What's your head cannons for the chain and their Zelda's?

They Might’ve changed a bit since the last time I said my headcanons for the chain, but here we go:

Time: Bisexual and most people know this about him. He has bi wife energy because he IS the bi wife and he HAS a bi wife

Lullaby: Genderfluid, uses all pronouns but prefers some over others depending on the day, and calls herself ‘gay’ as an umbrella term because she hasn’t figured out an exact sexuality

(bonus) Malon: Bisexual

Warriors: Biromantic and on the asexual spectrum. He’s in the demisexual/gray asexual area. He is not ready for, nor does he currently want, a relationship. He has a lot of trauma to work through still, but he’s not against it and would love to have one one day. I personally don’t think he’s aroace, but I do love the headcanon

Artemis/Athena: Usually to me she’s a lesbian (sorry HW Zelink shippers, love y’all tho), but occasionally she’s bisexual but with a preference for women. It seriously depends on the fic/au I write her in for me, but she’s definitely fuckin gay 😭

Twilight: Bi, prefers women, specifically big strong women who could throw him. He’s also on the ace spectrum

Dusk: Lesbian. I don’t think she likes men at all

(bonus) Midna: Very bisexual

Sky: Bisexual, prefers men. He thought he was straight up gay until he realized he had a crush on Sun and he did have a crisis about that

Sun: Pansexual, she just has those vibes and I love her for it

AND WE HAVE A BINGO! so i haven't finished totk but bro. bro. holding your arch nemesis by the tits for 10.000 years. yeah something happened there. i adore a good divorce ship, and this is the one where the divorcees just keep coming back to each other because the homoeroticism is too on the nose. i see it. i see it. i see it.

SONIA/GANONDORF

again, haven't finished totk. i have only seen sonia in like two cutscenes thusfar. but i love it when women get to be pissed off at huge burly men and in doing so get to be recognized as a viable threat. so i will be rotating this one in my mind on the backburner until i'm more informed on their canon dynamic and each characters' backstories in the game

ZELDA/GANONDORF

this is one of those ships where i don't really care for it but some people do interesting stuff with it and i see what they're going for. the fun with zelda and ganondorf is that he doesn't necessarily want her, but wants everything that she has. this old man is so fucking jealous of someone half his age at minimum. so honestly the age difference is a bit too big and dynamic is a bit too antagonistic for me to actively like this ship. i guess i can see it playing out as a bodice-ripper type story, but that goes against nando's character to me, and i've never quite been fond of them in the first place. something like an arranged-marriage-turned-something-more or a hyrule warriors esque wartime romantic tension could work. they *are* entangled eternally in a cycle of being tied by soul, but fated to be enemies each time. at some point something could spark i guess. but at the end of the day its a solid "eh" from me

LINK/GANONDORF

the same kind of arguments as zelda/ganondorf, but instead of royal diplomacy, link has a sword. again there's gotta be something about being the one prpphesized to slay the same guy cycle after cycle. maybe in one of the cycles, he won't want to...? how scandalous. but generally, i don't care too much for this ship

KOHGA/GANONDORF

i love divorce and i love horny old men thirsting over big buff dudes. i have a feeling kohga has a thing for large and bulky men, for no reason at all, that's not at all present in the game. so, in botw i see ganon's worship as a purely "riding-on-the-coattails-of" thing where kohga doesn't actually care much about ganon, he just wants a reason to make his personality cult and have an ez way to overthrow the monarchy. when that fails, he ditches the joint. but then ganondorf awakens into this absolute handsome beefcake and the illustrious master kohga would probably be like. "okay. hold on. Pause." and the rest is history. i see it. i havs the vision.

GHIRADEMI/GANGHIRA

this has already been answered in the ghirademi bingo. but if you go for ganghira, there's the added tension of "you remind me of the man i devoted myself to, and his presence lingers within you", which would definitely have some serious emotional weight to ghirahim. but that i don't see reciprocated, once again, given that ganondorf always pursues power first. and this time there's not even the shared bond that ghirademi has, where ghirahim served as his sword for centuries! they basically just met, and all ganon knows is this sword freak is devoted to him! oh ghirahim, stop going after men who terrify you!!

There’s a post-game mission in the new Age of Calamity where all the female characters have a friendly fight to see which one is the strongest and you’re allowed to play as Daruk or Hestu since neither Gorons nor Koroks have genders, and I think that’s a nice touch.

Campfire

This is a snippet of an AU I’ve been working on for a pretty long time now, almost a year at this point I think. It’s your typical “all the Links meet” AU, and this is just a small scene during it. (only around 500 words) But I finally got to the point where I’m comfortable posting some bits of it while I work on the main story, so here it is. (Under the cut)

There’s also a crash-course on nicknames so you know who is who. Subject to change because I’m a fickle person. (Also yes I know some of the names are the same as other people’s, but I didn’t intentionally copy anyone.)

Gloam always enjoyed being on watch.

He didn’t mind the dark—his night vision was excellent after all—and watching out for his fellow heroes as they slept always put something in him at ease. It was either the wolf or big brother in him, but keeping his teammates, his pack, his family safe... it always felt right.

Getting to see them all cuddle on cold nights like tonight was just a bonus.

His favorite part of the watch was always when he would take a minute or two and walk (or pad) around the perimeter, and while making sure nothing monstrous was nearby, he’d check on each of the heroes and see how they were sleeping.

He’d occasionally wake someone from a nightmare, but that was a relatively rare occurrence. He usually just pulled a blanket or two tighter around someone, and gently rearranged some limbs that would have been stiff the following morning.

That was definitely the big brother in him.

Most of them tolerated his big-brothering, a few of them loved it even, but it drove some of the more testy Links crazy. But he couldn’t help it! Almost all of them were kids, barely old enough to be holding a sword, not to mention be killing anything with it. The least he could do was coddle them a bit and make sure they had a good night’s sleep.

Gloam stood up with a small pop as he stretched, then stoked the fire a bit before he began his rounds.

Tonight the two closest to the fire were Mini and Light, the small heroes pressed tightly against each other. Warm shadows were draped along their shared blanket, and Gloam smiled at the third hero he knew was there as well.

Windy lay on the other side of the fire, almost as close as Mini and Light, but wrapped up in considerably more blankets then the two. Surprisingly enough, Sprite of all people was pressed against his side, curled tightly into a ball. Gloam raised an eyebrow at the unusual sight. Sprite almost always slept alone, near the very edge of camp. Maybe the kid was beginning to lighten up a bit?

...That or he was just chilly. Either way, it was good to see him somewhere other then the outskirts of camp. Gloam continued on, but not before adjusting Windy’s many blankets more tightly around him. (And carefully tucking in Sprite’s).

Farther away but still close enough to garner warmth from the flames were Cloud and Slate, the two a pile of seemingly random limbs tangled up in the sailcloth. Faint snoring emanated from under it, and Gloam tried not to laugh as someone’s leg twitched at the noise. He attempted to untangle them a bit, but ultimately gave up and let them be. They were knotted up tighter then a burr in goat hair, and Gloam couldn’t even figure out who’s limbs were who’s.

Moving on, he came to where Hibiscus lay flat on his back, the creases in his face smoothed for once as he slept. Hue was pressed up against his side, with Brownie somehow squished in between them both. They looked so calm all smooshed together, and Gloam felt the urge to turn into a wolf and join them.

He shook it off with a sigh. Somebody had to keep watch.

A small noise came from the pile, and Brownie suddenly twitched a bit in his sleep, his face pinched. Gloam frowned and leaned over to run a gentle hand through his hair, and he stilled, sighing as whatever dream was plaguing him faded away.

Gloam sighed and walked back over to the log he’d started at, settling back in to finish his watch with a yawn.

It wouldn’t be long now til morning, but until then, he’d make sure they all slept in peace.

In HW there are a lot of call backs to twilight princess: Zelda has the dominion rod, Link's spinner weapon, his ball and chain, freaking twilight's epona. So here's my question today my dear LU friends: WHERE'S ALL THE FANFICS OF TWILIGHT BEING WARRIORS PREDECESSOR?! I've read one and I feel like this needs more content. Anyone else know fanfictions of this?

Bonus points if twilight is warriors' dad and he's half twili. Cause mix midna's red glowing hair and beauty with twilight's brunette and I think you could get magical blonde

Linked Universe Zeldas:

My takes on LU style- Zelda’s. Note: I don’t really follow Linked Universe, and I don’t like a lot of their takes on the Links, so uh, don’t assume these Zelda’s dealt with the LU versions of the Links.

SS: goes by Hylia, she jokingly suggests it when they’re picking nicknames, and everyone else just pauses for a second then realises who exactly she is and freaks the fuck out, so it kinda sticks as a combination of an in-joke and just... well, she’s Hylia reborn, can’t argue with that! The others are all low-key taken aback by how not-leadery she is, she tends to be the most hands-off when it comes to planning because well- she just guards the triforce, Link is the one who earned all 3 pieces and used it’s full power. Meanwhile her descendants picked up Wisdom sometime in the intervening centuries, so she’s pretty happy to leave the plans to them and stick to being a mediator. Third most likely Zelda to pick a fight she can’t win, most likely to win despite that.

Minish Cap: goes by Shortie, bc these beanpoles tried that with Tetra and she threatened to stab them, but Minish just found it hilarious so it stuck. Surprisingly quick to pick up how to fight, occasionally gets the other Zelda’s into trouble by running off, but they usually agree with her that whatever caught her eye was actually pretty worth it, because deep down they’re all massive nerds, no matter how functional they appear. Also tends to randomly grab gifts for the other Zeldas.

Four Swords: just goes by Four, jokes about how much her Hero(es) would be annoyed by that. Usually the first to notice encroaching danger, and always the first to investigate it. At first the more combat-experienced Zelda’s were Concerned(tm) that she is the one sticking herself into unknown dangers, until she pointed out that A) she is considerably less likely to get herself caught unless Sheik wants to go, bc she knows she has less leeway to get caught than they are and B) they won’t be down a fighter for the rescue if she’s the one who gets caught, which they reluctantly concede.

OoT: goes by Regrets, which like, the other Zelda’s just hear her bitterly pick as soon as the topic comes up and immediately decide they aren’t touching that emotional baggage. It’s an mix of Child and Adult timeline Zelda, which kinda fucks her up when she thinks about it- especially seeing as she remebers both Ganondorf breaking free and killing one of the Seven Sages in the child timeline, and what became of the Hero of Time... who she remembers clinging to the thought he got to have the childhood he rightfully should’ve in the Adult Timeline, as the waves climbed up over Hyrule to seal the awakened and unchallenged Ganondorf. So yeah, she tries not to. She also remembers the start of the Defeat Timeline, where she was too late to save the Hero and was forced to lead the exhausted and scattered remains of her people to war to kill the Demon King.

Wind Waker: literally just Tetra, she also is the first to look at the less murder-happy Zeldas and give them a knife. She’s currently working on getting them all up to basic pirate crew levels of fighting without magic, just in case, and she’s constantly pestering the fight-y Zelda’s to a spar. Regrets goes along because she’s had three slightly different Zelda’s merged in her head so her skills are a little rusty, Hylia likes to do it just because people keep forgetting she learned to fight at the same school Link did, and their responses when she reminds them are funny to her. Tetra is picked up from after establishing New Hyrule, and she looks up to Hylia more than she’s willing to admit, often going to her for advice on the whole ‘founding a nation in peaceful cohabitation with the locals’ thing. Second most likely to start a fight she can’t win.

Spirit Tracks: goes by Ghost, refuses to explain the joke to any of the others and thinks she’s hilarious for it. She is, but she doesn’t need the ego stoke. They find out about the ghost thing when she accidently astral projects in her sleep at one point and wakes up to them freaking out over her corpse, which is implied to happen often. Tetra notices that she’s really really weird to train as a fighter, because she already fights pretty well but she also fights like she’s a giant fuck-off suit of armour with a sword as big as she is. She finds it amazing to get to meet Tetra, and is constantly asking her if various stories she heard as a child are actually true or if her mother just made them up or exaggerated. They were not, and Ghost thinks Tetra is the coolest person on the planet for it.

Twilight Princess: goes by Twilight, out of tribute to Midna’s nickname for her. Absolutely misses Midna, respects Regrets more than Regrets thinks she should, but she still angsts a lot about how she just surrendered to the unkillable army its implied she’s the only one who could even see properly who could turn them all into ghos- ahem. I may or may not have opinions about people thinking it’s the wrong decision from out of universe. But yeah, she absolutely angsts about it, and really looks up to Tetra and Regrets bc at least they acted, she just sat in her tower and waited for the hero she knew would be coming. Saying that though, she indulged Tetra’s pestering to fite exactly once (1), and promptly kicked her ass and went back to her book. Because really, what else was she going to do with all that free time while Link was fishing to win a Heart Container and she couldn’t leave her room? Ganondorf had to get the idea to have her use a sword somewhere.

FSA: Even among Zelda's, she stands out for how friendly she is- more than once she brought a ‘new friend’ back to camp who’d been trying to kill them seconds earlier. This got her the nickname Torch, because she shines light into even the darkest of creatures- although, Hylia would like it if she never interacted with any of the mini-Imprisoned from HW ever again please and thank you, that was a step too far for exotic pets.

(I’ll do a followup post for the Defeat Timeline, it has a lot of the older games I haven’t played and need to familiarise myself with the characters in, and it’s already getting late)

Hyrule Warriors: goes by Sheik, was unironically ready to fight her ancestor for the name, but Regrets doesn’t really care. Speaking of regrets, upon learning that Regrets did the exact same disguise in the Adult timeline, Sheik immediately wants to go stab Cia (and maybe Lana too) for letting her think she was getting away with the disguise when Cia had literally seen the exact same trick just one timeline over. (post post-game definitive edition, so Cia has her redemption arc) She also was never meant to be the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, and views it as a burden- without Cia’s interference, the Triforce of Wisdom and it’s visions would’ve been passively sitting in the royal vaults instead of etched into her hand, but fate got confused when the Triforce had been split, but the one who should inherit Wisdom was much better suited to Courage. This leads to a bit of a disconnect sometimes, where fate has changed her into a suitable host for the Triforce of Wisdom, but she just kinda isn’t one. She’s also a MASSIVE nerd (I saw those TP references in Linkle’s Twilight stage Nintendo! She literally started dropping random history quotes after almost dying, the nerd) so she’s constantly fangirling over all her famous ancestors, because if anyone had managed to hear legends from all 3 timelines, it would be HW Zelda. The most likely to pick a fight she can’t win, she literally only pretends to be functional and have impulse control when they’re in her Hyrule and her people can see her.

BOTW:

Both BoTW Zeldas avoid each other like the plague because yeah, that’s a physical manifestation of my failures. They’re not consolidated like OoT was for bonus angst- because just merging them would show her there’s a happier timeline where all of her friends survived and Hyrule didn’t fall and crumble to ruins while she and Link took a 100 year nap.

AoC: goes by Terrako, because why the hell not. Has Terrako with her, which gets confusing, but he’s an adorable Eggy Boi, and basically team mascot. Is using her Master Cycle+Sheikah Slate movesets, bc she tried to use her Goddess bow moveset and reality just kinda glitched bc there were two Zelda’s using the exact same power, and they both agreed to never try that again. 

BoTW: goes by Architect, because that’s what she spends half her time doing these days. Regularly nerds out with Sheik. Low-key dying inside from self-worth issues rearing up again now that she’s hanging out with all these legendary queens, but tries not to let it show and keep with a positive attitude, too mixed results.

Bonus prompt for ANY story:

Make it LGBT+. Maybe have a non-binary character? An asexual or demi one? Someone whose sexual and romantic attraction aren't aligned? It doesn't need to be the main character(s) or have the plot revolve around their attraction/gender itself - peoples lives don’t revolve around being queer after all. Just include some non-staight and/or non-cis characters that aren't tokens.

*Regarding the Harry Potter prompts... I, as many others, are pissed off at rowling's due her treatment of the Trans Community. I might be cis myself but she have hurt a lot of people. There are a few (as in very few) HP-fanfics I still read but those are mostly crossovers because I enjoy seeing how people handle the mash-up, and/or because they are tackling problematic issues better than many officially published works do.

top five Legend of Zelda characters!

omg i never expected to get any of these thank you ;;;;; and zelda too! ;;;; alho i have to say i’m kinda boring with these lol because i name so many main characters.

1. Link - he is the sweetest cutest adventure boy I love him. Especially the botw-Link, he is such a precious thing ;; Him being all cute getting compliments and being an idiot kicking treasure chests barefoot. But a BIG chunk of my heart also belongs to the oot-Link, the poor boy deserves so much betterrrrr. Also the ww-Link is super cute and expressive he deserves more recognition. 

2. Zelda/Sheik - I’ve loved her ever since I first played oot, lol, so over twenty years now. People always say how she’s so useless and doesn’t do shit but she’s SO active and badass, and I love her to bits.

3. Nabooru / Urbosa - this is kinda cheating? but lol. Nabooru is another one of my childhood loves, my mind was blown when I first got into gerudo fortress in oot, and I still love that part of the game to bits. And I think my love for Nabooru and the gerudo sort of did play a role in how fast I fell in love with Urbosa too? Although she’s plenty lovable on her own, too. I’d do anything for her ;;;;

4. Impa - (have bonus link and sheik too lol) I-- I did like Impa in oot already, but Hyrule Warriors was what made me really REALLY love her. I know that hw isn’t really a ~real~ zelda game but listen, i love it, i do. And especially Impa in it.

5. Ganondorf - Okay so I did already cry about how much I love the gerudo and this dork is one of them too so. Idk. Altho he’s kind of a traditional bad guy, I find him endlessly fascinating. And cool. And idk. Awesome.

I did wanna include Saria to the list, too. And Twinrova, and Darunia, and Malon and Talon, and idk. Those only from oot. And from botw there’s like a million characters, Daruk and Mipha and Sidon and Teba and Kass and EVERYONE IN KAKARIKO VILLAGE and all the gerudos and yeaaah. OH AND THE GRANNY IN WIND WAKER???? MY HEART!!
