"Patience," Donna scolded, amused by how easily Ryan's curiosity seemed to be getting the better of him. "You'll find out soon enough. Now, could you get the door for me? I just need to grab something for Audrey really quick, and then I'll be right out and we can go." Fortunately, it didn't really matter whether or not her colleague bought the excuse. He didn't even need to step foot inside the house, because as soon as the door was open, the lights would flick on, everyone would spring out of their hiding spots with a shout of SURPRISE, and the carefully planned birthday party could officially begin.

Christmas Tree
Warnings: Fluff, Wallace Boden x Black!Afab!Female!Reader

Day 21 - Christmas Tree
*there are writing mistakes in my works, I don’t proofread!*
。 ♡ 。 ♡。 ♡. 。 ♡ 。 ♡。 ♡ 。
“Thank you.” You said to Donna as she gave you a cup of warm hot chocolate. You were over the Boden’s house for Christmas, helping Donna with dinner and Wallace with wrapping gifts. You always loved to come over and help out, especially around the holidays when Wallace is busy and won’t have enough time to come home. You acted sorta like a nanny from time to time. Donna loved having you around to babysit Terrence and just to talk to another person from time to time.

Merry December 2022 - Day 9
Day 9 of Merry December
Prompt: Holidays
Fandom: Chicago Fire
Pairing: Matthew Casey x OFC (Jade)
Words: 1191
T.W.: N/A
Summary: Holidays with the family.
Matt had been looking for the perfect gift for Jade for a month and he only had two weeks left to find it. To say he was getting desperate was an understatement. He had already bought a few gifts for their friends, all that was left was hers and, by God, was it hard. He had a pretty good idea of what he wanted, the hard part was finding it.
He and his team had just finished another call when, on their way back to the firetruck, he looked at an antique store’s window and he froze. That it was. The perfect gift. Telling Herrman that he would be right back, Matt walked in and asked the old lady behind the counter if it was for sale. When she said it was, he didn’t even care about the price. He told her he would take it. He had finally found Jade’s gift.
Matt is in the firehouse’s kitchen getting himself a mid-afternoon snack, remembering that moment, when Jade walked in, her jacket under her arm.
- “Hey babe. Going somewhere?”
- “Yep, I’m going into town with Chief Boden. He’s having trouble finding a gift for Donna and I’m gonna go with him to see if we can find something.” – Matt could tell she was excited by the way she talked fast and the quick kiss on the cheek she gave him.
Jade had decided the crew at firehouse 51 was her family, becoming this sort of motherly figure to them. Which was kind of hilarious, considering she was a few years younger than some of the guys there. But that’s who she was, always taking care of the people she loved.
Christmas Eve had finally arrived and they were all caught in the joy of the holidays. When he and Jade had started dating, she basically demanded that they celebrate all the holidays, to put in her words, “It will give us a sense of normalcy.”, something that his work sometimes didn’t allow for. At first he had fought her on it, but, damn, can the woman be stubborn. Eventually, he gave in and agreed.
And now there they were, three days before Christmas Eve. Sitting around the table in the firehouse, two roasted hams in the middle of the table and all sorts of side dishes spread around the table surrounding it. He could, also, smell the intoxicating smell of home baked pie coming from the kitchen. Jade had been in the kitchen all day, preparing dinner, making sure everything was perfect for their Christmas together. And that right there, just made him love her even more.
Toasts were made, dinner was eaten and they were now relaxing in the couches and around the tables. Terrance, Chief Boden’s son, kept asking Jade about all the different traditions that people would do to celebrate Christmas and Jade, God bless her, would answer to all of them, sometimes repeating herself but never losing her patience.
Pulling her close to him on the couch, Matt kissed the top of her head. She looked up and leaned towards him, giving him a sweet kiss in return, her hand over his chest. Breaking the kiss, they just stared at each other, loving looks on both their faces.
They were both brought back to reality by a questioning Terrance.
- “When can we open the gifts, Jade?”
- “Maybe we could exchange them now?” – Jade answered him, a smile on her lips, before turning towards Boden and Donna to see if they were okay with the idea. Both of them had no problem exchanging gifts early, after all they always made their own traditions.
They exchanged gifts, allowing the kids to open theirs first so they’d be distracted while the adults opened theirs. As every year, they had done a secret santa type of thing for the adults. Looking around, Matt saw how happy everyone was and when his eyes landed on Jade and he saw the huge smile on her lips while watching little Terrance play with his firetruck, he knew he would love her forever.
Matt had saved the best for last. Giving the small box to Jade, he couldn’t wait to see her reaction. Jade opened the box and her eyes went wide. Inside was an antique gold locket. She had mentioned how she had always wanted one and Matt had been desperately looking for one. When she opened it, she smiled. In there, was a picture of the two of them, taken not that long ago. She kissed him tenderly and thanked him, saying that she loved it. He took it from her and put it around her neck. It fitted perfectly.
After giving her secret santa gift to Mouch, she turned to Matt to give him a special present. One she had made especially for him. Jade handed a medium size box to Matt and waited. Matt pulled the top of the box and, after removing the loose paper that was on top, he just froze. Looking very slowly back at Jade, she could see he had tears in his eyes when he asked her if she was serious. When she nodded her head in confirmation that she wasn’t joking, tears in her eyes as well, he picked her up and kissed her passionately.
Severide looked confused at his best friend, being seated right next to them on the couch. Looking over at Stella, expecting to see the same look on her face, he was surprised to see that Stella had a sweet and kind smile on her face. Asking Matt what was going on, all that Matt did was point to the box Jade had just given him. Grabbing the box off of the couch, Severide looked stunned and excited all in one. Inside was a tiny baby onesie that said, in bold letters, “My dad’s a firefighter”. Severide looked back at Jade, who in return asked him if he was ready to be an uncle. He couldn’t help the huge smile on his face, pulling her into a tight hug.
Suddenly, Boden spoke.
- “The day we went to buy Donna’s gift, I realized I needed to buy you one, as well. I also already knew that you were expecting, thanks to someone who let it slip, so I asked Donna for help and she recommended this.”
Boden handed over the last gift of the night. Jade’s gift. Jade had told him not to worry about getting her a gift, since she already knew she was his secret santa, but he still felt the need to buy her something. Boden saw Jade opening the small box and the way her eyes wrinkled when she laughed at what was inside. Donna had recommended a onesie that looked exactly as their uniform. Everyone laughed and commented how adorable it was.
Jade took a look around. Matt had the biggest smile, already making plans with Severide and Boden for when the baby comes. Her eyes locked with Boden and all she could do was mouth a “Thank you”, before more tears of happiness spilled from her eyes. This Christmas would definitely be one for the books.

Hope you enjoyed it. :)

matt casey x reader? something hurt/comfort where they are both firefighters reader is on squad and matt is well, truck obviously
Anon! I’m sorry this took so long. School is in the thick of it lately, but I hope you like this!
Y/N woke up to noise from the baby monitor, making it known that their three-month-old was up and needed his parents' attention. You make your way out of bed and to his nursery. “Hi, there, baby. I’ve got you. Let’s spend some Mom and Dallin time before Dad gets up.” You say as you lift your son out of his crib. You are holding him, walking around the nursery, when you hear a noise from the doorway. You look at the source and see your husband smiling at you.
“Morning, Y/N.” “Morning, my love.” You reply, walking towards Matt as Dallin reaches out to his dad. Matt takes him from your arms, bending down to kiss you. “You ready to go back today?” “Yeah, but I’m going to miss this little chunk.” You say, running a hand over the soft hair on your son's head. “He’ll be ok. He’s going to be with Cindy and Donna. It’s summer break. The kids will be around to help.” Matt replies reassuringly as you kiss his cheek, watching his face turn red. The simple fact that you can still make him blush after several years and a kid together made you happy.
“That’s true. I’m more worried about you and me than him. It’s the longest I’ve been away from him, and you will be dealing with the aftermath.” You reply as you walk to the kitchen with your husband trailing behind, listening intently to Dallin as he tries to babble to his dad. “You’ll be ok. You know Cindy and Donna will keep us updated.” He replies as he enters the kitchen and sets Dallin in his bouncer, and gets his bottle ready.
You watch as Matt feeds your son, which makes your heart swell. You watch as Dallin takes in the sights and sounds of his dad talking and moving around the kitchen. “Staring much love?” “Maybe. But you’re a good dad. It amazes me how much this suits us.” “Yeah, it does.” He replies as he brings Dallin to his shoulder to burp him, putting the bottle in the sink to be washed.
The little family continues to get ready for the day, and you can’t help but tear up when you drop Dallin off at the Boden residence. Donna gives both you and Matt a hug, assuring you that Dallin will be just fine and that Cindy would be over later. You and Matt head back to your car and head to the station.
You walk hand in hand to the floor and hear cheers welcoming you back. Capp and Tony are the first to hug you, making it known that you were missed on Squad. You then feel a hand on your shoulder and turn around to see Severide, a smile on his face.
“My best squad member is back!” “You bet. Ya know, your best squad members baby wants to see his uncle again soon.” “He wants to see me, or you want me and Stella to watch him while you and Matt go on a date?” “Mmm, both,” you say as you walk into the firehouse.
Boden goes over the morning brief, and not long after, the bells go off. You and the rest of the station jump into action and make your way to the house fire. “Y/N, Cruz with me. We’re searching the top floor.” Severide says as he, Casey, Boden, and Hermann assess the situation.
The three of you mask up and head in, trying to find anyone still inside. “It’s clear!” You yell, and you start to make your way out of the building when everything goes black.
“Severide, where’s my wife?” Casey asks as he watches the two men exit the building. “She was right behind me.” He replies as he has to hold his friend back from running in. “Brett, Foster. Go in with Cruz and Severide and find Y/N.” Boden says as he grabs Casey’s arm. The four head back into the building and hear your PASS Alarm going off. “We got her, chief,” Cruz says into the radio as the other three get you on the backboard and carry you out.
Casey watches in horror as he sees you on the backboard, with soot-covered cheeks, as Sylvie takes off your mask and puts oxygen on you. “Chief…” “Go.” Matt all but runs to you, hopping in the back of the ambulance, grabbing your hand as you come too. You feel someone holding your hand and hear sirens, but the lack of oxygen makes it so you can’t think clearly. You mumble something, grabbing Sylvie’s attention, and she ups the oxygen levels. You feel the ambulance come to a stop and hear several voices outside of the rig.
It takes you a minute to realize what’s going on and when you do, you nearly pass out again. You did the one thing you had promised yourself that you wouldn’t do after you married Matt and had Dallin. You got hurt on the job. You go to lift the oxygen mask off your face when you feel Matt moving your hand away, “Y/N don’t. Please. Not until we know for sure.” He whispers, nearly begging. You nod in response as you feel the gurney being moved.
The team at Med makes sure you’re taken care of, and while you’re in the treatment room, the rest of the station shows up in the waiting room of the ED. Matt sees Herrmann first, and their silent conversation tells him that Cindy and Donna are on the way with Dallin. He sighs and drops into the closest chair, head in his hands. He doesn’t hear Cindy and Donna come in and only realizes they had when he feels a weight by his foot. He looks up and sees the car seat holding his son, along with the diaper bag. He notices the baby stir and gently lifts him out of the car seat, bringing him to his chest.
“Hi, buddy.” He says as Dallin grabs the collar of his shirt in his little fist, yawning and snuggling into his dad's shirt, eyes drooping. Matt rests his free hand on the back of his son's head, ignoring the hustle and bustle of the waiting room around him until he hears his name being called. He looks up and sees Maggie standing at the doors of the ED. “Matt, you can go see her if you want. Y/N just had some scrapes, a minor wrist fracture, and minor smoke inhalation.” She says as he stands up and walks towards the door. “Can I bring Dallin? “Of course,” Maggie says as they walk into the ED and your treatment room.
You look up at the noise you hear outside your room and smile as Matt walks in, with Dallin in his arms and Maggie right behind them. “I’ll leave you guys alone; holler if you need anything,” she says, closing the curtain. “Hi, hun.” You say sheepishly, not wanting to look Matt in the eye.
“Y/N. Look at me, please.” “Matt. I can’t. Not when I know I did something stupid after I promised myself I wouldn’t.” You say, tears running down your cheeks. Matt sits on the bed next to you, shifting Dallin in his arms as he lifts your chin to look at him. “You didn’t do anything stupid. Not you. Never. It could’ve happened to anyone.” “Matt…” “Y/N love, listen to me. This wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. You couldn’t have known that a board was going to fall. Cruz couldn’t have known; Severide couldn’t have known. No one. Accidents happen, especially with this job. You and I both know that. Was it pretty damn scary? Yeah, it was. But I know you and you, Y/N Casey, are tough.” He says, wiping tears from your cheeks with a thumb while he shifts Dallin into a more comfortable position in his arms.
“How long has he been asleep?” “Since I was holding him in the waiting room. Please tell me you’re not going to blame yourself for this.” “I’ll try not to.” You reply with a slight chuckle. He smiles and asks the nurse who comes in if you could be discharged. She replies that you could and gets started on the paperwork.
You get dressed in the clothes that were brought while you and Matt were talking. It took a minute to get the long sleeve top on with the wrist brace you had on, but you did it. Matt had Stella bring in the car seat and diaper bag so he could put Dallin down to help you put on your shoes. When Dallin wasn’t in his dad's arms, he was not a happy camper and started crying. “Oh buddy, dad’s sorry. But I gotta help mom for a minute.” He says, fishing in the bag next to it for a pacifier. He finds it, and Dallin accepts it, his cries quieting.
You smile at your husband and run a hand through his hair as he finishes tying your shoes. “What?” “Just admiring you being the best husband and dad is all,” you say, reaching for his hand as he stands up. He slings the diaper bag over his shoulder and picks up the car seat with the other. The two of you walk out of Med and to your car brought over by someone from the firehouse.
“Let’s go home.” You say, sliding into the front seat as Matt gets Dallin situated in the back. “Let’s,” he replies, getting into the driver's side, grabbing your hand and starting the car, and making the drive home.

Signed Casts - Leslie Shay x Fem!Reader - Chicago Fire
Request: Hi! I was wondering if you could do one with Shay x reader where the reader get hurts and Shay takes care of her? Thank you so much 💗
You'd seen Leslie get hurt in the line of duty several times throughout your relationship with her. You were always the one sat in the chair besides the hospital bed, helping her, despite the fact that she was the paramedic, not you.
Shay wasn't expecting for Boden to tell her to get to Chicago Med because you were hurt. She wasn't expecting for you to be hurt right before Boden was supposed to be getting married.
(Shay wasn't told until hours later about how right after Boden and Donna were married, the firehouse were called to a fire in a five story building. A fire that exploded and had several members of the firehouse in the hospital too.)
"Y/n? Oh my god, what happened?" Shay exclaimed as she was directed towards the treatment room.
"Broken right arm, ortho is on the way up to fit a cast but the x-rays show that you will not need surgery." Doctor Halstead explained, smiling softly as Shay hurried to your side.
"How did you break your arm in the first place?" Shay questioned, glancing over your arm as you avoided her gaze.
"That is something I am also interested in learning." Will teased, leaving you to glare at him, ignoring his playful smirk as you sighed.
"You know that cat that lives down the street-"
"How does Domino from down the street have anything to do with you breaking your arm?" Shay retorted, brushing a fleck of soil from your eyebrow.
"Domino almost got hit by a car. I ran out into the road to grab Domino but I rugby-tackled the ground dodging the car, and landed on my arm." You explained, leaving Shay to pause.
"What happened to Domino after that?"
"Domino hit me in the face with their tail, then walked off home, completely unbothered." You shrugged, leaving Will to chuckle before he was called away to another case.
"Thanks, Will." Shay announced as Will walked out, leaving you and Shay to catch each others' eye.
///
"You know, breaking your arm technically saved my life along with Domino's life." Shay admitted as you rolled over onto your side in your and Shay's shared bed.
"What? How?" You mumbled, cracking open one eye as you felt Shay's fingers running down your bare spine.
"The firehouse were called to a minor fire just after I arrived at the hospital to see you. That minor fire blew up. Mills broke his leg and then Dawson and the floater almost died and I-"
"Hey, hey, babe, please, breathe, it's okay, you're here..." You replied, trying to reach towards Shay but the cast prevented you.
"Dammit, I'd be hugging you if I didn't have a busted arm." You admitted, leaving Shay to chuckle through her rambling, her hands going to your hips as she pulled you on top of her. Shay smiled as she felt your lips on her collarbone, leaving her to kiss the crown of your head in response.
///
A chuckle left Shay's lips as she observed you attempting to make dinner. You were standing on your tip-toes, trying to reach for the lasagne sheets with your left hand as your casted arm stayed in its sling.
The warmth of Shay's front pressed up against your back left shivers running down your spine as she reached up behind you, grabbing the box of lasagne sheets and pressing it into your hand.
"Need some help?" Shay asked, watching you attempting to open the box.
"Sure... if you can open the box, I'll prep the sheets and you can stir the sauce." You replied, leaving Shay to nod as she took the box from you to open.
///
"How are you doing, babe?" Shay enquired as soon as she returned from on-call. With Gabby as a firefighter, Shay was assigned as the paramedic in charge and had a new partner, Sylvie Brett.
"Did you know left-handedness occurs in around 12% of the world's population?"
Shay chuckled at your response, walking into the room to lay next to you on the couch.
"Still annoyed you only have one working hand?" Shay retorted, glancing at the cast that had been signed by your friends and Shay's from the ER, Firehouse 51 and District 21.
"Well, maybe I was looking forward to that pottery class we were going to take."
"The only person who was looking forward to that was Kelly, he just wanted to see us suffer at a pottery wheel after he bought the damn gift vouchers. I still think it was a prank-"
"I wanted to make a boob plant pot." You interrupted with a pout, leaving Shay to pause.
"Is that why you were so interested in the pottery class? Heck, I love you!" Shay laughed, leaving you to feel your skin burning, Shay's laughter becoming contagious.
"I love you too." You grinned, kissing her nose as Shay kept laughing.

❛ i overheard my name in your conversation … ❜ Tricia to Donna
magicandmayhcm
"Stella was just wondering if you might be interested in joining the Girls on Fire program." Donna had planned on asking Tricia about it later that evening, but after being given an opening not even ten minutes after hanging up the phone, she decided to take it. "So, what do you think? Is it maybe something you'd at least consider?"

chicago fire <33
otp - You know what? Cindy and Herrmann. I love them so much. How in the literal first episode we see them losing their home, but they stay together and she's so supportive of him and he supports her. They're just amazing.
favourite canon pairing - It's either Brettsey or Stellaride, and don't ask me to choose. It depends on the day.
worst pairing ever - Brettonio. We saw more of it on Fire so I'm putting it here. I just...nope.
guilty pleasure pairing - Sylvie x anyone, tbh. I do want to write another Sylvie/Adam fic, they're super fun to write together.
a pairing you want to see more - Donna and Boden, for sure. That moment where she was teaching from 51 and used Ritter and Gallo to demonstrate Newton's laws? EXCELLENT. Also Violet/Hawkins. There's definitely something brewing and I'm excited.
that pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no” - maybe D*wsey? Brettonio as well, a lot of people really liked them.
favorite non-romantic pair - Mouch considers Sylvie his daughter and I will take no questions on the matter. Also Sylvie and Violet.

little miss cupid - jay halstead
jay halstead x fem!reader
summary: in which y/n tries to introduce jay to the world of online dating.
requested?: nope (but requests are open :))
warnings: unedited, gif not mine
masterlist
“okay, now we need to pick some pictures for your profile.” y/n was sure that jay had stopped listening ages ago, but the man besides her had not moved from his position looking over her shoulder. his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to his body.
strangely, this wasn’t unusual for a friday night. at least for them anyways.
it wasn’t a secret that y/n was known as the cupid in her friendship group. she had been the one to introduce mouch to trudy, the one to track down donna when boden had expressed interest in the teacher and she had been the one to nudge kim and adam to pursue their relationship (not one she bragged about considering the way they had ended not so long ago).
but the one person she couldn’t crack happened to be her best friend. ever since they had met 11 years ago, y/n could only recall jay ever having one real girlfriend. even that had ended after a couple of months due to the two having a row about jay not giving her enough attention.
y/n had tried setting him up with old friends, new friends, even people she had gone to the academy with. but it was no use, jay always found an excuse not to go or why they ‘weren’t the one’. beginning to doubt her own cupid-like abilities, she had resorted to the pat possible option besides from him being alone forever: online dating.
“okay what we working with here, big boy?” y/n’s finger was steady as she scrolled through his photo library. smiling briefly at how the majority of his photos were of the pair. whether they were silly pictures she had taken whilst they were in the way to a crime scene, or snaps of nights they’d spent watching classics, or even drunk pictures that y/n had hoped never to see again.
“what about that one?” jay pointed towards the corner picture, drawing y/n’s attention to the man. she took in the way his eyes had lightened a whole three shades, but his eyes were not on the phone, instead they were studying each intricate detail of her face.
he loved the way part of her eyebrow missed a few strands of hair due to a small scar based on a work injury. he loved the way her lips were a bright shade of pink due to the way she would bit her bottom lip while concentrating. he loved her.
“jay you can’t use that one, i’m in it.” y/n giggled, the picture had been taken on jay’s birthday a couple of months back. unlike his normal attire, he was dressed out in a nice shirt that he only brought out for special events and occasions. his arms held the woman that was perched upon his lap, arms around his neck as she smiled widely.
“why not? you look beautiful.” jay argued back, making a blush appear on the cheeks of them both. a strange sensation filling her stomach and spreading warmth through her veins.
“uh-thank you.” eyes wide, jay seemed to realise his slip up. bringing his hand up to scratch the back of his neck, y/n had half expected for him to release her from their close proximity, but neither of them dared breaking contact. “-but your future girlfriend doesn’t want to see you holding some other woman, they want to see you shirtless, or you with a puppy. something that speaks for itself about what you are like, you know?”
the look of thought covered his face for no more than a second, his finger slowly tracing down her arm calmly. y/n tried not to melt into his touch, not knowing why she felt so vulnerable, so weak.
"well this photo tells them about the woman i love the most.”
it wasn’t that y/n didn’t know this. jay was the most important man in her life. he was the only one that had always been there since the age of just 17. she was not sure if it was possible to care more about a person than the affection she shared for jay. yet hearing it out loud felt euphoric.
“i think i am beginning to see why you are so single.” the pair laughed along, as y/n took the initiative to take over creating the man’s profile. jay had switched his attention over to the netflix series they had been watching, yet his thoughts circulated around his girl.
a little over an hour went by, before y/n handed jay his phone back. a proud smile on her face, as she leant her chin against his chest, watching his reaction to what she considered a masterpiece. jay’s eyebrows raised in surprise, as his thumb ran over the screen studying her work.
“wow,” he let out a deep breath, his hot breath gracing over her face. “you’re good.” it was true, jay knew that if he had ever tried to do this, he would have given up at the first hurdle. y/n hummed in agreement, leaning over to press something on his screen.
the pair began making their way through the different profiles, y/n let jay take the lead, seeing as he would have to be the one talking to the women. except it seemed that jay had picked something wrong out with every woman he saw, swiping left over and over and over again.
“jay.” she whined, throwing her head back in annoyance.
“y/n.” he mirrored her tone. rolling her eyes, she took the phone back.
“there are not going to be any women left if you don’t give any of them a chance,” her finger swiping right on every profile she believed would match the man she knew. “do you know how many women would die for a hot detective?” y/n continued to giggle, not realising the seriousness that possessed jay’s face.
“but not you.” jay mumbled absentmindedly. snapping her head in his direction, y/n frowned.
“huh?”
“nothing.” jay felt stupid, incredibly stupid. the thoughts he had kept in the depth of his mind had found themselves on the tip of his tongue. unfortunately, he knew that he had not friended the woman over her passiveness, no she was direct and would not allow him to get away with such a pass away comment.
“come on, what do you mean not me?” the room became smaller the more jay let the silence lay. his breath shaking, considering that this might be the moment he had been dreading. the moment he told the truth.
“you know i still remember the first time we met,” the change in direction of conversation caught y/n off guard, but she didn’t dare interrupt, as he watched him with glossy eyes. “i still remember the floral dress that you walked in old man chambers’ english class. it was your first day and everyone was talking about the pretty girl. ryan roscoe tried to grab your ass and you kicked him in the balls. it was in that moment that i knew i would fall in love with you.” an unreadable emotion washed over y/n’s face, as jay strived through the courage thriving through his body. “i tried for years to get you to look at me in a way that wasn’t your ‘best friend’, but you never did.”
y/n didn’t know at what point that they had begin to lean in, but the two soon recognised how close their faces had become. y/n didn’t know how she was feeling, except the fact she had not desire to pull away. instead, she brought her hand up to rest on his jaw, the pad of her thumb running down his cheek.
“you never told me any of this until now, why?” it was a valid question, 11 years of friendship, 11 years of unspoken feelings, why now?
“things feel... different now.” it was undeniable, something in the air suffocated them with something that made them feel alive, a feeling the pair had only felt in the presence of the other.
jay’s eyes didn’t pull up from her lips, the feeling of her touch on his face was unexplainable. he wasn’t sure if it was possible to feel this was with anyone other than y/n y/l/n. jay didn’t know how he had gained so much bravery in such a short space of time, but he didn’t dare ponder on it. using it to his advantage.
“can i- can i kiss you?” jay didn’t receive the verbal response he was waiting for. instead in a flash moment, the plump lips he had been examining pressed against his own. the first kiss was soft, passionate, allowing every feeling they had ever considered flood through their action, reminding the other how long this had been building up. by the second kiss, the sentimentality had been replaced by lust, pulling the other close, as though they were waiting for the moment they woke from this dream.
when her breath had ran out, y/n hesitantly pulled away from jay. the stinging in her lips and erratic beating of her heart was addicting. her mind remained foggy, until a thought passed her mind.
“i wish you would have told me this before i spent an hour creating your tinder profile, think about all the hearts you have just broken!” she giggled, swatting his chest lightly, watching as he chuckled deeply.
“shut up and come here.” jay teased, flipping them over and pushing his lips against her own. drowning in the middling of their heartbeats and body heats. and for the first time, the infamous matchmaker of the 21st precinct had found her match.

Playing With Fire - Moving On
A/N: So this is my first crack at Chicago fire fanfiction, so don't judge too hard, alright? This will unfold from the beginning of season three, so if you haven't watched it yet, but plan to; SPOILER ALERT! I tried to follow along with the storyline of the show, but some things have been changed. Shout out to my superawesome beta @thorne93, you rock!
Fandom: Chicago Fire
Pairing: Kelly Severide x Beth (OFC)
Warnings: Language probably.
Wordcount: 2065
MASTERLIST
The world was spinning when Beth woke up the next morning, so she decided it wasn't even worth it to open her eyes. That's until she remembered how the night had ended, and her eyes flew open.
“Oh thank god,” she muttered when she learned she was alone in her bed. For a while she just lay there in silence, listening for any sounds in her apartment, when she was certain that she was alone she decided to get up. Groaning, she rolled out of bed and threw a blanket around her shoulders before she padded to the kitchen in need of water, Advil, and bacon.
She furrowed her brows at the little note on her table, her tired and puffy eyes having a hard time concentrating on the words.
Thanks for a fun night! Sorry to sneak out before dawn, but duty calls. I realized that I didn't get your number, so I'm gonna leave you with mine just in case you want a re-run. No pressure.
- Jay
Beth groaned as she balled up the paper. “Nice jobb, dumbass,” she scolded herself.
Thanks to the copious amount of alcohol she had consumed last night, her nerves were fried, so when there was a knock on the door, she jumped. For a second she just stared at the door, very annoyed with the person on the other side of it.
“Good morning, player,” Gabby greeted in a chipper tone, smiling from ear to ear. “You look like shit,” she added as she handed Beth a cup of coffee she had brought for her.
“I look better than I feel then,” Beth mumbled as she took the styrofoam cup from her friend. She didn't even invite her in, just turned around and started making her way back to the kitchen.
“You alone?” Gabby asked, tentatively looking around the small apartment.
“Why?” Beth asked, snapping her head around so fast she thought she might throw up. Damn hangover.
“You know Jay works with my brother right?” she deadpanned. “Plus, Otis and Hermann were still at the bar when you two left. So was Kelly - my roommate,” she summarized.
“Gossip spreads faster through a firehouse than it does through my family. I'm impressed,” Beth said with annoyance in her voice.
“Tell me about it,” Gabby agreed. “Look… I had Matt drive me downtown to get your car-” she handed Beth the keys - “He's outside and we really have to get to work. I just wanted to get you your keys and check in.”
“Thanks,” Beth said softly. “I'm good. A little embarrassed, and a lot hungover, but I'll live.”
“Nothing to be embarrassed about,” Gabby assured. “You are both consenting adults, nothing wrong with having a little fun.”
“I know. Just thinking that getting over someone by getting under someone else might not be the best plan of action,” Beth said with a dry chuckle.
“Fair point,” Gabby agreed. “Look, can we catch up later?” She was clearly stressed and in a rush to get to work, so the two said their goodbyes and then she was out the door.
Beth threw back some Advil, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and then went straight back to bed, hoping she would be able to sleep away the hangover before she had to be at work that afternoon. At least she knew that everyone at 51 would be working that night so she wouldn't have to run into any of them. And by any of them, she meant one in particular.
***
A couple of days went by without Beth really socializing with anyone. She hid in her apartment as much as she could, still sort of embarrassed by the events of the other night.
That night there was quite the crowd at Molly’s, so Beth was more than a little relieved when Gabby showed up to help out. It was crazy busy, but it didn't take long before Beth realized that something was up with her friend. Behind Gabby’s beautiful smile, there was a hint of sadness and at the first opportunity, Beth dragged her friend to the end of the bar so they could talk privately.
The past two days had been crazy. Mills and Brett, the two EMTs, had been kidnapped, but ultimately found in one piece. Chief Boden and his wife, Donna, had their baby, but little Baby Boden had some complications and was still being treated at the hospital. Kelly had broken things off with his wife and sent her back to Florida. It was a lot of information to get all at once, but they didn't have time to go into too much detail.
“And today, this gorgeous blonde comes trotting into the station on ten inch heels, looking for Matt. I ask her what it was about and then she hands me his phone and announces that he had left it at her place when he left that morning,” Gabby explained, finishing up the tale of crazy that had been going on.
“What?!” Beth exclaimed. “He cheated on you?”
“No. Turns out it was Severide’s bimbo and Matt had just crashed on the couch,” she said. “I'm just.. I think I'm just starting to realize that we’re not gonna make it through this,” she concluded with a heavy sigh.
“What are you going to do?” Beth asked, trying not to put too much thought into the whole Kelly part of the story.
Gabby just shrugged, and before she could say anything else, Jay walked up and interrupted them. “I'm gonna go- uhm - be somewhere else,” Gabby said awkwardly before hurrying away.
Beth had dreaded this moment since the other night. She wasn't really a one night stand kind of girl, so this situation was a little unfamiliar to her. “Hey,” she said a little awkwardly. Jay’s smile was very charming as he greeted her back. “Gabby just filled me in on what's been going on. Seems like you’ve had a few busy days,” she noted.
The intelligence squad that Jay worked for had been the ones that helped find Brett and Mills. “Yeah,” he nodded. “But we got them back in one piece, and the bad guys are behind bars, which is all that matters.”
“Good job, Detective,” she complimented. “Can I get you a drink?”
“I'm actually on call,” he said simply. “I just came by to say hey. Maybe see if you have any plans tomorrow?”
Fuck. “Look-” Beth started, not really knowing what to say. “I had a really great time the other night-”
Jay cut her off. “But you’re not really looking for anything right now,” he finished without any accusation in his voice, still with that charming smile on his face.
“It's just that I'm trying to get over someone and I don't think using you as a rebound is fair on either one of us,” she tried to explain. Jay was smart, kind, and funny, and under different circumstances she would be all over this. However, right now wasn't the time for them.
“Lieutenant Severide?” he asked. Beth didn't answer him, but he definitely knew. “Alright then. We still good?”
“I hope so,” Beth said.
He leaned down and placed a chaste kiss to her cheek before saying goodbye and heading back to work.
***
The evening went by in a hurry and before they knew it, Gabby was shooing the last of the customers out the door, locking it behind them while Beth grabbed them each a beer so they could finish the talk they started on earlier.
“I have to get out of Matt's house,” she suddenly said. “Two months ago, if that girl had shown up at the firehouse like she did today, my first thought would have been that there's a reasonable explanation here. Now, though, my first instinct was that he had cheated on me and I - I don't know. I'm just thinking that it's already over between us.”
Beth didn't really know what to say, but she had seen how they had struggled for the past couple of months. “If you need a place to crash, my door is always open. And my couch is surprisingly comfortable,” she offered.
“Thank you,” Gabby said with a half hearted smile. “Tonight?”
“Absolutely,” Beth said, pulling her friend into a hug. “And for the record, I think that you and Matt will figure this all out. Maybe not right away, but I do believe in the two of you.”
“You’re a good friend, Beth.”
Both of them were more than ready to call it a night and go back to Beth’s for some much needed rest, but it turned out that the evening wasn't quite over for Beth yet.
When they stepped out of Molly’s the first thing they saw was Kelly, leaning against his blue Mustang, waiting for her.
“You have a minute?” he asked, looking at Beth as he pushed himself off of the car and taking a few steps closer to them.
Beth fished her keys out of her pocket and handed them to Gabby. “I'll be right there,” she assured.
“You sure?” Gabby questioned, looking between Beth and Kelly, but when Beth nodded her head, she turned on her heel and walked away.
“What's that about?” Kelly asked, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
“Not my place to say,” she stated simply. “Why are you here?” It was a chilly night and Beth tugged her jacket tighter around her body to shield her from the cold wind.
“I just wanted to apologize for the other night. It wasn't my place to say anything.”
“Apology accepted. That all?” she asked coldly.
Kelly didn't say anything, his mind busy searching for words he couldn't find.
“Alright then. Good talk,” she said sarcastically as she took a few steps backwards before starting to turn away.
“No. Wait,” he said, making her stop in her tracs. “You said that you hoped we could find a way to be friends down the line… Guess I just needed to know that I didn't fuck that up.”
“You didn't,” she assured. “But we’re not there yet. At least I'm not.”
“Anything I can do to help you get there?” he wondered, taking a few steps closer to her. He desperately missed her. Her smile. Her laugh. Her touch. He knew that he had ruined any chance of a relationship between them, but he couldn't stand the thought of losing her completely.
“Space and time, just like I asked for. I told you that as long as you’re seeking answers at the bottom of a bottle-”
“I promise you that I'm done with that,” he vowed, cutting her off.
“So you weren't out with Matt - two days after your wife left- getting drunk and crawling into someone else's bed?” She wasn't angry at him, but the accusation and jealousy in her voice was clear as day.
“That's different,” he defended.
“I shouldn't have brought that up,” she said quietly. It had nothing to do with them really, and it wasn't like she hadn't done the same thing with Jay.
“That's okay,” he assured.
“Look,” she said with a deep sigh. “Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that happened between us, and what happened after.”
“What are you saying?”
“That I care about you,” she admitted, looking up into his eyes. “Probably more than I should. And I have no idea where to go from here.”
Hope rose in him at her words, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Beth, I'm not the kind of guy that shows up in the middle of the night to make amends. I care about you too, a lot.” It was so great to finally get that off his chest, to finally admit to her how he felt.
“Yeah. You showed me just how much when you went to Vegas and married the first girl you met,” she accused.
Now he was confused again. “I made a mistake, Beth,” he pleaded.
“I can't do this,” she said, slowly taking a few steps backwards. “I hope we can be friends one day, Kelly. I really do. But I can't do this dance with you right now.” She shook her head as she turned around and started on the short walk home, not stopping or looking back as he called out her name.
