On the way they are to take no money nor even a walking stick or shoes for the road. Clad in a rough garment, barefoot without staff or purse, he began to preach a message of repentance. Within a year Francis had eleven followers. Francis chose never to be ordained a priest and the community lived as “lesser brothers” (fratres minores) – the name by which the order is still known. The brothers lived a simple life in the abandoned leper house of Rivo Torto near Assisi. They spent much of their time as wandering preachers in Umbria, bringing a message of cheer and song and making a deep impression on the people. One factor which differentiated them from other groups of poor preachers was their obvious respect and obedience to Church leaders and the orthodoxy of their teaching.

In 1209 Francis led his followers to Rome to seek permission from Pope Innocent III to found a new religious order. The pope agreed to meet with Francis and his companions. He consented to an informal recognition of the group and, when they had increased in numbers, they could return for more formal recognition. The group then received the tonsure and Francis himself was ordained deacon, allowing him to read the Gospel in church. Obedience to the pope would be a central feature of Francis’ First Rule (Regula Prima) drawn up and approved in 1210.

Their missionary apostolate continued to grow and reach more people and Francis’ sermons were becoming more popular. After preaching, the friars would return to their community house for their liturgy and personal prayer. They lived the simple lives of ordinary working people, supplementing their income, when necessary, by begging. They lived in simple huts. Their churches were small. They slept on the floor without tables or chairs and only a very few books. It would be only later that some of them became well-known theologians. One of the most outstanding of these would be St Bonaventure.

Among those who heard Francis preach was Clare of Assisi and she immediately knew to what she was called. Her brother Rufino, too, joined the new order. On Palm Sunday, 28 March 1211 Francis received Clare at the Porziuncola and thus was founded the Order of Poor Dames, later called Poor Clares.

Francis longed to reach out further in his preaching and thought specially of the Muslim Saracens against whom the Crusaders were fighting. In 1212 he set off for the Middle East but his ship was shipwrecked in present-day Croatia. Two years later in 1214 he set out for Morocco through Spain but became so ill he had to turn back. In 1219 Francis left, together with a few companions, on a pilgrimage of peace to Egypt. Crossing the lines between the Saracens and the Crusaders in Damietta, he was received by Sultan Melek-el-Kamel. Francis made a deep impression on the Sultan but failed to convert him to Christianity. He refused the expensive gifts the Sultan wanted to give him and returned to the Crusaders. Altogether he spent some months as a pilgrim in Palestine. At Acre, the capital of what remained of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, he rejoined Brothers Elia and Pietro Cattini and most probably visited the holy places in 1220.

Then he was urgently called back to Italy because of developments in the Order which seemed to compromise his original ideals of simple living. The friars had increased greatly in numbers (up to 5,000), new houses were being established outside Italy. The greater numbers now called for better organisation and administration which Francis’ simple rules could not deal with. The Church authorities, too, saw the Order as an important instrument of reform, even to making some of the friars bishops. Francis felt that this might compromise the witness through poverty which was in itself a criticism of the materialist attitudes affecting the Church. Francis then resigned his position as Minister General at the General Chapter of 1220. He was very much aware that he was not the kind of administrator the Order needed in developing along these new lines.

He was succeeded by Brother Elias of Cortona. In 1221 Francis drew up another Rule. After some changes, it was finally approved as the Regula Bullata by Pope Honorius III. The Order now had the full approval of the Church authorities but it involved concessions with which Francis was not at all happy. In 1221 Francis also initiated the Third Order by which married people could live according to the Franciscan spirituality.

It is in the later years of his life that some of the best known events took place. They include the setting up of a Christmas crib at Grecchio. It is said that Francis – who was never more than a deacon – read the Gospel with such passion that people wept. The famous Canticle of the Sun was written in 1224 when he visited Clare, who was seriously ill at the time. And it was also in 1224 that, during an ecstasy, he experienced the stigmata, by which the wounds of the crucified Jesus appeared on his body. While praying on the mountain of La Verna, during a 40-day fast in preparation for Michaelmas (29 September), Francis is said to have had a vision on or about 14 September 1224, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, as a result of which he received the stigmata. His companion, Brother Leo, later wrote: “Suddenly he saw a vision of a seraph, a six-winged angel on a cross. This angel gave him the gift of the five wounds of Christ.”

It was soon after this that he became ill and also blind. He suffered greatly from well-intentioned but crude surgery. In the end he was brought back to the transito, the hut for sick friars, next to the Porziuncola. Here, in the place where it all began and feeling the end approaching, he spent the last days of his life dictating his spiritual testament. He died on the evening of 3 October 1226 singing Psalm 141. He was just 45 years of age.

His feast day is observed 4 October.

He was canonized, only two years after his death, on 16 July 1228 by Pope Gregory IX, formerly Cardinal Ugolino and a long-time friend and patron of the Order. The following day, the pope laid the foundation stone for the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi. On 25 May 1230 he was buried under the Lower Basilica. His burial place remained inaccessible until it was rediscovered in 1818. A crypt in neo-classical style was constructed under the Lower Basilica but between 1927-30 it was redesigned by removing the marble decorations. In 1978 Francis’ remains were identified by a commission of scholars, appointed by Pope Paul VI, and placed in a glass urn in the old stone tomb. Assisi is now a pilgrimage centre for people from all over the world.

Over the centuries, Francis has become one of the Catholic Church’s most loved saints, not least in our own day. Some of this devotion, however, borders on the sentimental. He has been cultivated by nature lovers and even by ‘hippies’ while ignoring the heart of his spirituality – his devotion to the suffering Jesus and his commitment to a poor and simple life. Motivation

I understand from the beginning this blog has been about me – mainly my pregnancy, my birth and my ‘recovery.’ I have said before, but I continue to be overwhelmed at the reaction and response to what I have written, from people I haven’t spoken to in years, to possibly people I haven’t even met. With that in mind I now feel I might need to do a wee introduction to myself.

I live in Scotland with my husband, our son and our two Springer Spaniels. I am now living in the town I was born in. I went to primary school here and went to secondary school not too far away. My mum taught at my primary school, and my dad taught at my secondary school. (Yeah, I didn’t have many boyfriends at school – especially as my dad was head of PE and one of the rugby coaches!!). I think it’s important to speak about a major thing that happened in my life, because it might explain my mindset. When I was 14, my dad was killed crossing the road in Spain when he was on a golf holiday. It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me and my family, and that hasn’t changed. It’s been 18 years, but it you never get used to that – you learn to live with it. Every single happy occasion is tinged with sadness knowing he is missing it all. That will continue for the rest of my life. It’s become even more apparent now I have my son – he would have loved being a grandparent and would have been the best Grandpa ever. Cailean is Gaelic for Colin – we named him for my dad. We pronounce it differently to the Scottish Gaelic pronunciation, but I suspect it’s similar to the Irish. I’m okay with that. 😊 I mention all of this, because no matter how tough this journey gets, I’ve been through worse things, and I know there are always going to people in a worse position than me.

I studied Law with Spanish at the University of Glasgow. I lived for a year in Granada in the south of Spain studying Law IN Spanish as part of my degree. I became a lawyer in Glasgow, having trained in civil and criminal court practice. As a newly qualified, I then focused solely on crime. It’s less like Suits or Legally Blonde, more like: this cell smells of pee, the client stinks of alcohol, and I’m at a police station until 5am and I have to leave for court at 7am miles away. The gown was pretty cool though – makes you feel quite powerful, like a superhero – defender of the neds and the smelly. I do sometimes miss it – the challenge of being constantly intellectually challenged and thinking on your feet (literally on your feet in the courtroom) by some of the brightest legal minds in the country. The buzz of winning my first trial and being able to learn at the feet of the masters in High Court cases when instructing Counsel. I always thought I’d end up wearing the wig myself, but sadly legal aid is a shitshow and crime really doesn’t pay – what they don’t tell you is, it doesn’t pay the lawyers either!

Fun fact – the Spanish always comes in handy on holiday, and actually we were already booked to go to Mallorca when the doctor told us we were pregnant. Bit shit I couldn’t have a cocktail on holiday, but there you go! I had bought new clothes for it and by the end of the 10 days – yes 10 DAYS - only weeks pregnant, I couldn’t fit some of them! Start of the story of my life…We were in the hotel restaurant and they had homemade ice cream. Anyone who has been pregnant knows whippy or soft ice cream is a no-no. Anything has to be from pasteurised milk. It was roasting, the ice cream looked amazing – what can I say. I used my language skills to explain to the waitress I was pregnant, and was the ice cream made from pasteurised milk? She congratulated me and had to go and check with the chef but thankfully it was. So the first person in the world we told we were pregnant, was the waitress. It was in Spanish so I didn’t really feel it counted, but it makes me laugh even now. Even more so when ‘pregnant,’ in Spanish is a word that looks like it could mean ‘embarrassed.’ You can imagine when I was Uni student you didn’t want to be making that mistake in conversation!!!

Hope that gives a bit of an insight, but back to the rehab. In my last blog I mentioned the decision I made to definitely have surgery and hitting the reset button multiple times in preparation. I was due to appear at Grainne’s conference in Glasgow. It was so oversubscribed, that Lyndsey ended up sorting another date here at my local hospital for anyone who couldn’t make it to the Glasgow date. That was due to happen the end of March. The week of the conference I was due to see Lyndsey, having not seen her since the end of February. I’d still been working hard in between times and progressing where I could but it always helps to have a goal and something to aim for.

I had a trip to Belfast at the start of March. Some of you will have seen my posts about that – yet more queries about if I was pregnant, yet more jeans that didn’t fit. This story was getting old. Happily, there was a tiny gym in my lovely hotel and after work the two days, I hit that. I was feeling pretty good but as I mentioned I had motivation – when you know you’re going to be tested in a room full of some of the best pelvic health physios in the country, you don’t want to look weak and useless. If I’m going to be tested on my ability to perform a crunch with a double leg lift (thanks Antony!) then you better believe I’m going to work my butt off to give a good account of myself. Not only that, but Antony was due over to Scotland in May to run a course for fitness pros and physiotherapists (thank you Rosie!). We had agreed I would donate my body to the cause and we would finally get the chance to meet in person. Powerful thing motivation.

Then it just disappeared. Coronavirus hit and my appointment and the conference were postponed (understandably). Lyndsey kindly called me, which was unexpected, to tell me she was being redeployed to a ward and did I still have contact with Grainne and Antony in case I needed anything? That’s the incredible thing about these people – they’re not just amazing at their jobs, they are amazing people. That is why I am so lucky. That is why I knew I would cope – even if it was a bit rubbish knowing I will go months without physical feedback and what felt like nothing to work for. Wrong.

I’ve mentioned perhaps only a few times (!) how lucky I am and how much respect and admiration and just pure gratitude I have for those on my team. I’ve not even seen Grainne and Antony in person, but I undoubtedly count them as part of my team. How could I not? They have helped me progress in a way I never thought was possible. They have advised me in ways Lyndsey admitted she couldn’t, because if it isn’t for the likes of Grainne and Antony, that information just does not exist, or certainly not enough of it does. I am more informed now than I ever have been. That is down to them and everything I have been advised. I owe it to all of them, to work at this and continue to work at this regardless. I owe it to myself, but a bigger driver is not letting them down. That is almost more important to me than doing this for me is.

I was unwell for the first few weeks of lockdown. It was suspected kidney stones, possible kidney infection, after I discovered blood in my urine. Pretty scary especially when you’re in a lot of pain. When the X ray and urine came back negative and the antibiotics didn’t work (yep a trip to the GP and hospital during a pandemic) – the doctor was perplexed so made an urgent referral to Urology. They then made an urgent referral to Radiology for me to have a CT scan. Radiology apparently decided it was routine, not urgent, so I had to chase around three different departments. With it being ‘routine’ – they weren’t doing routine appointments during the pandemic so I wouldn’t be seen. Urology decided to get it upgraded as urgent as I still had blood in my urine. Finally, they agreed and two weeks later (this has now been going on over a month) I have now had my CT scan. I’m waiting to hear from Urology.

In that time, I felt pretty demotivated – I was in pain so rehab felt out of the question. The pain was mostly in my side, but also my lower back and lower abdomen. Not really helpful to then engage in exercises testing your core. Time started to tick by, but I was exhausted and just not really in the mood. Then a lightbulb just flickered on and stayed on. How could I possibly explain the next time I spoke with one of my physios I just haven’t bothered? I wouldn’t be able to look them in the eye and I would be ashamed. The pain was still there, albeit duller than it had been, so I pushed through. This is the resilience I was referring to in my previous post. I needed to forget about my kidneys and just get on with it. That’s what childbirth is about after all – you may be in pain or discomfort, but you just get on with it because there’s no choice. So do what you have to, but just do it.

I started posting about it again on social media. I had been relatively quiet, but I thought I needed to get accountable. I knew there was a chance they were watching (I wasn’t wrong). I addressed the things I would like to do and how I was managing that without direct feedback from my physios – I bought an abdominal slant bench with the idea I could try to get to full sit-ups. Lyndsey had discovered a 30 degree angle was probably ideal until I could overcome the initial angle from flat to 30 degrees – after that I was fine. Then I had a message from Grainne who had seen my story on Instagram. She told me to just do it. Forget the bench just do it. It seemed like a piece of simple advice, but she’ll never know how much that impacted my mindset (unless she reads this of course!). It lit a spark of less thinking, more doing. So I did exactly that, and before I knew it I had reached 15 full sit-ups. My feet were locked and that is still the case now, but I never needed them to be before everything. I’m aiming to get to a point where they aren’t locked. That’s the point - I have goals back, it’s just I’m setting them and not my physios.

That then gave me the freedom to test my boundaries – press-ups were on my knees and had been for a while. What if I did them full on my feet how I used to? Started with 4, then 8 on my knees. Next night, 6 on my feet, 6 on my knees. Next night, 8 on my feet, 4 on my knees. Then it was 8 on my feet, but 8 on my knees. Now, it’s more like 16 on my feet, and 14 on my knees – I’ve just done it over two reps. I started doing more upper body work with the dumbbells I already had. Then I started doing my planks on my feet – I last only a few seconds but this is usually after my press-ups and sit-ups so I’m letting that go at the moment. I don’t use the bench now: until the other night – I tried a few reverse crunches. My back wasn’t a fan, so will have to leave that on the shelf for just now and come back to it. Instead I’ve been trying to build more strength in the crunch with the double leg lift – I’ll explain why in a couple of paragraphs.

In between I got a very welcome email from Grainne – given how everything was going, she wanted to do another consult. Not just that, but somehow in the midst all of the chaos, she had put together an online version of the course that was due to take place in person and I was very kindly being given access as the live case study. Told you – amazing person! The course was really interesting, and amazing to work through - no surprises here. It was fantastic to get the opportunity to read more about what I was going through and the more clinical side. Of course, there are bits there are lost on me, but I like to learn so that’s not a problem. She is going to continuously add to the section on me because there will be further updates, but it’s crazy to listen back to the consults we had when we first started.

Our next consult was even better than I thought it was going to be, because both Antony and Lyndsey were also able to join. Lyndsey had started this whole journey of mine and was the reason I even know about Grainne and Antony – I was delighted she would get to speak to them ‘face to face’ as it were, for the first time. With my back giving me a bit of bother, I altered what exercises I was doing in the lead up to the call. I absolutely knew Antony was going to ask me to do the crunch with the double leg lift and I really wanted to not want to collapse in a heap like I did last time. I had to prove the work I had put in and that I was getting stronger. I actually practised some but had to stop, so was slightly dreading that part, but it’s amazing what strength you find when you need it. It was more or less the first thing I was asked to do, aside from stand there so they could see what the appearance was like. There was a comment or two that it looked good, but I didn’t really pay attention too much. Funny how I did a few days later…

I was honest about my lack of motivation, but Antony said it was a good thing – athletes need days off and come back feeling refreshed, why wouldn’t i? That’s what I love about Antony – he challenges your beliefs and pushes you to be better. He has such a knack for stating something so simply that it really strikes a chord and resonates.

The double leg lift and crunch went well enough, but the repetition tired me out. Not sure if I’ll ever get over that the way things are, but it definitely went better than last time. Antony admitted it was the hardest thing he would ask me to do and he always starts there. Good thing I love a challenge! One of the biggest takeaways I had from this were two-fold: I hold my breath when it gets hard. When I’m pushed to my physical limit, I hold my breath. Antony asked me to sing a note as I did a sit-up. I tried so hard not to laugh as it seemed so ridiculous. They must have all thought I sounded like the cat’s chorus!! (I promise I can actually sing better than in that video if anyone ever sees it). In my defence, it’s the same part of the sit-up that previously stopped me from doing one at all – that’s where I lose it. I now have a decent marker for progress though – when I can hold that note, I’ll have gotten stronger and sit-ups will be easier.

Secondly, when we were wrapping up at the end, Lyndsey said how much she appreciated being on the call. She said something she had never said to me– she knew she couldn’t help me get to where I wanted to be which is why she told me to listen to that podcast all those months ago. That was huge. You worry people are offended when you seek a second opinion, yet here was Lyndsey saying she was grateful they were able to help when she thought she couldn’t. See what I mean? Incredible people – I can’t say it enough.

When I said I had nothing to work for I was wrong. I’m not just working for myself – I’m working for my team. As little information as there is out there about Diastasis Recti, these people are trying to change that. The least I can do to thank them for everything they are doing for me, and so many other women out there, is to work my ass off to show their research, their advice, their practises work. That they are right, and I am proof of that. If you’ve seen my recent post, you’ll know what I mean. In under 6 months my body shape has changed massively – even to the point that I am actually noticing now. I would never have agreed before about that. I refused to believe or listen when people told me ‘your tummy is coming down.’ Oh yeah? Well how come the gap is no smaller and the measurements say it isn’t? I haven’t had those measurements taken since February. If I was gambler, I’d bet at least the circumference has come down since then.

I’m now back to doing more of the type of exercises I’ve always done at the gym. That’s liberating in itself, but I also have freedom to decide where this goes. I probably always had that freedom, but the reality is I was holding myself back – I was constantly checking in to make sure it was okay. That’s nobody’s fault – its partly the way people are trained to treat women with diastasis recti, but it’s partly down to my attitude of not wanting to do wrong; not wanting to disappoint. That’s innate in me and always has been.

There’s very little that is off the table now. I jokingly said I’d like to get to pull-ups. Well the response was a resounding, unanimous ‘DO IT’. I’m going to be grateful for the rest of my life to these people and I can’t even begin to thank them enough. They haven’t just given me all the advice, support and help when I needed it most – they’ve given me motivation, a positive mindset, and the freedom to choose the direction that this goes. They have backed me all the way and continue to do so. There is still such a long way to go, but what will be a very difficult and no doubt painful journey, is made a hell of lot easier with them on my team. I’ll need this when the days get tough and there will be many of those ahead. This is my motivation when I hit the reset button.

Airbus to Cut Aircraft Production by a Third

Airbus has revised its production rates downwards as it tries to adapt to the current market environment.  In Q1 2020, Airbus booked 290 net commercial aircraft orders and delivered 122 aircraft. A further 60 aircraft were produced during the quarter, however they remain undelivered due to the evolving COVID19 pandemic. Thirty six aircraft were delivered in March across the different aircraft families, down from 55 in February 2020. This reflects customer requests to defer deliveries, as well as other factors.

The new average production rates going forward have been set as follows: A320 to rate 40 per month (down about 33%); A330 to rate 2 per month (down over 40%); and A350 to rate 6 per month (down about 40%). This represents a reduction of the pre-COVID19 average rates of over one third. “The impact of this pandemic is unprecedented,” said Airbus Chief Executive Officer, Guillaume Faury. “At Airbus, protecting our people and supporting the fight against the virus are our chief priorities at this time. We are in constant dialogue with our customers and supply chain partners as we are all going through these difficult times together. Our airline customers are heavily impacted by the COVID19 crisis. Texas student getting a student visa to study abroad at the University of Barcelona (2019)

I thought I would write my thoughts and advice on the process in obtaining a Spanish student visa. My process may slightly differ from yours if you’re from another US state and/or if you’re enrolled in a different university/program.

***Quick facts: You only need a student visa if your program is over 90 days. You can only go to the Spanish consulate in your US region and you have to submit your application in person. If you forget something or do something incorrectly, they allow you to send them the missing/incorrect item(s) within a certain time period, though they won’t start processing your visa until they receive everything. My biggest mistake was waiting until 3 months before my intended departure date to book my visa appointment. I read that you can’t submit your application until 3 months prior- however, you can (and should) book your appointment as soon as you get accepted to a program in Spain. When I looked in July for August appointments so that I could leave in September, there was no availability until December. After checking (literally) every hour to see if anyone cancelled, I was able to book an appointment two weeks before my classes were supposed to start. I continued checking often for an earlier appointment, and I decided to email them about my problem. They actually opened a new student visa specific category (before there was only a category for general visas). My advice is to go online and book an appointment scheduled for at least 2 months before your departure date (the visa takes 2-4 weeks to process after your appointment, and you won’t want to book your flight until your visa is approved).

DEALING WITH CONFUSING REQUIREMENTS

Make sure to make two photocopies of everything- one for your own records and one for the consulate.

1. Application form- pretty self-explainable. Make sure to glue your photos on two application forms, and sign and date at the end. Then make 1-2 photocopies for them (I made 2).

2. Passport- ensure the expiration date is at least three months past your intended return date.

3. ID- nothing complicated about this.

4. Passport photos- I got 2 photos at CVS for about $16 which I think is ridiculous, but they make sure that the photos meet passport requirements.

5. Acceptance letter- try to include all the little details they ask for. My program did not have a fax number, but it wasn’t a problem for me. You don’t need a signed hardcopy- a digitally signed one is enough.

6. Evidence of funds- for my situation, my parents are financially supporting me. I wrote the following letter (I excluded my mom’s typed name/number/email below the signature line) and asked my mom to sign it.

Then we took it to the UPS store and asked them to notarize it for about $6 (it could have been free at my Wells Fargo bank but they needed me to type certain words, and they were being vague about it). You also need to print out the last 3 months of bank statements of their account, and bring a photocopy of your parent(s) IDs.

8. Police criminal record- I assume the process varies from state to state and you can figure it out online. To obtain a fingerprint state background check in Texas (also listed are West Virginia, New York, and Colorado), click on this link:

The service code is 11FT12. I was able to book an appointment within the week, and it took less than a week to have my background check mailed to me. Make sure that you request the background check to be notarized. After you receive the document,  you will need to get an apostille. In Texas, there is only one Secretary of State located in Austin, which is where you can get an apostille:

No appointment is necessary. If there is no line, it takes less than five minutes for the secretary to stamp your document and process your $15 payment. I paid with a credit card, and they asked me to write down the card information (not sure why since it was in-person that they swiped the card). You can also mail your document instead, along with the items requested (a form stating the country’s name, money, and pre-paid envelope). I emailed them about that option and they sent me the form, but I chose to go in-person because of my time constraints.

9. Medical certificate- the hardest part for me at this step was finding a doctor, since I didn’t have a regular physician. I tried urgent care centers like CareNow, but they refused to sign anything because they didn’t know me well enough. Luckily, I came across this website used for US Citizenship applications:

The doctors listed on this website have encountered legal certificates before so I started calling the ones nearby to see if any accepted new patients and was covered by my insurance. Make sure to explain that you need a signed certificate for your student visa to study abroad in Spain, and that you found them on the USCIS website. I was able to book an appointment that week where they did a check-up and some bloodwork. Then I picked up my signed and stamped certificate within about a week. Here is the sample I used:

11. Envelope- I went to a US post office and asked for a pre-paid envelope with a tracking number. It was about $25 for a cardboard envelope, a little bigger than the size of a paper (not sure the exact dimensions, but you can fit regular sized printing paper inside). You don’t need to fill out the “From” part because the consulate can stamp their address on it (you can if you want to though). Make sure to fill out the “To” part with your address.

The office was a little hidden in Houston, but my Uber driver was able to locate the building. I arrived about half hour early just in case. The office was really small- maybe 20 chairs for a small waiting area, and 4 windows to call up everyone with appointments. They didn’t call me until about half hour past my appointment time. I handed them all the documents including my passport, but not the envelope or money, and I went to sit back down while they reviewed my documents. When they called me back up to the window, they said everything was good, so I handed them the envelope and money (I paid with exact cash- you could also pay with a money order). And that’s it!

WAITING FOR MY VISA

They say it can take 2-4 weeks for your visa to be approved and mailed back to you. I think for me it took a couple of weeks before I received the envelope in the mail. It included the documents with the consulate stamp on each one, my passport with a visa page, and a yellow paper telling me to get my residence card within thirty days of my arrival in Spain. He did more than that unfortunately, by salvaging a Romanism as close to dying as it would ever be, for J-R supplied cannon-fodder (men) & arms to his-legions, so he paid a large-tribute (from citizen-taxes) to the Goths to get them to withdraw back to the Balkans—thus he swept-away all obstructing J-Cs path & saved their bacon (damn!). “Towards 378-9, the small & depressed remnant of the Orthodox Party in Constantinople sent him (Gregory of Nazianus) an urgent summons to undertake the task of resuscitating their cause, so long persecuted & borne down by the Arians of the capital (Rome) . . . the Orthodox Party speedily gathered strength; & the small apartment in which they had been accustomed to meet was soon exchanged for a vast & celebrated Church…”

The famous J-C Church of Ambrose, @ Milan, was surrounded by Arianism, Gallicanism, Paulicianism, Marcionism, & Mithraism (still very-popular throughout Italy). Nominally an Arian, Gratian suppressed Mithraist temples & ceremonies in Rome, forbade legacies of property to their-vestals, & confiscated their-revenues, while ignoring the outcries of Mithraist-members of the Roman Senate—instigated by Ambrose! But this unprecedented-grant of J-C freedom was momentary, for at its northern-border, the Roman Empire faced the armies of 3 large-tribes (Goths, Vandals, Huns). That same year, Valens, Emperor of the East, was defeated & slain by the Goths, bringing Gratian to the throne. Later, Gratian’s pro-JC policy, & his decline into indolence, cost him the loyalty of his army; w/o defense in 383 he fled to Lyon only to be slain by his general Maximus, leaving his western-empire for Theodosius to appoint a successor. Three-years earlier, to adhere to the responsibility given by Gratian, Theodosius had himself baptized R-C, while the ARIAN(GOTHIC) armies waited-out another 12-yrs. to attack him & take all the tribute. It was under these fragile-circumstances that he issued his famous decree—the THEODOSIAN CODE, which reads in-part: “We order that the adherents of this faith be called Catholic Christians; we brand ALL THE SENSELESS FOLLOWERS of the other religions with the infamous name of HERETICS, & forbid their conventicles assuming the name of churches. Besides the condemnation of divine justice, they must expect heavy penalties which our authority, guided by heavenly wisdom, shall think proper to inflict.” (Schaff; Nicene & Post-Nicene Christianity, V.1, p. 142) (Kurtz; Church History, V.2). (He, at least, had the ‘decency’ not to call it “Christianity”.) He backed his-decree with A TRAIL OF BLOOD & KILLING, halted only by his death (395); one of his-campaigns—the massacre of 7,000 christians & others @ Thessalonica in 390—even drawing the criticism of his-own Bishop, Ambrose. It lasted 12-short-years, for the empire was in 395 after his death immediately REinvaded, by Alaric I, who took Thrace, Greece, Italy—threw the T.-CODE into the flames, & REestablished Arian rule for another 131-years! BUT he made a tragic-error, for which civilization was to pay for the next 15-CENTURIES!! Even with his armies in control & his generals in the courts, even with people still-struggling to recover from 12-years of persecution-death-barbarism & the example of what J-R would do if given the reigns of power—instead of exterminating J-R then & there, he ALLOWED Ambrose to approach him with a deputation of JC-senators & plead for mercy. And with all the judgement of a baby touching a vampire, he GRANTED it!! (So-like today’s gullibles re ‘toleration’!!) The bill for this horrific blunder was paid by every xtian-nation in the area 131-yrs. later, when they got Justinian!

Some measure of the fear that J-R had of Arianism is in the fact that the Council of Nicaea was called to invoke the temporal-power of the empire to suppress them. Yet, how-fearsome it still-represents to Anglicans & Romanists is seen in Stanley’s book, in which he has two long-chapters about the Council w/o citing this highly-significant fact; but it is in bits & pieces in censored/one-sided church history texts. In an OBJECTIVE history of Arianism is found Its threat to J-R, & for logical-reasons, ie, it being popular, growing-rapidly, holding to Internalism, & having powerful-friends in the Imperial Court; J-R was desperate to stop it, but the only Device they had was a Council.

There were solid-reasons for its popularity. Eusebius, Sozomen, etc, & their later critics (Mosheim, etc) place the conflict between J-C & Arianism MISTAKENLY on their disparate-views of the relation of Christ to God, MISinterpreting what was really there, at the expense of its application to contemporary-theology; as that argument—now 1,676 yrs. old—is still very-much at issue, ie, contemporary-views re what Xtianity really-is & what it was intended to be. The relationship of Christ to God was not the real-issue @ Nicaea (tho’ that is what came-down from JR-historians) but was re internal vs. external concepts. The real-issue was JRs externalizing the Logos vs. Xtianity’s maintaining it as internal-change. Not the nature of Christ, but the LOCATION of the Logos/Christos/Power-Spark-of-God re the human-body was at stake. JR was imposing its bogus Trinitarianism, but ARIUS rejected ALL the JR-concepts (Nicene Creed; physical-resurrection / Trinity; external-Logos / Human-Sacrifice for others’ sins / External Redemption). Arianism held to the Original-concepts (God-power existing in ALL MEN only by-which they redeem-themselves).The Ju-historians of that time (on whom too-much modern-analysis still depends) wrote the real nature of these arguments INcorrectly to further disguise (for posterity) the true nature of the debates. Instead of A Christ (proper-noun) & HIS link to God ((as told)) they spoke of THE Christ (adjective) & ITS link to God, ((they did not)) which alters the extraneous fanaticism, ie, in their true-form free of distortions they were not debating the nature of Jesus at all, but the nature of the human soul. But it still wouldn’t dispel the general-condition of that period/time as being the lowest intellectual depth in 1,000-yrs. (Guizot).

Arius’ views on the nature of Christ (as told by JR-writers) have been DISTORTED at the expense of the more-revealing components of Arianism; exactly the same done to our good Atheism (by theists). The Arian-philosophy = Arius said worshipping Christ as Deliverer was idolatry (Adeney, p.45) & that it (THE Christ), NOT he, belonged to our nature; Arius rejected both Testaments, having his-own selection of scripture-lit; He rejected JCs “Faith” as being a trick, designed to make laity dependent-upon priests. He held to Gnostic-logic, advocating it was dangerous to give one’s power of deductive-reason to the interpretation of others (priests or otherwise), especially re one’s link to God; His-system was deliberately-free of the obscurities & burdensome extrapolations of popular-theology in the idea that the essential problem of transfiguration was not theological or analytical, but mystical/spiritual. Adeney (& others) claims that this (& his-training at Antioch) means his system of logic was Aristotelian (which does not hold-up under examination). He’d taken training (not from a Romanist-Aristotelian) from Lucian, Bishop of Antioch (285) & from a confirmed-Paulician (Paul, ArchBishop of Samosata), making his logic Platonist (internal); Arius said that the “sonship” of Christ was only FIGURATIVE, distorted from its Original Logos-doctrine, ie, the “son of god” being symbolized by Jesus. In this sense, the Christ-within could be conceived as a mediator, as it was via the Christos that men are spiritually resurrected & their-souls reunited with God. But the idea of a PERSON named ‘Christ’ outside the body had no meaning/application to the process of salvation of souls whatsoever; He repudiated John’s Logos-doctrine; He held the church-process be made simple, not bogged down in burdensome unending dogma-protocol-ceremony-ritual-edifices having naught to do with individual-morality or the work of the soul.

These were all ENTRAPMENTS J-C was weaving to create the mythical-dream of “holy-upliftment”, but that delivers nothing.Gwatkin (outspoken-antagonist) lists other-points re Arienism, ie, Pelagianism (Pelagius; “Free-Will”); Dualism of god & man (Platonist-Zoroastrianist); Freedom/Independence of man; were essential-elements with Arius. Jesus was human (like us) but had been transfigured, placing the Logos within humans (where it was before Philo). But Gwatkin said Arius was “denying the Lord’s dignity”. To the contrary, it is Original-teaching.From this it’s evident Arius’ views were not-extreme, but were non-ju, rejecting those OT-claims J-C was foisting. He could never have brought such ju-lies to the Gothic & Burgundian Tribes of the North, so after his-death, Arianism spread-across Southern-Europe (from Dacia & Moera, now modern-Romania, to Southern-France & into Spain). And it was this preserved-Internalism which penetrated the Roman Empire.

Arius was under-attack because he had brought Gnostic-Christology forward as a formal theology surviving on its-own as popular & gaining adherents; whose authenticity/credentials he could demonstrate with JC unable to challenge (w/o force). His-theology, therefore, was in the mainstream of xtian-thinking. The JC-bishops at Nicaea did not favor Gnosticism & were trying to override it again out of their-own churches from within.

Unquestionably, tolerance & a break with past-precedent was granted JC by Constantine’s Edict, but nothing to fit the lying-impression of standard historical-treatment. There were ramifications, & considering these, changes first-impressions that JC became the official-theism via this-edict, as if by magic-thaumaturge… far from it. It’s true, Xtianity’s condition improved in 312. It’s not-true, that JC was the only beneficiary, or that Paganism was put to the torch, or that any other substantive-change accompanied the edict re the status of the other-religions prevalent in Rome before 312, for Rome continued to be what it was before, ie, open to all; every-theism had freedom there, EXCEPT J-C.

By the time of the Council, Arius was 75. For 45-years he’d been consecrating his-own bishops & churches as part of the Greek-church which had yet to be controlled by JC. When the doctrinal-conflict arose in the G.-church, many of his-bishops went North on their-own to begin converting those-tribes. Others remained within the empire to try to rectify-control in the G.-church, while still-others split-off to form their-own independent-churches. By 350, there were 5 distinct branches of Arianism within the empire alone.Initially, Constantine’s endorsement went to the JCs, mainly on misleading info about Arius, from his-opponents. (Another ju-tactic, even today re foreign-policy, re Aryans, re everyone jews hate!) But Arius had powerful-friends, among them Constantine’s daughter, Constantia, a confirmed-Arian. Although they disagreed, at her urging the Arian-priests at the Council signed its-creed, revealing heavy political-pressure/ju-lies around Constantine; it being in their-interest to placate with low-profile at that-time. Another powerful-friend at this Council, Eusebius, Bishop of Nicomedia, had the backing of Constantine, & endorsing the Arian-cause, calmly brought him to reconsideration. In 329, Constantine sent a cordial-letter to Arius, requesting his-presence at Constantinople. There, he became SO CONVINCED from Arius’ CAIM & COMPASSIONATE explanation ((the way to go for AAs teaching/mentoring AAism!!)) that he reversed his-policy, deposed J-C & Athanasius their-leader @ Alexandria, & re-established Arianism in the empire. (Athanasius, father of Greek-Orthodoxy, fled! -Mosheim; ibid, p. 296-7); (Can we do this to them today!?!).

Through Eusebius, Arius gained the support of yet-another in Egypt, ie, Miletius, of Lycopolis (Asuit, south of Cairo), whose letters, envoys to the emperor, & diplomatic-persuasion, helped in his reinstatement. The independence of the Miletian-Party also shows the frailty of JC in 325 as the standard of xtianity. During the Diocletian Persecution (306), Miletius split from the Alexandrian See, ordained his-own churches & bishops in Egypt & Palestine (Church of The Martyrs, Thebes), &, 50-years after his-death, partly by having joined the Arian-cause, his anti-JCism totalled ¼ of xtianity in that region, ie, the formalized Miletian-Church.With the JCs out of office at Alexandria, in 330 Arius went there to take his-chair as Bishop amidst the cheers of his-followers, but then was given A POISON causing HIS-BOWELS TO DISCHARGE & he died IN EXCRUCIATING-AGONY! (Mosheim). (His-place was taken by another-Arian.) (+Note 23 = This is typical of Jew-Hatred/Cruel-Revenge! I must wonder, is such an end to a noble-man as he the reward by a just-“god”?) JC/JR continued-agitating during all of Arianism’s reign, creating a ‘see-saw’ effect among the emperors after Constantine, until the invasion by the Arian-Goths.

ALL Thai Airways Staff on Temporary Leave From 4 April

Thai Airways has announced that all of its staff will be placed on temporary leave from 4 April to 31 May 2020. The airline suspended flights on 1 April and is currently hoping to resume operations on 31 May 2020, though this could change depending on the COVID19 pandemic and the many different global travel restrictions and border closures. All Thai Airways' overseas offices have also been temporarily closed and some of the staff were transferred to Bangkok.

Thai Airways' customers will still be able to contact the airline through the following channels: - For ticketing, contact the Larn Luang office on weekdays, except public holidays, from 08:00 to 17:00. - For reservations, contact the 24/7 contact center on 02 356 1111. - For cargo the 24/7 contact center telephone number is 02 137 4200. According to the airline, the above services are being provided by volunteers who would normally be working as Thai Airways' pilots and cabin crew. Passengers can also try to make changes to their itineraries personally on Thai Airways' website. A statement issued by the airline on 2 April 2020, said, "THAI will resume full services as soon as the situation improves. THAI conveys apologies for any inconvenience that may arise." Oakwood Opens Third Property in Jakarta, Indonesia

Oakwood has opened its third property in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Oakwood Apartments PIK Jakarta features 151 fully furnished serviced apartments offering city and ocean views. The property is located in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) roughly 15 minutes’ drive from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Boeing to Suspend Production in Ridley Township, Pennsylvania

Boeing is temporarily suspending production operations at its facilities in Ridley Township, Pennsylvania. The site includes manufacturing and production facilities for military rotorcraft, including the H-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey (pictured and videos below) and MH-139A Grey Wolf. Defense and commercial services work and engineering design activities are also performed at the site. The suspension of operations, which begins at the end of work today (3 April), will last two weeks. A return to work is currently scheduled for 20 April.

During the suspension, the company will conduct additional deep cleaning activities at buildings across the site and establish rigorous criteria for return to work. "Suspending operations at our vital military rotorcraft facilities is a serious step, but a necessary one for the health and safety of our employees and their communities," said Steve Parker, Vertical Lift vice president and general manager, and Philadelphia site senior executive. "We're working closely with government and public health officials in the tri-state region. We're also in contact with our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders affected by this temporary suspension as we assist in the national effort to combat the spread of COVID19." Philadelphia area employees who can work from home will continue to do so. Boeing says that those who cannot work remotely will receive paid leave for the 10 working days – double the normal company policy.

Air Canada to Operate More Repatriation Flights

Air Canada, in collaboration with the Government of Canada, will operate its first special flights from Bogota and Buenos Aires. Additional flights from Algiers and Lima are also planned as follows: Algiers: 4 April 2020. Bogota: 3 April 2020. Buenos Aires: 5 April 2020. Lima: 4 April 2020. Canadians abroad must register with Global Affairs Canada to book their seat. For any emergency help, travelers can also contact sos@international.gc.ca.

Since 21 March, Air Canada has operated 14 special flights in collaboration with the Government of Canada to bring Canadians back home.
