JOMP BPC - 14th September - Shelfie
These shelves are really high up - I can't reach the top one without standing on a chair - which means I rarely look at the books there. Maybe I should finally get round to putting all the books in the house in some kind of order and then these books would end up scattered through whatever system of organisation I settled on.

Making a poll on book organisation, because my friend, who just reorganised her books, asked me to share any book organisation poll I ran across and I thought "why not make one myself". Happy new bookshelf @raisedtokeepquiet!
#books#poll#book organisation#I personally am of the 'by chaos type'#though my chaos goes a bit by genre#but the rest is just personal vibes

Front row seat to Alex Hirsch's InMotion London Talk!! Aaaa!! (The high quality close up photos were taken by the wonderful @stupidlittlespirit! Who was sitting with me and had a far better camera, haha)
You can watch the full thing here, recorded by the brilliant Topaz Animation!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn_O7CMM67A&t=137s
#my sigh of relief when the inevitable billford question was phrased tastefully & answered gracefully. now NEVER EVER bring it up again lads#So annoyed I didn't get to meet him tho!! Wasn't even too far back in the queue but it went verrrry slowly and he couldnt stay long#I don't think the staff were prepared for a comic con type crowd at their industry event lmao. so the queue was not well organised#But I DID get drinks with JAMES BAXTER my little wannabe animator heart is still quaking!! and I only did so because of Topaz Animations!!#He is so cool go follow him on youtube and check out his proof of concept for his show Wild Westly IMMEDIATELY#Also watched James Baxter animate for nearly 3 hours??? Literally the wildest 2 days of my life. Everyone I met was SO COOL#burn out be damned I think I do want to get into the animation industry! I'd almost lost the spark for it but this event man. Well since you ask so nicely 😊📚
I've been finding new ways of organising my books for quite some time. I'm a librarian = I want my books searchable and findable. But I also love asymmetry. (I know most people want all books of a series the same size and together etc. I do not.) To me, asymmetry is good for the soul like forest bathing or watching the night sky. I love my bookshelves and I would die a bit if they were straight and predictable.
To those ends I've tried many systems of organisation! For instance: (Note: This is all about my novels. Non-fiction is by subject.)
Alphabetically by the first sentence of the book - sooo much fun to do, to get to reread the beginning of every book. Kinda falls on the findability though.
By authors' or books' interrelationships - started, but it fell on impossibility of completion and the fact that many books would need to stand in ten different places.
By the number of letters in the words of the title - kinda worked, but where to go with subtitles? The Hobbit - or?! - The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again?
By conceptual trilogies - I grouped them into trilogies (duologies, tetralogies etc) based on some kind of kinship. This was an age and a thousand books ago, but to give you an idea, The Master and Margarita with Good Omens, Watchmen with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, etc. Could slide into organising by sub-sub-genres and by intertextuality. But again, one book often fits into several subgenres.
Geographically, Chronologically ... so many further questions ...
By the amount of books I own by the author: too symmetrical.
42 books each by every system. Because don't panic.
I tried by colour once. The amount of pale blue books leeched all the warmth out of the room so I gave it up before I finished, and it would have been to symmetrical anyway.
The system I have now: Backwards alphabetical by title 🥳 Titles ending in A first, ending in Z (well Ö in Swedish) last. To simplify, Matilda to Wizard of Oz. Pros for asymmetry: not all books by one author together, not all series with titles starting with, e g, Blood, together. Pros for findability: as long as I remember if I included the subtitle.
Most of my experiments are here: http://asymmetric-library.blogspot.com/
I have a question

Everybody has voting power! I have my own preference, but I'm really curious what would you chose! Let me know in the poll and don't forget to share so we reach 40 bundles sales! We are not that far!! If anything is unclear just let me know <3 Also, I imagine the button pin would do great on a grocery bag, I think it would associate for me with the calendar bundle, and therefore remind me to take the grocery list (written on the Klance seasonal to-do lists XD) mmezzy.bigcartel.com
#klance#laith#talking about reminders and all#i always thought of myself as an organised person - not very aethetic kind or organization but i always thought of myself as diligent#but apparently my methods to remember are unusual like leaving a bag in the middle of the room#like forming one habit and then attaching things to that habit (ex closing doors so things i need with me land next to the keys so i see it#i leave hints for my brain that will make it go 'huh weird'#literally if id be scared to forget something id change my phone wallpaper or leave a open book on the counter#but it does not happen THAT often i am constantly reality checking anyway#i just like to be prepared

[Image description: In the first image, Harry Du Bois, looking at Gaston Martin's sandwich, fails the check to ask if he can have it. Rhetoric says, "A man so principled about his sandwich calls for a principled approach. Time to get political." Harry, seeing his options, asks, "These options seem awfully fascist or communist - what if I don't wanna say them?" In the second image, Rhetoric takes Harry by the shoulders and tells him, "Say one of these communist or fascist things, or fuck off." Harry appears shocked. In the background, Volition raises a finger and says, "um". End ID.]
skilltober 3!! please forgive the mistakes (see: the fucked up text in the first image) my hands are sooo shaky lately so I'm blaming that. hyperfocusing on one spot without taking into consideration the rest of the image is also my specialty. i figured out why the lighting was weird in the last one though at least!!!
more rhetorics + my cat who decided to jump up and run away with my eraser in her mouth as soon as I had everything ready to take the photo
#found my pencil btw so i could do a pre-sketch for this one#did NOT save it though. my hands...#disco elysium#parcark art tag#skilltober#skilltober03#also you know how my psych teacher took my book yesterday to look at my encyclopedia and I shit my pants#well. the student teacher in my art class today *recognised* what I was drawing.#I will explode#for organisation ->#harry du bois#rhetoric#the skills#described

Can’t stop thinking about modern!Rilla who starts a skincare brand with Una Meredith and they 100% make it to the top.
(Bonus points for Persis Ford marketing them all the way to the moon!)
#yes I will elaborate on this#listen….rilla was out here organising Red Cross meetings at age 14!!!#14 man!!#that’s impressive!!#and yea the books tell her she’s not clever or ambitious but they were also published in 1920’s sooo#she WOULD#and i always headcanoned Una as someone good with numbers i dont know why#she just seemed practical that way#and Rilla always gave off science kid vibes to me#like the way she raised Jims by consulting Morgan on everything and working very methodically?#If it was 2024 she’d be on r/ScienceBasedParenting I mean she practically ripped Irene’s throat out for kissing Jim’s#Now envision Rilla using her degree in cosmetic chemistry and Una using her finance and business degree#oh yea that’s the magic#Persis definitely gets in on it and is a marketing genius lmao#aogg#Rilla of ingleside#Rilla Blythe#Una Meredith#Persis Ford#lmm#Lucy maud Montgomery

Woah this is so cool, my mini comic Food Magik in the G:Zines vending machine at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre!!
G:Zines is tied for my favourite zine fair, it's a monthly swap sell organised by a group of local legends who are doing so much for small press, zinemakers and emerging artists. I have such a blast every time I attend, and have been missing it so much the past few months while recovering from foot surgery! I'm zine deprived I TELL YA!

I didn’t get the maths autism or the science autism or even the fandom autism. I got the ‘reads up on the legal frameworks for prosecuting torture at 3am then resolves to make a letterboxd list of films containing torture according to the UN definition’ autism
#I’m stabby_vale on letterboxd btw#got persuaded to make an account and it has been everything for my autism ngl#i keep very thorough categorised lists of every film I’ve ever seen and want to watch#same with books#s talks#fr tho like torture is defined so loosely people will just make these lists of horror gore films and be like here torture#like no you don’t understand I’m not interested unless it’s a government or an organisation doing it okay

This "article" pushed The Guardian even further down in my regard. It's clearly written by an illiterate dumbass and the only good thing I can say is: at least they didn't publish it under Culture.

I really need to get more into marxist god-building. As soon as I started reading a review of Lunacharsky’s writings on how Marxism evokes religious emotion and is basically scientific theology it was like discovering what i had believed but didn’t realise it
#also have been pretty compelled by his discussion of the role of religion in socialism#like in terms of capturing the ritual and social emotion that religion evokes for the purposes of uniting the working class#it resonated a lot with the history I’d read of the Haitian revolution and the role religion played in slave organising#like obviously religion plays a massive role in most conflicts but using it as a mobilising force for proletarian movements resolves a lot#of my confusion/uncertainty about religion in a socialist society#anyway I need to read a lot more I’m not very far into it#hoping maybe I can do a bit more reading in the summer but I have comp preparation then. augh#book club
