bruins hrpf recs from the server #5
Hello again! The theme for this week was ✨ a fic that broke your heart ✨ Below are our recs:
rec lists so far: || week 4 || week 3 || week 2 || week 1 ||
A (Little) Slice of Heaven by Anonymous || willypasta || 11,541 words || reccer's notes: this fic rewired my brain. I read it months and months and months ago and I have yet to recover. 11/10 I come back to it way more than I probably should
(and i’ve got a plane to catch) you drove me all the way back by @fvcking-damage || mcgryz || 2,862 words || reccer's notes: this is some self-indulgent mcgryz angst i wrote a couple of years ago, idk what i was writing out with this one but. yeah
and turns to dust by adjacently || Jordan Eberle/Taylor Hall || 2,130 words || reccer's notes: i can eat taylor hall angst for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
between your love and mine by @blindbatalex || willypasta || 6,360 words || reccer's notes: This is a story about trying to reconcile two sides of your identity that are at irreconcilable conflict with one another, and what having your wings clipped like that at a young age does to a person. I certainly broke my own heart while writing it.
dancing by @rasksmoustache || marcheron || 1,111 words || reccer's notes: This fic is so vivid and visceral and sad, it permanently altered my brain chemistry. Unrequited (but is it really?) marcheron which gets the feeling of loving someone and being just a little too late so so well
Done & Undone by @ghostgeno || marcheron || 14,428 words || reccer's notes: 2023 Game 7, the aftermath. Fair warning: I don’t reread this very often because of how effectively it puts you in Brad’s headspace immediately after the game, in brutal, excruciating detail. And yet. And yet. If you feel like being taken apart and then put back together, if you want to feel all the loss and tenderness and love that remains despite the loss, read this fic.
good at secrets by @fridgefishwrites || prefix boys; mcgryz || 4,017 words || reccer's notes: this fic meant (and means) so much to me because it just gets what trying to live your life and build something beautiful while faced with unrelenting homophobia is like. I love the non-linear narrative and the prefix boys but it was always Matt who stole the show for me in this story
like a stranger by blindbatalex || marcheron || 13,142 words || reccer's notes: not a fic alex hasn't read before (sorry bud) but i'm Obsessed with fics where the characters talk past each other and the angst compounds and this fic is a perfect example of that, amongst other things!!!
make no apologies by @sphesphe || marcheron || 3,757 words || reccer's notes: Brad gets himself suspended before the Winter Classic and Patrice takes it harder than he thinks he should. He plays it off as fine, things happen, just be better Marchy but it isn't true. He's angry. After the game, Brad stops by, they have a talk and lo and behold, feelings emerge! (And much more!)
Sixth Borough by bookhousegirl || Jimmy Hayes/Frank Vatrano || 3,067 words || reccer's notes: The third in a trilogy of fics featuring this pairing. This is a very quiet little vignette featuring two former Bruins who were not stars and did not end up experiencing great success in their time here. It exists entirely in the gray of adult complications and disappointments, and refuses any easy catharsis, and is beautiful for those reasons. For those of us who cared about the Bruins in the (relatively) dismal era between 2015-17 it may come across as a tiny time capsule; for everyone else, I hope the delicate way it honors the hopes and dreams of those who don’t become hometown heroes, who don’t get the happily everafter ending, stays with you.
Westward Expansion by bookhousegirl || Jimmy Hayes/Frank Vatrano || 3,625 words || reccer's notes: Jimmy stares out vacantly at the coaster climbing the track. “Just because we’re from the same place doesn’t mean we’re from the same place.” When Frank takes Jimmy to Six Flags, he expects it to be a fun day, showing Jimmy all the rides he used to love growing up. Jimmy is distracted though, melancholy because Frank has so much promise and Jimmy took so long to get to where he is.
Wolverine Feed by @sphesphe || swaymark || 10,659 words || reccer's notes: fic that makes me ill each and every time i think about it

Any nfl fic recs?
Absoutley!! I'm so glad that you asked, anon!!!
First, let me pre-emp this by saying that for some of these, you do have to be a registered AO3 user in order to access them. But I have the feeling that you already are, so you should be good to go. 😉
Second, I do have my favorite ships (DUH, lol) but also do read just about anything and everything, as long as I'm not too off put by it.
So, those things being said, let me get to the recs!!!
1) Checkown by Keiko Kirin
It's an oldie, but a goodie and one of my all time favorite stories, EVER!! 😍💕 Written in Tom Brady’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: Yes
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/595698
2) One Week, A Thousand Miles by bookhousegirl
Another oldie but goodie. The writing is so elquent and feels super fresh, even though this little story is eight years old. Written in Tom Brady’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/2621777
3) That’s All iI’ve Ever Been by bookhousegirl
A companion piece to One Week, A Thousand Miles. Written in Rob Gronkowski’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/3788728
4) you who were never the one by blindbatalex
A cute but sad one shot written a little bit after Tom announced that he was leaving the Patriots/New England. Written in Julian Edelman’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: No
Smut: Yes, but it’s not super explict.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23246110
5) It’s like you’re my mirror (My mirror staring back at me) by Anonymous
Out of all of the Edelmandola (Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola’s ship name) fics out there, this one is by far my favorite. And it’s a hurt/comfort, which is always a good idea!! Written in Danny Amendolas POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23865955
6) 99 Million Lights (And They All Shine for You) by young_editor_1999
Yes, this is my story and yes, I am reccomending it because I am so passionate about it and love it a lot even though I haven’t updated it regularly like I should. ): You don’t have to read it just because it’s mine and I am reccomending it, but I thought that I’d be amiss if I didn’t put it out here for y’all to check out!! The first chapter is written in Tom’s POV, but I am planning on switching the POVs as the story goes on.
Account Needed to Read: No
Smut: Not yet, but there will be in later chapters 😉
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/33687949/chapters/83724016
7) prom king by playclock
A Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs cute story!!! This author is so, SO good and I will be reccomending their entire collection below (as you can already tell, lmao). Written in Josh’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/36561613
8) a lot to ask for by playclock
Kind of crackship, but shhh, that’s ok. We will take it and run with it, especially when it’s playclock who is writing them because this author writes them amazingly. 💖💕 Written in alternate POVs.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: Yes
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32951833/chapters/81782302
9) love is not designed for the cynical (SERIES) by playclock
The stories so far within this series are called “forward progress” and “delay of game”. It’s a time-traveling story, but again, is well written and really made me get on board the Aaron Rodgers/Patrick Mahomes ship. Written in alternate POVs.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: Yes
Link (to series): https://archiveofourown.org/series/2231106
10) inertia by playclock
More Patty Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Written in Pat’s POV.
Acocunt Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: Almost, but no dice.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35739793
11) lofty aspirations by playclock
Basically a prequel to “a lot to ask for”. This is playclock’s very first story about Pat and Aaron!! Written in Pat’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/28492332
12) McBurrow (SERIES) by BeaverCrunch69
Two stories written about Joe Burrow and Evan McPherson. The first is called “Glory to the Kicker” and the second is called “Condolences to the Quaterback”. I loved them both and hope that this author eventually adds more to the series!! Written in alternate POVs.
Account Needed to Read: No
Smut: Yes
Link (to series): https://archiveofourown.org/series/2765752
13) Something More by kdsburneraccount
A sad one shot about Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Written in Matt’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: No
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/37294246
14) a one way ticket was a pretty good sign by ralbelern
More Matt and Calvin angst, what can I say? It’s really short though ): Written in Matt’s POV.
Account Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: No
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/13072830
15) and yet it all seems limitless by ralbelern
This is a multi-chapter story that was supposed to have more chapters, but then life got in the way and unfortunatly, the author never completed it/hasn’t updated it since 2015. BUT what is there is really, REALLY amazing and I loved every single chapter that we were able to get!! Written in alternate POV’s.
Acocunt Needed to Read: Yes
Smut: Kind of, but nothing too explict.
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/1146256/chapters/2321334
16) the golden boys (SERIES) by anabel
Playclock’s inspiration for their Pat/Aaoron all starts right here!! Written in alternate POV’s.
Account Needed to Read: No
Smut: I don’t think so, but then again, I haven’t read all of the stories in this series yet, so there could be some sneaky stuff in there that I don’t know about yet. None of the stories are rated E though, and that counts for something.
Link (to series): https://archiveofourown.org/series/2088150
Thank you for asking, anon!!! I always love sharing my favorite fan fictions and celebrating the amazing creators behind them. 😊💯📓💻😚💗
There’s a lot more out there that I haven’t read, but am intending to. I didn’t want to reccomend anything without having read it myself first though, so, that’s what it is. 🙂
On a closing note, happy reading! I hope that at least some of these stories are up your alley, even if not all of them are. Let me know what you think of these reccomendations or of these stories in general. I would be more than happy to have a discussion with you or with ✨anybody✨ about the joys and wonders of NFL RPF!!!

What are your favorite hockey rpf fics?
Oh man, anon anon anon, this is so hard 😄 I love so many, especially because I’ve gotten into reading fics for teams I don’t necessarily support. But I have narrowed it down to a few and I will tag anyone who has a linked tumblr on the fic
We’re gonna start off with my top three at the moment, but it’s a close call
Red Iris by @cornfieldsposts - (backstrom/ovechkin) I read this today and it’s fucking fantastic, the only Caps games I’ve ever watched are when they face the bruins so I don’t know much about the team, but this is probably one of the best dystopian fics I’ve ever read
Southern Light by bookhousegirl - (marchand/bergeron) I reread this at least once a month, just so well written with a fantastic setting too
Walk on Water by Anonymous - (wheeler/scheifele) Magic Realism is one of my favorite tropes in hockey rpf and this one just does it so well
Then here are some more that I love because why not?
why don’t we collide the spaces that divide us by @abellyofjellywrites - (marchand/bergeron)
head first (and no regrets) by a lot of things different - (parise/suter)
it’s not a new wave, it’s just you and me by sphesphe - (marchand/bergeron)
someone (very much) like you by @blindbatalex - (marchand/bergeron)
just a boy, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love him by draftlottery - (landeskog/duchene)
I personally recommend reading all of these, but I put the ships in there in case you want specifics. Cheers for the question anon! 🤗
#i love all these fics#and so many more#like i could gush for days about so many#they're all so well written#and there's other that I could put in here#but that top three is pretty solid#thank you for the ask anon!#hope this is what you were looking for#fic recs#i guess?#Anonymous

April S/G recs
I would like to do this on a monthly basis, but no promises!
Drift, by bookhousegirl. Sid and Geno find their way back to each other. I love the team interactions, the careful, gentle narrative voice, and the sweet hopefulness of the ending.
Vegetable, Mineral, by siegeofangels. I recced this when it was first posted and it’s still weird and great!! Geno wanting to plant the tree in Russia is the most romantic thing I’ve ever read.
honey drip; sweet and easy, by anonymous. Delicious A/B/O heat porn with omega Geno. 👌

More fanfic recs
Here are some more fanfics I have enjoyed reading:
My blood is singing with your voice by aphrodite_mine (Audrey/Cooper, Audrey/Laura, Cooper/Laura, teen and up) A man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night / May still become a wolf when the autumn moon is bright (“Howl”)
Turn again and turn towards by evewithanapple (Bobby/Shelly, general) "I think we should get married."
The Ghost of the Great Hotel by thesleepingsatellite (Josie/Harry, general) When a monster clawed it's way into her brain, Josie fled the confines of her body and became the ghost of the Great Northern. She's been watching ever since.
These deeds that have made me by bookhousegirl (Ben Horne/Eileen Hayward) It’s what’s in his heart that he should be worried about. Exploring the backstory.
What you wake up from by sewn (Harry Truman/Hank Jennings, teen and up) In 1968, Hank Jennings, star fullback for the Twin Peaks Lumberjacks, loses a winning game.
Under So Many Lids by rosedemask (Cooper/Audrey/Laura, explicit) Cooper was far away, and he stood at the foot of a staircase, in a tower made of steel.
Could you stay on the line? by pbhoney (Shelly/Gordon, teen and up) Shelly wakes up from a nightmare and calls the only person she can think of.
But I have promises to keep by monimala (Harry/Hank, background Harry/Josie & Cooper/Audrey) Takes place around the events of 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6 and uses some dialogue from those episodes as well. Cooper: "How long were you and Hank friendly?" Truman: "We grew up together. Hank used to be a Bookhouse Boy. Back then, Hank was one of the best of us." -Episode 2.2, "Coma."
Audrey at the Great Northern by Lydiabell (Audrey centric, general) "I am Audrey. I am six. I live at the Great Northern Hotel." Inspired by the children's book "Eloise," by Kay Thompsen.
Little Wooden Doll by lilacsigil (Josie/Harry, Josie/Thomas Eckhardt, Josie/Andrew Packard, mature) Josie has always lived by deals and bargains, so what's one more with a strange American ghost? But then Andrew Packard survives her attempt to kill him for the ghost, and she is left with nowhere to turn.
Try to Wash Away the Blood by desperately_human (Cooper/Harry, not rated) “I saw you waiting.” Cooper is smiling, “You and your coffee and your head resting on your shotgun. Were you going to put a bullet through your brain if I didn’t come back?”
Unforeseen Answer by bold_seer (Annie & Chet, general) She was looking for someone else.
Otis Redmund’s Great Whopper by cjmarlowe (Cooper & Harry, teen and up) There's nothing quite so good for the soul as an afternoon of fishing.

bruins hrpf recs from the server #4
Happy Sunday :3 Our theme this week was non-hockey aus (loosely defined) - below are the recs the server shared!
between garage bays by pastrnaks_sainz || lindholm/pasta || 74,131 words || reccer's notes: the f1 x bruins crossover i didn’t know i needed
Dark Horse by bookhousegirl || Austin Czarnik/Frank Vatrano || 4,584 words || reccer's notes: Providence mob au, set in the same verse as New Habits, also recc’ed on this list. I’m not sure if this one counts considering neither character (indeed none of the listed characters) plays for the Bruins anymore, but the grimy, seedy, small town sense of desperation and the concrete slice-of-life observations are so wonderfully evoked, you feel Springfield Massachusetts like fungus growing under your fingernails. I recommend listening to “Coattails” by Broods as a soundtrack while reading this.
down by the river by @thebluejayawe || tuukka/pasta || 5,916 words || reccer's notes: How grumpy Tuukka is in this is simply perfect; I also love the snowy wintery vibes and the developing relationship.
from ashes to beginnings by @007waffles007 || marcheron || 24,894 words
I’ll be home for Christmas by pastrnaks_sainz || marcheron || 6,553 words || reccer's notes: Marcheron WW2 au. This is very much a comfort read for me, the savage hand-to-hand combat and scorching sex notwithstanding. I love the way the letter is quoted in its entirety twice within the space of the story, giving it space to breathe and resonate.
like stars in a perfect night sky by blindbatalex || marcheron || 2,051 words || reccer's notes: All I’m saying is that if _Supernatural_ were about this crimefighting duo I would be so obsessed with the show lol. I almost didn’t rec this bc I’m still mad Alex didn’t write a sequel to it, but leaving us with that beautiful haunting last imagery (that final paragraph!) is a choice I have to begrudgingly respect
New Habits by bookhousegirl || Gregory Campbell/Daniel Paille || 5,927 words || reccer's notes: MOB AU!!!! The throughline of aching to return to Boston guts me, it's the perfect theme to use in an AU because it's such a central part of the 'being traded away from a team that you considered home' experience, so it really carries over perfectly.
Penicillin by Aaron_The_8th_Demon || marcheron || 6,180 words || reccer's notes: Post-apocalyptic marcheron au featuring the Bruins as a group of firefighters trying to survive the plague. (Think of a Fallout 4 mission where you’re running around Boston frantically trying to save your infected colleague from dying before you can tell him you love him.) The climactic resolution is handled so tenderly and naturally, so in-character and with so little fuss, it fills me with utter joy every time.
the secrets we keep by blindbatalex || willypasta || 3,751 words || reccer's notes: I loved exploring the outside perspective on willypasta in this fic, with a healthy side serving of forbidden love and what it means to know or trust somebody, not to mention of course, some delightful h/c.
shake it off (darkest before the dawn) by Anonymous || bruins ensemble || 5,892 words || reccer's notes: (Bill Haters Stephano voice) This fic has everything, it's got kidnapping, it's got spies, it's got whump, it's got enemy spies, it's got JD, idk what else to say I really liked it. It was one of the first fics I read getting into hrpf and had me like :0
Southern Light by bookhousegirl || marcheron || 8,949 words || reccer's notes: Antarctic research station AU. Marcheron. Gorgeous atmospheric writing that is working within a tight-knight insular situation. The author has a very evocative writing style, and the characterizations are wonderful.

Rules: post the last sentence from your 10 most recently posted fics (less if you don't have 10 is also fine).
Tagged by @snickfic (thank you friend!)
I'm only going to do my last 5 because I've only written 3 fics since September 2022 so there was like an 18-24 month gap to the previous ones. Hoping for more writing this year (reminder that my ao3 is bookhousegirl if anyone cares)
1 - Jonas put his head down and slid into the big ring, foot bearing down one after the other, heart pumping just as it should. (Always Some Kind of War - I wrote this last week!)
2 - Instead, she walked to the curb and put her hand up to hail a cab. (Open Cars and Brighter Stars)
3 - “Okay,” he relented and put his hand on Oliver’s back, felt the up and down movement of his breath, the ins and outs of being alive. (Gestures of Affection)
4 - It had been a long time, but he knew being in love by heart. (Negotiations and Love Songs)
5 - He could’ve waited, there would be plenty of time to tell him. But why not start now. (Every Minute of the Day - this is technically two sentences oh well)
Tagging @007waffles007 @sphesphe @siterlas and anyone else who wants to do it

So…i do write fic. I have been really hesitant to post it here bc I’ve been maintaining a wall of separation from my former fandom and what I write about now and am mainly interested since I started this blog only 2 years ago. But just hoping for a little engagement and feel free to peruse or ignore as you see fit? This is the first thing I’ve been able to write in over 18 months.

Alunissons, Dalimen (Alger, 2017).
