@moonstruckdraws I just love how much we treat her like a lil Barbie doll spoiling her with all these pretty pretty stylish clothes but yknow what she fucking deserves it. I said she’d get her time in the spotlight eventually and dammit she’s gonna get it.

My original plan was to make the dress look more like a camellia but then searching up dresses on google I found this one and I thought it would look really cute on her. I know the flowers on on the dress do look like roses but it was really hard trying to find camellia brushes for FREE for procreate cuz I was not that willing to draw multiple flowers(nor pay), and the resize tool in procreate makes things like blurry the moment I adjust it so copying and pasting woulda just been meh.

And then some pops of greens to match with the leaves and stems of the camellias cuz I didn’t want it to be just ALL pinks yknow? Including the makeup surrounding her eyes :3

Anyways drawing Spring Unsprung Briar gave me a wild amount of creative energy so here's my pitch for a Spring Unsprung Darling costume

Some details just for fun under the cut:

•Since Lizzie is the designer of the original SU outfits, that's also the case here. Lizzie is perceptive enough of Cerise and her style to very specifically fit her needs without even knowing what those needs are (heavy hood, long hair, big jacket, all very good for keeping covered, no?). The same would happen with Darling. Lizzie might pick up on her fascination with Wonderland, the jewelry fashioned like chainmail or bracers, and decide to incorporate it into her design. I don't know if Lizzie even realizes how perceptive she is, she just has an eye for what brings out someone's real personality.

•In terms of actual design, my main inspiration was chess! I let go of the literal shape pretty fast, but I really liked the idea of her looking like a fancy chess piece as a nod to her wonderland shenanigans. Cerise, Kitty, Lizzie, and Cedar all have black and white recurring patterns with 1-3 main colors, so I tried to mimic that here. I mostly just used the color scheme from my ref sheet I did a hot minute ago

•The hair flowers and colorful makeup were non-negotiable of course. I did want to make the flowers have some kind of relevance, but in the end I just gave up and made 'em generic yellow flowers. Any flower symbolism nerds who want to throw their hat in the ring be my guest!!

•I basically just tried to orient the whole thing around asymmetry and reflection, and I think that worked really well in this case, I think it really makes her pop

•She isn't wearing her typical Charming crest, but the symbol is spread out in a couple of pieces. Heart gem at the center of the neck like normal, and the wing is made into one of those ear cuff things

•The background was just kind of a whim, but there is a reason for it. I decided a while ago that the Charming family animal is a lion, so any heraldry or heirloom or anything like that is probably gonna have that winged heart and/or lion imagery on it. If Daring is the peak of the Charmings, then Daring is a lion. Similarly, Darling is a borzoi. It's just different enough to communicate that she's the black sheep of the family, but has enough similar traits to make it clear that she's not in opposition with them. Plus I think borzois are whimsical as hell with the right lighting and I thought it would look neat

•You can see it right in the corner of one of her eyes, I was playing with maybe giving her partial heterochromia? I think I'm gonna stick with just brown eyes but I'm keeping the concept tucked away in the back of my brain for another character

This is an intermediate pdf pattern. I’ve marked it as intermediate specifically due to the use of the Locked Loop stitch throughout the pattern.

Please leave honest feedback on anything that could be improved upon!!

Materials needed:

White yarn (light size 3) *I use truboo white*

White fuzzy yarn (light size 3) (optional, only if you don’t want to crochet with Locked Loop stitch for the ears and body)

Note: you can use any size yarn you’d like as long as you have the corresponding hooks.

8mm black safety eyes

4mm black safety “eye” for nose (optional)

Thin black yarn (optional, for embroidering nose) *I use medium weight Bernat black yarn split into thin strands*

1) thurrocks and faulkner on their quest to the endless drear, with jasp, tapper and wallace in the background (or at least thats the idea). most of my time on this one has been spent adjusting values on the hills in the background, and its absolutely too vibrant and green for how i imagine the scene lol theyre also really shitty hills if you look at them for less than a second so. dont do that please LMAO

2) faulkner in his katabasian garb, sat in a river for to maximise his solo slay. this one is kinda old atp but the design hasnt changed much. ive mentioned the open-mouthed epaulettes referencing the mouth delivering/returning before, but the green uhhh idk thing is dried and woven seaweed :) the rest of the robes will be more decorated with abstract woven patterns and embroidery if i ever start working on this one again

3) now THIS is the relgious faulkner that was giving me brain damage a couple days ago, that ive since realized wont be fixed with the ideas a couple people offered because of the perspectice. its pretty obviously mimicking a guillaume dufube sketch intended for a ceiling that i absolutely love. the parts ive produced, im really happy with, but i cant work out the composition fully so its gonna be abandoned at least for a while. not to mention the absolute misplacement of a sky motif. its one of those paintings i wish i had thicker/oil paint or gouache style brushes on medibang for

4) my mercer design!! heavily inspired by paleoart from various sources. everything she and gage have is organic, except a very few, like her sheath (oblong metal with a leather "cap" around the tip of the blade, a real ancient design i found references for on google) and her rifle. the original image also features gage playing their flute while squatting, but both of those things are hard poses to draw and hard to find refereces for, and im not willing to put in THAT much effort god lord i draw for FUN if its hard im giving up baby

5&6) snare dog!!!! i love these silly guys but i dont like this design, its too wolfish and i imagine them sorta borzoi/greyhound aligned. i also dont like the way the face opens, since i imagine that as more of a twist. i do like the flopping tongue though and i liked the half assed rendering

The making of my Vortigaunt plush

Hi! I'm Silas and I frickin love vortigaunts. They're my favourite Half-Life alien :3

Yeah so there are vintage Vort plushies you can buy off like,,,, eBay n shit but they're all around £400-£500 and buddy. I am an unemployed college student. I cannot afford that. SO! I made my own >:3

This is Jeremy the Vort :> (Named by my Grandma BC she couldn't pronounce the word Vortigaunt) h is very silly and looks at me like a borzoi.

The Patterning:

Right off the bat, Jer is made from my own modified version of this pattern

The Face, Arms and Legs:

These were kinda tricky to make but I eventually figured it out :D (At this stage, their face will look quite scrompled lol)

Body:

Before sewing the body patten together, I attached the third arm through a slit made in the chest piece then stitched the parts together.

After stitching up the body (excluding the seam beneath the legs) and turning it the right way out, I thoroughly stuffed the head and body with an ungodly amount of cotton from college before stitching up the open seam.

i chose to shape the third arm last since it seemed, and turned out, easier.

Final Touches (Aka: Woe, Vortigaunt Be Upon Ye):

The teeth and eyes were the last thing I detailed. I just gently dabbed the eyes with red fabric paint while using an old, crusty paintbrush.

For the teeth, I stitched a freehand pattern with my sewing machine before cutting it out and sewing it under the 'mouth' seam with the teeth seam facing inwards so it was hidden.

So yea! This has been my silly little HL project I've been working on! I'm planning to make another one of my Vort, Void but for now we must wait :>

I would really love a borzoi and have done a lot of research on them, but my girlfriend is worried because we have a cat and some dogs like borzois are supposedly dangerous for cats. Do you know anything about that?

There are lots of borzoi + cat homes that are living harmoniously! It takes a little more management but you can have both. Here are some key things:

The cat(s) must be indoor only. Outdoor cats are prey. A borzoi could be fine with a cat indoors and then dispatch that same cat outdoors.

Borzoi that are raised with cats from puppyhood have higher success rates. Seek breeders that have cats.

The home should be set up in such a way that the cat has safe spaces that the borzoi doesn’t have access to. High up perches, tunnels, cat doors between rooms, etc.

The temperament of the cats can play a role too. Cats that get zoomies all the time and move in frantic patterns are more exciting to a borzoi than docile cats who just puddle all day.

Don’t leave them loose in the same room when you leave the house. A lot of borzoi/cat homes can do this but if you want that extra level of protection, crate the dog when you leave or put them in separate rooms.
