the poets come and go the first day, and they all have very different reactions. charlie’s angry (but at who?), knox is scared, pitts and meeks are confused, and cameron is struck speechless; why can’t any of them look him in the eyes? they act awkward, skittish around him almost. treating him like something too delicate. like something to be locked up and put away.

but todd? he understands. out of everyone, why does he understand the most? he should be scared, upset, angry, and speechless, being neil’s own roommate and best friend; but, he wasn’t. he smiled at him, tear tracks stained his face, visible when the fluorescent light hit them the right way. sure he should have been all those things at first (it should have been amplified seeing the condition neil was in) but he was calm. like he knew he would be okay. because he would be, eventually.

i genuinely love your darkstripe. i love that maybe if he had been apprenticed to literally anyone else, he would've been ok. he just wants to cook and help people but was doomed by a poison the minute he was apprenticed to Tigerclaw. he makes me so sad thinking about what he could've been

Sometimes it just takes one bad influence to destroy your whole life, and the worst part is, you won't be able to blame them. They'll make you into someone who does it to yourself. You'll ruin everything with your own two hands, all for them.

Make no mistake; Darkstripe was loved. Sure, he has no father, but he has a mom, Dappletail. His uncle Thrushpelt is the deputy, and absolutely adores him. He was always getting into trouble with his sister Cricketclaw, Bluestar gives up a life killing a badger to save them. He was born into a good family. He wasn't an unhappy child.

But he wanted to please Tigerclaw, more than anything. He wanted to be the best, most noble warrior. He'd do anything for him. He'd be anything. If that meant killing his hobbies, or distancing himself from his family, or sacrificing all of his free time, he'd do it. Anything to strengthen his Clan.

Who could deny that Tigerclaw had raised a fine soldier?

And when he was given Longpaw, in turn, he expected the same of him. And Longtail did it to Swiftpaw. A long line, from Thistleclaw all the way down to the dogs.

There's nothing special about it. And there's not even anything special about Darkstripe. There is no spark of darkness within him, or even within Tigerclaw. Just hurt people, hurting people, who go on to hurt even more people.

Darkstripe wouldn't want your pity, though. Or anyone else's. I think he thinks it's pretty pathetic, really, now that Tigerclaw and the Battle of the True Eclipse are so far away. He threw his whole life away just so he could willingly be miserable. It's fucking embarrassing.

More embarrassing than the satisfaction he gets from cooking a stupid little nice meal for these cutesy happy dumb dopes. So he may as well do this, if he's going to cringe at everything anyway.

Sup, I just saw your “crackerjack lives au” while scrolling thru the crackerjack sugarman tag, and I’m pretty curious about it! (I actually have an au where CJ lives as well, but it turns out verrrrry differently lol). Anyway, what’s crackerjack and Bojack’s relationship like in your au?

Omg I didn’t realize you’re the person behind @bojackandherb! I’ve see your posts in the Bojack tags and I really like them, and your Declared Dead AU too! I’m sorry it took me some time to put that together and to answer this, it’s been a little while since I’ve explored this AU and I’m just now going through my whole inbox

To your question, I like to think Crackerjack and Bojack have a good relationship in this AU. Since Beatrice has pretty spit on the family name and the Sugarmans’ original heir is still alive here, I imagine Crackerjack is running the family business with his father and is expected to take it over one day when Joseph dies. He probably has a wife and kids by now as since that’s what everyone did at the time. Maybe he’s married to the heiress of some partner business (like how Beatrice was set up with Corbin) but I imagine, as a man, he had a little more choice between the rich girls his parents had connections to and could pick one he actually liked. I like the idea of Bojack having some cousins to play with, even if they’re all older than him and find it weird that Bojack lives with their grandparents (as much as Crackerjack tries to encourage a good relationship). Crackerjack himself visits his mama and nephew often and loves taking the little boy out for ice cream, even if that strengthens Beatrice’s resentment against them both…

I’ll have to get back into this AU and draw one of their ice cream outings sometime! Maybe I’ll also draw up some concepts for Bojack’s cousins! Thank you so much!

Lonely vibes (leaning into the interpersonal potential of The Lonely)

The isolation that comes from being surrounded by people, having lots of people who you know but none of whom are your friends, none of whom you could ask for something even as simple as a hug, the loneliness of being subjected to the silent treatment, of wanting so desperately to talk to someone but knowing they won't talk back, the crushing emptiness of being in a relationship with a narcissist who gives you just enough to have you come back but only so they can watch as you slowly get hollowed out, as they say that you're doing it to yourself, being to odd one out even though you don't want to be so trying to twist yourself into something that people want from you but in the end you both know you're not enough so why should they even bother, you're not seen not because you're invisible but because no one cares enough about you to actually look

not to quote fkn bojack but this is one of my favourite interpretations of loneliness

it's a very interesting perspective on both you as a person and the people you are surrounded by

Most of my posts about my aus are silly but realistically if Bojack and Herb got together, after they got through the honeymoon phase, their relationship would have a lot of ups and downs as they figure out how to actually make things work. Because Bojack is, well, a dysfunctional person in general, and even if herb could be a stabilizing influence on Bojack, obviously he’s not going to be able to erase Bojack’s problems. I can see them getting into fights sometimes, maybe even almost breaking up a few times, but I think they could probably work things out.

I think for their relationship to ultimately be successful and healthy in the long run, Bojack would probably need to start going to therapy and getting treatment for his mental illnesses. (Herb would probably also benefit from therapy because getting outed would be traumatic if him no matter what, and even if he mostly recovered on his own, I think he still had unresolved issues from it)
