, and he says "oh. things that are gone still exist." it's a very chilling line... cooking in the writing room
.Oh. and the spider-walking bit. Top tier. it makes me think of all the people watching doctor who recently just for David Tennant because he's having a Tumblr/twitter dilf sexyman resurgence. Watch your man do this (contorts into a crab walk, runs on all fours) :3 thats how we do things in doctor who. nah im joking he's my celeb crush too
.I also really liked the scene with the line of salt. Had to suspend my disbelief for a second: it's not like he salted across the whole room, walk around it maybe? but it was just a great scene, and the """donna"" dropping to her knees and counting the salt was pretty funny.
.Is this villain and the one in Midnight connected? Gotta be, though I feel as if it might never be explained. The mimicry is too similar of a premise and it makes a lot of sense that they'd reference it given that Midnight is generally considered to be one of the 10th Doctors best episodes.
.Do y'all remember when someone edited the IMDB page to say that Billie Piper was in this episode because whoever did that was quite funny. This episode was leagues better than any returning character call-back episode they could have done (and I say that with so much love for her) but I am one of the many people who want A SINGULAR TENTOO MENTION and the clown music is getting louder and im wondering if I should just go grab my rainbow wig and red nose now
.What kind of animal was the captain? A horse? I guess? I want to see what this alien looked like when it was alive. It made me intrigued and I think it was quite a powerful/scary visual that it wasn't a human skull. There was something more unsettling about an animalistic skull- YES of course it would be an alien yeah duh but do you understand? do you find the visual creepy as well?
.Im sorry but the part where the "doctor" just starts GALLOPING on all fours made me lose it. Me at 11 years old on the school playground pretending to be a wolf. What warrior cat do you think the tenth doctor kins (I dont know, but I do know that 12 kins Jayfeather. That's really obvious.)
.Could he not have thought of ANY better question to ask to determine between the two donnas? And why would "it just is" be the answer he went for? The scene where Donna faces death is powerful: breaking a little of her trust for him: he chose the wrong one. it was good stuff. But hey doctor, please explain your thought process behind that whole scene on this blackboard, because I cant get my head around it.
.My mother wants a ramp that spews people out of the door installed in our house for guests.
.I feel like donna was lying when she said she doesn't remember the doctors 15 years past. Or, idk, well. I wrote that but she did say it was like looking into a furnace, so maybe it's true. Donna asking if the doctor will be alright and the doctor saying "I will be" was great but "when?" "in a million years" was a bit much, but im being pedantic.
.Curious about the salt thing... there's much in the specials that's either being set up for the giggle or the next season, and both are intriguing. FWIW, I think when the Meep was referring to the boss the meep was probably referring to the toymaker, (watch me eat my words next week) but the salt thing- would that really be connected to the toymaker?
.wilf.wilfwilfwilf. Apparently, this is the only time before Bernards death that he features in the specials. This hurts the most, but it hurts SO GOOD that he got to be here one last time. and, fictionally, the doctor got to see Wilf one last time. That's so incredible. I'm tearing up. And I stayed with my eyes glued to the credits scene knowing there would be a dedication to him in the end, and I teared up all over again. Bernard Cribbins acting as Wilf is one of those characters that's going to be remembered forever.
.Incredible. So much fun. This was just... FUN. my whole family really enjoyed this one a lot more than the Star Beast (me and mum loved the star beast, my dad didnt, but he loved this one.)
Remembering Michael on December 10th. Pictured with Peter, Davy, and Micky, and Barbara Hamaker. Some photos by Gene Trindl, Michael Ochs Archives, Tom M. Morton, Colin Beard, Ali Cotton.
Remembering Michael.
“You should’ve heard Mike singing some of those old Jimmie Rodgers The Singing Brakeman songs. He was so good, that stuff was just — you know, that stuff just warmed the cockles of my heart, you know. He could just do that stuff all day long. Just — I could just sit at his feet and listen to that for hours.” - Peter Tork, WHNN-FM, 2012
“At the Troubadour […], Peter Tork strolled in, banjo on his knee. Later, in-between ‘Alvin’ and a great banjo finger-picker, Peter yelled a hello to Mike Nesmith, who was standing in the upstairs darkness and the two fell into a hilarious patter routine." - Ginni Ganahal, TeenSet Magazine, February 1968 (read more here)
"[July 1, 1967] At this point Peter proudly produced a fan letter for Mike a rare occurrence. Mike looked vaguely impressed with his fan letter and read aloud, ‘Dear Mike. We saw the Monkees at the airport on Wednesday and my sister Linda touched Micky’s arm and then I saw you and threw up…’ ‘Hey,’ said Peter, ‘let me see that! You’re not that bad looking. I don’t believe it.’ Peter read from the letter, 'Dear Mike. We saw the Monkees at the airport on Wednesday and my sister Linda touched Micky’s arm and then I saw you and threw up!’ The letter did not, of course, say this but it’s all part of the Tork-Nesmith off-stage variety act.” - NME, July 8, 1967 (read more here)
Peter and Michael on KDWB-AM in August 1967, here.
Peter and Mike on their favorite Monkees episode, "Fairy Tale" - here.
“Michael used to run a hootenanny at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, and so I met him there. But that’s all, just to say hi to, pretty much.” - Peter Tork, GOLD 104.5, 1999
“I have a great deal of respect for Mike as a musician and a songwriter. He’s very good. He could make it on his own easily. Also he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.” - Peter Tork, Flip, August 1967
“I really get along with Mike best. He’s married and enjoys his evenings at home with his family. My favorite date is to stop by his place, have some coffee, play cards, and listen to groovy music.” - Peter Tork, Hullabaloo, September 1967
“I remember staying at Mike’s house in Hollywood when we first started filming the series. It was the upper story of a two-story building on a little hillside. Mike’s wife, Phyllis, was wonderful. Mike and I laughed a lot and played music together. I remember that time very fondly.” - Peter Tork, When The Music Mattered (1984)
Q: “Being that your tastes were similar, and you both were the first to leave the group, why didn’t you form a group with Peter Tork?” Michael Nesmith: “I don’t like Peter Tork — never have liked him, I don’t like him as a man. I have to qualify that now: Me not liking somebody doesn’t mean that they’re bad people — he could do a lot of wonderful things for and to me. Not liking someone to me is a very gut reaction — a very visceral attitude. The first reaction to Peter was one of dislike. I don’t like him, I have never liked him, and I probably will never like him. I didn’t enjoy playing in a band with Peter, and I still don’t. Our tastes were much the same, our political beliefs were similar, our ideas of fun, pleasure, our intellectual capacity, our ability to talk to each other — we were very much alike. I have a great respect for Peter — his technical abilities on an instrument and the positions he took were well conceived ideas, always a posture with a motive, never emotional. I don’t like my mother. She happens to be a very nice lady — never done anything that would make me not like her — but I don’t. I like my wife.” - Hit Parader, February 1972
“It was something that was known on the set. They knew Pete and I went our own ways. This wasn’t a dislike of someone who had committed some infraction against me or some sort of crime. It was just, ‘Oh, this guy eats those little noodles and I don’t like ’em and I can’t eat with the guy.’ It was kind of an off-putting thing. It was, ‘Oh, he likes to play paintball and I don’t like to play paintball.’ So we never played paintball, but every once in a while we’d find ourselves in the same paintball park because we owned it, so we had to keep it clean and do all the stuff we had to do and we did do it. We didn’t have too many civil words to say to each other, but we also didn’t fight all the time. We just didn’t say much. There wasn’t a lot to say. Peter would play me the songs that he thought were good and I didn’t. And I would play him the songs I thought were good and he wouldn’t. Then we just left it at that. Partners in silence.” - Michael Nesmith, Rolling Stone, December 3, 2019
“Michael was very kind to me at the outset. He put me up through the entire shooting of the pilot process. He and his wife had a wonderful little apartment just big enough for a guest on the day bed, which overlooked Hollywood. I remember a Thanksgiving Day when the air was crystal clear in a way that I’ve never seen it before or since in L.A., and you could see all the way out to Catalina. It was wonderful. That crystal clarity symbolizes the whole era for me. Mike and I wrote a few things together. We were very comradely and very buddy buddy, and it was a wonderful time, with Mike’s then wife, Phyllis, and Christian, their little infant baby. The early days of the pilot shooting were just great by my lights and I had a wonderful time.” - Peter Tork, quoted in Hey, Hey, We’re The Monkees (1996) (read more here)
"After [Peter] went down for the first interview, I asked how how he felt he did and he said, ‘Well, it looks good. I’ll see how things go.’ And they kept calling him back. He liked Michael Nesmith. That was the first thing that happened." - Stephen Stills, Tiger Beat, July 1967 (read more here)
“I did give Peter a voice audition on Saturday’s Child but I had to finally say, ‘look Pete, I can’t play banjo and you can’t sing. If I played the banjo I’d sound like you singing, I have to erase the tape.’ So Peter left in a huff and came back with Michael, who pulled off his motorcycle helmet, crashed it down onto the console and demanded ‘why don’t you let Peter sing? You guys never let us come to the sessions, it’s just you two with Davy and Micky.’" - Tommy Boyce, Monkeemania: The True Story of The Monkees (1997) (x)
"Mike joined us in the UK for our 30th anniversary tour in 1997. I enjoyed that tour very much; it was a good time. Nevertheless, Mike never said anything to me when he decided to leave the band after the ’97 European tour, and I still don’t know why he left.” - Peter Tork, Medium, 2017
"Yeah, I’d rather have him in, all things considered. I think that it makes an event when he’s there that, that isn’t when he’s not. [...] I think, you know, Mike changed his mind for reasons that I don’t quite understand, but what the heck." - Peter Tork, GOLD 104.5, 1999 (x)
"I still have a lot of respect for Michael." - Peter Tork, WDBB, February 2006 (x)
"I will miss him — a brother in arms. Take flight my Brother.” - Michael Nesmith, Facebook, February 2019 (x)
Noticing in the episode so far:
Scientist talking about how the fungi could take over and spread and society still just not doing shit to stop it. (too real honestly)
Joel doesn't like pancakes, prefers coffee over his orange juice (same dude), and his relationship with both Tommy and Sarah is based on trust, understanding boundaries, and goofing around.
Both Joel and Tommy are in construction. We know from the games Joel was a carpenter.
Joel and Tommy do not know Geography (had no clue Jakarta was in Indonesia). Which is probably a commentary on their socio-economic background and education. The fact that one or both of them was in the military around operation Desert storm (1991) probably plays a role in that. My guess since Joel was 24 and Sarah was likely just born or a year old, it was Tommy who is ex military. (but could be both)
Joel also has trouble with waking up, getting dressed, their house in game is relatively messy. And we know he has anxiety and other issues in the game pre outbreak. I personally see this as a neurodivergent thing since he also likes to talk about his special interests like construction with anyone that he trusts and is willing to listen.
Also the fact that he knows what Atkins is but not where Jakarta was, idk it's so funny but also so sad to me because he probably just watches a lot of pop culture/tv.
Joel doesn't like it when Tommy smokes around Sarah.
Sarah is around 12-13 I think, like in the game, maybe a little older. But not much.
Jimmy Cooper is no longer the neighbor but instead the farmer who's house burned down.
Mercy, the dog, is a Border Collie.
Joel is also very forgetful. Probably overworked single parent. I'd like to present; ADHD?
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOEL AND SARAH IS SO GODDAMN PURE I'M SCREAMING.
JOEL HAS A GODDAMN NOKIA 3310. Like I should not be surprised because that is on par for 2003. But goddamn is that funny to me.
Also, we now know why Joel left Sarah alone in the house. He had to bail Tommy out of jail (again, lol). (Tommy went to jail for defending a woman is also very Tommy.)
They dumbed Sarah down so much in the scenes where she finds Mercy and tries to return him to his house. Like helicopters are flying overhead, you just heard the news declare a state of national emergency, and your neighbors dog is standing on your porch trying to get in. He also growls when you walk back out and see the neighbors door open. Like girl, sweetheart, I get that you are 13. But even 13 year olds have self preservation. You did in the videogame.
Also holy fuck the fact that the infected EAT YOU ALIVE in this.... fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.
Joel's; DENISE GET BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE. LOCK YOUR DOORS followed by him and his family driving off is just hilarious to me.
As chaotic as Joel is, in times of crisis he's the one with the clear mind in the car. He had the brain cell between him and Tommy that time.
And now I have to go catch some shut eye but I will definitely pick this back up tomorrow with more stuff I noticed.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - Season 1 (2023) Review
Tumblr media
We are Sex Bob-omb!!... 1... 2... 3... 4!!!
Plot: A 20-something Toronto indie rocker's adventures in getting and keeping jobs, avoiding being kicked out of his apartment, and surviving encounters with the seven evil exes of the new girl in town on whom he has a crush.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of Edgar Wright's best films, and to be fair it is easy to argue that any movie directed by Wright is the best in his career as he's yet to make a proper dud. I have on the other hand never read a single word from the original Scott Pilgrim, so my knowledge of the source material is primarily and sorely based on the 2010 movie. Luckily with the new Netflix show, the creators very much are targeting and appealing to fans of both the film and the books, and as such if you are acquainted with either you'll easily get to enjoy some of that delightful nostalgia flavour. However, if you are a newcomer to Scott Pilgrim, then you may be a tad lost in all the chaos.
When I first started watching this show, I was skeptical and concerned. Especially with the first episode playing nearly shot for shot with the 2010 movie only in anime form, and for a moment I wondered if this was simply a stylish yet pointless reenactment. However, in the final moments of the first episode, the writers reveal this surprising bait and switch, though not that surprising if you observe the show's title. From there the show continuously goes forth to subvert expectations of what we know, playing up to our knowledge of the movie (and books) and then flipping things around. There's also a bigger focus on the characters who maybe did not get to enjoy the limelight in the original story, and as such it's actually to the show's advantage that they manage to bring back most of the original film cast to reprise their characters' voices, as again, adds to the nostalgia, but also allows these actors to play around more with their roles. It results in a very entertaining take on the story and is delivered with such funky and exciting animation. The fight sequences are reminiscent of a lot of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter with a narrator constantly jumping in with an announcement of yet another character VS character match-up, and these anime fights were truly awesome!
There are also so many Easter Eggs and random references in this show, that you'd easily enjoy rewatching each episode multiple times to catch every single detail. Naturally with Edgar Wright producing you can expect his regulars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost popping in for vocal cameos, and then the references can be as obscure as a character leaving the room whistling the tune from Disney's Robin Hood. You know, the one with the animals! Also, don't be fooled by the animation, this isn't a family-friendly show. There were a surprising amount of sex jokes in this, so this is very much oriented towards the adults.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a joy to the fans of the source material, yet also tries to do something original and different and tell this story with a new approach. The show is quirky, colorful, fast, and spontaneous like a comic book strip, and as such I had no issue binging through the 8 episodes within two sittings. It's also hilarious, and as myself having worked in a coffee shop for over 4 years, I really appreciated the amount of jokes that were included about work life and customers in a cafe. I'd say the comedy still doesn't hit the highs of the original movie, which doesn't come as a surprise as Edgar Wright is only on producing duties here rather than scriptwriting, but nonetheless, there were consistent chuckle-worthy moments throughout. I'd also say even though I enjoyed the new narrative direction of this show, I do think they dragged a little the central Where's Waldo-style mystery, and they could have resolved that mystery an episode or two earlier and progressed more in the crazy sooner. But still, I'm pleasantly surprised and delighted that instead of rehashing the old, the writers here decided to do something different with the property. Also solid music and again, have I mentioned those anime fight sequences? Pure awesomeness!!
Overall score: 7/10
Communication and Escape Velocity - Couples in Good Omens Season 2
Something that I really love about Good Omens is all the little ways in which things are balanced (light and dark, good and evil, young and old, etc), and mirrored (various couples vs each other, the Them vs the four horsemen of the apocalypse etc). As someone who likes both symmetry and metaphors this is very satisfying, and I love that we see it in season 2 also with the three main couples portrayed.
What I find super interesting though is the differences in each relationship, particularly with regards to the speed the relationship progresses at, and the amount of communication between the partners.
First we have the newest couple: Maggie and Nina
Tumblr media
I don't think we're told exactly how long they've known each other, but certainly their relationship as anything other than people who work on the same street is new. Throughout the 6 episodes their relationship progresses the fastest, from acquaintences to acknowledging their feelings for each other. They also have the most open and frank communication of all three couples (even when they are disagreeing their communication is proactive and they both understand what the other is trying to say), and though they don't end up together their resolution is still satisfying because you know that this was the right decisions for them in that moment, reached together through good communication and good decisions.
Tumblr media
Communication 9/10 | Speed 8/10 (8 rather than 9 simply because they also put the breaks on their relationship)
Next we have Gabriel and Beelzebub
Tumblr media
If we assume this takes place four years after the first series then Gabriel and Beelzebub have been meeting up for that whole time and their feelings have developed in this period. They've also gone from enemies on opposite sides of a celestial war to leaving everything behind for each other. For humans this would be a reasonably normal timeframe for this kind of change. For beings as old as these two this is like getting the bullet train vs going via donkey.
Tumblr media
When their relationship starts they're not open in their conversation, but as it progresses they start to be more honest with each other and their communication improves. They realise that they both have a lot in common and that neither of them wants the war to go ahead. They realise their feelings for each other and make a mutual decision to leave for a new life together.
Tumblr media
Communication 7/10 | Speed 7/10
And then finally we come to Aziraphale and Crowley
Tumblr media
Their relationship has been building for the past 6000 years. It is the slowest of slow burns, but much of that is because their communication is not in harmony. We the audience knows they're in love, random strangers they pick up in cars know, people serving them coffee know. And they know, or at least each knows they love the other. But, unlike the previous two couples, this is not communicated well between Aziraphale and Crowley. In fact, the couple with the best communication even tells them this
Tumblr media
They had to invent an apology dance because they're so bad at talking (ok, admittedly this is my interpretation, and it is hilarious, but I do think there is something to Aziraphale and Crowley's invention of so many rules and habits and routines with regards to each other. It's like dancing - they like to follow a certain series of familiar steps because it gives them a safe framework to work within when it comes to each other. This is also shown in their formulaic approaches to getting Nina and Maggie to fall in love).
But this results in a situation where, when they do communicate, they often say things they don't mean
Tumblr media
or say things to obfuscate what they do
Tumblr media
That isn't to say they haven't made progress from season 1, they definitely have. But the other two couples are there to hold a mirror up to Crowley and Aziraphale and say, look here's what can happen if you would just be honest with each other. Instead, Aziraphale and Crowley tend to assume what the other means in any conversation and usually get it wrong (hinted at in their conversation about Gabriel at the beginning of the series and then clearly shown in that disaster of a conversation at the end).
Instead they give each other gifts and quality time and use physical actions to try and express what they can't communicate well in words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Communicating might not solve everything and make things simple and easy (Maggie and Nina), it might create more problems and cause a series of ridiculous events (Gabriel and Beelzebub), but, as we have seen, when these two are alligned in their communication and thinking and goals they can create miracles of such magnitude it sets off alarms in heaven.
Communication 2/10 | Speed (Pre Season 1) 1/10, (Post Season 1) 4/10
Destined with you, episode 16, finale, straight from my hotel room!
Well it's good to know she knew what she was getting into mostly
Yay for mace!
It's kinda nice to see the police doing their jobs instead in hindering everything
She ain't dying, we got like an hour left
God the dad is SUCH a dick. Divorce him
I want sinyu to yell back at his dad so much
Is that a whole boiled chicken? Ew
I dunno how I feel about the other guy recording the fight, it's good, but I think he does deserve thanks. Revealing political scandals is a big deal, it's not just the bullying stuff. Though I guess that is a bigger deal than I'm used to.
So much fluff I love it!
Oh ya, we still got shit with jae gyoeng to finish up
I don't want ma and gong together, and I don't want sin yus mom and dad together. The only side couple I want happy is sin yus mom and friend!
I feel like gong lying to ma is a bigger issue than the stupid proposal, I guess we're just ignoring that fight
This song is so cringe lol
Lol you call out who's going to catch the bouquet? Neat
This fake drama is hilarious and I love it
Fuck you Dad, still gonna say fuck you, coffee truck or no. I wanna fic where she divorced him and got with the young guy
Why do you wanna get close to these coworkers, they're kinda assholes
The mom's preggers huh. Hmm. Sure why not.
Oh they both have a special bracelet? I thought he was wearing hers before
I like that they revealed that he's the one who buried the box, nice
Overall, this show will get a 'great' on my list of shows I watched. Spot on kdrama with fluff and angst and just everything! I liked the main characters even with the iffy love spell stuff at the beginning, and the main male lead was just adorable. Very happy I took a chance and watched this! It's been awhile since I watched a kdrama (more into BLs lately) so it was really good to watch.
♥️♥️♥️
They other day I watched a Rosa De Guadalupe episode that played out like this:
Woman has sibling with Down Syndrome and is engaged
The groom is actually more patient and kind to her brother than she is?
They both keep it a secret from the groom's parents though
Eventually they find out. Fighting ensues "why did you keep it a secret, what if your kids with her are R-word too!?"
Groom refuses to call off the wedding. Instead he sets up a series of meetups so his parents can get to know his future brother-in-law
BIL always messes up something which earns him a whole bunch on passive aggressive microaggressions. Only the groom ever does anything?
Not really sure what happened here because I got distracted with my phone but at one point the sister tells her brother that he's a burden or something
She does some sort of. Ritual. Idk the purpose of it, but there's candles.
She leaves the candles unattended which causes a fire. She's trapped inside the house.
The brother notices, goes inside to help, manages to help his sister but gets trapped instead.
The groom arrives, rescues his bride but because she's inhaled too much smoke or something she takes too long to say "go save my brother"
Groom does go inside and comes back out. The makeup used to signal that the brother was burned is, hilariously bad. His last words, which he can somehow weakly whisper despite supposedly being burned badly enough to die (and thus be in shock) are "I forgive you be happy" or some shit like that
Fast forward: The protagonists are married and having coffee with the groom's parents
"yes, your brother was a beautiful soul, very pure, a hero for risking his life for you. We're happy to have you in the family now that we know that Down Syndrome isn't a genetic disorder that can be passed down by a parent"
I need you to understand that the atmosphere is light and happy, like???
Wind comes in an a rose magically appears in front of a Virgin Mary portrait.
Cue obligatory: "and this rose? / ¿Y esta rosa?"
It was so bad. What even was the message? No idea. I hated it. I think about it all the time since I watched it.
Mini-Review: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
Kusuo Saiki is a psychic. And a telepath. And a telekinetic. You know what, just assume that any psychic power you've ever heard of is available to him. But apart from that, he's a regular grumpy sixteen-year-old boy who just wants to be left alone to enjoy his coffee jelly. Unfortunately for him, that's not likely to happen – with the school's hottest girl crushing on him, friends who either can see ghosts, think they're superpowered, or are too dumb to live, and parents who can't quite keep it together, Saiki's life is anything but calm as he finds himself using his powers to keep the world functioning.
Tumblr media
The first time I watched Saiki K was several years ago, before I was even logging all my viewing via these reviews. I was just getting back into anime, after a combination of first college busyness and then a soul-sucking job saw the time and energy I had for fun things dwindle. After a couple years at a new job, I realized that I was doing a lot of work that left one of my monitors open, and that no one was nearby to care, so I pulled up Netflix and was immediately distracted by a pink-haired cartoon boy.
Tumblr media
Saiki is a comedic mashup of school and shounen tropes, and keeps its tongue firmly in cheek as it follows Kusuo Saiki (Saiki being the family name and what most characters call him, as is normal in Japanese culture) as he deadpans and snarks his way through life, just trying to get through high school without getting discovered for the immensely-powerful psychic he is. Unfortunately, a bunch of annoyances (his view)/friends (their view) hang around and hijinks ensue.
This is a series that just wants to be silly. The first episode helpfully explains not just that Saiki is super powerful, but that he has affected the world so things like brightly-colored anime hair are normal (so no one questions his naturally-pink hair), among other things. It's explicitly "anime logic works because we want it to," which was fourth-wall-breakingly hilarious the first time I encountered it. (It's still funny, 3 or 4 watches later.)
Tumblr media
Saiki is, of course, the star of the show, reluctant as he may be. His deus ex machina powers mean he can fix pretty much anything, but his desire to hide said powers, as well as a (however-reluctant-he-is-to-admit-it) kind personality lead to involvement in everything from deadly stage magic to Santa Claus impersonation to saving island castaways.
And really, all the guy wants to do is eat coffee jelly, and occasionally watch media or play a game without getting telepathically spoiled for it.
His dry, sarcastically deadpan voice drives the show as he narrates straight to the audience. You often can't tell whether he's speaking to himself/the audience, or to another character, putting him in the position of a narrator unwillingly drawn into the story itself. (Fun game: try and spot how many times Saiki visibly uses his actual voice, based on whether you see his mouth move when he speaks. It's not often!)
Tumblr media
(Incidentally, other people on this site have brought up the personality similarities between Saiki and Murderbot of the Murderbot Diaries books. Both protagonists would like to be left alone to their hobbies, both are unwillingly befriended and acquire a group of people they care about and also have to keep rescuing. If you like Murderbot, Saiki is personality-wise a very similar mood.)
The extended cast really makes the series. While there are episodes that focus on just Saiki (Saiki and multiple quests to obtain coffee jelly, Saiki vs. cockroach in his house, etc.), most involve his family (odd), preexisting friends (rock-brained Nendo, fantasy LARPer Kaido), and classmates that attach themselves to their expanding group through the series.
My favorite was a character who showed up in season 2, Mikoto Aiura. She's a fortune-teller and while she doesn't have Saiki's prodigious talents, she could potentially be a threat...or an ally. Truly, one of the most fun things through the series is not just seeing Saiki's reluctance to calling his friends friends starting to wear down, but the two other characters with specialized powers themselves. They give Saiki a way of being known that he doesn't usually get outside his family, and it's fun to see him realize he can enlist others to help on occasion.
Verdict
English Dub? Yes for the first season, and the fourth (6-episode) season, although the latter had a different cast. Both casts are fine, and I can't be entirely sure that my preference for the first season's cast isn't mainly due to the fact that I had more exposure to them, but Jerry Jewell's Saiki is so dry and sarcastic it wins me over. The second dub cast was good in its own right, and the cast did an excellent matching voices. There are several in the second dub that I prefer--Saiki's rock-headed friend Nendo sounded more like a person and less like a cartoon the second go-round, and several female characters were less high-pitched in ways I preferred.
So really: the dubs are great. It's sad that the entire series isn't dubbed, especially because the rapid-fire snark means subtitles sometimes go very quickly.
Visuals: Meh. It's not bad, but no one is going to watch this for the art, and it's often pretty simple.
Worth watching? Oh HECK yes. It's incredibly fun--I have watched this at least three or four times. It's silly and comedic, perfect when you want something lighthearted. Each normal-length episode is also broken up into five minisodes, so it's perfect for when you won't be watching for a long time, or if you get interrupted frequently.
Important to note that despite there being four "seasons," only the first two are normal-length (24 episodes each). The third are two extended-length specials, while the fourth consists of 6 episodes.
Where to watch (USA, as of June 2023): Funimation (season 1 only; sub & dub), Netflix (all), Tubi TV (season 1 only; sub), BR (season 1 only; sub & dub)
the summer i turned pretty 2x02 review
"Put this on" and she doesn't put it on. So then what's the point. FOR THE CHIVALRY, ZAL. THE CHIVALRY.
Oh, is this the episode they have sex?
Why would Belly know where Conrad's dorm is though?
Jeremiah didn't take the coffee you offered him but why does that mean you have to throw out your coffee too?
Ah, one Black/dark-skinned guy.
He is literally the best actor on the show so far and he's only here to be Conrad's roommate.
Exposition time: "He fell into a depression and was looking at your picture!" like who says that? If anything it would've been like, Ohhhhh you're Belly and that's it. Belly would be like "What's that supposed to mean?" and then you can be like "Nothing, nothing, just you know, it really fucked Conrad up when you two broke up." Like just make the dialogue a LITTLE natural??
THE INFINITY NECKLACE. Honestly, who cares.
"I know even though he won't say it" we don't NEED a voiceover here, oh my god, Scorsese can't be the only one who uses voiceovers properly.
How is it possible to care even less about Belly's brother and her mother when I care so little about Belly and this ridiculous triangle.
I skipped through this conversation because it's painful af.
I always find it rude when people turn on music in other people's cars lmao.
"Cause I'm always here if you ever need to talk." *suddenly starts talking* if it was that easy then why do this whole thing anyway.
At least Taylor is good at keeping up with Belly's lies but Belly why wouldn't you text Taylor the lie you said to your mom? Amateur shit man.
If you guys know each other so well wouldn't he know that you could do something like change a tire? And I'm not saying he has to know everything about her but they don't seem to know anything about each other.
The details on this show are horrendous.
Also a spare can only take you so far, you would still need to go to a mechanic to change the tire.
Belly, you were my best friend! WAS SHE?
This is the flattest argument. They're not even talking over each other, everything is SO contained.
If you hate yourself for forgetting him then I need more emotion. And he is STRUGGLING for a tear.
And she manages a tear when he's like you weren't there, you left me but her face is so flat, that's why I keep saying crying is about more than tears, like both of you should be DEVASTATED. At the VERY LEAST I should be getting Bellarke from these or from her and Conrad (ha, which I also said when watching Shadow and Bone)
Tumblr media
I know it's supposed to have been like a while since the two of them have spoken but it doesn't feel that way so their resolution happens SO quickly i'm like why even there be a "chasm" in the first place.
How are Bella and Jacob better than this?
Wait, how did they get their tire fixed?
Everyone is so bad at trying to act natural around each other.
"You always could read my mind" I MEAN COULD HE?
Just because you guys say it doesn't mean we SEE it.
Belly! omg Nicole! Everything sounds SO fake.
Why wouldn't you grab something from like a gas station on the way? You're just going to hope for Oreos? Also Conrad you had to drive four hours from Brown to wherever she lives you didn't pick up supplies on the way?
*gasp* hot cocoa! "amazing!" i mean,, is it?
again conrad/belly are supposed to be matt and julie on the couch
Tumblr media
or they're supposed to be ryan and marissa by the pool
Tumblr media
or jake and peyton just being themselves
Tumblr media
and there's just such a coldness to them. and i know he's doing that whole focus on her because he's suddenly serious and intense and it's NOT PLATONIC but it doesn't work when you don't have chemistry and are only capable of one facial expression.
of course a taylor swift song is playing.
they're trying SO HARD to be happy, like jeyton has great chemistry but i remember that one scene when they're in savannah and hilarie just overacts
Tumblr media
and that's what it is watching belly all the time while conrad is just standing around being jughead or jon looking at daenerys, i just i can't. i caaaaaaaan't.
and i've just seen too many play fights
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the love scene, the lighting is doing the work and so is desiree because that's the song they use in leo dicaprio's romeo + juliet and also it's a clear call back pjo's love scene
Tumblr media
but as much as i have issues with pjo's narrative so much about this is earned because there are callbacks, like i know i don't know the whole context of this show and of this ship but it seems like the only thing is the necklace whereas joey calls back to the time when pacey is like i'm going to count to ten and then i'm going to start kissing you etc. and brings it up IN dialogue then she whispers before the kiss, "my love" and belly's just here being like "no i know, no i want to" your voice should be different, it shouldn't just be like a regular conversation, like neither of you have conviction in your voices
"what is she doing here?" are you torn are you mad or are you just saying the line, sir?
oh good, it's over.
