my friend mohamed’s cat, amy, is older than all three of his children! he carried her with him when he and his family were forced to evacuate their home in north gaza due to the brutal colonizing forces and their us-funded death squads ravaging palestine for its land.
Tumblr media
here is amy now - she’s been skin and bones since the genocide has prevented mohamed from accessing adequate care for her illness. still, she makes his children smile and he hopes to get treatment for her when they are able to evacuate into egypt. just the same as mohamed plans on finding care for his wife, who is suffering from advanced uterine cancer, mohamed cares a great deal about this little cat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here’s another picture of amy and of the two birds that mohamed’s family escaped north gaza with. how incredible is it that so many palestinians refuse to abandon their beloved animals, even as the occupation indiscriminately brutalizes and destroys all life?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
something beautiful happened! this tiny kitten has joined mohamed’s family in the tent! abdul rahman, sarah, and lynn all love this kitten and hope that they are able to bring it across the border when the rafah crossing opens back up.
despite serious illness, mohamed’s daughter sarah talks constantly about how much she loves these cats and wants to play with them again. mohamed tells me that she loves cats more than she loves her own parents sometimes. i understand her. can you help keep her safe and ensure that she can bring these animals with her to egypt?
donations increased temporarily after the election results were called, then slowed down again as americans seem to retreat back into themselves. please let these people hold your attention this time.
mohamed is #192 on this verification sheet.
if you would like an alternative method for donating, please use this cashapp QR code to send money to mohamed’s fundraising coordinator. we are in constant contact and mohamed confirms to me that 100% of these funds are sent directly to him without delay.

Get nutrient paneer for a healthy life
Tumblr media
Good morning, friends. Have a nice day. Today I am going to explain hygienic paneer for everyone's health. Paneer is an important food for health having a lot of nutrients included in the fast world. Paneer is a substance obtained from milk used in cooking. You can buy Hygienic Paneer in Madurai from Subiksha Foods.
Paneer is a popular dairy product natively from South Asia and India. Paneer is prepared by boiling the milk and adding some lemon juice as a curdling agent until the milk separates. Use a muslin cloth to drain the water for collecting the paneer. After some time, you got a soft paneer. Store that paneer in the refrigerator by cutting them into cubes. Good quality paneer is spongy and very smooth with a sweet, acidic flavour.
The properties of paneer containing micronutrients play major biological activities essential for our health. The important properties are that it may be an antioxidant, boost immunity, aid digestion, reduce cancer risk, strengthen bones, lower body weight, is useful for kidney health, has stress-relieving properties, and is used for reducing blood pressure.
I conclude that paneer is rich in calcium giving needed nutrients to your bones, making them stronger. It has minerals that lower the chances of getting stones in the urinary system. It has antioxidant properties, helping to boost immunity in the body. It reduces blood pressure by having a lot of proteins and minerals. Paneer for children prevents tooth decay because of calcium. It helps to become hair strong and wrinkle-free with bright skin.
As I told you earlier, buy Hygienic Paneer in Madurai from Subiksha Foods. They prepared homemade paneer in a clean and hygienic environment with RO-purified water with natural milk in the traditional method. They serve the hygienic panner to you only for getting better health. So, friends get hygienic paneer from Subiksha Foods to improve health.

So I have a character that heals faster than normal. Nothing like Wolverine, where he basically gets stabbed and although it hurts, he keeps rolling because he'll heal in 5 seconds. Or even Deadpool who can regrow limbs. My character would heal way slowlier. Where maybe a wound that would take someone a week to recover from would take them a day.
But my problem is that, determining the speed of the healing process in comparison to the wounds. Someone like Wolverine and Deadpool have their healing abilities cranked up to a 10, which makes it easier to write imo. When mine is dialed up to a 4 or 5, how do I determine the healing speed and keep it consistent with each wound, even if they're all different from each other? Especially with deadly wounds. I hope that makes sense.
It's not that Wolverine and Deadpool's regenerative abilities are, “cranked up to 10,” those operate strictly under, “the power of plot compels thee!” There's nothing inherently wrong with that approach, but it can cause problems down the line. (At this point, it's functionally impossible to kill Wolverine because he's been shown to be able to regenerate from any surviving tissue. Which does make it a little harder to hold him up as being in significant peril.)
So, really, the question becomes, “how fast do you want your character to heal?” “What can they recover from?” And, “how realistic do you want to be?”
In a lot of cases, you can look up projected medical recovery times from injuries. This is usually calculated around a healthy adult (18-35), and will increase as you get older. Or as other health factors slow your ability to heal.
It's pretty easy to take wound recovery estimates and just divide them by a fixed value. So, for example, recovery from a minor gunshot wound is estimated at a few weeks, so if your character heals 7 times faster than a normal human, then they'd be back up and going in a few days. If you want, you can pretty much stop there.
This practice of looking up how long it takes to recover from a given injury will also apply to a lot of those mortal wounds. It doesn't matter how horrific the injury is, someone has probably lived through it.
The question of what they can recover from is a little more involved.
On one end, you have the normal limitations of a character who can only recover from injuries they'd be able to naturally heal from. While in other cases (like broken bones or severed tendons) they'd still need significant medical attention, even if the resulting recovery times would be dramatically reduced. On the other end, you might have a situation where these kinds of injuries can self correct with minimal assistance from your character (and no, formal, medical assistance.)
Then there's the question of being able to regenerate lost limbs. That is biologically possible, and in fact young children can regrow lost digits, though the ability to do so genetically shuts off as we age.
At the same time, humans cannot heal off nerve or spinal damage. Again, this is biologically possible, but the ability is genetically shut down. (In this case, it's theorized because scarring on the nerves could result in horrific issues down the line.)
Ironically, one of Wolverine's more plausible powers is his biological immortality. If his healing factor regenerates his telomeres (which, again, is quite possible. In the real world, some cancer cells exhibit this behavior already), then that would mean that he is not subject to the Hayflick limit. The Hayflick limit is the number of times an individual cell in your body can undergo mitosis, and once it's expended, when the cell dies, it cannot be replaced. In a very real sense, the Hayflick limit, and telomere shortening are what causes biological aging. Regenerating the telomeres would mean that a cell could, potentially, undergo mitosis an indefinite number of times. So, if a character's regenerative abilities do prevent telomere shortening, it's likely that they would be biologically immortal.
If your character's regenerative abilities can restore brain damage fast enough, it might also be impossible for your character to die from bloodloss. So, this probably needs a little more explanation. Bleeding to death is, really, just suffocation with extra steps. Blood is critical for getting oxygen to the brain, and when your cardiovascular system can't do so (for example, because someone's punched too many holes in it) then your brain asphyxiates and dies. With a fast enough healing factor, your character would literally immune to death from bloodloss. (And, you'd probably need to tap them in the head to kill them.)
How fast does that regeneration need to be? I'm honestly not sure. Brain death tends to occur within a few minutes of lack of oxygen to the brain.
This also creates a related potential outcome, depending on whether or not their regenerative abilities shut down when they died. If their abilities are dependent on them being alive, so killing them is enough, then that's normal. However, if their healing persists after brain death (which can happen, as some autonomic functions can continue after death, at least, for a little while), killing them could easily see them regaining consciousness some time after the lethal injury was inflicted, with most of the damage having been regenerated.
One final consideration (and one that doesn't happen that often with superheroes) is the consideration of how you actually fuel all of this. Regenerating an arm is going to require a lot of energy, and your character's going to need to get that from somewhere. Whether they're literally pulling in power from some fixed source (as with the early Spawn comics), or if they just have an implausibly aggressive appetite for food. They will need to get the energy from somewhere. Again, there isn't really a correct answer here, just an answer that fits the story you want to tell. (A fixed power source, like Spawn's, does give you a lot of room to have healing at the speed of plot while still maintaining tension. Or, at least it did, until the countdown was removed.) Of course, if they do run out of energy to fuel their healing ability, that probably means it will fall off, though it could potentially kill them in the process.
One legitimate concern over running out of juice would be scurvy like symptoms, which causes previously healed wounds to reopen. It's pretty horrifying, but might be a way to inject some serious tension into the story, if you've set up the rules to support it.
-Starke

Today I learned a fact that kinda blew my mind, and I'm almost astonished I didn't know this before as someone whose chief interests include zoo animals, the U.S. Presidency, true crime, and D.C. history. What an opener, right? How could those topics possibly combine?
Well, buckle up and get ready to hear how negligent National Zoo leadership potentially could have killed a US President or started a local epidemic. Spoiler alert: They didn't. But only because luck was in their favor.
First, the part that I DID already know. In 2004, Lucy Spelman stepped down as the director of the National Zoo after a spate of controversial zoo incidents, including a string of unfortunate (and often preventable) animal deaths, misleading and missing zoo records, and other signs of negligence. The AZA even "tabled" renewing the National Zoo's accreditation for a year until they made some significant improvements. Spelman was also a vet and some of the cases she was accused of bungling happened at her own hands, not just under her supervision. It was a major disgrace for a zoo that was meant to represent the nation's capital.
I was in elementary school during these fraught years and I remember devouring articles about this in the newspaper, riveted with shock and dismay. Some of the deaths were just bad luck, but others were obviously negligent. The most infamous case was two red pandas killed by rat poison shallowly buried in their enclosures as a slapdash solution to the zoo's pest problem. A young zebra died of starvation and hypothermia after Spelman ordered the zebras' feed be cut in half, an orangutan was euthanized due to a recurrence of cancer that didn't exist (she actually had salmonella), a lion died after being administered over twice the usual amount of anesthetic, and more. I remember the names and details of these animals from when I first read these cases 20 years ago. But the one I'm talking about today is that of Nancy the elephant.
Nancy was a 46-year-old African elephant whose health had been steadily declining for several years. She suffered from a bone infection in her foot that seriously affected her mobility and quality of life. She had lost a lot of weight, she was fatigued, she even lay down at times. Nobody could be blamed for deciding to euthanize the obviously ill animal.
But they could be blamed for what was discovered in the necropsy after she was euthanized. While she did indeed have a diseased foot, the bone infection was only "moderate." Why, then, was she so obviously unwell? Her lungs had been destroyed by the effects of untreated tuberculosis. It was the tuberculosis, not the sore foot, that most contributed to her decline in health.
Here’s the scary part: nobody knows how long she'd had it because she hadn't been tested for tuberculosis, a known concern for zoo elephants, in TWO YEARS. All this despite the fact that it's MANDATORY for all zoo elephants to receive a tuberculosis test once per year-- and in fact, it was a National Zoo staff member who pushed for that reform in the first place. And the elephant was on Prednisone for her foot issues, which zoo staff noted in her records made her more vulnerable to illnesses like TB. In fact, none of the zoo's elephants had been tested recently, which meant any of them, including one who was pregnant, may have had tuberculosis, too.
There are documented cases of humans catching tuberculosis from elephants. Now, Nancy the elephant had bovine tuberculosis, which seems to be less contagious to humans and which elephants haven't so far spread to humans... BUT it has spread to humans from black rhinos, a fairly close relative, so it seems likely that elephants COULD spread it. It can also take a while for TB for incubate (and can also be latent without symptoms), especially for elephants, so the elephants OR keepers who were around Nancy were at serious risk for TB.
NOW HERE IS THE PART THAT I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT UNTIL TODAY:
Spelman actively tried to COVER UP the situation, potentially putting many more people at risk. The elephant house was closed to zoo guests, but they were only told it was for "renovations." (The actual renovations, incidentally, were to improve ventilation so that illness would be less likely to spread.)
A BBC news crew that came to film the elephants was asked to keep a healthy distance from the elephants for their emotional health and the crew's safety-- the explanation given was that the elephants' group dynamics had been thrown off by Nancy's death. Spelman instructed zoo staff not to mention the TB situation to the BBC crew and, if asked why Nancy died, they were to respond that it was for multiple reasons and that the official test results weren't all back yet.
And here's the most shocking part of all, the part that made me GASP out loud. Spelman still personally gave some special VIP behind-the-scenes tours of the elephant house during the months that the elephant house was closed, a time when the remaining elephant inhabitants could potentially still develop active TB.
One VIP who received an elephant house tour was PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON and five family members!!!!
BILL. CLINTON. THE GOSHDARN PRESIDENT.
While zoo staff says that the tour was deliberately distanced and nobody got close to an elephant, there are photos of Bill Clinton's nephew about a foot away from an elephant's trunk. You know, their nose. The part they can spread disease with. So, uh, definitely in the danger zone there.
Hillary Clinton's brother, Tony Rodham, was on the tour and he said that nobody in the party was warned about TB risk or asked if they had any medical conditions that might (a. make them susceptible to communicable disease, or (b. be contagious to the elephants. This is especially egregious because according to zoo guidelines, all behind-the-scenes tour participants MUST be asked these questions-- not just when there's a very real possibility of a TB outbreak at the zoo.
Fortunately, none of the zoo's other elephants OR keepers ever tested positive for tuberculosis. But it was certainly a close call! And imagine what would have happened if a US President caught TB from a close encounter with an elephant thanks to poorly managed zoo staff.
Presidents meet a lot of people. In fact, this zoo visit happened only 2 weeks before the inauguration of President George W. Bush, which Clinton attended. He very well could have started a TB outbreak there. Heck, TWO US Presidents could have been infected!
Now THAT is something I will be thinking about for a long time!

Yandere yoriichi where he's too clingy because of his past and h won't let go of reader not matter how much they explain they have to go anywhere... please....go crazy with it..(have a great day and have fun)
Tsugikuni Yoriichi- Far Too Attached
Tumblr media
“Yoriichi…” You nervously say a single word, out of the blue, almost laughing in the same manner as the much stronger man clung firmly and even desperately to your poor bruised waist, keeping you from walking… or running away from him. You were afraid of the quiet kind man you use to call your friend, he was so obviously obsessed with you that you tried to drift apart from him
Make him forget about you and move on. But no, he followed you everywhere until the point you feel unsafe and horrified each time you leave your home. Yoriichi clung onto you as fast as he could, leaning on your shoulder and stumbling along with you as you walked, most people thought he was just a affectionate boyfriend but you truly knew what was wrong with Yoriichi
He’s sick. He’s twisted. He’s a monster, a demon over demons
“Yes…” Yoriichi answered mindlessly, his hands clinging your kimono as of letting go would cause his heart to stop. You wanted to push him off you so bad and call out for help as you run full speed from this awful household he has forced you to stay in for longer than the hour or so you were promised, when you wanted to have tea with him. You’re a kind soul, you didn’t want to say no to Yoriichi’s very eager request
Even if he is so awful, you weren’t able to refuse him. But you should have… and you regret your decision of being unconditionally kind to him
“C-Can… I go now?” You stutter out the reasonable request with raw terror and adrenaline pumping into your veins, his built arms were basically constricting your lungs and it felt like you were being suffocated with how tight he held you and how firm he forced you to brush against his equally fit chest. He didn’t care for your discomfort or your horror, he just wanted to sniff your hair, touch your warm goosebump-covered skin and live out his sick fantasies of you in person
Yoriichi met eyes with you the second you finished your request and your lips pressed close, those dark pinkish-red irises made your bones feel like they were crumbling into grain and your confidence was being shot out through a high-speed canon. He was too strong, you had no way to escape him, his arms radiated intense strength and his eyes radiated intense pressure
A pressure that made your legs feel useless all in one glare
You knew you couldn’t convince him to willingly let you leave his hell of a household without him attached to your side as if he is a cancer bump. It’s horrifying, he has been like this ever since you befriended him, you were his swordsmith and you grew closer to him since you felt a strong sense of empathy for him and his saddening situation
He lost his wife and unborn child, he lost his brother, he lost his parents. He is truly lonely and you wanted to give him a sense of purpose. Since he truly didn’t have anybody anymore, and you wanted to be his friend
Unaware that you’re kindness had caused Yoriichi to go mad over you. Grow a horrible obsession over you that made it unbearable to merely breath without you within his vision, you didn’t just give him a reason to continue on with his meaningless life, you gave him a need to breathe the same air you do
Don’t leave. Don’t leave, he repeated in his mind as veins of grip strength ran over his hands to prevent you from even twitching in his arms. He can’t let you move the tiniest bit, it’ll let you try wriggle free and you leaving has his heart cracking into pieces. He needs you
He needs you
“You can’t go…”

I feel like Carmy would love to watch you get ready. Especially if you give him a little GRWM and explain all of the steps and products. He would listen so intently. He just loves staring and watching you do anything really.
-🍯
Oh gosh he so would! When you get ready in the morning, if he has time he’ll sit on the bathroom counter and just watch you. It’s a little bit daunting the first time he does it after spending the night at your place.
“Carm. You’re starring, baby.”
“What are you putting on there?” He points to the bottle in your hand.
“This is my SPF.”
“Isn’t it like… Winter? Why do you need sunscreen?”
“Sun rays are just as harmful in the winter as in the summer, Carmy! I gotta keep my skin protected. Sun screen is the best way to prevent skin cancer,” you explain.
“Should you put some on me, then?”
“Oh my god. I thought you’d never ask.”
From then on, Carmy will make it his mission to sit and watch you get ready when he’s over. He’ll ask what stuff is if he’s never seen it before, or if you buy a new product. As long as it’s not makeup, he’s willing to let you put anything you want on his skin.
He asks a lot of questions during the makeup part of your routine. Mostly, he’s curious about how you choose eye shadow colors everyday, and how you find the right shade of blush. He knows how color theory works on paper from years of drawing, but has no clue how that would work on human skin.
I just know in my bones that one day when he walks into work Richie notices he smells like flowers from the lotion you put on him that morning, and teases the fuck out of him for it. Carmy doesn’t mind though, because it means he smells like you.

I'm sure I've talked about it afore but I also believe John straight up couldn't heal the Seventh cancer. Less for reasons it it being inherently necromantic and more just, what we know if it. We know it's genetic and inherent to those with it.
John could cure cancers in people with tumours that had popped up through somatic mutation, sure, because those were discrete populations of cells that were Cancer, and the rest of the body was Not Cancer. He could just identify them and kill them, it's presumably relatively straightforward for a necromancer, who may even be able to target dormant metastatic cells. With a little magic you can remove all the cancerous cells from the body, cleanse them of it.
But Cyth and Dulcie's cancers were not like that, they were not genetically distinct from the rest of their cells. This was not a population of mutant cells to be hunted down and killed, the gene for Have Cancer was a part of every cell in their bodies. As far as I know there's never been any indication that John could actively change DNA (he didn't do his own eyes). At a biological level there's simply no way to actually separate them from their cancer.
Blood cancer, necromancy and physical ailments
This started as a reflection on the evergreen “but could John have healed Cytherea’s cancer?” and then it went off… somewhere else, namely necromancers being physically frail and what it means for the worldbuilding and thematically. Bear with me etc.
what do we know about the nature of Cytherea’s cancer?
Very little! We know it runs in the necromantic line of the Seventh, but we don’t actually know how house heirship is passed, so we don’t know if it only affects one / a few family lines or most of the House. Cytherea-as-Dulcie says that her family “wanted her to keep the genes going,” implying that the illness was rare outside her immediate family, but Dulcinea doesn’t seem to have been under the same pressure, from what little we know.
Another guess is that the Seventh hereditary cancer is tied to necromancy in some way, as it seems to only manifest in descendants who also exhibit necromantic attitude. If that’s the case, then it’s likely it is a strain of leukemia that manifested post-resurrection and didn’t exist before (like necromantic ability) and like necromancy, it can’t be studied properly – because the understanding of the illness barely evolved from Cytherea’s time to Dulcie.

WHAT HAPPENS TO A HUMAN BODY IN SPACE??
Blog#438
Saturday, September 21st, 2024.
Welcome back,
On the ISS, or spacecraft that have flown into space, the force of gravity is much weaker than on the earth. As a result, many people show symptoms of "space sickness," such as headaches, nausea, and vomiting. When we are on the earth, we are strongly affected by the force of gravity. We have a small organ called the vestibular organ deep inside our ears (in the inner ear) that plays a key role in keeping our bodies balanced.

This organ converts information on gravity and acceleration experienced by the body into electrical signals and sends them to the brain. While on the earth, the brain always receives gravity information from the vestibular organs, and uses it to keep the body balanced.
In the low gravity of space, the information received from the vestibular organs changes. This is thought to confuse the brain, leading to space sickness. But this condition does not continue for very long. If you stay for a few days in space, your brain adjusts its interpretation of the vestibular information, so the space sickness goes away.

There are individual differences in the severity of space sickness, and some people don't experience it at all. When you return to earth, you experience the effects of earth's gravity again, and thus "gravity sickness" sometimes occurs, with similar symptoms as space sickness.
Blood and other bodily fluids are pulled by gravity into the lower body. When you go to space, gravity weakens and thus fluids are no longer pulled down, resulting in a state where fluids accumulate in the upper body. This is why the face swells in space. The mucous membranes of the nose also swell, so astronauts often have congested noses. If you stay for a while in space, the fluids in your body balance out, and facial swelling typically begins to disappear after a few weeks.

Conversely, astronauts returning to earth often experience dizziness when standing up, known as orthostatic hypotension. This occurs because gravity on the earth is stronger than in space, and it is more difficult to deliver blood from the heart to the head. In space, blood can be delivered with less force, so weakening of the heart muscles may also be a cause of dizziness when standing.
If you stay for a long time in space, your muscles and bones will weaken, primarily in the legs and lower back. Gravity always acts on you while you're on the earth, so even if you're not really conscious of resisting gravity, you're always using the muscles of your lower body.

In space, where gravity is very weak, posture can be maintained without standing on your legs, and there's no need to use your legs to move about. Muscles weaken and bone mass decreases if you stay for a long time in space.
Therefore, research is underway to verify, in space, the effects of existing drugs for preventing bone loss by astronauts. Also, to prevent weakening of muscle and bone, astronauts exercise for about two hours a day during their stay on the International Space Station (ISS).

The surface of the earth is enveloped by the atmosphere. This atmosphere provides the oxygen we need to breathe, and also protects organisms from the UV rays and radiation that impinge on the earth. Astronauts who stay in space, where there is almost no atmosphere, are exposed to higher energy radiation than on the earth. If a person is exposed to a lot of higher energy radiation, the risk increases that they will develop diseases such as cancer.
At JAXA, we work hard to keep space radiation exposure below a specified level, and thereby prevent astronauts from developing health problems.
