oops, i'm a little but it's still technically talk shop tuesday! i guess this is kind of a two parter: what inspires you to create and/or what do you do to get into your creative mindset/zone?

hmmm I wish I had like a clearly defined “this inspires me” because then maybe I’d be able to more easily break out of creator’s block 😭 I do think the emotional extremes (for lack of a better word) inspire me to get creating. mostly the painful, angsty ones, but on occasion a big crescendo of an emotional moment will inspire me! and music absolutely plays a huge part in all that. whether it’s a song or playlist on repeat, I absolutely have to tap into that to ride the inspiration wave and get into the right mindset. my playlist names are quite hilarious tbh 💀 “broke my own heart” & “a necklace of rope” & “dark gray, all alone” & “I wanted that pain” & and all time painful favorite bc it was inspired by the homicide of my og ship, ellick “rule 91: sob”

anyways yeah all that to say, it’s gotta be emotionally powerful content (oooh or a juicy parallel which usually lends itself to emotionally powerful growth) AND I have to have a good song/playlist to get me moving

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?

That is a loaded question. I’ve started so many fics this year and most of them are still in progress. 🤡 I love writing Jiara of course but I ventured into some other interesting pairings, Lynaeve from The Wheel of Time, Bobnix from Top Gun: Maverick and Rivusa from Fate: The Winx Saga among them.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

Too many to count! 🙈 There are so many WIPs in my doc, that I’m waiting for the inspiration to come home from war.

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

Jisbon! I just finished binge watching all seven seasons of The Mentalist and they stole my heart. The partners to friends to lovers excellence. Plus it’s a procedural show something I’ve never written for before. So we’ll see if anything comes of it and sees the light of day!

3) What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

It's gotta be a dwindling, mercurial high! That was a passion project born out of both sheer love and sheer frustration at what Netflix robbed us of. I related to my beloved Grizz perhaps more than I cared to admit and because he's such a well-read character, I got to experiment with how I write? It's much more poetic than my other works I think, and it was fun to challenge myself with how many literary references I could insert. Also, writing for a completely dead fandom that got one (1) season of a show 3 years ago definitely teaches you the value of writing for intrinsic validation and it was so fulfilling to know I was literally only writing it because it's what I wanted to read.

15) What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

late nights at the old arcade!! I'm really hoping to take my year-end holiday time to revamp my outline and figure out a plan for getting the rest of the chapters done. I have so many exciting plans for that story and I know exactly how it's going to end.

27) What do you listen to while writing?

Okay I love making playlists!! Sometimes I make them for a specific character or fandom, sometimes I make them for a specific fic. Sometimes I can't actually write with them on, but they're a really great thing to listen to while editing or beforehand to get me in the mood.

29) Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

Alright my memory is really bad and I sometimes completely forget whatever I've written as soon as I hit publish as;ldkfj but here are two I'm very fond of:

From a dwindling, mercurial high Ch 1

Because Grizz has spent his entire life trying to speak a different language than the one that’s truly in his heart. He learned how to talk to girls, about girls. Learned terms like blitz and snap and fumble while trying to forget ones like kick-ball-change. Learned to keep his words and phrases simple, lest they fly far over the heads of his less eloquent peers.

He’s thrown himself into literature, into poetry, into any medium where people can bravely and beautifully express what they feel. He’s been memorizing their words since before he can remember - an instinct borne from the gratitude that someone somewhere can speak about the things he cannot.

She flinched, finally hearing verbal confirmation of all the fears and anxieties that had kept her in a chokehold during those lonely nights in Atlanta, the ones whispering that there was no point in reaching out because they didn’t need her anymore. That JJ was somehow better off without her.

Somewhere, at the bottom of her heart, under layers of scar tissue and insecurity, she knew he was lashing out. Knew better than anyone that JJ Maybank didn’t let people in easily. Could almost see the scene before her replaced by neon fluorescents - a pink hue on his face as he told her about his shitshow of a childhood, each new revelation unlocking with a different jukebox selection.

Time warped, expanding and contracting, as it all flickered through her mind, all the different ways this could play out. She was just drunk enough to let her own hurt take priority, just high enough not to care about being the better person.

Eeep! Thank you so much for asking! And sorry I’m late getting to this. I just got back from dinner 😭 But anyway, yes! Let’s do this!

3: What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Answer: I’d have to say my fic Finding a Balance that I wrote back in 2015 for the Naruto/NaruSasu fandom is what I’m most proud of by far because it’s the biggest fic I’ve ever completed with 25 chapters in the main story and then several more chapters for the sequel series I wrote. FAB was a several year long project that I totally credit for any sort of following that I’ve gained on ao3. The reception to it and everyone’s lovely comments is a big part of why I continued sharing my content. That fic will always hold a special place in my heart 🥰

27: What do you listen to while writing?

Answer: Sometimes nothing, but more often than not it’s Taylor Swift, because of course it is! Who better to get the creative juices flowing? Lol

No, I don't plan on writing. I rather leave it to all the talented people in this fandom. I do love the creative part of it but I'm a bit limited when it comes to the englisch language lol. It's well enough to somewhat communicate but writing is a whole different thing. Gonna stay with my gifs :)

“I could’ve done without the screaming and the kicking but the company couldn’t be better.” There was that softness in his eyes that she was coming to love, like she was the most precious thing in his entire world but as she continued to look into his face she noticed a tightening around his eyes, his lips pulling back from his teeth in a grimace. She realized she had been allowing him to support all her weight, his arms wrapped tightly about her. She’s been so stupid and hurt someone again if unintentionally, how could she have forgotten those soul piercing seconds of him trapped helpless under debris, the galloping of her heart as she tried unsuccessfully to free him, the overwhelming helplessness that she was going to fail again and cause the death of someone she cared about— could even possibly love.

“I don’t want to do it without you,” Kie admitted, surprised at how quiet her voice had gotten, like she was confessing to more than just how badly she wanted him to come with her.

Because who the hell knew where they’d be in four years? Maybe she’d have a boyfriend, or he a girlfriend, and they’d want to go on the trip with them instead. Her stomach twisted painfully, a rock settling low at the thought of either of those things happening.

JJ shook his head a little and sighed, looking out at the marsh and the ocean that laid on the other side of it. The open ocean that was begging to be explored. She’d only just learned to surf the year before, at the tutelage of her boys of course, but she already felt a sense of belonging out there in the deep blue sea, in the way the water rocked her softly while waiting for the perfect swell, in the conquering of something so powerful that it made her more alive than anything else she’d ever experienced in her short life.

I was looking up some Jiara images on google and all I saw were fake Jiara quotes I was like omfg some of them are funny, heartbreaking, and made me ship them even more I really should start reading fics now any idea where to start reading them?

For a moment, the only sound that passed between them was the tap tap tap of JJ’s fingers against the remaining empty cups. “I was out of line though. What I said by the fire. I shouldn’t’ve said it.” “It’s not like I didn’t deserve it,” she said, wrapping her arms around her tighter. “I shouldn’t have kept pushing you like that though. I need a do-over on this whole fucking weekend.” “Goddamn, you can’t even let me apologize without trying to one up me?” Kie stared up at him, incredulous, only to find JJ’s trademark smirk covering his face. He swallowed when her eyes met his, the only crack in his facade. “Look, last night was a shit show. Nobody’s arguing that. I said things I shouldn’t have but I don’t regret it. And I don’t think you should either.”
