To expand the Opinions & Truth (O&T) blog, I started The Weekend Game Show (WGS) to educate on and discuss game development, to show why video games can take years to make, and to prevent another Cyberpunk 2077 launch scenario. My videos are available on Twitch, YouTube, The Titans' Discord, Steam, Rumble, and Odysee!
In addition, to provide educational material for game designers and artists, and some fun reads, I created a bookshop, powered by Bookshop.org, the Rendezvous Point (RP)! Check it out here!
Also, I share educational quotes to promote literacy, the legitimacy of video games as an artistic medium, and regarding a Cause of the Month to raise awareness, while giving Artist Shout-Outs to human artists to combat AI's spit. My 2024 books read—a paltry three instead of my usual 20 or so—but have been working steading on my new novel. The best of these is Craig Johnson’s Tooth and Nail—a thrilling mystery set in Alaska.

Software engineering is a field that has grown in recent times and is now one of the most popular tech fields. This is because software plays such a big part in modern-day life and business, so there is a strong need for software engineers that can research, design, and create new programs. For those currently in a software engineer role, you might be wondering how you can improve and take the next step in your career, particularly when there are so many people entering this field. There are all kinds of steps that you can take to improve as a software engineer, so keep reading for a few ideas that could take your career to the next level.Commit To Continuous LearningOne of the best ways to improve as a software engineer is simply to commit to continuous learning. There is not one sudden moment where you become an expert because this field is going through constant change, and there is so much to learn. However, when you accept this and start to constantly learn and develop, you will become a much better software engineer and stand out because you are committed to the cause. There are many ways that you can continue to learn in software engineering, such as:Reading booksReading blogsReading industry publicationListening to podcastsSocial mediaIndustry eventsCoursesMaster One LanguageWhen it comes to software engineering, you will find that it is better to master one language instead of having a low level of proficiency in most - “jack of all trades, master of none” does not get you far in a field like this. The best software engineers pick one language and stick with it; otherwise, you may struggle to manage and lose motivation levels.Learn From Senior EngineersAs with any career field, you should always look to those in senior roles and learn as much from them as you can. If possible, finding a mentor is smart because you can get career support and guidance, and they may be able to introduce you to the right people and find new opportunities for you. As you become more experienced, you may also find it helpful to support junior staff, and this will always help you to develop a positive reputation and stand out for the right reasons.Join Online CommunitiesFollowing on from this, you will find that joining online communities can be hugely helpful. Not only can you learn and get advice about software engineering, but you can also find invaluable career advice and could even find new opportunities. Places like Reddit are ideal for those in software and tech roles, and it can be helpful to speak with those that work in the same industry as you but in places all over the world.Understand The Big PictureIt is easy to get obsessed with the coding and small details when it comes to software engineering. However, those that find success in this field and rise to leadership positions are the ones that can see the big picture of the project that you are working on. This usually means that you need to understand the needs of the user and/or business, so it is helpful to see things from their side and also to develop basic business knowledge.Work On Your Communication SkillsSoftware engineers need to have strong technical skills, but this will not get you very far if you are not a good communicator. As a software engineer, you need to be able to listen to the client's needs, explain complex processes to them in simple terms, and be able to present your work and ideas clearly and with confidence and you also need to have strong writing skills. Those who excel in all of these areas of communication often rise faster than those with strong technical skills but poor communication skills, so if you have any weaknesses, it is important to work on these.Take A Masters In Software EngineeringIf you want to advance your career, qualifications will always be a smart way to do this as a way to develop new skills and improve your resume. For those in software engineering, a masters in software engineering online is a great qualification to advance your career.
This qualification will help you rise to leadership positions and develop the required methods to produce and maintain high-quality software.Know-How To Market YourselfHaving strong skills and plenty of experience will not get you far if you do not properly market yourself. In a field that is becoming competitive, you need to know how to stand out from the crowd and get yourself noticed. One of the best ways to do this is to create a strong online presence for yourself, including a professional website containing all of your background, experience, and skills. You also need to have a portfolio of your work that is kept up to date and shared with the world.Work On Your Interview TechniqueThe interview stage is the final stage for advancing your career and often the area that people struggle with the most. Interviewing is always difficult and stressful, but it is an area that needs work if you want to advance your career and reach the top. Preparation is the key to success in interviews, so you need to spend time researching the company, planning answers for questions that you are likely to face, and thinking of your own questions. Small steps like planning what you are going to wear, practice interviews, and practice runs of the journey can all be helpful. If you want to become a better software engineer and advance your career, then this post should help. Software engineering can be a rewarding and enjoyable career, but it can also be challenging and hard to stand out from the crowd, so it is important that you know how to improve and get noticed.

Marianne couldn’t answer that. She feels that even she doesn’t know what her family are like, that she’s never adequate in her attempts to describe them, that she oscillates between exaggerating their behavior, which makes her feel guilty, or downplaying it, which also makes her feel guilty, but a different guilt, more inwardly directed.
Normal People, Sally Rooney
It’s like you love them so you don’t want to make them out to seem horrible, but you also don’t want to erase the trauma they’ve given you.
