Was that [MANNY JACINTO]? Oh no no, that was just [DARO NIRULUN], an [ORIGINAL CHARACTER] from [THE GREEN BONE SAGA]. They are [THIRTY FOUR] years old, use [HE/HIM], and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
this is niru! more info & potential connections to my green bone oc below!
how long has your character been here?
niru has only been here long enough to barely settle in, so: about a month or so.
what is your character’s job?
he'll be getting a job as an accountant at a law firm, to do bookkeeping and tax advising, mostly.
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom?
he's an oc so this does not particularly matter xoxo
has any magic affected your character?
no.
and any other information you might find useful for us and the other members to know!
his nickname is niru (nirulun, for long)!
he's a mountain clan member, green bone jade-user, around age 34, who-- in d.c. decides to leverage his relative anonymity to try and infiltrate no peak once he realizes they far outnumber the mountain here :) more details on that below.
in terms of family, his dad is born and raised in janloon and his mother is from the uwiwa islands. niru grew up in the fishtown neighborhood in mountain territory, but since niru's not fully kekonese, as he grew up there were certainly some people in the mountain that didn’t trust him/his family/had preconceptions about them, and he would have had to work twice as hard to prove himself. his family would have been very low-ranked in the mountain. they’re not legacy clan members; niru’s father is the first person with their family name to get involved in clan business directly, and his father didn’t get educated/brought up with the intention of being trained for the mountain. so ultimately, niru’s the first one who’s going to raise their standing, because he really has the opportunity to do so. he has two much younger sisters who are just starting their own training, and despite some bumps in the road he’s genuinely trying to pave a smoother path for them to gain some decent status when they graduate.
niru went to wie lon temple school as a prospective mountain member. he worked as a finger for the mountain for a while, and did show promise, but there was an 'incident' on the job with another mountain clan trainee (someone far more valuable to the clan than he was) that was so severe that he had to be removed from his position. after that, his position in the clan at all was in a little bit of jeopardy, until a mountain higher-up who had previously noticed his skill with numbers offered him a job in the weatherman’s office instead-- a gracious hand extended-- and he would be expected to pay that favor back with ultimate loyalty.
so that's how he ended up being an accountant for the mountain's weatherman office, and resents a little bit that he doesn’t get to be involved with the more action-oriented side of things much after relocating to that job, but he can’t deny that he’s good at what he does. he also dabbles in helping seek out patronages for the mountain, because he can be very persuasive and personable, and can put pressure on people without seeming like he’s pressuring them. he’s pretty calm and logical, and he doesn't necessarily enjoy violence (though he understands its necessity), so ultimately this kind of job suits him far better overall than working for the horn would have (though it should be noted that he still would have made a very loyal, level-headed fist, under different circumstances).
now in dc, niru’s quick to realize that the number of recognizable no peak members definitely outweighs the mountain, so he’s only left with a couple of options: keep his head down and pretend he knows nothing of the clan system, keep a constant eye out for others from mountain clan, or-- make himself useful, and try to get some information on no peak now that he can potentially leverage later. he will likely pretend he went to kaul du, and try to talk his way into clan business. he’s not exactly the same age as the kauls who are currently aware and wouldn’t have been at school at the same time, so they couldn’t prove him wrong. he’ll have to decide what branch of the clan to try and get into, though he’ll probably land on the business side of things again. even if he will be a mediocre spy, given that lying is not one of his strong points. however, the adrenaline of infiltrating the opposing clan will give him a little excitement that his office life lacked before, and it's something to make himself useful until more of the mountain clan shows up and he can return to the side he's meant to be on, hopefully with some useful intel.
connection ideas below! it should be note that anyone with a green bone fandom muse should definitely hit me up for plotting purposes, but other than that, connections that are open to any fandom include:
a house-mate? he lives in a nicer/semi-upscale neighborhood in a house (thank you to his well-paying job), but he still wouldn't mind cutting costs by sharing space. this should probably be someone also in their 30s.
neighbors/friends who are also newer to town and just figuring out where things are in the city and how things work here, so they can explore a little together
he'd also enjoy having friends who would debate with him. people who always agree with you are boring (to him), but give him friends who have heated discussions that are almost arguments, but then they can walk away from the night and still not hate each other LMAO
i think he probably still works out fairly frequently, though he's not intense about it, so people who are casually active and hit the gym on a regular basis. like for some reason i could definitely see him joining a gym basketball team that meets once a week aldksjfldfs
someone who might remind him personality-wise of one of his younger sisters, who he can be an older-brother figure towards; this could be someone struggling or in need of a friend, who he could give some company or guidance.
romance/ship-wise-- women to casually go out with/one-night-stand situations, or potentially more seriously date if it goes well (he's straight, and 34, as mentioned above).
when he ends up working for no peak in town, he's going to start reaching out to make business connections, so if your muse owns a business and might be interested in negotiating a connection or collaboration with the clan (they can offer protection and services), feel free to hit him up as well.
i think that's it for now but if you have any other ideas, you can let me know.

Friends,
I want to start today with a bit of history that sheds some light on what’s happening in Washington this week, and what Biden should do about the debt-ceiling crisis created by Kevin McCarthy’s Republican House.
On October 22, 1985, Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III told congressional leaders that if Congress failed to raise the debt ceiling by the end of the month, the Reagan administration would pay the nation’s bills by taking back Treasury securities in which Social Security had invested.
I remember being stunned at the time. It was an extraordinary move. It meant Social Security would lose interest paid on its funds.
If Congress still didn’t raise the debt ceiling, Baker said the administration would borrow from the railroad retirement and military retirement trust funds.
And if the impasse continued, the administration would begin selling gold from the U.S. gold reserve “even though that could undercut confidence here and abroad based on the widespread belief that the gold reserve is the foundation of our financial system,” Baker said.
Baker’s point was that the Reagan administration would continue to find ways to pay the nation’s bills, come hell or high water.
An agreement was finally reached after the Reagan administration had begun raiding Social Security but before it took any other measures.
The Comptroller General of the United States later found Baker’s raid on Social Security technically illegal but concluded nonetheless that Baker “did not act unreasonably” under the circumstances.
I recount this history to give you some perspective on the current debt-ceiling crisis, and what I believe should be Biden’s next move.
First, showdowns over the debt ceiling have been going on for a long time.
Second, they have often been fueled by soaring national debts due to Republican tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations. (The 1985 standoff involved a refusal by senate Democrats to support a balanced budget, even though Reagan’s mammoth spending on the military and huge tax cut had doubled the national debt in less than five years.)
Finally, fights over the debt ceiling have required Treasury secretaries to do extraordinary things to keep paying the nation’s bills — sometimes technically illegal.
Hence, there have never been “X-dates” at which time the Treasury runs dry. There are just ever more extreme government bookkeeping measures.
And there is no end to the measures the Treasury might use to keep paying the bills. Although their legality of some might be dubious, who is to complain? Who is to say a Treasury secretary acted unreasonably in paying a lawful claim on the U.S. government?
This standoff is different in one respect. Previous standoffs have been carefully-crafted dramas in which both sides demonstrate their commitments to their position, knowing full well how the play will end — with the debt ceiling lifted.
This time, though, gonzo lawmakers like Marjorie Taylor Greene and raving nut-jobs like the current Republican frontrunner for president have considerable influence.
And unlike Bob Dole in 1985, these players have no real commitment to cutting the government debt. (Were that their goal, presumably they wouldn’t have supported the massive 2017 tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations that fueled the debt, or would now urge its repeal. And they certainly wouldn’t demand cuts in staffing for the IRS, which House Republicans are also now doing.)
Their only commitment is to power — gaining dominance over, and submission from, Democrats, progressives, putative “coastal elites,” and so-called “deep state” bureaucrats.
For them, this is not play-acting. It’s not for show. It’s for real. If they don’t get their way, they’re prepared to blow up the economy.
In fact, as the so-called X-date appears to loom ever closer, their demands have escalated. And as Biden appears ready to give in to some of those demands, the demands will continue to escalate.
Which is why it’s critical for Biden to stop negotiating.
Meanwhile, he should continue paying the government’s bills and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen should continue using every bookkeeping scheme imaginable to find the means to pay those bills.
And they must never declare an “X-date.” And must never default.

528: Construction Accounting Concepts You Can Benefit From Today
This Podcast Is Episode Number 528, And It's About Construction Accounting Concepts You Can Benefit From Today
As a small business owner, you know that managing your finances is crucial to the success of your business. But with so many accounting principles and practices, it can be challenging to know where to start. That's where we come in! This guide will break down the essential accounting principles that every small construction business owner should know. We'll discuss how these principles can help you keep track of financial transactions, create accurate financial statements, and make informed decisions for your business. So, let's dive in, shall we?
Why Are Accounting Principles Important for Construction Businesses?
Accounting principles are the foundation for any successful business. They provide a uniform framework for recording and reporting financial transactions, ensuring consistency and accuracy in your financial records. By adhering to these principles, you'll be able to:
Make better financial decisions based on accurate and reliable data
Monitor your business's performance and identify areas for improvement
Meet legal and regulatory requirements for financial reporting
Build trust with investors, lenders, and other stakeholders
All Accounting Uses The Same Accounting Equation
Assets = Liabilities + Equity
Regarding construction accounting, several concepts can be highly beneficial to understand. Here are a few you can start taking advantage of today:
Construction Accounting Vs. Regular Accounting
Not everyone knows what construction accounting is, and easy to assume all accounting is the same.
Construction Accounting Is Used - When the entire place of business is packed up and taken to the customer. In essence, you are selling, assembling, delivering, and installing a customized product from a mobile shop on location. Think of it like shooting a movie on location without all the glamor, resources, and money to go with it.
Why is there confusion? From a tax standpoint, most construction projects are all lumped together, and after the Cost of Good Sold, Expenses, and Depreciation, you either made money or didn't. The Tax Accountant rolls the numbers to compute the annual tax return. Therefore, if the information is not needed to be broken down for taxes, then the Tax Accountant is not concerned.
As the Construction Contractor paying the bills, you are constantly concerned about which jobs are "Making Money or Losing Money." "Why does it seem like I am watching the money fly by and zooming out of my checking account? It never seems like there is any money left over!"
Materials
A construction contractor may purchase material and resell it to their customer. Thereby thinking it is a reimbursable expense. (You lose money when doing this).
Remember all invoices to the Customer (Retail, General Contractor, Spec Builder, Developer) are income. Every line item on a customer invoice is ALL INCOME. If the words are on the invoice, then the invoice is either taxable or non-taxable based on other factors. Washington State, for instance, has a clear explanation.
Purchases for the material are Cost of Goods Sold or are expenses if you are short-cutting your accounting. I have seen financial statements backed out because they will reflect reimbursable income as a negative number, thereby showing it as a deduction. (The net effect is double dipping on the expense side) The cause is that the accounting software is not correctly set up.
Cost Of Goods Sold (COGS)
It appears regular bookkeepers over their heads with construction accounting are trying to figure out how to input new QuickBooks transactions by copying previous transactions.
This is not an issue with regular accounting because there is only one or two costs of goods sold accounts (COGS), no direct COGS, no indirect COGS, no Work-In-Progress (WIP), no retention, no job costing allocation to consider, and only one customer "cash sale" in addition to several other variables involved in construction accounting.
For example, a material receipt arrives at the regular bookkeeper's desk from a lumber supplier, and they open the QuickBooks contractor file, look up the supplier to determine how the previous lumber purchase was coded, and proceed to code the new transaction the same way.
The problem is that each transaction is unique and could go into any of a dozen accounts or item codes depending upon whether it is a direct cost, indirect cost, WIP, retention, warranty, overhead, administrative, or other costs, or simply an expense. The cumulative effect of these bookkeeping errors in one month can do enough damage to the financial and job cost reports to bankrupt a contractor eventually.
Another example is if the bookkeeper generates job costing reports that are off by 10%, it could cause the contractor to make radically different decisions based on what they believe about the job costing reports.
If the contractor believes the company is undercharging, they may raise bid prices, lose jobs, eventually run out of cash, and file bankruptcy.
If the contractor believes the company is overcharging, they may lower bid prices, lose money on all jobs, eventually run out of cash, and file bankruptcy.
Many bookkeepers have lost their jobs and are freelancing as Jack-of-All-Trades and Master-of-None bookkeepers, doing whatever work they can find, and I understand that everyone needs to eat. I would prefer they avoid contractors and stick to regular bookkeeping like retail stores.
The net result is that more contractors are going out of business due to inadequate financial and job costing reports just when construction demand is about to grow.
Fix the giant boulders one at a time. Get that one thing working, then move on to the next one. What is the most annoying thing you can quickly fix? We talk about accounting because that is our primary focus.
Start with the basics:
Open a business checking account.
Use a dedicated credit card for the business (if using a personal card).
Create invoices, present them to your customer, collect the money, and get it in the bank (Do you have an easy way for your clients to pay you?).
Collect the money ASAP because, without cash flow, you are out of business.
No - the company with the most Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable does not win a prize.
Accounts Receivable means your customers owe you money.
Accounts Payable means you owe money to your suppliers.
Net Profit is the money left over. You want lots of Net Profit!
You are not a banker! Stop borrowing money using your credit cards, Loans, and Lines of Credit, then finance customers' projects at 0% interest.
Final thoughts
Becoming knowledgeable in accounting principles has the power to transform the way you run your construction business. Understanding and implementing these concepts in your construction accounting practices can improve your financial management and set your business up for long-term success.

Getting Your Tax Return Prepared? 3 Essential Documents Required

As we approach the end of the year, it is smart to start mulling over taxes. Even though the tax deadline is still a few months away, however, the sooner you get your return filed, the less you’ve to worry about it. While signing up a certified accountant in Falls Church, you will be required the following essential documents to get the tax return ready:
1. Copy of Most Recent Tax Return
Even though you may not meet the criteria for the same tax deductions or write-offs as previous year, providing the accountant with the last year’s return can help them easily access information and work out certain deductions without having to call you over and over again. If you are meeting a new accountant for tax preparation services in Virginia, this could even be a good opportunity to talk about any discrepancies that may exist between previous tax returns.
2. Additional Income Statements
Did you accumulate any extra income throughout the year? This may include interest and dividend income from investments, unemployment income, or social security income. You are supposed to get statements for each of these sources of income, if applicable. You will need to bring these in as well to the accountant.

3. Identification Information
It is imperative that the accountant has access to some specific credentials and information that can be used to confirm that you’re who you say you are. The social security card is the most excellent preference, since the firm for accounting services in Falls Church will need your social security number for each member of your family.
Filing a tax return is one of the more complex financial tasks you’ve to deal with each year. Rather than making it a DIY and getting frustrated over the process, it is always best to hire a licensed CPA in Virginia such as My Small Business Accountants.

Oscar Stanton De Priest
Oscar Stanton De Priest (March 9, 1871 – May 12, 1951) was an American politician and civil rights advocate from Chicago. A member of the Illinois Republican Party he was the first African American to be elected to Congress in the 20th century. During his three terms, he was the only African American serving in Congress. He served as a U.S. Representative from Illinois' 1st congressional district from 1929 to 1935. De Priest was also the first African-American U.S. Representative from outside the southern states and the first since the exit of North Carolina representative George Henry White from Congress in 1901.
Born in Alabama to freedmen parents, De Priest was raised in Dayton, Ohio. He studied business and made a fortune in Chicago as a contractor, and in real estate and the stock market before the Crash. A successful local politician, he was elected to the Chicago City Council in 1914, the first African American to hold that office.
In Congress in the early 1930s, he spoke out against racial discrimination, including at speaking events in the South; tried to integrate the House public restaurant; gained passage of an amendment to desegregate the Civilian Conservation Corps, one of the work programs under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal; and introduced anti-lynching legislation to the House (it was not passed because of the Solid South Democratic opposition). In 1934, De Priest was defeated by Arthur W. Mitchell, the first African American to be elected as a Democrat to Congress. De Priest returned to Chicago and his successful business ventures, eventually returning to politics, when he was again elected Chicago alderman in the 1940s.
Early life
De Priest was born in 1871 in Florence, Alabama, to freedmen, former slaves of mixed race. He had a brother named Robert. His mother, Martha Karsner, worked part-time as a laundress, and his father Neander was a teamster, associated with the "Exodus" movement. After the Civil War, thousands of blacks left continued oppression by whites in the South by moving to other states that offered promises of freedom and greater economic opportunities, such as Kansas. Others moved later in the century.
In 1878, the year after Reconstruction had ended and federal troops been withdrawn from the region, the De Priests left Alabama for Dayton, Ohio. Violence had increased in Alabama as whites had tried to restore white supremacy: the elder De Priest had to save his friend, former U.S. Representative James T. Rapier, from a lynch mob, and a black man was killed on their doorstep. The boy Oscar attended local schools in Dayton.
Career
Business
De Priest went to Salina, Kansas, to study bookkeeping at the Salina Normal School, established also for the training of teachers. In 1889 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, which had been booming as an industrial city. He worked first as an apprentice plasterer, house painter, and decorator. He became a successful contractor and real estate broker. He built a fortune in the stock market and in real estate by helping black families move into formerly all-white neighborhoods, often ones formerly occupied by ethnic white immigrants and their descendants. There was population succession in many neighborhoods under the pressure of new migrants.
Politics
From 1904 to 1908, De Priest was a member of the board of commissioners of Cook County, Illinois.
De Priest was elected in 1914 to the Chicago City Council, serving from 1915 to 1917 as alderman from the 2nd Ward, on the South Side. He was Chicago's first black alderman. In 1917 De Priest was indicted for alleged graft and resigned from the City Council. He hired nationally known Clarence Darrow as his defense attorney and was acquitted. He was succeeded in office by Louis B. Anderson.
In 1919, De Priest ran unsuccessfully for alderman as a member of the People's Movement Club, a political organization he founded. In a few years, De Priest's black political organization became the most powerful of many in Chicago, and he became the top black politician under Chicago Republican mayor William Hale Thompson.
In 1928, when Republican congressman Martin B. Madden died, Mayor Thompson selected De Priest to replace him on the ballot. He was the first African American elected to Congress outside the South and the first to be elected in the 20th century. He represented the 1st Congressional District of Illinois (which included The Loop and part of the South Side of Chicago) as a Republican. During the 1930 election, De Priest was challenged in the primary by noted African-American spokesperson, orator, and Republican Roscoe Conkling Simmons. De Priest defeated Simmon's primary challenge and won the general election afterward. During De Priest's three consecutive terms (1929–1935), he was the only black representative in Congress. He introduced several anti-discrimination bills during these years of the Great Depression.
DePriest's 1933 amendment barring discrimination in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a program of the New Deal to employ people across the country in building infrastructure, was passed by the Senate and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His anti-lynching bill failed due to opposition by the white conservative Democrats of the Solid South, although it would not have made lynching a federal crime. (Previous anti-lynching bills had also failed to pass the Senate, which was dominated by the South since its disenfranchisement of blacks at the turn of the century.) A third proposal, a bill to permit a transfer of jurisdiction if a defendant believed he or she could not get a fair trial because of race or religion, was passed by a later Congress.
Civil rights activists criticized De Priest for opposing federal aid to the poor. Nevertheless, they applauded him for making public speeches in the South despite death threats. They also praised De Priest for telling an Alabama senator he was not big enough to prevent him from dining in the private Senate restaurant. (Some Congressmen ate in the Senate restaurant to avoid De Priest, who usually ate in the Members Dining Room designated for Congressmen.) The public areas of the House and Senate restaurants were segregated. The House accepted that De Priest sometimes brought black staff or visitors to the Members Dining Room, but objected when he entertained mixed groups there.
De Priest defended the right of students of Howard University, a historically black college in Washington, D.C., to eat in the public section of the House restaurant and not be restricted to a section in the basement near the kitchen, used mostly by black employees and visitors. He took this issue of discrimination against the students (and other black visitors) to a special bipartisan House committee. In a three-month-long heated debate, the Republican political minority argued that the restaurant's discriminatory practice violated 14th Amendment rights to equal access. The Democratic majority skirted the issue by claiming that the restaurant was a private facility and not open to the public. The House restaurant remained segregated through much of the 1940s and maybe as late as 1952.
In 1929, De Priest made national news when First Lady Lou Hoover invited his wife, Jessie De Priest, to a traditional tea for congressional wives at the White House.
De Priest appointed Benjamin O. Davis Jr. to the United States Military Academy at a time when the only African-American line officer in the Army was Davis's father.
By the early 1930s, De Priest's popularity waned because he continued to oppose higher taxes on the rich and fought Depression-era federal relief programs under President Roosevelt. De Priest was defeated in 1934 by Democrat Arthur W. Mitchell, who was also African American. After returning to his businesses and political life in Chicago, De Priest was elected again to the Chicago City Council in 1943 as alderman of the 3rd Ward, serving until 1947. He died in Chicago at 80 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery.
Personal life
Oscar married the former Jessie L. Williams (c. 1873 – March 31, 1961). They had two sons together: Laurence W. (c. 1900 – July 28, 1916), who died at the age of 16 and Oscar Stanton De Priest, Jr. (May 24, 1906 – November 8, 1983) A great-grandson of Oscar De Priest, Jr., Philip R. DePriest, became the administrator of his estate after his grandmother's death in 1992. This included his great-grandfather's Oscar Stanton De Priest House, now a National Historic Landmark, which still held his locked political office. This had not been touched since about 1951. This great-grandson has been working to restore the office and house, and assessing the political archives—"a veritable treasure trove."
Legacy and honors
The Oscar Stanton De Priest House in Chicago, at 45th and King Drive, has been designated as a National Historic Landmark and city landmark.

Former KCFF Bookkeeper, Sophia Kim, Convicted of Tax Crimes in 2012
Monday, December 17, 2012
Sophia Kim, also known as Sookyeong Kim Sebold, a former resident of McLean, was convicted of embezzling more than $800,000 from the Korean Cultural and Freedom Foundation (KCFF) and failing to report the income on her tax returns.
Neil H. MacBride, United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Tax Division Kathryn Keneally; Rick A. Raven, special agent in charge of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation’s Washington, D.C., Field Office, made the announcement.
Sebold was convicted of one count of filing a false 2005 tax return, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison, and one count of tax evasion for the year 2005, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 1, 2013, before United States District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema.
Evidence at trial established that Sebold worked for the KCFF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cultural exchange through the sponsorship of the Universal Ballet Company (UBC) and other performing art events. UBC was founded by the Unification Church International (UCI) and Reverend Sun Myung Moon, and KCFF was funded primarily by UCI.
The evidence at trial proved that in 2005, Sebold embezzled more than $400,000 from KCFF’s bank accounts for her own benefit and used these funds for day trading, gambling and other personal expenses. She did not report these funds on her 2005 individual income tax return, resulting in her failure to pay more than $130,000 in taxes. In addition, the evidence at trial established that Sebold had also embezzled funds from KCFF in 2002, 2003, and 2004, for a total of more than $800,000 in unreported income.

1. Korean Cultural and Freedom Foundation was established in the 1964 and incorporated in District of Columbia.
2. In the mid-1960s, Col. [Bo Hi] Pak moved decisively in this new direction. In March 1964, he was the “moving force” behind the creation of the Korean Cultural and Freedom Foundation (KCFF) which sponsored the Little Angels’ performances in the United States, beginning in 1965. In late 1964, he resigned from the Korean army and his diplomatic post to engage in this activity full-time. The following year he persuaded Miss [Young-Oon] Kim to relocate from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., allowing her to take primary responsibility for church activities. Then, in 1966, he played a central role in establishing Radio of Free Asia (ROFA) as a second major project sponsored by KCFF. In effect, Col. Pak became a free-lance ambassador of goodwill, foundation director, and an activist in the struggle against atheistic communism.

3. Another witness [at the 1978 Fraser Committee investigation of the UC], Robert Roland, (230) described his friendship with Pak Bo Hi when Pak was a military attache at the Korean Embassy in Washington in the early 1960s. According to Roland, Pak was then engaged in intelligence liaison work and was also proselytizing for Moon and the UC. Pak told Roland of his plans to use the KCFF and one of its projects, the Little Angels, to advance Moon’s cause, as well as to help the Korean Government. (231)

the higher-ups decided it was a great idea to transfer the main phone line of our seattle office to ring at our portland office since their front desk person is “transitioning to a new roll”. the main problem is that that office is like 200 people with multiple departments and the main office for our region, meanwhile we are an office of 20ish that is basically only accounting and audit and i do way more than just answer phones. also like...what am i supposed to do if one of their clients calls and is like “i’m lost!” or “no one is upfront! i’m here for an unannounced meeting!” just be like “sorry, i am in a different state and also i can open google maps for you?” they of course announced this wonderful change the day after the tax deadline and told us on friday that it would be starting today/monday. COOL. they have a shit habit of firing admin people and then putting that workload on other offices. they’ve already done it with their bookkeeping and billing and refused to rehire a position at our office when someone left then continue to complain that they see us as overstaffed with admin. but yet! you keep giving us your work? so it’s not like you are correctly staffed, you just pass the work to other offices and then claim they have too many people! h8 u thx
also just found out one major flaw in their plan! when they transferred the phone line they didn’t set it up to ring in multiple spots. so like, when someone calls our main line, it rings at the front desk, break room and work room so if i’m away doing other work i can still answer the phone. but this morning, i come back to the front after being in the break room to make coffee and restock the fridge and see i have a missed call from a washington number, only it never rang in the break room. OH WELL. sorry i didn’t answer your call but looks like they don’t care so guess i don’t really care either!
