Loopy (OC) Trivia

It's hard to believe I was in high school when I first got into Bully and made Loopy, and I'm turning 23 in 10 days! Now she's a great big love letter to who I used to be in high school, which to this day has made up the majority of the most tumultuous times in my life, even if it's been longer now since I graduated than the time I spent there.

Anyways, since I'm feeling sentimental, here's a bit of trivia about my gal!

Loopy's surname was decided before her given name. I wanted her to have some sort of tie to canon, but to keep it minimal because I don't like altering established things too much. "Stimson" came from the name of Gord Vendome's chauffeur that he mentions by name exactly once in a cutscene. That driver is Loopy's uncle.

Loopy's first name, Lorein, was the middle name of my great great grandma!

When I first came up with her character, I wanted her to have a bird motif. I couldn't figure out much of a way to make it work, but I kept it as a minor character trait of hers that she really likes watching the birds when she's outside.

Loopy was originally going to have a color palette of green and purple, back when I envisioned her as part of the Nerds.

I wrote out whole fake missions she could give Jimmy like scripting game cutscenes, including what chapter they appear, what causes them to trigger, and their winstates. These are still sitting on my computer somewhere.

When I played Disco Elysium last year, I made an OC for that, and she's literally just Loopy grown up! DE/CCE crossover...?

When I made Loopy, I was kinda obsessed with shipping her with someone because I was a lonely teenager and wanted to project onto my self insert. Now that she's a representation of who I was in high school, and I never ended up dating anyone, her relationship fate is pretty much set in stone. A solo agent!

Loopy makes a point to call every nicknamed character by their real and full first name. This means I had to make a few up for writing her. Some I just guessed based off common shortenings, like Dan is short for Daniel and Thad is short for Thaddeus, but for characters like Fatty, I made up new names.

Sidenote not about Loopy but about me; when I looked up to see if "Bo" was short for anything, I found Bo Jackson's real life namesake has the same birthday as me: November 30th! Neat.

And here's a little bonus about Atticus because compared to Loopy, I've hardly posted anything about him.

I was originally gonna have Atticus be from Virginia but retconned it for one joke.

Not exactly. If I was being forced, I simply wouldn't do it. But...Riddle and Deuce were hounding me about it being necessary for my birthday.

So you wore it for them?

I wore it so they'd stop hounding me about it. Clothes hardly matter to me anyway. I could wear scraps and I'd be fine.

But doesn't it feel nice to be dressed for your birthday?

I've never particularly cared for my birthday. It might as well just be a normal day.

Do you normally not celebrate your birthday?

No. I've never seen much of a point to it. Though I usually don't have people who want to celebrate it with me either. Even when I was younger, my birthday was never a big deal.

I would've thought Crowley would've thrown a big party for you.

When I was really young, he did. Though the parties got smaller as the years went by. Can't say I mind it too much.

Has he said anything to you today?

He not-so-discreetly shoved a card under my room door that had some guitar picks inside with some designs on them. Leona caught him trying to sneak out of Savanaclaw.

Deuce got me some sunglasses for the bright lights, Leona got me some new golden earrings, Silver got me a star projector that even shows constellations, and Riddle managed to transfer a bunch of books, including textbooks, into audio form for me.

It sounds like each of them put a lot of thought into their gifts.

It's good. I much prefer things I'll actually use rather than stuff that will just sit around.

That one's not too difficult. I'd pick Deuce. We're already similar enough, and he's not annoying. We get along pretty well and he's already similar to a younger sibling to me. If not Deuce, I'd pick the little fighter.

Epel. He's the little fighter. Tiny, but he's got bite to him.

What's your favorite food?

Sushi. I generally like all kinds of seafood, but sushi is the best. Especially nigiri, even more so if it's shrimp. Anytime I go to the Mostro Lounge, I get some type of shrimp.

What about your least favorite food?

Avocados. They taste disgusting. My mother used to try and get me to eat them all the time when I was young. I guess hating avocados is one of the things me and my dad have in common.

Can you tell us more about what your parents were like when you were young? Perhaps a different side to the Headmage?

When I was really young me and him used to get along. But I was so young that I hardly have any memories of it. I spent most of my time with my mother or the ghosts of Night Raven College.

You know the ghosts well?

More like they know me well. They've known me basically my entire life. In fact, I spent a lot of time in Ramshackle. It was a nice area to just relax. I had hoped I could relax in it again when I returned, but then I found out about you and the cat...

Bonus Special Ryker Facts About Jaxon!

Jaxon is probably my favorite oc out of them all. I have many ocs in many different universes, but I carry Jaxon with me to almost all of them. There's a Genshin Impact Jaxon, Honkai Star Rail Jaxon, Legend of Zelda Jaxon, DnD Jaxon, and so many more! He originally started as a vague concept of an oc, but developed into a full fledged oc about a year ago! I thought I'd share some little facts about Jaxon that we didn't know, or I haven't fully dived into yet!

Jaxon's original design was much different than he is today. In fact, he was originally made for the DC comic universe. His first design looked a bit different, but still had the core parts of his personality and his delinquency arc. His early design actually had wavy black hair and light blue eyes. In his early designs, he actually had a sister named Sophia who also had black hair, but brown eyes instead. She often tried to set him on the right path and was very stubborn, but was one of the few people he cared about.

Another thing I wanted to mention about Jaxon is his struggles with schoolwork. This is something that's very consistent regardless of what universe he's in, and there's actually a reason why he struggles so much. Jaxon has dyslexia, but teachers in the past just sort of gave up on him or found him too difficult to work with, and he pushed them away. Because of this, he never officially got tested and still struggles with it sometimes.

Jaxon's character is one that I've always felt works best in my favorite dynamic of light and dark, or the good and bad dynamic. While Jaxon isn't all bad, he certainly has a lot of negative traits and a lot of trauma weighing on his mind. While he's capable of functioning on his own, he wouldn't do well with someone who is equally as negative as him. That is why Jaxon leans towards people who are seen as good or more positive. It balances him out well.

He's by far my favorite oc and I will forever be grateful for all of you for supporting my writings about him, and loving him just as much as I do! It always makes me so happy to see you guys enjoying him, talking about him, or even making artwork of him! It really makes me feel so special! And we've made it to a year since Jaxon's official creation! It's odd because I almost feel like he's my son and he's growing up so fast. It's amazing to watch how he's developed in this past year, and I'm very happy with him!

18. What was their worst injury?: That time when he was impaled by a massive Sangheili Honour Guardsman’s energy stave. Losing part of his left leg was bad enough, sure, but the stave damn near killed him.... And his dear Jeanette was less than impressed by his antics— while also grateful that he’d drawn the Elite’s attention onto him, instead.

43. What do they think is their worst quality? What is their actual worst quality?: I don’t know if Hunter has ever considered the possibility of even having a “worst quality”, so to speak. He experiences feelings of inadequacy, and feels insecure, from time to time, but would he say it’s his worst quality? Possibly?

As for his actual worst quality. Hm. I guess his intelligence? Not that he isn’t smart, because of course he is. But Hunter is also dumb as a box of rocks sometimes. As @infinityactual said of Captain Lasky on discord one time — and I find it fits Hunter and a few other characters to a fuckin T — “he’s a subspecies of himbo: not a true himbo, only stupid under really specific circumstances”.

Being dumb isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s. Well, it can get Hunter into trouble.

🤔 what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?:

Has a tendency to rush headlong into danger, especially if it’s to protect someone he cares about ( double bonus points if they have gear that can’t tank as many hits like his can )

Threads words or phrases in Sangheili or even Jiralhanae into his every day speech

Likes to take the hard path down mountain sides / other rough terrain, which has subsequently earned him the nickname “mountain goat”

Rather than fighting with conventional weapons ( i.e.: guns ), chooses to utilize a modified Gravity Hammer as his go-to. That’s not to say he won’t use a gun, or a combat knife, or anything like that; he simply has a preference for and proficiency with Skullcrusher ( if anyone’s curious, the modifications are a black and red energy bayonet, replacing the metal blade that runs along the hammer’s head, the ability to forcibly attract individuals — much like Tartarus’ Fist of Rukt — and deals more damage than the standard hammer )

😥 is your oc prone to getting stressed out, or is it easy for them to keep their cool?: Goooooood fuckin’ question. I don’t really know; I can’t say I’ve put much thought into something like that. I think he’s probably one of the more level-headed of my idjits, but sldkfjhsldjkfs you never know; they can surprise you

👁️(how do people perceive your oc?) tbh .. i dont know? i have had someone think that riptide was gonna be some chill surfer dude and shadow be a stereotypical aloof emo boy LOL which i can totally see that. riptide is like 2 steps away from being a chill surfer dude...idk if that fits him as a hobby tho. in some alternate universe this is how they ended up being ACTUALLY. SHADOW WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT !!!!!!!!!!!! but now shes the total opposite except shes still an emo boy

Do they struggle with guilt or shame?) im copy pasting these now bc im too lazy to write them out LMAO . hmmm. generally deepseaship r in that stage now wehre theyre Getting better. they r in a place where they feel safe and can be themselves and have good people around them they can trust so they dont struggle as much as they used to... shadow definitely out of the two of them i imagine would feel alot of guilt? she has a bad habit of being angry/lashes out easily and overprotective and maybe a bit impulsive and its lead to a few hiccups in their relationship.....shes very emotional so the guilt over those things she does and says get to her alot ..... ive been tryong to figure out how to rewrite their entire backstories recently so i can make those problems they have more obvious but ive been stuck cos its really hard to redo everything when they are So Deepseaship to me 🤷‍♂️

⚡(Does this oc have any unusual or “irrational” fears?) riptide is TERRIFIED OF BUGS. maybe its not unsual but i think its really funny. he tries to avoid killign them as much as possible and he makes shadow cup and paper them. and he hates thunderstorms. which i know. thats really funny bc its me. and he used to be one of my fursonas. for shadow?? im like sure she has at least one but i cannot think of any rn.

SHE LOVES IT!!! and she loves thunderstorms lol so it balances it out between him and riptide. very important to mention that riptide is obsessed with rain but he hates the sound of thunder. i mean its water. from the sky. sorry i started talking about riptide this is about shadow....LOL.....shadow is the type to just stay inside and enjoy the weather like a normal person and then riptide is insane like me and goes out shirtless in the rain

can I tell you guys a secret about my history with my crash f/os... well here it is anyway cause I feel like rambling more about them fjdhfj

back in 2013, maybe even a little earlier, I got this little palm-sized notebook with teacups on it (which I referenced in this post for my crash self insert!) that I called the Tiny Tea Journal.

2013-2015 was a very tough time for me for many reasons. moved schools, family things, all that stuff. but I also happened to be very into crash bandicoot at the time! so in this journal, I wrote dozens of pages of dialogue exchanges between N. Gin, Cortex, and myself...or rather, Twist (my OC at the time, before I made a proper self insert) about stuff like people who annoyed me at school or my friends and family or struggles I had with studying. I also had a word document where I did the same thing, but the tea journal was more portable so there were way more entries in there.

this journal quickly became very important to me, as did the two doctors in question. Actually, it was originally just N. Gin... I shipped him with Twist before even starting this journal. but I came to adore Cortex as well...or I guess my own interpretation of him at the time. when I wrote him in the journal he acted somewhat differently from canon, he still had classic evil tendencies like wanting to vaporize my classmates and his usual brand of humor/theatrics, but he also treated me/Twist kindly - the whole "only exception" thing I'm a sucker for.

N. Gin didn't really have many tweaks to his personality when I wrote him. he was still unhinged as usual and I always imagined him to be polite and affectionate if he liked someone a lot anyway, so it worked out for the journal~

eventually I started flat-out self shipping with both of them, but nowadays I try to write them as close to canon as I can, because a.) that's what I initially fell in love with anyway and b.) I've grown up and realized it's waaay more fun and interesting to use their current canon personalities when making my s/i interact with them.

but...there will always still be the Tiny Tea Journal version of them that lives exclusively in my head...and in that book. (which is sort of why it's been a struggle to flesh out Synes and Cortex's relationship lately... I never had to think too hard about whether he'd love me genuinely or not, because of the way I wrote him all those years ago. he just...did fjdhfj)

bonus fun fact as a thank you for reading to this point: the reason my ship name with N. Gin is Fuzzy Slippers is because when I was writing those entries, I was mostly picturing the CTTR/Titans/Mutant version of him. there's one mission in CTTR where he asks for fuzzy slippers to complete a weapon and for some reason it just kinda...stuck with me, to the point where he would call me/Twist his fuzzy slipper as a term of endearment in the journal. and now it's carried over to Synes fjdhsf

im gonna use the numbering for my main ocs, because. easy sorting.

ocs 1-15 are all PM based. all of them are in Project Moon world.

18-20 are all based in Parahumans, aka Worm/Ward

21 is based in He Who Fights With Monsters

16 and 17 however. Fade and James. They live in a setting of my creation, which i generally refer to as Shattered God, because thats what happened. Post-apocalyptic setting, the apocalypse was that god died and shattered into a theoretically infinite number of pieces. People call them various things. Shards, Fragments, Angels. Those are the main three in-text, I generally use Angels. honestly not sure about the weirdest parts? it was definitely inspired by the webcomic I'm The Grim Reaper, but I think its very distinct at this point. the world was definitely made first, and the characters to fit into it, so yeah i think about it on its own a lot. Fade and James themselves are on the high end of the powerscale, having the angels Infinity and Greed respectively. Angels can go into people, items, places, and probably concepts as well, though im not sure how that'll work. Angels can usually absorb another if its vessel is broken(person killed, item broken, place destroyed) and all have an urge to do so, since they want to form into God again. If not absorbed, the angel will repair its vessel eventually, although tainting it with its aspect each time. They have varying degrees of sentience, Infinity being able to communicate like a human with its vessel(Fade), while Greed only manifests as an instinct for James. Angels with the same name exist, of course, usually embodying different parts of the concept. Various names are used for the vessels of angels. Saints, Nephilim, Mages, Heroes, etc. Basically, whatever someone thinks is a working name. You know how people are.

For the Chapters Ask:

Overworld Chapter 64 - Something Different, Something New

This really makes me think about "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", so I have to ask... will there be a chapter that's a play on the second part of the saying? Or is the title not at all a play on the first part of it and I'm just seeing patterns that aren't there? Bonus question: "A Hero is Born"... but it was when the fake hero was 'born'. I didn't notice a call back when Link (redacted for spoilers), but are you planning on one? I guess I just like the idea of chapter titles relating to each other... even though I don't usually do that myself so I don't know where that comes from...

And you're definitely on to something! I've for sure connected chapter names together, like Overworld Chapter 32 - Threads and Overworld Chapter 43 - Unraveling (both revolving around Zelda's plans), or Overworld Chapter 48 - Seeds Sowed and Overworld Chapter 54 - Uprooted (in connection to Link's family). All of the chapters for the Temple of Inverted Time have something time related about their names too, and arcs generally have a theme matching the element of whoever's temple they were headed to. Not a 100% rule, but it is a guideline!

8. Overworld Chapter 6 - A Hero Is Born

The fun thing about the act and the questions in MoaH is some of the poking at fate and choice in MoaH, and whether there was a point where the quest could have not happened. Was the acceptance of the act the point where fate took over? When Link and Zelda were born? The end of book one teases a possible Ganondorf, what about something he did or when he was born? Kenelm has been introduced more recently as a villain, he's been around as long as Ambrose, maybe some choice he made? Does it go back to the Convergence? To the beginning of the cycle? Where does the domino chain begin?

To the question then about this chapter's title and whether it would have a parallel then begs the question of at what point were the duo intrinsically linked? OW 6 is the point where they're set to work together. Link agrees to the deal, he and Zelda are now inevitably bound together for the course of fate. After all, he was still the Hero during the act, they just didn't know it yet. Quest start - Save Hyrule began when she told him he was going to the temples to reopen the Temple of Time, that put him directly on course to find the Sealed Door and the Master Sword. They just didn't know it yet. Hence, A Hero Was Born.

Though you could say Overworld Chapter 63 - You're My Hero is also a follow up to this chapter title, particularly since it's the first time people find out the truth outside of the core group. All those chapters later, someone finally knows he is. Not just Floan's Hero, this era's Hero.

81. Overworld Chapter 64 - Something Different, Something New

That is an intentional play on that saying for sure. While I do adore a good Zelink ship, I also like giving my OC duos the space to decide if they want to be together, over running straight into fated lovers by default in the plot. Fated partners, yes, they are always bound to find each other, that's the nature of the quest. But fated to love each other? That's a choice. Soul mates are made, like people are. The only way someone can fit the shape of you is by molding around each other to make space for them.

The point of this route over the original saying too is going to be reflected in how MoaH talks about the cycle and the nature of reincarnation, which gets into Book 2 stuff and on. But this is a new life for them both, a new chance to build something together. And this chapter is about them choosing to start seeing each other, to start building that.

While also being something of a nod to the fact that they were so close to intertwining before, when he was still a cadet. If he had stayed, would they have still become the Hero and the Princess? Would it have passed to the next Hyrule child? There are plenty of Links, it's a very common name. And then also, there's never been a canon couple in their late 20s. 🎯 What do they do best? I actually had a hard time answering this one bc they do. A lot of things, they have very high survival skills and are insanely telepathic, but I think the real answer is Getting Into Places they Shouldn't. They weren't raised in civilized society (kind of a Tarzan/ San Princess Mononoke kinda situation but instead of gorillas it was a single insanely telepathic monster) so they are still learning things like "laws" and "trespassing" and "privacy", and they're also very very curious and desperately want to know things, and they're also a scrabbly little fucker. This all results in them exploring where they shouldn't and hopping into people's minds when they weren't invited. They're a menace I love them.

🍀what originally inspired the oc? Excellent question that I don't fully remember but I can point a few fingers and make a few educated guesses. I created them around the same time I got really into Psychonauts, so that's almost certainly why I went for all the telepathy mindscape stuff with them. I also had the phrase "you have your mother's eyes" rattling around in my head which turned into a literal method of the species they were adopted by passing on said insane telepathic powers: by passing on their eyes to their children. So. Echo. Literally has their mother's eyes (and insane psychic abilities) lol. This one also didn't come until later but I remembered that ages ago I used to play Dragonfable and my preferred class was the psychic rogue with the purple color scheme and. Well. It wasn't intentional but it was almost certainly an influence

I finally finished I See You, Sundrop! by @shirajellyfish

Slight spoily warning!

It is 1:14 in the morning as I write this (editing about a day later) and I have my first day of my senior year of high school tomorrow, but I just had to get all of my thoughts out while they were fresh.

I have never, never hyperfixated on a fanfic so hard. I've never read 400k+ words of a single fic in under a week. Somehow I managed to do that and have time to draw fanart (something I'm pretty sure I've only done once before for a fic, actually) and do my irl life shit.

How, you may ask? By continuously staying up into the wee hours of the morning :D (like 4-6am type shit, don't recommend it even if I think it was personally worth it).

I think I was so hyperfixated on the fic that I honestly didn't absorb the emotions like I should have? I felt things, surprise, excitement, a Sense of Impending Doom (/hj), but I don't think I really felt them.

I was probably a little more dissociated while reading than I usually am lol. I was so absorbed that some things barely registered. I am 100% going to have to re-read everything.

At one point I worried the fic wouldn't have a happy ending. Doesn't have the "angst with a happy ending" tag afaik and it got much worse before it got better. Saw a comment on one of the end notes and was reassured thankfully TvT. I'm very happy everyone is ok.

Love how the after ending note basically boiled down to "everyone is fine and Felix finally got some sleep" lol.

This fic was just. So good. Riley is such a dynamic character, so awesome and so cool. I really want to headcanon them as autistic (some of their behaviors just. They just. It's hard to explain, but if you're autistic too I bet you probably felt it, just a lil. They got the vibes /hj) but I know some authors can be kinda iffy about people headcanoning their OCs (which I get).

It was really cool to see an honest to goodness nonbinary character, a full character and not a self insert or y/n (no shade, I love y/n stories too). It was just cool to see a complete OC, and I love that it was all platonic, even if Sundrop did catch a little bit of feelings.

Honestly I relate so much to that, as someone who gains and loses crushes pretty fast. I'm happy it stayed platonic though and Sunny wasn't hurt or stuck pining or something silly. Plus his absolute embarrassment and mortification at his slip up was pretty funny. Might try to draw it, if I have any left over motivation (the bottom of this post sure is interesting hint hint).

Update as I'm editing this about a day later: I can't stop thinking about this fic. It was just so good! I already want to re-read it but I know I should give it at least a little time so I don't burn myself out. This fic was probably the best story I've ever read. Period. Even better than the published books I've read.

Honestly without spoiling any more than I already have, read it. If you like the DCA, read it. If you like cool nonbinary characters and great platonic relationships, read it. If you like a plot that sneaks up on you before hitting you in the feels like a truck, read. It. Do it. It's sososo worth it, I promise you.

"But if I hadn’t convinced Jesse that you were capable of being a decent person, you would’ve— [killed him], and you know what? That doesn’t make any sense.”

“You’re trying to control everything and I don’t like that stupid spell, I can’t talk to you. You think it makes you so good at things but it just makes you a controlling jerk,” Raymond yelled back. “This is why I don’t trust you! Why I didn’t tell you!”

“I want everyone alive. You just want me alive.”

[Raymond] smiled slightly. “When you cast that spell you heighten the level of resources your brain has dedicated to a specific task. It’s heightening of a psychological phenomena. All I had to do was split up the resources.”

I thought that over. “I didn't know Nyps could do that,” I said, and somehow when he explained it it made so much sense. Like it was simple.

“I didn't know I could either. It was a theory. Until just now. But I shouldn’t’ve tried it. I wanted you to unfocus but I shouldn’t’ve forced it.”

“I want the person who let me go. You weren’t focused then. Look. I know that spell is useful. I know we might not’ve pulled this off without it. That’s kind of the point of this, though. I want to get to know you. And if even you don’t know who that is… maybe you should.”

“It’s like going in blind. And because it’s freaking illegal we can’t do it right, y’know? Even if it’d be fine to tell people, no one wants a Nyp going into their mind, they’d much rather take a whisper because it doesn’t give access. But everyone’s different, everyone’s brain is different. I’ve seen these not work on some people, or even make things worse, and I hate it. If I could go in, if we could do research on these spells, I could find a way to actually help instead of giving this thing that works for some people. And it’s worse because like, sometimes I’m selling it to someone, and like, I don’t need much to get in, y’know? I’m giving them a memory-whisper and I’m like, I can sense how your mind works and I know this won’t work for you, but I can’t say anything, and if people would be okay with it maybe I could actually help them. But maybe I’m not helping, because there’s no research on Nyp magic, and honestly, I have no freaking idea if there's side effects to anything, or if I could do more harm. I hate it.”

“There was what?” I urged. Something was there, something he wanted to talk about, I could feel it.

“Some fear?”

“Of?”

He sighed. “You? Like I know you wouldn't hurt me and I trust you. But it—made it a little hard to sleep, I guess.”

“Because you’re always so invested in my existence being secret, right? I’d convinced myself that if you came looking for me it was because you had to control everything again, make sure I was being safe and all.” The corner of his mouth tugged up in a slight smirk. “But you missed me, didn’t you?”

Was that really a reveal? Sure, I hadn’t thought about the implication of calling out his name (and fuck he was right, that had been risky), but… “Of course I missed you.”

“That’s not an ‘of course,’ okay? You’re hiding 90% of the time. I have no idea how you feel. I have no idea if you—no idea why you saved me. I have to trust that you won’t kill other people that matter to me but I don’t even know what guided that decision in the first place.”

“Sorry,” I took a deep breath. 

He nodded. “Thanks.” he didn’t meet my eye for a moment, then asked, “Should I not try to touch you?”

My wincing had been my fault, not his.  “It’s fine.”

“Is it actually?” he asked, concern in his voice.

“I know I was just insisting I go,” Raymond said. “And I’m still going to. But that doesn't mean I’m not scared. And the truth is…you are better at this. Maybe I’ve been stubborn, and maybe you’ve been right this whole time. Maybe if I hadn’t come back to go to Dante, then both you and Jodi would be safe. I don’t have any ideas, any solutions, and I’m terrified, and you’ve gotten me out of this before and I can’t do this myself. I’m not leaving Jodi. And I think you can figure out a solution.”

“Understand now?” He asked, speaking up after a second, and his voice still had the bite, but I sensed some strain. “You’re going to give me access to a lot of people who have reason not to like you. You’re going to need me in their heads. I do that all for you, but my friends are safe, guaranteed. And I won’t kill for you. That’s the deal. You will not use them to get to me ever again.”

“Not cocoa. Chocolate.” Raymond leaned against the arm of the couch, facing me. He gave me a smile.

“What’s the difference?"

“Cocoa is powder and hot water. This,” he took a sip, closing his eyes as he did, an expression of deep satisfaction coming over him, topped with a whipped-cream mustache. “Is hot chocolate.”

“Did you leave a window open, too?” I remembered, vaguely, him opening it earlier.

“No, I—“ he hesitated as he unwrapped his damp scarf and looked around, just as both of us saw that I’d been right. There was a window open, just a crack, but enough to be contributing. He ran over to it and shut it. “Definitely no windows left open,” he smiled sheepishly.

“That feeling? You know how you said you can’t escape yourself?” I nodded again. “That’s why I went into a burning building. I realized what I was doing faster, sure. But you were there your whole life, and it’s all you were taught. And still, you showed me compassion. You risked yourself so I could live when I didn’t want to and I didn’t even think you liked me. I forgave you then.”

I strongly agree with your idea of "Canon-Canon Nyo Nations", where the male and female characters represent regional cultures within the same country instead of making the female nations a "dream universe" gimmick. Expanding on this idea, what do you think about OCs who represent regions of the same nation? I would think it's a logical next step because 2 characters per country still wouldn't be enough to represent all regional cultures.

For the rest I will preface my answer with the fact I saw you're also Swedish on your profile, but I'll likely leave some extra information for any non-Swedes who might also read this, since I mostly use Sweden as an example. Also, fair warning to everyone: Long Post. [Below "Read More"].

For simplicity sake I've also choosen to just call nyo!Sweden Svea, and our canon-canon Sweden for... Well, Sweden.

Now, I personally don't make a lot of OCs unless they're humans or I'm making a human AU. (For an example I made Finland some "AU Parents", because I got REALLY tired of people always making Finland the orphan with no other family). With that said making OCs for regions and the likes is obviously still valid.

I also agree 2 personifications are too few for many countries, but I also understand why Hima wouldn't want to draw 3-100 characters for every country. Identity within a country is complicated too, because it depends a lot on who you're talking with as you describe your own identity.

If we take myself as an example. If I was talking with someone from another country I'd probably just say I'm European and/or Swedish, and perhaps mention I live on the west coast if they ask and/or seem more familiar with Swedish geography. If another Swede or Nordic asked I'd probably mention I live pretty close to Gothenburg - and if they live nearby I might go into more details, because my lil' hometown is small enough that there's no chance even other Swedes has heard of it unless they live somewhat close/have family in the area anyway.

My point is that it'd be difficult to make a representation for all kind of national-/regional-/state- identity within a country.

However, if we once again take Sweden as an example, I think (hws) Sweden would likely represent a lot of the middle/pretty far up in the west coast. Think the old Goths, and/or possibly Dalsland, Värmland, Dalarna.

Dalarna has the bonus of having a strong identity of their own in their region, and all three are placed close to (irl) Norway. It'd make sense how (hws) Norway and Sweden got to know each other early on then, but also how they might have met (hws) Denmark early.

Svea at the other hand is someone I view more as being further north-east, likely the literal ol' Svea, and someone I headcanon to have been among the first Swedish personification(s) to get into contact with the Finnish personifications.

It's weird though, because neither Sweden nor Svea really gives off "Stockholm vibes" (sorry non-Swedes/Nordics, I have no idea how to describe what "Stockholm vibes is) - but then again they are all based on Japanese stereotypes about the Swedes, so I guess it makes sense. x)

Another possibility I can imagine is the Swedish personifications in modern days being divided into something like this:

... with perhaps an additional personification for the far north and south. However, we have to keep in mind a lot of the far north of real life Sweden's lands would still be in the ice age early on and/or simply not be Swedish - and parts of what today is the real life far south Sweden would be with Denmark instead.

The picture above is a quick edit made by me and should by no means be used as a picture of research, so obviously not exact accuracy or anything, but it's a rough estimate of what (irl) Sweden would have looked like very early on, and also roughly what I headcanon (hws) 1p!Sweden and nyo!Sweden to represent/have represented respectively.

In history the Svea people more or less forced a union with the goths, but I headcanon (hws) Svea had absolutely no interest in working with the humans leaders and basically dumped all the responsibility and work on our (hws) Sweden instead. While Sweden was forced to work more closely with royals and leaders, Svea set to truly live like their people. That's not say say (hws) Sweden didn't interact with the "common people" at all, because he's a rebellious shit in his own right, but he was still forced to take on a lot of the responsibility and work with his leaders.

It didn't help that once Christianity was brought up in Scandinavia together with a less favourable view of women, 1p!Sweden no longer had a real choice than to take on the work. I think (hws) Svea moved back in with Sweden around the time Christianity became more common in Sweden (the lands and people), too. Partly because she felt guilty over having just dumped all the work and responsibility onto (hws) Sweden, but also because it was safer to live with someone she viewed and could claim as her brother. Svea would also have started out to (secretly) help Sweden out with work around this time, which only became official closer to modern days.

For the rest of the Swedish personifications I don't have a clear picture of what they'd look like, but the personification of "south-south" Sweden (in old days more viewed as "east Denmark") is likely around the same age as Denmark, Sweden and Svea, while the personification of Norrland is much younger than the rest of the Swedish personifications. I'd say (hws) Norrland likely didn't pop up until the Swedish population grew much bigger in the north and the Sami people were pushed further and further out in their lands by the Swedish population.

(cough). So I know I've basically only covered Sweden so far, but this post is already getting ridiculously long, so I will cheat a bit and refer you to @ifindus for Norway's regions instead. xD

Findus fully uses OCs for the regions to be fair, so I'm not entirely sure what I would make nyo!Norway represent since I really like Findus' OCs. x') . Maybe nyo!Norway could be more specifically the Oslo area? Because Oslo Norwegians are very different from Norwegians in the rest of Norway.

As generalization I'd say most of the Nordics probably have at least 3-5 personifications though, with one of them being the nyo. For an example Denmark might be divided into Jylland, Syddanmark, Sjælland, Hovedstaden - or it'd go a bit more detailed like cutting up Jylland in North & South like most maps.

(The Faroe & Greenland would obviously also have their own personifications, btw).

OCs are a funny thing where you start off with this initial idea that you're pretty down for, but as you develop them a bit more and maybe even sit down to design them, you realize that they're giving off a different vibe or you come up with a different idea that seems more suitable for character. Bonus points if this is an old OC that you had when you were younger and they end up changing a lot over the years as you grow older and become more mature as both a person and a creator.

This is kinda what happened with my OC, Hiro, as she used to be this creepy kid that came back from the dead after a few decades and was okay with murder as a form of justice. But nowadays she's a kid that comes off as creepy when in reality she's just a depressed kid that's desperately in need of help and support in a time where everything had changed since she's been dead for a few decades and is struggling to adjust to the modern setting after reviving herself. And she hates murder in general now. Her concept was still technically the same, it's just the surrounding details about her that changed a lot.

(Interesting to know that Hitaru was going to be a lot more spoiled and like her parents since she's never been abused like the rest of her siblings. It would certainly hammer home the idea of continuing the cycle one way or another, but I like who Hitaru is now. She's so sweet and I wanted to destroy Mrs. Nijiue SO BADLY the more I learned about her and her husband.)

THAT'S LIKE,, THE FUNNIEST INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING the oc does a 180 and becomes the complete opposite of the idea you crested them for in the first place, absolutely insane.

Yeah if i had kept her as an asshole it would show how sometimes the cycle just can't be broken but i think she's much more interesting the way she is not because it's surprising? In a way? Like, this is the oldest of the Nijiue siblings and the one born with a natural talent for arts so you'd expect that she would be treated the best by the parents and take after them due to that but Hitaru has it just as badly as her siblings and took it upon herself to not be like the parents and help them in the only ways she could while being in such a terrible situation. It's a nice break of expectations i think

Akemi also charged a lot from my original idea for the character, she was a lot meaner when i first created her for voidswap and genuinely looked up to the parents and wanted to impress them for the attention he never received from them, but then Mod Bubbles picked the siblings up for Asoot and it led to her becoming a much nicer and nuanced character which is really cool because i think that's the first time an oc of mine changed because of my friend's ideas rather than something stemming solely from me so that's fun

I guess we could include Beni in this list too, but also not really? Because Beni herself really hasn't had major changes to her character ever since creation, she's remained largely the same, i just added more and more stuff to her

The thing is that before she came into my mind i had this different idea for a character which was this girl who woked at the foundation's police division alongside Ryutaro and Keisuke and she was this scaredy cat type character that was always stressed and hated her job, but I wasn't super into the idea and the design i had in mind just looked a lot like Maki + i wanted someone that could have some form of connection to the Dra so cue to me remembering Kanata had a younger siblings and coming up with Beni after i checked the list just to be sure

to be clear, the gameplay is mostly fun. that's what's kept me going this far. but... I'm not sure anymore if it can keep carrying me. because this is, honest to god, one of the biggest stinkers of a story I've ever seen in a video game. and I DO NOT say that lightly!!! I have seen some SHIT, okay??? time travel and alternate dimension shenanigans that left me unsure of what the fuck the situation was after the ending, a reveal that the universe was one big MMO... those have stuck in my mind for well over a decade for being just that fucking bad.

and this story isn't just as stupid, no. it's as stupid as those, AND it's INCREDIBLY poorly told. like I cannot stress that enough!!! as of this writing, I have found every single glyph on the world map + the bonus tear that you get for seeing all those + the little bonus scene from getting the Master Sword. they're all numbered in more or less chronological order in the menu, 1-18.

why in god's name am I still missing 11, 14, and 16????????

and also the writing for Zelda herself is just atrocious and embarrassing, like I'm genuinely cringing here. in the flashbacks she does little aside from stand around and talk, her love for history/science only comes up in the intro, and functions as long-winded exposition, and she unfortunately was handed the Idiot Ball on top of it (not figuring out that Ganondorf was the the Basement Mummy till after he transformed? girl... Urbosa even SAID that CALAMITY GANON was said to have been born as a Gerudo man... why are Nintendo's writers determined to make her look stupid like this???). and in the present time, she's apparently good at everything and everyone loves her (even the unhinged flower lady), and she gets a super special gold horse, and it's just... she's barely a character. she's more like the overpowered OC everyone loves that kids just starting to write come up with.

which is fine at that stage! necessary, even! we all start somewhere, and I am NOT shaming anyone for doing that when they're just starting out. goodness knows I produced my share of embarrassing crap as a baby writer.

but this is a main installment of a major franchise by one of the biggest video game companies, made by paid adult professionals. that is. embarrassing.

and... as far as I've seen/heard from others who have seen more cutscenes than I have (again, this is bullshit, why are these apparently key scenes being withheld from me?), there's never an explanation for the Calamity/Calamity Ganon and he doesn't seem to be the same entity as Ganondorf. Zelda also never once considers trying to prevent the Calamity, either, and save all those lives, because Reasons, I guess. and the time travel magically doesn't affect anything but the current crisis???? calling BS on this too. plus, it doesn't help that there's so little flow/build-up/connective tissue between the cutscenes. next to nothing, in fact. it feels like I watched the isolated anime cutscenes of an older RPG whose story was told mainly through scenes in the game engine, and tried to understand the plot from there.

except that for this game, that's all I get.

also they managed to make the Silent Princess metaphor even more ham-fisted than in BOTW, which is quite the achievement. good lord. the way my eyes rolled seeing that, the incredulous laughter I burst into... sheesh.

at this point I just. don't know if I should try and power through and rush to the ending, take a break, or just drop it entirely. either way, it would never get a replay the way BOTW did. it's just. bleh.

and don't even get me started on how they fucked up the Poes and Gibdos, way to even disappoint my desire for the return of favorite creepy enemies, I didn't even get my ReDeads. I DIDN'T EVEN GET MY REDEADS

in closing, everyone who complained about the story/time travel in AOC owes me the cost of TotK. that game may have been silly, but at least it respected the Champions and I got to see more characters interacting and everything playing out as it happened and I didn't feel so distant/isolated from it all. ugh. I need to replay THAT game!
