A few days ago, Bobby Wood (EVP Bob Wood's namesake and recently fired Chief Enrollment Officer) was (over)sharing in the +++Positives+++:

But what WutBJU is hearing from insiders is that Bob Jones III is pulling all the strings

And that he has his very particular candidate in mind. I'm still looking for confirmation from multiple sources on that one. Circumstantially, however, it seems to be true.

Bill Provenzano, however, has a point:

I didn't realize his role was to "coach" and "counsel" board members. How is that appropriate when he works at the pleasure of the president?

It isn't. You're right. And that directly contradicts SACSCOC's rules:
