In those moments he wished, perversely, that he had never met her, that it was surely worse to have had her for so brief a period than to never have had her at all.

books i read in 2023: the rehearsals by annette christie
if it's too much work from the beginning, that's a bad sign. but if things are mostly great, you laugh a lot together, you love a lot together, you genuinely want to spend time together, then the work becomes part of it.

Artist Shout-Outs Shared
Current AI ‘art’ is created on the backs of hundreds of thousands of artists and photographers who made billions of images and spend time, love and dedication to have their work soullessly stolen and used by selfish people for profit without the slightest concept of ethics. – Alexander Nanitchkov

"Charlie, don't you get it? I can't feel that. It's sweet and everything, but it's like you're not even there sometimes. It's great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when someone doesn't need a shoulder. What if they need the arms or something like that? You can't just sit there and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You have to do things."
—Steven Chbosky, "The Perks Of Being a Wallflower"

This is a beautifully written tale set in early to mid-twentieth-century Bombay, full of fascinating details about the textile industry, the rise of "bioscopes" - silent movies - and talkies, and the journey of one family living through it all. Three parts make up the narrative. The first part begins in 1899 and gives readers their first glimpse of the classic Bombay of the past, complete with people wearing dhotis, madras, and dark caps. The main character is Tatya, and the First World War's impact on India's cloth sector is explored in the narrative. Tatya's astute business acumen is soon noticed by his kind teacher Zaveri, who suggests he go alone as a sales representative. Overall, the book is a historical fiction spanning pre-independence and just-independent India, depicting business scenes, royal households, the silent movie-to-voice transition in theaters, the lives of women at various social levels, and other aspects! I drew a wonky #bookstack for my #illustratedlifejournal of all the #middlegradebooks I’ve read so far. I recently finished re-reading #thegiver by #loislowry and then watched the movie. The book was better than I remembered it, but the movie was terrible. There was sooooooo much wrong with it starting with the age of the kids. They were supposed to be 12/13 yr olds. And the changes only get worse from there. I hate when movies get it so horribly wrong. Anyways, I’m having fun with these #illustrations though I wish the #sketchbook I got could handle #watercolors better. That’s what I get for paying attention to the size of the book and not the type of paper. #learningtoillustrate #journeytobeanauthorillustrator #illustrate #booksread #bookstagram #reading https://www.instagram.com/p/CoP4ViWJE30/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
