--- Cohort 1 notes: on 3/15/24, 4 of the Cohort 1 AWC seedlings were planted in 3 pots: Gemini (two together), Atlas, and Pipsqueak in the Derby (2004) medium with a sprinkle of Osmocote + original medium from cones. Heights were 14.5 cm & 6 cm (Gemini), 12 cm (Atlas), and 10 cm (Pipsqueak). Pending them not dying immediately and/or showing signs of significant growth, the remaining seedlings will be repotted. Target height prior to planting is 36 cm. Repotting showed a shallower root system than expected, needs a wider container than cone or should be replanted sooner.
3/17/24 update: might be a coincidence but Pipsqueak and Atlas are already showing new growth (crown and branches, respectively). no changes from Gemini. among the un-repotted, Ursa Minor has some browning at the crown - might need to transplant soon than later, or perhaps burning from too much sun? will rotate and see if this improves. unsure how I will separate Gemini/Ursa Major and Minor when the time comes :/
3/20/24 - separated Gemini into two pots due to lack of immediate growth/improvement shown in Atlas and Pipsqueak. Concern about browning on Ursa Minor, may attempt to divide soon. Potted Hajime and Tagalong to use up the extra medium.
3/28/24 - Potted Ursa Minor and Ursa Major (without Osmocote). Atlas and Pipsqueak continue to show the most improvement. Tagalong has started to show some new growth; less from Hajime. Gemini 1 has started showing new radial growth with a hint of crown growth from Gemini 2. Added layer of compost to all C1 after morning watering
Heights updates:
Pipsqueak - 12.5 cm
Atlas - 13.0 cm
Gemini 1 - 14.5 cm
Gemini 2 - ~6 cm (note: crown is bent)
Hajime - 13.8 cm
Tagalong - 11.0 cm
Ursa Minor - 6.7 cm (note: browning on crown might affect future vertical growth)
Ursa Major - 18.3 cm
4/9/24 - noticed some burning on Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, likely due to the shitty addition of Osmocote. stirred soil and repotted. likely that Ursa Minor is not going to make it.
Cohort 2 notes: on 3/17/24, 105 seeds were planted for Cohort 2 in the Derby (2004) medium with the Osmocote. seeds were floated (77 floated, 28 didn't float) and grouped by float status, divided into 28 cones (on average 4 seeds to each cone), planted, and additional medium spread on top ~1/4 cm. some of the original medium from Cohort 1 was used in cones where Derby medium was insufficient. all cones were watered at approximately 12:00 with 2 tsp of distilled water.
3/20/24 - no growth so far. continuing with 2 tsp water daily (morning). May try dividing into 1 tsp morning, 1 tsp evening.
3/28/24 - no growth so far. continuing with 2 tsp water daily (morning). will switch to divided watering for a sample after 30 days.
4/11/24 - FIRST SEEDLING OF COHORT 2 UP
4/18/24 - cohort 2 notes: one seedling still in cap, one with two leaves out and third budding (both in row 4FR). I didn't record the time for the first seedlings of cohort 1 to come up so this is a total craps shoot. switched back to 1 tsp of water (mornings) because of concerns of overwatering leading to bugs.

China's J-15 fighters start flying with WS-10 domestic engines
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/29/2022 - 08:29 in Military
China seems to be installing domestic engines on its Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark on boarded game.
Images released on November 17 on the state broadcaster CCTV showed a J-15 of the Navy of the People's Liberation Army (PLAN) with the post-combustion nozzles of the WS-10 Taihang turbofans in calibration in preparation for a test flight at the facilities of the manufacturer Shenyang Aircraft Corp.
The CCTV report was made to mark the 10th anniversary of the first takeoff and landing of the aircraft in Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier.
This is the first time that a production J-15 has been seen equipped with locally developed engines; there was a time when the WS-10 was seen in a prototype of the J-15 built during the development phase of the aircraft.
youtube
Production copies of the J-15 were previously equipped with Russian AL-31F engines. The jet fighter is the newest modern and native combat aircraft in China's inventory to be equipped with the Russian engine, and follows the installation process in the Chengdu J-10 single-engine that also received the WS-10.
The use of WS-10s in the J-15s in China - and in the J-10s after more than a decade in service - suggests that China is confident with the performance and reliability of the engine type for use in single engines and in the riskiest operations in aircraft carriers.
The WS-10 Taihang is a series of turbofan engines with high thrust and high thrust-to-weight ratio independently developed by China, which is already feeding production examples of the Shenyang J-11B interceptor, the J-16 attack aircraft and the Chengdu J-20 stealth aircraft.
Previous reports suggested that China was struggling to overcome the reliability and performance problems of the WS-10, as the country faced broader problems in the development of national aircraft engines. As a result, China relied on imported Russian engines to power several of its domestic aircraft, including from the J-20 to the Xian Y-20 strategic transport aircraft.
In addition to the domestically developed engine for the J-15, Chinese military observers are eagerly awaiting new information about new aircraft based on aircraft carriers, including an updated and catapult-launched version of the J-15 (based on the Su-33), a stealth aircraft based on state-of-the-art aircraft carriers, a combat jet supposedly called J-35, an early warning aircraft carrier
China is also developing a two-seat J-15 (above) for electronic attack missions on aircraft carriers, similar to the Terrestrial J-16D first seen in 2021.

Season previews: Western Bulldogs (10th)
Last season: 9th (12 wins, 11 losses, 108.7%) Notable ins: Ryley Sanders (no. 6 draft pick), James Harmes (Melbourne), Nick Coffield (St Kilda) Notable outs: Josh Bruce (retired)
The Bulldogs 2016 premiership was at the time likened to Hawthorn's of 2008 - a young side on the rise that arrived early to kick off a potential dynasty ahead of when anyone expected. The comparison was further cemented when, like Hawthorn in 2009, the Bulldogs missed the eight the next season. Where the similarities now end is that seven years later, there has not been a second successful chapter in this era at Footscray (let alone a third and fourth). Besides that 2016 flag, the balance of coach Luke Beveridge's tenure has been one Grand Final loss, four elimination-final losses and three years missing the finals altogether. In his nine home-and-away seasons, they have not once finished inside the top four.
The tough question arrived at the end of another middling 2023 season: has Beveridge outstayed his welcome? The answer we got from the board was unconvincing. Immediately complicating matters was that less than 12 months earlier, Beveridge had been handed a two-year contract extension amid (real or imagined) interest in the coach from other clubs and he was now tied to the Bulldogs until the end of 2025. Sacking Beveridge wasn't an option because even if his pay-out clause was favourable to the club, it would mean the board admitting to a big mistake and they are loathe to do that lest they be voted out themselves. So it was time to break glass in case of emergency and announce a review. One review became two reviews when the first wasn't deemed sufficient and a summer of football department upheaval unsettled nearly everyone except the coach and the footy boss, Chris Grant. Beveridge and his Bulldogs now enter a new year under a cloud of tensions and doubt.
10th place is at the lower end of their conceivable ladder range in 2024 (barring complete catastrophe). The list is certainly better than that, not quite among the very best in the competition but with good players across every line. They have Tim English, the number one ruckman in the league, and they have Marcus Bontempelli, regarded by many as the number one player full stop. In fact there are five All-Australians on the list. Their key forward, Aaron Naughton, has just signed a massive eight-year contract and a similarly huge deal beckons for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. And the Bulldogs are healthy with the exception of Bailey Smith, out for the season with an ACL, but he was at sea last year and doing finer work in underwear advertisements than on the football field.
So there is talent at the Kennel but there was talent last year and the year before that. The problem has been playing a consistent brand of football over a meaningful period of time, without wild fluctuations and radical selection changes at the drop of a hat. Beveridge is an emotional coach and only sometimes a very effective one. It was an extraordinary achievement for him to lead them to that premiership in 2016 and then back to a Grand Final in 2021. During those games, the players looked as if they would run through walls for their coach and there is skill in knowing which buttons to push to achieve that result. The problem arises when after nearly a decade in charge, you are reaching so far into your bag of tricks to get a reaction that analogies to Che Guevara are coming out at the season launch. The mind games stop working and there isn't a system and method to fall back on, the players are running around in circles, racking up possessions but not goals and then… you are losing to West Coast at home in round 23 and your season is over.
Another year out of the finals would be a disaster. English is out of contract and has no shortage of potential suitors to convince him more success lies elsewhere. Bontempelli is 28 and though far from the twilight of his career, would be thinking on his legacy and wondering if he will ever add another premiership to his CV here. The powers that be have made the not-so-bold gambit of sticking fat with the coach and adding some new voices to his staff. If it doesn't work, the question will come again: has Beveridge outstayed his welcome? The answer this time would be far more obvious and the consequences far wider reaching.

Glessner Prepared to Lead Linsly’s Board of Trustees
He knows the difference because he experienced the difference for himself, and that is why Gary Glessner is excited to be the new chair of the Board of Trustees of The Linsly School. Glessner, the founder of The Glessner Group in the Elm Grove area of Wheeling, assumed the chairman’s duties officially following the board’s May 19th meeting, and he will offer his remarks this Sunday during the school’s 209th commencement. He’s a proud member of the Class of 1985, but, believe it or not, his affection for his alma mater wavered following seventh grade. After Glessner enrolled for fifth grade when the school was Linsly Military Institute, he pleaded with his parents to transfer him to then-Bridge Street Junior High for eighth grade. “I wanted to go with my friends who went to public school because it always seemed as if they had more fun at,” Glessner recalled. “But then I returned to Linsly for my junior and senior years because that’s what my mother wanted me to do. She was not in good health, especially when I was in 10th grade, but she asked me to go back to Linsly because she wanted me to get back into that college prep atmosphere. “I made that promise to her, so I returned to Linsly in 11th grade after she passed away and, to this day, I’m so happy I did that,” he said. “The experience I had when I returned to Linsly is one of the main reasons why I am so proud to be the next chairman of Linsly’s Board of Trustees.” Glessner has been a member of the Board of Trustees for six years, and he’s following Dr. John Holloway as chair. “I see it as a challenge, but it is something I’ve thought about for several years,” he explained. “Because I feel the school has done something for me and has helped me become the person I am today, I felt an obligation to give back to the school financially and with my support. I’ve been very successful in my life, and that’s why, now that I have this opportunity, I’ve accepted it and plan to do everything I can to help Linsly continue to offer what it does to young people. “For me, it’s about direction, and it’s about making sure the school is around for many, many years to come,” Glessner said. “I know the members of my Class of ‘85 greatly benefited from the experiences and from the education they gained while they were students here at Linsly, and I look forward to seeing that continue under my watch for many years.” Sydney Glessner was graduated in 2021, and Kelsey will complete her days at Linsly this Sunday. Two Plus Two Numbers make sense and things add up. That’s the way it’s been since Gary was that high school student in the 1980s, and that’s why he’s been successful collecting the different divisions that comprise The Glessner Group. He’s partnered with Brett Andrews, Eric Snodgrass, and Stephen Wharton to form a firm that offers services associated with wealth management, multimedia, insurance, and accounting. Glessner wants to accomplish the same as one of Linsly’s primary leaders. “As a board, we’re trying to surround ourselves with successful, local business people who want to take an interest in the school to provide financial support and community support so we can provide the next generation that kind of education that Linsly has offered for many, many decades,” he said. “For a lot of years, we’ve had an older board of trustees and they have done an impressive job, but now I feel it’s time we attract some younger members. “If we attract younger members, that means they will be on the board for a while instead of coming on at the age 65 and being done five years later,” Glessner explained. “To lead any organization, I believe you have to have a group of people who work together for a while so the best results can be produced. That’s what I would like to see take place with Linsly’s Board of Trustees while I’m serving as the chair.” Glessner’s son, Gary Jr., is 29 years old and resides in Wheeling, and Gary Sr. and his wife, Missy, have two daughters, as well, including Sydney, who was graduated in 2021 and now is attending Clemson University. Kelsey, who is a member of the Class of 2023, will be in the audience while her father delivers a commencement address this Sunday afternoon. “I’ll discuss three things – organizational skills, time management, and leadership,” Glessner said. “Those are the things I can remember learning during my days at Linsly that I utilize every single day as an adult and as a business professional, and that’s because of the workload we handled every day on top of our extracurricular activities. It was hard work, and if you weren’t up to it, you didn’t last long and that’s still true today. “And, as far leadership, that was expected when I was a student, I know it still is because of my daughters and their years here. It goes without saying, but it’s still a challenge and it makes you grow as a person,” he said. “And it makes you a leader and that will benefit you throughout your life.” Glessner was a student at Linsly Military Institute and then returned to the college prep school for his junior and senior years. All 52 Cadets A gallon of gas was around $1.15 and a dozen eggs cost 80 cents in 1985, and Linsly was an all-male college preparatory school with grades 5-12. Rax Roast Beef still was open at the bottom of Knox Lane, the Stifel Field House was nothing but a development dream, and Glessner was a Prefect (student government), a member of the Math Club, the Science Research group, and he was a letterman for the Linsly varsity baseball team his junior and senior years. And when Glessner recalls his high school years, he remembers homework, competition, and the lifelong friendships he cherishes today. “What’s great is that I don’t believe the school has changed much since I was a student,” he said. “Of course, society has forced a lot of changes on all of us over the years, but fundamentally, I believe Linsly offers today exactly what it offered me and my classmates nearly 40 years ago. “The college preparatory environment remains, the rigorous academic curriculum is still in place, and there’s always been a lot of homework, too,” Glessner said. “That’s why I believe the basics have not changed at Linsly, and, in my opinion, that’s a very good thing. We do live in a different society now, and with that have come some different mindsets, but the school still offers what is most important when it comes to the education offered at Linsly.” Read the full article

Suddenly Last Summer
As the 2021-22 season finished the work began behind the scenes at Deepdale to try and market a big Summer campaign to bring the fans back to Deepdale. Season ticket prices were slashed and the fans bought in big time to the brave new dawn the club were trying to portray, 70,000 leaflets were printed and distributed to all address in PR1 and PR2, with 13,000+ of those being delivered by the fans themselves. "Play your part" was the slogan and how the North End fans responded. Supporters from Clitheroe, Chorley, Hesketh Bank, Kirkham, Garstang, Leyland, Farington, Longridge, Bamber Bridge, Wyre, St Annes, Lytham and of course all the outer lying districts of Preston played their part. Businesses, too, got on board sending out leaflets with orders urging North End fans to jump on the bandwagon and make Deepdale a place to be feared.
The Ryan Lowe factor was still high and the managers stock had barely diminished despite a very poor finish to the previous season. North End went to Spain for a pre-season training camp and 350+ North End fans went with them for a bit of a beano in Benidorm and to watch the friendly which had been arranged against Getafe. The club was buzzing and with promises of investment things finally started to head in the right direction.
However it wasnt long before things started to go downhill a little. Cameron Archer chose Middlesbrough above North End when the club said they had matched Boro`s offer. Instead we got Troy Parrott from Spurs on a season long loan along with Alvaro Fernandez from Manchester United also on a season loan. We started the season with two 0-0 draws against Wigan and Hull before thrashing Huddersfield in the first round of the League Cup. A win at Luton via a Brad Potts goal of the season set us on our way, or at least I thought it had. Two more 0-0 draws at home against Rotherham and Watford started the worry beads to begin forming and after going out of the League Cup 1-2 at Wolves in the second round North End drew 0-0 at Cardiff before winning at Coventry 1-0. Still a decent start but very few goals from the team. We only played three games in September all of which were at home with defeats to Birmingham and Sheffield United split by a decent 1-1 draw against the eventual Champions, Burnley. The Autumn had arrived and North End started the month well with another 0-0 at Sunderland followed by a home win against West Brom and one of the performances of the season away at Norwich winning 3-2.
A 1-2 defeat at Bristol followed by a 0-2 defeat against Stoke at Deepdale which set us back a bit but we won 1-0 at lowly Huddersfield before losing the big game at Blackpool 2-4 in a feisty affair. We were still doing ok and two home wins on the trot against Swansea and Boro put us back up there. We then went to Reading on a Friday night and won 2-1, a result that put us right up with the play off group. However the win against Swansea on November 1st was to be our last league win at Deepdale until February 25th as our home form collapsed over the winter. After the Reading game, Millwall beat us 2-4 at home in the last game before the month off for the world Cup.
We came back on the 10th of December at Ewood and massacred Rovers 4-1 with six first team players missing for various reasons. After that win at Blackburn things went down hill again. Home defeats to QPR followed by a shocker of a home defeat against Huddersfield on Boxing Day mad it a grim Xmas for North End fans. A 0-2 defeat at West Brom three days later signalled the start of the mummering's on the terraces about the ability of the squad and of Ryan Lowes capabilities. Fortunately we won at Stoke 1-0 in the first game of 2023 and knocked Huddersfield out of the Cup at Deepdale in the 3rd round by 3-1. Liam Delap and Tommy Cannon, both forwards, then joined us for the rest of the season in a bid to boost our faltering form. A 0-4 battering by Norwich, at Deepdale, the week after didn`t help Ryan Lowe`s cause but Home is where the heart is and even though we went to Birmingham the following week and won 2-1 the home form was disintegrating.
We then drew Tottenham in the fourth round of the Cup at Deepdale and in front of the cameras and a big crowd we went in level at half time. However in the second half we were outclassed, lost 0-3, and what hurt North End fans the most was the fact that we kept trying to defend and at no point in the game did we give it a go. Unlike Sheffield United who knocked out Spurs later in the competition. The following week Bristol City came to Deepdale and won 1-2 putting the manager under some pressure. The crowd started to get on the back of the manager and he didn`t like it. Words were exchanged at the end of the game and the Ryan Lowe factor was dive bombing after a generally awful Winter at Deepdale. A total battering at Burnley a week later didn't help things with North End lucky to lose by only three goals. A 1-1 draw against Luton at home followed which didn`t help the cause a great deal but was an improved performance. We then went to Hull and drew 0-0 in a game we were very lucky to get a point from.
Crunch time had arrived with a home game against bottom three side Wigan. I honestly believe to this day that if we had lost that game Ryan Lowe would have been sacked. Fortunately we won 2-1, our first win at home in the league since the start of November. A midweek draw at home to Coventry 0-0 was another decent performance followed by a 0-0 draw away at Watford in a game we really should have won. A 2-0 win at Home to Cardiff followed by a 2-1 win on the Tuesday night at Rotherham lifted us up the table but on the Saturday we went to Middlesbrough and got battered 4-0 with the manager making some dubious tactical decisions.
It was the big one next with Blackpool at home in an early kick off. North End comfortably gained revenge for the defeat at Bloomfield Road winning 3-1 and putting us within touching distance of the play offs. A 2-0 win at QPR on Good Friday followed by a 2-1 home win against Reading on Easter Monday had us in joint sixth position outside of the play offs on goal difference. We had 62 points with five games to go and it looked like 72 was the target. We now all know that we would have needed only 70 with our poor goal difference to get in the top six with five games to get them in.
Three of the final five games were away from Deepdale so it would be a tough ask but still achievable. First up was Millwall away and a game that a point from would not have been a disaster. We lost 0-2 with a performance not in keeping with a team hunting for a play off spot. We then went to Swansea in a must win game. The manager got it all wrong playing 3-4-1-2 with Ledson and Whiteman as the middle two. Swansea swamped us in the first half and led 0-3 at the break. We pulled two back going 4-3-3 after the break but after a melee on the touchline late on the Swans got a fourth and that was that. If you had told me that after losing these two games we would still only be two points from the play offs I would have laughed but that was the case. Next up was a huge game at home against Blackburn and a must win for North End. After a decent first half Rovers dictated play and scored with ten minutes to go. Lady luck was on our side though and a deflected Delap shot in the 93rd minute gave us a point. Two games to go and the equation was quite simple. We had to win them both to stand a chance. Sheffield United away proved a bridge too far and even allowing for the fact that the home side had been celebrating promotion for three days we were still walloped 1-4 after leveling the game on the hour. The dream was over and all that was left was to recover some pride in the final home game against Sunderland. We couldn`t even do that with the Black Cats easily rolling us over 0-3 to leave our points tally from the last five games of the season at just one point.
it was an appalling finish to the campaign by North End and just what effect that and the poor home form in the Winter will have on season ticket sales for next term we will just have to wait and see. We look like we have owners who only want to sell at their price and who are not prepared to invest above keeping the club afloat. Im still with the manager but only just and with a poor start to the campaign next season I could see the possibility of Ryan Lowe being an early managerial casualty. The buzz has gone from that heady Summer twelve months ago and it will take a monumental shift in club strategy to get that level of support and buy in back. If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got. I passionately hope we have good news coming out of Deepdale over the Summer but I am not holding my breath as we have seen it all before so many, many times. We say it every Summer but there is much work to do at Deepdale and only three months to do it in. No doubt most of us will be back because we dont choose who support, its an accident of birth. If only the club shared the fans passion and ambition.

The exam was difficult at some point and some students failed to clear it. But if you studied well and studied properly as per my advice, then you will definitely clear it successfully.
CUCET Entrance Exam 2022 Difficulty level
The CUCET 2022 resistance value cannot be predicted because the government will administer it, and it won't be known until after the exam what innovations they'll apply. Yet a candidate might anticipate a reasonable level of complexity for the CUCET in 2022 based on trends from the previous year. It is not anticipated that the level of difficulty of the questions in Part A of the exam will change. Simple quantitative aptitude tests will be administered, but there will also be additional arithmetic questions. A candidate should anticipate 10th-grade-level questions. Students need to review the arithmetic from grade 10 in order to perform better on exams. The English language and Logical Reasoning portions will continue to be simple.
The complexity of the questions on the CUCET entrance exam 2022 will therefore have an impact on the expected cut-offs. Each partnering university will set its own cutoffs based on the availability of seats in each programme. A medium level of difficulty is anticipated for the CUCET entrance exam in 2022. Everything is therefore subject to the rulers' will. A candidate should therefore be well-equipped to handle any unexpected questions that may come up on the exam.
