“‘Also I think Doug is a vampire.’ 'Um,’ Ophelia frowned. 'You mean, like, a metaphorical vampire?’ 'No, the regular kind.’” - Adam Rex, Fat Vampire 🧛🏻‍♂ Is there a nice way to say this book felt like a waste of time? I really wanted to like it - I mean it sounds so funny, right? A fifteen year old is turned into a vampire while he’s overweight? Vampire’s are always so perfect looking - this had so much potential to be awesome. The main character, Doug, is a selfish little asshole. He’s unkind and acts as if the world owes him something. And okay - vampire, but still, be decent. And while I dreaded every page of this book, I did like the female characters. Which do you prefer: cookies or brownies? For me it depends entirely on my mood. Chocolate chip cookies are my comfort food. Ghirardelli brownies, though, are phenomenal. I only eat Ghirardelli brownies... all others fall short in comparison. . . . Has anyone else read The Goblin Wars? I love this cover and really enjoyed the books in this series. I read them all fast. They didn’t exactly turn out how I thought they would, but I wasn’t upset by them. The Queen of Hearts, by Kimmery Martin // We love entrepreneurial spirit, which led us to first time author Martin of Charlotte. This witty and smart novel is a fun peek into life as a physician, with all the complicated human drama that comes along with life as a mom. Told from two points of view, the pulse of this book beats right along, making it an easy pick.
