I started a new tradition — making waffles on weekends. Ken would always go out on Saturday and Sunday mornings to get us a treat for breakfast. Watching all the dads at the donut shop or at Starbucks or Dutch Bros doing the same thing makes me spontaneously miss him. - ♥️. So, it was time for new traditions. - ♥️. Yesterday marked one month since he’s been gone. It’s been impossibly hard for the four of us. We’ve encountered more hurdles in getting basic things done than normal. Alex’s car died and got repaired. I went to a dance performance by myself. I tackled and slayed more red tape dragons than I ever thought I could. What was hard now seems routine. - ♥️. What are your favorite kinds of cookies? 🍪 I've not had much of a sweet tooth lately (weird, I know), but when I do, my go to is either a classic chocolate chip cookie or a peanut butter cookie. Homemade, of course. I'm not wasting cookie calories on store bought! . . Do you bake a lot at the holidays? I usually try and bake a few things, but this year has been all about survival mode, so there has been zero baking at my house. Books & Treats #1 was finally launched to the world! What really took us by surprise was our wildly successful 'A Blind Date With A Book'! In less than a hour, every wrapped Blind Date book was snapped up and many kids and parents stood around waiting for more blind date books to be brought out. Excited to bring more blind date books to you!

Friends keep asking how we’re doing. Well, there is no “new normal” for us. There is just a Before and After. We sit firmly in the After these days. Through all the prayers, love and light you’ve been sending, we are slowly being lifted. The girls are in school, the college kid is back on campus, and my days are filled with calls. Lots of calls as I get my arms around everything. - . Things I’ve learned — people are kind. So kind. And we are surrounded by amazing people. Thank you to all who have texted and DM’d me with notes of encouragement. Not going to lie, phone calls with friends continue to be hard. - . So, as we piece together our life and seal the cracks à la kintsugi (Japanese art form of mending broken pottery with gold), we’re doing self-care moments. We are eating healthy, exercising and trying to get a restful night of sleep (melatonin works well). - . Today, I baked Jordan Marsh’s infamous blueberry muffins. The @nytcooking printed the recipe (it’s on pinterest), and it reminded me of the trips my Mom and I would take into Boston for shopping. My East Coast friends know these trips well. They involved a commuter train. A brisk walk around all those lovely, old department stores. We would always stop for a muffin on our way back. - . Much like the mama in Little Women, stress baking is something I do rather well. And I’m slowly returning to reading. With the encouragement of all my bookish friends, I decided to join in on Anne of Green Gables #readathon. It’s a childhood favorite and who better than always-positive Anne to lift my spirits. - . Selfishly, I’ll ask for you guys to keep up the prayers, the thoughts and the love sent our way.
